Entry 10 : Train in Rain
27 Apr 2018
Rain is when drops of water fall from sky. Animals becomes alerted, floor gets wet, dirt is soaked, and people run indoors. Rain come in different degrees, from slight sprinkles to massive downpour. The atmosphere during rain was cool and relaxing, but became fearful and annoyance when the rain becomes too much. Despite these conditions, the vehicles still move.
Hello again from Indy! This entry came out of nowhere. While I was at Bang Sue Junction Station, it rained and gradually evolved into a massive rainstorm. It was cold and wet, but there are always train running here and there like usual. To me, it felt strangely mystical and pleasant, and this is the story of it.
An Ordinary Day
At this point, it should be clear that I really really like trains. I’ve been writing multiple entries dedicated to trains and train stations, or included them as parts. On the morning of 27th April, I decided to go to Bang Sue just to look at trains because it rained the previous night. It was cool and relaxing in the morning, but it gradually gotten hotter during the afternoon. When I reached Bang Sue, it was sunny and blazingly hot once again.
I bought water and snack to eat while watching a few trains go by. To others, this might seem very ordinary and boring day, but for me, it’s always a fun activity. Everytime I see trains, I feel energized and strangely content. After I finished snacks, there was an announcement that Taksinarat Special Express is coming soon, so I took a little walk to the other side of the platforms.
Tumblr media
(You can see an incoming train and the sunlight at that time)
It was hot, even not in direct sunlight. It feels somewhat hot and humid at the same time. I wished the clouds had moved back for some more relief from sunlight, but it didn’t happen (yet). I waited and waited until the train came near, and took a photo. When the train left, I immediately jumped back into the shades on platform 2.
Tumblr media
(We meet again, Strawberry Milkshake)
Tumblr media
(Slowing down…)
There wasn’t much around at that time except ordinary and rapid trains. People taking their belongings and get on their trains. It was a very ordinary day at the station.
Darkening
Tumblr media
(It’s kind of dark here)
Tumblr media
(No more bright sunlight)
Tumblr media
(It was still hot even without sunlight. Sounds like incoming rain)
Time passed, as seen in the pictures above. It gradually darkens but still remained hot. Then soon came large raindrops, but only for grand total of 3 seconds, then it stopped. I thought it wasn’t going to rain anymore, so I stayed.
I was wrong, it rained. Though, at first it didn’t rain so much and it cooled down the area so greatly. This is my first ever time to see train in rain, I wouldn’t miss this chance!
youtube
(Pretty cool train in slight rain)
Lights on and wet train. It’s a rare sight for me. Despite many of my train rides, I’ve never encountered rain during the ride. I can hardly imagine how it would feel inside the cars during the rain. However, now I could see train in rain, and my heart danced. The train looked so beautiful and strong even when soaked in rain. The cool air and rainy condition gave this sight a strange sensation.
Storm
The rain eventually increased from slight rain to heavy rain. Water starts to leak from weak part on the station’s old, poorly maintained roofs. Uneven floor and weird position of rain gutter downpipes caused water to pool at random spots in the station areas. Bang Sue is surely in bad state.
Tumblr media
(Yup, the water is flowing in the wrong way)
The original Bang Sue Junction Station building and the passenger platforms are scheduled to close when Bang Sue Central Station opens. It is most likely for this reason that the original Bang Sue is in such condition and there are no plans of major repairs.
Trains come and go, come and go. With each train passed, the rain seemed to increase. The rails are wet and reflects off the lights, making them look shinier than usual.
youtube
(A non-air-conditioned commuter DMU, with wet people)
Tumblr media
(Wet and slippery)
From that point onwards, the rain quickly worsened and became a full package rainstorm. So much rain, and very strong winds. All trolley and temporary stall vendors fled. People under the roof opened their umbrella to shield the wind and raindrops. I did so too, but it was pretty much a futile attempt. The wind changed direction often and splashes from downpipes hit from almost every direction. I gave up trying to not get wet, and instead, took photos of the atmosphere.
There were also occasional lightning flashes and roaring thunder. Some of them startled me and made me jump. I had to delete some of the pictures because they were indiscernible ToT. It was strange that day because there were more old people terrified or cowering than the children  who do during the thunder rampage. Surprisingly, the children and toddlers near me seemed excited.
Tumblr media
(In just twenty minutes the water filled up half of the tracks in platform 2)
Tumblr media
(Stormy, wet, dark, and low visibility)
Enduring the cold storm and waiting for the chance to run into underground MRT station, I waited and waited. The storm did not lessen nor showed signs of stopping anytime soon. The pools kept on expanding and eventually, some areas are capable of submerging entire man’s ankle.
A train stopped at platform 4, the farthest one and the passengers frantically ran down, jump over ponds and puddles, including the nearly flooded rails of platform 2. The panic and splashes, accompanied by rumbling thunder made it almost seemed as if this was a show.
youtube
(The storm did not stop the train at all)
No matter how hard the rainstorm is, the trains never stop their service. (Unless something gets in the way or water level is too high). Rain may be a difficult obstacle for a human with a single umbrella, but it is not for trains.
Tumblr media
(Water flows down across the window)
Run Away
I waited until the train left. I decided that I should not wait any longer. I couldn’t find any food or go home if I waited. To travel anywhere, I have to cross the streets to go underground and catch MRT train. The storming rain, slippery floor, and pooled areas proved difficulties on my attempts, but I eventually did it!
Cold and wet from the rain, I went downstairs into the station.. Into colder areas because of air-conditioning. It was freezing inside the underground train ;w;
Tumblr media
(Doesn’t look like an ideal condition to cross the street…)
At the end of the day, I managed to get home safe and sound. The winds and cooling indoors have dried all soaked parts on my clothes. By time my mother picked me up, I was almost completely dry. It was a fun little unexpected adventure, but it was great! I hope there’s another fun and exciting one again soon!
Anyways before I go, here’s to sum it up. “Afternoon, soaked in sweat. Evening, wet in rain. Awesome train, storm can’t stop”
Also a bonus picture

Entry 7 : Superstar Libra (Day 1), Cruise Ship!!!
19 Mar 2018
Luxurious ship at sea always seem magical and magnificent. A lifetime dream of many is about a cruise ship. Days and nights in luxury at tranquil sea, with entertainment, activities, and great food. Not everyone has chance to get on one, but I managed to be very very lucky… to be able to go on a cruise ship before graduating.
Busy Morning
Luggage packed, breakfast eaten, things checked, and my family left home to Don Mueang Airport. This trip, me and my brother were the only ones going, our parents are just sending us off. We arrived at the airport around 9:30 then the busy part began.
While other airlines have check-in staff to help the passengers, Air Asia uses self-check in machine. Honestly, I hate it. It takes much longer time and steps than staff and unnecessary errors happen from time to time.
Tumblr media
(Too many people and it’s slower than it should have been)
Tumblr media
(My brother’s pass. It looks like most boring ticket type I’ve ever seen)
Having printed the boarding pass and checked-in the bags, we went towards the gate. This is an airport so of course, there was some security check. I actually felt sleepy and bored during those times. Airport has much more steps and boring things to go through than train stations.
Before going through the passenger checks, we waved to our parents as they wished us safe travel and fun trip. Thanks, mom and dad ^o^
While waiting for our flight, we walked around somewhat and went past some windows with clear view of the gates. One of it has our gate too but our plane hasn’t come yet. The pass told us to go to gate 36, which is the one in the picture without a plane.
Tumblr media
(They’ve got planes, but what about me???)
During the flight (includes take on/off), it was quite rough and bumpy. I never expected a plane to be shaky in clear weather. I started to miss trains now. Shaky on ground is acceptable, but shaky  midair is another story!
Tumblr media
(The plane, in which I never liked)
Upon arriving at Phuket, we waited for our bags at baggage claim. It took very long time (no less than 10 minutes! How come?) for the conveyor belt to start moving and more time until bags are actually transferred to the passengers.
Tumblr media
(The long wait)
After getting our bags, we quickly leave the airport and got ourselves a taxi ride. We needed to get the… well, not even a port, it’s a beach. We didn’t have any time to tour around Phuket province at all. It was sad, but maybe next time (that means more entries from me lol).
Tumblr media
(Some landscape seen through the ride in the taxi)
Smooth Tender
And so we’ve arrived! Pa Tong Beach, a local Phuket beach… yeah. You heard that right. No deepwater ports here. There are some small floating piers extending into the sea and there are some local boats. These boats are tenders, motorboats that ferry passenger between land/pier to a larger ship.
Me and my brother was glad the pier have roofs. We didn’t have to endure the heat for long, so we took a little sightseeing on the pier itself. The water was quite clear, and the lighting was excellent for pictures. We took some pictures of the water and surrounding areas before getting to the tender queue. The staff on the pier are Star Cruises staffs. They speak English and help passengers while waiting for the tender, as well as checking ticket.
Tumblr media
(The pier, with the tender coming. You can also see cruise ship far away)
Tumblr media
(Nice sea!)
After few minutes of waiting, the tender has arrived. Tourists from the tender left and the staff allowed us onto the tender. We’re extremely grateful that the tender is air-conditioned! It was cool inside and great for waiting, even if it’s a little bit rocking. Good thing I don’t get seasick this time.
Tumblr media
(Air conditioner is one of the invention I’d thank for the most)
We waited calmly as passengers began to fill up the tender. Some Chinese, south Asians, westerners, and some Thais. When the tender have no seats left, the staff signaled departure and the tender moved.
Quite some time was taken for the tender to reach the ship. It was considerably far, but the size of the ship made it look not so far away. The sea was calm and gentle, low wind and waves. It resulted in smooth tender ride, which caused no discomfort.
Tumblr media
(It’s getting closer…. The cruise ship Superstar Libra!)
The small ship near horizon looked bigger.. And bigger, and bigger until I’m up close that I couldn’t see all of it at once. The excitement in me felt as if it was going to burst out. As the tender stopped, I hurriedly get into queue to get onto the ship.
Tumblr media
(Excited… EXCITED!!)
I’ve never been to luxurious facilities before, even for hotels and resorts. I have barely touched the luxurious parts so it can’t really be counted. This is my first time being in something that has luxury written all over it. I couldn’t describe how excited I felt!
The staff prepared the gangway entrance and the people to be let onto the ship in queue. Each person will be checked and given access card once they reach the entrance counter. Me and my brother receives one card each. The cards are used for every single facility on the ship. Cash is not required on the ship at all, except for money exchange and before disembarking.
The entrance counter is located on Deck 1 gangway exit. From there, staircase and elevators are available to get to higher decks. The ship is divided into three main areas, fore, midship, and aft. Fore is front side of the ship, midship is the middle, and aft is behind midship. The gangway we came in was midship one, and so was the elevators. We entered the elevator and headed to Deck 4 to place our bags in our cabin so we can move onto exploring.
Exploring Ship
“Hello Superstar Libra! We’ve arrived! You’re such a pretty lady with good shape outside and nice interiors!” was what I would say if ship girls were real haha. When the elevator doors opened, the Crystal Court was in front of us. It seemed to be a luxurious bar or restaurant. There was a piano in middle, and tables around. The roof is open up until Deck 5, probably to make that deck also able to hear music from here. Reception counter is also here, just a bit away from the piano.
Tumblr media
(Maybe once in my life I’d have chance to get party in place like this…)
To the left of the reception, there’s an opening that leads to passenger cabins. My cabin is also on this side. On the other hand, the right side of the reception counter has no cabins, and instead, has some shops.
Me and my brother went into our room to place our bags and was amazed by the quality of the room, despite its small size! The room was not that wide. There was two beds and they’re rather narrow, but long enough to fit a person. It can also transform into a sofa! But that aside, the room has closets, drawers, mirror, desk, a TV, and one bathroom with adjustable water temperature.
Tumblr media
(Window Cabin, pretty good already! Deluxe suites would be paradise!)
After taking some rest from the tiring travel in the morning, we left our cabins and looked at the deck plans. We then went straight up to Deck 9 (Pool Deck) to explore the pools and the top of the ship.
The Pool Deck is awesome! There’s total of four pools. One deep pool (2.2 meters), one shallow pool (1 meter), and two jacuzzi pools. Pool Deck also have tables, buffet restaurant, musical band, and beverages bar. When time is right, there will be both wind, food, music, and pool! It will definitely be a great atmosphere to relax and chill.
There’s an area higher than Pool Deck, which also act as roof for the tables and buffet area. It is Deck 10, the Sun Deck. This particular deck has chairs, the types that you can lie on. It’s a great area to sunbathe… but I don’t do that anyways haha. The sun is always too much for me.
Here’s some pictures of the Pool Deck and Sun Deck
Tumblr media
(Rectangular pool, but there’s nothing bad about it!)
