Every time I take a walk along the Discovery Trail in Long Beach (WA, not CA), I get a kick out of this sign. I know fully well what it was originally referring to, and yet I can't help but appreciate the utter smartassery of likely multiple people adding their commentary in the form of literal stickers. Technically, yeah, it's vandalism, but it's pretty low-level vandalism, and if the additional visual interest gets people's attention about the warning, and also makes them smile, that's a bonus.
Also, FWIW, these are the "stickers" the sign is supposed to be warning people about:
This is sandcarpet, Cardionema ramosissimum. It's a native plant that grows along the Pacific shoreline of North America from the northern end of Washington down to Baja California. It's pretty benign when green, but once summer hits and vegetation begins to dry out, the flowers turn into these horribly sharp, pointy little seeds that bury themselves into the hair or skin of any passing animal, human included. Unlike goat's heads (Tribulus terrestris), sandcarpet's spurs won't poke through shoe soles or bike tires, but if you track them indoors (or walk around barefoot outside) they will painfully pierce skin, hence the sign warning people not to tread on this particular plant.

Forces of Nature by Ewebie (E, 18,369 w., 1 Ch. || Unilock || Rugby Captain John, Hammock Sex, Bad Jokes) – Sherlock watched as the man pushed himself out of the water and onto the floating dock constantly anchored in the middle of the lake. Oh. He was… He was quite tanned. Broad shoulders sloped into a narrow, muscular waist and tapered hips that disappeared into the navy swim trunks. Somehow the breadth of the shoulders made the thighs and legs that appeared out of the bottom of the trunks look delicate. Tanned in their own right and powerful, but oddly proportionate to the shorter stature the man seemed to possess. Sherlock watched the water run off of him, down his back, tracing a path along his spine and through the pleasing fossae lumbales laterales and lumbar lordosis into the waistband of the trunks. Sherlock swallowed. Shit.

It is there that he meets Sherlock Holmes: a class A asshole too smart for his own good. John expects a long, dull, lonely summer. The Hunter & The Wolf - Chapter II
Previous Chapter
Masterlist
Geralt returned to his lodgings soaked to the bones, but the cold seeping into his skin and latching onto him tight was easy to ignore as he reminisced the chaos that he had endured only moments earlier. He did not know how to feel about the events which had only just unfolded, and it seemed whenever he tried to distract his mind his trailing thoughts would return to the girl until it became submerged in images of her, thoughts of her.
He huffed to himself, a quiet and gruff 'fuck' spilling from his lips as he returned to the bed and sank into it. He tried to distract his mind with thoughts of myths and legends, beasts and creatures once more as he forced himself to close his eyes in an attempt to catch at least a few hours of sleep before they left the village, instead his thoughts returned to her. He found his heart skipping a beat, a sensation of falling curling in his chest as he forced his breathing to slow - then he felt it, the feeling roiling in his chest beginning to settle and hum in an elated tone. He gave in, allowed his mind to overturn the events, to reminisce her touch and to remember her - to remember and dwell and give in to every fibre of her existence he had been able to experience. And slowly, as seconds ticked by he fell into a placated slumber - his heart content that his mission was complete.
Geralt gave into the idea of sleep easily, after all he needed to travel to the banquet in Cintra tomorrow.
***
It did not take long for Andromeda to hide the signs of her conquest before the the maids had entered her chambers - brandished in arm-fulls of lavish gowns, perfumes and jewellery the trio of women rushed indoors, eyes bulging as they took in the sight of her. It was still in the early hours of the day, she had gotten no sleep, her skin dry and blanched, and her hair was still damp from her underwater escapades. The four of them just stared at each other in silence before Andromeda cleared her throat in awkwardness, the sound breaking the maids out of their stupor and sending them forward in a flurry of exasperation - "the banquet is tonight Princess we cannot have you looking like you spent the night in the woods."
Andromeda seemed affronted at the words of the tallest maid - Cordelia - although somewhat surprised at how accurate her comparison had been, after all she had been in the woods for most of the night. "I had trouble sleeping," Cordelia and her closest friends - Arina and Seeli - seemed to accept her answer, although seemingly sheepish for the words they had misspoken. They nodded in concession before laying their mounds of clothes and jewellery atop the bed, in favour of pulling the Princess in the direction of the bathing room attached to her chambers - after all a banquet was taking place in the castle today, and it would be the first Andromeda would be allowed to attend despite having to maintain the secrecy of who she was.
She was pulled aside in the washroom, with Arina and Seeli ushering guards to fill the tub with steaming buckets of water, to have her hair brushed through and unknotted by Cordelia's skilled fingers. Andromeda kept her whimpers of pain to herself and endured the attentiveness of her maids. After all, she had to look her best today - make her family proud even if no one knew she was their's.
Once the bath was filled to a size that satisfied the maids, they filled the body of water with heaps of salts and liquids, causing a strong perfumed scent of lavender to taint the air. They ushered her towards the tub, and as she stripped herself of the dry robe she had replaced the soaked one with, she turned her back to the trio to remove her veil and keep herself hidden from their sights. She knew she had claimed to have no care of her appearance, but even she could not deny the heartache she would suffer if they were to express horror at the sight of her face. Her heart had stuttered as she began to step in, the water rippling against her calves reminding her of the death she almost faced, before the temperature had set in and snatched her from the almost-reality, the heat akin to the same sensation she had felt in the arms of him. She took in a forced breath of air, begging her heart to slow its anticipation before sighing quietly to herself as hands reached towards her - scrubbing at her arms with soaped cloths, fingers digging into her scalp with suds and throwing water at every part of her body not submerged in water. She brought her own hands towards her face, scrubbing vigorously as though trying to remove his face from her memories, as though trying to remove the scars her past left behind.
He was beautiful - pale skin with darkness leaking from his eyes and painting his face in a devastating portrait, with broad shoulders and a muscled torso which absorbed the moonlight that had shone on it highlighting the marks of horror that adorned his body. Her mind soared at the sensation of familiarity that flooded through her body - his scars, deep and brutal. Permanent. Just like her own. He reminded her of the moon - the craters covering its surface doing nothing but adding more to its ethereal beauty, emanating a glowing sense of comfort and light.
So lost in her thoughts, she had not realised her hands had fallen to her sides, and the water had run cold, at least not until she was nudged again by Cordelia. Her movements were quiet and cautious as she moved her hands in front of Andromeda's face. It took Andromeda a moment to realise what she was holing... her veil. Andromeda froze as Cordelia continued her gesture - Arina and Seeli already having left the washroom - she was careful as she gently placed the band to rest on the bridge of Andromeda's nose, paying mind not to tie the ribbon around her tapered ears before tying it securely behind her head. There was a moment of quiet - Cordelia could see Andromeda needed a moment to herself, so the homely woman with worn hands and a sun-beaten face left her alone to collect herself.
There were only a few people in the castle who knew she was an elf - her mother, sister, her three maids, and the two guards, which shadowed her every move. Her heritage remained hidden from everyone else, the only solution Calanthe had thought of to keep her safe - 'until due time,' she had said but now years had passed and Pavetta was already planning her future betrothal whilst she was confined to the walls of the castle, so when?
Andromeda's breath had caught in her throat, forcing herself not to dwell on her lack of freedom and instead force herself out of the tub. She could not dally at a time like this, so she stepped out cold water - her mind shivered at the familiar feeling as goosebumps scattered across her body - reaching for her robe to tie it across her body before exiting the washroom.
She looked up as she left the room coming face-to-face with the dresses and jewellery that had been laid out for her, Arina already piling pins and clips onto the dressing table thinking of ways to style her hair into a presentable fashion and Cordelia pulling out palettes of colours to paint the parts of her face that would be visible to the members of the banquet. She looked towards Seeli, the woman with greying auburn hair, despite her youth, tied back into a sensible knot - she leaned forward in excitement as she mumbled to herself about which shade of red would suit Andromeda best, pressing the gowns against her skin with vigour and switching between them.
A small smile pulled itself across her face. This would be a long morning, but to finally see others apart from the castle staff would be worth the trouble. Today would be her second taste of freedom - although she was not quite sure if she would enjoy it as much as the first.
***
Geralt felt uncomfortable as he walked briskly at Jaskier's side as they prepared for the banquet which had already begun, a false protector meant to keep him safe from the consequences of the relationships he had broken with his sensual pursuits. The banquet is being held in honour of finding Princess Pavetta a betrothed, with whom she may rule Cintra with and it seemed that anyone and everyone who would want to murder poor Jaskier would be congregating there. Geralt held back a smirk at that, listening to Jaskier's constant droning, thinking about how he, a bard, had caused such catastrophe everywhere he went because 'wives, concubines, mothers sometimes' found his charm irresistible enough to risk a relationship with a wealthy man. He forced a look of pure contempt upon his face - "ooh yeah, that face! Scary face! No Lord in his right mind will come close if you're standing next to me with a puss like that." Geralt's face soured further at his comment, annoyance with a mix of fondness combing through his expression as Jaskier expressed his thoughts on keeping Geralt sober.
