I recently entered a commercial arcade in San Juan, and the architectural details truly impressed me. The concept revolves around creating an open, inviting environment. The interior atrium is a focal point, offering a vast open space filled with natural light, which enhances the welcoming atmosphere. The thoughtful orientation of the building and the dynamic split levels ensure an effortless flow, with ramps and walkways making the space accessible to everyone. The use of steel framing not only ensures durability but also adds an industrial elegance to the overall design. This project exemplifies how a collaborative approach between architecture and engineering can create a vibrant, community-centric space that makes a difference.

Post Centennial apartments in Downtown Atlanta on Williams Street — they’re coming along nicely.
This is yet another new housing development that I’ll probably never be able to afford to live in, but that I’ll enjoy walking by. It sure beats the heck out of walking past the awful surface parking lots that were here.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that the property tax revenue from these apartments is expected to be nine times what was collected on the parking lots. That’s revenue that the city uses for stuff we can all benefit from.
If there’s a way to steer that revenue — specifically when it comes from turning unbuilt lots to new, market rate multi family housing — into funding for affordable housing and rent assistance, that would be boss. Let’s work on that, whoever gets elected in Atlanta government today.
Because if urbanism isn’t inclusive, it isn’t good. We can’t just build walkable places for the wealthy among us and pat ourselves on the back, hoping that somehow the benefits will trickle down. We have to be intentional with including people on the lower end of the income and wealth spectrum in all of our urban plans.

Inclusive urban creation
If focus was shifted from the development of modernised, globalised, profit-hungry cities, to the creation of inclusive, integrated, connected cities, urban space and its associated experiences would become more accessible, representative, and socially just, thus solving the social inequality issue at the human scale. The implementation of progressive urban policy and planning based on the possibilities of the everyday is what is needed to create a city with an accessible urban experience for all. 09.01.16 @Breeza66
