Vampire WWX/Fae LWJ: What is their first time sleeping in the same room like? Their first breakfast? Or when WWX notices that LWJ is softer with bunnies?
part 1
On the morning after his arrival at the Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian opens his eyes to find Lan Zhan's moon-white face hovering less than an inch above his.
"I am going out to fetch breakfast for us," Lan Zhan says stiffly. "What do vampires eat when they cannot get human blood?"
So rude, Lan Zhan! Wei Wuxian laments to himself, rolling a sleeping A-Yuan onto his back. You could have at least wished me a good morning first, couldn't you?
But then, he had woken Wei Wuxian to ask what he wanted for breakfast, so perhaps this is just what Lan Zhan is like when he tries to be kind.
"Meat, mostly," Wei Wuxian replies, watching as his husband grimaces in distaste. "But half-blooded xuemo can survive without it, so you needn't hunt for me. I'd be grateful for a bit of the porridge you and your brother like as long as you give me permission to eat it."
He winks, making Lan Zhan blush all the way up to his ears. "You will give me permission, won't you?"
"I will, but that is beside the point. By the laws of your people, I am your husband, so it is my duty to provide the nourishment you need." The faerie takes a deep breath. "If you require meat, I will bring you some suitable creature to kill and eat as you see fit. I cannot do the killing myself, but fetching the animal—that I can do."
Wei Wuxian's heart melts; for all faeries hate to do harm to living creatures, and yet his Lan Zhan is willing to do most of the hunting work on Wei Wuxian's behalf.
"There's no need for that," he says gently. Lan Zhan opens his mouth to protest, clearly not liking the look of Wei Wuxian's thin wrists and sallow face; but Wei Wuxian only motions toward the south side of the cave, where he can hear the river gurgling through the trees on the other side of the wall. "You go out and buy some rice and vegetables, and I'll catch some fish for myself while you're away."
Lan Zhan inclines his head and departs, taking his money purse with him; for while the Lan faeries grow their own vegetables in the wood, they have to buy rice and dried spices from the human settlement to the north.
No wonder their food is so bland, Wei Wuxian thinks wryly, as he makes his way towards the river with A-Yuan in his arms. Lan Zhan doesn't have a single herb in his kitchen, except for that old lump of ginger.
He plants A-Yuan in the soft ground near the water, as he usually does at this time of morning. Wei Wuxian helps him dig his little legs as far into the ground as they can go, looking on in satisfaction as the three long leaves on the baby's head unfurl and reach up towards the sun; and then he lays a fish trap in the shallows and splashes across the river, keeping A-Yuan in his field of sight as he searches for kindling seasonings.
He manages to find wild cloves and garlic growing on the far bank of the stream; and by the time he goes back to examine his fish trap, A-Yuan has finished sunning his leaves and soaking his little body in the mud.
"I don't know if you're old enough to eat food," Wei Wuxian muses, marching back to the cave with A-Yuan wriggling under one arm and the laden trap under the other. "You need to be sunned and watered like a plant, so eating fish might make you sick. We'd better not risk it."
A-Yuan squeals and looks up at Wei Wuxian with wet, reproving eyes. "So you do want to eat fish!" Wei Wuxian says accusingly, making A-Yuan shriek with laughter. "But you don't have any teeth. I don't know very much about babies, Yuan'er, but I do know that the women in Jieyu Village never started weaning theirs before the babies cut a first tooth."
The baby looks more wronged than ever. "Bu!"
"Perhaps we should boil the rice into porridge, and put pieces of the fish inside," says a deep voice from behind them. "That way, the rice will be soft enough for A-Yuan to swallow without chewing."
"Oh!" Wei Wuxian turns around and nearly jumps out of his shoes at the sight of Lan Zhan, standing at the mouth of the cave with a bag of rice slung over his shoulder. "Lan Zhan, don't be so quiet when you're walking. I nearly dropped A-Yuan."
Lan Zhan shakes his head. "I doubt you could ever do such a thing. But in the future, I will endeavor to make more noise when you are close by."
He lowers his eyes to Wei Wuxian's fish trap. "Did you catch anything?"
"A pair of grass carps," Wei Wuxian tells him, extracting the fish from their prison and holding them up for Lan Zhan to see. "Now, go light the fire and fetch some water from the well. I need hot water for A-Yuan's bath, and it's past time for breakfast."
So Lan Zhan lights the fire in the little courtyard; and there is a courtyard, much to Wei Wuxian's relief, because Lan Zhan built his small refuge after the fashion of most human dwellings, so that Wei Wuxian could almost forget that his cave was a cave and not a wooden house. After that, he sets off for the nearby well with a yoke fitted about his neck and shoulders, returning scarcely ten minutes later with enough water for both breakfast and A-Yuan's bath.
"I will bathe A-Yuan while you fry the fish," Lan Zhan says, dropping the pails and taking the baby from Wei Wuxian's arms. "There is oil in the bag of groceries I brought, if you need it."
"You didn't have oil in your kitchen?"
His husband sighs. "I used the last of it for yesterday's dinner. Now go."
Wei Wuxian nods and makes his way outside, where he finds a strange contraption for grilling set up in the middle of the courtyard. It looks strong enough to support a hook and pan; but the fish will cook faster in the coals of the fire, so he spears the two carps and roasts them with his foraged seasonings until the skins are burned black.
"Is the rice ready?" he calls, ducking back into the cave. "And what about A-Yuan?"
"A-Yuan is ready. The rice is not," is his husband's laconic answer. "Come take him, and I will bring the rice out to you when it is cooked."
In the end, it takes another quarter-hour before the rice porridge is cooked through and made cool enough to eat. Wei Wuxian feeds some of it to A-Yuan and tries a little himself, after which he puts down his spoon to scold Lan Zhan for being so miserly with the salt and ginger.
Lan Zhan looks oddly pleased for a faerie being scolded about his cooking, though Wei Wuxian can't begin to imagine why.
Stranger still, that breakfast is one of the best Wei Wuxian has ever had; and he doesn't understand that, either.

Toxic Headcanons for BandAU!Peter: Lovers to Rivals to Enemies to Lovers Edition
That song he wrote and preformed for you while you were together? He’s singing that to random girls he brings on stage. He knows people will film it, that you’ll see it. He tries to find your reaction to see if you still care.
He follows your public sm profiles on burner accounts, uses your few mutual friends to spy on ur finsta. He wants to keep tabs.
All of his bandmates know that he’s still in love with you. He doesn’t date anyone for more than 6 months at a time. They try to put their foot down, thinking they’ll be different. They’re always disappointed. He sometimes has to push them to have the self respect to break up with him.
He cannot be alone for longer than a few weeks. He’s always been that way, fame just made it a lot easier to rebound.
Anyone you’re publicly linked with, he’s sneak dissing. Whether doing a sarcastic aside on stage, implying they’re overrated on a podcast, or referencing them in a song. He’s always been talented and manipulative when he wants to be; it’s one of those things that you would be accused of overreacting to, bc he’s being subtle.
You hook up whenever you see each other. You hate yourself for it. It doesn’t matter if either of you are dating other people. If you’re at the same location, he seeks you out and you follow him wherever. It’s hatefucking and you both usually leave with teeth marks, scratching, and bruises.
But sometimes, especially if he can get you somewhere secluded and private, he fucks you like you’re still together. He’s slow, kissing you all over. “I love you, I’m sorry, I want you back, please…” All whispered into your skin as takes his time taking you apart. Youve known him long enough that while he means it in the moment, he wont change.
Secretly tries to baby trap you almost everytime. Not enough to stop you from taking Plan B or tampering with your birth control, but enough that he finishes inside. Gets way too excited whenever there’s pregnancy rumors and the timelines add up. Gets real cagey if they don’t.
Aunt May has flat out refused to have anyone else be her daughter in law. She loves Peter to pieces but is able to recognize that leaving you was the worst mistake he could’ve made.
When you’re asked about him in interviews and don’t immediately say anything awful about him, he gets hopeful. He really can’t live without you. And you can’t completely cut him off, even though you’ve tried. It’s insane that you’ve known each other most of your lives, and now can’t stand the thought of the other.

Lee Minho + Hwuang Hyunjin = Hyunho
bagelboy
Baby, You’re Kinda Driving Me Crazy (I’m Not One to Need Saving)  *Finished
There are some things everyone just knows. The sky is blue. The earth is round. There are 365 days in a year. Hyunjin hates Minho. Minho hates Hyunjin.(And they are intent on keeping it that way.) (Turns out, the universe has other plans.)
You'll Feel it Kicking in Soon (Are You Falling in Love?)  -NEW
Although Hyunjin prides himself in being able to read people from the inside out, there are moments when his brain somehow fails to put the puzzle pieces together in a way that makes sense. Like right now.“You’ll deny it until the day you die,” she says.“Deny what?"“That something changed,” she replies. “When you met him.”
ChansOtherRoom (MB1000)
The Best Mistake  *Finished
And it was dried (thankfully.) But it still meant that blood was flaking off of the omega for whatever reason. Which could only mean that he had had an open wound at some point during the night. Which- “Holy shit.” Which of course made panic course through him once again. Because why would he have a wound on his neck? Why would- “It looks like a bite mark.” Minho swallowing as he finally moved to sit up. “It looks like a…” But once the alpha’s upper half was fully raised and head no longer buried into the pillows and blankets, Hyunjin’s eyes zeroed on Minho’s neck as well. Before widening at what the omega saw and… “M-Minho…” And there was dried blood coating the alpha’s neck as well. With teeth indents underneath that… “What the fuck happened last night?” That looked like a mating bite. - OR - Hyunjin ends up accidentally mated to the one person he absolutely cannot stand.

need a second to breathe  *Finished -NEW
“Why haven’t you kissed me?” Hyunjin asked again as he took another step into the kitchen. “You’ve… you’ve kissed everyone else in our friend group. Why not me?” Or, the casual questions that Hyunjin asks at a party changes everything for him and Minho. Someone's going to get hurt - spoiler, it isn't Hyunjin. But it's okay - it's totally fine and Minho isn't breaking his own heart by hooking up with someone he most definitely got over his crush on ages ago. Right?

“Have you ever considered collaborating with another streamer?—Uh, never thought about it.”It would break the first rule of this whole thing—revealing his identity. Even if it’s to someone in the same boat as him, someone who likely doesn’t want their face getting leaked any more than he does, it’s still a risk, one Minho doesn’t quite want to take.The chat fills with agreements that he definitely should, even throwing out suggestions.Then someone suggests Honeyjin and the rest latch on.-Or, it's hard to get over your ex when you're fucking the guy that looks just like him.
hyunknow
I loved you then (i'll love you now) *Finished
"Hypothetically speaking," Minho asks, "Say you're immortal and you keep seeing your ex-boyfriend from a hundred years ago, what would you think?" "I'd assume that my ex was also somehow immortal."Or.5 times Minho sees Hyunjin after a hundred years and 1 time he talks to him.
Love Let Me Breathe, Love Let You Remember  *Finished
"Six months." Hyunjin pleads, his hands trembling "Give us six months for Minho to remember me and if I'm still coughing up flowers by then," he swallows thickly and sets his jaw in determination "if he doesn't love me back in six months then we can discuss our options."orMinho loses his memory in a car accident and Hyunjin is determined to regain his love despite the flowers growing in his lungs.
Still Calling For You *Oneshot
Hyunjin makes the mistake of getting a little too drunk at his friend's engagement party.
sofwrites
all these little things  *Oneshot
Something has been different lately; and Minho has really been trying to figure out exactly what it is. How come he misses Hyunjin the second he leaves for another dorm, one without a bedroom for them to share daily? Why does he find himself at a loss for words more often than not in Hyunjin's presence, when he's never been this tongue-tied before? And for what reason does he find himself spending more time alone with Hyunjin now, when he's really had all the chances in the world for years?or; Minho falls in love without really noticing. The object of his affection certainly does, on the other hand.
fingers crossed that you don't scar me for life, that you don't kill the stars in my eyes, 'cause i really, really want you and i-- *Finished  Hyunjin wants to snort at the idiocy of it all - the premise, the set-up, the fact that they’re all here and intending to participate - but thankfully, he refrains. Instead, he’s reminded of how tonight will be the last night he and Changbin can spend together in almost a month, because after this they will be staying in separate rooms while they all date around for five days.After that, there’s going to be some kind of ceremony where they get paired up with someone who isn’t their own partner, and proceed to live with this essential stranger for three weeks before having to make the choice of whether they want to pursue something with the stranger, whether they want to return to their original partner and marry them, or whether both relationships will end and Hyunjin will go home by himself to start all over again.* * *“I’m not sure who the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with is yet,” Hyunjin declares, watching Minho’s eyebrows climb higher in surprise, “but I’m pretty sure about the next few weeks.”
he didn't mean to seduce him (the first time)  *Oneshot
Hyunjin didn’t mean to seduce Minho the first time. He swears.
if love is blind, and i love you, then why bother with rose-tinted glasses?  *Finished
In which Hwang Hyunjin and a bunch of strangers are thrown head-first into the latest reality dating show where they're supposed to a) find and b) get engaged to the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with. The twist? The participants have no idea what their dates look like.or; "If someone had told me before this that I would be saying what I am now, I don’t think I would have believed them. I told you you changed me. Within minutes, as if it were that easy."
love is a masterpiece, but you never cared for art, did you *Finished
"Do you understand? There are other people, there are things I've always known and have been comfortable with, and then, Hwang Hyunjin... Then there's you."
unfinished business: in my mind you're always mine  *Finished
“So…,” Hyunjin eventually murmurs, stealing Minho’s attention in a heartbeat. “At what point do we tell them that we dated for two years?”“After cashing the check,” Minho replies.“Deal,” Hyunjin says quietly.Minho shivers. He never fully understood the meaning of making deals with the Devil before this exact moment.
want nothin' on me but you  *Oneshot
“Good,” Hyunjin tells him, gentle words and touches all over Minho’s body as it trembles with the pleasure coursing through him. “There we go. My silly alpha. You gotta breathe for me.”“I’m trying,” Minho mumbles, or something like it, and sighs in relief when Hyunjin presses a heavy kiss to his lips so Minho doesn’t have to remember his words anymore.
want you (to want me again)  *Oneshot
“I’m not nervous,” he responds instead over his roommate’s coughing. “I can’t remember the last time I was nervous. Hopefully it’ll either go well or straight to hell, as long as it’s entertaining. If this guy turns out to be a boring ass prick, I might leave before dinner even arrives.”“Minho, he’s not a boring ass prick. Do you think I would set you up with a boring ass prick?”
what's that saying about keeping friends close but enemies closer? (asking for a... friend)  *Oneshot
“Look which doorstep you showed up on,” Minho mutters, hesitantly crouching to get a better look at the semi-familiar face that has sneered at him so many times before. It isn't right now. “This is a first. I know you're obsessed with me, bug, but bothering me when I’m literally minding my own business is another level even for you.”It seems Jiniret hasn't lost consciousness completely, even though he sags against the wall. There’s a small huff from his dry lips and flicker of his closed eyes, and then nothing, as if Minho imagined it.“Close,” Jiniret breathes, as if speaking is an effort and enunciating his syllables almost impossible. “You're close. ‘Couldn’t… couldn’t make it anywhere else.”

Venomous Love ~hyunho  -NEW
It's the typical Enemies to Lovers story, flavored by yours truly.Raised in the same neighborhood and social circle, Minho and Hyunjin know each other far too well. Both families are well-known chaebols with deep roots in the South Korean economy. Their successes are crucial to the country.Being the only sons and heirs of multibillion-dollar companies, they are raised to hate the Lees or the Hwangs. Whenever they cross paths, they take every opportunity to humiliate or destroy the other. This ends most of the time in a fight because the only way they feel like winning.. is by using their own strength. Something money can't control.Lee and Hwang are obsessed to get under each other's skin, making them blind to see what is fueling the said obsession.Lee is 27 and Hwang 26.

CHAPTER FOUR: ETHELLE & INFIDELITY
❃゜・。. ・°゜✼ ゜°・ . 。・゜❃
Louis
And so, after all the chaos and grand game of pretending, our fates were sealed. The book is written, closed, and packed away for all to see at a later date, preserved for future generations to witness this travesty over and over. Much like the way a batting club beats into a human skull.
The words I utter under my breath are the same ones I spoke moments ago, but instead of being the center of attention, I am perched high above. And I wonder if this is what it looks like from my father's view.... or rather down below. Regardless, now the festivities are truly to begin. It is long past the times of day, now the night crawls like a monster on the prowl...the red-hot sunset blazing into everyone's lazy, dull eyes.
From above, most people do look happy...whether it be the champagne or the adrenaline from another successful rejuvenation of a school year. This school almost seems everlasting...every year it lives and dies, lives a million times, and none at all, all at once. Its celebrated, coated with streams of flashing lights and fireworks...and praised on the tippy top of every mountaintop.
And if there's one thing, I would question about it all...is what makes it so grand?
That's exactly what I plan to find out this year, if I can bear it, if I can survive.
A sour taste coats my mouth, and a gentle wind coasts through my hair....an odd, gentle thing, for a violent scary event. I hum, wishing away the day with every tick of the grand clock that lays above the school, and every dip of the sun, eclipsing into the coast of the nearby Elles sea.
From way above, somewhere, someone shoots off bright yellow- no- golden fireworks overhead. Despite my place perched on a balcony of the school, high above the courtyard where all the festivities stir and spin below. Even up here I cannot escape the hum, the thrill, the drum, the motor that keeps this thing going.
It chatters my teeth, forces my eyes into slits. The. Noise.
My heart thumps away at it, my ribs, that is. Excited by the thrill and all but terrified all at once. Even up here, people still gather in groups, gulping down wine and champagne like water and swinging and swaying like an oceanic feeling, a dreamscape. To...somewhere.
While everyone is bright and sunny, I stay cloudy, like an ever-greyer cloud hangs over my head...regret and resolve flood my system and corrupt it, corrupt me. Those words, they still swim everywhere, my bloodstream, my brain, my tongue.
Or......maybe that's just the oxygen, I remark. It is awful thin up here.
Before I can think a moment more, a familiar voice springs to life in the background, causing me to flip around instantly at the sound of it. The prince of this cursed land, the jester in this stupid fucking parade.
Harry Edward Styles, Prince of Elles.
"Lonely?" He remarks dryly and stands next to me, invading my space for what feels like the umpteenth time since we've met.
"Just fine, thanks." I bite back harshly as he chuckles, eating up the reaction like a fire would oxygen.
"Hm," he says, supposedly thinking, but his dull, yet eccentric green eyes don't betray a single emotion, yet again.
"Well...a little birdie told me they've decided the dorm rooms for the year, and roommates...as well." He says, attempting to bait me and egg me on to ask more, pertaining to what he's talking to.
"A little birdie, more like a crow," I remark, snickering to myself a little, referring to his mother...who else would tell him such insider school information? "besides, who could be your roommate?" I ask, drawling out the last part of my sentence haphazardly, in an uncaring way.
"A prince, obviously." He remarks, as if it was the juiciest piece of information in the world...the Styles' were always known for their dramatic, their deep lore, hungry eyes, and conniving ways. Oh...how, it irked me, deeply.
"Specifically, you." He finishes, as my eyes go wide for a split second, but quickly return to their dull gaze, masking my shock and care for the events of the future of this year.
It was a trivial thing, really. Being hotheaded over the fact you had to spend your private time away from the prying eyes of the public practically in the veins of the person you'd loathed the most. A childish thing, as a royal to wish to bleed yourself dry for a cause you don't believe in.
Only, and only because of the generational scam of the crown...the rat race for power, breadcrumbs of ecstasy from the gold and glitz. Whether it be because we were all born into tis faraway land of dreams that should never exist.
Or because we were born hungry, born hungry for something impossible to humanly grasp. Hungry for the sickening feeling between hunger and fullness, the in-between.
And to stay there, tucked in a cocoon of greedy hands that grab for your skin like it was laced with gold, or to be imprisoned in a crown that wrapped around your head like a cage.
A cage for your mind, that dreamland that let most people escape in the nightfall, was missing somehow from the ones that were supposed to be 'handpicked', the god's favorites. Made to be crafted of every color of lucky, special, chosen.
Maybe the gods were colorblind.
Regardless of it all, the words I promised to the crown of Ethelle were already feeling like a tattoo branded on my skin, reminding me of my ultimate mistake. I could not go back on what I am now, or, who I am now. The mistake is now evermore, for some higher power, some greater force. And now, I can only all but wish for better days that will bleed into both of our upcoming reigns.
But, hoping for things to change begins to grow thin, like the cold days of whirlwind October and unforgiving November. Hope begins to thread loose like the last days of an old hound dog dreaming of the days when he was a pup.
