Diwali - A festival of lights, enjoyment and togetherness is celebrated with lots of love, crackers, sweets, faral all over the world and especially in India. This day is celebrated as "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
This festival begins with Dhanteras where celebrants prepare by cleaning their homes and making decorations on the floor, such as rangoli and making of faral begins. The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi while the third day is for Lakshmi Puja and the darkest night of the traditional month.
But the best part of this is eating different sweet and savoury dishes, offering same to our visitors and relatives, and enjoying the togetherness.
And I know it's even your favourite part of this day. It's even expected. As none of us will leave the chance to eat huge varieties of Diwali snacks which includes sweet, savoury, spicy items.
Woooh it's mouth watering just by thinking, doesn't it?
 Significance of faral
Faral, where households usually prepare or arrange thalis or specialty dishes and circulate these amongst close friends and relatives as a sign of goodwill. What sets this custom apart is that it is practiced by households of almost every sect and religion, unlike some religion-specific rituals related to Diwali.
Different types of faral is made in different households. The highlights of the faral are various types of Diwali sweets like ladoos, the crescent-shaped karanjis, flaky ghee-soaked shankarpale, Diwali snacks like crunchy chivda, hot chaklis, sweet, flaky chirote dusted with icing sugar.
The idea of faral is to store an assortment of snacks with longer shelf life, which could then be distributed to neighbors or guests who visit during Diwali. Most of these snacks are popular all through the year, but during Diwali they are made all at once in huge amounts to devour at any given instant.
Can't wait to get to dive deep for this famous FARAL ITEMS!
> Chivda
> Chakli
> Bakarwadi
> Karanji
> Shankarpali
> Kadboli
> Besan Ladoo
Chivda
It is one of most demanding, quick and healthy items of Diwali faral. Core ingredients in this is flattened rice (Chivda). However this chivda can be made in different styles which includes
Poha Chivda, Nashikche Chivda, Thick Poha Chivda, Fried Chivda etc
This easily digestible form of raw rice is very popular across India, Nepal and Bangladesh, and is normally used to prepare snacks or light and easy fast food in a variety of Indian cuisine styles, some even for long-term consumption of a week or more.
Chakli
Also known as Murukku in South India, this crispy snack made of rice flour is not only crispy, delicious and easy but also cracking to look at.
There are different types of chaklis can be made ranging from spicy to non-spicy chakli, healthy (made with ingredients like pulses and multigrains varients ) to deep fried chaklis, rice flour to whole wheat chaklis. In Maharashtra, Bhajani Chaki is very famous.
Bakarwadi
It is one of the most loved diwali faral items in Maharashtra but it is originated in Gujarat. So it's actually Gujrati farshaan.
This deep-fried disc of dough, stuffed with a wealth of spices - it unites the gentle sweetness of dried coconut, and the musty, warming flavours of poppy and sesame seeds plus, cumin seeds, with the tang of dried, powdered mango, and the potency of chilli is an ideal snack item with a chai.
Karanji
These are dumplings stuffed with dry coconut and sugar, deep fried or baked. Today, this basic stuffing has been replaced by unique stuffing such as dried fruits, figs, etc.
They are perfect to eat with a hot cup of tea anytime of the day. Most communities have a
Variant of this recipe and are known in Gujarat as Gujiya and Karchikkai in Karnataka.
Shankarpali
Shankarpali also known as shakkarpara, characterised by its diamond shape. Sweet Shankarpali made up of sugar, ghee butter, milk, Maida flour, salt, and semolina.
It's another version called 'Tikat shakkarpara' or ‘Salty shakkarpara’ is a savoury, spicy dish. The only difference in this is it uses a lot of spices to make it spicy and savoury. But I really love this version of Shankarpali.
Kadboli
Kadboli or Chegodilu is a very popular traditional Indian savory snack especially prepared during festivals or served as a tea-time snack .
Kadboli, typically is a mixture of rice flour, salt, ajwain, cumin seeds, chilli powder, turmeric
powder, all mixed together, and rolled into rings and air-fried until done and crisp.
Besan Ladoo
Festivals are incomplete without sweets and in India festivals are incomplete without ladoos.
Ladoo, an Indian sweet can be made using various ingredients and is round in shape.
Besan Ladoo is a round dessert ball made with gram flour which is called besan in Hindi and hence the name.
We make ladoos out of so many ingredients, there’s motichoor ladoo, aata ladoo, coconut ladoo, rava ladoo, this ladoo, that ladoo and this list is endless.
