#EditorsPick on #GraceandTruth IN MY NAME "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it" (John 14:14). This saying of Jesus is much misunderstood, but it is so simple to comprehend.  Many respond to this message by treating Jesus as a genie who grants wishes, as long as they add the magic words "in Jesus' name" at the end of their prayer requests.  But I seriously doubt Jesus was saying that "anyone can ask Me anything and I'll do it for them, as long as they make it out to "in My name"". The expression "in my name" actually connotes that whatever is being done is "with my agreement", "on my behalf", "inline with my principles", "bears my mark" and has "my seal of approval".  For example, people campaign against causes they disagree with by declaring that it was not done in their name (#notinmyname).  So whatever was being done was not done on their behalf, in agreement with them or inline with their principles, and they did not give their approval by signing any document or leaving an imprint of any kind!  They have nothing to do with it and it doesn't in any way reflect them! The subject verse from the Gospel of John describes the prayer promise that we have in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. Coming to the context of the verse, it is clear that Jesus is addressing the Disciples' grief. He promised that their grief shall be turned to joy if they ask or pray in certain way that they were not used to previously. Explicitly that is praying to the Holy Father in Jesus' precious name. In the name of Jesus As the subject verse says, Jesus specifically told the Disciples to ask God anything in His name. Moreover, the assurance of the Lord seems undeniable. For He emphatically says, "Ask and you will receive". Furthermore, the Amplified Bible translation says not to ask just once, but keep on asking. But the important point here is to ask the Almighty God in Jesus' name. The Son of God who gave Himself for the love of the Holy Father and love towards the mankind. BELGIUM, Brussels. 21/01/2018: Migrants and refugees gather at the Gare du Nord, waiting for a food distribution. After the Interior Ministry announced a crackdown on migrants gathering every night at the Parc Maximilien, the 'Plateforme Citoyenne d'Aide aux Réfugiés' mobilised more than 3000 people to protest the governmental policy regarding migrants by forming a human chain between the Gare du Nord and the Parc Maximilien, a meeting point for migrants on their way to the UK where ordinary Belgian citizens come to host them. When the “Calais Jungle” was dismantled a little more than one year ago, many migrants headed for Brussels to seek an alternative opportunity of crossing the Channel or seek refugee status in Belgium. They hang around the North Station, mingling with refugees or refugee candidates to exchange information. Refugees wait for their status to be legalised, migrants wait before trying to board a truck heading for Great Britain, paying as much as 800€ to traffickers. As the Belgian authorities are reluctant to set up a proper infrastructure to host them, several networks of Belgian volunteers spontaneously took shape, among them “Plateforme Citoyenne de Soutien aux Réfugiés”, “Belgium Kitchen”, “United Stages” or informal groups of people, sometimes coming all the way from Liège or Mons. Through Facebook and a database of nearly 25000 addresses of Belgian citizens they provide the migrants and the refugees with food, clothing and information, and, in response to police raids rounding some of them up to send them back or elsewhere, organise and coordinate transportation to bring them to families or theatres hosting them for a few nights. Each night some 300 migrants and refugees are legally hosted. If it is indeed illegal for Belgian citizens to host people who are entered illegally in the country, it is also perfectly legal to host them for humanitarian reasons.