Tumblr media
(Passenger ship loves cool funnels and logos)
Tumblr media
(You can sit inside for air-con, but outside isn’t that hot actually)
Evening Departure
After we finished exploring the upper areas of the ship and look at the afternoon view, we went back down inside. Some rest were taken, and then it was time for…. Dinner!
Three of the restaurants were included in our ticket. The three were Mariner’s Buffet, Four Seasons, and Ocean Palace. Each one has individual menu that changes each meal on daily basis. On the day I went on board, Four Seasons was serving Italian food. The selection was fine, but then I wasn’t familiar with any of the food.
Tumblr media
(What are all these food names?)
I ordered Milanese Minestrone Soup and Chicken Pamigrino. According to the description provided, these are the only thing I might like the taste. I made the right decision! The food I ordered was really really tasty and there’s quite a lot of them. Oh there was also appetizer (salad meh), and dessert (coffee flavor tiramisu ugh :( ) but those weren’t in my focus at all and I barely touched them. The amount of food was enough to make me and my brother felt so heavy and kept us full for whole night!
We then took a little stroll on Pool Deck and Sun Deck after sunset. The view there was great! Phuket is shimmering with lights and on Superstar Libra herself has bright, yet comfortable lights. The wind wasn’t so strong and the heat from sunlight had vanished. It was much more relaxing.
Tumblr media
(One of the prettiest view in this trip. And my personal favorite photo too!)
We rested for a while, then decided we should go for swimming. Doing so at night on Pool Deck would be a great feeling. By time we finished and reached the pool, the ship left Phuket. The wind started to blow through the two uppermost decks, but that wasn’t a problem until we got wet. But otherwise, nothing is troublesome about it!
My brother also suggested using jacuzzi pools after swimming. He said it is a great relief from exercise (swimming) and it’s like a massage in itself. I agreed to his invitation and followed him. The jacuzzi pools were heated and the water was much warmer than swimming pools. Our first reaction was.. Being startled at the difference in temperature lol. But after we adjusted, it was just like my brother said. I didn’t regret doing this at all.
At the end of the day, we showered and lie down as the ship sail through the pitch-black seas. Aside from other ship’s lights, there was nothing to be seen. I wasn’t sure about the moon because my cabin couldn’t see it. But overall, the first day was already good, so other days would be good too! The excitement inside me was so much. Good things happened on the day, and will probably happen on next days too. I fell asleep pretty soon despite that. I must be tired from swimming haha. Or... it could be that the bed is really soft and comfortable! Anyways, stay tuned for next entries! It will be posted when it is done

Entry 5 : Chiang Mai (Day 3), Casual Visits
27 Feb 2018
Oh hello! Indy is still in Chiang Mai! This is the third day I’m here and I planned on visiting somewhere today. It’s probably less boring than the previous entry.. Well, I hope!
But still, the point of this excuse trip is mostly for nostalgia and favorite food so… the places I will visit is once again, places I used to often go.
Quiet corner in a temple
Temples in Chiang Mai are popular places for tourists, especially for Americans, Europeans and Chinese. Temples in Thailand are of course, Buddhist ones, each with unique architecture, history and decoration. Chiang Mai is much like other ancient Thai cities, having temples in many areas within the city areas.
I may not be the type who likes to visit temples often, but there is one I often do, at the very least, once a year. This temple is somewhere in not so far from Ta Pae gate. Its name is “Wat Chedi Luang” which means “royal pagoda temple”. This temple is actually quite popular among tourists as well, but wasn’t my main reason of visit this time.
Tumblr media
(Undisturbed and peaceful)
This is the old ordination hall. It doesn’t seem to be used right now, but anyways, the walls around it is truly a place that should be quiet. It’s where remains of of the people are kept. Many temples allow some spaces in the walls to be use to keep the remains from cremation of the people, just like here. Unlike other areas where tourists are around and admire the beauty and uniqueness of this temple, this area is completely devoid of tourists. Only people I see here are locals and monks.
Obviously, me and my brother are here because someone is here. I have no intentions to disrespect the dead. I won’t go into details about this much because this is an area that should be left in peace. Only relatives and friends should be here. But anyways, we came to pay respects to my late grandmother and uncle. I did not take any pictures of the area to keep the place in peace.
In contrast
After we’re done, we took a small stroll within the temple. We’re already here and we’ve got time, so why not?
Tumblr media
(How beautiful would this be if it wasn’t in this state?)
On the other side of the temple, there’s a plenty of things to see, like this big structure. I’m not sure how to explain what it is and what it is for, but this is one of the most iconic landmark of the temple. I’m sorry I couldn’t provide much details.
Tumblr media
(Another angle of the same landmark. You can see that there’s a Buddha image up there too!)
The structure seen in the picture wasn’t the only tourist attraction in the temple. The other areas of the temple, including buildings within are also popular among tourists. I’ve got some pictures of the other parts.
Tumblr media
(You could see some tourists around)
Tumblr media
(More tourists, and some shades)
Like how temples should be, the area within the temple walls are quiet and relaxing. Temples aren’t only for religious practices, but are also for relaxation and other peaceful activities. On top of that, they’re also now tourist attractions!
By the by, there is a rule, well, maybe not an exact rule. It’s more of giving respect to the place and people. This sign here says about it.
Tumblr media
(Please dress appropriately)
It’s never really a problem for me because I am a person who really like long skirts and regular T-shirts. Unless there’s a uniform, I’ve never been told that I dress inappropriately (unless there’s a place where long skirt is inappropriate).
Out of boredom
So now after leaving the temple, we had no idea where to go next. Then suddenly we decide we would visit the train station again because we didn’t have time to explore around or take pictures during the day we arrived, and we may not have chances to do it on the day we take return trip.
Tumblr media
(It’s pretty small, but it has trains!)
So here we are! Chiang Mai Railway Station, the terminus of the northern line. Like most of other railway stations in Thailand, it’s old, and has old stuffs. To be honest, this station is pretty small for a terminal. There’s only 3 platforms and the rest of the area were garage and yard for stuffs. There’s also a retired steam locomotive in the parking lot. There’s actually a lot of these steam locomotive scattered around in stations around the country, but not all stations have them!
Anyways, we took some stroll along and happened to see another relic from the past…
Tumblr media
(What else could that be?)
It’s a turntable! But from the looks, it’s probably no longer used since now our locomotive have cabs on both ends. (you can see pictures in this and previous entries), unlike the old steam ones where it can only face one direction. It’s long thought between us siblings that it had been demolished due to no longer being necessary, but we were surprised they kept it! It’s too bad that we can no longer see it in operation, but this is good enough. Maybe next time we’ll have a look at another station where turntable still operates everyday. We know there’s one!
It was getting quite hot so we had to take some shelter inside the station. We had a look at the timetable and then walked along the platform because we see a train.
Tumblr media
(There’s trains on BOTH platforms!)
So yes, trains! We’re walking along the platform with trains, but sadly, neither had locomotive or generations active. Realizing their schedule, it’s right that they won’t be. They would be leaving in the evening, but we were at the station around 1-2 pm. Well at least we get to look and compare the two trains! One was rapid, and another was special express. The special express one is longer and has more air-conditioned cars. The ticket for special express is also more expensive than rapid one as well. There’s also another special express nearby, but there’s no possible photo angle for it. That special express was Uttrawithee, the special express mentioned to be my favorite in earlier entries. Like the other one, it’s also inactive. The shiny silver exterior of Uttrawithee really stands out among other (soooo) purple trains, and that’s one reason I love it! Also, personally, I prefer silver over purple.
Between the two platforms, there’s a small replica of a famous tourist attraction in Chiang Mai so I decided to take picture of it.
Tumblr media
(one of very very famous place, indeed)
This is replica of the pagoda on Wat Pratat Doi Suthep. The temple sits on the titular mountain, Doi Suthep. As said in last entry, the mountain is right next to the town and from there, the Chiang Mai town can be seen. The temple is also beautiful and iconic in itself. It is so iconic that almost every pamphlets, tourist guide, tour websites, and TV program about Chiang Mai will feature it (including this one actually haha!).
Tumblr media
(Grandpa! Are you on the work again?)
Having walked past the train cars, we saw an active locomotive running on a far track. It’s clearly a GE, the “grandpa” of the trains here. This grandpa seem to be used for shunting within the station. The train in the left side platform in earlier image was originally on another track, but grandpa put it here. After that grandpa immediately went off and go into another track.
Tumblr media
(More locomotives! If you squint you can see number of another one in the gap behind the foreground one)
This part is in the direction the grandpa GE went. There appeared to be more locomotives here. I took a guess these would be ones to lead the trains to destination. We took a look from here and noticed that there were Alsthom, GEA, and Hitachi around. These being 2500 horsepower (2400 for Alsthom) locomotives, they’ll be able to pull long trains and cross steep mountains like Khun Tan. They’re most likely for rapid, express, and special express trains.
Before we left, I asked my brother to stop at one more place. I’ve noticed its presence since the day I arrived, but I didn’t have time to take picture of it back then… so anyways, here!
Tumblr media
(Tiny Khun Tan tunnel, complete with the trains!)
This cutie is a replication of how the Khun Tan Station looks. Khun Tan Station is right in front of the longest railway tunnel in Thailand, and is also one of the toughest train routes due to the mountain being steep. It is one of the most memorable places for anyone who works or travel with trains.
I really like the touch they made with this, even though it’s not very detailed or realistic. I like how the place is portrayed and the trains, and the people were placed. It gives feeling of an active station on top of a mountain, and in front of a tunnel. There’s at least 12 trains passing through it each day (counting both trips of each train.)
On note that the trains’ colors were accurate, but no longer. These little trains were probably made before the repaint and repair operation since they were still painted in old colors. However, there’s one thing that irks me….  The grandpa GE’s front side. In this it’s flat, but in reality it’s slanted. Oh well, but it’s only small mistake so I’ll let it slide.
We then drank some water and discussed where to next, or tomorrow. We initially was going to visit more locations, but we changed our minds due to some problems and concluded the day with… napping and eating dinner (lol). But anyways, next entry will be Chiang Mai Zoo! We’ll be heading there and do some sightseeing about the animals. It’ll be a fun one!

Entry 11 : Mother’s Day Trip
12 Aug 2018
Hello everyone! It’s been a really long time since my last entry. I’ve been busy with my personal projects and college things. From now on, I might post shorter trip entries instead of long ones to keep the contents updated.
Anyways, today is Mother’s Day in Thailand. Nothing is better than a little, relaxing trip with family! If all members of the family enjoy, then it’s great for entire family. Nothing’s better than a small trip and good food for me and my family!
Love At First Bite
I’ve moved back to Chiang Mai for my studies. My college is very far away from my house in Nonthaburi province. My parents visited me and are about to return to our home. Today, we went out to eat and on the return trip, we made our way on the roads along the railway. Then suddenly, my mom thought of a nice shop we used to eat often in the past. We agreed to visit it…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(You can tell from the name that you will not be disappointed!)
We’ve been here numerous times in the past, but it’s still nice as ever. We looked around, then for a seat, and were immediately greeted by one of the staff. We were then found ourselves a nice seat under tree shades and just right next to artificial stream.
Tumblr media
(It’s so nice. Look at all those trees and shades!)
There are both seats on the inside the buildings, air-conditioned and sheltered, but it wasn’t raining nor sunny, so we choose to sat under trees. The sounds of flowing water and the atmosphere is removing majority of stress and fatigue from previous days.
Tumblr media
(Our seat, and here are my parents! They look so happy!)
We then have a look at the menu and choose our orders. It wasn’t long before our orders were served and we could enjoy it, but! Since we’re already here, why not some pictures first? We took some pictures and then ate it.
Afternoon Snacks
Tumblr media
(Americano coffee, chicken pie, white chocolate cheesecake, and blueberry tart)
The picture above is what we ate. The coffee and blueberry tart was my father’s. Chicken pie was mom’s. And lastly, white chocolate cheesecake is mine.
The chicken pie is the signature dish of this shop because of its uniqueness. There is creamy soup inside and there are more than just chicken. My mother said it was very delicious, but this dish must not be eaten immediately after it is served! Don’t do that because it can make you cry… for it is veeeeery hot!
My cheesecake was great as well! It is slightly sour on middle layer, but mixed with sweetness of cookie and white chocolate parts, it goes together really well. I slowly ate and enjoyed the afternoon with my parents.
It was very satisfying, and my parents felt the same. We spent some more time looking around, taking photos, and talking before finally leaving.
Bonus Images
Here are some other images I took to give better picture of this place! I hope you enjoy my photos!
Tumblr media
(Mmmm I love this!)
Tumblr media
(Dad’s blueberry tart from above. It looks great!)
Tumblr media
(A bit to the right of our seat. You can see the stream here)
Tumblr media
(Koi fish. They always look great in ponds)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The white sign said “Newly planted grass. Do not step on!”)
