cw: gn!reader, no pronouns used, some verbal fighting (not extreme), i have a habit of making suguru be an asshole haha
thinking about bandmate!suguru who makes u irritated just by looking at him... the snarky rhythm guitarist who narrows his eyes at your presence when you join the club via shoko, your childhood friend. satoru is delighted to meet you, exclaiming that the many designs that adorned your bass told him all he needed to know about you. iori is thankful that there’s another girl in the band, comparing you to a spring’s breath of fresh air amidst the stench of two specific men.
but suguru feels as if there’s something wrong about you… something that doesn’t fit into the usual dynamic—and he doesn’t do a good job of hiding it. he’ll ask aloud via practice whether bass is that important to the band, or that satoru is a jack of all trades! why couldn’t he do it? the best he’ll do is feign nicety and say the most passive aggressive things (“yeah we could do that, but this is better, y’know?”). his insults are soft-spoken, but they’re just as icy and if not, more sharp tongued than if he was yelling. don’t make a mistake, because his ears are just as sharp as his eyes and he’ll cut the song short if you play a wrong note or if you play it too fast. he’ll spend more time lecturing you about the importance of perfection rather than actually correcting your mistake and he doesn’t notice that it irritates not only you, but satoru, shoko, and iori as well.
you were fine with it for the first few weeks, obviously not wanting to get on the rest of the band’s bad side, but it came to a point where you refused to be a doormat and started retaliating with equal fervor. suguru is taken aback the first time you spit his own fire in his face, but ever since then, it’s almost like a game of catch between you two every practice. satoru had to pick you up by the scruff like a kitten one time to stop you from pouncing on suguru after he called you a poser.
it’s become like breathing at this point—suguru says something to tick you off and in a flash of a second, you snap back. the other three have long tried to help you both, sighing and shaking their head every time suguru smirk grows wider as your insults grow exponentially. he’s fueling his own fire and god forbid they put it out.
it comes to a boiling point, eventually. he should’ve seen it coming—all of them should. perhaps it was the way satoru, shoko, and iori automatically looked up to see your reaction the moment suguru finished words that slowly burned into your flesh, making you all halt your practicing.
“i don’t even know why you joined. you’re not that good, anyways.”
suguru himself had to take a moment to process what he had said, awaiting your reaction from your frozen self with not even your fingertips moving.
the entirety of the garage goes still, and before shoko snaps at him to apologize, he scoffs at your silence and lightly pushes your shoulder to make you face him. “yo, did you hear what i said?”
you don’t respond, but instead, you start to pack up your bass and other arrays silently. the other three dread what’s about to happen in the next few seconds, and look to suguru to send him a message but he sighs and shakes his head, something regarding you being deaf slipping his tongue.
the clicks of the clasps on your case are the only things that echo through the garage. your grip on your amp tightens and despite battle of the bands coming up in less than three weeks, you turn your head to the rest of them, making sure to properly make eye contact with a familiar purple hue, you mutter,
“find another bassist. i quit.”

Muse - Q Awards 2007
Some shitty quality but fascinating pics of Muse with other musical stars of the 00s at the 2007 Q Awards, where Muse were seen talking to Shirley Bassey, Nicky Wire (Manic Street Preachers), Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs), Ian Brown (Stone Roses), the singer Mika (who apparently really likes Muse!) and Kate Nash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Muse themselves, triumphant winners of the Best Live Act award at 2007 Q's, beating Arcade Fire, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q Magazine did feature their awards in the Nov 2007 edition of Q, so I can sneak in a picture from there too (thanks Musewiki <3)
Tumblr media
Here's what Muse had to say about it all (Q interview)
Rate your day on a scale of 1 to 10. Dominic Howard (drums): I'd say pushing eight. When we woke up hung over in Serbia this morning, it was about minus 5. But getting back to London pushed it up a few points and then winning this award pushed it up further again. By the time we get to the party later we'll hopefully have pushed it to 11.
This is the 3rd time you've picked up the Best Live Act Award. Not getting bored of it yet, are you? Matthew Bellamy (vocals/guitar): No, it's nice that we've bagged this again. We're not getting bored of playing live and we're not bored of people liking our performances either.