"I will not suffer tonight sober just because you hid your sausage in the wrong pantry."
Jaskier looked miffed and slightly meek at his broad expression, but Geralt continued seemingly much more serious now, "I'm not killing anyone. Not over the petty squabbles of men."
"Yes, yes, yes. You never get involved." A breath, "except you actually do, all of the time." Geralt's mind flashed back to the scene at the lake, how he had gotten involved, much more than he had intended. Much more than he should have. But he kept his expression the same, not giving away the feeling of surprise he felt bubble up his throat at the revelation.
Geralt deflected, "Ugh. Is this what happens when you get old? You get unbearably crotchety and cantankerous?"
"Actually, I've always wanted to know, do witchers ever retire?" There was true curiosity hidden behind his tone, and Geralt found himself relieved at the change of topic fearful that if they were to continue down the previous line of discussion he will say something that would give away his previous nights activity - although he was not ashamed of his actions, he found a growing need to keep it close to himself.
"Yeah. When they slow and get killed."
"Come on, you must want something for yourself once all this... monster hunting nonsense is over with."
Even though he tried his best not to, the flashes on her run through his mind once more, but he forced himself forward - "I want nothing." Nothing? Is that truly what he desired? He simply could not allow himself to have more, take more, than what he had already been given. Being a Witcher was his life's mission. Nothing more.
"Well, who knows? Maybe someone out there will want you." His traitorous heart yearned for something his mind admonished, "I need no one. And the last thing I need is someone needing me." The pair went silent after that, continuing through their ministrations before Jaskier presented Geralt with the clothes he would be wearing for the event. The expression of contempt which painted itself across his face was now a true reflection of his emotions - "what? Your other clothes were sort of... covered in selkiemore guts, so I sent them away to be washed. Anyway, you're not going tonight as a Witcher."
Geralt sighed once more. He truly was growing a habit of doing so as the days went by.
***
The banquet was boisterous and full of life, lavish with every guest dressed in their finest clothings - everything to pull for the Queen's attention and show off their wealth and privilege to others. Geralt was unsure of whether he enjoyed the sight of blooming colours, controlled laughs and formal conversations although after seeing the joy on Jaskier's face as he took in the scenery himself, Geralt could not help but give in to the small ounce of enjoyment he felt - hoping it would grow as he joined in on the heavy drinking of ale and other alcoholic beverages. He was not here as a Witcher, not today.
"Right, so stick to me, look mean and pretend you're a mute." Geralt rolled his eyes at that, despite his dislike of humans he knew they despised him enough that many here would recognise him and possibly even fear him, or at least be angered by his presence. Although, that perception was snatched from him altogether due to the jolly greeting he was served by Mousesack - "Geralt of Rivia, the mighty Witcher! I haven't seen you since the Plague."
"Good times, Mousesack."
Mousesack laughed in response, taking in Geralt's expression, which had not changed in the slightest from when he had first entered the castle walls - "I've missed your sour expression. I feared this would be a dull affair, but now the White Wolf is here. Perhaps all is not lost." Geralt seemed to relax at those words, despite the hatred he may have faced from other Lords and Ladies, if Mousesack was happy with his presence the rest would have to put up with him too.
"Why are you dressed like a sad silk trader?"
Jaskier floundered like a fish out of water as Geralt sent a pointed look his way, as to say 'this is your fault.' Mousesack laughed all the same, "walk with me," and as he followed to walk at Mousesack's side - Jaskier being distracted by other musicians - he heard cheers chanted in his direction for his companion - "To Mousesack!"
They all cheered, raising their cups of beverages, rejoicing "to Mousesack!" even Geralt struggled to hide his amusement.
The pair continued to converse, Mousesack informing him of the purpose of tonight's banquets and pointing out each suitor vying for Pavetta's hand in marriage but, leaning over in supposed secrecy, he brought him into a secret only he was aware of. "The Lioness has already arranged the marriage between Pavetta and the red-headed scanderlout over there - Crach an Craite - with the boy's uncle, Eist Tuirseach. No one would dare make a move on an alliance that powerful." Geralt found himself agreeing, his attention then shifting over to Eist himself, and Mousesack following his gaze.
"Queen Calanthe refused his proposal three times after King Roegner died, despite the two of them gliding around each other like courting swans," Geralt could not hold in his snort at those words, he could imagine it now and see how Eist stared after the Queen - desire burning through his gaze.
Words were passed again back and forth, a small confrontation on behalf of Jaskier to save his hide but not without embarrassing him just a little. And then the announcement was made, bringing everyone's attention towards the long table sitting empty at the front of the banquet hall, the Herald spoke - "All rise for Her Majesty, the Lioness," at the sight of her, Geralt realised, Eist's gaze burned even brighter as though ignited with determination. The voice continued, "Queen Calanthe of Cintra!"
Voices cheered in synchrony, as the proud and jovial voice of Calanthe echoes through the hall, "apologies, noble sirs. A few upstart townships in the south needed reminding who was Queen. Now ready your suitor's tales of glory, good Lords - my daughter is eager to have this over with. As am I. Bard, music!"
At her command, Jaskier began to serenade the crowd around him, and Geralt took this as his opportunity to assess his surroundings. The first person he saw was Pavetta - her pale skin and bleached hair, her dark green gown sewn from expensive materials and jewelled body drawing every man's attention in her direction. His gaze passed over her with ease, moving to the woman that stood beside her - his heart stuttered to a panicked stop.
Andromeda stood at her sister's side, consoling her as best she could without drawing attention to herself - if she was to be revealed as an elf in front of such a mass she would not escape with her life. So she stood silently behind her sister's left hand side, gripping her hand using their gowns to conceal their hands, with a strength so sure of itself that she hoped Pavetta could feel her thoughts if she could not hear them - that she was there for her, by her side with any decision she made. Calanthe may have saved Andromeda's life that day and taken her in as own, but it was Pavetta who helped nurse her back, helped her learn to accept herself - scars and all. Pavetta had taught her so many life lessons. She owed everything to her and so much more. She felt heard as Pavetta responded with a shaky squeeze of her hand. As long as Andromeda was by her side, she would make it through the banquet and accept the fate that was to come.
Andromeda looked over her sister, proud of the woman she had become and the beauty she had held. What she had not seen was Calanthe looking towards her, admiring her love for her sister and the strength she leant her - Calanthe was proud of the daughters she had raised.
Despite having to keep her origins hidden, Andromeda stood tall and proud dressed more sensual than would be expected of Royalty. Except today, in the eyes of the Lords and Lady, she would be no more than a special guest of the Queen - and for now, she was content with that.
Geralt was still staring at her in unfathomable awe and unabashed interest - it was her - taking in her burnished skin radiating under the lights of the hall, a golden aura seeping from her skin as her gown wrapped flawlessly around the contortions of her body. A deep red, that of beautiful burgundy wine merging into a stain of freshly dried blood, hugged her chest leaving her shoulders bare as it travelled down her forearms spilling delicately around her hands to cover the rings and bracelets of gold that decorated them. The skirt flowed carelessly around her hips, the table hiding the rest of his view but he could see the slits that ran down them - two precise parallel incisions that seemingly travelled the distance of her legs and gave way to a sight that was hidden from him. Geralt found himself in a stupor from the disappointment he felt at that realisation. Her hair was tied back, but slivers of curls managed to escape the intricate braids scattered through her hair that had been pulled back into a soft and loose bun, the hairstyle brought together by a circlet placed atop her hair - thin chains of gold decorating her hair in scattered ripples as a pure and naive imitation of a crown, the ends of the chain falling alongside the slivers of hair down her back. Her face was covered once again, and so had been the tips of her ears using her hair to which he was unsurprised by, a delicate veil the shade of gold was wrapped around it - this one much thicker than the one she had worn last night - obscuring any sight of her smile. She looked ethereal. There were no other words to describe her, and he found himself fixated upon the sight of her, hoping she would look his way.
Geralt was never one to believe in destiny, but as she glanced in his direction, he found himself thanking them anyway. He saw how her body had stood still up at the sight of him before curiosity overpowered her once more - it danced in her eyes, an enticing performance that had him only staring deeper. They continued to stare at each other, waiting for the other to stop first, but neither could.
He had been so distracted at seeing the girl from the lake once more he had failed to realise the betrothal presentations were ongoing, and it seemed now the whole crowds attention had turned towards him - "We have a renowned guest here tonight," spoke Calanthe succeeding in snapping both Andromeda and Geralt from their stupors, "perhaps he can declare which esteemed Lord is telling the truth."