Tumblr media
(Other seats outside of the building part)
Tumblr media
(The contrast between two signs is high…)
That’s all for today, folks! I hope you enjoy this humble entry. Also no, I didn’t get paid to advertise haha. Just sharing some nice place and experience :D
Anyways I hope I can get more interesting things after this soon enough. I’ve got driver’s license now so I can start exploring and finding new places to share about! See you next time!

Entry 8 : Superstar Libra (Day 2), First Time Outside Thailand!
20 Mar 2018
I’ve never been out of my country before. This is really my first time. Despite Malaysia and Thailand are right next, it still counts. There are actually many differences between the two countries. This 4-day 3-night cruise has only one stop in Thailand, but two in Malaysia. This is the very day that my feet will touch a different country’s land for the first time...
Morning in Different Land
Sun had risen and the new morning came. The internet and phone signal were gone since an hour after leaving Phuket. Me and my brother slept early and woke up quite early. After we did the morning routines, we went straight to Pool Deck. Mariner’s Buffet was open and there was potato wedges, chicken sausages, Nasi Lemak, soup, bread, cereal, and some other food along with drinks. We sat outside instead of inside due to the number of people and better view and weather here.
Tumblr media
(I really love this picture for some reason)
There was water, and more water. My brother and me watched the sea scrolled as we eat our breakfast. We have yet to arrive to the first stop so there wasn’t anything to see yet. But last time we saw the ship position from display screen, we were nearer to Malaysia than Thailand. It was clear that we were no longer in our homeland.
The breakfast was great! They taste really good and I can have as many as I wanted. The cost is included in the ticket and unlimited refill… this is awesome! Another good thing about it was on that morning, no one was noisy. This is a kind of breakfast I don’t often have. Normally at home I eat toast or sausages, and nothing else until lunch. It was so different between the two places.
Tumblr media
(First things I picked up. Delicious!)
After that we spent some time walking around, in our rooms watching the TV and the ship position screen. We then learned that there IS internet available. They have cellular wifi available, at some price. 48 Ringgit for 24 hour usage, but there’s actually other packages like social medias only, or whole cruise package. But since we needed it only for two days, we choose 24 hour package, and buy another on next day. To save money, we bought only one package and swap logins when one wants to use because only one device may be logged in at a time.
The interior of Superstar Libra sure looks luxurious and gives off a simply relaxing vibe. It may not be the most luxurious cruise ship ever, but it’s decent and affordable. With most guests being Asians, it didn’t feel so alien on board either. Walking around always made me feel great, and so did staying in the room. Everywhere felt comfortable… except in toilets because they lacked bum gun TwT At least a bidet would be nice but they’ve got neither! :( It’s kind of difficult to not have washing water… or could it be because I’m used to bum guns at home?
Here’s some images before moving on to the next section
Tumblr media
(Just a little part of Deck 8 that has great view, and a plant)
Tumblr media
(Those sure look comfy, but would feel weird to sit directly in front of elevators and watch people)
A Town Named George Town
Some time have passed since breakfast. My brother and me were in our room when Superstar Libra approaches port. As we came nearer and nearer to the port, other ships start to appear. There was many, but at that time, only one seemed to be passenger ship which was this very Superstar Libra. Other ships I saw was container or oil tanker ships. After a while, Libra stopped moving on her own and a tugboat came. The tugboat dragged her to the port then left.
Libra then arrived at the port and properly docks, then passengers were given some procedures to get down. Those who wish to disembark will collect passport while those who were up for a tour or free strolls have different things to do. Buying a tour has to be paid and registered, but “free and easy” is being on your own, but no charges.
Tumblr media
(Many many more small to large ships are around)
Tumblr media
(They’re small, but they’re super strong!)
After the gangway gate opened, passengers were allowed to leave the ship. It was near noon, but we ate too much breakfast and didn’t feel hungry at all so we decided we would tour before coming back to eat. With that, we showed our access card to the crew at the gangway gate and they let us onto the land.
Soon, we arrived at the building. The building has signs in Malaysian (and I can’t read them lol). At least there were pictures or English along so it’s more understandable. I actually had never been to Malaysia before and I had no idea what to do. I also never read about Malaysian tourism places so I was completely lost. My brother suggested asking tourist information or something, but this was what we found at the port itself..
Tumblr media
(Nice logo, but where did people go??)
On upper floor, all counters were empty. No one was there at all. Not even money exchange or receptionist! Me and my brother looked at each other and followed the crowd. We then came across the tourist map of this town on Penang Island… a town named George Town. (Just how many George Towns are there in the world???)
We took picture of the map and planned our visit. Then we walked some more to go out of the port building. The sunlight outside was harsh, but it was cool in shades, much cooler than shades back in my home region. It just make me wonder why.
Tumblr media
(It looks big and we probably don’t have time to visit all that)
Strolling through the town and the lanes of the town, we saw many interesting things. The buildings seem to be made from plaster, and all of them were neat and clean (barring some broken parts). The different style of architecture I don’t see often made me curious about this town. The zebra crossing on the street is also different. They’re mostly located on the corners of intersections instead of being put in frequently used spots like my familiar places. I admit, there’s a lot of things I’ve never seen before, and that includes street vendor-free area. Back in Thai towns, street vendors are very common and can be found at almost any day, any time.
The unfamiliarity of this town made it interesting to a person like me. This is my first time going out of country. I want to visit so much more places in this town, but the skin-hurting sunlight sure limit my endurance.
Tumblr media
(It’s so neat and clean)
Tumblr media
(I actually like this look of this. It’s just a few meters from the port)
We kept walking around the town, but not too far. Visited some shops and exploring lanes. We got ourselves some snack and interesting things to see everywhere we went. We also visited the 7-11 convenience stores to buy some water. The sun was so strong we tire out extremely quickly and unable to be avoided because shades aren’t everywhere.
The paths under the buildings were quite narrow but weren’t too narrow to walk. It was a bit difficult when someone walk toward us, but wasn’t so much of big deal. There wasn’t much dirtiness or junk to ruin the view and mood either, but something clearly bugs me. Where are all the trash cans??? Up until this point, I have yet to see ANY trash can at all. Where do Malaysians of George Town throw away their garbage when they’re on the streets?
Tumblr media
(It’s cool here, cool as in, both great and not hot)
Having finished exploring nearby areas and ended up in a different lane, we opened the map. City Hall was our next destination so we took some more walk and reached there in no time. The City Hall looked beautiful in my eyes. It was so clean and neat. There were also trees near the town hall and places to sit. It was great to take a break from walk right there, thanks to nice shade by trees and cool wind that blows from the sea.
By staying under the tree’s shade, I began to see the birds. It was because they were making noises directly above me, so I noticed their presence. Apparently they were crows, and they make caw caw noises. Then something just came to my mind…. I saw no pigeons. Absolutely no pigeons was seen. It was strange how there wasn’t any, considering it was most common urban birds.
Tumblr media
The City Hall wasn’t so far away from a historical site, Fort Cornwallis. My brother wanted to see the British-built fort so we took a little walk there, only to find the surprise… The fort was closed for repairs ;w; It’s sad we can’t see the fort this way.
Disappointed with the fort, we walked off from the barred areas and saw a building. Its design is very familiar to us. It looked like a roof for local food stalls, and we were right. Under the roof there were tables and food stalls. The looks of it look almost identical to the same type of thing in Thailand, but more organized.
Tumblr media
(Everything stays under the roof and it’s neatly organized inside too!)
Various stalls were inside, which also means lots of different food to select from. We were hungry and thought of trying out local food for once, so we went in and look through the selection. By that, I mean looking at each stall’s menu. Among the more noticable and memorable stalls, there was local steak, Char Koey Teow, and variety stalls. It felt so much like at home. The atmosphere was also almost identical, yet somewhat different.
Me and my brother wanted to try some local Malaysian food, so we ordered Ayum Nasi Goreng. We initially had no idea what it was, but when it was served… it became clear. It was simply, fried rice! It surprised us so much because we thought it would be some fancy Malaysian traditional food, and even more so when we ate it. That dish of Ayum Nasi Goreng taste very similar to local fried rice at our home. However, we still prefer our Thai style and taste. Perhaps because we’re more used to that too.
Tumblr media
(To be honest, it feels like I’m not far from home)
Unexpected Visitor
Satisfied with no longer being hungry, we headed back to the ship. We were actually tired from walking around so we’d want to rest. On the way back, I saw a huge building that wasn’t there before. I pondered myself several times that it wasn’t here before and it’s so large. Only then it came to me… that it is no building, it’s a ship! She was taller than trees and any building around her. I didn’t realize she was a ship until I took a good look at the design and found her funnels!
Tumblr media
(Just how big is she???)
Upon getting back to the Superstar Libra, we went to her sun to take a clear look at the other ship. On her stern, her name is printed and it reads Mariner of the Seas. Definitely… a Royal Caribbean International ship! The naming pattern of “X of the Seas” is one of their trademark, and on her funnel, the company’s logo is there.
From Libra’s stern, I felt that Mariner is much much larger. She was taller, wider, and most likely heavier too! Unlike Libra, Mariner has glassed balconies for most of the window rooms. Mariner seemed superior to Libra in every way, but with her ticket price being much higher as well. From what I have read, all ships of Royal Caribbean International’s “Voyager-class” have ice rink inside their ships. Mariner, belonging to that class, probably has it too. Every sight of her makes me imagine the amenities and facilities inside, which I will never know if I will have chance to see it.
Tumblr media
(Mariner is just so huge from any angle)
I noticed the clouds and thought it was going to rain. The wind felt wet and it was windier than when we first arrived. Although, my brother said that it won’t rain. The lighting wasn’t so bad during the time, except the cloudy side. I took some more pictures of Mariner along with Libra, and then happened to see something nice up in the sky and snap a photo of it.
Tumblr media
(It’s like a clash of darkness and light. My most favorite daytime picture so far)
After getting back to our rooms, we spent some time resting and playing games. During that, I also looked up information of both Superstar Libra and Mariner of the Seas to compare. Libra is 211 meters long while Mariner is 311. The height and gross tonnage are also different so it was clear why Libra looked so small. The level of luxury were also different. Libra was rather basic for a cruise ship, but was good enough for local and short runs. Mariner was totally on another level.
During sunset, Libra left Penang port and we get a clear side view of Mariner. Passengers on Mariner appeared to be watching Libra leave. Meanwhile on Libra, a lot of people came to sun deck to take a look and photos of Mariner. As tugboat dragged Libra out of the port… Mariner looked more distant and smaller each minute. Libra faced her port side to Penang island, which is coincidentally west. The sun was just above the island and gave a pretty backlight image. I took that chance and kept a photo of Penang Island and Mariner of the Seas in backlight before Libra fully left the island and sail the empty seas once more.
Tumblr media
(It’s one of the prettiest sight I’ve ever seen)
Night Food & Drinks
We didn’t do much that evening after Libra left the port. Since we ate lunch late, we also ate dinner late. It was almost restaurant close time, but we were lucky to enter before they closed it. We tried Four Seasons and Mariner’s Buffet previously, so this time we’re trying another one that was in the “cost included” list. The final one in the list is named Ocean Palace. We used access card to get in and sit. Unlike the other two, we didn’t get to choose food this time. They serve all food listed in the menu, and most of them were Chinese style food. It wasn’t very satisfying, nevertheless, they taste good.
Tumblr media
(I don’t really like the food, but the interior is pretty!)
After we finished eating, went to pool deck. We walked around the sun deck and occasionally stopped to catch wind. At one point, we were asked by another passenger to help take pictures for them. Initially we were facing the sea and the passenger asked us with “excuse me…”. Without hesitation, we turned towards her. Her response was very surprising. She suddenly let out a barrage of Chinese as she saw our faces. We’re not Chinese!! D:<. We politely told her to tell her request in English, and she did so. We happily helped her out, and then faced the sea again. My brother facepalmed and said he wanted to jump the ship. Then we did some more jokes. Still, I don’t think I look very Chinese.. But well, my brother might. He looks a lot like one, in my opinion.
On unrelated topic, I really like the lights on the ship. At some angle of sun deck, the pool deck looked like a little heaven in middle of sea of darkness. The pool deck is brighter than sun deck, probably because aside from railing, sunbath chairs, and some entrance to the ship, there’s nothing there. Pool deck on the other hand, was full of tables and the pools.
Tumblr media
(My brother commented that this photo looks like J. J. Abrams movie)
We were rather thirsty, so we went down to pool deck and sat at Captain’s Order bar. They serve mainly alcoholic drink, but I’m legal now so I don’t think it’s a problem. Also, my brother was with me so I don’t really fear much. My brother ordered me a “Cowboy Coolers”, which is a drink consisting mainly of orange juice and syrup. It didn’t even taste like it has alcoholic mix, but I think it probably has. Last time I tried weak alcoholic drink it wasn’t so good like this. My brother himself ordered “Wild Wild West”, a lemonade + vodka drink.