Your plane from Belgrade landed about an hour ago. you didn't get a nice early night in preparation for today, then?
MB: Not quite. Last night Belgrade was Bel-degrade. It got quite dark. I wasn't involved, but it included a transsexual called Pete. And a dildo. Pete was sat on your knee for quite a while Dom, wasn't that right? DH: (Solemnly) No.
Does visiting new cities give you more licence to misbehave? MB: Yeah, a bit. We've been lucky this year in that we've been able to go to new places - Eastern Europe, Asia, Mexico. Sometimes on tour you just cocoon yourself in your hotel room and keep your head down until gig time. being somewhere new puts you in the mood to get out more and meet new people, just to find new experiences.
So what's the oddest experience on tour this year? DH: Sorry, I can't get the transsexual out of my head now. Indonesia was interesting, mainly because I could've got killed. We'd taken a few silly things and we decided to check out some local bars in a really rough part of town. The houses were all corrugated iron and we had chickens running over the bonnet of the car, people banging on our windows. One of the guys got out of our car and he got shouted at, so we got out of there as fast as possible. But we were told later that we were lucky we didn't get shot, then robbed.
MB: Our tour manager got robbed by three ladyboys in a lift there, too.
Have you had any celebrity fans coming to the shows?
Christopher Wolstenholme (bass): In LA the kid for The Sixth Sense (Hayley Joe Osment) came to see us. I think he crashed his car on the way home.
MB: Paris Hilton to the LA show, too. But she left during Knights of Cydonia, which is the first song on the set. If we're offending Paris Hilton we must be doing something right.
The UK people will see your two Wembley Stadium shows in the summer as the pinnacle of the Muse live experience. How were those shows for you?
MB: I think we did our best. It's an amazing venue and the crowds made those shows. Big shows like that aren't just about the band, its about the whole experience and watching the crowd is part of the fun. It definitely gave us a taste for more of those big shows.
Any outrageous stage props that got vetoed by the council? Ten-foot-high robots and the like?
MB: Well, we wanted to have helicopters doing a balloon drop and circling above us with searchlights spotlighting the crowd, but apparently you're not allowed to have helicopters fly over big crowds in case they fall out of the sky and start mincing up. Which is fair enough, I suppose.
DH: We wanted to arrive by Zeppelins and drop down to the stage, but we weren't allowed to do that either...
MB: We're gonna make that happen next time. You can get these business Zeppelins now, like a private jet, so we could fly from gig to gig, descend for the gig and then get lifted back into the Zeppelin lounge.
So how do you go about topping Wembley? MB: We'll probably start from scratch again and build things back up with smaller gigs. DH: We'd like to do multiple nights in smaller venues. We might have more people onstage.
[Q mishears] Q: Small people onstage? DH: Yeah, more small people. Like Spinal Tap. No, it'd just be good to have the time to evolve the whole musical side of the show.
Is this tour ever going to end? MB: Technically, it's over in December. But there are a few more things that we've been offered for next year, so who knows?
The rumour is that you're going to headline Glastonbury again next year... MB: Ooh, that's a strong question! Very strong. Well, Glastonbury is a festival that's very close to our hearts. And it'll be amazing to play it again...sometime. But next year's plans have yet to be settled upon.
So we'll take that as a "yes" then? MB: No, don't take it as anything. DH: It's a maybe. CW: It's a flat "no".
Back to today: is there anyone here you really want to meet? MB: I'd love to say hello to Paul McCartney. But so would everyone here, I bet. We'll not be allowed near him.
Are you pretty sociable when you're at parties without musicians? MB: It's like when two dogs meet in the park: they eye each other up for a bit, then have a sniff around each other. So we'll see who's smelling OK later. Who's that? (Points at Damon Albarn posing for Q's photographer) Damon Albarn? (Unimpressed) Oh...
What do you want for pudding? DH: What's the obsession with pudding here? Someone else just asked us that. CW: We'll say something classic. Bread-and-butter pudding. Can't go wrong there.
