The Enduring Wisdom of Rod Serling: Choosing Love Over Prejudice
In 1960, Rod Serling’s iconic television show The Twilight Zone aired an episode titled “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.” One of its most memorable lines resonates powerfully today: “For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of…

Healthcare Standards: Striving for Excellence in Patient Care
In today's rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, healthcare standards play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality and patient-centered care. As healthcare providers strive for excellence, it is imperative to not only adhere to existing standards but also anticipate future trends and embrace global best practices. Let's explore how accreditation insights, diverse care standards, and inclusive practices contribute to the enhancement of healthcare standards.
Future Trends in healthcare are constantly shaping the way patient care is delivered. From the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine to advancements in precision medicine, staying abreast of these future trends is crucial for maintaining relevance and effectiveness in healthcare delivery.
Inclusive practices are essential for ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances. By adopting inclusive practices, healthcare providers can address disparities in care and promote health equity among diverse patient populations.
Global best practices serve as a benchmark for excellence in healthcare delivery. By studying and implementing global best practices, healthcare organizations can benchmark their performance against international standards, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Accreditation insights provide valuable guidance on meeting and exceeding healthcare standards. Whether pursuing accreditation from organizations such as the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), leveraging accreditation insights can streamline processes and enhance the overall quality of care.
Diverse care standards recognize that healthcare is not one-size-fits-all. Different patient populations have unique needs and preferences, necessitating the adoption of diverse care standards to ensure that care is tailored to individual requirements.
In conclusion, achieving excellence in patient care requires a commitment to upholding healthcare standards while embracing future trends, inclusive practices, global best practices, accreditation insights, and diverse care standards. By integrating these elements into everyday practice, healthcare providers can truly strive for excellence in patient care.

Costco Wholesale's actions regarding an upcoming annual shareholder meeting slated for late January 2025 are making headlines. Of particular note is a suggested agenda item for a proposal requesting a vote to report to outline the risks around Costco's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. Specifically, the group submitting the proposal expressed concern over financial, legal, and reputational damage to Costco if the organization stays committed to DEI. The proposals call out warnings around discriminatory lawsuits like that of Starbucks, retaining a chief diversity officer position, and citing concern over Costco's unwavering commitment to equity. However, Costco's Board of Directors reviewed the proposal and unanimously recommended against it, citing inefficient content and evidence for rigor in structures to ensure fairness to justify investment in investigating the effectiveness of DEI at Costco. The Board response also highlighted doing the right thing for its communities and highlighted concern over ulterior motives in the proposal submission. Essentially, the Board voted to favor inclusive leadership and encouraged stakeholders to vote for inclusion. Costco's move to not cave into competitive pressures and stay the course with DEI commitments earns the title of Inclusion Hero of the Week.
Inclusive Leadership Is About Walking The Talk:
Golden Compass Concept
Costco has a mission that encourages doing the right thing for its communities.
A guiding principle around inclusion is ensuring that leaders walk the talk, which essentially means ensuring alignment between leader language, behaviors, and actions; otherwise, it can appear disingenuous. Costco has done so and shown commitment to inclusion in the workplace in several ways.
There is clear leadership buy-in for DEI as a priority. Costco's site messaging includes a quote directly from the CEO about the value of appreciation for inclusion: "We flourish from having employees with different views, experiences, and ideas." Additionally, the Board's actions align with the goal of an inclusive workplace. For example, there are dedicated resources to foster an appreciation for differences across the enterprise.
The Costco mission states that the organization is vested in "doing the right thing—for our members, our employees, our suppliers, our communities, and the environment." The decision to stay the course aligns with the Company's mission, which is also expressed in the voter proxy ready information to support decision-making.
Business Opportunity
Representation opportunities still exist for Costco
Increased Representation Is Important For Inclusive Leadership:
Much discussion has been about the importance and necessity of representation in leadership to allow for the thriving of inclusive workplaces. While Costco is to be applauded for its decision to stay with DEI, FY24 demographics show opportunities for increased representation. The organization shows 54.2% of employees are male and 45.6% female. Management numbers show 62.9% male and 37.1% female. For executives in the United States, the numbers show that 72.3% are male and 27.7 % are female. For Race and Ethnicity non-management roles, 33.1% are Hispanic, 9.3% Black, and 8.5% Asian. Costco has 36% gender diversity and 9% race/ethnic diversity on its Board. Costco reporting shows more demographic breakdowns.
Inclusive Leaders take note. Organizations don't have to be perfect to make impactful strides in creating inclusion in the workplace. Costco continues to march forward unbothered by competitor actions, such as Walmart (owner of Sam's Club), which chose to move in the opposite direction, scaling back on DEI commitments. The example above shows Costco staying the course to appreciate employees, vendors, and customers.