I would stand by and wait for the end of it all, if only I did not have to participate in this grand tragedy, but unfortunately, I'm front and center. And Harry and I are the main attractions...but that begs the question; in the end, who will be the villain and the hero? Despite our countries pasts, we are all but two people, separate entities and linked, fused with the choices of our family blood.
Bonded for life, bonded until our last breath, until the end of a cursed eternal reign, or death.
I can only hope that the end will be swift, like cruel wool being swept over my head for the final time. And then deafening silence will truly reign supreme forevermore. For royals, the weight of the crown is grandiose on your life, one tip of it risks flight or fall, life or death.
Is the glint of the circlet always going to reign true? I cannot be sure of the fates that have not sprawled out haphazardly against the pages of time. But one thing for sure, when you're at the height of success, the tip of hierarchy, the fall from it can be fatal.
The ground is beginning to shake beneath us, and it rattles deep to our bone.
The magic of the entire charm school breaking out in celebration of another successful year helps to coat the bitter ache that threatens to rise within my throat. I trail Harry's ambiguous presence down the hall he leads me around as if it was a separate being entirely. Somehow, constantly intertwined with him, and it very well may be.
My findings of Harry's strange behavior away from the public and in the grasps of is Direnian lover or me is vastly different. It sometimes leaves my mind feeling as if I'm conducting a science experiment on him, or at least a psychological evaluation. Perhaps he puts on a mask and charades, to appear as the perfect prince. Or maybe, he's somehow beginning to trust me...little by little.
Now, that would be simply ridiculous. We are enemies, foes, and no matter what crosses I mark on my heart, paint my blood the color he desires, I will never truly be part of Elles.
Because in my heart, and mind, letting the boy king of sorts into my mind is asking for a headache. And it's accepting defeat, giving up the righteous vitriol of hatred I hold so dear. Like the acid from my explosion of chemicals whenever he's added to it...fizzles out. And that can simply never be done. But I fear the reason for the combustion of my heart and my sickly heroism is because he is so deeply ingrained within me.
Everything I am and everything he is has always been meant to intertwine, and not in the way it was previously thought. The pages of my story have never been planned meticulously, since my father's death my dreams of kinghood have always been scattered astray between fancy arrays of glasses with swirled design filled a bit with scotch and lonely night's in his studies.
Or maybe, something a bit heavier, something crystallized. Everyone knows at institutions like these, the heavier the drug, the better. Especially at parties...like the school autumn ball.
Tonight, will be donned and coated with glitter of all colors, gowns and masquerade masks and flowing drinks and bloodstreams streaked golden with the miracle wonder drugs.
Cocaine.
Royals of all kinds, no matter the status always seem to get mixed up in the fast paced way of the underbelly of high society parties.
Designated as proper, but really, with a glass in our hands we are no better than a dirty commoner. At our euphoric heights is when we fall from grace, always face first into the cool, harsh feel of reality.
In the presence of all the beauty and elegance in the world, is when our crowns begin to turn molten and melt, dripping onto us and coating us in our own self preserved richness.
Although, in the height of it all, our true colors show, and the colors the gods painted us begin to fade to grey, our angelic wings begin to crumple into dust.
The hierarchy is no better than sickly teens in crisis, with enough morphine to shock our systems to their core.
I wonder what will be the star of my bloodstream tonight, I have a feeling it'll be Harry sending me to euphoric heights and rotting my blood all the same.
He runs through me constantly, all I've meant to be, all I've been raised up to has always been; beat him, demolish his kingdom, bleeding him dry.
But Harry.... has been set out from the very beginning. Not to be the best and beat someone else, but simply to shine naturally as he was always made to be. I know one thing, though, shiny surfaces reveal terrifying monsters in their reflections. When I see who he truly is, I will shatter him, bone for bone.
The Styles' are made that way, born that way. Calculated, sure, perfect, nonchalant, virtually unimpressed to anything but the glint in their eyes. At the age of twenty he is to be crowned king; he will take hold of his country in a vice grip tighter than the hold of any true king should ever be.
He's afraid of slipping. You don't keep things tight to your being, close to your heart unless you are afraid of losing them. He keeps me close, close enough to kill, I add. But what if...he was afraid of losing me.
No. No, no, no. He is afraid of losing this life, this power, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me. Oh, gods above, please paint me a different color, I no longer wish to be godly if it means being in the clutches of wanting of that beast.
He wants your power, your blood. Unite with him, intertwine, or die.
Oh. That's where I will catch him.
I smirk to myself like a thief in the dead of night making away with a diamond and other sorts of bountiful treasures. Harry, instantly flashes in my mind as we make it to our dorm room, room 328. He's afraid to fall, afraid to fail...its not like him its not within him...or could it be?
My mind stumbles over the words and theories like meteors of malicious, delicious, twisted delight that fall down from the sky's of retribution. As if they were physical obstacles in my way, I stumble outwardly myself...as he looks at me peculiarly.
"Please do try not to die on your way there." He says sarcastically, his eyes quickly flitting up and down my frame and then he scoffed carelessly and opened the door.
Inside was a grand room that looked more like a castle's guest room, more than a dorm room. But, then again Elles was one of the richest countries in the world, tied between Direnia and Lorxix. Walking through the room as the servants immediately bow to Harry and begin placing our bags in our respective bedrooms, somewhere far down the well-lit hall with opulent lamps hinged onto the crème walls of the room. I was almost astonished with the lux aura of it all.
After all, all my life I'd thought Styles' were nothing but savages, covered in countless ill-aging eras of bated breath and stealing artifacts from iconic reigns and legacies and painting them as their own. But, even for my sworn enemy, the dorm rooms do look oddly fantastic.
But Harry was oddly separate from his predecessors in some way. And I was determined to figure that out. He was true to his name and color to his blood, but his demeanor was all but flipped when it came to ruling royally in the spotlight, he tended to shy away. Unlike his mother and his sister, Queen Anne and Princess Gemma, they bathed in the royal life as if it was sunlight feeding their life force itself.
And Harry simply shied away as if he was a vampire hiding from light on the dark side of the moon. But, somehow hidden between those half-lidded eyes, cryptic messages and cutthroat threats was a tiny sleeping dream, that only fluttered and stirred, never fully awakening.
Locked deep in his heart, was again, a tiny soft spot of hope for all of Ethelle. For all of me, and hopefully so, all of him as well. Because whatever darkness he has failed to cover and exposed part of his heart to the gaps and gasps of light, it has been prodded at like an exposed flesh wound. Nerves raw and unwinding with every jab.
That, I can tell.
If you look at him the right way, it'll shine through, but not like golden daylight, like a reflection of a person in the glint of a silver knife. Poised, perfect, calculated, and sure. But most of all, crazed.
But all so...vulnerable all at once. And part of me wonders why the presumed perfect prince keeps part of his most valuable asset revealed in small snatches of glimpses that only few get to see.
Who knows, maybe I am sorely mistaken, and it is yet another gaping hole of a bottomless pit of princely evil. Or maybe there is no weakness in him, only hardened steel disguised as silver silk, thought to be rare, expensive in its own right, and soft to the touch.
The prince could be simply bating me, waiting for me to fall face first into his hardened interior and to find... nothing of use. Nothing to poke or prod or study...a cold, dead heart. Much like both of our fathers. Their blood ran cold almost a full decade ago, yet the fire of my rage still burns bright within me.
I'm unsure on if I should act in this very moment. Or hold back and wait until the right moment. On one hand, my rebellion wants to charge in, fists bare without weapons and tear down his kingdom and legacy with my own hands.
On the other hand, I want to wait, and watch him slowly decay and rot like a long-standing tree. And ill-fated unrighteous death, one he should have. But I am very unsure if he will have it. Fate has been very good to him, and I will forever be in wonder of the horrors he seems to evade.
Its like he's the anti-charm, flitting away the negatives with more negatives so much they just...bounce off of him. I always wait on bated breath for cracks of the underworld to emerge from within this twisted town.
Or maybe, we are the underworld, this is the peak, the climax. With the magnolia sunsets, money galore and princess blushing wherever you turn lay the underbelly. With hot sweltering blood orange, maroon-y conclusions, money lust and everyone with daggers underneath their sheen of pretentious heights.
In this world, in this town we wear masks. Despite our golden gleam. And despite it all our unpleasantries are easy to find, and even easier to exploit.
But still, that ever-permanent curiosity gnaws away at me, and I'm convinced that it wants me dead. With all of the changes of hearts, and the new beginning's being forged together and written in permanent ink by the second.
Could his heart change? Could mine? Could the sands of time form so many significant promises for a future, that it washes away our past completely?
A/N: Hello everyone, i hope you enjoyed the chapter. I honestly am SO SORRY it took me forever to update this, i have had the chapter done for maybe a week or so? i just couldn't find the words to write for the author's note, and i feel like they're really important so i just decided to wait until i was ready.
moving on from that, what did you all think of the chapter? Do you think Louis is softening his ice-cold idea of harry as the son of his father's murderer, or does he distrust him even more?
also, how do you think the ball will go? what do you think will happen?
as always, i'll see you in the next chapter
ALSO PSA: i changed my username to stylezxsilvermoon, so i'l be addressing everyone as that from now on.
i really hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, and are excited for chapter five, i hope i can get chapters out faster from now on. i really want to finish this book in a timely fashoin so it can be consistent and enjoyable to read. as well as enjoyable to write so i dont lose momentum and motivation.
all the love, forevermore stylezsilvermoon (previously louiscarrotsxoxo)
ps. i did a slightly shorter chapter because the last chapter was SOOO long, i think i might do that after i have longer chapters from now on...or maybe i'll do short-long for every chapter? i have no idea

** to celebrate Eddie’s graduation, you dress up like one of the ladies on the cover of ‘Heavy Metal’ magazine. **
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’ve spent months getting this costume together. MONTHS. You bought some pieces, you’ve had to make some pieces but finally the ensemble’s ready. Just in time for Eddie’s graduation.
He’s been looking forward to seeing the surprise you have in store for him. He hasn’t been able to loosen your lips at all about it, so it’s a total surprise for him. And he couldn’t be more excited.
Eddie lays back on his bed at the trailer, lighting up a cigarette while he waits for you to come out of the other room. You brought a duffle bag of stuff over and insisted on changing in Wayne’s room because apparently you need ‘space’ for this surprise outfit.
He takes a long drag off his cigarette and unfortunately, he does it at the same time you push the door open and step into his bedroom. He immediately chokes on the smoke in his lungs, cigarette nearly dropping right out from between his teeth when he looks at you.
You’re dressed exactly like the woman on the fall 1984 Heavy Metal magazine cover. One of his favorite covers. You smirk softly as he coughs, trying to re-compose himself.
“Jesus H. Christ -- fuck -- where’d you...how did you...?” he doesn’t even know what question to ask first, all the blood suddenly rushing from his head down to more important parts. “Oh my god baby, you look...”
“Just like your favorite Heavy Metal cover? Believe it, baby.” You walk up to his bed, still wearing a smirk.
He’s been stunned into silence. Eddie Munson is not a man easily rendered speechless, but you’ve certainly done it with this outfit.
“Fuck,” he breathes, quickly stubbing out his cigarette and lunging forward, pulling you flush against him. “Get the fuck over here before I jizz in my goddamn pants.”
You pull him down and press your lips firmly to his, giving his hair a firm tug. His hips buck forward instinctively and he groans into your mouth, hands traveling straight down to your ass. He gives it a firm squeeze, then pushes you back suddenly, watching you gasp and fall back onto the bed with a small smirk.
“All the times I’ve fantasized about you, Princess,” he says, and you shudder. He’s talking about you as if you’re the character. He walks over to the wall, to the hook that’s holding his pair of cuffs. “I’ve imagined doing three things. Do you wanna guess what those three things are?”
As you go to answer him, he grabs the cuffs and walks back up to you slowly. You swallow. “Put me in handcuffs? Fuck me? And, I don’t know, fuck my face?”
“Mmm. Some good guesses.” He leans down and gives you a kiss. “Two out of three.”
Eddie lunges forward suddenly, climbing on top of you and pinning your hips between his knees. He grabs your wrists and quickly cuffs you to the headboard, then sits back, humming softly.
“Look at you, Princess, all cuffed up and at my mercy.”
“Let me go.” You tug at the cuffs half-heartedly, chewing the inside of your cheek. “Please, sir...”
“No,” he says. “You’re gonna lay here and you’re gonna take whatever I give you.”
A soft whine slips past your lips as you squirm under him.
“You...you cannot speak to me like that.”
He smirks, then grabs your jaw, giving it a firm squeeze. “I can do anything I want with you, Princess. You’re the one in handcuffs. Remember your place.”
You say nothing as he shakes your head a bit before letting go and dismounting in order to start undressing. He’s watched with hungry eyes as he does so. He grunts, desperately fighting with his jeans to get them open. “Fuck me...goddamnit, these stupid things...”
He yanks them down along with his boxers, then takes his hardened length into his hand, beginning to stroke himself while he lets himself fully take you in.
“You walk around in that s-slutty ensemble, teasing me, driving me fuckin’ nuts and you expect me not to do anything about it?” he growls, jaw tight. “You expect me not to have you like this?”
“I-I...”
Eddie climbs back onto the bed and hovers over you, hand dipping between your legs, fingers tracing your slit. Your hips jerk and you draw a sharp breath as his finger pads circle over your sensitive bud.
“Already so wet, huh?” He grins. “You want this, don’t you? God, you’re soaked...”
Your hips buck up softly, seeking more friction as you grow more sensitive. He hums, leaning down to kiss and suck gently on your breasts where they’re exposed in the deep v of your top.
While you’re focused on his mouth, two of his fingers suddenly slip through your hole and enter your waiting cunt. You gasp in surprise, back lifting up off the mattress.
“Eddie--”
“Master.” He says, curling his digits up in order to rub against the sensitive spot inside you. “It’s Master tonight, Princess.”
You shudder, nodding. “Yes, Master.”
Eddie groans under his breath. God, it’s even hotter than he imagined, having you call him that...
“Good girl.”
His fingers move in and out of your wetness quickly, not even giving you the chance to adjust to his thick digits. You’re a moaning, whiny mess within seconds, his fingers fucking you just the right way and at just the right angle.
“Mmm fuck, Master...” you moan softly. “Shit...”
His teeth sink into the skin of your breast just as his fingers curl up again, vigorously rubbing the spongey spot inside you. You groan, eyes rolling back in your head as your hips begin to jerk up.
Your orgasm comes rather quickly and just as you’re about to cum, he pulls away. You let out the most pathetic whimper at the loss, looking up at him while catching your breath.
“Why’d you--”
“If you’re gonna cum, it’s gonna be on your Master’s cock,” he whispers in your ear, kissing that spot just behind it. “I just wanted to make sure you were ready to take me, Princess.”
You chew your lip, nodding. “Yes, Mas--oh!”
He suddenly fills you, hips thrusting his cock deep inside you. You moan loudly, fingernails digging into your palms, jaw slightly ajar. His hips begin to roll, quickly speeding up until he’s pounding you into the mattress.
“Fuck yes, love this little pussy, mmmm...”
His head tilts back for a moment, a guttural groan rumbling deep within his chest. One hand grabs and holds your hip, the other reaches up to wrap around your throat, squeezing gently.
“Tighten for me, really hold my cock, Princess...ahh, there we go. W-What a good girl.” He groans, letting out a shaky breath as he fucks you. “Mmm, so tight...”
You clench around him as tightly as you can, although you get tired rather quickly. You switch to more of a rhythmic pattern, on and off, on and off...
It’s driving him crazy, pushing him closer and closer to his climax. You’re also getting close after only a couple minutes, still super sensitive from his fingers. He seems to feel this, feels your walls spasming around him, and he fucks you even harder.
Eddie grabs your ankles and throws your legs over his shoulder, then leans down a bit, forcing your legs down against your torso. This position allows him to reach deep, deep inside you while also making things a little snugger for his throbbing shaft.
As soon as he starts tickling your clit with his well-groomed pubic hairs, you’re sent right over the edge. Your hips tweak erratically, eyes rolled back and jaw slacked.
“M-Master! Ohhh Master, ‘m coming!!”
His jaw clenches, trying to hold back his orgasm while fucking you through yours. He groans and growls lowly as he fucks you through your high, then his orgasm hits with a shattering intensity.
“Christ...!” he moans loudly, gasping with each sharp pump of his hips. “J-Jesus H. Christ, Princess...fuck...”
Feeling his warm cum paint your insides is a feeling you’ll never grow tired of. You sigh softly and let your body relax, arms a little numb from being forced over your head for such a long period of time. Your legs feel like Jell-o, trembling as Eddie pulls out slowly and kisses you while undoing your cuffs.
He presses his lips to each of your sore, tingly wrists. You reach up and run your hands through his sweaty hair, smiling up at him.
“Happy graduation, Eddie.”

Prompt: Instead of shattering Dad Nie's saber to kill his pride, he shatters Baxia - and thus Nie Mingjue. What better way to punish a man who dared to think anything of his could rival Wen Ruohan? Only, Nie Mingjue survives... and Baxia does too. Of course, sharing Nie Mingjue's body, neither of them is quite the same...
Curse-breaker (Chapter 1/4)
- ao3 -
"I see," Wen Ruohan said, his teeth slightly gritted, his irritation plain and obvious for all to see. "Indeed, I must concede that Sect Leader Nie's saber is finer than the one I own; it is undeniable. Lao Nie, your saber."
He offered it back, plainclothes-wrapped hilt first.
"You do my sect honor," Sect Leader Nie said with a wide grin, accepting the saber. "Our sabers are indeed the finest – and more than that, they get better with each generation. To tell you the truth, my friend: this one isn't mine, but my son's!"
He revealed the hilt, not anything like his own, and laughed, delighted by the joke he had played.
Wen Ruohan’s face contorted, growing pale in what everyone assumed was rage.
It was only later that Lao Nie, at least, recognized that it had been horror.
-
Nie Mingjue was screaming, and had not stopped screaming.
His throat was rent all to pieces, his fingers bloody from clawing at his own flesh, his eyes rolling around in his head as if by some inescapable fit -
"It's a qi deviation," one of the elders said. "Induced by the breaking of his saber. We should take him to the tombs."
"Fuck off," Lao Nie told them, as if saying the words would deny the truth. "He's too young!"
He put himself between them and his son.
"You shouldn't have let him take up the saber so young," the elder persisted, as if it had been Nie Mingjue’s fault that his son’s saber had been shattered by a man a century older than him, and all because of a dispute that had nothing to do with him. "You shouldn't have shown it to others, left it unguarded -"
"Do you think I don't know that?!" Lao Nie roared, abruptly pushed beyond his limits. "Do you think that I don't already regret...!"
He regretted. Oh, how he regretted!
He had not regretted a single thing in his life since the day his father had told him that he would one day die, and how. Even back then, he had swallowed down the regret without choking on it: he had accepted it, understood it, and resolved to live the life he had left to him to the utmost. What good, he had reasoned, would regret do? Would it win him a single additional day of life? Would it wring out a single ounce of additional joy from the days he did have?
There was no point in regret.
Whether that was the right decision or not, he didn’t know, but it was the one he made, and he stuck with it.
His whole life, Lao Nie had been reckless and carefree even by the already low standards of his family. He was always indulging in familiar pleasures and searching for new experiences, doing whatever he could to excite a palate already starting to grow jaded. He broke hearts as easily as he won them, and had what even he admitted was the worst taste in partners imaginable, attracted as he was to danger and death as if to an old and much-beloved friend. He laughed at the idea of risk or consequences, taking care only for his sect, which he loved; everything else was negotiable, or so he'd thought. He'd scared the wits out of most of his family time and time again, and - perhaps as recompense - had grown his first grey hair dozens of years too early. To this day, he still didn't know whether the reason everyone called him Lao Nie so often that even he thought of himself that way was because they were genuinely fond of him, because of the premature black-and-white mix of his hair, or perhaps just as some unspoken prayer that he finally get over himself and grow up.
If it was the last, it hadn’t worked. Even as he’d gotten older, he hadn’t changed one bit.
The only thing that had changed was that he’d finally found something he loved more than his sect.
He loved his children.
He loved his children, whether the righteous and too-serious Mingjue with his secret penchant for tears or the flippant and carefree Huaisang who was lazier than a slug in the sun. He loved them and he, unlike his father before him, did not burden them over-early with knowledge that would only be an itch under their skin that slowly drove them mad.
He loved them.
And now one of them was dying – because of him.
"You should take him to the tombs," the elder said, and ignored the crash of the chair Lao Nie threw at their head. "You let him become a man of our sect, Lao Nie. Do him the honor of letting him die as one.”
“You…!”
“Or do you think you are being kind, leaving him like this?"
Lao Nie looked down at his son, his Mingjue, the baby he’d held in his arms and the toddler he’d taught to walk and the child he’d chased and the teenager he’d taught the saber. His boy, who was thrashing wildly on the bed, spitting up foam along with blood and weeping uncontrollably.