Out of all these amazing ladoos, besan ladoo is my absolute favorite.

Not all farmers are against Modi’s new farm legal guidelines, this group in Maharashtra is celebrating – ThePrint
Featured Post in Water Filter India dot com - Water Filter India
Farmers related to Shetkari Sanghatana collect exterior the tehsildar’s workplace in Nagpur district to have a good time the farm legal guidelines | By particular association
Text Size: A- A+
Mumbai: Farmers throughout a number of states, notably in Punjab and Haryana, have hit the streets in protest against the three contentious farm payments handed by Parliament final month.
While many farmers in Maharashtra too have joined the agitation, there have been some who took to the streets for a distinct cause — to have a good time the exact same farm legal guidelines.
They gathered in teams of 15-20, held rallies as a present of assist, burst crackers in celebration and even raised gudhis, normally a Gudhi Padwa custom to mark the start of the new 12 months in Maharashtra.
These are farmers related to the Shetkari Sanghatana, a farmers’ group based by economist and agriculturist Sharad Joshi, additionally a former MP, in 1978.
For this group, the new farm legal guidelines are a step in the direction of precisely what it has all the time advocated — freedom of entry to markets.
The Shetkari Sanghatana
The Shetkari Sanghatana was born in the Pune district at a time when onion costs had plummeted in the first markets.
Joshi, who himself had some expertise in dry farming, mentioned it was many years of unremunerative costs that had saved farmers poor, and rural poverty could be handled solely by making agriculture worthwhile with price-primarily based pricing. He coined the phrase, ‘India versus Bharat’ — with India being the thought of the city, British-minded and elite, whereas Bharat is the thought of rural farmers — and sought to focus on how India’s industrial planning was benefiting India at the price of Bharat.
Tumblr media
“Over the eighties, the organisation and its activities had a countrywide influence and no political party could afford to ignore its existence and strength,” mentioned a paper by R.R. Doshi, printed in the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economists in 1990.
Under Joshi, who was a Rajya Sabha member from 2004 to 2010, the Shetkari Sanghatana had additionally agitated in favour of genetically modified (GM) know-how to be made obtainable to farmers, demanding freedom of know-how together with freedom of markets. Last 12 months, farmers of the Shetkari Sanghatana planted unapproved kinds of GM seed in defiance of the regulation, to strongly press for his or her demand for GM know-how to be made freely obtainable to Indian farmers.
Also learn: This is how Congress states are planning to struggle govt’s farm legal guidelines, even when it’s ‘symbolic’
‘Opposition to farm laws political’
Of the three legal guidelines, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act seeks to offer farmers the liberty to promote exterior notified agricultural produce advertising and marketing committee (APMC) markets.
The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act makes contract farming attainable, permitting farmers to enter into agreements with agribusinesses, wholesalers, retailers, processors or exporters to promote at a pre-agreed value.
The third regulation, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, removes commodities corresponding to cereals, pulses, onion, potato and oilseeds from the important commodities checklist, taking away the inventory holding limits on these.
Several political events in addition to farmer teams throughout the nation have strongly opposed the legal guidelines, saying the adjustments will go away farmers on the mercy of massive corporates with higher bargaining energy, and may additionally set off unemployment in APMC mandis. The Shiromani Akali Dal, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally, even broke away from the National Democratic Alliance over the problem.
But the Sanghatana believes the opposition to the legislations is politically motivated.
“The protests are all politically motivated,” Lalit Bahale, spokesperson of the Shetkari Sanghatana who is a farmer himself in Vidarbha’s Akola district, informed ThePrint.
“Farmers know that APMCs exploit them and that hami bhav (minimum support prices) is kami bhav (low price.) Today, if you go to malls, you see organic cereals and pulses nicely packaged and being sold by brands at high prices. That could be us, putting our produce directly on the shelf out there,” he added.
Soon after Parliament cleared the three farm payments regardless of robust protests by opposition events, together with the Congress, members of the Shetkari Sanghatana circulated messages on varied social media platforms and farmers’ WhatsApp teams speaking about how the opposition is only for the sake of opposing.
One such message, posted on a WhatsApp group by the organisation’s West Vidarbha division, mentioned, “Just like late Sharad Joshi, former Prime Ministers Dr. Manmohan Singh and late PV Narasimha Rao were also in favour (of such reforms). Congress had also mentioned this in its manifesto. But now Congress, Trinamool Congress Party and Akali Dal are opposing just for the sake of opposition. Considering the present and the future, if we want happy days for the farmers, how can we keep them constrained?”