We sat and enjoyed our drinks for a while. It was calm and cool. The wind blew across the ship but not too strong where the bar is. The atmosphere soothe my body and soul. Me and my brother then spent the rest of the time chatting and joking about things until we thought we should return to the room.
Tumblr media
(Left : Cowboy Coolers, Right : Wild Wild West)
Tumblr media
(Pool deck is probably loveliest deck on Superstar Libra! You’ve got food, drinks, and pool!)
And so… second day spent. It was very fun to be on this ship and I even get to go down and explore Penang. Even though it was just small part of the city, it was a great experience. I get to see new things and try new things. It was also relaxing and full of surprises in the same day. I’m sure there will be more surprises and things to see on the next day!
Anyways I’m sorry that this entry is delayed. I encountered some real life problems and other issues, like temporary writer’s block. I can’t write anything out from my mind, even though my memory of the place was still clear. Anyways thank you for reading! Stay tuned for the next episode!

Bonus Entry : Misc. travels and cats
Hey guys this is Indy. I haven’t been on a good trip lately. There’s been busy stuffs coming up now and then, but I think I’ll be able to travel again after this. I’ve heard my parents are going to plan travel schedule!
So in meantime, here are the picture of miscellaneous travels I did during the past month and some cats.
NOTE : If you’re here for cat pictures, scroll down to last section. First section is about steam train.
Soon after I came home from the cruise ship, I went to Hua Lamphon Railway Station to take photo of a steam locomotive. This pair of locomotive only comes into special service four times a year.
Tumblr media
(A beauty from past era)
There was a lot of people, but most of them didn’t have ticket to get on this special service train. They’re here to snoop around and take pictures haha. (Well that includes me and my brother too!)
Tumblr media
(The bell and people)
Tumblr media
(MORE people)
Tumblr media
(My brother loves steam trains)
While waiting for the steam train to depart we went around the station and took a look at other stuffs. There are diesel locomotives on regular duty, diesel multiple units running around platforms, and station staff busy with their things. Here are some of the picture from other sides of the station
Tumblr media
(It’s air-conditioned!)
Tumblr media
(Lonely Strawberry Milkshake)
Tumblr media
(This trolley goes many places!)
With the departure time nearing, we decide to go back to the steam train. Luckily we were allowed to go into the cab for a bit! It was pretty nice, but it’s so hot up there ;o; anyways here’s more pictures of the steam train before and during departure.

(Lots of steam)
Tumblr media
(Choo choo + whistle sounds)
Tumblr media
(Another steam train, but this one isn’t functional anymore. It’s in the station)
After the steam train visit, there hasn’t been any major travels. There’s one minor train ride after sending grandpa home. It’s pretty fun for me, but there wasn’t much content to write for, so here are the pictures.
Tumblr media
(Surprisingly old model of passenger car. Still wooden benches!)
Tumblr media
(Marshy plants and rice fields along the way)
Tumblr media

Entry 9 : Superstar Libra (Day 3), Final Day at Port Klang
21 Mar 2018
Waking Up
No dreams, no interruption. I had a deep sleep during the night. Until the morning when my brother woke up. He woke me up in a hurry and told me to look outside the window. I was still half-asleep and didn’t felt like waking up. Just then, all drowsiness vanished as I see what was out of my cabin window...
Tumblr media
(Ship!! Ship!!! Big ship!!!)
Another big cruise ship! I wasn’t expecting to see another big cruise ship on same date and time I am visiting ports. Even less about seeing larger cruise ships two days in a row! The ship over there seem to have docked for some time while Libra was still approaching. We took that chance while the ship has yet to dock to take shower, get dressed, and eat breakfast.
Just like yesterday, passengers on Libra can disembark or visit the land around one hour after arrival. During that time, we went to sun deck to take a close look at the unknown ship.
Tumblr media
(Another big one but looks a lot different from Mariner yesterday)
Her name was Arcadia. At first I didn’t recognize her owner’s logo, but after looking up her name on internet, it was P&O Cruises. Arcadia flew UK’s Merchant Navy flag on her stern, and her design was very reminiscent of a description text of modern British ships I read some time ago.
Seeing Arcadia had reminded me how much I love to read about passenger ships, and a ship I dreamed of. There was one British ship that I always dream for, and her name was Queen Mary 2. Maybe one day in the future, I will have chance to get on her :D In my opinion, Queen Mary 2 is the most beautiful modern ship, both outside and inside. Though, that doesn’t mean other ships aren’t beautiful, they are as well.
Tumblr media
(She looks luxurious too! Maybe more color other than white would spice her up more though)
While walking here on Libra’s sun deck, I happened to notice that one of the pool was closed. There was many people scrubbing the pool so I assumed they closed it for maintenance. The sunlight was getting stronger so we headed back inside to wait. We happened to ask the receptionist about getting off for a little tour. However the window of time that we were allowed off the ship was really small. It was only two hours before ship would depart from Port Klang. This mean we had no time to visit Kuala Lampur or the nearby places.
It was sad that we have no time to visit one of Malyasia’s most iconic cities. But honestly given the time window the ship docks at Port Klang, they’re probably here to pick up passenger and refill stocks rather than being a tourism stop. Around the visible area from Libra, all that could be seen was forests and industrial sites. There was also oil tanker ships and container ships on a different section of the port. This area we currently are seemed to be reserved for cruise ships.
Initially I was planning to not get off, but my brother did. He went into a building near the port and happened to find free wifi there and messaged me that I should get down and buy souvenirs. I took some minutes to consider it, and decided I would get down and meet up with him.
Tumblr media
(There’s immigration check, port services, and minor shopping mall inside)
On the inside we happened to get lost a bit. My brother entered from the first floor gate, while I entered from third floor. At the time my brother was allowed in, passengers can take lower path, but by mine, everyone has to walk on upper path. Thanks to free WiFi inside the building, we were able to get back together.
We walked around and checked the available souvenir in the building. We came across many, but not all of them were interesting. Several of them were common items that can be found in the region, including Thailand.
Among the souvenir, some was more memorable than others. One of those are these dolls… tigers. Normally people would be attracted by cute or cartoony tigers, but here, they sell realistic-looking tiger dolls.
Tumblr media
(It’s too realistic)
I was going to buy one for my friend, but I asked her if she wanted one and she immediately said no as soon as she saw its look. I guess it’s too realistic after all. I wanted one for myself, but I already have a cute tiger plush at my house haha.
I walked around some more and didn’t find anything decent to buy for my friend. Until then I found a stall with lots of magnet and other goodies. I took a look around and decided I would buy something. I ended up with a package of three magnets. It’s great, one for my friend, another for another friend, and last for me! So I paid money and headed back to the ship.
Tumblr media
(It’s fancy enough to be a souvenir, for me and my friends!)
There wasn’t much time left so we headed back to the port. We encountered a problem there because the immigration staff seem to be confused about something. He kept speaking in circles and made no sense or understanding of anything we said. It held us back around 10 minutes, but there was still a lot of time left.
At the same time, Arcadia’s passenger are returning to their ship as well. There was a bit of crowd at the bridge and both ship’s gangway, but wasn’t too bad. Inside Libra however, there was a very long queue of newly embarked passengers checking in. A lot of people embarked from Port Klang. Just the amount of disembarked, and newly embarked passenger I could see with my eyes were much more than previous stops.
Tumblr media
(New passengers, a lot of them)
Originally the ship was scheduled to leave Port Klang on 2 pm, but low tide condition forced the ship to delayed it to 4 pm. We didn’t do much during the day and we cannot get off the ship again. When night falls, we went to enjoy the pool for the last time because tomorrow, we have to disembark once ship reaches Phuket.
So to summarize, this trip was very fun and it was amazing! I get to be on a luxurious ship, ate good food, see something new, went to a new country, and relax all in one! It was a great experience that I will never forget. I’ve always loved ships, but this is my first time being in direct contact with one. One day I might have chance to go on a cruise ship again, but for now, this is great already! I didn’t write the fourth day entry because it was rather busy and had nothing of interest, but I hope that’s fine with you. But anyways, that’s the end of this trip, see you next time!
Tumblr media
(I will miss this sight once I disembark…)
Oh but before I go, here are some extra images from Superstar Libra and places I visited. They didn’t get to fit in the journal parts, but I wanted to include them so they’ll be put here.
Tumblr media
(There’s model of this ship (still named Seaward) on herself, along with another one named Windward)
Tumblr media
(These tables belong to a bar on sun deck)
Tumblr media
(There’s sure a lot of jet skis! Taken from Phuket)
Tumblr media
(It’s probably not real gold, but it gives off luxury vibe!)
Tumblr media
(Superstar Libra at Penangport)
Tumblr media
(Photo of photo of Penangport)
Tumblr media
(7-11 in George Town. It looks neat, nice, and wide)
Tumblr media
(Another picture of City Hall, but from different angle)
Tumblr media
(Some snack I bought. They taste milder than ones sold in Thailand)
Tumblr media
(What a wise snack! Jokes aside, it’s quite good, not too sour)
Tumblr media
(Libra’s bridge from port side)
Tumblr media
(Bootleg Pikachu found at one of the local stores)
Tumblr media
(Some Malaysian money)
Tumblr media
(Even we didn’t meet the current captain, this captain is always available!)

Bonus Entry : Train Night
Night of 1 Mar 2018, and early morning of 2 Mar 2018
To be awake in the night is a long night. Travels within darkness and on movement is such a unique feeling. It may be a long night, but never a boring one. This route I’ve always took when I was younger… now I am taking it again, after ten years lack of train travels...
Train, My Love
Remember all those trains I’m in love with? Those overnight trains and the locomotives, and their looks. I’ve always love train travel, especially on 2nd class sleepers, because I’ve got myself good toilet and bed. Anyways, if you have followed my blog, you’d have seen I mentioning about the “CNR Special Express” and the “Strawberry Milkshake (Hitachi locomotive)”. There’s something that I love them about, and this is my story of a single night travel with it.
After packing things and getting everything done, me and my brother took a ride with local taxi to go to the train station.
I’ve gotten my ticket prepared, but my brother wasn’t satisfied with both of us getting upper berths, on different sides. Neither do I. I wanted to look at the nighttime view, but upper berth lacks window. Fortunately, the ticket booth has a ticket exchange service. Originally planned to exchange for first class, but turned out impossible because there was only one seat left and there was two of us. We then asked for a new lower second class, but both of us getting lower berths. It went well, there was plenty of seats available. With tickets now meet our needs, we proceeded to move our luggage to our new seats and had plenty of time to snoop around.
Tumblr media
(Clean interiors and velvet seats, what a sense of luxury)
This is my third time being on CNR type express (first two times were in November, with my mom). I knew I love it because of comfort it gives. Unlimited battery supply… there was a socket behind curtains. The toilet were also fully air-conditioned and clean, unlike the older models where no sockets are available, toilet is not always clean (as well as dumping onto tracks), and inability to tell whether toilet is vacant or not.
There was one hour left until departure, so I took a little stroll around on the platform and noticed something.
Tumblr media
(Two for more power. Hitachi (pink) 2500 hp, Alsthom (orange) 2400 hp)
Two locomotives were used for my train. On my arriving trip, there wasn’t need because it was DMU, and they have engines on each. This time is different, there are 10+ cars and none of them has engines. Single locomotive would do fine if it wasn’t the steep Khun Tan mountain.
The Long Night
Time passed and passed as I wandered around and chat with my brother. The train left the station at 6 pm and soon the world plunged into the darkness. With the railway being mostly laid in rural areas, external light became scarce after departing from stations. There was only few light and occasional houses, shops, local restaurants, and some other things along the paths within Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces.
Tumblr media
(Need food or drinks? They sell it here)
On long line trains, there will always be a car that sells food. Normal and Rapid has “hot kitchen” car where the car is not air-conditioned and cook food. Express and Special Express has “cool kitchen” types where primary service is drink. Cool kitchen have food too, but might be unsatisfactory to many, because they’re microwavable food. I didn’t have any drink preference and the food was so-so, but my brother was disappointed. He was expecting State Railway of Thailand’s signature fried rice (commonly nicknamed “train fried rice”), but he didn’t get one. On side note, the air-conditioning on this train is very cold, especially in the restaurant car!
Tumblr media
(Lower one looks similar to the upper, but with window and bed can become seat. Picture taken on my previous ride)
Once night falls, the staff on each car began to deploy beds. Me and my brother, having eaten, returned to our seats and requested the staff to deploy ours first (some people aren’t willing to have their seats transforming into beds yet).
Both of us fell in love with trains since childhood, and now we started doing same things we did back when we were little…. Watching night scenery as train runs through. The brightness of the lightning caused a lot of reflection so we had to close curtains and *another* curtain on the windows, then peek our heads in.