"A-die," Nie Mingjue whimpered, just as he had when he'd been younger and caught in the throes of fever or breaking a bone through his own misadventures. Tears streamed endlessly down his eyes, his brave little boy who was not-so-secretly a bit of a crybaby. "A-die, a-die, it hurts..."
Lao Nie closed his eyes in pain.
He regretted.
But it was too late now to regret.
"We'll take him to the tombs," he finally conceded, and for the first time in his life he truly felt old. "Just let me say goodbye."
-
If you go to the tombs, you will not come out.
Nie Mingjue might only be a child, thirteen or fourteen years old – he couldn’t remember clearly any longer which it was – but he had been a good student before that, reading faithfully through his sect’s histories and listening to his teachers. He knew enough to read between the lines, to reckon the subtle indications and the not-so-subtle hints: he knew, even before he’d been officially told, what it was that he faced down at the end of the road that his ancestors had built for him to walk.
The early death – the painful death – the silent tombs –
There had been so many whispers when he’d taken up his Baxia too early. How could he not know?
His father hadn’t wanted him to know, though. So he hadn’t said anything, and pretended he didn’t.
(Huaisang could be ignorant for real, he’d thought to himself. It’d be okay if he didn’t know.)
If you go to the tombs, you will not come out. You cannot go to the tombs!
Nie Mingjue opened his eyes.
He no longer screamed, even though the spiritual energy that had once felt rich and nourishing and strong now felt like corrosive acid scouring his veins, burning him from the inside out – it wasn’t that he didn’t want to, wasn’t still compelled too; it was only that he had screamed too much, wearing out his voice down to nothingness from overuse.
If I go to the tombs, I will not come out, he thought, dimly aware that something wasn’t right. Thinking was hard, and grew ever harder: the qi deviation, for that was what it was, was worsening, not getting better.
Would not ever get better.
His Baxia, his loyal saber filled to the brim with resentful energy, had shattered. Shattered, and now all that resentful energy that she had collected for herself had flooded back into him, drowning his brain in rage and madness.
Flooding him with – Baxia.
I cannot go to the tombs.
You cannot go to the tombs, Baxia agreed – at least, he thought it was Baxia. It might be himself: he could no longer tell the difference.
She’d shattered, and he’d shattered, too. His mind and his body and his meridians and his golden core: everything was in pieces. His spiritual energy was running the wrong way, twisting him up inside, hurting instead of helping – the rage and resentful energy wasn’t going into Baxia but coming back into him, and it was poison.
There was no fixing it. His ancestors had tried everything they could: brought in the finest physicians with their needles and their clever ideas, sought out mysterious techniques and strange geniuses that played games even with their golden cores, even tried out demonic cultivation to see if it would help – with their lives and their children’s lives at stake, was there anything they wouldn’t do?
As if it would be that easy.
As if the road to death taken time and time again over the generations could be so easily evaded.
Nie Mingjue was a Nie. He had had a qi deviation. He was going to die.
But he was young, too.
Too young.
They all said that’d he formed his core at an extraordinary young age, and he had, too, verifiable evidence of his unusual genius for cultivating – only a golden core formed too early wasn’t quite the same as one done in the usual way at the usual time. It’d formed all right, all the spiritual liquid flowing through his meridians condensing into a shining solid sphere in his dantian, but it was still a little gummy in comparison to the normal ones. It had to be. He’d formed the core before he’d reached adolescence, without any of the necessary hormones running through his body; if his golden core was as fully solid as most adults, he’d be stuck at the age and size he was at when the core was first formed.
Normally, all this meant was that his foundation would be a little unstable for the first few years, just until he got old enough, and only when he was finally at his proper age would it truly settle into place along with his body, growing firm and solid and far more powerful than all the rest.
But he’d never gotten the chance to grow that old.
Nie Mingjue’s core had cracked when his saber that had been fundamentally tied to it had shattered, but unlike the steel of the saber it was still more fluid than solid. Even as the corrosive resentful energy burned him, even as the spiritual energy rioted within him, his old instincts were still there, that subconscious genius for cultivating already at work, trying to force the spiritual energy to run through him, trying to put those broken pieces back together. For any normal Nie, the greater his talent, the faster he’d be driven mad, but for Nie Mingjue, those gummy pieces of his core, sticky and still fluid, were instead being soldered together using spiritual energy and resentful energy both, and unlike the stiff and brittle solidity of the golden core of adulthood, they were still flexible enough to stick together – to coalesce into a whole once more.
Only –
Nie Mingjue opened his eyes.
He’d already opened them once, and now he opened them again. The world as he had always recognized it, he saw through his left eye – but through his right, there was a whole new world.
It was a world of black and white, of good and evil, a world of kinetic movement, of steel and rage incarnate…the world through the perception of a saber spirit. A saber spirit who had shattered when her steel was shattered, shattered when her master’s core was shattered, and whose pieces were even now integrating interchangeably with her master’s pieces into a single indissoluble whole.
If we go to the tombs, they thought, and now that was it, that was right, we will not come out.
Well, that was simple enough to fix.
They just wouldn’t go to the tombs.
-
“What do you mean, he’s gone?” Nie Huaisang’s father hissed. “He can’t be – he wasn’t in any state – he couldn’t have just gotten up and run away – no, stop, let’s go. I don’t want Huaisang hearing.”
Nie Huaisang hated it when his father remembered to be discreet around him.
His da-ge was never discreet, he thought, pouting. If anything, that was something his father often complained about, even if he would be chuckling all the while: that Nie Mingjue had all the tact of a lady boar in full charge, riled up in defense of her children, and with about as much care for anything that did not meet his stringent expectations of justice and fairness – which was rather a lot.
Where was his da-ge, anyway? Nie Huaisang hadn’t seen him in days, not since he went out on that night hunt with their father. He’d asked his nurse about it, because it was unusual for his brother not to come play with him once he’d returned, and she’d said that he’d gotten sick and couldn’t come to see him just yet. But surely it was long enough that he’d be better already!
Nothing could keep his big brother down for long.
Decided, Nie Huaisang hopped up and headed outside, planning to go find his brother. His brother would explain what was going on, simplifying things down until even a little kid like him could get it, and he wouldn’t make Nie Huaisang feel stupid for needing that simplification.
His brother thought Nie Huaisang was smart.
Nie Huaisang walked along the railing next to his window, teetering back and forth with his hands outstretched for balance – his brother had showed him this pathway long ago, telling him that he could use it when he wanted to sneak out go play or look at birds, or even just come to find him whenever he had nightmares.
His brother wasn’t in his rooms, though.
Nie Huaisang sighed. Maybe he was in the study, or the training field, or something like that, but if Nie Huaisang tried to go there, he’d be dragged into lessons or training as well, and he didn’t want that.
He decided to go look at birds instead.
His brother had come up with a secret path to the outside that only they knew, the two of them, one that led them all the way out into the forest where the really interesting birds were. It was close enough to home that it was still safe, still within the bounds of the Unclean Realm’s protective arrays, but far enough to feel unburdened by the presence of their elders.
Nie Huaisang went to look at birds, but it wasn’t birds he found.
“…who’s there?” he asked, seeing movement in the bushes – something too large to be a bird, too small to be a bear, too two-legged to be a boar or a dog. Whoever it was, they were breathing hard, as if they’d run too far, interspersed with little whines of pain, like they were hurt. “Who are…”
The figure in the bush moved forward.
“…da-ge?”
Nie Huaisang’s big brother didn’t look right. He was crouched down, carrying his body low as if he were trying to support himself and protect his middle at the same time, his fingers digging into the ground for balance – his lips were peeled back from his teeth in something caught between a grimace and a growl. His left eye was normal, but his right was horribly red, shot through with pulsing veins that seemed to bleed into the iris, the color of which had faded from warm golden brown to something more like a slate or steel grey.
He sounded like he was in pain.
His brother was in pain.
Nie Huaisang took a step towards him, deeply concerned, and Nie Mingjue backed away.
“Da-ge,” Nie Huaisang whispered, terrified. “Da-ge, it’s me, it’s Huaisang – I won’t hurt you!”
Nie Mingjue whined, a sound deep in the back of his throat, but this time, when Nie Huaisang stepped forward, he didn’t run. He waited until Nie Huaisang was close before darting forward and nuzzling Nie Huaisang’s hand with his cheek, ducking his head down and letting him touch his hair as if he were a dog.
His brother wasn’t just sick, Nie Huaisang realized. He was reallysick.
“What happened?” he asked, and his brother just looked sad. “You’re leaving, aren’t you?”
His brother nodded. A short jerking motion, barely recognizable, and yet – a nod.
“…do you have to?”
Another nod.
Nie Huaisang’s lip quivered. “Will you be all right?”
His brother nuzzled his palm again. It wasn’t an answer.
Nie Huaisang took a deep breath. “I won’t tell anyone.”
His brother seemed almost to smile.
And then he was gone.
Walking all the way back inside before bursting into tears was the hardest thing Nie Huaisang had ever done in his life, but the worst part was knowing that this was only the beginning.

Your teeth sink into your bottom lip a little harder than they should, it’s starting to feel painful but you don’t even realize. You’re way too fixated on the Instagram post in front of you, swiping through the same four pictures over and over again, crippling anxiety crawling up your spine, clouding your every thought.
Oh how you wish you could say that you’re not the jealous type. Well, in a way, you are not. You don’t think your boyfriend would ever cheat on you or leave you, that’s just not him as a person. Your jealousy roots in your insecurities about your body and it creates more of a confusion in your head about why Harry, your boyfriend of three years is really dating you when he could have anyone, any model or super gorgeous singer, actress out there, yet he settled for… you.
Your thumb swipes across the screen again as you keep staring at the bikini photos Kendall Jenner has recently posted. She is stunning, the perfect model type with her long legs, skinny torso and snatched waist. Hell, she could make you question your sexuality on other days even, but today she is feeding your burning insecurities.
The thought that at one point in life, your boyfriend was with her makes you feel sick, because you are simply nothing like her. In every sense, you are what others like to call curvy, however you often use other terms, some not too nice ones on your worse days. Your hips are wide, holding quite some meat on them, your full thighs never heard of such thing as thigh gaps, not even when you were a kid. Your tummy brings you a headache sometimes when you want to wear something tight, the urge to hide it stronger than your fashion sense. It’s been ages since you last dared to step out of the house without a bra on, your full breasts always need the support if you don’t want them to sit a little lower on your chest than what you prefer. There are rolls, extra skin, stretch marks and all that jazz on your body and has been for a long time. No model looks like this and you are more than aware of that. But if your boyfriend can get any of them, why did he settle for you?
Tears are threatening to roll down your cheeks when you finally close the app and stop staring at Kendall’s perfect body. You ball your hands to stop them from shaking as you make your way to the bathroom in need of some freshening up. The cold water in your face feels nice, but the moment your eyes fall on your reflection you almost cringe at your own sight, as if it’s a reminder of everything you thought about in the past hour.
What is Harry doing with someone like me? The question keeps playing in your head on repeat and you wish you had a relevant answer, but your tainted thoughts keep bringing you back to the same point: He surely will realize it himself and leave me.
You try your best to shake it all off your mind, but it’s not easy. Sitting at the dining table you busy yourself with some work you brought home, hoping the files will keep your wandering thoughts at bay, however the attempt is not quite successful. And then you hear the front door open and close, followed by Harry’s sweet greeting.
“I’m home, baby!” he calls out and you can tell he is in a great mood just from his voice. You force your best fake smile to your lips, not wanting to ruin his mood with your petty party. He walks in, eyes falling on your sitting figure at the table and though you don’t know it, his heart flutters, like always, even after three years together.
Harry is obsessed with you, to say the least. Every little thing about you fascinates him, he loves everything about you, inside and out, just the way you are and he vowed to never stop telling you how much he adorns you.
“Hey there, wha’cha doin’?” he asks, kissing into your hair as he scans over the papers on the table.
“Oh, just… some extra work,” you shrug, chewing on your bottom lip again, the skin is about to break soon for sure.
“Baby, you work too much. Take some time off,” he tells you, shuffling around before he disappears in the bedroom for a moment before reappearing. “Fancy taking a bath with me?” he offers with a cheeky smile.
Bath, for that you’d have to be completely naked in front of him. That cannot happen in this state of mind.
“Um, I want to finish this. Maybe next time,” you tell him with a faint smile.
“You sure? I could massage your shoulders the way you like it so much, we could try that new bath salt we bought.”
“I really want to get this done, H. You just go and enjoy your bath,” you insist, the stern voice catches him a little by surprise.
“Everything alright baby?” His eyebrows pull together as he watches you from across the room.
“Mm, everything is fine. Just… working,” you tell him, eyes on the papers in front of you, pretending like you’re reading the lines, but in reality you have absolutely no idea what the words are saying. You hear him mumble a soft alright before he disappears again, leaving you alone.
A shaky breath leaves your trembling lips once you hear the water running in the bathroom. You bury your face in your palms, feeling so defeated and lost, the only thing that would comfort you would be Harry, but he cannot know what’s been going on in your head. He would never understand the struggle.
These thoughts usually only last for a few days. You always manage to forget about them eventually and return to normality, but not this time. Days turn into weeks and you find yourself sinking deeper into the hole you created for yourself. It starts to effect more parts of your life too. You’re having a hard time sleeping, always waking up several times during the night and sometimes you don’t even fall back asleep after one point. You lose your appetite, your mind tells you that you don’t need the nutritious food, that you need to lose the fat because that’s the only way you can keep Harry. You stop wearing your favorite clothes, always opt for the looser ones that hide every inch of your body and spend way too much time zoned out. You keep catching yourself completely lost in your thoughts during the day, thinking about how Harry might be comparing you to his exes every time he sees you, especially naked.
It’s been long since the last time you were intimate with Harry and you feel so bad for it, but you haven’t been able to bring yourself to bare your body in front of him. You always blew him off with some lame excuse and though there’s a chance he didn’t catch onto whatever was going on, now you know he is suspicious.
And you’re right. Harry notices every little thing, all the changes you’ve been going through. How you leave half your plate uneaten at dinner or how he finds you lying awake next to him in the middle of the night. He also notices how your favorite dresses and shirts remain untouched through the weeks even though you always wear them whenever you have the chance. Instead, he only sees you in big hoodies and loose pants, hiding the delicious curves of your body. But what truly pains him is how you’ve been ignoring all his tries to get close to you, the way you move away from his touch.
The last straw however happens on a Friday afternoon. You are sitting on the couch, mindlessly clicking through Netflix on the TV, trying to find something to watch when Harry is roaming through the cabinets in the bathroom, looking for the lotion he only uses when his skin feels extremely dry. He is going through every drawer and shelf, not finding what he is looking for, but then something odd catches his attention. Some weird named pills are sitting at the back of one of the shelves, hidden behind your perfumes so he hasn’t noticed it, but as he takes it out to have a better look at them, he almost throws them across the room. He has heard of similar pills before, they do more harm than help in weightloss, ruining your digestive system so badly you can actually get way more serious health problems if you use them too long. He frantically tears the box open and see that one third of the pills are gone, meaning that you’ve been taking them for a little while now behind his back.
With the box in his hand, he marches out to the living room where you are still and holding the pills up, he needs everything in him not to flip immediately.
“What the fuck are these?” he grits through his teeth. Your breath gets caught in your throat, he was never supposed to find those, but the cat’s out of the bad and now you can’t think of anything to bring up to your defense, knowing well he very much does not approve these kind of stuff.
“They are… I’m doing a cleanse,” you say, but there’s no use to lie.
“Drinking juice is for cleansing, this shit ruins your body,” he spats, throwing the box to the couch and you bite into your bottom lip, feeling the tears building up already. “Why would you even think about taking these?”
“Why?” you chuckle bitterly, your vision blurry from the tears. “Oh come on, don’t be so oblivious.”
“Y/N, these stuff are dangerous!” his anger turns into despair and concern as he sits beside you on the couch. “Baby, why did you take them?”
“Because I’m desperate, Harry!” you snap at him, the hot tears running down your cheeks. “You have no idea what I go through every fucking day!”
“Then talk to me! I want to know everything, I want to help you!” he pleads, reaching for your hand but you move away from him. “Please talk to me, baby!”
“So you can feed me lies? I’m not naïve, Harry,” you shake your head vigorously.
“What are you talking about?”
“Me! I’m talking about… this,” you growl gesturing at yourself. Harry runs his gaze down your body, but he still can’t figure out what this is about. You look beautiful, you always do in his eyes, he has no idea what the matter is. “I’m not one of your exes and all those models you’ve been rumored to date, Harry.”
“Okay and why is that relevant?”
“Because how am I the right person for someone like you? I’m not skinny, I’m not pretty and I’ll probably never be anything like the girls you dated. Why are you even wasting your time on me?”
By the time you get to the end, your tears are flooding and it breaks Harry’s heart to see you like this. Feeling so unworthy when in his eyes, you deserve everything. You’re perfect.
“I’m not wasting anything on you, baby. Why do you even want to look like them? I love every inch of your beautiful body!”
You flinch at his words. Deep down you know he means them, but there’s this barricade on your mind that tells you he is not serious, that he is only saying those things because he feels like he has to say them, not because he means them. That evil little voice in your head keeps telling you not to believe anything he says.
How could he love your body? How could a man like him be okay with someone like you? He doesn’t want to be with you. He’ll realize it and leave you!
You wish you could turn it off, you wish there was a switch that would shut out all these thoughts, but they just keep coming and coming. Harry watches you break right in front of his eyes and he has no idea what to do, panic is setting in. He feels like a failure that he let you reach this point.
“Baby, I fucking love you. Everything about you. Please don’t feel like you have to change for me. I love you no matter what, I think you are the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen. If you want to change, do it because you want to do it for yourself! You don’t have to change for me!”
He is practically begging, desperate to get you to understand that you’re perfect to him just the way you are, that he is in love with every inch of your beautiful body. He reaches out to your face again and though you move away again and it pains him so much, he still goes through with the action and cups your face in his hand. His clammy palm meets your wet cheek as he turns your head so he can look into your eyes, but you are relentlessly keeping your gaze focused anywhere but him.
You can’t bear looking at him or yourself, you just want to disappear, vanish into nothing, existence right now feels like just too much.
“Love, please look at me,” he quietly begs and you shake your head no. “Please, let me see those beautiful eyes I love so much.”
You wince at his words and try to turn your head away, but he cups the other side of your face with his other hand, keeping it in place. Your eyes are wired shut, you just can’t look at him, it would break you.
Harry is kneeling next to the couch now where you are curled up, your arms wrapped around your knees as you try to hide yourself. You feel so lost, so miserable and you wish he didn’t see you like this.
“I can’t, Harry. I can’t,” you tell him shaking your head vigorously. Part of you feels so stupid for acting like this, but you just can’t help it. It’s not you anymore who is in charge of your mind and actions, you feel more like just a witness who sees herself from the outside and she doesn’t like what she sees, not even a bit.
Harry pushes himself up from the ground and takes the thick blanket from the back of the couch, draping it over you as he shimmies himself next to you, arms wrapping around your frame as he pulls you to his chest, covering you with the warm blanket as if it was some kind of shield from the world and that’s exactly what you need. A hiding spot.
You let him pull you to him, face buried into his chest as you sob into his shirt, his strong arms holding you so tight, you feel like nothing can hurt you with his hold around you.
“I love you, baby. I really do. And when I tell you I find you gorgeous and that how pretty I think you are, that’s the truth. I love everything about you. Fell in love with you the first time I saw you and I’m not even joking. Please don’t ever think that you have to change for me.”
“But I can’t stop thinking about how I’m so different from the people you’ve dated,” you whimper shaking your head. His hands squeeze your upper arm as he kisses the crown of your head.
“Different is not bad, baby. I didn’t date my previous girlfriends because they looked the way they did. If I’m thinking about it, I should feel a little offended you think I’m so shallow to care about these stuff,” he jokes, earning a faint huff that’s somewhat a laugh from you.
“I just think that you’re not blind.”
“That is correct,” he chuckles. “I’m not blind, that’s why I find you so incredibly sexy.”
“I really don’t see how you can use the word sexy to describe me,” you mumble closing your eyes as a headache is starting to form from how hard you were crying just a minute ago.
“What do you think there is on you that I shouldn’t find attractive?” he prompts the question in all seriousness.
“Please don’t get me started because we’ll never get to the end of the list,” you huff bitterly. It might have come out as a joke but there’s just plenty of the truth behind your words.
“No, seriously. Tell me what you think I don’t find attractive on you,” he nags and you give up with a sigh.
“Okay, I… I have fat rolls on my stomach,” you start off with the first thing that’s on your mind.
“Everyone has them.”
