Misty Mornings: What could be one of the best views of sunrise, the Bay of Bengal from Pamban Island's shores, is not a scenery you'd wanna miss. From the break of dawn, the waters and their studded fisherboats keep changing hues, with each passing minute. From an intimidating dark to pearly, frothy blues, these waters are a paradise to both eyes and ears, with their gentle, bubbly hymns contrasting their grave appearances. The gales here are quite the turncloaks too, being all mellow and pleasant in the day but masking off to villainous rumbles at night. At home: This sunbathing owlet is the essence of what bird life at Pench forest is. Safe, providing and comfortable, with plentiful resources, this is a great haven for smaller birds with very few predators such as snakes or eagles. This shot was captured in mid december, 2018, when the fogs were unveiling a bright and gentle sun, painting the entire forest a golden-orange tint, making earth, trees and leaves, both dead and alive, glow almost as if it was all happening on that mild sun's very surface, the only reminder to any other reality being the bone-rusting chill and wintery breezes of central India. Pench has become somewhere I would definitely revisit. ~A.J. . It was late, one wintery morning,around 10 A.M. and the fogs were still reluctant to desert the damp earth as the sun made half-hearted attempts to penetrate it, when we found this kid alone. He was probably out spreading his wings, learning to fly , barely 6 months old. We were tracking striped cats along the muddy trails, seeking tracks of any four footed pedestrian, who might've had travelled down our paths before us. It was then that this guy gave us a few good minutes' worth of shots and flies over our heads, just within the reach of our hands, had we dared to stretch them, with a wingspan of about 5 feet. To be here when a storm makes land is a thrill. I was travelling from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari on a train that was supposed to leave around 9 but a potential storm hit alert was issued and since the Pamban bridge is the only railroad and a single track at that, into or out of Rameswaram, the train was delayed by 5hrs. Then for reasons that I learned not, the train started in those very gales but there wasn't a drop of rain. And once upon the bridge, the winds whistled through our carriages, sending shivers down every single spine aboard. The ocean below was churning as if it had half a mind to swallow us. Dark and seething with foam, the water waved like blood under moonlight. Trains usually do not go above 20kmph on this short stretch, so we got a full 30 minutes worth of adventure for just a 100 rupee rail ticket. the social networks: The intricate dependencies of the wilderness are quite remarkable. The treetop dwellers, birds, primates, and marsupials, call out the presence of a predator and all the surface dwellers in the vicinity reciprocate, propagating the call. This particular shot was taken asynchronous with a call from langoors in the treeline and this grazing stag starts to call back, as the sun was still continuing to rise. The tiger successfully hunted a deer, despite these efforts drom the herbivore community but on many occasions, these calls save many. But this chain of harmony and codependency is being broken in our forests today, because of human interference. From something as ignorant and seemingly tiny as littering whilst on safaries in these jungles to cellular networks with amplified radiations that kill thousands of birds, mankind is disturbing the ecological balance, root up. harmony Bambi here, hails from the forests that birthed Mowgli himself. The Pench National Park, though a tiger reserve, homes a variety of prey-species, the spotted deer being among them. This shot is proof of how nurturing and kind nature is. This fawn is grazing on leaves that have been plucked by gay-langoors on tree tops. And this is no accident or coincidence. The langoors, don't just dine on leafy branches themselves, at Pench, they actually purposefully drop leaves for the deer to feed on! This photograph has me wondering, ever since I clicked it, as to how it could have had begun... How did these monkeys first start feeding the deer and why? What prompted them? Maternal: Gray Langoors (Semnopithecus) are a native to the Indian Subcontinent. This mother-offspring pair was shot in the forest of Pench, which is also a National Park and Tiger reserve, spreading through three states in Central India. What makes me particularly fond of this capture of mine is just the nature of its subject. I and @ujval37 were tracking some big cats striped and dotted, through these woods, just after a winter sunrise around christmas and chanced upon this scene. We spot a few langoors feeding spotted deer some fresh leaves from treetops and it was then that this sunbathing mother's infant woke. What followed was something that I never experienced witnessing. The baby jumped into the mother's lap for breakfast and soon as she started feeding her baby, the mother closed her eyes and slowly got lost in that sensation, as her baby suckled away. And time appeared as if it had frozen for I could feel no wind, hear no leaf or see no life but this.
