caterina's datamined character description calling her korean-italian and early lucanis designs having him look east asian . i'll just do everything myself i guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
assorted thoughts: caterina is fully 'korean' or whatever the thedas equivalent would be in this design, and clawed her way to the top of the crow food chain after years of work. their armor is something caterina forcibly incorporated to distinguish house dellamorte from the other crows, and a symbol of their status because they get it custom made or imported. of course race-equivalents do not really exist in thedas or this world but i also will never forget how gaider just implied (east) asian people don't exist in thedas because it just so happens that there are no asians on the continent of thedas (guy who forgot about boats) . explode and die. there's not the same kind of discrimination as exists irl ofc (and the dellamortes are actually treated fine, much better than a mage or elf) but a level of xenophobia against foreigners from a different continent. illario looks the least like her, and passes for being fully antivan, which changes how he is recieved by the other crows.
and sorry if the korean is bad please actually let me know if it's horribly translated i relied on google translate . if you are one of ten asian dragon age fans feel free to talk to me at any given moment.

(via Silent Reading Clubs at Panampilly Nagar)
Silent Reading Clubs at Panampilly Nagar Something amusing occurred on a recent Saturday at Panampilly Nagar Central Park in Kochi. Kochi Book Reading Club had organized a readers’ gathering for silent reading at 4.30 PM. This marked their fourth meetup since the group’s inception just a month ago. However, on the very same day, a new group called Kochi Reads had scheduled its inaugural gathering at 4 PM at the same venue. People who had seen the announcements from both groups arrived and commenced the silent reading session. Those who had noticed the Kochi Book Reading Club announcement assumed that the gathering was affiliated with that particular group. Likewise, those who had seen the Kochi Reads announcement believed it was associated with their group. Consequently, two distinct groups gathered at the same location and sat together, silently engrossed in their own books, entirely unaware that there were two separate groups. Nevertheless, it didn’t significantly impact the activity, as each participant became absorbed in the book they held, regardless of the book club’s name. Nevertheless, I do wish that both groups would consider merging, as it would be a better arrangement... (Read full text on booksperience.org)

hello do u have any fav books about south asian history, culture, and politics that u could recommend?
this is such a broad remit so i forgot everything i'd ever read, but here are books that influenced my thinking –
ambedkar's annihilation of caste because he is india's foremost intellectual and understanding caste is central to indian society, sumit guha's beyond caste to understand the historical record on the question, amartya sen's the argumentative indian on the history of ancient indian heterodox philosophy, nandini sundar's the burning forest on the war in bastar, aijaz ahmed's in theory on postcolonial literature, nivedita majumdar's the world in a grain of sand for more on subaltern studies intersection with that.

Animorphs #4: The Message thoughts (pt. 3):
"I ended up being a little late" (p. 56). Okay, this is brilliant. I'm noticing just how often the narrator is slightly late to a team meeting, and damn. This is the best literary device ever. How have I never spotted this before? It's the easiest way ever to skip small talk, lead-ups, recaps, and all the boring parts of the conversation. The narrator's a little late to the meeting, so as soon as they get there everyone just dives right in. Literally, in this case. I have to remember this trick.
Marco almost dies of blood loss because nobody knows how morphing works and Cassie freezes under pressure. This team needs an Ax.
Love that Ax's reaction to seeing humans for the first time is "Gaaaaah! Fuck! What is that!?!?!?" [shoots it with a dracon beam] And then 10 seconds later is like "Oh wait, didn't Elfangor say something about how Earth is full of furless bipeds? And that they're our allies? Oops."
Also, Ax, bby. He immediately goes "take me to your leader!" and then ignores Jake trying to Homer Simpson into the bushes in his haste to pledge to die for Jake's cause. Poor kid. He just found out his big brother died and he will adopt a surrogate, no matter how much the surrogate in question kicks and screams in protest.
I've always found the detail about Earth being terraformed to match the yeerk homeworld to be one of the most chilling in the series. It makes sense, since that's what humans plan to do to Mars and what England tried on every other country on the planet, but learning about that after a book's worth of the richness of cetaceans' and birds' worlds is a damn gut punch. Plus, it's Cassie. She understands better than anyone what would be lost, if our sun were kandonaized and all inedible species annihilated.

this part of let it be makes me want to sell my soul to the devil to have been with them in India. What the fuck sort of meta conversation is going on between J&P
P: It’s incredible yknow just to sort of see us. What we’re doing, it’s incredible…”
?: “What were you doing?”
J: “yes, what were we doing?”
P (stuttering, pulling his hair): “well, y— err, I don’t really know, you know, but it’s like, we totally sort of put our own personalities on there […]”
Ringo laughing, cut to John grinning

“She is attractive, though," Bute said. "Her face was most pleasing."
"Yes, of course," Augusta agreed. "But she is very brown."
George opened his eyes. That was unexpected. "The earth is brown," he said.

"What," his mother said after a pause, “does that have to do with anything?"
"I love the earth," George said, thinking that explanation enough. (…) “The earth is brown," George said again. "That which springs all life, all hope. It is brown. It is lovely."
