Both of them look identical to a portrait of William Randolph Hearst on the wall behind them. There is also an empty picture frame that has a sign that reads 'Portrait of William Jennings Bryan.'

The caption reads "Candidates of the independence party, from telegraphic description."

On July 29, the Minneapolis Tribune reported that the Independence Party had nominated Hisgen and Graves as the Independence Party candidates for President and Vice president. A delegate who voted for Bryan nearly started a riot. Hearst had founded the party.