Reliving the old days, we find a lot of things and topics to see and talk about. One of it including him teasing if we were five year olds. Maybe we still are haha. Sometimes it feels nice to act like a child. If only we were as small as we were… if only. Our current size had caused us to stay in weird position or had to overlap each other’s legs in order to stay in the same bed and look at the window.
We went past Khun Tan tunnel, the longest railway tunnel in Thailand in darkness. It seemed almost alike and we couldn’t tell if we were in the tunnel, or already exited. The darkness sure does conceal many of the things that were obvious during the day. We also reached a major station, Nakhon Lampang Station (Lampang province’s main station). The station was more lively during the day, and active trains being readied on platforms. We also saw an antique locomotive (Davenport, but diesel-electric one) on ready status during our DMU ride to Chiang Mai. However this time, when we reached this very same station, it was dead quiet. The locomotives were in further rails, and their engines and lights were fully off. The station seem to be only passing point for trains by that time.
Alone in the Silver-Pink Serpent
At one point, I decided I need to recharge my phone and that my body started feeling uncomfortable from staying in weird poses. I left his berth and entered my own, setting up the same darkening tricks.
The Special Express No.10, Uttravidhi (I really hate that spelling I’ll use Utrawithee because it’s more accurate in reading.) runs within the darkness and forests of the northern railway during first half of the night. Fortunately, that night was full moon. The moon lit the sky and created a clear sky border and background behind the dark objects and mountains. Occasionally the train would run past local villages which had tiny light. I enjoy watching these little light float in, and away. The darkness of the night seemed boring and scary elsewhere for me, but while on train, it is a mysterious beauty.
Unable to sleep and lacking phone signal, I spent a lot of my time looking outside the window or roll around on bed. Northern railway feature large amount of curves as well. With me being on car no.4 which is towards the front, when it curves, I can see the rest of the train, up until the final car. It looked like a mysterious silver snake running on its path, surrounded by dark forests. During curves, it is also easy to see windows of other cars. Those rectangular light patches that shone onto the grounds seem somehow attractive.
Partially sleepy, I lay down and fell asleep several times and waking up several times at different points in the railway. Multiple points I wake up while still in mountainous section, I encountered forest fires. Some far away, some nearby. But strangely, even with my fear of fire, the flames didn’t look scary that night. They looked like shining dancers in the dark. Fires that were nearby looked as if they were alive and dancing to the rhythm unheard by normal human. Fires that were far away spread through the mountain and gave the mountain a strange and unusual look. The mountain I saw appeared as if the flames are carefully drawn. It appeared as an only slightly curving line along the curving surface.
Tumblr media
(Fire line, now imagine it being diagonally drawn across the mountain. That was what I saw)
Other times of waking up happened within vicinity of stations, big and small (but mostly major ones because bright light). Like Nakhon Lampang Station, these stations were dead quiet. No sounds of any other train, or even people. Although it was late, there were a few people waiting for their trains, and the rest are staffs giving signal to trains. Green flags, red flags, they still use it when there’s enough light. On some stations, I get to see railway staff activate switches manually (because there’s no automatic or electric controls here. Those only exist in few stations.) Lots and lots of lever standing together, one being pulled and the cables activate the railway switches. The tracks have been switched. While some people may find this being ancient and outdated, it is actually one of the signature of Thai railway systems. Antiquity and relics lies around in all places, and very few are actually modernized.
The long night ended when I finally fell asleep somewhere just past Uttaradit Station. I didn’t wake up nor had any interruptions until 5 am… reaching Rangsit Station. Greeted by the staff, I woke up and the beds are being undeployed, one by one until all were back to seats. When I got out of the bed, I found some new faces. There were people who got on the train from stations during the night, unlike me who started from the terminus. And now almost entering Bangkok… getting to Rangsit Station (which is Pathum Tani province, to remind)… Don Mueang Station… Lak Si Station…Bang Khaen…. and Bang Sue Junction, each with passengers getting off.
I got off the train at Bang Sue Junction Station and was greeted by heat and sunlight of the morning (it’s hot since morning, :/). Initially me and my brother was going to ride MRT to Klong Bang Phai, but we managed to get a taxi so we comfortably went home, which marks the end of the adventure.

Entry 6 : Chiang Mai (Day 4), Zoo!
28 Feb 2018
Hi guys! This is Indy! Did I mention before that I like zoos? (Pretty childish for 20-year old person lol). But anyways, zoos are always nice for a family, and personal visits. Sometimes watching animals have some kind of relaxing or interesting effects. Bonus points if you have some interest in specific kinds of animals.
The zoo I’m visiting today is one of the most well-known zoos in Thailand…
Chiang Mai Zoo
Welcome to Chiang Mai Zoo! A zoo located on foothills and parts of Doi Suthep mountain which is as already said, right next to the Chiang Mai town. The main entrance to the zoo is in Huay Kaew Road, or referred to the locals by “Na Mor” which means “frontside of (Chiang Mai) university”. It’s just a short distance from the university’s main front gate, actually! I’m sorry for not taking photos of ticket booth and the main sign because I was on motorcycle and the parking space didn’t really give good angle. But the price rate for Thais and foreigners are somewhat different, so look at signs carefully.
Tumblr media
(Slope and hills are common landscape within this zoo)
Like seen in the image, slopes exists, and they are very common in this zoo due to partially being located on a mountain. Walking without aid of cars is very tedious here so it’s not advised.
Anyways, right at the entrance slope, there are two bird species displayed. Flamingo and parrots. Upon walking up the slope, there are some more animals (will be visited later in this entry) and a shuttle bus ticket booth on the left.
Tumblr media
(These parrots don’t seem to fly around anywhere. There is no roof)
Like many others who visited here, taking shuttle bus is a better option of having tour inside the zoo so I did too. The bus visits major locations within the zoo and you can get on and off freely until you reach the final stop where they will mark your ticket as completed round. Completing a round means you can no longer use that ticket and thus, if you want to go around again or visit earlier stops, you will need a new ticket. The good thing is you can get on any bus that appear and get on off indefinitely at any stop until you have the ticket marked.
And so, the tour begins! I bought two tickets, one for me, and one for my brother. We proceed to get onto the bus and looked around the places we move past, and planning the stops and visits. Luckily we had a map so it was much easier to plan. (You can get a map at the entrance).
Tumblr media
(The buses, savior of your legs)
The First Stop
So our first destination is the panda exhibit! Yep, this is the zoo where panda bears are kept. There are only two of them in Thailand. There’s also a snow dome next to it and cost extra money to enter but I had no interest then so I didn’t enter.
Before entering the panda exhibit, we looked around for other animals areas to plan our next moves and happened to find something interesting.
Tumblr media
(Makes you wonder what guide tourists around in the past)
This definitely is a train! But what is it for? There are no rails inside the zoo and the wheels aren’t those used on roads. Also examining the console and it has only buttons and a single throttle, much like a miniature of standard train control. Could there be rails for it in the past and were eventually dismantled and replaced by shuttle buses? Train would have been cooler for me though!
After taking enough look at the remnants of the train, it’s time to go inside the panda exhibit building! Oh yeah, panda requires extra ticket to enter, and like the main ticket, price rate between Thais and foreingers vary. It’s not very expensive because it’s only a small addition so we paid for it. The additional ticket in question is sold in front of panda exhibit itself.
Tumblr media
(Follow this path to reach the panda bears)
The pathway inside the building is decorated with fake bamboos and illustrations about panda biology, stories, and other information until reaching the actual panda. There’s actually some more information about panda bears there too, but less. And now… for the real pandas
Tumblr media
(Look at how happy he is!)
There are two panda bears here, Chuang Chuang (male), and Lin Hui (female). They live inside special areas built specifically for them, complete with food, water, exercise, sleeping, and strolling areas. By watching how they live here, we agree on that they have such a comfortable life.
Tumblr media
(This is where the panda bears live.)
It’s quite cool… well, much cooler inside than the outside! The entire building is air-conditioned. Well I could guess, the panda bears natural habitat is small area in China, which is much colder than Thailand climate so it’s needed.
Towards the right of the exhibition zone, there’s souvenirs about pandas, like postcards and other things. Me and my brother bought one each for our friends because we think they looked so cute and has ones that has meaning >w<
Moving on, right next to the panda building, there are big cats. Lions, tigers, leopards, and the smaller big cats (wild cats and stuffs). I like domestic cats to begin with so I have some interest over these big kitties, but well they’re probably not good to be kept as pets.
Tumblr media
(Hey look the other way, I’m not your food!)
Tumblr media
(Uhhh what do you want with me?)
The cats are separated from the people by a huge gap and/or fence, and some other cats are caged. Well that’s good enough for safety! But still, I kinda feel weird when big cats all look at me and my brother kept teasing they think I’m their food. Well, maybe that’s what in their heads but it’s not going to happen haha. I’m not stupid enough to jump into their areas.
I honestly feel that some of the smaller big cats look cute. Like the leopard cat and fishing cat. They look a lot like house cats, but not quite. Sadly they’re not very active or walking around on the time I visited. They were all lying around and/or sleeping.
Tumblr media
(Not feeling so active meow)
Forest For Birds
Before taking the bus, we noticed a huge cage so we took a look. We were instantly amazed. It was a huge forest inside, and this is a zone for birds! It has mountainous terrain and some stream inside, as well as lots and lots of trees. This area could be an actual forest, but caged and limited so they could put birds and they wouldn’t escape. This zoo is located on a mountain and real forest after all. It clearly noticeable around certain zones where steep steps and overgrown paths exist.(Okay seriously, don’t walk off the path and exhibit zones, they really do lead into forests.)
Tumblr media
(The main entrance. There’s restroom just to the right of this)
Tumblr media
(Do you believe this is a bird cage?)
There are signs scattered around the area and sometimes the corresponding birds are seen, but not always since they fly around freely within this mini forest. It was pretty nice to see birds being able to fly in such wide space, but it was too tedious for a walk! There are stairs and they’re steep! Staying around at certain area may help seeing some kind of birds, but still, sometimes they’re hidden by trees or other things.
I wonder if there are rare birds inside. That was a silly thing to ask. There definitely are! But well it’s too bad we didn’t have anything to help with birdwatching. We can only watch the ones that are close enough and doesn’t easily flee… like this one
Tumblr media
(It’s a swan, but it’s black. No racist comments please)
We originally intended to leave through another exit on a higher zone, but the steps and day’s heat proved too great challenge for us so we gave up and walked back down to the same entrance we came in. Plus, there was a toilet there so it’s great.
Fish Tank of Wonders
After taking enough look of the things in the surrounding areas, we got thirsty and bought some water. The day was so hot and neither of us like heat (even locals here hate heat, not lying). With water supply ready, we went to sit and wait for the bus, which took us to the next stop, the aquarium!
Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium is renowned for having longest underwater tunnel in the country. The aquarium building is located on a pond and has some animals outside as well. I feel like I’m a child at this point, running around and getting excited at the animals haha.
Tumblr media
(This little guy is outside for some reason)
The animals outside include two crocodiles, some iguanas, numerous mudskippers, many turtles, and lots of koi fish.
The aquarium requires different ticket to enter. The ticket in question can be purchased at the main gate entrance which gives access to both main zoo and aquarium in one go. If you have standard ticket, you cannot enter the aquarium but if you have aquarium ticket, you can enter all other parts that doesn’t require additional tickets in addition to the aquarium
Tumblr media
(It’s really dark and cold in here)
Inside, there’s lots of fish and aquatic animals in display, plus some snakes. Towards the entrance contains freshwater fish found in mountainous region of northern Thailand, then some snakes and spiders, but the spider zone was being renovated on the day I visited so too bad :(. Further in the back has more freshwater fish and saltwater fish. There are also other animals such as sea turtles, corals, crayfish, shrimps, etc.
Tumblr media
(It’s decorated to be forest-like here, to fit with the mountainous forest habitat)
The interior of the aquarium is fully air-conditioned and pretty dark, with only fish (and reptile) tanks lit. I had a very hard time taking photo of anything inside. About 30% of pictures I took turned out blurry or had weird lighting and ended up being deleted. Here are some of the pictures that survived.
Tumblr media
(It’s easier to see with your own eyes than through camera)
Tumblr media
(Yeah, who is sleeping?)
Tumblr media
(We have some starfish, fish, and AAAAAAAAAAHHHH)
Tumblr media
(Turtle!)
At the end of the path, it comes as slope down into the lowest area of the aquarium, which houses the underwater tunnels. There are two, one for freshwater, and another for saltwater. Freshwater one is first, because they intended you to. There are also moving paths, but only active on days with lots of visitors. I visited it on Wednesday so there’s very few people around, but I get freedom ^o^.