“But not as big as mine. Yours aren’t as big as mine.”
“So what? I love your tummy. It’s soft, keeps your organs safe, especially the ones that will help us start a family at one point. For me, your tummy means that you are enjoying the wonderful foods of the world, that you are well and have a great appetite. I fucking hate it when girls are just poking around their salads, complaining about calories and all that stuff. Do you have any idea how much I enjoy watching you eat? I think it might be a fetish at this point,” he chuckles, making you laugh as you hide your face in his chest.
“Please don’t say that.”
“Why? I love it when you enjoy the food, I love trying new food with you, cooking with you, see you satisfied when you’re full, you have no idea how happy that makes me.”
“Really?” you ask in a whisper.
“Absolutely. I love your tummy, it’s just even more of you to love on,” he hums kissing the top of your head. “Okay, what’s next?”
“I have so many stretch marks,” you whine with a scowl. “They are everywhere, on my thighs, my ass, my stomach, fucking everywhere!”
“I literally have nothing else to say than… I couldn’t care less. Honestly, most people have them, baby. It’s natural, your body is changing, it’s just trying to keep up with the pace. But you know what I’m looking forward to?”
“What?”
“I can’t wait till you have marks from pregnancy, Love,” he huffs dreamily and you can’t help, but smile at his words. “Those marks will be a reminder to me how much you’ve gone through for our family. I think those are just so wonderful.”
“Why are you linking everything with having babies?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” he asks chuckling. “Because I can’t wait to have babies with you. I can’t wait to see you with a big belly, so I can love on you, take care of you and that our babies, I’m so excited for that.”
“You want all of that… with me?”
“Have I not made it clear to you?” he asks, looking down at you and moving your head your eyes finally meet his. “I’m not just saying all those things for nothing, Love. I see my future with you.”
Closing your eyes you let his words sink in and for the first time in a while, your mind is not trying to convince you that he is not telling you the truth.
“Okay, next,” he mumbles, his fingers dancing up and down your arm as he holds you tight.
“My boobs are weird,” you say out loud, cringing at your own words. You hate talking about this.
“Excuse me? What’s wrong with my girls?” he gasps, making you laugh.
“They are not as round as I would want them to be, a little saggy because of the weight gaining.”
“But they are boobs,” he points out, making you furrow your eyebrows.
“Yeah?”
“Okay, so that’s all that matters. Boobs are great, nothing else matters. Men are simple, baby.”
“I can’t believe you,” you laugh swatting his chest playfully.
“What? I mean it! Do you think I think about all that stuff when I see your boobs? My mind goes: Oh my God, boobs! And that’s it. I just get excited to see your tits.”
“You are such a pig,” you laugh, snuggling closer to his side.
“Are you shaming me for my preferences now?”
“Your preferences?”
“Yeah, you are my preference,” he remarks smugly, kissing into your hair again. “I literally don’t know how to say it differently, and I’m sorry for being so vulgar in advance…”
“Oh God,” you mumble, already fearing what he’s going to say.
“But you have nothing to worry about until you see my dick getting hard at the sight of you.”
“That was highly inappropriate.”
“Yeah, but it’s true. I find you sexy and there’s evidence. I can’t really hide it,” he chuckles and when you look up at him you see a dirty, twisted smirk on his pink lips. “Please don’t ever doubt any of my feelings for you, alright?” he asks in a more serious tone. “And if you feel like this again, I want you to tell me. Those pills and bottling it up inside you don’t help. I don’t want you to risk your health just because you have doubts about me. I love you, and when I say that I mean that I love all of you. Everything.”
“Okay,” you answer in a faint whisper.
“Don’t just say okay because you want me to get out of your hair. Promise me that you won’t keep it to yourself. I want to help you, I want to be there for you like you are always there for me.”
“I promise,” you nod, sinking your teeth into your bottom lip.
“Alright. Have you eaten today?” he softly asks and you fear to give him an answer, because you haven’t been able to push anything else down than just your morning coffee. “Okay, then let me make you something.” “I don’t… I’m not hungry…” you quietly tell him.
“Mhm, then I’ll make something for myself and being the romantic boyfriend that I am, I’m gonna share it with my lovely girlfriend as a cute gesture,” he says, rephrasing what he said earlier. You don’t argue with him, just let him slip out of your hold and go to the kitchen to make something for the two of you.
It’s a tiny step on a lifelong journey and you know that. You know that your feelings and opinion about yourself won’t change from one day to the other, but you slowly start to accept it. You have a lot ahead of you, the road might get bumpy sometimes and maybe other times you’ll have to take a few steps back. But at the end, you know it’s all going to be alright, because you will never be alone. Harry will be your greatest support through it all and now you can finally see that.
Don’t Worry - The 1975
When you're in love but you don't know what to do with it When blackness hangs overhead like a cloud
Don't worry, darlin' 'Cause I'm here with you Don't worry, darlin' The sun will shine through
When you wake up and you don't know what day it is When the pain flows through your heart and your bones
Don't worry, darlin' 'Cause I'm here with you Don't worry, darlin' The sun will shine through
When you feel no one knows just what you're goin' through When your insides feel much colder than snow
Don't worry, darlin' 'Cause I'm here with you Don't worry, darlin' Oh, don't worry, darlin' Don't worry, darlin' I'll always love you You

Pairing: King!Thor x Reader          Word Count: 6,291
Warnings: angst, pregnancy, broken marriages, depression, abandonment, little bits of fluff, supportive Loki
A/N: After I finished the last chapter, I went right to work on this one because the mood was good and I’ve been wanting to get these chapters out since the very beginning. These are the moments that drive me to write fics. The point of contention when everything gets messy. I hope you enjoy it, thank you so much for your comments and reblogs. Since I posted this one so quickly after the one before I will be replying to the comments on this one instead of the one before. I hope you can forgive me! <3 Thanks for reblogging if you do, it seriously helps SO much. xoxo

If you were ever in question as to whether you had a fight or flight instinct when faced with stressful situations, you now know that your instinct is to freeze.
You’re immobilized by the terror that’s tearing through you. Nothing feels real at this moment when your whole world has suddenly come crashing down.
Only seconds have passed but you quickly push your meltdown as deep within you as you can.
One hand placed on your belly in an absentminded caress of the baby growing inside, you reach for the door to go in and tell Thor you’re pregnant. It doesn’t matter that Jane is pregnant too.
You’re his wife. This little one inside you is the heir to the New Asgardian throne. And yet, your mind starts to add up the time that Jane might have become pregnant and her baby would come first.
Her child would be heir, not yours. Legitimate or not. These days, that stands for nothing.
So, despite knowing that you’ll have to deal with Jane for the rest of your life as she is the mother of your husband’s first child, it’s really not all that bad.
He loves you.
Thor loves you.
While you process this sudden revelation, the conversation on the other side of the door continues not waiting for you to come to get a grip.
“Are you certain?”
“Do you doubt her?” Thor demands, sounding frustrated and stressed.
“Yes,” Loki says passionately, “I would doubt anyone that I have not seen in several months.
“What reason would she have to lie?” Thor begs, genuinely looking for an excuse that will make this untrue. “She has never wanted the responsibility of the throne. She has always spoken of having children as a distant possibility. Not an assurance. The last thing Jane would want is a baby.”
“When did you even have the opportunity to bed her? Did you secretly make her your mistress?”
“No!” Thor gasps, as if the idea of cheating on you is ridiculous. “No, I-it was the day I went to end things with her when Y/N accepted my proposal.”
“So, you slept with Jane and then came back home and bedded your new fiance on the same day?”
“I’m not proud of that fact,” Thor admits.
“Regardless, even if you did sleep with her, you need to have her examined, Thor. You cannot take her on her word, not with so much on the line.”
“Fine,” Thor agrees, “But I’m certain that she isn’t lying. She’s been tired and sluggish since she arrived, her appetite strange, and this past week she’s been sick at every meeting, unable to hold down any of her lunch.”
A deep sigh from Loki tells you he’s resigned to Thor’s judgement. Jane is pregnant.
“What will you do?” Loki asks.
The quiet tone of their voices more dire than the passionate denial Thor’s voice had been just a moment ago.
You should go in now. You’ll tell him that you don’t care that Jane is pregnant. You’ll support him and assure him that if he wants them to move into the palace or maybe one of the houses on the palace grounds, you won’t mind! In fact, it will be better so that your babies can grow together as true siblings.
“Y/N is not pregnant yet,” Thor says slowly, his voice calculating.
He’s thinking hard.
“What is your point, brother?” Loki demands, sounding defensive.
“If-” Thor breathes in deep, but when he speaks, the words tumble out sure and decided. “If I am to do right by Jane’s and my child, if I am to legitimize my heir, I’ll-”
He hesitates, your heart thrumming so fast and hard that you can hear it’s beat in your ears as your brain throbs.
“I’ll get an annulment. The basis of which will be that Y/N has been unable to provide me with an heir. I’ll get sworn statements from her doctors that our-our bodies are not compatible and since Jane is already pregnant-”
You take a step as if to run but freeze because you know you can’t do this. No. You can’t face this. Not here. Not this close to him and her and all of this stupid royal bullshit that you never asked for but got anyway.
As you fracture from the inside, you paint a calm smile on your face and while you pull it off, you can’t disguise the exhaustion that pokes through. You take several feet back from the door, giving yourself a good length of hallway to walk.
You straighten up, stand as tall as you can, and move towards the parted door, “Thor?”
There’s a rush of movement from inside as you reach the war room and you try to keep your hand from trembling as you reach down and pull the door open.
Inside, Loki stands ramrod straight, hands behind his back and his face carefully devoid of any kind of expression other than his normal neutral.
Thor turns away from his desk, forcing a smile for you until he sees your face and his own falls quickly.
You know he doesn’t think you overheard him because you’d given yourself plenty of distance so that he and Loki could stop talking before you were close enough to hear anything.
But he knows something is wrong and he moves towards you, right hand extended to take hold of your arm.
Trying not to make it obvious, you meander towards one of the tall wooden chairs by the war table and sit down before Thor can touch you.
“What is it, cherub? Are you ill?” Thor wonders, moving towards you.
Feigning interest in the small models of the outposts that the Warriors Three occupy across the planet, you get up and move away from him again as you lean down to look at the one in the United States.
“I’m-to be honest, I am feeling a little under the weather,” you nod, sighing as you give him a quick pained smile.
You clear your throat, hoping that it sounds like you’ve got a tickle.
“I’ll send for the doctor,” Thor moves towards the cord by the door but you stand up straight quickly and shake your head.
“No, Thor, don’t. I think maybe I just need some rest?” you nod, smiling at him again but it still just looks painful. “I came to ask you if it would be okay for me to go stay at my house for a little while? Maybe a week or so? Just so that I can get some proper sleep and-and maybe find out if it’s really me getting sick or I’m just stressed out about this park project?”
“I thought the park was almost done?” Loki checks.
“And it is,” you nod at him. “But we’ve had so much trouble with the import of several of the plants that I’d wanted to have in the wildflower corner of the park and the fountains are still giving us trouble so, I-I just need a few days to get away from it.”
You turn back to Thor who isn’t looking at you anymore but has his hand pressed to his mouth as he loses himself in thought.
As you watch him contemplate and weigh his options, wondering if he should seize this very convenient opportunity you’ve intentionally given him to make up his mind on what to do about Jane and her baby, you very nearly break.
Your lip quivers and in your desire to hide it, you move back towards the door and feign a quick peek out as if looking for someone.
“Thor?” you prod, getting a hold of yourself and turn to fix him with your expectant gaze. “Is that okay? Can I take a few days to just rest up?”
He snaps out of his thoughts and his face softens. You see the Thor who’d just had you perched on his lap, arm around your waist.
“Of course, cherub, if you need some time then you should take it.”
The sadness that fills you is urged on by the knowledge that before Jane’s pregnancy was revealed, Thor would have insisted he come with you.
There is no way that he would have let you go off on your own.
As he moves towards you, this time you make sure not to budge as he places his hands gently on your arms.
He cups the left side of your face, stroking your cheek with his large thumb before he makes to lean in towards you.
Instead of pulling away or making it look too obvious, you press your face in against his chest and he strokes your back as you successfully juke his kiss.
“No, don’t kiss me. I-I threw up and I haven’t brushed my teeth,” you pretend to fuss.
“You know I don’t care, cherub,” Thor nudges you back a little.
“Well, I do.”
You shake your head at him, delving deep into your soul to scrounge up whatever pieces of it you can find and give him a small pout instead.
“Alright,” Thor gives in, but he still leans down and presses his lips to your cheek and then your forehead before you’re pulling away from him to edge towards the door.
“I should go if I want to catch the next flight out,” you tell him.
“Y/N,” he calls and you stop by the door to look back at him, wishing he’d just let you go so that you can fall apart alone and away from all the eyes of the palace.
Thor clenches his hand into a tight fist, gently tapping it against the war table as you wait.
“I love you.”
You blink, give him a quick forced smile, and sigh because despite the heartache you’re drowning in, “I love you too, Thor. So much.”
As you walk away, you know that nothing will ever be the same. In a week’s time, you might not even be Queen anymore. Wouldn’t that be something?
~~~~~~~~~~
You’re given a bodyguard. Well, more like a friend who can kick serious ass. Hilde was happy to volunteer.
“Something’s up,” she observes as she escorts you into the airport gate.
Normally you’d have set up for a private plane, or Thor would have.
But he has other things on his mind.
“What do you mean?” you ask her, clearing your throat again for the fifth time since you left the palace in order to uphold the pretense of feeling sick.
“Your face is all wrong, you’re not saying something.”
“I have nothing to hide, Hilde. I’m just tired. I feel weak and beaten. I feel like I can’t catch my breath. Like I’ll crack if I’m not careful enough to hold myself together.”
All of this is true. You do feel like you’re about to crumble to pieces. Nothing you just said is a lie. You’re not hiding anything, just waiting. In a week’s time, you’ll know where you stand. And then you can tell Hilde everything.
“How long have you felt this way?” Hilde wonders, real concern painting her tone.
“Not long,” you tell her. “It just started today, actually. About two hours ago?”
“There’s something more,” she refuses to believe that you’re only sick. “It’s like you’re running from something.”
“What would I be running from, Hilde? My luxurious and comfortable life? My loving husband? My sweet and loyal people? My life is perfect. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.
“I have a family. The only thing I’ve ever wanted. Why would I run from that? Unless of course, I’m being kicked out?”
Hilde fixes you with a look of complete confusion.
As you hand over your ticket to the man at the gate, you force a smile on your friend.
“If I were being kicked out, I’d run before they could get the chance to give me the boot. Then at least it was my choice and not someone forcing me to go away.”
“Why would anyone kick you out? It’s not possible, Your Majesty. You are Queen of New Asgard. Or did you forget?”
“I don’t think it’s possible for me to ever forget my time as Queen. I think I’ll remember it until the day I die.”
Hilde takes your arm, turning you to face her with subtle force, “Oi, what aren’t you telling me?”
You swallow hard, pushing your sorrow down until you can ignore it a little better.
“I’m-I’m not hiding anything, seriously. I’m just tired, Hilde. Being Queen is harder than I ever thought it could be and even though I love being married to Thor, the stresses of doing my job as Queen have reached a point where it’s boiling over.
“I just need a break...from everyone, Hilde. Even you.”
“What did I do?!” she demands, offended.
“Nothing. You’ve been one of the good parts of being Queen, but I just need a little break from Asgard as a whole. I spent my entire childhood and teenage years alone with no one to rely on me but me.
“I just need to be alone for a bit. One week. That’s all I want. So...I know that Thor won’t be happy about it but now that you’ve seen me onto the plane-”
“I am not leaving you alone,” Hilde frowns, almost angry at you for even asking.
“David is meeting me when the plane lands and then driving me home himself. I’ll be fine being alone for just the flight,” it’s a plea as much as it is a reassurance. “Please, Hilde. Please? Please?”
The higher your pitch gets, the more she breaks, turning sympathetic.
“Please, Hilde? Please?”
She growls and rolls her eyes, holding out your carryon bag--a large brown duffel bag stuffed with clothes--so that you can take it.
“Thor is going to be pissed at me,” she grumbles. “And it’s all your fault.”
You take your bag, hang it on your shoulder, and quickly pull her in to kiss her cheek.
“Thank you, Hilde. I’ll text you as soon as I land. I promise.”
“You’d better, or I’ll come find you and stick at your side like paste.”
A stewardess comes out to peek down at you and you hurry off before Hilde can change her mind.
In no time at all, you’re in your seat, the plane up and the air, and New Asgard--Thor and his annulment of your marriage--is fading fast behind you.
When you land, no one is there to meet you.
A necessary lie. You'll have to call David in the morning and let him know what's happening. He's your lawyer and if Thor goes through with his plan, you'll need to be legally ready.
You're hit with a stab of hurt that your previously loving marriage has taken such a shift.
Still, you feel bad for lying to Hilde, but when you’d said you needed your alone time, you’d meant it.
You rent a car with your own money, ignoring the shiny black credit card that Thor had given you during your honeymoon shopping trip. The last thing you need is them tracing your movements when you just want to be left alone.
The drive home is lengthy but the peace it brings you is welcome.
Four hours of no one but yourself, the music on your radio, and endless grassy hills and small town charms streaking past your windows like long lost friends.
After an hour of driving you stop at a roadside diner. You buy a bag full of fries, smear them in lines of ketchup, grab a lemonade to go, and text Hilde that you’re with David and on your way home.
After another hour, you stop again. This time at a decently sized convenience store, newly built. It's a truck stop really and you take the chance to use the bathroom then loiter by your car as you tap the screen of your phone with your thumb, waking it up over and over again. Unable to make up your mind.
Your wallpaper taunts you. A picture of you sitting between Thor’s legs on your massive bed, his arms wrapped around you as your left hand is placed to his cheek as he kisses yours, your other arm extended as you take the picture.
It’s difficult to find the courage to unlock your phone, scroll through your contacts, and press the little phone to dial Thor.
He doesn’t pick up right away.
Sadly your marriage already feels like a past life. It feels dead. Like a good dream you’ve woken up from and you just know if you try and go back to sleep to keep it going, it’ll only turn into a nightmare.
The phone rings and rings. It goes to voicemail.
It hurts. So much more than you expected it to hurt and your tears overflow leaving salty trails along your cheeks as you hiccup and try not to sob out loud.
You lean and cry against your car for the longest two minutes of your life before your phone is ringing and vibrating in your hand.
It’s Thor, and for a second, you consider not answering. You consider disappearing. Just fading into the wilderness. Abandoning your car right here. Never making it to your little house. It's so tempting in the moment to give up your throne, which will soon be taken away from you, and start your life again.
How long would they look for you? Would they eventually assume you're dead?
Still, you know that Dr. Wilson and Dr. Alric would spill the beans and if Thor knew...
You press your free hand to your stomach and know that you can’t just vanish. This life will follow you wherever you go and as painful as it is, you’re not sorry for the baby you’ve made.
You swallow your sobbing and with all of the other things you’re not allowed to feel right now or you’ll give yourself away, bury it deep down inside.
Gliding your finger across the screen, you answer the phone and press it to your ear.
“My love,” Thor gasps, sounding stressed or tired? Labored breathing.
Your mind goes to dark places and you chase away the nasty images your mind thinks up before you can let them hurt you more.
How can he still call me that?!
“I’m sorry I didn’t answer. Forgive me. I'd left my phone on my desk and I had my hands full of books.”
Your mouth won’t open. It won’t speak.
You realize all of a sudden that you don’t want to talk to Thor. You’re so angry at him. You’re hurt and betrayed and everything he’s ever told you is a lie.
“Y/N?” he sounds so confused.
“I’m here,” you manage.
“How are you feeling, cherub?”
Stop calling me that!
“I’m not great,” you sigh, sagging against the car. “I just wanted to call you to tell you that I’m with David and we’re on our way to my house. We stopped at the store to go to the bathroom, so I thought I’d call you.”
“Wait, David? Why is David with you? Where is Brunnhilde?” Thor asks, his heavy breathing still loud.
“I asked her to stay behind,” you explain. “Look, Thor I don’t really feel well enough for talking. I just didn’t want you to worry. I promised I’d call.”
“Why would she let you go alone?” Thor demands, shouting into whatever room he’s in. “Loki! Where is Brunnhilde? Get her up here!”
“I have to go, Thor. David’s waiting. I’ll call you later, okay?”
“Wait. Don’t hang up yet, cherub. Do you have a doctor to see you close to home?” Thor frets, and you can’t stand it.
“I’m coming, David!” you pretend to call, the convenience store clerk currently throwing the trash looks at you then turns his head back and forth as if searching for who you might be talking to. “Bye, Thor.”
“No, wait, love. Don’t hang-”
His voice is cut off and yet his deep tone still rings in your ears as if he were standing right beside you.
