send 🌿 for our muses to be caught under mistletoe . (indi)
"Hey, you dropped this" Ted picked up the piece of parchment he'd seen fall from the book Indi was holding and jogged to catch up with her. As always at Hogwarts the corridors had been fully decked out for Christmas. Ted was just glad this one wasn't one that took to snowing whenever it felt like it. Ted handed over the parchment when he reached her "There you go- didn't want you to lose it- thought it might be important." He had only just finished his sentence when the corridor decided to mock him and a branch of mistletoe appeared above the two of them. Ted blushed almost instantly, embarrassed by the situation. Indi was pretty, there was no doubt about it, but being caught until mistletoe with anyone was just awkward. "I-err- we should definitely just ignore that right" he laughed lightly.

Indi's response amused Ted a boyish smile on his face as he shifted to get more comfortable. He really had intended to read, but he didn't mind this distraction. Ted liked learning about new things, seeing different people's hobbies and interests. " 'suppose I've never thought about it like that before." He suddenly wondered if she would tell him off for picking little strands of grass out in the field by his house. Probably best not to mention it.
"It's fine" Ted reassured her, though he was a little gutted it had been so obvious that he had no idea what she was talking about. He listened intently as she taught him about the mallowsweet. A smile of his face the entire time. He found what she was saying truly interesting. Astronomy wasn't something he knew a lot about either, but he liked the idea of it. He believed in fate, in destiny, all those romantic ideals. Even after all these years the wizarding world still felt like something out of a fairytale sometimes. "So it's kinda like the key to the future then?" the question was mostly spoke to himself. "Do you think the centaurs would venture this far out?" Ted thought it seemed unlikely they would come this far out of the forest "have you ever seen one, that'd be a dream, I can't imagine would it would be like to see one- majestic but also pretty intimidating id think."

"Ah, I see. It's not the grass, phew" she crossed her forehead with her hand, "just the nippy weather. Grass is, after all, a plant. Wouldn't want to make it feel bad by not wanting to enjoy it." Indi was teasing but was right. Grass liked the company. Not many people knew that and took it for granted. They would also not believe her if she legitimately told them so so she let the knowledge fly and hope it stuck.
After Indi's intense ramble about what each plant was she realized she was talking to someone who did not study Herbology. Most of what she was talking about were things she learned in her more advanced classes. "Excuse the long rant," she laughed, a smile on her face. "I don't get a lot of people interested in what I'm doing. Well -- that's not true. It looks like you tried really hard to understand -- I -- that probably sounded awful. I'm sorry. You're not stupid -- I just --." Indi covered her face with her hands.
She opened one of her fingers so Ted could see one eye. "Want to know what the mallowsweet does?" She put her hands on her knees, her face still red. "You may know this from study, but mallowsweet is burned by centaurs to observe the fumes and flames, in order to refine the results of their stargazing," Indi was finally able to let her shoulders rest. "I thought they might like some so that's why I left some out here for them. A little gift, you might say."

Ted couldn't stop the blush that rose on his cheeks as Indi adjusted his bowtie. He wasnt used to people confident approaching his personal space like that. The bow tie was the thing he'd like the most about this suit. The thing that had seemed most him. People often commented on how alike Ted and his mum were but he wonder if he'd had the chance how much him and his dad might've had in common.
"Err, thanks" he ran a hand through his hair, messing up the neat style that Charity has helped him with. "Are you enjoying the ball?" what a lame question Ted he thought to himself. "It's kind of cool seeing everything decorated like this- I love Christmas anyway and this just makes it all feel even closer."

Indi had been waiting for the ball for some time. She couldn’t wait to see everyone dressed in their finest. She had put a lot of thought in her outfit — dressed in tandem with Alice, of course. She was still upset that Regulus went with Pandora but Alice was a wonderful date. Indi had decided to get the two drinks — sadly not spiked as far as she knew.
When she got to the station she turned to her right and saw Ted. “Good evening, Ted,” she gave him a warm smile.” She liked Ted. He was sweet and didn’t give the Scamander the typical Scamander conversation. He was looking quite dapper.
"I like the bowtie, good sir." She smiled, fixing it so it was straight. “Just right.”

Ted had originally been nervous to speak to Indi when they had first met, given her family connections and everything. Newt was a certainly a hero of his. He had tried not to let that get in the way, after all he assumed he would be the first person to recognise her for her family name and that could probably get annoying very quickly. She wasn't really someone he hung out with outside of lessons, but she'd always seemed like a nice person.
Ted chuckled "it's more in case I get cold." Being tall and skinny meant that he got cold far too quickly for his liking. He smiled as she answered his question. He tried to imagine her dancing along with the bush but couldn't quite manage to picture it. He nodded along as if he knew exactly what she was talking about. He understood Herbology to a degree but not when it came to the aesthetics of what to put in a garden. Ted wasn't ready for the question to be thrown at him and he stumbled over his words a little "me? i - i'm not sure- you certainly seem to have a lot more knowledge about all this than me- i mean i could help you plant some stuff if you show me where you want it- but I think i'ts best that the design choices are left to your expertise."

Indi was happy to see a familiar face. They were in different years but in the Magical Creatures group so she knew him at least a little bit. It was a double edged sword, really. Sure was in the club “for the family” but really it was her own curiosities that were getting the better of her. She wanted to be the Scamander that branched out and did something different but the creatures (the damn things!) had sneaked their way into her head (damn genes!). But no one knew that. She kept it secret, locked up tight. But Ted was always pleasant, sweet and kind. She didn’t mind his company at all.
“Brought a blanket, did you?” she asked with a bit of a laugh. “The grass not good enough for you?” Either way he sat down and actually seemed interested in what she was doing. “I’ve got a flutterby bush here — I love to watch them shimmy,” Indi smiled, “I tend to dance along with them. Good fun. And then some dittany because what’s a garden without dittany? And over there some mallowsweet for the centaurs. Have to keep them separate so the other plants don’t get burned when they do their stargazing.” Indi had a small smile on her face at the thought of doing something so small for them. “Well, what do you think? What’s next, hm?”

Today was one of those crisp autumn days. The kind where the sun was still shining, but there was a cool breeze and the promise of frost in the morning. On days like this, Ted liked to take a walk around the grounds. The chill in the air was something he found relaxing. He had brought the latest book he was reading and was on the hunt for somewhere quiet to sat down and read, all cuddled up in the blanket he'd brought with him.
He was around fifteen minutes in to his walk, when he saw movement at the edge of the forbidden forest. His curiosity peaked, as it always did and he found himself taking a detour to find out what was going on. He wondered if maybe one of the wild creatures that lived in there had come to the edge of the forest to explore. Not a creature Ted thought to himself as he got closer. "Sure" he shrugged, sitting down with his legs crossed as he watched her "what are you planting?"

Indi missed her gardens at home. Sure, she had plants in the dormitory but there was something about knowing they were being sunlight and proper rain. Not to mention she could grow flowers she couldn’t in her room. Sitting on her bed, carefully watching her poisonous aconite, she decided she needed something more. It wasn’t the first time at Hogwarts she’d had this dilemma but the thought made her itch.
She got up, put on some overalls, boots, pulled her hair back and grabbed just a few supplies before heading outside to the grounds. She looked around but nothing seemed right. Finally she saw the Forbidden Forest. That was right. It needed something beautiful as the forest itself was beautiful in its own right if looked at in the correct way. She ran down and just outside the line of the forest began working her magic -- also creating a garden for the creatures who had found their home there but that piece was her little secret.
Indi hummed to herself but still noticed someone behind her. “You can sit if you want.”