Genuinely part of me thinks ao3 should install the 4 character max limit that fanfic dot net has because I should not have to scroll through 50 fics about men in order to get to a Cass fic in her own tag. If she's a side character with two lines then don't fucking tag her! She is not a main character in your Jason Todd Tim drake Danny Phantom spiderman fic and we both know she's not going to be relevant enough to earn that character tag so just don't add it! Let Cass fans who want to read Cass be able to find actual fics about her my god.
#dc#cassandra cain#batfam#dc rambles#I think the multiple character tags are good in practice but people need to have it taken away until they learn fandom etiquette#Tagging women and Duke in your fic doesn't automatically count as caring about them and being inclusive#You have to actually use them as main characters. Otherwise it's just worse.

While I understand the goal with gender-inclusive/'gender expansive'/unisex adult clothing patterns, I kinda hate them. Like. That's just now how human bodies are. One-size-fits all just doesn't!
A garment that is designed to fit well on a body without breasts will, by definition, fit like shit on me, no matter how boxy/oversized the style lines are! A garment designed to fit someone with by body (or the closest common approximation of my body, with like 3" less breast full bust circumference) will, by its very nature, fit very badly on someone flat-chested. See also, shit like shoulder width, and waist/hip raios, and I'm sure various other aspects.
Like, I get that there's a lot of baggage surrounding body shape and social expectations of gender! But you can't get around that baggage by pretending that various physical differences just don't exist!
If I want to dress more masc, the shape of my body does not change. The fit adjustments that I need to make don't change. I would in fact need to make additional tweaks and adjustments to get a traditionally masculine silhouette. And while it would be interesting and valuable to have guidelines on how to do that, unisex pattern designs move the whole process back in the opposite direction.
#San sews#Possibly my reaction is informed by a fat person's experience of one-size-fits-all#Which so rarely includes me#But it's deeply frustrating to see something marketed as inclusive while *knowing* that it's been made that much *less* accessible to me!#Universality is just not practical or even feasible in garment and pattern design#The variability of bodies precludes it#And that does not mean that patterns are inherently gender-exclusive! But if you want to truly acheive unhindered garments#You can't really start with a one-size-fits-all outlook#You have to offer more built-in variability or at least guides on how to acheive that variability through fitting#It's just... well-meant but ultimately shallow and sloppy

It's actually fascinating what information organizations include for their demographics
My hospital profile lists me as lutheran (I'm not; my family are), and obviously they have jewish as a whole category. They have three different "types" of lutheran (I still don't know the differences between these), jainism, native american (I wonder if native religions have names; surely you can't lump them all as one big category when there are three lutheranisms listed?), and zoroastrianism (which is extra neat considering zoroastrians make up around 0.0029-0.01% of the population of the USA and we live in a very small town), and a few other options
But then the only ethnic background you can choose is ashkenazi jew? No sephardi, no mizrahi, just ashki? Yes, it is true that more ashki jews emigrated to the USA and therefore make up the majority of the population of USA jews, but ashki aren't the only "types" of jews with an ethnic background 😭
#jumblr#personal thoughts tag#long post#i'm not complaining about zoroastrianism being listed obviously; i am fully in support of its inclusion REGARDLESS of the numbers#i'm just confused that there is a level of consideration put into the list but then that effort drops off#i'm not educated enough on native religions so the parenthesis are me genuinely wondering#because it doesn't make sense to lump All Native Americans as one in any other sense (esp. with cultural practices)#so it only makes sense that that would apply to religious belief. no?#i applaud the effort. i want them to push that envelope even further if they want to be inclusive to patients on religious and ethnic bases#okay technically they include more ethnicities than ashki jew. those other ethnicities are 'other' and 'unknown'

legendary fakemon design based on Pamola (a flying entity who whips up storms on mt katahdin, he is part of Native Penobscot culture), with some minor added osprey inspiration
#design is tentative due to this being based on a penobscot practice however! My brain can't handle random prompts; if I don't give it a theme, it turns Inktober into a story (successfully with Mousie & Chicken, biting off more than I could chew with the magical arctic adventure).
But this year the 'official' prompts themselves have a very obvious theme.
Suddenly my desire to make a narrative has completely evaporated. Not sure if this is innate rebellion or if I need more challenge or what, but I have absolutely zero desire to make pictures that tell a little story once it's obvious what kind of little story I'm supposed to tell.
#art#Inktober#it's been a very good practice for me in years past#but I just don't know this year#I'd say 'I'll work on something every day' but that's not enough#needs a more defined goal#and also damn it the days are kinda full#artist problems#writer problems#also the inclusion of 'violin' after all the travel/exploration words is calling me out personally#But I've drawn or painted more fiddles than anyone else I know#so I am immune to your taunting!