Your heart cries out for him. You wish he was there with you but then your brain reminds you that your time with Thor is already over.
The clerk is still looking at you and you give him a quick shake of your head.
“Sorry,” you start. “Bad breakup.”
He nods sympathetically as you get back in your care then gives you a wave as you drive off, setting back off into the night.
You’re not driving twenty minutes before your phone dings. A text.
Then again. And again. And again. Too many texts come through and you can’t stand it.
You reach over and completely shut it off.
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s midnight when you finally get up from bed.
There’s no escaping Thor even here in your own home. Your honeymoon memories are everywhere here.
The bed. The shower. The closet--Thor was eager one morning. The kitchen. The backyard. Every room has a memory. Not all of them sex, but all of them just as poignant and meaningful.
Or so you’d thought.
You wander down the hall to your kitchen, flipping the switch as you enter and make a beeline for the vintage fridge.
“Shit-” you sigh, not even opening it as you remember that there will be no food until you go shopping for some.
You take a peek, just to confirm, and all that's inside is a half empty jar of pickles on the door.
Irritated, you move towards the pantry and grab the first box of cereal you see, pop it open and plunge your hand inside.
You scoop a bit into your mouth but just as you begin to crunch, your mouth falters at the sight of Loki sitting on one of your island stools where he clearly wasn't before, a gentle smile to compliment the knowing sharpness in his eyes.
“You heard us, didn’t you?”
You try not to react to his question, because it’s not a question. Just confirmation of what he clearly already guessed.
“You’re not really here, are you?” You finish chewing, taking more cereal into your mouth after you swallow.
You’re starving. You should have bought some burgers at that diner to reheat and eat tonight and tomorrow.
“No,” Loki confirms. “I'm...checking in. Thor doesn’t know. He’s pretty oblivious, actually. Other things on his mind.”
“Like pregnant ex-girlfriends whose baby will have a stronger claim over the Asgardian throne than mine?”
There’s a bitterness in your voice but you don’t feel sorry for it. You’re not going to hide how hurt you are.
Loki’s face finally breaks as he realizes what you mean. He gives you a small startled blink before he’s got control of his expression again.
“Don’t tell him, Loki.”
“He deserves to know.”
“Does he?” you demand, voice rising in your anger. “And I don’t deserve to know about Jane being pregnant?”
“He would have told you,” Loki assures you.
“When?” You demand, eyes stinging. “When he needed my signature on the annulment papers?”
“He’s not decided on anything yet.”
“Oh, my god! As if that even fucking matters!” you get up, throwing the box of cereal into the garbage.
They’re stale.
“The point is he thinks it’s a good idea. I married him. I thought he welcomed me into his family. I thought I belonged with him, and you and Hilde and Heimdall, but I’m just some fucking guest after all, aren’t I?”
“You’re overreacting,” Loki chastises you.
You pick up a nearby mug and chuck it at him. It goes through him and breaks against the wall behind him.
“Don’t tell me that I’m overreacting when my husband is thinking about legally erasing all traces of our marriage!
"I trusted him," you reach up and jab at your own chest somewhat painfully.
"I thought what we had was worth keeping and protecting. I was already making plans to move Jane and her baby into the palace so that our kids could grow up together, as a family but he doesn’t want that.
“He doesn’t want me in his life if he’s already got another heir lined up so why should I tell him? If he doesn’t want me without this baby then he has no right wanting me with it!”
Loki lets you shout, he lets you break down. He doesn’t judge you for it either, but he reads into it. Too much, and you hate him for it.
You don't want to be reasonable. This doesn't feel like the time for reason. You're shattered.
“He loves you, Y/N. His choice is made-”
“For the child, yes. I get that. That doesn’t make it hurt any less. And maybe I shouldn’t be angry for him doing right by his baby when I’m carrying one of my own, but I am angry. It hurts to know that in moments he was able to make the choice to end our marriage.
“He’s my husband and I am his wife. Does that seriously mean nothing?”
Loki shakes his head, “I’ve already told you that he hasn’t decided anything, yet.”
“You don’t get it, and I don’t know that you can understand what even considering the option of annulment means for us as a couple.”
Loki sighs, “I want you to listen to me very clearly, Y/N. I say this with as much love as a brother can feel for his sister. You need to understand and you need to accept that you and Thor are not a normal couple. Thor is, first and foremost, a king.
“He is beholden to his people and he needs to ensure our position on this planet because we don’t have a home anymore. We are refugees and this is our home now. It is Thor’s job to protect that on behalf of all of us by any means necessary. Choices like these are the reason that my brother resisted the throne for so long.
“As a King, all of the love in the world cannot keep him from making the choices that will benefit our people, even if the choice should hurt him in the process.”
You’re shaking with tears as Loki speaks, shaking your head as you press your hand against your tummy. Your thoughts are full of the baby growing within you and the helpless feeling that presses down on you.
“That’s why this baby changes things, Y/N. You must tell him that you’re pregnant if you are going to keep him for yourself. If you want your marriage to survive this, you can’t keep this from him.”
Shaking your head, you turn away from him to fill a small glass with water and take a small drink.
Yes, you need to tell Thor that you’re pregnant. As wounded as your pride is, you can’t keep him in the dark forever.
“My Queen?” Loki urges you, calling you by your title probably to remind you that like Thor, you have obligations even if you don’t like or want them.
“Fine,” you sigh. “I’ll tell him, but not yet. Just give me this week, Loki. Please.”
When you turn to look at him again, he’s softer with his gaze.
“You’re going to let him suffer for his idea of the annulment,” he guesses.
“No,” you shake your head. “This isn’t for Thor. This is for me. Just because I understand the reason he thought of an annulment doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt anymore.
“If I saw him right now, I couldn’t even talk to him, Loki. He might have betrayed me for good reasons, but he’s still betrayed me. He still accepted, even for a few moments, that giving me up was the best thing he could do.
“And maybe it’s because he’s the-the first person that I’ve ever loved, and maybe I’m still looking at our very arranged marriage with some girl’s view of romance but I can’t separate his duty from my hurt and I-I don’t know that I can ever forgive him.”
"I suppose that's fair," Loki sighs. “I won’t say anything, I promise. But I’m going to make sure that he’s here on Friday. From there, it’s your duty as mother to a future prince or princess of Asgard to tell Thor about your pregnancy.”
You move to sit next to him, giving the bits and pieces of the mug you’d thrown at him a look as you settle.
“I’m sorry I threw a cup at your head.".
Loki smirks, “Would you believe me when I tell you that it’s happened before?”
You almost smile, “Yes. I believe it.”
Loki chuckles but you can't return the sentiment. For you, the world is still ending.
“Can you do me a favor, sister?” Loki asks, his term of endearment warms you a little.
Even if Thor found it easily to cast you off, you’re happy that Loki sees you so permanently a part of his family.
“Something tells me I’m not going to be happy about it, but sure.”
“Turn on your phone,” he glances at the phone sitting at the center of the island only inches away from you where you’d left it to avoid temptation. “Thor won’t shut up about how you’re not replying. If you really want to cherish some time alone, it would be better if you answered him. If he’s worried, he can get here within the hour. I don't suppose you want that."
"No," you shudder..
"Oh, and make sure you use your black card. He’ll be checking to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself.”
You roll your eyes, the rift between you and Thor already so big you can’t see a way to fix it.
“This contradiction of Thor loving me so much he’s worried to death and his ability to decide on annulling our marriage is hard to swallow. What’s he going to do when we’re not married anymore and I’m living here and he’s married to Jane?”
“That will never happen, Y/N seeing as you’re going to tell him that you’re pregnant and he won’t go through with an annulment.” Loki insists.
“What if he does?” you wonder. “Jane’s baby was conceived first. They’ll be heir to the throne. Not mine. What if Thor decides that an annulment is still the best course of action?”
“Then I think I’ll have to reconsider my pledge to serve him as my King. But he won’t go through with it, I promise you. Trust me. I know him. Thor is too soft hearted to hurt you like that.”
“He already hurt me, Loki. It’s just the finality of a follow through that I’m waiting for.”
“You’re so eager to be abandoned,” Loki observes, frustrated with you.
“It just feels like I already have been. I’m sorry if that bothers you, but I can’t help how I feel. Haven’t you ever thought you belonged somewhere only to find out that you’re not as accepted as you thought?”
Loki thinks for a moment, his silence heavy with memory, “I have.”
“And how long did it take you to get over it?”
Loki grins, meeting your eyes with a bit of resignation.
“A long time,” he admits.
“And mine just happened today. You expect me to be over it already? Get bent, Loki.”
Loki chuckles.
“You have a point. I’m sorry, I’ve been looking at this through the lens of being my brother’s advisor. I’ll try and do better.”
His promise is genuine and it makes you feel better that you have at least one person on your side.
“Thank you, Loki,” you sigh. “I know this isn’t an easy spot for you to be in, between me and Thor. I appreciate you coming to check on me.”
“It’s my pleasure. Thor might not have noticed the way you refused to touch him when you left today but I was instantly sure that you’d heard everything. Does it bother you that he slept with her and you on the same day?”
“Not as much as I thought it would,” you admit. “Even without him explicitly saying it, I knew that he’d been with her. I knew that it was likely that he’d slept with her. They were in love. Maybe him more than her, but they didn’t break up because they wanted to. They broke up because he needed to get married and Jane wasn’t ready to do that.
“If Thor had made more of an attempt to delay our wedding, maybe Jane would have come to him sooner with her news and Thor and I would never have gotten married. I wouldn’t be pregnant, and this would all be much less messy.”
“I’m glad he didn’t wait. I’d rather have you as a sister than Jane. She’s nice but you’re much better suited to be Queen.”
“Until my King pisses me off and I run off for a week,” you tease.
“This is an exceptional situation,” Loki nods. “I don’t think if anyone else were in your shoes, they would be any less hurt than you by the news of Jane’s baby. If she is pregnant.”
You look at him, interest piqued.
“You said something like that before, that Jane should get tested to make sure she’s pregnant. What makes you think she might not be?”
“Nothing in particular. She might be. I just really don’t want her to be. I like you for Thor, Y/N. As far as I’m concerned, you’re Asgardian now.”
“I wish Thor thought like you do.”
“He does think it, Y/N. He’s just thrown off balance right now. Give him a little time and tell him about your child. His child, and it will clear up his mind. His judgement is compromised by the fact that he has an heir from the woman he once loved and the woman he now loves has had no luck in conceiving one. Or so he thinks.”
“I already told you that I’ll tell him, Loki. I just want some time.” you sigh.
“I know. We’re talking in circles. I’ll go, let you get some rest.”
You turn to watch him, slowly he begins to dissolve into slow moving golden swirls mixed with a tinge of green.
“Oh, and check your fridge again. I’ve left you a present.”
Just as quickly as he’d shown up, he’s gone.
With a heavy heart you remember the favor he asked of you and turn on your phone.
Twenty texts chime in and you quickly scroll through them.
They’re all from Thor, save for two from Hilde.
Hilde: Thanks. Be careful.
Hilde: Snitch!
All of Thor’s are variations of the same message.
Thor: Please reply, cherub.
Thor: Are you asleep?
Thor: I’m sorry if I’m waking you up.
Thor: Are you home yet?
Thor: Are you safe?
It isn’t until the last few messages that his frenzy of worry seems to change. More resigned to your lack of response. Probably believing that you are actually asleep.
Thor: I miss you already, cherub. I can’t tell you how strange it is to lay in our bed without you.
Thor: I don’t think there’s been a night since we married aside from my visit to the outposts that I have not had your perfect body pressed to mine.
Thor: My heart aches without you.
Thor: My body craves in your absence.
Thor: My soul is empty. You are my very essence now, my sweet cherub.
Thor: I hope you’re not very ill. I could not stand to lose you.
You sob, reading his texts through paints a drastic contrast between his deep voice crying for annulment and the loving, doting, sweet husband who sent you these messages.
His text voice is also so different from the way he talks. You can hear the way he might have talked to you if he hadn’t spent so much time with the Avengers and other humans here on Earth. Jane probably heard him speak like this out loud when they first met.
She’d been his first contact with this planet.
Wiping at your tears, you clutch the phone to your chest for a moment before focusing your blurry eyes on the screen again to keep reading.
Thor: I’ve never known how essential you are to my life until this moment. I need you at my side. I am most certain of it now.
Thor: I would give my life for you. I will keep you close from now on. I don’t know if I can last a week without you, my love. Don’t hate me if I come to you tomorrow.
Thor: Loki has just told me that he’s come to see that you’ve settled into your home safely. I really need him to teach me that trick. He says you need rest and that you already have a doctor coming by in the morning.
Thor: Please tell me what they say once they’ve seen you.
Thor: Loki keeps yelling at me to let you sleep.
Thor: Goodnight, cherub. I love you. More than my life.
Thor: Please text me in the morning.
Thor: It’s Loki. I’ve taken his phone. I’ll make sure he leaves you alone for the full week. Thank you for turning your phone on.
Y/N: I’m fine, Thor. Just very tired.
And because it’s true and if you don’t say it, he’ll get suspicious:
Y/N: I love you, too.
You sniffle and lock your phone.
“Jerk,” you grieve, and move to the fridge.
Opening it again, you’re surprised to find it fully stocked this time with all of your favorite foods and treats.
Loki is seriously the best brother-in-law in the universe.

Tumblr media
Jimin is a nice guy, but you doubt he’d make a nice boyfriend. He fucks you hard and fast, just as you like, but hardly goes out of his way to sprinkle in any other requests. He’s got a one track mind, doesn’t dwell too long on what you say or how you’re feeling. Doesn’t matter because he’s just supposed to be a fuck buddy, the hot guy you met at a party, so you don’t let it phase you. But, well. Jimin is dreamy.
Sometimes he holds your hand while he eats you out and it sends your thoughts into a frenzy, makes your heart pound a little too fast to brush it off as just arousal. He’s got this gorgeous smile, plush lips framing pearly teeth, and when he flashes it your way, it makes your knees weak. Tells you you’re pretty when he picks you up from class, always holds your hand on the way to his place for your routine fuck. Cute and nice like an angel, but just like an angel, he hardly gives a shit about anyone’s feelings but his own.
He laughs when you ask him to hang out that weekend.
“What, like a date?” he snorts, bare chest glistening from his post-fuck exertion. You're pressed against his side now, circling his pretty brown nipple with your finger. “That’s corny.”
You try to not let it get to you, but Jimin is so cool and you want him to be your boyfriend so bad. “Yeah, silly right,” you murmur, ear pressed to his heart. It’s calming and soothing, a slow thrum that contrasts with your own racing heart.
He’s not one for dates or for romantic things like that. But neither is he some player, a cheater, a two-timer. You can count the number of times he’s slept with someone who wasn’t you in your weird fuck buddy relationship, and all four of those had been when you first started sleeping together and only when you had been out of town. You’re no saint either, so you try to understand. He was just horny, liked getting his dick wet, and sometimes he couldn’t wait for you. Understandable, you tell yourself, but your heart hurts a little bit when he begins snoring without really answering your question.
See the thing is, you really like Jimin. It’s been a little over a year now since you’ve met, so you’ve had plenty of time to learn all about him. He doesn’t like pancakes for breakfast, prefers them for lunch actually, and laughs when you tell him that’s weird. He’s got this really dorky laugh, something between a bell and a whistle— it depends on the situation. Sometimes, Jimin likes when you play with his hair, and other times he doesn’t. He’s a sweet boy, you know he is, so why won’t he settle down?
You hate to attribute it to some past trauma, some “my girlfriend broke my heart when I was seventeen” mess, but the more time that passes you begin to believe it’s true. Jimin was a tough nut to crack, and the longer this drags on, the longer he ignores your feelings, you begin to doubt you will ever see them fulfilled.
Maybe you should end this now before it’s too late.
You don’t stay for breakfast the next morning, simply kiss him goodbye at the door like always. He’s older than you, about two years, so he doesn’t go to school anymore, just chills at home all weekend. “I’ll see you soon?” he grins, low-lidded eyes tracking the movement of your mouth as you bid him adieu. You never give him a solid response, figure a guy like Jimin will forget about you soon enough.
Then, suddenly, it’s been two weeks and he doesn’t reach out. Yeah it hurts, but it’s better than having confessed to him and losing him all at once. You’d rather this ending than the one where he terribly rejects you, breaks your heart into a million pieces, and throws you away. Still, it hurts.
Jimin was so cool. He was smart and confident, had a snappy sort of attitude that he liked to use now and then. He could be mean in bed, lick your cunt until you cried and call you a stupid girl when he wanted to. But that same tongue had snapped at a guy who was trying to pressure you into bed with him at a party. That first night you met, where you had sillily followed him home after his dashing intervention, you had thought it would be nothing more. Just a fling, just a fuck.
But then he was in your bed and in your head, twinkling eyes and cocky grin trailing after you everyday. He was so pretty and so suave, made you feel good even when he was being mean. But you suppose most cocky men like Jimin are like that. They know they don’t disappoint, even when they’re not really trying.
Jimin doesn’t call or text. You don’t see his car pull up outside your campus anymore. He’s gone and that’s that. You cry a little (see: a lot) and pretend you’re over him. You definitely don’t think about his soft laughter or his hands on your chest. Nope.
So that ends.
Or so you think.
Your friends say you’re mopey and sad, too down for someone who wasn’t even your boyfriend. It’s true, which sucks, but they honor your admittance by taking you out to a bar that night. It’s supposed to be chill and relaxing, just some drinks with the girls to soothe your aching heart. But the name of the bar reminds you of something, of someone you can’t reach anymore, and you don’t even know why. You’ve never been here before, never even knew this place existed. But everything about it brings you back to Jimin, like you’re in his space now, and you’re unsure why.
It reminds you of his laugh, his smile, to the point you swear you can hear it, right beside you, down the bar, to your left—
He waves.
There’s this look he used to give you every time he picked you up from your last class, this mix between adoration and lust that made your skin tingle with excitement. It’s not there now, in fact, it’s replaced with the complete opposite. It’s, like, the meanest look he can muster, something akin to a scowl. He smiles, but it’s so plastic-y and fake, it makes your head hurt. He’s so obviously unimpressed with you, probably because you ghosted him before he could ghost you. Maybe his pride is hurt and looking at you grosses him out. Maybe he just hates you.
Either way, eleven pm rolls around and you’re crying in the bathroom. Your friends are out on the floor having fun and singing karaoke. They think you’ve gone inside because you got your period, because that’s what you’ve told them. You don’t know how to explain that your ex who isn’t really your ex is out there looking at you like you’re a piece of gum stuck under his shoe. They’ve never even met Jimin. Why? Because he wasn’t your boyfriend. Who meets their friend’s fuck buddy? No one.
You sniffle, press a balled up tissue against your eyes in a feeble attempt to save your makeup. The bar isn’t that small, but neither is it huge. There’s only a few bathrooms in the back, and you’ve been hogging one of them for some time now. Someone knocks on the door, and you don’t even get the chance to ward them off before the crappy knob jingles and the door bursts open.
“Come on,” he grumbles, “you’re not the only one who’s gotta piss—“
He pauses, meets your eye through the mirror in surprise. “I’m sorry,” you blubber, hurriedly washing your hands in an effort to avoid his gaze. Jimin lingers at the door, which has long since fallen shut, and watches you with the eyes of a hawk. Your hands tremble and shake, fumble over the towel dispenser three times before you’re hastily making your escape. “Sorry,” you mutter again, head downcast as you move around him for the door.
Just as it cracks open, the music from outside filtering in, he slams it shut with a flat palm. You flinch, close in on yourself as he steps behind you. “What’re you doing here, doll?” he murmurs, deep yet careful. Tentative. “You don’t like bars.”
You know you don’t like bars. You didn’t know he knew that. “I’m with some friends,” you explain, jump when a hand touches your shoulder. “I— I’ll leave soon.”
A second attempt for the door is thwarted by Jimin. “Don’t,” he startles, breath heavy against your ear. “Don’t leave again…” he sighs, forehead against your shoulder. And then, quietly, “why did you leave me?”
Your heart syncs up with the music outside, thunders in your ears as you purse your lips. You don’t want to talk about it now, don’t want to confess to these emotions that drown you. Especially not when he’ll never understand nor will he ever care. It’s best to leave it as is, you convince yourself, slowly shrugging him off.
“We don’t want the same things,” you reply, eyes burning with the need to cry like a baby. But it’ll weaken your argument, make you look like the sentimental girl you know he won’t like. “It wouldn’t work anyway.”
The hand on your shoulder jerks you around, makes a gasp catch in your throat when he crowds you against the door. He’s got that same glare on from before, the one he had sent you across the bar earlier, and it makes your lower lip tremble when it’s this close. “You never asked me what I wanted,” he hisses.