The silence carried as Geralt collected himself, he spoke confidently knowing these Lords did not hold a flame to him and his Witcher brothers and therefore, their rants of monsters and beasts were always going to be lies, "neither."
Protests spilled from the mouths of the Lords, their anger at facing embarrassment coming out brash and uncontrolled, the change in volume causing Pavetta to shift in discomfort whilst Andromeda flinched - "Are you calling me a liar, old man?"
"The Butcher of Blaviken bleats utter nonsense."
Geralt's gaze races back to Andromeda at the sound of his disgraced title being spat in disgust, Andromeda's eyes had widened but not in fear - in surprise, this was the Butcher of Blaviken? Geralt of Rivia? The Witcher she had heard so many tails and trials of? Thus was her saviour? He did not seem like a butcher, not with the way he had treated her yesterday - surely if the humans saw the elves as monsters, a Witcher would too. Moment by moment, her interest in him seemed to grow - why would the hunter save the prey?
Geralt seemed satisfied in her change of expression before admonishing himself for even seeking a semblance of acceptance in her eyes, looking back towards the Lords to placate their anger before he would have to do something... unfavourable. "Perhaps the Lords encountered... rare subspecies of manticore." The solution seemed to placate both parties, and he only sighed in return before he caught Andromeda turn her face away in an effort to hide her soft-spoken giggles knowing he must have been lying - his heightened hearing gifted him the sounds of her laugh, and his mood brightened by the second.
A voice spoke aloud from the crowd of Lords and Ladies, Knights and Soldiers, "perhaps our esteemed guest would like to entertain us with how he slayed the elves at the edge of the world?"
Pavetta felt how Andromeda stiffened behind her, readjusting her grip to instead provide her younger sister with comfort now instead whilst Calanthe's face straightened with strain - although the guests may have taken that as a sign for her everlasting hate for elves. Geralt had not failed to notice Andromeda's stiffness either, and spoke in a monotone voice, "there was no slaying," and that was the truth and hopefully enough for the girl to notice he truly meant no harm, he turned his body in her direction as he answered but looked the Lord who had dared to ask such a question deep into his eyes, hoping to play off his annoyance as amusement, "I had my arse kicked by a ragged ban of elves."
Whilst most groaned in dismay, Pavetta and Andromeda acted to conceal soft laughter as Eist and Calanthe watched over them in amusement.
"I was about to have my throat cut when Filavandrel let me go."
The crowd began to jeer as Geralt explained the true events which had unfolded during his conquest, despite what the songs Jaskier had spread insinuated - the conversation had ended with Calanthe offering him a seat at the table, a chair that was right beside Andromeda's, as she left to go change. An unbeknownst thank you for him defending the honour of elves before those around him and unknowingly making her daughter feel much safer in a world where humans were too scared to accept her. This tale was only another reminder to Andromeda as to why she remained hidden, but also as to why she craved true freedom.
As Geralt made his way to the table he had not taken his gaze off of her once, and it was only at the nudge of her sister's shoulder against her forearm that she found herself sitting in sync with him. His broad shoulders making it so their arms brushed together with every breath they took, and what he would do to have the skin of her bare shoulders brush against his own - but instead he was trapped in a silken monkey-suit Jaskier had forced him into. But after finding himself so close to the girl from the lake once more, he could not find it in himself to stay disappointed too long.
Geralt glanced down, taking in the sight of her bare legs, remembering how they had felt held against his own bare skin. He had stopped breathing for a second before forcing himself to look away and recollect himself. She was a true beauty.
Andromeda turned towards him before he could build the courage to face her properly, Pavetta being distracted by Mousesack as she trailed off for a moment whilst she waited for her mother. Andromeda's voice was light and teasing, "Geralt of Rivia?" It was very apparent that she already knew who he was, but she failed to hide her fascination behind those words. Instead of answering with a nod, Geralt asked in turn, "does this mean I get to know who you are?"
He leaned closer towards her, enjoying the sight of her bare throat and the scent of lavender which fell off of her in enticing cascades - one glance towards the Bard and he could already see his suspicions growing, but Geralt could not find it in himself to care, he found her again. The slow ache in his chest that he had failed to notice before was satiated once more. The closer he got, the faster her heart began to race, and he revelled in the reaction, despite knowing his own was doing the same. Rather than lean back and give into the shyness that had overtaken her, she sat taller and tilted her head up to look him in the eyes and Geralt could see despite the veil that she was smiling as her eyes twinkled with mischief and the corners of her eyes creased in amusement.
A silent giggle left her parted lips as she took in the sight of him, a holy feeling of glee filling her as she realised that he was here making yesterday's events so much more real. The poor Witcher thought he was subtle, decades of training having him skilled in deception and the art of a poker face, but she saw how his skin - usually pale and blanched - tinted into a subtle rosy shade under her gaze, how his eyes that were the colour of darkness yesterday were now a fiery gold with blown out pupils and shallowed huffed breaths which made the strands of hair that escaped his ribbon dance in a flurry across his face. She was feeling brave next to him, braver than she had felt in a long time so with a glance in her sister's and Mousesack's direction - satisfied they were distracted in their own words to pay attention to her actions - she slipped her hand across his forearm pulling it under the banquet table so she could freely tangle her fingers with his, resting their hands hesitantly on her bare leg.
She felt the callouses more intimately now, how his scarred and worn hand brushed against her own palm that was softer and tender in comparison. His hands were by far larger than her own, despite her slender fingers, his digits were thicker, and his palm was wider, a strange feeling swamped through her at the sudden awareness. She felt him stiffen as surprised but she used his hand to pull him down further so she could speak directly into his ear - "Andromeda." The breathy whisper sent shivers down Geralt's spine, feeling compelled to continue staring at her despite the fact she had turned away from him and although she had let go of his hand he realised she had not pushed it out of her lap either - Geralt pushed himself out of his stunned daze feeling his anticipation become placated as he finally knew. Andromeda. It was beautiful and sovereign, a name made for a person so valiant yet naive - inexperienced in the world that exists today. Andromeda.
The feeling of appeasement which engulfed his being was enough to push him to brazenly leave his hand in her lap and resting against her skin, even as she glanced in his direction with surprised amusement - he simply pretended to not notice, even when she tentatively held two of his fingers in her hands.
The pair were oblivious, however, to the wandering eyes of Eist upon them having witnessed their interaction as a strange sense of protectiveness overtook him, wanting to protect the young girl from a beast such as the Witcher - knowing the value she held towards the Lioness he pined for. But he held back, if only for the sake of maintaining some modicum, it would not do to anger the Queen and ruin this alliance when they were so close.
***
When Calanthe had returned, adorned in a beautiful gown of her own, the festivities continued as the events of the proposals proceeded as expected. Geralt and her mother had conversed, Andromeda and Calanthe had spoken in hushed whispers and even Eist had joined to speak to them at one point, but none were wiser to the entwined fingers which laid beneath the table as Andromeda took to leaning on Geralt as a source of comfort as questioning stares in her direction, as to who she was, became stronger. It was not until moments later havoc endured.
A Knight came crashing through, falling into the centre of the room with the members of the banquet surrounding him, despite his helmet being secured around his face Andromeda knew all those around him could feel the waves of sheepishness roiling off of him in waves - herself included. The man spoke, "Forgive my late intrusion, Your Majesty, and for the misunderstanding with your guards." As though they were summoned once more, the guards began to walk menacingly in his direction, but he only raised his arms and pleaded, "please! I come in peace. I need but one moment of your time. I am Lord Urcheon of Erlenwald," Andromeda noticed how Pavetta stood up straighter at the title as though she knew this man, "and I have come to claim your daughter's hand in marriage."
Pavetta seemed elated at the thought, eyes filled with adoration and trust, however Calanthe's suspicions grew.
"A Knight... of no renown... from a backwater hamlet," her voice leaks distrust with every word, "who dares enter my Court without revealing his face?" She was right, surely the Knight had not expected to be accepted with opens arms without the Court seeing his true nature - perhaps he was an elf like her, Andromeda thought eagerly, but then sank with discomfort when she realised he may have to be executed on sight. Perhaps he was mutilated then? From his journey as a Knight, his face too grotesque for anyone to see - a dark part of her had hoped so, because if a man so disfigured could vie for her sister and win her heart maybe she could succeed in the same task one day herself - as the thought ran through her mind she found herself glancing towards Geralt, only to find him already watching her. The two looked away in a sudden bout of shyness.
The Knight continued, "I apologise, Your Majesty. A knight's oath prevents me from revealing my face," Andromeda's heart sank at the statement, "until the sounding of the twelfth bell."
