If we focus on the architectural details of the Shyama Raya Temple, we observe that the structure is of squarish configuration, and each side measures about 11.4m. The roof of the building is flat curved ‘Chala’ type and above the roof rise five beautiful pinnacles, named the ‘Pancha Ratna’. The detailed planning and effort and obviously the successful execution of such diminutive designs on the exterior wall surface are undoubtedly praiseworthy. Shahnajaf Imambara :: This white domed mausoleum was constructed by Nawab Ghazi-ud-din Haider, the last nawab wazir and the first King of the state of Awadh in 1816 - 1817. It is situated on the bank of the #GomtiRiver near #Sikanderbagh and is a replica of Hazrat Ali's burial at Najaf in Iraq. The silver tomb of Ghazi-ud-din Haider lies in the centre of this building and his three wives are also buried here. It is flanked by the more imposing silver and gold tomb of Mubarak Mahal on one side. Amongst the Nawabs of Awadh, it was the sixth Nawab, Saadat Ali Khan (1798-1814) who proved to be the most efficient in the administration and collection of revenue through the Amani system, introduced by him. He was also the first to set up a royal treasury with a reserve fund, to which he left a sum of fourteen crores at the time of his untimely death, despite his love for horses and construction and purchase of palatial buildings. Some historians believe that his intention of amassing such large wealth was to buy back the territories taken away from him by the British, that earlier formed part of the Nawabi rule in Awadh. One narration asserts that it was the frustration of the British, in not being able to win him over for their financial devices, that the Resident conspired with the unfaithful servants of the Nawab to get him poisoned, resulting in his death on July 12, 1814. The conspiring angle may or may not be true. #shuttersofindia #trailsofindia #indianedition #asoulwindow #nowlucknow #lucknowpahleaap #natgeotravellerindia #lonelyplanetindia #lucknowuniversity #apkalucknow #lucknownawabokashahar #lucknow_mirror #lucknowdiaries #lucknow #landscapephotography #landscape #landscapearchitecture #indialostandfound #lucknowilifestyle #heritagematters #natgeotravellerindia #outlooktravellerindia #natgeoindia #cntravellerindia #travelphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/CcPHctcPJy1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Built in the fourteenth century by the Gonda kings, the iconic Madwa Mahal in Kawardha houses the image of Lord Shiva. Though being a center of devotion, the place is famed for its erotic carvings of Kamasutra. Madwa Mahal remains today as a charming amalgamation of faith and Kawardha’s glorious past. 🇮🇳❤️🇮🇳 . . #repost @sita_india ・・・ Sikandra, a village about five miles from Agra, and the burial-place of Akbar, is reached by two roads. The older one follows, to some extent, the alignment of the great military road to Lahore and Kashmir, planned by Babar and completed by his successors. A few of the Kos-Minars, pillars which marked off the kos- a distance of about two and a half miles- can still be seen along the road, or in the adjoining fields. Numerous remains of archæological interest are passed on the way of the old road. First the Delhi gate of the old city walls. About a mile further on the right-hand side, is a great walled enclosure, named after Ladli Begam, the sister of Abul Fazl, Akbar's famous Prime Minister and biographer. It formerly contained her tomb, as well as that of Sheikh Mubarak, her father, and of Faizi, her eldest brother. Many years ago the whole enclosure was sold by Government. Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple, Odisha
indialostandfound wrote : The Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple is built on a small island on River Raimal. A recent sculpture of Nandi is placed before the entrance of the temple. With the rise in the levels of the river, the temple gets flooded, and the shiva linga in the sanctum is surrounded by sand. The sculptures that were present in the niches of the temple have been lost to the constant erosion and flooding of the river.

Oh no! What a tragedy, what a disaster! Hope this doesn’t get buried in the post COVID 19 recovery period . We as a group should keep this issue alive for restoration as soon as feasible in the current scenario. Obviously, heritage and restoration will be one of the last priorities for the authorities right now. Thanks to Mohammad Haider Sir, for continuously working in the conservation and preservation of this monument and also lodged FIR against the encroachers. We shall repair ad rebuild the Sibtainabad Imambara outer gate. #lucknow #photography #travel #photooftheday #wanderlust #india #instagood #travelgram #travelphotography #love #instagram #incredibleindia #lucknowdiaries #architecture #_soi #uttarpradesh #picoftheday #instapic #india_gram #follow #imambada #beautiful #instadaily #indiapictures #naturephotography #travelbucketlist #likeforlike #photographers_of_india #postcardsfromtheworld #lucknowcity @thelucknowexpressofficial @thelucknowobserver @thelallantop @knocksenselucknow @thetimesofindia @indialostandfound @rastogiswapnil @googlelocalguides @google @lightroom @googlesnapseed @nikonphotocontest @uttarpradeshtourism @lucknow.me (at Imambada Sibtainabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-kPrh7gatt/?igshid=wl9zhdrs2mnr

The Ancient walled city of Burhanpur - The city located in Madhya Pradesh on the northern banks of Tapti river, has passed on many hands - Rashtrakuta dynasty, Khandesh sultanate, Mughal emperors, Marathas and British colony. Under the Mughals, Shah Jahan spent many years in this town and the Shahi Qila(Picture above) was his abode. The Qila is mostly in ruins now, but the cross sections of walls and ceilings are highly exposed, which is itself a detail to marvel on and study about. #workisworship I have experienced some new perspectives and people of mumbai I was on a volunteering assignment for @indialostandfound to capture the heritage of these areas, during this time period I have walked these busy alleys surrounding masjid railway staion, and was able to capture and talk to these people working hard to make a living. These workers have skills of carpentry, plumbing, painting and construction. They sit besides the roads with their equipments, just like the vegetable vendors do. They get picked up for work for their respective skills to various parts of Mumbai. The person I talked to mentioned " He is the last from his generation of family to work this job" . Kharod appears to be a major centre in the ancient kingdom of Dakshina-Kosala. A major dynasty that ruled this kingdom–situated in the often neglected Chhattisgarh was the Panduvamshi frequently referred to as the ‘Pandava’ dynasty in Sanskrit inscriptions. Inscriptions tell us that the capital of the Panduvamshi territory was Shripura or today’s Sirpur (70 odd kilometers from Kharod). Historians also wonder if they are related to the more well-known Somavamshis of Orissa. The traditional geographical name for this region is the Mekala. Mekala is dotted with lakes dug by Pandavas and medieval rulers. There is a Ramayana connection too. It is said that Kharod derives its name from Khara-Dushana, a demon pair who are killed by Rama and Lakshmana in the Dandakaranya (the forest of Rama's exile). . Anantashayana Vishnu, Saranga Village, Odisha The sculpture is 15.4m long and 7m in breadth, and depicts Vishnu reclining on Sheshanaga.
Thought by ILF Expert Surabhi Sharman : Dated to circa 9th century CE and attributed to the Bhauma-Kara kings, who were followers of Vishnu (Vaishnavism), the Anantashayana Vishnu is the largest open-air rock-cut image of Vishnu. Located in Saranga village, on the banks of the river Brahmani, the natural erosion of the sculpture lends it a softness that balances its monumental size.

The finest and the largest example of European funerary monument in the subcontinent, La Martiniere is associated with its rather strange and romantic past.