Another such forwarded message has been circulating a web page from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar’s political autobiography, Lok Majhe Sangati, in which the chief has advocated direct entry to markets for farmers and taking away APMCs. The NCP has joined the bandwagon of events opposing the controversial farm legal guidelines.
Speaking to the media final month, Pawar had mentioned the farm payments had been nicely intentioned, however questioned the hurry in which they had been being pushed by.

‘Support ideological but more needs to be done’
While the Shetkari Sanghatana is patting the again of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central authorities for opening up the marketplace for farmers, the backing comes with a phrase of warning.
The affect of the not too long ago-authorised farm legal guidelines is not going to be as robust as anticipated if the transfer is not accompanied with different agriculture-associated reforms, the farmers’ group says.
“Our support is ideological and we are not saying this will have an assured impact. The impact can be good or bad, we don’t know, because the associated laws have not been reformed,” Bahale mentioned. “The government took this step because it was an economic inevitability.”
On 24 August, members of the Shetkari Sanghatana on the taluka stage throughout a number of districts in Maharashtra submitted letters addressed to PM Modi on the native tehsildar’s workplace, welcoming the farm payments. The letters, nevertheless, additionally mentioned extra wanted to be completed to utterly free the farmer from restrictions.
The organisation is now in the method of drafting a extra detailed letter to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar with particular suggestions for reforms, corresponding to amending the Foreign Trade Act for ease of exports of Indian agricultural produce, particularly onions, and abolishing the Seed Act. The Centre not too long ago issued a notification banning the export of onions after a gradual spike in the worth of wholesale onions over two months.
The Seed Act regulates seed manufacturing and certification, and thus the standard of sure notifier varieties on the market. This, the Shetkari Sanghatana thinks, will restrict the farmer from selecting completely different newer kinds of crops.
For higher acceptability amongst folks and politicians, farmers of the Shetkari Sanghatana suppose the new bunch of legal guidelines shouldn’t be referred to as the ‘farm laws,’ however ‘consumer laws’.
“Between the farmer and the consumer, there were eight steps. This law will cut the distance. The farmer will get a more remunerative price and the consumer will also get better produce at a lower price,” Bahale mentioned. “Call them consumer laws and they will instantly be more acceptable, to people and to politicians.”

CSIR labs develop ‘green’ crackers
Tumblr media
By Sunderarajan Padmanabhan Newswave @ New Delhi Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan announced development of a set of new firecrackers that promise to be less polluting without compromising on the sound or light effect.
Tumblr media
The new crackers have been developed by scientists of two national labs - Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) based in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in Nagpur. The researchers at CECRI have developed green crackers by modifying the chemical formulations for flower pots, `jiljil’ and so-called atom bombs. Crackers essentially comprise of alkali nitrates, aluminum powder of different grain sizes and in some cases a binder to enhance luminescence. Aluminum is used as a primary heat source and to produce the flash. Researchers decided to replace aluminum with magnesium on the understanding that it would reduce ignition temperature and subsequently minimise particulate matter coming from the cracker. The trick worked. Field trials were conducted at Sivakasi, which is also in Tamil Nadu and which is a major firework manufacturing centres in the country and the new composition showed positive results. The minister said the new products had reduced emission of particulate matter and toxic gases, had less smoke and was less noisy. The particulate matter mission was reduced by 25 to 30 per cent. The researchers at NEERI have developed greener version of what are called `bijli’ crackers. Three prototypes have been developed and named SWAS (safe water releaser), SAFAL (safe minimum aluminum) and STAR (safe thermite cracker). The particulate matter was reduced by 30-35 per cent in SWAS and 35 to 40 per cent in SAFAL and STAR.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan said greener crackers have been demonstrated to the manufacturers and their reaction has been positive. There was, however, a need for approval from Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), which is the nodal agency for safety requirements in manufacture, storage, transport and use of all types of explosives and petroleum. The manufacturers will have to approach it. He said work on several other greener crackers including electronic-based ones are underway in six other CSIR laboratories -- Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur, Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Industrial Toxicological Research Institute and National Botanical Research Institute at Lucknow. Dr. Vardhan, however, declined to set a time frame for the crackers to be commercialized. “We are working on them. We will let you know when they are ready for the market”, he said.(India Science Wire) Read the full article