It seemed one of Pavetta's potential suitors disagreed with the notion, marching forward with expletive words and knocking the helmet off his head to reveal a man- no a beast. That was what he was, right? Different looking to humans, so he had to be no matter whether his heart was pure. Gasps of horror rippled through the crowd as they took in the sickly sight, a greying creature, with a pointed nose and beady eyes, prickles where hair should be and a snarl of fear where there was a smile.
"Witcher..." Calanthe spoke, causing Geralt to twist his hand so he could grasp her own tightly, "Kill it."
"No." Andromeda's shoulders fell in relief, her gaze falling to Pavetta as she did the same, but Calanathe paid no mind to his disagreeance urging the Witcher onwards - "I order you. This Knight has been cursed. Slay this beast!"
Geralt makes no move towards the 'beast', instead a soldier turns towards him and attacks only to be thrown back by the creature itself, as he turns towards the Queen and kneels in plea, "Lioness of Cintra, I had come to claim what is rightfully mine! Pavetta." Gasps rippled through the crowd, Andromeda's eyes meeting Pavetta's own surprised to see where there should have been fear or distrust there was joy instead, "By the Law of Surprise."
Upon those words the other suitors pulled out their swords alongside the guards, as they watched them circle the beast Geralt gave her hand a final squeeze before leaping from his seat to defend cursed man, the action causing Andromeda's heart to swell. "The Law of Surprise has been called."
Calanthe ordered for them both to be killed causing a soft cry to leave Andromeda's throat, the sound grasping Geralt's attention and intensifying his determination to survive, but before anyone could make a move it was Pavetta who moved next, grabbing a sword as she made her way to the cursed man's side. "You kill them... you kill me."
Andromeda stood at those words, shock colouring her face. Pavetta knows this man, she perhaps had for a long time.
Mousesack spoke next, "My Queen..." but it seemed Calanathe had already made up her mind, "stop! Stop!" She would not stand by and watch her child die, not if she could help it. The men stood down, and Pavetta turned towards the Knght, "Duny!" She cried as she reached into his embrace, the familiarity in the action causing murmurs to race across the Court. "I told you to stay away," she continued, only to have Duny turn towards Calanthe instead hoping to placate her and win her over - "Your Majesty, I was cursed as a boy. My whole life a living misery until the day that I saved your husband, King Roegnder, from certain death." The statement had caused Calanthe to blanch, and the court to become silent in anticipation.
"By tradition, I chose the Law of Surprise as payment. Whatever windfall he came home to find would be mine."
"Bastard," she exclaimed in retort, "better you had let him die!"
Geralt followed, "you knew he'd come, and you pushed me to kill him.'
Calanthe had turned towards Pavetta instead, "and you... carousing with the beast that swindled your stupid father."
Andromeda could see how the statement had hurt her sister and turned away from the scene as though trying to hide from the turmoil, Geralt and Eist watched her in concern. The argument grew louder, the words became harsher, and eventually Pavetta grew angrier - the wind started howling as gusts upon gusts of wind circled her and her beloved, causing chaos around her. The Court gasped as Mousesack remarked, "do you believe in destiny now?" Although she was not sure who he was referring to.
When Pavetta had felt she had expressed her anger enough, she stopped her screams of anguish, and the winds began to settle - "I thought your grandmother's gift had skipped you, as it did me. It seems I was wrong." At Calanthe's words, Pavetta spoke, "About so many things," and it seemed Calanthe had enough semblance to seem slightly admonished.
Calanthe proclaimed once more, "destiny has spoken! The Law of Surprise will be honoured. Pavetta will marry Lord Urcheon." As murmurs began to spread, her admirer made his words heard, "react poorly, and you will not just face the Lioness, you will be facing the sea hounds of Skellige. Because Queen Calanthe has agreed to my proposal of marriage." Eist seemed proud of his solution, and looking towards Pavetta's relieved face and accepting Andromeda's nod of encouragement, he knew he had done right by the Queen, "there will be two vows here tonight! I assume that's agreeable."
Although slightly miffed at the proposal sprung upon her, she agreed - "delightful."
Andromeda watched in delight as her sister married the man she loved, a man who was cursed and did not look like the other humans, but she saw the beauty in him anyway. The sight brought tears to her eyes, and she found herself looking towards the Witcher without realising, only to see his eyes focused on her already. Again - maybe he was thinking the same?
As the pair sealed their bond with a kiss, Duny fell to the floor in a series of grunts. Then, before the twelfth bell had even rung, he was returned to his human-like state. Her hope began to fizzle out as she avoided Geralt's intense stare. Perhaps she was wrong after all.
The curse was lifted, so she focused on rejoicing with her family, grateful to see them so happy. Her mother and, newly wedded, brother-in-law turned towards Geralt, both of them expressing their gratitude as if it was not for his intervention Pavetta may have taken her own life and Calanthe could not have lived with such guilt.
"I want nothing."
"No, please." Calanathe followed Duny's plea, "Please, Geralt of Rivia, do not feel life you're doing us a service."
"She is right, I cannot start a new life in the shadow of a life debt."
"Fine. I..." he could not claim the same law twice, with Duny it would be less likely he would have to accept such a fate but with the Law of Surprise if he was to ask the Queen of such a thing he could be left with an unfortunate fate. His mind raced for another promise to ask, to placate their need to return a debt - something he could avoid if needed, something which would possibly not exist anytime soon. He then remembered the Law of Treasure. Calanthe only had one daughter - Pavetta, and she was already bound to another man, Calanthe was to wed Eist the same night, so that was a loophole he could not get trapped in either. The law gave claim to an individual to take something the person in debt holds most precious to their hearts and with her daughter bound to another, her last husband dead and Eist already bound to her he knew there was no way for anything to bind itself to him if destiny were even real. It was the safe choice. So he continued, "claim te tradition as you have Duny, the Law of Surprise. Give me that which you already have but do not know." He did not wait for the murmurs to set in and instead turned towards Calanthe.
"From you, I claim the Law of Treasure. I lay claim over what is most precious to your heart that remains free and unbound"
Andromeda's heart sank at those words. She knew how this Law worked, and she knew with Pavetta bound to another, and Eist bound to her mother, the law would lay its claim on her. Because a law as ancient as this, as complex and sentient, did not distinguish by blood. Destiny was much more conniving than it let on.
Before Geralt could go on Calanathe let out a sharp "no!" But it was too late, his words lay into effect, she could feel it bubbling under her skin as a familiar heat set in once more except this time it felt much more like a brand than a feeling sensation. Her mind flashed back to when his blood contaminated her own, and her blood did the same to his. Not only was this a verbal vow, spoken aloud in front of the Court of Cintra, unbeknownst to the Witcher he had just laid stake to a blood bond. As Geralt looked towards her, she felt the colour drain from her face. Her eyes became cloudy as she was lost in her panicked thoughts.
"What have you done, Witcher?"
"Fear not, You Majesty, if I am seen in your kingdom again, it'll be to kill a real monster, not to lay claim to a crop or a new pup. Not to take someone precious from you either. Destiny can go fu-"
Geralt felt his heart stop for a moment, his blood boiling as he tore his gaze from a heaving Pavetta to a pale Andromeda, his blood boiling as their eyes connected and the sensation burned and settled into his bones, Calanthe spoke again, "Pavetta? Are you... oh..."
Silence ringed throughout the Court, "fuck."
Geralt had left only moments after, trying to escape a destiny that is chasing after him. He could not look at Andromeda, not after knowing he had laid claim to two other beings despite yearning to be in her presence the whole day, it felt like a sour betrayal and he could not face the anguish she was clearly feeling when he had laid his claims.
Andromeda's heart sank as she watched Geralt ride away, not knowing he had tied her to him for eternity. She felt a hand tap her lightly on her shoulder, turning back to find Eist instead of her mother. "She is consoling Pavetta, she wanted to see you but I thought it would be best to give you your space first." She nodded hesitantly. It was true. Physical touch was hard for her to process, let alone accept and talking things out had always been hard for her, so she was glad for the space.
Eist cleared his throat lightly, "I know what you are to her," she glanced up quickly at that statement, "I know who you are, and I would like for you to accept me as your father if that is alright with you." The request took her by surprise, sure Eist had been interested in Calanthe for a long time, but to ask this of her? She was not sure what to say, but she could see the sincerity in his gaze and thought of his intentions as pure, once again replying with a hesitant nod. He seemed satisfied with her answer, pressing a light kiss to her forehand before leaving the room, he called over his shoulder, "your mother will be with you soon Andromeda, try not to worry - the Witcher does not know who you are, and so he cannot take you against your will."