The pathway in the tunnel is wide enough for three people to walk, but I don’t have any problem to follow my brother and the intended directions. It’s not very cold around this section either so it’s pretty fun to walk.
Tumblr media
(Feel like you’re underwater, but dry)
There are fish on both sides at all times and sometimes there are fish seldom seen around. In the freshwater tunnel, one interesting thing is the freshwater stingrays. You don’t get to see many of those often and some species can be found in rivers in Thailand and neighboring countries too!
Tumblr media
(This one is literally named “Giant Freshwater Stingray”)
Both tunnels are decorated slightly and imitate natural habitat. These fish are probably fed by zookeepers though. Anyways the marine fish tunnel marks the end of the aquarium and it loops back to tunnel entrances. From there, there’s a path that take guests to the souvenir shop and eventually the exit.
Tumblr media
(*Jaws theme*)
Birds, and reptiles.
So after exiting the aquarium, we waited for the next bus and caught it for a ride to next stop. There was a stop that has water park and kid’s zoo, but we didn’t visit because we’re adults now haha. The bus took us to orangutan & penguin stop. As name says… there’s orangutan zone and penguin building here. Sadly there’s not much around, only one orangutan and very very quiet penguin exhibit building.
We were actually rather disappointed on how quiet (and poorly maintained for the penguin building) was so we left and walked up the steep slope that separated main road and the building. Upon reaching top of the slope, we were completely exhausted so we took a rest in a store nearby, buying some snack and water and sat for a while. When we recovered, we moved on.
Moving on, there was more birds. These birds are caged or stay in somewhat open area, but not as big as the earlier one. On the day I went, there was a warning sign that visitors should stay quiet because the birds were in mating season.
Tumblr media
(I wonder what that bird is)
Tumblr media
(At first I really thought these were house chicken, but they’re wild fowls)
Some distance away from the bird cages, there was an area that had an arrow pointing to a path. This area is… full of turtles (and tortoises)! The area were quite wet and full of slopes, made even more with forests surrounding the paths at the edges. The turtles were divided into ponds and pits, one for each species. Tortoises have few water in their pit, while turtles have almost half of their area as water.
Tumblr media
(What if some of them are teenage and like pizza?)
Tumblr media
(There’s just something I find attractive about these guys)
Surprisingly, turtles weren’t the only thing in watery ponds. Some of the ponds also contained another kind of reptile. Scaly and long tail, with powerful jaw. Yes, that’s right. Crocodiles! There wasn’t  just one pond that contain both turtle and crocodile. There are in fact, multiple. So far I saw, there was 4 of such ponds. What really surprised me was neither of them seem to be bother at the other. They either stay on different sides, or even near each other!
Tumblr media
(This is not a shoe, it’s a crocodile)
I was kind of too excited over turtles and some walking that my brother seem to be somewhat bored or annoyed at my over-enthusiasm lol. After spending enough time near the ponds, we found that the ponds are really near the forest and we walked through paths we found, finding some birds, a peacock (that ditched leaves in my face when I tried to take photo -_-ll), and some empty cages.
Then we finally reached “gibbon island”, which obviously, have gibbons. With fatigued feet and worn out legs, we decided to not have much stroll around this area and catch a bus.
Tumblr media
(You can see the Chiang Mai town from here)
With steep slopes and high points with some clearing, it’s possible to see a lot of things, including the city below. Oh and the dark green structure in the image above is monorail tracks. There used to be monorail service, but it was cancelled. The disused tracks and stations can be seen all over the zoo area. The dead monorail car itself rests somewhere high up above, near big cats zone. My brother saw it and pointed it out to me and I planned to have some look at it, but sadly, the paths were blocked and the area was overgrown with plants. There was no possible ways to reach the monorail without doing prohibited or dangerous things.
Back to Beginning
We finally got off at the final station and had a look at animals surrounding the area. We were going to have a look at more, but we were too tired to tackle the slopes so we had a look at animals as we walked back to the starting point… the bus ticket booth.
Several animals are kept around here, with more memorable ones being otters, ostriches, and kangaroos.
Tumblr media
(They look so relaxed)
And now… back to the starting point. As told before, there were some animals here and they can be fed. The animals that are here were rabbits, tortoises, and goats. The food for feeding ask you for small donation, in which me and my brother gave some and took one basket and one bundle of vegetable.
Tumblr media
(Don’t eat this, it’s for animals)
I had a great time feeding the tortoises, probably because I like them haha. My brother fed the goats in meantime. Turned out that the goats gobble up all the vegetable extremely quickly, while tortoises took time to look, stretch neck, and bite. I don’t know why but I really feel like they’re  so chill and cute. Maybe if I could have pet tortoise in the future…
Now that the food had ran out, we walked back. Before going back to the motorcycle, I took a little visit in the souvenir shop while my brother wasn’t interested. I bought myself a cute tiger doll because… well, it’s cute! It’s quite expensive though.. There was actually a different one I wanted, but it was way too expensive! So this is what I got..
Tumblr media
(He’s so cute. I’m naming him “Krong Yim”, means “smiling tiger”)
So in conclusion, this trip was very fun! It was also exhausting, however. The zoo was so large and filled with slopes so it was difficult to explore, and with it being extremely quiet… it’s kind of lonely. The zoo used to be so much more popular, but it died down when panda bears were no longer a trend. A lot of animal zones weren’t so good as it was before… like penguin, for example. The water was sickly green and the building itself looked old and desolate. I mean, it’s not in bad condition from the outside but it looked as if it’s neglected (at least they clean the dust). It would have been much better if they maintain all exhibit zones equally and trim trees near the paths. Some areas look outright creepy with overgrown trees.
Anyways, that’s about it for this Chiang Mai trip! It was fun and nostalgic… as well as delicious (I visited several places I love to eat at haha). The next day was all about me packing things, returning the rental motorcycle, and going to train station to return home, and then it’s a long night on the train. There will be a bonus entry for that though. It’s not very interesting, but some people might be.

Entry 4 : Chiang Mai (Day 1+2), Nostalgia
Warning : This trip has no exact travel schedule nor serious sightseeing. The entries come out mostly as telling about my nostalgic feeling and experience this time in Chiang Mai.
25 + 26 Feb 2018
It’s Indy once again, hello everyone! From the previous entries, you can probably assume I live near Bangkok, but that wasn’t always the case. I am originally from Chiang Mai. I lived there until certain age and moved here. Now that I’ve said about a location, you know where I am heading yes?
Train once more!
Wahoo! It’s trains yet again. I like trains, and I’m going to Chiang Mai with train! For this time, I get on the train at Bang Sue Junction Station. In the last entry, this station has already been mentioned so I won’t talk about it much this time.
I’ve been fond of trains since childhood. When I lived in Chiang Mai, I take trains to visit my relatives in Bangkok because it was easier for us that way. We’d take overnight trains and stayed with mom in same (or nearby) beds. Every ride was fun, but I can never explain why. Also yes, back then, the train were also old. SRT haven’t actually had any new train until few years ago.
Tumblr media
(We’re full of energy!)
Ah yeah, the guy over there in the picture is my brother. He appeared a few times in my Nongnooch Garden entry.
Anyways! So we got here before the train arrives and set our bags down. No pictures was taken during the time we look for food and drinks.
In the morning, there were constant announcement about incoming trains. A lot of trains travel past Bang Sue in the morning so it’s pretty normal but we always have to keep our ears ready too, for our train. The train we’re going with this time is an air-conditioned DMU, well not too bad. Originally we were planning to take an overnight train, but we couldn’t book the ticket so this is what we got. At least this train runs in the day and is a “Special Express” which is the quickest type of train on travels. Special Express trains only stop at major and junction stations.
After the train arrived, we get on it and set the bags down. We sit at the frontmost seats on the right side. The window is smaller than ones not at the front of the car, but at least it’s clear and isn’t dirty. The left side windows are well… super dusty and gave bad view.
Tumblr media
(You can see simplified State Railway of Thailand’s logo on the window at all times)
At 9:00 am, (or maybe slightly earlier) the train left Bang Sue and we’re onwards to the northern railway. On this side, while exiting Bangkok, after Don Mueang Station (there’s also airport here, same name as the area), there will start to be less city, and more grassy. Rangsit Station is the last station with metropolitan area vibe. Note that Rangsit area is actually in Pathumtani province, not Bangkok. It’s pretty common confusion here even among Thais themselves. Sometimes, the provinces that surround Bangkok are not so much different so this happens.
Tumblr media
(Soonly after exiting Rangsit Station. Compare with earlier image, taken near Don Mueang Station)
Because this is second class, they’ve got some services. Near 10 am on the train, beverages and snacks are served. There was tea, pineapple juice, fresh water, (and maybe coffeee, I didn’t pay attention) to choose from. The snack given to me on my trip was bread. It was okay, but I didn’t really like it. Still, not too shabby. There’s also simple lunch given at noon and another snack and drinks in late afternoon.
There wasn’t much to tell while I was on the train because of inability to walk around and the scenery consisting mostly of...trees. Before noon and early afternoon consists of mostly grasslands while late afternoon and evening has mountainous forest views. Here are some of the pictures along the way
Tumblr media
(Yup, lots of grass)
Tumblr media
(This is Bueng Boraphet. A natural lake-swamp area in Nakhon Sawan Province)
Tumblr media
(A stream seen on a mountain in vicinity of northern railway)
The northern railway had 4 tunnels total, and the longest one being the Khun Tan Tunnel, located on Khun Tan mountain. Sadly, I arrived there slightly after sunset so I didn’t take any picture. Khun Tan mountain sits between Lampang and Lamphun provinces. After descending Khun Tan, it’s only 1:30 hour-ish until my destination. With that, I arrived at Chiang Mai Station around 7 pm. From the station, there were “red cars” whom you can hire to go places. Price depends on where you go and who you are. If you’re foreigner, you might get priced more than usual, but there’s not really much choice in this town because all forms of transport here follows that style. Taxis might be more even between Thais and foreigners, but their minimum rate is higher.
And that’s the first day spent. I’m really sorry the day didn’t have much things to tell, but that’s why I included second day in the same entry. So continue onto the second day to see some more things!
The Second Day
I admit, this trip was just excuse to ride train and eat things I love in Chiang Mai. This is where the above reason gets apparent. My first destination was a noodle shop near the town’s moat. The shop is named “Rote Yiam” (literally “great taste”). They sell beef noodles, and it’s delicious! I always love eating here ever since I was young. Every of my visit after I moved to Nonthaburi consisted of eating at Rote Yiam once. Rote Yiam had several branches, but some seem to have closed. This one I visited this time is located near Sri Phum corner of the town. (Chiang Mai town is a rather simple one. There’s a moat which divides city into 4 corners and 4 gates areas. You can go pretty much anywhere of the town by remembering landmarks and zones.)
Tumblr media
(I eat simple noodles, but they’ve got more if you needed it)
Now that we’re here in Chiang Mai and not wanting to always use the “red cars”, we looked for rentals. We managed to rent a motorcycle and ride around. Well, my brother does. I don’t know how to drive anything lol.
Me and my brother talked for a while, then decided we would visit an easy place. We choose a place we often visit when we were little children and came here. Nong Buak Hard public park.
Park of Nostalgia
Tumblr media
(Always felt it was bigger 10 years ago...)
Sometimes also called “Suan Buak Hard”. It’s a rather small park sitting right next to the main road around the town’s moat. Even though, it is one of the most beautiful places in the town. Sometimes, there’s activities or festivals held here, but on regular days, it’s mostly a place for both locals and tourists to relax.
Tumblr media
(It’s really great place to relax here. You can easily forget that you’re right next to the road)
Tumblr media
(There’s places for kids too, don’t worry!)
When I was little, I remembered that this place was so vast and running around it is a big big task. The park was like a big open world for me, but now, it’s just a small park. Time really made differences eh? I sort of miss the time. Back then, everything was so quiet and simplistic. Chiang Mai wasn’t a heavy tourism city as it is now and there was not much of traffic, motorcycles, and foreigners. Also, internet wasn’t as easily accessible… but right now, there’s also free wifi in the park! Things changed a lot. I wish I have old images of the park, but back then the photos were taken with film camera, and it was only dad in my family who did so.
Tumblr media
(It’s always a lovely sight)
There’s a little story regarding this image. When we walked towards it, we saw this pretty angle so we both took pictures and stayed near the spot to talk, then the wind blew. The wind carried water to us and….. You got it, we’re wet haha. We laughed at each other (so much of good siblings) and immediately got to another area while still giggling and chuckling about the earlier events lol.
Tumblr media
(Looks like they’re preparing something)
Me and my brother took a stroll around the park. It was once a tiring task in my past, but this time, I barely sweat. It wasn’t that hot and thanks to trees, there’s good amount of shade around the park.