It is then that you realize it isn't anger or disgust, but frustration that paints his features. It’s pure, unadulterated confusion and distress on his pretty face, furrowed brows and narrowed eyes pointed your way. You don’t know what it means, don’t know what he wants. “I,” you choke, weakly covering your face with your hand before he can see you crumble. “I just wanted you.”
Jimin deflates, steps closer until his body is pressed against yours, hands on your shoulders. “And you have me, doll,” he murmurs, bumps his nose against yours. “Always have.”
You shake your head, choke on a sob that bubbles up your throat. “No, not like that,” you stress, losing yourself in the emotions you spent so much time bottling up. “I wanted more.”
Jimin shushes you, guides your head into the crook of his neck where you paint his skin in dark mascara tears. “Is this about the date?” he sighs, patting your head gently.
“It’s more than just the date,” you cry, fists curling into the material of his shirt until it rumples beyond repair. He doesn’t understand.
Jimin nods, let’s you cry and sob until you’re feeling better and someone else is pounding at the door, yelling at you two to get a proper room. You don’t want a room, you only want his heart.
He takes you home again, helps you out of your shoes at the door because you’re still sensitive and quiver like a leaf when you walk. His bedroom is familiar, smells like him and his detergent. You miss it so much, want to savor it once more. Something in your gut says this is the last time, this is just Jimin getting one last fuck out of you before he really abandons you.
So you cry when he sits down on the edge of the bed. He hasn’t even said anything, hasn’t even taken his socks off yet, but you’re already a mess.
And of course he’s there to catch you, tugs you between his legs to look up at you as if you’ve hung the stars in the sky. “Don’t cry,” he whispers, reaching up to brush away your tears. But it’s not your fault that he looks like that right before he’s going to break your heart.
He’s so cool, even when you’re falling apart in his hands. “You don’t want me,” you sniffle, let him guide you onto his lap. “You just want to fuck and that’s it.”
Jimin leans his forehead against yours, warm breath washing over your skin. “I never said that,” he murmurs. “We’ve been over this.”
You huff. “Well you never said you did either,” you snap, rubbing at your eyes.
You cry and cry some more, until your sobs subside and you’re left with the hiccups afterwards. Jimin maneuvers you beside him, lets your hair spill across the sheets as he lays you down. They smell just like him, make your head spin when he kisses your cheek softly. “I want you,” he confesses. “I want this.”
You shake your head vehemently. “No, you don’t,” you sniff, but you’re not so sure. It’s what you’ve been telling yourself for the longest. Hearing him say otherwise sounds weird, even if he’s saying what you want to hear. “You don’t.”
Jimin catches your hand in his, pins it to the mattress. “I want you to be mine,” he adds, swallows your cries of denial with his lips. He kisses softly, and for the first time, it feels like he’s paying attention to you. Not your body or your lust, but your heart. “Had me feeling like shit when you didn’t come back. Like I lost something big.”
You still cry when he kisses down your neck, over your chest. His hands pull your clothes off, carefully like you’re a present for him to unwrap. Those plush lips you love so much drown you in kisses, over your tummy and your mound, until they’re buried between your cunt. “You’re mine,” he husks out, hand entwined with yours.
His eyes are dark from down there, long lashes blinking up at you as he dips his tongue in the places you crave him most. It brings you to a shuddering end, has you whimpering his name into the empty air until your toes are curling and you’re coming against his mouth. Jimin has never shied away from you, and doesn’t know, sits up with a hazy look in his eyes as he wipes his face with the back of his hand.
Jimin wastes no time undressing, pushes off that sexy jacket until his lithe body is coming into view, thick thighs and lean abdomen. He slides right into you, holds your knees to your chest as he fucks you like never before. It’s slow and sensual, makes you shiver when he says your name in that low register of his. “Don’t leave again,” he whimpers, cock throbbing between your walls. He’s desperate today, ruts like you’ll slip right between his fingertips. It’s funny because you're the same way, clinging onto his shoulders until you’re practically glued together.
You come and so does Jimin. He pants against your ear, feels so warm and heavy on top of you. He doesn’t say much more that night, just plays with your hair. But he asks you on a date, mentions something about a carnival. “Yes,” you respond right away, because, well.
Jimin was dreamy. Maybe he’d be a good boyfriend.

title: the little death rating: T+ word count: 2,409 summary: Two years after his fight with Death, Trevor’s injuries start catching up to him while Alucard realizes that humans are more fragile than he thought.
For @trevorsmellmont ❤️  Thank you so much for commissioning me!
READ HERE
There’s a sharp pain pooling beneath his right arm, coursing through his ribcage. Trevor ignores it just as he’s ignored all the other aches, jabs, and stings over the past two years. Two years of building something better, something sustainable to last far longer than its young, admittedly green founders. Countless days, weeks, and months erecting homes, gardens, and pens for those dumb gentle animals who think the entire townscape is their personal pasture. Not another mistake of allowing them to wander aimlessly straight into the castle. As if heifers need to learn how to craft medicine or conduct what’s being referred to as “electricity”.
The work will never be finished. Even on days like this when the sun burns hotter than any circle in hell. A few drops of warm salt-ridden sweat crawl past Trevor’s pressed lips and into his dry mouth. Pain and thick heat were never enough to stop him before—he tells himself this, barely certain of his own supportive thoughts (a new concept taking root in his mind). Take it slow, don’t push yourself, idiot. This cabin made from the earth will get built eventually. Another family will receive their forever home to fill with lots of babies. Old wounds beg to differ as Trevor’s arms begin to weaken, each movement slower than the last, struggling to keep up with Greta’s superior pace. She’s always known her way around a mallet.
Another bead of sweat gets caught in Trevor’s lashes, sparing his eyes from temporary discomfort. Though it wouldn’t have mattered as they’re already past any sort of respite. He looks for distraction but can only see the blurred shapes coming from a huddle of bodies, despite being a short distance from them. He knows it’s only Sypha and Alucard with the village children, which gives Trevor some relief.
There’s more comfort to be felt when he remembers that one of those little monsters is his own, nestled in Sypha’s lap then placed in Alucard’s gentle arms. She has a name far too long for any toddler to pronounce—Elizabeta Belnades Tepes Belmont—so what rolls off her developing tongue instead is simply “Liza”. She’s innocent now but once she leaves this little man-made paradise and ventures into a harsher world, she will take more after her mother and father. Grabbing whatever life offers with both fists, clawing and biting her way through every obstacle until her teeth are reddened with bloody meat. For the time being, they relish Liza’s soft cheeks, wispy hair, and the way she throws herself at whichever adult happens to be in her nearest vicinity. The other children are helping her socialize by playing games and embracing frivolity; a tactic Trevor remembers from his own upbringing, though with less games and even less frivolity.
“Think you can handle one or two more?”
Greta’s voice manages to cut through Trevor’s mental fog. Funny how she asks if he can “think” about anything especially at this suffocating moment. She must have noticed the way his lips curl into a happy doped up grin while observing his family and couldn’t help but inquire. As any close, loved and valued friend would.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
“What’s wrong with looking a bit further into the future? Now that we all have one.”
“Looking is one thing, but seriously suggesting is something else completely. My… performance in certain areas isn’t as up to snuff as it used to be.”
As Trevor says this, things deteriorate and get a bit fuzzier from his eyesight down to his chest. Out of focus. Painful. He keeps talking, keeps ignoring the inevitable. Always ignoring what his own body screams for.
Greta wrinkles her nose at his statement. “There are children present, Belmont.”
“What? I’m referring to the house. I barely managed to get one wall up while you’re already on the fucking roof.”
“So dramatic. You three really do deserve each other. And you’re still young.”
“On the outside, maybe.”
She laughs at his lie, misinterpreting it as another piece of mild self-deprecatory banter he might never be able to live without. Greta says something else, perhaps her own personal jest to counter his, but Trevor cannot hear. Breath grows heavier, forcing out a raspy “it’s fine. It’s just my chest”. Barely able to tell if Greta actually said anything about his sudden condition. Or rather, not so sudden. No, this has been building over quite some time now. His muscles and bones screaming, begging for relief or death, and end to everything—whichever comes first. Feelings that only worsened over the years.
Trevor loses control over his legs, now practically boneless. The collision between his head and the ground is nothing compared to the inner war over his heart. Whether it will finally succumb. Greta immediately calls for help—he thinks without confidence, once again. Trevor can still hear voices, but not their exact words. Not Sypha when she demands to know what happened. Not Alucard when he begs for him to stay conscious. Not even Liza as she cries for her papa.
Then all the chaos in the world fades into slow darkness.
--
Alucard stands outside the closed bedchamber door, contemplating how often he’s touched Trevor’s body. Lithe fingertips have memorized every crevice, scar, soft and rough spots alike. Not just as a lover with wandering hands underneath blankets in the dead of night. Or a friend who holds him steady on both feet when he needs it. But as this family’s self-appointed physician.
Perhaps the prince of two worlds took after his father after all. “Polymath” is what Alucard used to describe Dracula and the very same word others have referred to him as, mostly in the realm of medicine. He knows more than anyone, little offence given towards the herb dispensers and leech farmers (only to be polite for his own townsfolk). Thus, through the anxieties and trembling hands, Alucard gave Trevor his diagnosis: heat exhaustion along with a muscle somewhere in his chest that decided to go rogue and strain itself.
The son of Tepes, the only local doctor worth trusting, and arguably the co-leader of their little prospering hamlet paces across the hall like Trevor did the day Liza was born. He’s on the other side of that closed door, resting. Bedridden from heat exhaustion and a fucking pulled muscle. It bothers Alucard. This shouldn’t have happened to someone who stood up to the personification of Death and pissed in his eye. A stupidly common and easily treatable inconvenience to the human body shouldn’t be the end of a fucking Belmont.
It shouldn’t—unless Trevor’s scars have anything to say about it. The ones on the inside and outside. Inside, unseen, and untreatable. There’s a harsh revelation to be found there; one which the prince has been purposefully avoiding up to this moment. Alucard can try as he wants, use the tools left behind by his father and mother as though it were their final death wish, but he might never tend to what pains Trevor on the inside. He’s a Belmont, undeniably so, but Belmonts are human despite the many recurring signs pointing to the contrary. Then there’s Sypha with her magic, but she’s human as well. Greta and Liza are still human. Humans are more susceptible to dying easy, little deaths even when they follow world-saving victories.
Where does this leave Alucard? Thoughts spiral down, down towards darker places the longer he nervously hovers outside the bedroom. He’s been known to awkwardly stumble into deflection, insisting he’s only half human whenever certain someones bring up this topic of necessary conversation. Meaning he might as well not be human at all. Not when the bodies of those he loves change so rapidly while his remains petrified. It’s only been two years, filled to the brim with countless hours he wouldn’t ever want to trade for the entire world. But the thought of one night as they nestle themselves into bed and Alucard touches either Trevor or Sypha’s chest only to feel an anomaly within their hearts. The earliest sign that time and age will eventually betray them as it does for all mortals—it could be the one thing to break him.
Alucard stops himself at the opportune moment, right before he starts thinking about his mother and father. Did Dracula ever contemplate Lisa’s mortality? Was the decision to never turn her easy or the hardest thing he forced upon his unstable, immortal conscience? Arms crossed over his chest like a protective cage, fingernails digging into the fabric of his shirt until it hurts, Alucard swallows a bitter glob of spit and reaches for the doorknob. Sypha will have to accept the fact that he couldn’t wait for her. He quietly thanks her for the lessons she taught him. If he needs to talk about something—truly talk, no sarcastic wit or banter, just the raw emotions—Alucard no longer hesitates. He won’t, not as he enters the room and immediately sees Trevor still in bed, not quite altogether there. At least he can manage a decent smile and wave of his hand.
“Evening.”
“How does your chest feel?”
“Still a bit tight, but I’ve been taking deep breaths like the doctor ordered.”
The amount of strain heard in Trevor’s voice worries Alucard. Hopefully the Belmont has learned something from the recent past, so he won’t be stupid and suggest anything having to do with leaving bed or getting back to work.
 “I think I should get up.”
“I think that’s a poor decision.”
“Are you saying that as my physician or because you’re letting that pretty little blonde head of yours get too worked up?”
No. Yes. Both? If only Trevor didn’t look up at him with those glassy eyes (can he still see him?) the colour of stained glass windows erected in cathedrals he felt so unwelcome inside. If only that smile, somehow both soft and shit-eating, wasn’t in place of a more serious expression. Then maybe Alucard could voice his concerns without being accused of acting overbearing—an accusation grounded in solid evidence but he’s not ready to admit that yet. Not out loud.
“Normal, healthy adults do not become bedridden after pulling a small muscle in their chest.”
“Belmonts aren’t normal… or healthy in my case.”
Alucards brow furrows. “I want to think you’re healthy—” I need to. “—that you’ll live long enough to see the children of this village have little ones of their own. Liza included.”
“God’s sake, she’s only two years old. You and Greta, always talking about looking one step too far into the future. Let her be a child before adulthood rears its ugly maw.”
“Try not to change the subject.”
Trevor lifts his head off the indent pressed into his sweat drenched pillow. “Alright. Fine. I feel much better. I won’t push myself and give my heart some more time to recover.”
No response coupled with broken eye contact; sure signs of Alucard’s reluctance to accept his rather weak assurance. The Belmont has no other choice.
“Come here. Sit.”
Another moment’s hesitation before Alucard complies. Feeling his weight upon the mattress, Trevor blindly reaches for his wrist until calloused fingers grip cool, unblemished skin.
“Now lie down. No, no. Not like that. Place your head right here.” He pats his chest and with a fleeting amount of guidance, Alucard’s cheek fits perfectly between his breasts. Two hands smooth over the dhampir’s curves before one before one rests on his silk smooth head and the other against the small of his back. Alucard lied about one thing: his own body can change in small yet noticeable ways. Without the need to fight for the lives of others, whether today or tomorrow, sharp edges turn softer. Trevor and Sypha have finally let themselves breathe as well, let go, and enjoy all of life’s pleasures.
“Hear that?” He asks Alucard.
“... It’s slow.”
“Slow and strong like it should be.”
Alucard wishes he could bottle up that heartbeat or place it in a box. Preferably a music box to listen to its soothing melody long after its original body and soul are both eventually gone from this world. Who knows? It might make things hurt a little bit less like when he redrew his parent’s portrait or built a much larger nursery where his own used to be. Not a lot, but Alucard could possibly live with just “a little”.
“Speaking of Greta…” The baritone of Trevor’s voice sends deep vibrations through his broad chest, tickling Alucard’s cheek. “She said something about more children.”
“More orphans joining us?”
“No, even though I know how much you love those damn orphans. She asked if we could handle one or two more.”
“What did you say?”
“I implied that she was taking after Sypha’s influence by being wonderfully insane.”
Alucard chuckles in agreement. That sounds like Greta. “You never know. It might be good for Liza if she has a younger sibling.”
With the sound of Sypha’s well timed arrival, he’s mercifully saved from Trevor’s lengthy speech about how patience is apparently a virtue and tirades about his “performance” or lack thereof. Greta reveals herself shortly afterwards with a still crying Liza in tow. So many bodies gathered around one inebriated individual, here for him and him alone. Trevor’s consoled yet exasperated expression directed at Greta in particular says “isn’t there someone more important you could be helping right now?”
Sypha is the first to voice her gratitude after fussing over her exhausting loved one. “I will never be able to thank you enough, Alucard.”
“I think the bed did most of the heavy lifting, love.”
Trevor is given an affectionate, somewhat caring glare in response but his focus is demanded elsewhere once he suddenly notices Liza jumping onto the bed. She snuggles herself between him and Alucard, wetting their shirts with her tears.
“Easy there, you little monster. Papa’s still a bit tender.” Not that she can understand or care.
There’s an aura of relief felt amongst everyone in the room—less with Alucard who smiles bittersweetly. It’s a truth he knew he had to acknowledge before it tore his heart open. Trevor and Sypha will die one day and he will have to bury them. He’ll bury Greta, he might even bury Liza. Not today thank all the gods, or tomorrow, not for the next few decades if fate is kind enough.
But the day will come. And it will be Alucard’s own little death.

Cooking in the Crest (Din Djarin x gn!Reader)
Summary: You become sick of the endless prepackaged food you eat while living on the Razor Crest. From a holovid, you and Din try to learn how to cook.
W/C: 3.2k
Warnings: FOOD is a big warning here; this is all about food, cooking, and eating; some language, and mentions of violence and blood because Din is a hunter.
A/N: this was a request by lovely @binarydanvvers !! I hope you guys like it too :))
Tumblr media
The Razor Crest was not exactly built to be a home. The beat up old ship, a pre-Imperial piece of garbage, was mainly meant to be a freighter, to carry loads and supplies around. It had a bunk, yes, but that was mainly for the pilot to sleep. Some ships were elaborately built and crafted to house people, even families; this was not one of them.
You could tell that from the moment you walked aboard. This was not built to be a home, but the Mandalorian and his little green child had made it one. It was endearing, really. It was still cold and harsh, not exactly welcoming, but there were little touches. A sling for the baby to sleep in above the man’s bunk. A few scattered toys for the kid. Extra clothing tucked away, and what seemed to be a makeshift kitchen.
It can hardly be called a kitchen. It’s more of a food storage area. The Mandalorian man has stored packets of food, dried or wrapped, water, and other assorted food necessities in a small corner of the ship. There’s also a device for heating meals, like the just-add-water foods he carries so many of.
The baby doesn’t complain. Well, he really can’t, considering that he cannot speak yet, but he never pushes away the food. Of course, his favorites are frogs and occasional organic things he picks up on the surface of the latest planet, but he’s never refused a nutrient bar or an instant bread loaf. The kid is always hungry; he’ll take anything.
You’ve been traveling with Din for a while now. He entrusted you with his name not long after he entrusted you with the care of his foundling. He’s a kind man, surprising beneath the layer of impenetrable beskar, with a warm laugh even through the modulator.
In this time, you’ve become exhausted over the endless routine of microwavable carbohydrate packs with dried proteins. A nutrient bar is a nice switch, but it’s endless days and nights of bland food. “Do you even eat? Does your species photosynthesize or something?” You’d asked Din once, teasingly knocking on his beskar.
“I’m human,” he assured you, voice dry. He presents himself as tired of your endless teasing, but you both know he could never be. You’re the energy, the entertainment to him and his little green child.
“I doubt that,” you teased, nudging his hip with your own as you walked past, the baby on your other side, giggling at your words.
The kid is smart. He can’t yet speak, but he can recognize meaning in words and the emotions you convey with your tones. You’ve been steadily working on teaching him the right morphemes to form words, but he’s just not quite there yet. He made a little babbling noise at his father, then turned and looked up at you, grinning with tiny white teeth.
Din must eat, you’ve come to notice. He never takes the helmet off; you’ve never heard his voice without the modulator, you’ve never seen him eat. But the stock of food dwindles at a quicker pace than it would for one and a half people, so he must consume some of it. You’ve noticed that the dried proteins or instant spicy grains go quicker- those must be his favorite. You’ve made mental notes several times to pick up extra when shopping.
As the three of you take off from the last planet, a lively and populous city center, your stomach is happy with its contents: you and the baby had gone on a culinary tour, trying different local delicacies. You glance at the kitchenette in the corner and wince at the protein bars. Surely you’ll be reduced to eating the dry and chalky sustenance the next time you’re hungry.
The baby sits in your lap, bouncing excitedly as the ship lifts off. He coos and waves his hands excitedly as Din turns and navigates, though it’s nothing too bumpy for the little thing to handle. There’s a jolt when you leave the atmosphere, and the baby squeals as the stars rush past when Din maneuvers the Crest into hyperspace.
Once the course is set, Din turns to you. You wonder what he’s thinking; it’s a shame you can’t see his face. “We should be at our next location in about a day.”
Your curiosity gets the better of you, heightened over the prospect of eating more dried, flavorless food. “Do you know how to cook?”
“Do I know how to what?” Din asks, cocking his head.
“Cook. You know, make food in a way other than using the microwave.”
Din stares at you for a minute. “No, I really don’t. I’ve never had reason to.”
“You don’t consider eating this bland shit eternally a reason?” You ask, folding your arms. The little green baby on your lap mirrors your actions, looking at his father. “I don’t either, but I think we both need to learn. I’m sick of this endless dried food and nutrient bars and instant grains.”
His shoulders rise and fall as he takes a deep breath. “Fine. How?”
“How what?” You ask, taunting him back from his earlier sarcastic question.
“How are we going to learn how to cook?”
You shrug. “We could take a cooking class on some populous planet. They have them for couples.”
Din looks at you, sharply even though you can’t see his face. “Okay, well, two people,” you chuckle, though you can’t help but notice the rigidity of his body. You’re skilled at reading his body language by now; something changed in him when you said couple. “Why the hell not?”