Surprisingly, Andromeda did not find herself happy with that prospect. Perhaps it was because she saw the Witcher as her key to freedom, bound to him and therefore bound to travel the wold under his protective guise so no harm shall come to her. She almost entertained the idea before realising that no one in their right minds would accept her, with her mutilated face. At least Duny escaped his curse. She was stuck with her reality. She turned back towards the window, her soul aching as she tried to find the Witcher's fading silhouette once more, only hoping he felt a similar pain such as her own.

Chapter One
Au Wa Wakare No Hajimare │ 合う 和 別れ の 始まり
"To meet is the beginning of parting."
WC: ~ 2.1k
The day was grim and rainy. She didn’t have an umbrella, but unlike most people, it didn’t bother her. Drenched in water, extreme heat, extreme cold, her body reacted to them all and they would feel uncomfortable on her skin. But nothing brought her mood down.
She quickly walked down the sidewalk on her multi-errand trip. Today she was acting as the messenger boy for her gang, the Yokohama Association of Black Market Distributors. Their name was stupidly long and formal, but as a low-ranking member, there was nothing she could do about it. To herself, she referred to it as the acronym YYRGK.
Today’s job brought a change of scenery from her normal routine which was working in the small office of their main warehouse. She walked with an air of confidence through the bad parts of town. Nobody knew she was a girl, she cut her hair short and wore loose clothing. Although she was only twelve and quite small, she had a way of defending herself that would never fail in these situations. And she could not feel fear.
She knocked on the side door of a warehouse coming up from an alleyway. There was a sign on the door written in kanji. She had no idea what it said, she was completely illiterate in that writing system. After another knock the door opened.
“Oleander? The gruff man asked. They had been expecting her.
She nodded, it was the boy’s name she had given herself. Then she stepped inside the dingy hallway.
The gruff man escorted her to the offices on the second floor. This was the operations center for a smuggling group YYRGK was planning on partnering with. The letter in her pleather briefcase contained the offer. The last couple of years had been hard for them and now they did not have the men to run their own supply lines, and defend their territory, and expanding business was almost out of the question. But this group here had a legitimate business front, unlike YYRGK. Partnering with them would lead to expansion opportunities in the future. At least, that is what her boss, Masato, said.
Oleander handed the letter to this boss with a slight bow and then stood as tall as her small frame would allow. He read over the letter once and then said “you will hear back from me by the end of this week.” She was dismissed.
She went back out into the rain, turning her hood up to cover herself from the worsening downpour. When she was a child she liked to watch the rain from indoors. She didn’t truly like anything now, it was hard to really care and hold preferences without emotions, but she would still sometimes do things she used to enjoy, just to keep busy.
Her next stop was the last one. Oleander saved it for last because it was the riskiest. She was to deliver a letter to the Port Mafia. They were the most powerful criminal organization in Yokohama. At one point in time, they had been one of the most powerful in all of Japan. But that changed some years ago as the organization had undergone some internal difficulties.
YYRGK had been frequently subcontracted by the Port in past years. In fact, doing business with them had been the reason why they were able to become as notable as they had been. But that was before she had been forced to join. A few years ago the Port Mafia’s former boss had become overly cruel and tyrannical. He started conflict after conflict and YYRGK did everything they could to stay out of unnecessary fighting in an attempt to not shed as much of their blood. That much Oleander was able to remember for she had been forced in a little over two years ago, amid all the criminal wars in Yokohama. They were so short-staffed, that even a ten-year-old was considered a good recruit (provided that the ten-year-old had valuable skills– which she did).
The five black skyscrapers ringing the middle of the city grew larger as she approached. Ominous things, sleek and modern in design and incredibly expensive. The headquarters represented their organization well. Oleander pushed past people on the crowded sidewalk. Half a year ago the tyrannical boss had died and a newer, younger boss took his place. “More calculating” were the words used by Masato. He hadn’t been mafia prior to his role as the leader of the biggest criminal organization in town, so YYRGK had wanted to wait to see how he would turn out. While the Port Mafia was nothing like it had been in the past, the new boss hadn’t been killed off, the organization had stopped the unnecessary wars, and they hadn’t crumbled or split into many factions.
The guards outside the buildings weren’t meant to look like actual guards and they were only there to stop large threats. If she wasn’t supposed to be here, she would be found out in the main lobby and killed or captured there, out of sight from the rest of the world.
Oleander walked through the front doors with ease, but stopped and looked around once she was in the lobby. From the black marble tile floors to the ornate moldings, the expansive room was a pinnacle example of wealth. And even though she had given up her emotions, the grandeur of it all was enough to pull at her brainstrings and make her stop and look around.
Towards the back of the lobby, near the elevators and large hallway going off into countless rooms, was a large mahogany reception desk.
“Oleander from Yokohama’s Association of Black Market Distributors here to deliver a letter of great importance to Mr. Takahashi,” she spoke and flashed the badge all members of YYRGK had.
The receptionist seemed startled at her deadpan voice. Most people who heard it were. Nobody expects a robotic, monotone voice to come out of a twelve-year-old, especially when the child in question does not look unhappy. She tried to maintain a pleasant neutral expression at all times.
“Oh, yes here,” the receptionist replied and checked the badge in the system to verify its validity. She also had to give her fingerprints despite not wanting this organization to have records of her. Then the receptionist gave the instructions to the office. Oleander was not meeting with the boss, nor any of the five executives, nor even a sub-executive. It was some man whose duty was to filter out work that otherwise would go to a higher-up but wasn’t as important.
His office was on the thirty-third floor. Other than the one time she flew in an airplane, Oleander had never been this high up before. When the black marble elevators parted, the first thing she noticed was the large windows on the opposite wall. She immediately went to look out of them and observe the city from this high vantage point.
Yokohama spread out before her; a sprawling city as far as the eye could see, she was facing the opposite direction of the ocean although a part of it could be seen when she turned her head. There were other skyscrapers around, some about the same level as she. But the Port Mafia’s black towers stood higher than any building in the city. She looked up and wondered what the view was from the roof.
“I’d probably be close enough to the storm clouds to control the electricity in them.” She spoke in a low voice to herself.
“That would depend on how far of a range your special ability has. These clouds aren’t as low as they seem,” came an oddly bleak boy’s voice.
Oleander wasn’t surprised as surprise was an emotion. But there was a certain shockedness to what was going through her mind at that moment. She hadn’t seen anyone else in the hall as she exited the elevators. She hadn’t seen anything other than the view. She turned.
Near the same wall as the elevators rested a couple of beige chairs. On one of them sat a boy only a little older than she. He was wearing his Sunday best: an expensive-looking combination of a white button-down, black pants, a black tie, black dress shoes, and an oversized black coat.
A Mafia member. She thought. Although she hadn’t met anyone near her age in this line of work, there were plenty of gangs that accepted children and teens as their members. Or sometimes they only used random “street urchins” for easy one-off tasks. But the Port Mafia didn’t let just any kid join, they wouldn’t have grown so successful if that was the case. This boy must be a special ability user, just like her. But stranger than it was to meet someone else her age here was the fact that the boy’s right eye was covered by a white bandage that wrapped around his face, disappearing underneath his mop of dark brown hair. On the opposite cheek was another small bandage and more bandages peaked out from underneath his collar and cuffs.
“Hello,” she said politely. Manners were important in situations such as this.
“Who are you here for?” he asked. His voice was how Oleander imagined a dead person would speak if reanimated.
She gave the name.
The boy pointed to his left. “First door on the right.”
She approached his spot to see down the hallway. There was only one door.
“Do you work for him?” she asked. This might be a good chance at a business connection if YYRGK was going to be dealing with this Takahashi man for the time being.
The boy didn’t speak at first. He just kept looking at her with his one uncovered eye. His expression was mostly blank but his dark eye held a bit of contempt and envy in it. The girl stared back with an entirely emotionless face.
“No. I don’t work for anyone in the Port Mafia. I’m not a mafioso.”
“Oh," was all she said, not expecting that answer.
She was about to turn to walk to the office, but nothing about this boy was adding up. Why was he here in the Mafia’s headquarters if he wasn’t a member? Why did everything about him look so dead? Why was he wrapped in bandages like a mummy?
“Are you okay?” Oleander asked. She pointed to her right eye, suggesting that was the wound about which she was inquiring.
A look of shock passed in the boy’s eye and then went away. “Not in the slightest. But nothing is out of the ordinary for me if that’s what you meant.”
Even though she did not have emotions anymore, she knew that others being hurt or in trouble was not a good thing. “Will you be out here after I’m done with my meeting?”
The boy looked at her quizzically. “Maybe, if you’re not there long.”
