𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙚𝙨 - 𝙘.𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙠
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: caitlin and yn are both rookies for the fever and hit it off immediately
-> ik cameron was second pick but let’s run with it for the story
𖦹 masterlist
“𝙒𝙄𝙏𝙃 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙁𝙄𝙍𝙎𝙏 𝙋𝙄𝘾𝙆 in the 2024 wnba draft, the indiana fever select caitlin clark.”
“with the second pick in the 2024 wnba draft, the indiana fever select yn yln.”
i clapped harder than ever when i heard caitlin’s name called for first pick. we’d played against each other in college, uconn vs iowa was the rivalry.
immediately after, i almost had a heart attack when they called my name. tears welled in my eyes as i walked up to the stage, had my photo taken with cathy and followed the security to where caitlin was.
she swept me up in a huge hug, squeezing me tightly.
“i knew you would make it. you always were the hardest to play against.”
she teased me as she released me from her grip.
“i didn’t think i’d make it, i wasn’t expecting to hear my name so soon.”
i tried to laugh but only ended up choking on my tears as i wiped them away. caitlin brought her hand up to my face to gently swipe away the remaining drops as she grinned down at me.
“at least we can play together at the fever.”
——
one month later
i walked into the indiana fever gymnasium, almost gawking at how big it was, and how decorated it was with accolades. many of the girls were already there and they all waved me over.
“welcome to the fever, yn. good to have you.”
erica wheeler greeted me, along with caitlin who was already there. she had come up behind me however, and slung her arm over my shoulders with a grin.
it was the first training session we had as a new team, so we started off with the basics.
i worked hard, trying my best not to disappoint anyone but most of all, myself. it took some effort but within a month of the season taking off, i was on the roster for the indiana fever. and just as everyone expected, caitlin was also in the roster.
we formed an easy link-up on the court, always nailing our passes and getting steals from our opponents. we were like the dream team.
it was a game day against the connecticut sun, one of the top teams. we knew it would be a hard game but i was confident we could do it if we tried our hardest.
when we arrived at the stadium before the game, me and cait walking in together as the paparazzi snapped photos of us and our outfits.
warm up started after that, and we were just shooting baskets. i was taking turns at shooting free throws with cait, and while she was lining up to take one i stood back and watched. i let my eyes memorise her face, her eyes, her mouth, her hair. she looked so pretty concentrated on the throw.
while i was letting my mind wander, cait took the shot and landed it perfectly. it was my turn and she snapped me out of my daydream. we continued shooting baskets for a bit then moved on, eventually going back to the locker rooms and gearing up for the game.
they announced the starters for each team, calling my name then caitlin’s, along with aliyah, nalyssa, and kelsey.
the first quarter started and it was game on. i immediately got on the ball, running it up the court to the basket and landing a shot. by half time we were up, 45-30, which was impressive for the fever.
it was just before the end of the game, the score was close and i knew that we had to put some distance between us and the suns. our coach called a break and we all jogged to the bench. caitlin and i found each other instinctively, and when the break was over we went back out there with renewed intensity.
in the five minutes left, i managed to get possession of the ball, run it down the court and pass out to caitlin who scored a three. then i did it again, stealing the ball back off a rebound and getting to caitlin who scored another three.
we worked hard the whole game to keep the score in favour of us. caitlin was basically pulling three-pointers out of her ass with the amount she had landed. when the ref blew the whistle for the end of the game, we all cheered loudly. it wasn’t an important game by any means, but it was a big win for the fever especially against one of the top teams.
i ran to caitlin and she pulled me into a hug.
“you killed that! ceo of three-pointers right here.”
i poke cait as she grins and shakes her head at me.
“nah i couldn’t have done that without your passes, they were fire.”
she nudges me back. neither of us leave each others side until we get back to the locker room. all the girls are talking about the win, and i’m running on an adrenaline high. the girls are all jumping and dancing around, shouting out to whatever music is playing on the speaker in the room. so i join in with cait, grabbing her hands and jumping around. it was an amazing vibe after a great win.

FEVER VS SUN IN UNCASVILLE, CT - PLAYOFFS GAME 2
Photos by Christopher Hall
Throughout her first season in the WNBA, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was an unprecedented TV draw for the league. It was only fitting, then, that Clark helped set one final viewership record in her last game of the season—even in defeat.
The Connecticut Sun's 87–81 victory over the Fever in Game 2 of the WNBA first round Wednesday drew a television audience of 2.5 million viewers on ESPN—the largest cable audience in the history of the league.
Caitlin Clark led the Fever in scoring with 25 points, six rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston had 17 points and 16 points respectively. Boston also grabbed 19 rebounds in the game, becoming the first player in WNBA postseason history to achieve that stat since Rebekkah Brunson on September 24, 2015.
With the win, the Sun win the best-of-three first round series, 2-0, and advance to the WNBA Semifinals for the sixth consecutive season. Alyssa Thomas led the way for Connecticut with a double-double, notching 19 points, 13 assists, five rebounds and one steal in the win. The outing marked her second straight game this postseason with 13 assists and her 22nd career postseason double-double, which is good for third all-time in WNBA playoff history, tying Sylvia Fowles. Thomas played all 40 minutes in tonight’s game, notching her 10th career postseason game doing so.