“Because, cyar’ika, I am a Mandalorian. I’m not exactly going to fit in with the happy honeymooners at a cooking class, searing bantha for my beloved.”
You frown at him. “You’re such a pain in the ass, Din. Work with me here.”
Din is frowning beneath the helmet. You can just tell. “I don’t exactly take orders from you.”
“It’s not an order,” you roll your eyes. “It’s a request. Please.”
Din sighs. He’s quiet for a minute. Then: “Fine.”
“Yay!” You grin and brace his beskar helmet in one hand, pressing a kiss to the visor. “It’ll be fun, come on.”
“I don’t know how fun that can be,” he grumbles.
-
The holonet turns out to be a surprisingly vast resource for cooking and recipes. You’d never expected this much to be uploaded to it. There are traditional dishes from Tatooine, Naboo, anywhere really. The first struggle is deciding what to cook.
You stop at another populous planet next. Thank the Maker, you mumble as you put the baby in the wrap carrier that straps him to your chest. “We’re gonna make something good, huh kiddo?” You ask and smooch the baby’s little green head. He just coos in return.
Wandering through the planet, you find various little specialty shops, and you mark off the list you’ve created. Spices from the shop specializing in them, fresh vegetables at a stall, meat from a grocer. When the foods are all collected, you return to the ship, where Din has purchased a portable heat source to be used for cooking.
The business Din has on the planet goes quickly and he’s back before you know it. You’ve barely had time to clean the vegetables under the small refresher sink before you hear the clink of beskar and the baby’s excited laughter at his return.
You carry the bowl of vegetables and grin as you spot Din on a crate in the corner, wiping down his armor of blood. “Welcome home, bounty hunter,” you tease as you arrange some crates to form a table and chairs and set the holoprojector in the center. “How’d we do today?”
“Wonderful,” he grumbles as he wipes a smear of mud off his chest plate. He finishes then looks at your arms, holding the ingredients. You set them down and the hot plate as well. “We’re cooking now?”
“I’m hungry,” you shrug.
Din nods. “I suppose. Do you want me to get piloting us out of here and then we can start?”
You shrug again. “We paid for a full day and night. Might as well use it.”
He nods and begins removing his beskar, leaving him in just his flight suit and helmet. You cock an eyebrow at him and tilt your head in confusion. “Don’t wanna get any food on the beskar.”
This makes you genuinely laugh, throwing your head back. “Oh, blood and dirt and mud are okay but no food? You have some odd standards, Din.”
No one has called him by his name since he was a child. You’ve never even said it aloud save for once or twice. The sound of your voice saying it is like the sweetest music; he could listen to it eternally. He’s a little nervous inside, tingly and fluttery from the feeling. Thank the Maker his helmet doesn’t let it show.
“Go wash your hands and let’s get going,” you order him, stacking two extra crates and setting the child on top so he’s the same height as the two of you. He’s delighted by the view, looking around.
You put the vessel on the hot plate then turn it on, unsure of how quickly it heats. Din returns not long later, sitting on his crate across from you. “First step?”
To answer his question, you turn on the holovid. A cheerful Zabrak narrates for you and shows you the steps, starting with the first: to chop the ingredients. Din reaches for his leg and you shoot him a glare, pausing the video. “You were not about to use that knife to prepare our dinner.”
Din just looks at you. “Why not?”
“God, you’re impossible,” you laugh, though it’s lighthearted teasing. “No, use this, a clean one.” You hand it over along with a few vegetables. Din starts cutting with neat precision, the yellow tuber vegetable falling in perfectly round slices to the surface you’d laid down before.
The baby whines in protest; he wants in. Looking around, you scramble for something before giving him the softest vegetable and a plastic utensil. “How’s that?” You ask him.
He’s delighted, slicing his vegetable and mirroring his parents and the video. When the step is finished, you press play again and it informs you to add some of the oil and cook the vegetables first.
Din pours them in, causing a sizzle from the hot cooking vessel. “Ooh, it must be ready,” you grin and drizzle some oil over the top.
“I don’t think that’s the order we were supposed to do it,” he points out, rewinding the video.
“Oh well,” you shrug and stir the vegetables. The aromatic plants waft from the steam, making you sigh in happiness at how wonderful the recipe smells, even now. “Can you smell under there?”
Din shakes his head.
You frown. “I’ll close my eyes. Lift your helmet and take a smell, it’s delicious.” You squeeze them shut as if to prove you’ll do it.
He would never trust anyone else like this. He’s surprised he even trusts you enough, but he unlatches his helmet and lifts it just enough to catch a whiff of the delicious smell. He sighs happily too and puts the helmet back on. “You can look again.”
You open your eyes and smile at him. “Well, we’re not doing terribly! What’s next?”
The video plays a little longer, telling you the next steps: add the spices to the cooking vegetables, stirring them in, then the broth you’ve purchased.
Picking up the bag, you rummage through for the intended spices. “You wanna do this part?” You ask Din.
“I’ll probably mess up.”
“Give it a shot,” you say with a warm smile and hand him several small pouches of spices and a measuring stick.
His fingers are thick and worn without the gloves, and the sight of them pinching the bright orange powder and sprinkling some in the pot is truly humanizing, indicative that this man is Din, not The Mandalorian like you knew him as before. He does that with the required spices, choosing to go by heart rather than the measured values.
You go next, adding the broth to the pot and closing your eyes to listen to the beautiful hiss of the liquid against the hot metal. “Do you think you could cook on beskar?” You tease Din. The man just shakes his head.
The recipe then indicates for you to cut up the meat and add it before covering and letting it boil. Din uses the sharp knife you’ve provided to once again, neatly slice the meat and add it to the pan. “You’re quite precise with that thing,” you inform him with an impressed nod.
He snorts. “I know the ten quickest ways to kill someone with it.”
“Still, precise to do that,” you laugh. You cover the pot and sigh, setting a timer on the holopad to the amount of time needed before the meal will be ready; thanks to the specialized tech in the hot plate, it won’t take long at all.
The baby shows you his knife work with the mushed vegetable. It’s considerably less impressive than Din’s, but you ooh and ahh over it all the same, making the baby beam with pride. “Your knife work rivals your father’s, little man,” you tease the baby and poke his side.
“Yeah right,” he snorts again and leans back against the metal wall of the Razor Crest’s hull.
While the food carries on its quick cooking, you prepare three bowls and spoons to eat with, setting each in front of where the three of you sit. The bowl is much smaller for the child, but he seems just as pleased.
The timer dings and you clap your hands together in excitement. “Let’s see!”
Lifting the lid, the smell that wafts out makes your stomach growl. “Oh, this is going to be good,” you sigh, setting the lid aside on the heatproof surface and scooping some into each bowl. “Careful, it’s hot,” you warn your boys as you a hand them their respectful bowls.
“It sounds wonderful but… you know I can’t eat it,” Din reminds you.
That makes you frown. “Of course you can. We made it together.”
“No,” he sighs. “I can’t eat it because I’d have to remove my helmet.”
The idea crosses your mind as quickly as his words. “Well then.” You stand and push your crate aside, then pull him up and do the same. With your bowl of stew in hand, you plop down on the floor and turn your back to him. “Now you sit with your back to me.”
“Cyare, I-“
“Just humor me, Din. Please.”
He sighs and gets on the floor, groaning at the creak of his joints and popping of his back. Din presses his back to yours, sitting with his legs splayed carelessly to either side. “There. This what you wanted?”
“Yes,” you nod. “Now eat. I won’t look, and the kid is your foundling, he can see you.”
Din is hesitant at first. He sits there for a moment while the baby slurps his dinner, pondering what to do. Then he remembers how much he trusts yoh. How you’d do anything for him and he’d do anything for you.
He removes his helmet, setting it to the floor with a heavy clunk. “There we go,” you smile and reach behind you to pat his chest. “Eat up. I bet you’re hungry from that hunt.”
“Hungrier from making this,” he grumbles as he scoops a spoonful, ungracefully shoving it in his mouth and moaning in content. “Oh, that’s damn good.”
“Isn’t it?” You laugh, eating some yourself and smiling at the flavor. “Seasoned just right,” you affirm him, resting your head back against his own. You can feel that he has hair- well, now you know he isn’t bald.
“Cooked properly thanks to you,” he reminds you.
“Ha! I don’t know shit about cooking. Thank that holovid,” you chuckle, nestling your back against his. You can feel every little notch of his spine, the lumps in a perfect line cascading down his body, as his back presses against yours. He’s warm, and you can feel him breathe in and out slowly- he’s relaxed. Good.
There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you as you eat your meals. The kid has long finished his tiny bowl and has passed out in his seat, which makes you laugh. He’s missing the sight of his helmetless father thanks to a post-meal nap.
No words need to be exchanged. There’s meaning in the silence, in the fact that you can hear his breathing and his real voice, the hard gulp of his throat as he swallows yet another bite. Maker, he’s so wonderfully human. You absolutely adore it.
When you’re done with your stew, you set your bowl to the side. Din does the same, and his back relaxes against yours. Neither of you are quite ready for him to put the helmet back on, so you breathe the unfiltered air with him, listen and feel him breathing, try to take in every detail of what his body feels like pressed to yours, even if it’s back to back.
“Din?” You ask softly after a few moments.
“Yes, cyare?”
“I promise my eyes are closed,” you tell him.
“What do you mean-“
Din is cut off when you close your eyes but turn, kissing his cheek. You can feel stubble beneath your lips, and above it smooth skin. God, he feels so damn warm. With your eyes still closed, you hug his neck. “Thank you for putting up with me.”
Din breathes slowly, forcing his heart rate not to accelerate into hyperspeed. “It’s not putting up with you,” he admits. “It’s enjoying you. I really do.”
The words make you flushed and flustered, honored that this strong and silent type has used such eloquent words to compliment you. “Thank you. For all of this, Din. Thank you for letting me know you.”
He’s grinning ear to ear, and he turns his face to kiss your cheek back. “You can know me all you want to, mesh’la.” Din puts his hands over your arms and takes one last moment in your arms. “Well, we need to put the child to bed, and I’m legally supposed to be wearing my helmet right now.”
You turn and sit with your back to him, smiling and nearly giddy from the moment. “Who’s gonna yell at you if you don’t? Mando police?”
Din groans and puts his helmet back on, ignoring you. When you both stand, you hug him for real this time, chests pressed together. “Thank you for a wonderful meal,” he mumbles through the modulator and presses his forehead to yours in a keldabe kiss. “Let’s do this more often.”
“I agree,” you nod and kiss his helmet one last time.

Your test comes back blue.
When you rip open the envelope containing your results, you find the little coloured square hidden between pages and pages of lab protocols, testing procedures and other nonsense you know no one actually has the time to read. Then there are the stupid pamphlets, the ones with overtly bright and bubbly messages reassuring people that they’ll find their “special someone” soon, slogans most likely written by people who found their soulmates before they even turned twenty. You scoff, shoving the useless papers back into the envelope and recalling the first time you tested back in 1945, right after the war. The receptionist wrote your results down on a piece of paper and nonchalantly told you to have your emotional breakdown outside.
Now you stare at the blue marking on your paper blankly. It simply means you haven’t aged biologically in ten years, but when you haven’t aged in decades, it means nothing. While the world progresses, you remain frozen in the same body, playing a cruel game with fate. And as with any game that one cannot win, you’ve slowly become bored with it, allowing it to take its course while you sit idle nearby. You feel only disappointed, and not even perplexed or surprised in the slightest. Something about meeting Jaemin just seemed too good to be true; after a lifetime of misfortune and failure, something about the bad news feels… expected. Inevitable. As if unconsciously, you knew he wasn’t the one.
Na Jaemin is not your soulmate. And you spend the walk home contemplating how you’ll tell him this.
When you unlock the door to your shared apartment, you know he’s already home, and earlier than usual: his shoes are placed meticulously on the rack by the door and his jacket is hung up next to the messenger bag he takes to work. The living room smells faintly of the pine and vanilla candle you bought last month, and you smell traces of shampoo and bodywash from the bathroom.
“I’m home!” you call out as you kick your shoes off and put them neatly next to Jaemin’s. There’s a muffled response of your name before the door to your room opens. Then his arms are around you, his face buried in the crook of your neck as he mumbles a tired greeting.
“Bad day?” You ask softly, pushing all your other thoughts to the back of your head. He looks exhausted. His hair is tucked messily under the hood of his navy sweater, still damp from the shower he took earlier. His eyes lack the usual brightness you often find yourself so immersed in, replaced with the fatigue and weariness he almost never brings home.
“I hate this company,” he sighs as you run your fingers through his hair. You feel him relax in your arms a bit. “My boss is a dick, everyone in my department hates each other and the coffee tastes like actual ass. Maybe I should just quit while I still can.”
You frown. “Jaem, you’ve been with them for literally a month. You can’t possibly be thinking about quitting already.”
“A month! A month in and I’m already having mental breakdowns under my desk at lunch. Imagine what will become of me if I spend a year there,” he scowls, but his expression softens when you kiss him reassuringly on the cheek. “Alright, alright, fine, maybe not quit, maybe I’ll just take a long, long, vacation and then retire… Move to the countryside with you…” He trails off dreamily and for a moment, you lose yourself in the fantasy he’s painted for you. The mental image of a quaint house by the ocean is quickly shattered when you remember the test results hidden in your bag. The sunflowers you envisioned surrounding the cottage are blown away in the wind, their bright yellow petals swallowed by the blueness of the sky.
“Oh, you wish,” you laugh, quickly pressing your lips to his in hopes that he won’t see your expression, that he won’t see the sadness and regret you’re fighting to suppress. “Maybe, baby, maybe one day we can do that.”
“Maybe,” he laughs, his face lighting up with the energy and liveliness that has been missing. “But enough about me. How was your day, love?”
“Mm. The same old,” you say, pulling out of his arms so you can finally take your jacket off. You crash into the couch where you fold up your scarf and toss it aside. “Stressful.”
He stares at you for a hard moment, visibly concerned as if he can tell there’s something troubling on your mind. “Is something the matter?” He asks carefully, sitting down next to you. He holds you at arm’s length so he can look at you properly. “Is this about the test?”
“What? Oh, no, not the test. I doubt the results will come in until sometime next week.” The lie slips out easier than it should, and you feel guilt slowly start to twist your insides. Just a white lie, you tell yourself. It can’t hurt anyone but yourself. He’s been through enough today. He’s tired. Not tonight. It can wait. “I’m just tired,” you shrug. “I need some dinner and a nap, then I’ll be all good again. Do we still have anything in the fridge or should we order takeout?”
“I already ordered chicken from Yong’s. I had a feeling that today would be a bad day for the both of us,” Jaemin grins. His smile is smug at first, then endearing when he sees your shock.
You practically pounce on him in excitement, and the two of you go crashing into the couch cushions until you have him pinned beneath you. “Oh my god, I fucking love you, you know that?”
Jaemin groans, curling into himself as he gives you a wounded look. “And that’s how you show your love? By trying to break my bones?”
“Besides the point,” you huff. “You aren’t going to say it back?”
“Yes, of course. I love you too.”
Unsatisfied with his answer, you lower your face so your lips are hovering just inches above his. He looks up at you starry-eyed, his fingers ghosting over your cheeks; you can’t help but notice the way his gaze travels briefly to your lips.
Then you realize how dangerous this is. You know that he’s not the one. You know that you’ll eventually part ways with him when he finds out, no matter how reluctant you’ll feel. Every moment you spend with him like this will come back to haunt you when he’s gone. It will become another reminder of what you’re about to lose, yet here you are, falling deeper into his embrace, intoxicated by his scent and lost in the depth of his eyes. You are only tying more strings between the two of you, strings that will need to be stretched and snapped. You are only making it more painful for the both of you.
But for tonight, you don’t care.
“Say it like you mean it,” you whisper.
He holds your face gently, and those sparks you felt upon your first meeting with him are still there, igniting each time he looks at you, blazing into an open flame when he tells you, “I love you.”
You kiss him with more urgency this time, your lips meeting his in a clash of teeth and tongue. He puts his hands around your waist and pulls you impossibly closer to him. For just a moment, you’re focused on only him and his presence. For just a moment, you forget about everything; the sheet of test results is just another piece of paper in your bag, the blue mark just another colour. Because tonight, he is all that matters to you.

You met Na Jaemin almost three years ago.
Though the details have faded with time, you remember your first conversation well. It began at a friend’s art show beneath the golden glow of the studio lights, the two of you surrounded by brilliant splashes of colour and bold strokes of texture. Renjun had insisted on introducing you to Jaemin before you even arrived at the gallery, and you couldn’t have possibly refused. Your friendship with Renjun goes way back to the 40s, and you often think he knows you better than you know yourself. “I think he could be good for you,” he told you quietly just before leaving to speak with his other guests.
At first, Jaemin seemed timeless. It was as if he didn’t belong to any particular time period, as if he had lived to see several generations rise and fall, but had never risen or fallen with any of them. Dressed elegantly in a fitted turtleneck and a wool coat, he appeared youthful and contemporary; yet the way he spoke hinted at a certain maturity, at wisdom and sagacity. There was something charming about him too, something about the way he recounted events of the past and drew you in with only his words.
Next to a breathtaking oil painting of the sea, you discovered your commonalities. He was almost two decades younger, but like you, had spent his entire life searching for a partner without much success. You were delighted to learn that he had also worked in teaching—though he mentioned changing careers frequently whenever things became too mundane. He was effortlessly intriguing, and every word he spoke was lively and animated. He infused your conversations with colours, painted everything in bright yellows and aquamarines that matched the swirling paint strokes of the artworks around you, left you wanting to know more without even trying.
You left the gallery that night with his number in your coat pocket. Needless to say, Renjun was thrilled.
Weeks passed before you saw him again. Your busy schedules always managed to get in the way of your plans, but the two of you still kept in touch, chatting late into the night and well into the early hours. As the months went by, you dared to hope that maybe he was the one.
You immediately scolded yourself for being naive. With all your past partners, you had been hopeful in the same way, only to be let down in the end. Your test when you were with Donghyuck came back blue, as did the one with Mark. Both have since moved on, found their soulmates and written their happy endings. Even if you still stay in touch and meet up for an occasional coffee, you know that you are only a distant memory to them in some way or another.
The prospect of the same thing happening with Jaemin had never occurred to you—you’d been so caught up in getting to know him, so blinded that you’d completely forgotten. And then you saw him differently. As if he were a flame that could be snuffed out in an instant, a feather that could be sent flying with the slightest breeze, the slightest breath. You mulled over it for weeks and always did so silently, until it finally came up in conversation.
Almost a year had passed since you’d met him. With the summer coming to an end, the two of you had driven down to the Han River where you sat in the open trunk of his car, sharing a can of cheap beer from the convenience store. There were no words, only the faint melody of an old pop song buzzing from your phone and his hand around yours.
“Move in with me,” he said at last, glancing at you expectantly, trying to gauge your reaction. It wasn’t completely out of the blue—you’d been searching for a new apartment for weeks—but it still took you by surprise. “Too fast?” He asked when he registered your shock.
“No, not at all,” you shook your head and squeezed his hand. “Don’t get me wrong Jaem, I’d love to. It’s just, I don’t know about any of this. About us. If we’re actually…”
He hummed a quiet response, his brows furrowing slightly in contemplation. “Soulmates,” he said with a melancholic sigh. “You don’t want to go any further before we know for certain. I understand.”
You nodded. “It always hurts, you know? You think you’ve finally found them only to realize you’ve been completely wrong the whole time.”
“I know,” he said, and his empathy flooded you with warmth and reassurance. “You always think you’ll be prepared for the next time. You always think it will hurt less as time goes by. But it doesn’t.”
“Exactly.”
You tipped the last of the beer into your mouth; it tasted faintly sweet on your tongue before dissolving into a pleasant bitterness that hit the back of your throat. When you were finished, Jaemin took the empty can and fiddled with the tab, bending it back and forth until it snapped off.
“I want it to be you,” he told you after a few minutes of silence. “I want it to be us.”
“And if we aren’t?”
He kissed you, hard enough for you to see stars. It wasn’t desperate or longing, but it seemed to convey a hundred different thoughts all at once, a hundred different emotions for you to decipher. When he finally pulled away, his voice was thoughtful and he was seemingly lost in a pleasant daydream. “Oh, love, the universe has already cursed us to search eternally. We may as well spend eternity together.”
“Seriously, Jaemin, what if we aren’t?”
The tremor of your voice snapped him out of it. The glimmer of hope disappeared from his pupils and the dream slipped from his hands.
“We’ve been alive for so long,” you continued, trying to keep your voice steady. “I don’t think I can go on like this. What if we aren’t meant to be? What will we do?”
