Coffees places

Hey, how are you???

Today, I am going to tell you six coffee places that I have been to!!!

1. The Coffee Klub which is 95 paisley road in Renfrew. Unfortunately it is not accessible but there’s outside seats ad tables. The staff is helpful as they bring out their menu out to you. Their coffee is a 1 out of 10.

2. Katie’s kitchen which is 4 Inchinnan Road in Renfrew. Unfortunately it is not accessible but here’s outside seats and tables. The staff is helpful as they bring the menu out to you. They do the best cakes. Their coffee is a 9 out of 10.

3. Zambretto’s which is 42 Old Sneddon Street in Paisley. The toliet isn’t really accessible. The food is nice. The coffee is a 5 out 10.

4. I got a Starbucks which was delivered from Hillingdon business park, Glasgow. Delivery driver was nice. I bought 2 coffee’s. One was a pumpkin spice frappe and it is a 10 out of 10. The other one is a pumpkin spice latte and it is a 10 out 10.

5. Pendulum which is 11 Gauze Street in Paisley. The toilet is tight. The food is amazing. Their coffee is a 8 out of 10.

6. Costa coffee in the paisley piazza. The food as nice. Their coffee is a 9 out of 10.

Day 352 of 365 Photo Challenge. White Cart Bridge is a Scherzer rolling lift bascule bridge situated on the A8 road in Renfrew, Scotland. The bridge crosses White Cart Water at the confluence with the Black Cart River. It is the only remaining lift bridge in the country and became category A listed on 13 December 1994. The bridge is still capable of opening, as the Doosan Babcock factory in Renfrew require the capability to move large loads by river. The White and Black Cart rivers have been an important crossing site for many years. Initially people forded the rivers and latterly a ferry was used to make the crossing. A bridge was built in 1759. It was a seven-arch bridge, crossing both rivers, and was washed away in 1809. Two separate bridges which are still in use today were built in 1812 as a replacement for the crossing. The new bridges could not accommodate large ships sailing into Paisley. A new section of river bypassing the low bridge was completed by 1838, requiring a new bridge to cross the White Cart. Initially a swing bridge was used to make the crossing. It was replaced by the lift bridge in 1923. The name swing bridge has remained locally even though the bridge lifts, rather than swings. The bridge was designed by Scottish civil engineer Sir William Arrol. His company William Arrol & Co built some of the most famous bridges in the United Kingdom including the Forth Bridge and Tower Bridge. They were responsible for the construction of the bridge at Renfrew. In August 2004, a £1m restoration project in connection with Historic Scotland took place. This involved renewing all the mechanical components and resurfacing the road. i’m very intrigued by this mention i found regarding the inchinnan parish and the use of mortsafes as temporary instead of permanent?? for context, mortsafes are the big iron cages you sometimes see built over graves. they’re not for vampires like every fuckin pixelated meme on facebook claims, they were to fend off bodysnatchers. here’s an example if you haven’t seen one:

and i always assumed that they were mostly permanent fixtures, but one source claims that the ones at inchinnan were used kinda... like dead houses. basically, the idea of both dead houses and these specific mortsafes is that you only need to guard the body until it’s decayed severally enough to be useless for anatomists. so instead of having a cage over your permanent grave, as is the case with a lot of mortsafes, these are ones you’d basically rent. you would open the cage, bury the coffin, lock the cage again, and let the body decay there for six weeks before taking the coffin out again and reburying it in the permanent resting place. 

i know i’m rambling into the void and this is probably interesting only to me but this is such a different use of mortsafes than what i’m used to seeing and i’m!! intrigued!! as to whether this was the case in some other scottish sites as well!!

On July 6th 1919  the Scottish built Airship R34,, landed at Long Island, USA.

The Airship was the R34 constructed by Glasgow’s Beardmore Engineering Co., it took off from East Fortune Airfield in East Lothian and battled against strong headwinds to arrive at Mineola Airfield, Long Island on July 6th, in a time of 108 hours.

Along the way two stowaways had been discovered, a kitten called Whoopsie and a human called William Ballantyne – a crew member who had been removed to make room for an American observer but didn’t want to miss out. He was found over water, otherwise he would have been given a parachute and sent homewards. A parachute was used by one of the officers who jumped to help the American reception personnel who were unused to dealing with an airship of that size.

The crew were fêted by the people of New York, and met the American President Woodrow Wilson. After several days of being entertained and re-equipping the airship, it was time to return. The journey home encountered no major issues. The R34 was scrapped in 1921 following an accident.

Day 90 of 365 Photo Challenge. India of Inchinnan is now a commercial site in Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, Scotland, that was formerly used for various industrial uses. It includes the former office block of India Tyres of Inchinnan - a Category A listed building in the art deco style, designed in 1930 by Thomas Wallis of Wallis, Gilbert and Partners. The office block was similar in style to Wallis, Gilbert and Partners' Hoover Building in Perivale, London. The site was first used industrially by William Beardmore and Company, who obtained a contract from the Admiralty to build airships in World War I. Airship components were built at William Beardmore's Dalmuir, Clydebank, factory but more land was needed. William Beardmore therefore obtained land at Inchinnan and built the Inchinnan Airship Constructional Station. Building work started in January 1916 to construct the Station, which occupied 413 acres (1.67 km2). Due to the difficulties of getting staff to this isolated location, the company built 52 houses in Inchinnan, at Beardmore Cottages. A large airship hangar, the Airship Shed, was built by Sir William Arrol & Co. At 720 feet (220 m) long by 230 feet (70 m) wide and 122 feet (37 m) high, it was of comparable size to the Cardington and Howden Airship sheds, which were contemporary. It was designed to accommodate two Class 23 airships side by side; of the class only R24 was built by Beardmore. A hydrogen production plant, a bottled hydrogen storage area, and various production shops were also built. William Beardmore successfully built several airships, Airship No. R24, R27, R34 and the R36. The Admiralty contract was cancelled in August 1919 and no more orders were received.