Tumblr media
(These are pretty)
We chatted about how we often came here and play and other things when we were young while walking around. After a while, we wanted to take some rest before moving elsewhere so we stayed here.
Tumblr media
(It’s on the pond so it’s great)
It was cool, even with the sun still blazing around. On this here, there’s some slight wind and there’s a pond directly below. Fish in the pond can be seen swimming around… and well, towards the people. Probably because it had been fed before. There was also some brightly-colored fish. They were quite big, but they don’t look so in my photo lol.
Tumblr media
(Will I grow bigger if I eat that golden one?)
The evening approached. It was 4:30 pm. We left the park and took a little stroll in the town roads. We even visited our old house for few moments, but didn’t get inside. We only stayed there for one or two minutes then left. We got around the city and eventually went to eat dinner.
Lake in dimming light
The daylight started to dim after we finished, but we had no need to rush to get back to beds. Since the restaurant we ate was near Chiang Mai University campus, we went inside. It’s actually also a shortcut from getting between front and back roads (Huay Kaew and Suthep roads respectively). I suggested my brother to visit Ang Kaew, a water reservoir inside the campus area.
Tumblr media
(This road curves along the edge of the reservoir, no bikes or cars allowed)
This reservoir stores water from the mountain, Doi Suthep which is directly the mountain of the foothills Chiang Mai town is located. The campus is right here, on the edge up the hill.
The dimming sunlight and fatigue from the day had drawn us to sit and enjoy the wind on the edge of this lake. We sat without being disturbed by anyone, even though there were many people around, relaxing, taking photos, jogging, walking, etc. It seemed there were no tourists however. I guess they went back. The campus had a tour for those who would like to visit around the campus area, but only during the day.
Tumblr media
(It’s not that big, but is a good place inside the campus)
There’s not much more worth mentioning so that’s the end of the day. Chiang Mai has a lot of beautiful places, and lots of them are among the not-so-obvious locations. I once lived here so I know some of the places, but that’s far from “all”. There’s much more places I’ve never visited nor ever heard of. But anyways, if you like this, don’t forget to read the next entries! Three more days in Chiang Mai left!

Entry 3 : Strolling On Birthday
20 Feb 2018
Indy here! It’s me again! Today is 20th February… that means.. It’s my birthday! I’ve decided to write a short entry about my little stroll to another train station for a ticket. That’s right! I’m going on a bigger trip soon!
This entry is also very much unexpected. I wasn’t planning to write about it since it was so short and has not much things, but I decided to anyway because it’s about one of the train station I often visit.
Ride with MRT
Yes, once again. I don’t have cars (nor I know how to drive) and taking buses into Bangkok is much of a bigger pain. Riding MRT is much more convenient for me and it’s also better that it’s fully air conditioned and isn’t bumpy (it’s easy to fall asleep on here actually lol).
Tumblr media
(This is Klong Bang Phai MRT Station. Terminus of Purple Line)
Unlike the near-noon ride I had from my first entry, the ride this time was rather empty. There was quite few people on the Purple Line, but it gets slightly more populated at some stations.
My destination this time is actually not so far from the last one, but due to how MRT Blue Line was built, this station and Hua Lamphong stations are on different ends and took roughly an hour to travel between. From Tao Poon, terminal of Purple Line, it’s only one station to my destination, but lots and lots to Hua Lamphong.
It was a comfortable ride today. Nothing serious happened nor any people that could cause discomfort. Plus, I got a good seat from start until finish of the line. The air conditioning was adequate as well. It brought my mood to be extra happy.
Today is also a good day. The dust fog that plagued Bangkok for several weeks prior has disappeared, thanks to the heavy rain yesterday. Bangkok has much clearer sky and vision today than the past days! I could see blue sky behind skyscrapers during my ride without either of them being tinted by brown or grey fog.
To Bang Sue, not to “bang” Sue
And so here we are. The Bang Sue Junction Station. This area gets quite a lot of pun from English-speakers but well… In Thai, it’s nothing close to the English pronunciation of the word. Anyways, the station is much less to see than Hua Lamphong
Tumblr media
(It looks more isolated than it seems)
Tumblr media
(The foreground one, not the background one)
Yes really, that’s how the station look like. The buildings are further to the left side of the picture, far further. Despite its looks, this station is actually one of the major and important stations in Bangkok area. This station is a “junction” station. These type of stations usually have lots of rails and switches and played huge part in train traffic, routes, and management. Bang Sue station also include Pahonyothin Freight Yard and diesel locomotive depot. However, those areas were far from the station buildings and ticket booths, and has few safe pathways (and I don’t think they’d allow outsiders in) so I don’t have photos of those areas.
Tumblr media
(It’s rather barren over this side, but there’s seats over there. Try squinting)
This station had seen better days in the past. It was once separated into two sides and had everything in better condition. There was once “North Bang Sue Station” and “South Bang Sue Station” for north/northeastern, and south/western lines. The North Bang Sue was demolished and now there’s only one Bang Sue station left. Most of the things here were left in poor state and has no plans to be fixed. This here is the reason why
Tumblr media
(Bang Sue Central Station, under construction)
This gigantic construction is the “new” Bang Sue station. It will be named Bang Sue Central Station and will become main terminal of all intercity, commuter, highspeed, and metro trains (except few metro, probably). It will replace the current Bang Sue and move the terminal here, also replacing Hua Lamphong which will become a museum afterwards.
This station was mentioned in my last entry on my way to Pattaya. I didn’t have picture of it from the other angle, but I do have some from this old Bang Sue. The new station would be so massive and a paradise for railfans. It will have grand total of 24 platforms! The good ol’ diesel boys will be on level 2 while the metro EMU will be on level 3. I wonder if I can get inside the metro train platforms without having needs to travel.
Tumblr media
(It’s HUGE)
There’s barely anything of interest here. Most people who are here are to get on trains. From all of my visits, I have not seen any westerners getting on at this station. Unlike Hua Lamphong where trains stays for hours, trains that stops at Bang Sue only does so for few minutes. I’ve also get on trains from here as well. It was quite a rush because of how my trains stayed for less than five minutes, and some even less than two minutes.
Aside from the seats and buildings, the area was quite barren. Thankfully, there’s some local shops to liven that up. Along the length of the station, there’s shops. There’s local food stalls, snack stalls, drink stalls, and two ATM. Yeah, mostly food stuffs.
Tumblr media
(You can eat here if you want, or you can eat elsewhere if you want too)
Better than having nothing at all, but I can’t say about price and quality of the food stalls because I’ve never eaten here. For the snack stalls, they’re okay. The snacks are priced at regular rate, unlike at major tourist stations where items are overpriced to some extent. (Chiang Mai Station is one bad offender, with some stalls pricing one can of Pringles at 80 Baht! Standard price = 55 Baht.)
Waiting for brother
I’m mostly here to watch trains come and go, passing the station. I have that strange hobby most people wouldn’t understand why. A lot of people thought trains, especially our old trains are boring, but I think otherwise! They’re pretty interesting on how old stuffs can still run and it has a distinct atmosphere to it! It also probably have to deal with nostalgic feelings because when I was little, train was my primary travel method into Bangkok. Back then, I lived in Chiang Mai province (about 700 km by road away from Bangkok) and always take “Nakhon Ping Express” which is second class sleeper train to Bangkok. But well.. This isn’t my main reason to be here today. I’m here today to buy tickets for my travel, but my brother had yet to arrive and we agreed to talk about it here when he come. I decided to take a walk around the far end of the station where I never go (but of course, I won’t walk off the platforms, it’s risky with trains and other things).
Oh by the way, there’s a sign right in front of ticket booth displaying train timetables for both departing and returning trips. The sign has two sides and is a big list. The picture I took was from my earlier visits at this station for reference about train timetables and casual “watch running trains” trips of mine.
Tumblr media
(Half of the single side. Number of all trains stopping at Bang Sue is ones in this list x4)
The platform extends quite long. Well, actually, really long! But not surprising since southern lines, especially express trains can have up to 14-16 cars whereas northern line has only 10-13 cars. I was lucky that about the time I walked to almost the end of the platform, Special Express 37+45 came and I was almost at the locomotive when it stops! I took a little more walk and snapped photo of the train.
Tumblr media
(I like how that Alsthom is right next to the sign)
I watched the train and its cars, people getting on, and the staff loading passenger’s larger belongings onto the train. When they finished, the train immediately left the station and I continued my walk a little further, past the sign seen in the above image.
Scary Encounter
At the end of the platform, I found a nice location to take picture of the tracks stretching further than one’s eyesight so I took some moments setting up my position and angle then took photos.
Tumblr media
(If you try really hard, you can still see back of SP. Express 37/45 in the picture)
I’ve gotten a nice picture and exploring areas I have never visited was a great feeling, and it was my birthday so I wasn’t expecting bad things, but all those feelings were cut short…
There was a dog nearby! It came out from nowhere (but possibly from local houses or shops) and it’s not happy I’m in its territory! It came barking at me and came closer and closer every bark. It stared at me and I stared it too, occasionally shouting at it so it would stop coming closer. It.. sort of worked, but not every time. I can’t turn back and run, if I do, the dog will probably chase me. Before I knew what exactly to do, it’s right next to me…
I really thought I would meet a terrible fate on my birthday. I am dead afraid of dogs, even I could shout and make myself look scary, I was tembling and my heart beat at uncomfortable pace. I really don’t know how to deal with dogs or even run away from them. I’m not a fast runner nor fighter, and I had no weapon, not even a water bottle with me at that point. The station security weren’t here because they need to take care of areas with passengers (no one stays here unless they’re really at the front of the train). The other staffs aren’t here either.
Luckily, one of the local people came and stopped the dog in which the dog promptly walked onto one of the rails and… pee, probably to mark its territory and tell me to get out. The person then held the dog and I immediately went back to area with crowd. It was a bad idea to come here alone, especially when I’m a defenseless girl and filled with scent of cats (I have two cats at home and I like cuddling them... but they don’t ;^;).
Ticket Time!
After the dog matter, I bought some water and snack to chill myself out while waiting for my brother. I ate some and watch the trains come by and go. When I finished the first bag, a train come, and it’s an DMU. Normally I’m not very fond of them but since they’re still trains, I took some photo anyway. Most of them were blurry so I had to delete them. This is one of the surviving photo.
Tumblr media
(DMUs got different paint here. They’re mostly blue, but different blues and other colors for each model)
Just then, my brother arrived so we went to the timetable board, talked somewhat, and decided about the trains we’ll take. Obviously, we went to the ticket booth… to find out that the train we wanted was fully booked! Neither of us were expecting that so we asked for same train, but other days. Turned out they were full too! This sent us into headaches and brainstorming for solutions.
We almost gave up, but after thinking thoroughly, we found another solution. Originally we wanted air conditioned sleepers for both departing and returning trips, but we couldn’t have that. In the end, we got second class + air conditioned sitting car for departing trip, and second class sleeper for returning one. Honestly, I almost cried when we almost gave up. I was in disappointment and I had always wanted to take a train somewhere with my brother, without having parents around. It was like a birthday miracle, he accepted the solution that he normally wouldn’t choose and I was saved from the disappointment. I was filled with joy so much that after the ticket came into my hands, I smiled all the time.
With ticket in my hands, we watched one last train coming to Bang Sue Junction Station. (I forgot to take picture because tickets were in my hands, sorry! ;w;) and then descend into underground, taking MRT back to a local supermarket (well it’s kinda department store too, but not quite) near my home.
Birthday Dinner!
Yes! Today is my birthday and I get off the MRT right at the store for exactly this! Me and my family intended to have dinner at Bar B Q Plaza restaurant (it doesn’t have actual BBQ, ironically. It’s more of beef/pork grilling pan style thing). I always love eating here. There’s some food that doesn’t taste the same elsewhere. My family only occasionally eat at restaurants in supers and dept stores, but this request was granted for my birthday! We had a great time there and fun chatting about things, the planned trips. I also got a gift from my mom… as money! She said that I’m already grown up so I can have money to buy myself something. It was a pretty special gift for me. Formerly, my mom gives me a gift as an object or as payment for video game console I wanted, but sometimes, it was something I didn’t wanted that year. This gift perfectly answers me right now!
After we spent some time talking about my birthday, we went to Swensen’s for some ice cream. Tuesday is the day with special promotion, and it was my birthday so we’re very willing to eat here this time!
Tumblr media
(Cutie guy with a chocolate cone!)
Stroll at place related to train, see trains, getting train ticket, nice dinner, and good ice cream! It’s a great birthday! I’m fully 20 now and I am an adult. I realize that 20 is pretty young and I’m still much inexperienced, but that means there’s much more things out there for me to discover! I’m going to use that fact to the fullest and bring more stories next times!