She nodded and went on her way. The meeting wasn’t short, but quicker than she had expected. She had thought she would need to speak for YYRGK more and answer all sorts of questions. But everything was accepted. Not even thirty minutes later she was back out into the hallway with a new form that officialized YYRGK as a subcontractor with the Port Mafia. They were to start off using their warehouses, now abandoned after all the slow business, to store the Mafia’s contraband goods. There were a lot of other things in the form explaining details. She would have to read it to understand it all. The man had talked too fast for her to catch everything.
The beige chair was empty. Oleander glanced around as she approached the elevators. There was no one in sight. It didn’t make sense. She hadn’t been gone for half an hour. Wherever the strange boy had gone, she wished him well.
The elevator doors opened on the ground floor to a bustling lobby, unlike the way it had been when she came up. She walked slowly and deliberately having learned that people did not pay attention to you if you made yourself look as if you belonged. It was a technique she called "hiding in plain sight".
It wasn’t raining outside anymore. After walking a couple of blocks, Oleander pulled out her briefcase and read over the form to familiarize herself with it. She would have to explain it to the boss upon return. Fortunately, it was typed in hiragana with bits of katakana in it. She could read this well.
There was only one part of the form that mentioned something she didn’t remember being discussed at all in the meeting. It was tacked on at the end, like an afterthought or a piece of new information. The small clause had to do with making sure that in no way was YYRGK to be associated with any of the Port Mafia’s current enemy groups.
Of course, it’s a new addition; they probably just now refigured out who their enemies are after all those battles stopped. One group in particular stood out. “The Sheep”.
She had heard of them. The Sheep was an entire group consisting of children and teenagers. Almost like a vigilante organization, working outside the law, not with it, but wanting to help people. They tried to protect people against gangs, looting, and human trafficking. She had wanted to join them, if only temporarily. Surely there were special ability users in the group and she could train with them and learn to control her own?
Oleander stuffed the papers back into the briefcase again. Sprinkles of raindrops were falling from the sky once more. She began walking back to her headquarters again, the tiniest bit of an emotion seeping out of her before she squashed it back down. A desire.
If The Sheep rescued people who had been human trafficked, couldn’t they save her?

The health implications of mold can be severe. Exposure to mold can cause symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and eye irritation. How to Identify Foundation Issues in Basements and Crawl Spaces
Basements and crawl spaces are often the first areas where foundation problems become noticeable. Detecting these issues early can save homeowners from costly foundation repair and protect the integrity of the entire home. Understanding the signs of trouble in these spaces allows for timely action. Here’s how you can recognize potential foundation problems in your basement or crawl space.
1. Cracks in Basement Walls and Floors
Cracks in the walls or floors of your basement are common signs of foundation damage. While small, hairline cracks may result from natural settling, larger horizontal cracks often indicate pressure against the foundation walls. These larger cracks may signal serious structural issues that require professional foundation repair services. Be mindful of widening cracks or those that allow water to seep into the basement, as they often point to more severe problems.
2. Bowing or Bulging Walls in Crawl Spaces
In crawl spaces, walls that bow or bulge are a clear indicator of foundation stress. This often happens when soil pressure builds up against the exterior of the foundation, causing the walls to push inward. If left unaddressed, this issue can worsen, leading to the need for more extensive foundation repair. It’s crucial to consult a professional to assess the extent of the problem and find an effective solution.
3. Moisture and Water Damage
Excess moisture or standing water in basements and crawl spaces is a common sign of foundation issues. Water can enter through cracks or poorly sealed areas, leading to mold, mildew, and wood rot. These conditions not only weaken the foundation but can also affect indoor air quality. Before seeking foundation repair services, it’s important to address moisture problems with proper drainage and sealing to prevent recurring damage.
4. Uneven or Sagging Floors Above the Crawl Space
Uneven or sagging floors above a crawl space can indicate foundation issues. This problem typically occurs when the supports in the crawl space shift or settle unevenly, causing the floor above to become unstable. A professional assessment might reveal the need for slab foundation repair or reinforcement of support beams to correct the issue.
5. Musty Odors or Mold Growth
A musty smell or visible mold in your basement or crawl space is often a sign of excess moisture due to foundation problems. When water enters through cracks or poorly sealed areas, it creates an environment where mold can thrive. Addressing this issue with timely foundation repair can prevent further damage and improve the overall air quality in your home.
The Importance of Timely Foundation Repair
Addressing foundation problems in basements and crawl spaces early is crucial for maintaining your home’s stability and value. Delaying repairs can lead to more extensive damage, such as structural instability and higher repair costs. Consulting a foundation repair company at the first sign of trouble ensures that the issues are resolved before they escalate, keeping your home safe and secure.
Conclusion:
If you notice any of these warning signs in your basement or crawl space, it’s important to schedule a professional inspection. A trusted foundation repair company can identify the root cause of the issues and recommend the best solutions to keep your home stable and protected. Taking action early can prevent small problems from turning into major concerns, ensuring peace of mind for you and your family.

GREG GUTFELD: Tim Walz makes Kamala Harris sound like Winston Churchill
New Post has been published on https://sa7ab.info/2024/08/12/greg-gutfeld-tim-walz-makes-kamala-harris-sound-like-winston-churchill/
GREG GUTFELD: Tim Walz makes Kamala Harris sound like Winston Churchill
So, within hours after Kamala Harris made Tim Walz the VP pick, the bat signal went out from the Dems to label him as a moderate, middle-of-the-road midwesterner. The reason? To cover up the fact that this guy is bat s—- crazy. Let’s run through the list. While BLM and Antifa were looting and burning down Minneapolis in the summer of 2020, what did Walz do? Well, he did call out the National Guard, eventually. When seconds count, Tim Walz acts within days. Three days, in fact. So how the hell did he alert them? Did he send an e-vite to their AOL account? Was he waiting for an RSVP? Let’s ask the doofus.TIM WALZ: Decisions were made in a situation that is what it is. And, I simply believe that we tried to do the best we can in each of those. That made no f—— sense. No wonder Harris picked him. He makes her sound like Winston Churchill. And you know, it’s the reason why I hang around Kilmeade. So, he actually called the riots an exciting event which destigmatized criminal activity and put the rights of criminals over their prey. He abandoned every victim, be they Black, White, Asian or old, because they could not be stereotyped into a group with magical protections. So, they had no power. And so he tossed aside lawful citizens to gain favor of the lawless mob. FIVE CONTROVERSIES SURROUNDING VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE TIM WALZ, FROM DUI TO COVID FRAUDHe was a coward, but also a snitch. At the height of the pandemic, he set up a Covid hotline where people could fink on their neighbors for not wearing masks outdoors. Outdoors! Walz also limited indoor gatherings to ten people. He declared a statewide mask mandate and shut down restaurants, gyms and other businesses. So, when there’s looting and rioting, he’s hands-off, but if there’s a virus that’s benign to just about everyone except old people, he invades your life, turns it upside down, turns people against each other and takes away their livelihoods, which is exactly the opposite of how he portrays himself now.TIM WALZ: In Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and their personal choices that they make. Even if we wouldn’t make the same choice for ourselves. There’s a golden rule: mind your own damn business. You know, people would love to mind their own damn business, if you a–hole hadn’t let rioters burn down those businesses. No more swearing. Even worse, Walz sent elderly Covid patients from hospitals back into nursing homes where he likely killed more old people than tainted pudding at a Matlock convention. So, while the rest of us had to stay away from our grandparents, or we were called murderers, Walz gave those grandparents a death sentence. He gets worse. He doubled down last year on letting docs give drugs and operate on kids confused about their gender. Signing a bill making Minnesota a sanctuary state for kids brainwashed into thinking they need a sex change. So, if you live in a sane state that has banned this butchery, your child could go to Minnesota to ruin his life. And legally, you can’t do s— about it. Remember the song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”? Well, there’s a new version, and it’s, “I Left My Kids —– in Saint Paul.”KAMALA HARRIS’ RUNNING MATE TIM WALZ IS NOT ‘NORMAL,’ CNN CONTRIBUTOR SAYSOnly nut jobs want kids to get nut jobs. Yeah, the state can even take custody of your child. And they call this guy middle of the road? What road are you talking about? The one between Sodom and Gomorrah? Walz will let doctors cut your kid’s —– off while looters burn down your house. He’s like a fat, bald, stupid Genghis Khan. Well, at least he doesn’t think boys menstruate. Oh, wait. He signed a bill to put tampons in boys’ bathrooms. That makes less sense than starting a fan club for Jesse Watters. Then there’s his military service. Two fellow National Guardsmen have accused him of embellishing his military career and retiring from service after learning his battalion would be deployed to Iraq in 2005. I guess he prefers his war zones to be in Minnesota. So, the Republicans are calling this ticket the most left wing ever. How do you know that’s true? Well, look at how obsessed the left is in portraying him as the opposite. Oh, he’s not radical, he’s rural. He’s not Marxist, he’s Midwestern. Which then poses the next question. Why are the positions that the left usually embrace they now abandon as they approach an election? Suddenly, being woke is as appealing as monkeypox. Social justice sanctuary cities, left-wing protests, they all take a back seat to the comfortable sweater of moderation. Eldridge Cleaver becomes Ward Cleaver. And that’s the funniest thing of all. The people who spent the last four years hating everything about old White guys now embrace the very things they despise. Oh, look, he hunts. He owns a gun! He’s a military vet! Well, just months ago, these were the things that would put him on a no-fly list. He’s got to be a member of a White supremacist group, right? Reeking of toxic masculinity and dead moose. But now we just call him coach. And if the left has its way, the next Vice President of the United States.