So what are you doing next? MB: I have a meeting with out lawyers. Very rock'n'roll. But we'll be out at the party later. These days if we're in London it usually means we have to work, so one of the ideas in coming to this was to have a big night out.

Oh, the Théâtre des Vampires? Yeah, I've seen them. Their plays are edgy but their use of projections are pretty- what do you mean, it's run by actual Vampires. You're saying it's not just a gimm- and they actually eat the people on stage? Cool, cool, uh huh- the little girl is 40? This is their form of government? They settle power disputes with their plays? The most powerful one is the twink on the balcony? No. You're joking. No, I don't want to rest. Where are you taking me

one of my biggest pet peeves that i think is really common is just absolutely shitting on household name bands. like ones that have ascended beyond popular to literally no one hasnt heard of them. whose music is maybe seen as boring for how much we have to hear it.
case in point:
the first song i ever actually felt an emotional connection to was it's time by imagine dragons. i was 12ish and i made a drawing for art class based on it that also happens to be the first piece of art i was ever truly proud of and made me want to create more.
night visions (deluxe) was so important to me at that time, i laughed and cried and sang and danced to that album, and the night visions tour was the first real concert i ever went to! i still remember that concert, i remember my mom and sister dragging me out during the encore because they wanted to get ahead of traffic, and i was crying happy tears singing along to nothing left to say/rocks as it played muffled through the concrete walls.
i couldn't tell you exactly what else i was listening to at that point other than what itunes called "alternative," but then smoke and mirrors came out and it was such a new sound that i had never experienced before and i think thats when i really became ravenous for more music. i went to that tour as well and it was incredible.
and then i started listening to stuff my friends showed me, because now i actually cared, and i got on fallout boy and p!atd and most importantly twenty one pilots.
i listened to my dad's favorite bands from the 70s/80s, namely supertramp and boston. i got into trap and dubstep. i listened when my brother played hip hop in the car and got hooked on mac miller, and then when i found out what hip hop was like in the 70s and the whole culture that developed around it, i truly fell in love with hip hop. i mean that shit got me through my worst days of high school.
and honestly once i got to college i was just listening to anything; grunge, traditional heavy metal, thrash metal, indie pop, folk, blues, jazz (i took a jazz class for an elective, and that shit is fascinating), j-rock, chiptunes, lofi, city pop, eurobeat, punk pop and easycore (thank you alex), breakcore-
okay, i sound like a bragging asshole now, but you get my point. i would not have found any of this if i hadn't heard it's time by imagine dragons, and every time i say ID means a lot to me, i get absolutely shit on. i actually was introduced to rush when ID did a cover of tom sawyer at a concert, and my friend's reaction was "wow that must have sounded like dogshit, they're so bad!" a reddit thread was giving me shit for having ID on my top 10 most listened, ignoring all the stuff i know they had never heard of.
which. alright, to be fair, it is a bit funny and i don't mind getting some flak for it. its the internet, its all in good fun. but the most random obscure shit like will connolly's caterpillars of the commonwealth or phemiec's songs from the dustbowl being on my spotify is owed to ID, put some respect on their name- they were able to reach so many people with their music, and that's something to be celebrated.
uhh tldr: all music is valuable because all music is helping someone get through this shit world, and it can be a gateway to music they don't know that they don't know.
uh and if you actually got this far rec me ur favorite band

You all seemed to like the idea of the weekly poll to take a lesser-known song along with you as you scroll, so here comes the first of these new music Fridays!
Choose songs based on the 30-second Spotify snippets if you don’t know them (I’ve tried to make sure there’s something you won’t know), and if you like them they’re yours* to carry along on your trip!
*as in add them to your library etc., if you like them a lot come ask me and I’ll try and dig up a Bandcamp like for you, hee hee
Poll’s open for a week, so if you miss this one, I’ll hopefully be back with another one by next Friday!
Happy scrolling!