From the court to the sidelines, there will be a strong Australian flavour when the WNBA play-offs begin on Thursday September 14th Australian time.
The top eight finishers in the WNBA regular season split into four best-of-three first-round series with the winners advancing to best-of-five semi-final fixtures. The final two will then do battle over five games for WNBA championship glory.
The Seven Consulting Opals are well represented across playing and coaches ranks.
Cayla George’s Las Vegas Aces finished the regular season top of the ladder with a 34-6 record and now take on eight-seed Chicago featuring Alanna Smith and former Perth Lynx star Marina Mabrey.
Opals head coach Sandy Brondello guided the New York Liberty (32-8) to second seed and they now play the Washington Mystics. Reigning Rachael Sporn medallist and Townsville Fire championship player Tianna Hawkins, who will return to the WNBL this season, is a prime mover for the Mystics.
Opals assistant Paul Goriss is part of the coaching group at Atlanta Dream. The Dream, featuring new Perth WNBL import Aari McDonald and former Townsville player Monique Billings, face the Dallas Wings in a showdown between fourth and fifth-placed teams. New Southside Flyers import Jasmine Dickey is on the Wings roster.
Tokyo Olympian Bec Allen will make her play-offs debut with Connecticut Sun, after crossing from the Liberty in the off-season, who play Minnesota Lynx.
There’s a quartet of familiar faces in the Lynx line-up with Tiffany Mitchell, Lindsay Allen, Bridget Carleton and Rachel Banham all former WNBL imports.
Seattle Storm (Sami Whitcomb, Ezi Magbegor, Jade Melbourne) and Indiana Fever (Kristy Wallace) didn’t reach the play-offs and Whitcomb, Melbourne and Wallace will now return to Australia ahead of WNBL pre-season with their respective teams Townsville, Canberra and Melbourne, while Magbegor will again play in Europe.
Tipping off this Thursday morning AEST, all games are streamed on the WNBA app with selected fixtures on ESPN as below.
ESPN2 Australia
Thursday 10am AEST, Sun vs Lynx (Bec Allen)
Thursday 12pm AEST, Aces vs Sky (Cayla George, Alanna Smith)

okok time to check:
Storm vs. Lynx: it looked like i was gonna be right but then the storm threw! idk what happened there! mercedes russell did get too many minutes but it was way less than i thought it would be so thank you noelle quinn. nneka and alanna both killed it (thank you queens youre carrying my fantasy teams). phee mostly played pretty awesome but it wasn't a standout game for her i don't think
Liberty vs. Mystics: liberty you had me scared for this prediction (i was cheering for the mystics tho). liberty did look better than they did against chicago but they still didn't look like a finals team, im sure they'll figure it out. nyara sabally's minutes sucked (PUT HER IN). boooooo they didn't even give slim a chance at the jump ball bc shakira was back. every second that EE was on the floor was gif-ed because she was on the floor for zero seconds.
Fever vs. Sun: SUN WIN !! the sun give CC a welcome to the league moment check check, even though it was more dijonai than the power couple. AT played like an MVP (again carrying my fantasy team) and the indiana starters played the whole game lmfao. unfortunately the connecticut crowd was NOT loyal and indiana hit one less three. can't get em all
Mercury vs. Aces: aces won but i don't think i can honestly say they "smashed the mercury into little tiny pieces" so kudos to phx for a good game. DT leads the team in 3 pointers, silencing the haters for at least one hour, maybe two if she's lucky. aces did not hit the bench the way i was expecting them to, but meg got minutes against her former team! every single one of kate martins 0 minutes has been gif-ed. sorry to all the x reader fans that your girls aren't getting minutes lmfao
my opening day w predictions:
Storm v. Lynx:
the storm will beat the lynx but not by much
mercedes russell plays for too many minutes
nneka gets over 15 points
alanna smith is in double digits (im envisioning a battle of the posts)
phee plays incredibly (this is less of a prediction and more of just a thing that will happen no matter what)
Liberty v. Mystics:
bold take only bc preseason: liberty take this one
liberty look at least a LITTLE better than they did against chicago?
nyara sabally gets good minutes
brittney sykes wins the jump ball
every second that emily engstler is on the floor gets gif-ed by tumblr (no hate! just an observation! i think she's hot too!)
Fever v. Sun:
SUN WIN
alyssa thomas and dewanna bonner give cc a real welcome to the league moment
alyssa thomas plays like the mvp she is (she was snubbed)
indiana hits more threes than conneticut
indiana starters play almost the whole game
i think the conneticut crowd will actually stay loyal to the sun, partially bc of uconn and partially because people whos favorite team is the sun are LOYAL
Mercury v. Aces:
aces smash the mercury into little tiny pieces unfortunately
bec allen leads the team in three-pointers
tash cloud breakout game out of pure spite
aces go into the bench by the third quarter
people will post unreasonable hate for DT after the game bc her team lost but literally the aces are just too good it's not her fault
every kate martin appearance is gif-ed