Mouldgone - Discovering 6 Causes of Mouldy Ceilings & Walls
Mould growth is both unappealing to homes and dangerous to residents' health. Due to this, immediately resolving the underlying causes of mould is essential to preserving a healthy and aesthetic indoor environment.
Explore the common causes of mouldy walls and ceilings and discover workable remedies for repair and prevention.
6 Causes of Mouldy Ceilings and Walls
1. High Humidity Levels
High humidity levels are the primary culprits behind mould growth on ceilings and walls. Moisture in the air provides an ideal breeding ground for mould spores to thrive and multiply. Areas with poor ventilation, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and basements, are particularly susceptible to moisture buildup, leading to mould formation. Ensure adequate ventilation in these areas by using exhaust fans, opening windows when possible, and using dehumidifiers to reduce indoor humidity levels.
2. Water Leaks and Intrusions
Water leaks from windows, roofs, or plumbing fixtures can cause walls and ceilings to become wet, making room for mould formation. If neglected, even little leaks might eventually result in a heavy moisture buildup. Regularly check your house for indications of water damage, such as discoloured areas, peeling paint, or musty smells. If you find any leaks, fix them immediately to stop mould growth. Additionally, ensure that areas around windows and doors—which are vulnerable to water intrusion—are properly waterproofed.
3. Condensation
Mouldy ceilings and walls can also happen due to condensation. Condensation occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with cooler surfaces, leading to water vapour condensing into liquid form. This phenomenon commonly occurs on poorly insulated ceilings and walls, especially in colder climates or during the winter months. Over time, persistent condensation can foster mould growth and compromise indoor air quality. To mitigate condensation-related mould problems, improve insulation levels, enhance air circulation, and maintain consistent indoor temperatures to minimise moisture buildup on surfaces.
ALSO READ: How to tell if I have mould?
4. Poor Ventilation
Inadequate ventilation worsens indoor moisture and encourages mould growth on walls and ceilings. Without adequate ventilation, damp air gets trapped within, raising humidity levels and fostering mould growth. Installing exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens, adding trickle vents to windows, and utilising passive ventilation techniques can all help ensure your home is well-aired. Furthermore, cleaning ventilation ducts and filters regularly will help to keep airflow optimal and prevent blockages.
5. Building Materials Susceptible to Moisture Damage
Certain building materials are more prone to moisture damage and mould growth than others. Porous materials such as drywall, wood, and wallpaper provide organic surfaces where mould spores can take hold and proliferate. Additionally, improperly installed or maintained building materials may aggravate moisture problems, accelerating mould growth on ceilings and walls. Consider using moisture-resistant materials in moisture-prone areas of your home to minimise the risk of mould infestation.
6. Lifestyle Factors
Lifestyle habits and daily activities can also influence the prevalence of mould in residential environments. Activities such as cooking, showering, and drying clothes indoors generate excess moisture, contributing to elevated humidity levels and mould growth. Practising moisture management habits, including using lids while cooking, venting clothes dryers to the outdoors, and wiping down wet surfaces promptly, can help mitigate moisture buildup and prevent mould from growing on ceilings and walls.
Conclusion
Mouldy ceilings and walls are frequently signs of hidden moisture issues in a house. Homeowners can successfully prevent and treat mould infestations by addressing typical drivers of mould growth, including high humidity levels, water leaks, condensation, inadequate ventilation, vulnerable building materials, and lifestyle factors. It is feasible to preserve a healthy indoor environment free from the adverse effects of mould by proactive management, careful examination, and timely corrective action. Visit Mouldgone to reclaim your home from the grip of mould.

Effective Strategies for Preventing Water Leaks in Spokane Valley Properties
Water leaks can wreak havoc on properties, leading to extensive damage and costly repairs. In Spokane Wa, where weather conditions can fluctuate and plumbing systems may be aging, it's crucial for property owners to implement effective strategies to prevent water leaks and minimize the risk of water damage. By being proactive and taking preventive measures, individuals can safeguard their properties and avoid the need for emergency water damage repair services.
Water Leak Restoration: A Preventive Approach
One of the most effective strategies for preventing water leaks is regular maintenance of plumbing systems. Periodic inspections of pipes, faucets, and fixtures can help identify any signs of wear and tear, corrosion, or leaks before they escalate into major issues. Property owners in Spokane Valley should consider scheduling annual or bi-annual plumbing inspections with qualified professionals to detect and address any potential problems promptly.
Additionally, installing leak detection devices can provide an extra layer of protection against water damage. These devices are designed to alert property owners to any abnormal water flow or moisture levels, allowing for early intervention and mitigation of leaks. From simple drip sensors to advanced smart leak detectors, there are various options available to suit different preferences and budgets.
Water Damage Restoration Spokane WA: Exterior Maintenance
In Spokane WA, where heavy rainfall and snowmelt are common, maintaining the exterior of properties is crucial for preventing water intrusion. Regularly inspecting roofs, gutters, and downspouts for debris buildup, damage, or signs of deterioration can help ensure proper drainage and minimize the risk of leaks. Clearing gutters and downspouts of leaves, twigs, and other debris can prevent water from backing up and seeping into the building envelope.
Furthermore, ensuring that exterior walls, windows, and doors are properly sealed can help prevent water penetration during inclement weather. Applying weatherproofing sealants around openings and repairing any cracks or gaps in the building envelope can help keep moisture out and protect against water damage.
Emergency Water Damage Repair: Indoor Strategies
Indoor water leaks can stem from various sources, including burst pipes, faulty appliances, and plumbing fixtures. To prevent such incidents, property owners should take proactive measures to maintain and monitor their indoor plumbing systems. This includes checking for leaks under sinks, around toilets, and behind appliances on a regular basis, as well as promptly addressing any issues that arise.
Installing water-saving devices, such as low-flow faucets and toilets, can not only help conserve water but also reduce the risk of leaks and water damage. These devices are designed to minimize water usage without sacrificing performance, thereby decreasing the likelihood of plumbing failures and associated repairs.
Conclusion
Preventing water leaks in Spokane Valley properties requires a proactive approach that encompasses regular maintenance, exterior upkeep, and indoor strategies. By implementing effective preventive measures and staying vigilant, property owners can minimize the risk of water damage and avoid the need for emergency water damage repair services. From routine inspections to the installation of leak detection devices, investing in preventive measures can ultimately save time, money, and stress in the long run.

Understanding the Role of Your Roof in Home Protection
Your roof is much more than just a covering for your home; it serves as the first line of defense against various external elements. From shielding your home from rain, wind, and snow to protecting it from harsh sunlight and extreme temperatures, your roof plays a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and safety of your living space. A well-maintained roofing system prevents water from seeping into your home, which can cause structural damage and lead to mold growth. Moreover, it helps regulate indoor temperatures, contributing to energy efficiency and reducing heating and cooling costs. Understanding the vital role that your roof plays in home protection will encourage you to prioritize its maintenance and address any issues promptly with the assistance of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors.
The Importance of a Strong and Reliable Roofing System
A strong and reliable roofing system is essential for the long-term protection of your home. It not only shields your home from weather-related elements but also enhances its structural integrity and overall value. A well-maintained roof can withstand the challenges of time, providing peace of mind for homeowners in Los Angeles, CA. A reliable roofing system also ensures that your home's interior remains dry and comfortable, protecting your belongings and family members from potential water damage and health risks associated with mold and mildew growth. By investing in a strong and dependable roofing system and seeking the expertise of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors, you can rest assured that your home is well-protected, one shingle at a time.
How Your Roof Safeguards Your Home from the Elements
Your roof acts as a barrier that protects your home from various elements, shielding it from rain, snow, wind, and harmful UV rays. During heavy rain or snowfall, your roof prevents water from entering your home, ensuring that your interior remains dry and free from water damage. In windy conditions, a sturdy roofing system prevents shingles or tiles from being dislodged, maintaining the roof's integrity. Additionally, your roof reflects sunlight and helps regulate indoor temperatures, contributing to energy efficiency and reducing the strain on your HVAC system. Understanding how your roof safeguards your home from the elements underscores its importance and emphasizes the need for regular maintenance and prompt repairs when issues arise.