(Edit: yup I scheduled it too early, the poll has the wrong Connie Constance song aaaa. I do mean Kamikaze. Both are great songs)

Let's Trip 🎶
Tumblr media
cw: alcohol use
wc: 1307
Chapter One
7:30 pm the venue is packed and the openers have started to get set up. Though many people were there for the main act, you were there for the openers. You had a friend that knew the band and you always liked their sound, though you suppose it helped that they were opening for a band you liked. You found yourself sitting at the bar, cider in hand as you watched the stage. Soon enough the three boys and your friend walked on the stage, yelling erupted though most people made noise to be polite. Your eyes locked onto the lead singer, Matthew, he had always piqued your interest and Madi knew this little fact. Your eyes traced his tattoos as he tuned his guitar before moving to the mic, “Whatsup LA, how y’all doing tonight?” The crowd erupts with fangirls and you find yourself smiling. Matt introduces the band which gets a small smile and wave from Nick and a very enthusiastic fist from Chris behind the drums. Madi smiles, waving and looking at the back where you’re sitting. Madi introduces herself since she isn’t full time with the band but she is in a few of their songs. Once the introduction has been made the music begins. You nod your head to their indie rock sound, humming as he sang. Song after song you could feel Madi looking at you but on their song about a girl back home you felt a new pair of eyes on you. You looked to the stage and saw Matt looking in your direction. You nearly choke on your cider before seeing Madi with a devilish grin, singing her solo on the song while Matt plays. He’ll occasionally look up but his focus mainly stays on his guitar, it’s sparkly black marble shining in the stage lights. Your heart speeds up as you watch him in his element.
Eventually their set ends, many people are yelling and clapping, in a genuine way this time. They're walking off stage when you swivel in your chair and cover your face. Your heart hadn’t calmed down since you felt Matt’s eyes on you and you knew your entire face was red. After about 15 minutes you feel a tap on your shoulder and are met with Madi’s small figure. You smile, hopping off your chair and hugging her, picking her up for a second before putting her back down. “You did amazing!!” Madi giggles and shrugs. “Thanks! I had so much fun up there.” Then Madi’s sweet smile turns mischievous. You look over her head to see the triplets walking towards you. Nick gets to the two of you first, laying his arm around Madi’s shoulder and smiling at you. “Hey, you must be Y/N, Madi has told us ALL about you.” He offers a hand for you to shake and you take it, your other hand sitting in your leather jacket. “Oh wow I’m flattered, it’s really good to meet y’all. Don’t mean to sound like a total fangirl but I’ve been into y’alls music since debut.” Matt and Chris have now made it to you and Matt smirks. “Told you Chris, we do have fans from the beginning.” Chris rolls his eyes before moving closer to you, offering his hand. “Chris, nice to meet you.” You nod, shaking his hand with a smile. “Back at’ya.” Then you meet Matt’s eyes which had been burning into your skull since he walked up. You smiled at him and held out your hand, “Y/N, big fan.” He smiled and shook your hand. “Thanks for coming out tonight.” You nodded before shrugging. “Madi got me in for free and I like the music anyways.” You made eye contact with Madi who was eating up the awkward tension between you and Matt. You gave her a cautionary glare before looking back at Matt. “So LA down, where next?” Nick had already sat down to order a water and a coke, Chris next to him with his trusty Pepsi.
Matt ordered a cider and a water before sitting down next to you. “I think Chicago, then we go to New York. Chris is excited for that one.” Chris smiles as he downs his pepsi, scrolling through tik tok. “I hear Chicago is beautiful in late September, that should be a fun show.” Matt nodded, drinking his water. You followed suit, sipping on your cider as you looked to the stage. From your peripheral you could see Matt glancing at you before he turned in his chair, looking at the stage with you. “Is Tame Impala cool in person?” You asked, trying to break the slightly awkward silence by bringing up the band they opened for. “Yeah, they’re super chill. Kevin is really funny too.” Then there was silence again, at least until Tame Impala took the stage, screams erupted and you clapped loudly, standing to yell so you didn’t overwhelm the triplets and Madi. Soon, though, Madi joined you where you stood. Kevin took the mic and waved at the entire crowd. “What’s up LA, how's it going?” Madi screamed at that and you laughed, looking at how excited she was. Then she turned to you, looking you deep in your eyes and leaned to your ear so you could hear her. “Matt seems to like you!” Your cheeks warmed and you shrugged. “I’m just a sociable person.” Madi rolled her eyes before taking your hand and pulling you closer to the crowd. The beginning of Borderline begins to play and Madi cheers, you follow with your own cheering before the beat really kicks in. Madi starts to jump and dance and you smile, deciding to let loose and dance some too. It wasn’t like either of you were being advanced with moves but you still felt like you were doing some good moves. Back at the bar, Chris had moved to sit by Matt, Nick talking to the bartender happily about music and such. Matt was staring at you, cider in hand, Chris soon noticed his gaze and turned off his phone. “You like her.” Matt’s attention gets pulled to his brother and he laughs with a scoff. “I just met her.” Chris shrugs. “You still like her. Maybe Madi will bring her on tour.” Matt smiled at that idea before shaking his head. “Nah, she’d get sick of our music.” Chris shrugged again before pulling his phone out and filming the stage. Matt thought about what Chris said and sipped his cider again. Maybe you weren’t going on tour but he could get your number.
