I have recently begun walking again. Walking regulates me. Tuning into tiny anchors me. I am working on unstifling my creativity, so I am going to post daily for the next four weeks. I am using two constraints: a small square and 30 minutes. Yesterday while walking I found a dime from 1967 (the year I was born).

ADHD-tiny anchors

Hello! I am delighted you have landed at A Plank In Reason Broke, a metaphor that serves as one frame I use to make sense of my diagnosis.

I was diagnosed a few years ago but am only now consciously considering how I position myself in relation to this aspect of my identity and when/if/how I negotiate it or decide to (not) disclose it with others.

My aim here is micro-disclosure. I will share the tiny alongside snippets of poetry. I hope they get you thinking about your own anchors and how, when, and with whom you share them.

Note: A Plank In Reason Broke references a line in Emily Dickinson’s #304 poem, I Felt a Funeral in My Brain.

@robotslenderman I was tagging everyone who mentioned me in the post where it seemed like someone was majorly overreaching by comparing something pretty milquetoast like Christmas, which seemed ultimately unrelated to severe persecution, to genocide. @/attackfish shared info that Jewish people see more literal hate crimes during the Christmas season. Idk what kind of pea brain hears “peace on earth, goodwill to all men” and “turn the other cheek” and concludes violence is the proper action. I at least was allowing for this new info.

Not sure what you said yourself, as it’s often hard to scroll Comments on Tumblr and the post itself has such heavy traffic that it’s still making my app crash every time I try to look at it.

Because without context, making a comparison out of mere annoyances during celebratory events is kinda like an economically well-off white woman using a black disabled transwoman as a prop for complaining about her own hardships, when she herself clearly has it better (the black disabled transwoman in this case being, in analogy, Native Americans who STILL don’t really have their own sovereign territory and nation that’s politically respected, unlike Israel.)

There was a whole schism in the feminist movement over white women claiming too much space, resulting in more racially inclusive ‘womanism.’

An example of a group of people who needed to learn that their challenges, while existent, was not the center of the world, and they needed to be more intersectional and cognizant of those beneath them on the totem pole.

The only thing that shifts the analogy somewhat is the new info.