Signs of Roof Damage and Vulnerabilities
Recognizing signs of roof damage and vulnerabilities is crucial for homeowners in Los Angeles, CA, to address potential issues before they worsen. Visible signs of roof damage include missing or damaged shingles, cracked tiles, and sagging areas. Water stains on ceilings or walls can indicate roof leaks, while granules from asphalt shingles in gutters may suggest shingle deterioration. Inside your home, dampness or musty odors in the attic can signal a roof leak. Vulnerabilities, such as aging roofing materials or poor installation, can make your roof more susceptible to damage. Being proactive in identifying these signs and vulnerabilities allows you to take timely action with the help of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors, preventing further damage and protecting your home.
Identifying Common Roofing Issues: Leaks, Cracks, and more
Common roofing issues, such as leaks, cracks, and missing shingles, can compromise the integrity of your roofing system and lead to interior water damage. Roof leaks are often caused by damaged flashing, worn-out sealants, or deteriorating roofing materials. Cracked tiles or shingles can result from prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions or poor installation. Missing shingles can leave your roof vulnerable to water infiltration and other elements. Identifying these common roofing issues early on allows you to address them promptly with the assistance of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors, and prevent further damage to your home.
Recognizing Warning Signs from Inside and Outside Your Home
Recognizing warning signs of roof damage from both inside and outside your home is essential for timely detection and intervention. From the inside, signs of roof damage may include water stains on ceilings or walls, peeling paint, or damp spots in the attic. Exterior warning signs can include missing or damaged shingles, curled or cracked tiles, and visible wear on roofing materials. Moss or algae growth on the roof's surface can also indicate moisture-related issues. Regularly inspecting both the interior and exterior of your home allows you to catch warning signs early and address them with the help of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors before they escalate into more significant problems.
Roof Inspection and Assessment
Regular roof inspections and assessments play a crucial role in maintaining a strong and reliable roofing system. By inspecting your roof regularly, you can identify and address potential issues early on, preventing costly repairs and extending the roof's lifespan. In this section, we will discuss the importance of roof inspections and the steps involved in assessing the condition of your roofing system. By understanding the significance of regular roof inspections, you can take proactive measures to protect your home and ensure its long-term well-being.
Importance of Regular Roof Inspections for Preventive Maintenance
Regular roof inspections are essential for preventive maintenance and ensuring that your roofing system remains in optimal condition. Professional inspections allow roofing contractors to identify small issues and vulnerabilities that may go unnoticed by homeowners. By addressing these issues early on, potential damage can be mitigated, and repairs can be carried out promptly, preventing more extensive and costly problems. Regular roof inspections contribute to the overall longevity and performance of your roofing system, providing you with the peace of mind that your home is well-protected.
What to Expect During a Professional Roof Inspection
During a professional roof inspection, experienced Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors will carefully assess the condition of your roofing system. They will examine the roof's surface for signs of damage, such as missing or damaged shingles, cracks, or worn-out sealants. Roofers will inspect the flashing and roofing materials around chimneys, vents, and skylights to ensure they are properly sealed and intact. Attic and interior inspections may also be conducted to check for water stains, mold growth, or other signs of roof leaks. Based on their findings, roofing contractors will provide recommendations for necessary repairs or maintenance, allowing you to take proactive steps in protecting your home.
Repairing vs. Replacing: Making the Best Decision
When faced with roofing issues, homeowners often wonder whether repairs will suffice or if a roof replacement is necessary. Making the best decision between repairing and replacing your roof depends on several factors, such as the extent of the damage, the age of the roof, and the overall condition of the roofing materials. In this section, we will guide you through the considerations to make an informed choice that ensures the long-term protection of your home and aligns with your budget and needs.
When Roof Repairs Are Sufficient and Cost-Effective
In many cases, roof repairs are sufficient to address minor issues and maintain the integrity of your roofing system. Repairs can include replacing damaged shingles, fixing leaks, and addressing isolated areas of damage. If the roof is relatively new and in good overall condition, repairs can effectively extend its lifespan and provide cost-effective solutions. Seeking the expertise of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors for a thorough inspection will help determine if repairs are sufficient to resolve the specific issues your roof is facing.
Understanding the Need for Roof Replacement
Roof replacement becomes necessary when the roofing system has reached the end of its lifespan or is severely damaged beyond repair. If your roof is older and has experienced extensive wear and tear, a replacement may be the most viable long-term solution. Roof replacement offers the opportunity to upgrade to more durable and energy-efficient materials, providing enhanced protection for your home. By understanding the need for roof replacement and working with Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors, you can ensure that your new roofing system meets your home protection needs and withstands the challenges of time and weather.
Conclusion
In conclusion, protecting your home starts with a strong and reliable roofing system. Understanding the critical role that your roof plays in safeguarding your home from the elements and potential damage emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and prompt repairs. Identifying signs of roof damage and vulnerabilities allows for timely intervention and ensures that your roofing system remains in optimal condition. Regular roof inspections and assessments are vital for preventive maintenance and can extend the lifespan of your roof. Making the right decision between roof repairs and replacement depends on various factors, and seeking the guidance of Los Angeles, CA roofing contractors will help you choose the best option for your home. By partnering with experienced professionals, you can protect your home, one shingle at a time, and ensure that your roofing system continues to provide reliable protection for years to come. Date night with Arcane characters
Cloudy/Rosey
Arcane x G/N reader
Characters: Jinx Vi Ekko Jayce
Jinx
As I said in past head cannons, I think Jinx has a soft spot for romantic gestures. And to the extent it bleeds over into your romantic date life. She'll set up fairy lights, actually cleaning up her lab so it actually looks like a romantic getaway and she'll have Silco buy some tasty sweets.
Along with that, she'll set up a reel for you two watch (I don't know if there are movies in the Arcane universe so I'm just going to call them Reels) and get what passes for popcorn in the undercity for you to throw at the screen.
And at the end of the night, barring if you two are engaging in other activities she'll present you with a single blue metal rose as a material sign of her affection. Please don't throw them away, just put them in a vase where she can easily see them in the morning.
Ta-da!!! I present the wonderful transmogrification from a perfectly functioning workspace to a romantic movie theater! Soooooo~ what'd you think toots~
Vi
Vi on the other hand never really saw the point in big Grand romantic gestures. She likes the little things, the more domestic side of your relationship. So a date night between the two of you will likely just be spending a night in, where she takes a day off from her duties and you from your job. You two can just spend the night basking each other's energy
Oftentimes it'll just be an excuse for you to lazily make out while cuddling. Either that or she'll go to a (very legal) fighting ring and have you cheer her on from the sidelines. It's sort of a ritual you two have, you playing the adoring fan and her the star fighter. Is it kink thing? The world may never know.
She likes it when you plan the dates, she just has no idea what to do for them but if you hint enough, she'll be a little bit more romantic. But don't expect rose petals and champagne, more on the side of teasing nips to your neck and not knowing where one body starts in the other ends
Why don't we just, you know, staying for the night. Just you and me, no one forces, no counsel, no nothing. How's that sound Cupcake?
Ekko
Ekko's date is quite literally a night under the stars. You two go riding on your hover blades, before resting on a rooftop in one of the better parts of Zaun. He prepared a small picnic, fruits and cheeses, all procured from Piltover. You two get to talk about everything and nothing and mostly it's just a break from the chaotic world that is your everyday lives as Firelights.
He'll deny it all day and every day, but he loves it when you get romantic with him. Just please hand feed him little finger foods and let your thumb linger on his bottom lip, he will combust. You'll just have to wait a few minutes for him to get himself back under control before he reciprocates.
If you ever have an indoor date, he'll take pleasure in massages. Giving and receiving, he just likes to touch your skin in the non-sexual sense ( but he won't be complaining if it gets a little bit heated)
I know it ain't much but it's all I could scrounge up fro- …. Oh heh, I'm glad you like it babe.
Jayce
Jayce has the mantra of go big or go home and he certainly isn't going to have a date with you at his parents' house. He’ll probably take you out for a date on the waterfront.
If you let him, he’d love to hand feed you or on the other hand rest his head on your lap. Date nights are fewer and far between, what with Jayce being the face of Hextech so you take what you can get. He’s always enjoyed the outdoors and that’ll be his go to spot for a date. If there’s ever an event you want to go to, you can bet he'll take time out of his schedule for you two to have some fun.
And that’s really what he wants your dates to be. Fun. In the ever-changing landscape of Piltover, a few moments of levity are all he could wish for. He’d love it if you planned the dates, he secretly (not so much) loves it when you take charge.
I know we haven’t been able to do this much, but I just want to.. I want to spend time with you