Once the concert was over Madi offered you to come back to their “get ready” trailer behind the venue. While y’all were walking back Matt caught up to you, Madi quickly running to Nick. “So uh, Madi said you’re in school here in LA.” You nodded, “Yeah I’m in my last year at LA film school.” Matt’s eyes widened. “You want to go into film?” You nodded once more. “Yeah, I love movies and I think it’d be really cool to film for famous directors.” Matt nodded along to your words, smiling at how sincere they were. “That’s really cool. Hey, maybe you could film some music videos for us?” You looked up at him and smiled. “I’d love to. That sounds really fun.” Matt nodded, trying to act cool and calm. “So uh, maybe I could get your number? We can talk about filming videos or whatever.” He shrugged, his cheeks getting rosey. You felt your face warm and you nodded. “I’d like that.” You both exchanged numbers before you got back to the trailer. Upon getting home many hours later you felt a buzz, you grabbed your phone to see a text from Matt.
“Thanks for coming tonight, hope to see you soon. Goodnight”

Day 7 of posting collages based on (and lyrics to) our unreleased songs:
Taking Advantage of Painted Faces-
"Clown face paint running down her neck
Everybody there is calling her a wreck
But they don't know what she heard in the hall
They're lucky she doesnt have further to fall"
(Description: three clowns, one painting tears onto his face, one holding a mask, and one playing a cittern [similar to a guitar] along the bottom of the image. Stars and sheet music along the top, all over a ballroom background)

Do we know Miles's or any of the AM members' opinions on the genocide in Gaza? Like I love them to death, but the lack of response has reaaally been bothering me. Not to mention the amount of privilege in not carrying about politics *looking at you, Alex*. I've seen Louise being pro-Israel.
OHHHHH anon i've been WAITING to talk about this. thank you for the question.
the answer is no we don't. to my knowledge, none of the members have openly talked about it. there has been no story on their official instagram, nor has matt (the only one with a public profile) posted anything about it on his account. not only that, but i did some research and apparently that benefit concert that him, tyler parkford and josh homme took part in also hosted people like jesse hughes and sarah silverman who are more or less openly pro-israel. which doesn't mean *matt* is, it just means he's not careful who he's associating himself and his image with.
the others have stayed silent. and miles, too - who's so active on social media - has never even reposted anything about it. not a word.
about the girlfriends, louise (and amanda) have spoken about "wanting peace" and louise especially has reposted some stupid ass posts a few months ago basically saying it's not "childish" to just wish peace for everyone - proving that she literally knows nothing about what has been happening for DECADES. both her and amanda have repeatedly proven they're centrists, which is just so. yikes.
the only one among all of them who has openly and almost immediately asked for a ceasefire is katie.
i've seen some people argue that the royal albert hall proceeds have gone to the war child association, but honestly - that's not enough. that was before, and even though knowing that is better than nothing, something they did in the past doesn't justify their lack of a statement on the genocide in the present. the fact that they're not even active on social media - just because they're too lazy to get someone to properly manage their account - isn't an excuse for staying silent.
whether they like it or not, they're celebrities. they have a platform they could use and they repeatedly choose not to use it. i love them but for the past few months i've been beyond disappointed in them.