Entry 1 : Revisit to Hua Lamphong
12 Feb 2018
Hello! I’m Indy and I love trains. I enjoy seeing trains, especially ones that are ready for passenger transport! My personal favorite locomotive are among the diesel ones. I like steam locomotives too, but diesel ones happened to have been closer to me and easier to recognize. DMUs and EMUs are fine as well, but I’m not very fond of riding them compared to standard sitting carriages.
I live in Thailand (no, not related to Taiwan) and I’m happy to be here. There’s some nice things around and so do trains! Trains in Thailand reaches out to major cities in four directions- north, northeast, south, and east. The capital city Bangkok is also a terminal for the aforementioned lines, and that’s where I went today.
Starting off
I live in Nonthaburi, a province to northwest of Bangkok. It’s not very far and it’s considered as metropolitan area as well. Because I’m a fan of trains, I rode the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) which uses EMUs and travel into Bangkok. To get into Bangkok with MRT from where I live, it requires getting on at Klong Bang Phai station, which is the terminal of “purple line” and onwards to Tao Poon station to interchange with “blue line”. Blue line is the one who will take us right to Hua Lamphong Railway Station.
Tumblr media
(MRT Purple Line EMU, manufactured by J-TREC)
Tumblr media
(MRT Blue Line EMU, Siemens Modular Metro)
I’ll have to thank myself to wake up earlier than usual on Monday so I get to ride on the two EMUs in a more crowded condition than other times I went to Hua Lamphong. I’m not actually sure whether it’s because it was noon or Monday that caused the change in atmosphere. I didn’t like it though, it made me feel uncomfortable. But anyways, it was only a few moment of that and soon I reached the destination.
Return to Sunlight
After an hour or so of being underground with blue line (it doesn’t felt that long though) and scanning my MRT card out of the station, the escalator on Exit #2 led me back to the light, and right in the vicinity of the Railway Station. In fact, the escalator emerged almost at platform #12 and #11! Embracing the (hot) sunlight, but with trains in vicinity, it was a great feeling.
Tumblr media
(Station’s sign, with two trains nearby)
Hua Lamphong Railway Station, also known as Bangkok Railway Station. As said earlier, is the terminal of all railway lines. The station has 14 platforms, a DMU depot, and connects to MRT. The station originally opened in 1916. It has now been upgraded with digital departure and arrival displays, updating in real time, individual platform displays, and some more things for the 2000s.
I’m not here for first time by the way. I’ve been here numerous times before, but this is the first time I decided to keep record of what I’ve seen and done during my travels. Anyways, now it’s time to explore again! ...Except I haven’t had a meal since waking up so I had to eat first. The station’s food cost around 40 - 50 Baht and taste so-so (for me, but for you it might be tasty haha).
Platform Hopping
As I reached the platforms area, I am greeted by the noise of electric generators mounted under of every air conditioned cars. I actually love those noise, even they’re quite noisy and can be nuisance. I started hopping around from #8 to #4. Most of the trains that were ready to leave were on there (1 pm). I saw something interesting on #4…
Tumblr media
(Left : Taksinarat, I forgot what’s on the right)
Both of these are sleeper cars, and air-conditioned to boot. They’re from different times (and manufacturers). Right one being something around 10 - 20 years old, and the left one is only 1 year old.
Tumblr media
(Shiny shiny exterior)
This glossy train is called “CNR Special Express”, each with individual names. It was so so that they could tell it apart from older types which may also be special express. The names are as follows Taksinarat, Utrawithee, Isanmakkha, and Isanwattana. These glossy trains are among my most favorite passenger car types. They’ve got electrical sockets which no other Thai train types has (yet), and a display screen that displays information about timetable, stations, train speed, temperature, and even toilet vacancy status! These features are lovely and are only seen on CNR types. I also happen to have some habit of taking photos of any CNR types every time I come to this station haha.
The Taksinarat Special Express is scheduled to leave the station on 2:45 pm so I didn’t want to snoop around on the inside. I might be carried along without ticket (lol). Oh you heard right. Here in Thailand, you can snoop around or even sit on the train without ticket, but be sure to get down before it leaves (also please give the seats to rightful owners when they arrive). If you’re not feeling well about that, you can ask for permission from the staff around the train. They won’t bite and are mostly friendly <3
After admiring the shiny train, I walked to platform 7. The other platform has trains, but no locomotives. It was quite lonely without the noisy generators. The trains on platform 5 to 8 at that time had little to no air-conditioned cars. It was quite hot at that time because there was sunlight shining directly onto the platform grounds. That wouldn’t stop me though. I’m full of energy when there’s trains around!
Tumblr media
(Alsthom has unique details and is the most abundant locomotive in SRT)
And here’s an Althom model AD24C (Will just call it with Alsthom from now on) on the far end of the train, getting ready to leave.
While on this platform, I talked to a girl who was taking photos of trains for her work. She said these trains are “really Thai”. To be fair, they are quite unique on their own, even they weren’t built from scratch by Thais. All, except the CNR are over 20 years old. Special honor goes to General Electric UM13C which are over 50 years old! There’s 45 of those still in use in Thailand, but sadly I didn’t see one this time. But maybe I’ll share one image I took from my previous visits.
Tumblr media
(“Grandpa” GE, Picture taken on 30 Dec 2017)
With that said, one of the uniqueness of Thai trains under operation of SRT (State Railway of Thailand) is that they are old, but they are still working, either still functioning fine or repaired over and over. Many countries would have retired things that are this old. SRT owns the entire intercity railway and all the Thai trains. MRT and BTS on the other hand, operate the rapid transit EMUs in Bangkok and surrounding provinces and uses rather new EMUs. The only exception now would be Airport Rail Link (ARL) which uses Siemens Desiro class 360/2. ARL is operated by SRT.
Afterwards, I walked back to platform 3 to see if anything has changed. Apparently, it was yet to be the time Taksinarat was scheduled to leave, so I took the walk and hoped that the train on platform #3 is shorter than Taksinarat so I could get some photo of the glossy train from another angle. Turned out I was wrong, but I have gotten photo of this train, and the other train on platform #2
Tumblr media
(It’s kind of lonely here)
Tumblr media
(French Alsthom vs Japanese Hitachi)
I started getting tired after walking along several trains with 10 or more passenger cars so I decided to walk back into the interior of the station and rest. While resting, Taksinarat left. I spent an hour resting and chatting with a middle-aged lady in the station about trains. She complains quite a lot on how of her favorite passenger car was moved to another train after the CNR type came into service.
Around 4 pm, I started walking again. This time at platform 8. There’s not much to see here, except a short train, without a locomotive.
Tumblr media
(Really nothing much here)
Then I noticed something totally unexpected. Something that confuses me even now.
Tumblr media
(Tiny....garden???)
I can’t figure out why would someone put plants here, between the tracks of platform 8 and 7. I really have no idea what would this be for either. But aside from that, it’s nice to see haha. A strange thing for some change, maybe?
Then I walked back to platform 4 again, to wait for another CNR special express to come. While there, I looked back and noticed something neat on platform 9. It’s a CM22-7i locomotive (commonly called GEA here). It wasn’t there when I was platform 8 and it would be a pain to cross the tracks back then when I just crossed to here so here’s a picture of it.
Tumblr media
(2500 horsepower, by America)
By the way, on platform 4, there’s some warning signs… well, painting. They look quite… unsettling but I think it’d give good warnings. They are put into frame to be preserved. The look of the frame and painting itself look quite… in contrast? That’s what I think. Oh also, the artist who made them was also a famous horror novel author. Here are the signs
Tumblr media
(Left :  Don’t throw things at the train. Right : Don’t poke your yourself out of the window while riding)
Tumblr media
(Left : Don’t walk through between cars or you’ll get squashed
Right : Don’t sleep/lie down on tracks)
Tumblr media
(Left : Be careful of passing train when crossing tracks while there’s a train on it
Right : Don’t ride on the roof)
Tumblr media
(Left : Careful of being pinched by switches while walking in the station
Right : Make sure no train is coming while crossing tracks)
Tumblr media
(Left : Look for trains before crossing the bridge
Right : Don’t get on/off while train is moving)
After that, I spent some moment chatting to the janitor on platform 4 about the incoming CNR special express. For the one soon to come, it is Utrawithee of northern line. Normally it would arrive at Hua Lamphong station near 4:00 pm, but something appeared to be different today.
Lucky, lucky day!
The janitor was right. Something different happened here. A train is coming to platform 3. On my other visits, there has never been a train on platform 3 after the previous one had left (it supposedly left somewhere around 3-4 pm). And so the unusual train revealed itself…
youtube
That’s not what you’d see here every day. It’s Eastern & Oriental Express! A luxury train operating in Thailand, Malaysian, and Sigapore railways. According to people, E&O is kind of like a cruise ship, but it’s a train… so cruise train? (lol). E&O has unique color scheme, green and gold as opposed to local Thai trains’ purplish hues. E&O is a not part of SRT, but made agreement with them to use Thai railway and locomotives for their trips. Hua Lamphong’s staff said that this special train visits here only twice or thrice a month, and stays for 2-3 days each visit. That’s not very often, I’d say. This is my very first time seeing it with my own eyes and first time seeing it at Hua Lamphong.
But that’s not the end of it! Roughly ten minutes after E&O has properly stopped, another train approached. Yes, it is what I was expecting. Another glossy CNR type. Utrawithee Special Express has arrived! Firstly, the glossily-painted Hitachi locomotive moved itself into another track. Then, a GE locomotive coupled from the back of incoming train (which will become front soon), then pushed the passenger cars into the platform. Lastly, GE left, and Hitachi took its place and awaits the passenger. Utrawithee is scheduled to leave on 6:20 pm. Here’s a video of the train being pushed into the platform.
youtube
Now that’s lovely! Two of the really special trains are together! I couldn’t hold myself back from running and squeeing! Utrawithee has special place in my heart. Twice I travelled with it, and I am in deep love for it. It was my first train after ten years of absence of contact with trains. It was like a nostalgia, but improved in quality! The train I rode when I was young was retired and replaced with Utrawithee, but that’s for the better things and I’m one of the people who fell in love with it.
Utrawithee itself, like other CNR types, has velvet seats (complete with velvet color) and white interiors, as opposed to green interior of older types. It also have WiFi available in restaurant car. Utrawithee as total of 13 cars, excluding the locomotive. It may not be as luxurious as E&O next to it, but it is clearly much better than older types. Utrawithee takes 12-13 hours travels overnight from Bangkok - Chiang Mai and vice versa whereas E&O takes 3 nights from Bangkok - Singapore. I have a little wish that one day, I’ll take a ride on E&O.
With two of the trains I long to see together, I ran around and tried taking photos of nice angles, but with difficult positioning, it was much harder to take photo of Utrawithee. Here are the pictures that didn’t turn out too bad.

(My friend called this “Strawberry Milkshake”. Extra cute <3)
But here’s a problem. No matter where I go, there’s no angle that could take photo of both trains’ passenger cars at once! Whichever direction, there’s locomotive. It kept me frustrated for a while then I went to sit next to Utrawithee. I thought of finding the nice staff whom I met on my previous trip on this train and other visits at Hua Lamphong station. I asked one of the staff who was standing on car no.6. He knew her, but sadly, the one I was looking for was at Chiang Mai at the moment. So I started talking with him instead. I also asked him where I could take nice picture of both Utrawithee and E&O together, and he said told me that between the two would be ideal, and  gladly opened the door for me to get there and take photos! I couldn’t thank him enough and here are the pictures I got from being in between the two.
Tumblr media
(A : Facing the station)
Tumblr media
(B : Facing the path out of the station)
Feeling thankful and in great mood, I went to the nice guy staff and thanked him, then started talking more. A lot of topics were discussed, but among them, there’s one topic about trains having their own charm. Both of us agreed that travelling by train has a special atmosphere and view that no other vehicle has. Normally, Thai trains runs through rural areas, fields, and even mountains, with contact with cities come in only near major or provincial stations so it would be natural that train ride gives unique scenery!
Time flies, I talked to him without realizing I spent time talking with him from 5:00 until 6:20 without a break aside from when passengers come to board the train at his position. At 6:20, the station sounded the bell which prompted him to get back on the train and we said goodbyes to each other. With Utrawithee left and sunlight disappearing, I felt that it was time to go home so I had dinner and went back underground to catch MRT home.
A Little Stop
Up until this point, I haven’t wrote about chatting and anything about my friend haha. I do have a friend I often chat with and know in real life. She lives near me, and she also happened to be working near one of the stations I’m passing, so I took a little stop at Queen Sirikit Center station and got down to meet with her.
Tumblr media
(This goes underground. Were you expecting something else?)
I’m not really familiar with the area and the lights of the metropolis at night actually, but I was glad my friend came right to the escalators so I met her right away. We walked together a bit and talked. I told her about my adventures today and other things. We had a great time together even if it was short. We then ride same train home.