You didn’t regret your time with Donghyuck or Mark or Jungwoo or any of the people you were lucky enough to have met, but you’d watched all of them from afar, watched them grow while you stayed frozen in time. Each new generation that came along was only a reminder of your loneliness. You felt a certain emptiness each time you invited new people into your life, one that deepened when they eventually left you behind. Or worse, when they gave you their pity. You couldn’t stand it when people told you that it was unfair or that you deserved better, all while they lived comfortably with their soulmates. You weren’t jealous, nor could you ever be angry at them for something beyond their control. Your anger was directed at the invisible forces that toyed with the world, the mischievous hands spinning the universe in some strange direction that left only you disoriented.
His expression took on a faint sadness and when he spoke again, his voice was calm, barely a whisper. “Then so be it. If you need to move on, it would be selfish of me to stop you from doing so.” He stared out at the waters wistfully, at the yachts sailing downstream. “And besides, you’re right. Maybe it’s time we settle down… even if it’s not with each other.”
Your birthday came a few months after that night, but you held off on testing. The bus you took home from work passed by one of the labs, but you never got off at the stop, always watched the doors open and close from your seat. The test isn’t that accurate anyways, you told yourself; it could produce only an approximate biological age, so maybe the longer you waited, the better.
But in the end, it was simply an excuse to escape reality, to avoid your confrontation with fate itself.
Tumblr media
You moved in with him just before the end of the year.
New Year’s Eve wasn’t a big deal for you (you’d lived through too many for it to be exciting), but you spent the last minutes of the year with him, surrounded by cardboard boxes waiting to be unpacked. Jaemin had still made some sort of effort at festivities despite your indifference: pale pink and gold candles lit around the living room, golden champagne in delicate glasses set on the table.
You were almost asleep when the clock struck twelve, wrapped up in one of his oversized sweaters and a white throw blanket. The celebratory music blaring from the TV was muffled in your ears, a pleasant symphony that lulled you deeper into sleep until Jaemin awoke you with a kiss.
“Happy New Year, Y/N.”
“Happy New Year, Jaem,” you mumbled, a smile ghosting your lips as you focused on the comfort you felt in his arms; on the new year, on your new home, new hope.
Tumblr media
You know something’s wrong.
Jaemin doesn’t come out to greet you, even after you announce your arrival. He’s home—his shoes and coat are put away neatly like any other day—yet it’s deathly silent, terribly still. No music playing in the living room, no voice down the hallway. Only the occasional chirp from your broken smoke detector, which you’ve been meaning to fix for weeks. As you bend down to unlace your boots, you can’t help but worry.
You find him in your shared bedroom, sitting cross-legged on the comforter. The sun has almost set and the shadows stretch across the room, blanketing him in darkness and masking his expression with ambiguity. He doesn’t move when you turn on the lamp on the bedside table. He doesn’t move when you sit next to him.
There’s a familiar sheet of paper in his hands.
“Jaem, I…”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
It isn’t accusatory or hostile; his voice is laced with nothing but sadness, yet you feel so much guilt, guilt that closes around your throat and squeezes the air out of your lungs, leaving you breathless. You kept it from him for days, and now this is the way he must find out about it. From a piece of paper you were careless enough to leave where he might find it. From a piece of paper detailing the DNA extracted from a sample of your blood. You should have told him.
“I didn’t know how to,” you let out a shaky breath. “I didn’t mean to.”
“Are you serious?” There it is, the cold edge that begins creeping into his voice as he stares down at you. He flicks a finger in the direction of the date printed at the top of the paper. “It’s been a week, Y/N. You kept this from me for a week. Why?”
“I just couldn’t bring myself to tell you, okay?” It comes out sharper than you intended; you immediately begin to drown in guilt as soon as you see Jaemin’s expression fall. You didn’t mean to lash out, and now you make up for it by taking his hands in yours. They're ice cold. “Look, the day I found out, you were already tired from work. I didn’t want to bring it up and make everything worse—”
“So you lied. Said the results hadn’t come in yet,” he says flatly and you rush to defend yourself, only to realize that he’s right.
“I’m sorry.”
The rest of your words don’t come. With a tired exhale, you bury your head in your hands, too overwhelmed to say anything else. You can only hope that he’ll understand, that he’ll empathize and that he’ll forgive you, even if you don’t exactly believe you deserve any of it right now. You hold back the tears. Only when he pulls you into his arms do they fall. He takes your hands, gently pulling them away from your face so he can wipe your tears despite your protests. There’s no coldness in his expression now, only concern.
“I needed time to process everything,” you continue, but you choke on the words. “I couldn’t even accept it myself, I couldn’t—”
“I know, love,” he says quietly as his thumb brushes against your cheek. “I know. It’s alright.”
Your silent sniffles turn into unrestrained sobs as he pulls you into his embrace, your pent-up emotions finally released in the form of silvery streams on your cheeks. You aren’t sure how much time passes. The sun meets the horizon in a hazy line of faint pink and orange. The sky darkens. Outside, the city lights up in a multitude of hues, the amber light from the street below seeping into your room. The minutes go by, but Jaemin never lets go of you until your tears have run dry.
“Better?” He asks, albeit his voice is shaky, his gaze trembling when he looks up at you. You nod.
“We’ll figure this out,” his eyes seem to say. You can tell he’s just as terrified as you are, just as unsure and as lost. Though for now, you simply hold each other. You say nothing about the paper that lays discarded on the floor or what it entails, even if you both feel the need to address it, to face its implications. In this moment of brokenness, neither of you have the strength to do so.
You eventually collect yourselves. You make dinner and force yourselves to eat before passing a meaningless hour in front of the TV. You clean up, wash up. Sleep early in preparation for tomorrow. Jaemin never leaves your side.
“Where do we go from here?” You whisper into the darkness of your bedroom.
“Tomorrow, love,” you hear him say just before slipping into unconsciousness, into restless sleep.
Tumblr media
According to Lee Donghyuck, the chances of meeting your soulmate are 1 in 10 000. Or at least, scientifically. Theoretically. Donghyuck was a man of logic and reason, and had your lives not revolved around soulmates like the earth revolved around the sun, perhaps he wouldn’t have believed in fate at all.
“Remove fate from the equation,” Donghyuck mumbled to himself thoughtfully, jotting a few numbers down on a paper napkin. “And let’s assume your soulmate is around your age.”
“Can’t you rule that one out too?” You pointed out,  but he was too busy, already lost in his thoughts.
“If your soulmate is determined at birth and instantly recognizable at first sight… And they’re actually alive somewhere in the world…”
You watched the quick movements of his blue pen with intrigue. He spun the pen restlessly, allowing its barrel to cross over and under and between his fingers, at times so quickly that it became nothing but a blur of colour. Finally, he scribbled a final verdict and inked two definitive circles around it. “If fate hadn’t been so kind, the chances would have been one in ten thousand. One lifetime out of ten thousand.”
“That slim? Ten thousand lifetimes, that’s nearly impossible,” you said, skeptical but amused at his train of thought nonetheless. You took the napkin from him and looked over his calculations, though some of the numbers were too big for you to check without a calculator. You trusted that Donghyuck had done them correctly though. “You know, if you told that to someone who’d spent a century searching for their soulmate, they’d probably beat you up. You’re lucky I like you.”
He giggled. “We’re lucky it’s only hypothetical.” He took the napkin from you and crumpled it, smudging the neon blue ink on the tips on his fingers.
With Donghyuck, things were simpler. He was young, young enough to not be in a hurry, young enough to speak his thoughts so freely. He never pitied you or worried about offending you, and he never treated you as if you were out of place among the new generations. He offered you perspective. You knew that you weren’t meant for each other, but you were still content to spend your time with each other. To wait together.
Tumblr media
“So… I might have found a new place.”
You don’t miss the surprise on Jaemin’s face when you tell him over dinner. His eyes widen a bit in curiosity, his brows arching upwards and his mouth falling slightly agape. He sets his fork down against his plate, folding his hands together the way he does when he’s deep in thought.
“Already?” He inquires. Maybe you imagine a hint of disappointment in his voice, a slight dip in his tone. He looks at you with a sort of sadness, as if trying to imagine what it would be like with you gone, to come home to an empty apartment every night. “Seriously, Y/N, you’re welcome to stay if you need to. We said we would take the changes slowly.” His words aren’t just out of consideration for you.
More than a month has gone by silently, and within that time, the frigid cold of winter has finally given way to spring. Nothing has really changed when you think about it, as if your test results are meaningless. And you suppose that they have become just that, a meaningless scrap of paper at the bottom of the recycling bin in the kitchen. Jaemin still holds you the same way, though his touches are just a little bit more fleeting. Your conversations still extend late into the night, though they feel just slightly melancholic. You hang onto his every word even while telling yourself not to, that maybe there is no point in doing so when everything is already coming to an end.
“I don’t know if I’ll take it… at least not for sure. And even if I do, I won’t be moving in until April. I just thought I’d tell you ahead of time,” you tell him, reaching across the table to take his hand. “I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I think I need some time alone. So I can adjust to all of this.”
“No, I understand. It’s just a little jarring, you know? Don’t know what it’ll be like without you here.”
“It’s literally only a block away,” you giggle, and he smiles. “I’ll still be here.”
After the coolness of February comes grey skies and a drizzly March, heavy rainfall washing the white snow to grey slush. Eventually, the clouds part across the sky for the sun, allowing the brilliant blue of the sky to peek through. April comes sooner than expected, producing blooms of yellow and white in the flowery courtyards of your new apartment complex, bursts of bright colours along the cobblestone paths.
You stand surrounded by boxes in the middle of your new studio apartment, watching the people pass by on the streets below. The windows are cracked open for air and you can hear the bustle outside, the yells of the street vendors, an occasional shriek of a child’s laughter. The new bedframe and mattress you ordered stand leaning against the wall in the corner, waiting to be assembled. Jaemin stumbles through the door with another box and sets it down before dusting his hands off on his jeans.
“That’s the last one,” he says. He collapses on the couch that the previous owner left behind, out of breath. You sit down next to him, allowing him to rest his head on your lap. He finally looks around, then at you. “Everything you hoped for?”
You nod happily. “I’ll miss having you around though,” you chuckle, playing with the soft strands of his hair, freshly dyed—after losing a drunken bet to Renjun a week ago, he reluctantly let the latter bleach and tone his hair bright silver. But you think it suits him; it accentuates the darkness of his eyes and paleness of his skin, gives him a cold and chic edge offset by the gentleness of his smile.
“I’ll still be here,” he repeats your words from two months ago. “And you’ll be much closer to work, right? No more crazy subway routes and early mornings. At the cost of me being your personal alarm clock, of course.” He grins, and you smack him with a red throw pillow.
“I won’t miss that,” you roll your eyes teasingly.
“Whatever you say, love.” He lifts his head off your lap to press a kiss against your cheek.
You spend the rest of the afternoon with him, unpacking boxes, hanging up clothes, building the bedframe and fitting the mattress with clean sheets so that at least you’ll have somewhere to sleep tonight. When the sun sets, everything is lit in an ethereal glow, and you stare out the floor-length windows, admiring the sky. Jaemin joins you after a moment, wrapping his arms around you as the two of you rock back and forth to the steady rhythm of the music playing from his phone.
When he leaves in the evening, he gives you a final hug, jokingly telling you not to miss him too much. When he’s gone, you find yourself staring out the window once more, at the blocky silhouette of Jaemin’s building a few blocks away. He pointed it out earlier, thrilled that you could see so far from this high up.
You quickly learn that on cloudy days, it is nothing but a smudge of grey in the distance.

While Donghyuck always tried to ease your worries with reason and strokes of pen ink on his skin, Mark took you on long drives around the city, hoping that the wind blowing through your hair would clear your mind.
On late nights when you couldn’t sleep, you often found yourself in the passenger seat of his 1975 Hyundai Pony, listening to static-laced 80s rock music while he drove you around the streets of Seoul. He would always roll the windows down in the summer and watch the contentment on your face, one hand around yours while the other guided the wheel.
Mark Lee was even older than you—and with all the wars and tragedies he’d lived through, he understood what it felt like to be kept awake by the nightmares. To be kept awake by thoughts of loved ones being blown to bits, to be haunted with memories of the past. With how long he’d been searching for the right person, he knew the urgency you felt and the longing to finally settle down with a soulmate. He understood.
The stories he told you were woven between puffs of cigarette smoke and gentle kisses on your forehead. He told you about Canada and the mountains that surrounded Vancouver, where he’d spent some time in the 40s. He told you about his family, about his brother’s grandchildren who looked older than he did. It was strange, he’d admitted with a small laugh and sadness in his smile.
The two of you often pointed out buildings along the side of the road, reminiscing what stood in their place before the bulldozers and big trucks rolled in. Just down the street from his apartment, the old drive-in cinema was being replaced by an upscale theatre. Next to it, a park was being cleared for a new shopping centre. Even the studio he’d rented out last summer had been demolished so a new entertainment agency could build its empire. Once in a while, he would drive by and stare ruefully at the construction site—the classical compositions he’d once recorded there were being replaced by a new type of music, with catchy beats and pretty pop stars dressed in shiny outfits.
His music had been drowned out by a new industry, and likewise, many of the things you remembered from your childhood have been lost to time. Talking about the past with him helped you remember. It was a sort of reassurance even as you moved on.
Mark eased a bit of your pain, staying out with you until the early hours of morning to make sure that you were alright. The next morning, he would almost always call to ask if you’d slept okay, unless there was an issue with the old landline phone in his office. All concept of time disappeared when you were with him, along with your memories and the demons haunting your dreams. But eventually, he would drop you off at home and bid you goodnight, leaving you to watch him drive away. Eventually, the night came to an end.
He couldn’t stay with you the whole night, nor could he stay with you forever.

Your evenings are often interrupted by Jaemin’s messages asking you to come over. Sometimes he says that he misses you, or he wants to see you for dinner. Other times, he kisses you breathless against the closed door as soon as you’ve stepped inside, always with an unmatched fervour and urgency as if you might slip right through his grasp and disappear.
Tonight, however, it’s neither.
It’s half past midnight when your phone is set off in a series of quick vibrations. Wrapped in nothing but a towel with your hair still dripping, you type in a reply, hesitate, press send. You get changed, slipping into a pair of jeans and an oversized T-shirt before grabbing your keys.
Jaemin is uncharacteristically quiet when he opens the door for you, his gaze downcast so you can’t see his expression. He’s deteriorating; you can see it in the way he turns his back to you after locking the door, the way he walks inside with a halfhearted invitation for you to follow.
“What’s wrong?” You ask when you’ve sat down across from him.
“I think I found them,” he mumbles and you notice how he averts your gaze. “My soulmate, I mean. I think I found her.”
“Wait, then why with the long face? Jaem, that’s great—”
He cuts you off with a sharp bark of emotionless laughter. His expression turns bitter when he pulls his sleeve up to reveal a mark along his wrist: two linear streaks of dark purple that twist together like the centre petals of a rose. He stares at it, almost with contempt. Apart from the standardized DNA tests, markings are the only other way to identify soulmates, though they almost never show. No one has any proper explanation for them and you have no explanation for why Jaemin has one now.
“Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s great. She’s smart. She’s funny. We have the same mark so I know it’s her,” he says shakily. “But god, I must have really fucked up in a past life to deserve this.”
You feel dread. It hits you all at once, because the way Jaemin speaks is so distant and unnerving, as if he’s lost himself in a trance and forgotten all about you. You’ve seen this dazed look before, only twice, when he was truly distressed and truly lost. This isn’t like him.
He found her. He should be happy. You should be happy for him. He should be happy.
“What is it?”
“I think I’m broken. Something’s wrong with me.”
“What do you mean?” You ask, and you try to keep the urgency out of your voice for his sake. He doesn’t say anything. “Jaemin?”
“I don’t feel anything when I’m with her. Nothing.”
You don’t register his words. They don’t make any sense to you. They are barely coherent. No, you think. That can’t be possible.
“Maybe we rejected each other in a past life and then both offed ourselves. Or maybe this is just the universe’s way of saying ‘fuck you.’ Maybe—”
“Stop that,” you tell him firmly. “Whatever this is, there has to be an explanation for it. Marks don’t just appear out of nowhere, right?” You pause to take a shaky breath, suddenly realizing that your words aren’t meant to comfort only him. “We can look into it. We can figure out what’s going on. This is the 21st Century, remember?”
“But what am I even supposed to tell her?” He demands, his tone exasperated and his brows furrowed together. “‘I know you’ve been looking for me for your whole life, but I can’t see you as anything more than a friend, sucks for you’? What do I do, spend the rest of my life drowning in guilt and self-pity because I couldn’t love her the way she wanted me to? Because I could only pretend?”
You have no answers for him. Perhaps he hasn’t felt anything for her because he hasn’t let go of you. Perhaps it really was a mistake, a freak accident in the cosmos that put the wrong marks on the wrong people, designating a pair that was never meant to be. Your thoughts run wild, but you can’t put anything into words for him. Even if you could, you don’t think you would have the strength to say anything aloud.
Instead, you hold him in your arms, wiping away the tears of frustration that have formed at the corners of his eyes, running your fingers through his hair. You can only hope that his soulmate will do the same for him some day, perhaps in some future where the cruel forces watching over you cease their endless games. Genuinely, you hope.

The tone goes off a third time. You glance at the clock across the room: 11 AM. He has to be up by now, you think to yourself as your fingers continue drumming a repetitive rhythm onto the kitchen counter.
“Hello?”
Just before the automated voice can tell you to leave a voicemail, he picks up. Donghyuck’s voice is groggy, as if he’s just woken up—or maybe he’s just about to go to bed. With his disaster of a sleep schedule, you can never be sure.
“Hi, it’s me.”
“Oh hey, you, I know you.” You hear him chuckle on the other end of the line. “How are you, Y/N? I haven’t heard from you in ages.”
“I’m alright, the usual, I guess. How about you? How’s Jeno?”
“Jeno adopted another cat because he’s fucking insane, so now we have three little furballs running around the house. But yeah, it’s going great! So great,” he drawls with a familiar bite of sarcasm. You smile to yourself. “If he brings home another one because ‘Oh Hyuck, look it’s so cute, can we keep it?’ I will literally choke him in his sleep. Anyways, what’s going on? You never call me.”
“You never pick up,” you huff, earning a small laugh from him. “Okay, I wanted to ask you something. What do you know about soulmate marks?”
Thoughtful silence. “Not much. I mean, I’ve got my theories, but nothing has really been proven. Why, did you get one?”
“No, not me. Jaemin.”
“Oh, Y/N… then that means…”
“It’s alright, don’t concern yourself with me, Donghyuck. I’m more worried about him, honestly.”
“Hm?”
“He found his soulmate recently, but it’s not exactly… it’s not going as expected, let's just say that. He said he feels almost nothing when he’s with her, and to make things worse, apparently now it’s mutual. God, Donghyuck, they’re so awkward with each other, it physically hurts me.”
Donghyuck is silent again, and you hear the faint clicking of his keyboard. You can almost see his contemplative gaze and the soft blue glow of his computer screen lighting his face. “Did they know each other at all before the marks appeared?”
“Yeah, they were coworkers.”
He hums. “Okay… that could be why. Marks have a tendency to appear if soulmates have been around each other for extended periods of time without realizing it. It’s like nature’s way of telling them that the person they’re looking for is right in front of them. As for why they haven’t felt anything for each other? I dunno… reincarnation can really fuck with people. Any previous sentiments for your soulmate stick with you as you pass on, even if you’re both reborn completely different people.”
I must have really fucked up in a past life to deserve this. Jaemin’s words echo in your head.
“Obviously, there’s still opportunity to fix things,” Donghyuck adds quickly before you can get too lost in your thoughts. “It just takes time. Honestly, I wouldn’t be too concerned”
“I know, I know,” you groan. “I’m just upset that after everything he’s gone through, this is the shit he has to deal with.”
“Yeah. I can’t even imagine.” He pauses. “You know, a lot of people would just run off if they were in the same situation. He’s lucky to have you.”
You give a breathless laugh and shrug. “I feel like it’s the least I can do.”
“You never give yourself enough credit,” Donghyuck says, a hint of melancholy to his voice. There’s a sudden noise in the distance that cuts him off, and he curses beneath his breath. “Shit, the new cat’s not trained yet and I think she’s doing something stupid in the kitchen. Jeno will kill me if anything happens to her.”
You suppress a giggle. “Go ahead. We can catch up some other time.”
“Of course. See you, Y/N.”
The line clicks.

If Donghyuck taught you to be hopeful and Mark taught you to be strong, Jungwoo taught you to be brave.
Kim Jungwoo was your first love, and in many ways, you consider him to be irreplaceable. Perhaps it had simply been the result of young naivety back then, but you thought he was unlike any other person you’d ever met. In hindsight, he was different. A bright light dancing his way into your life when you were only a child in the 30s, a free-spirited boy who went where he pleased despite living under such an oppressive regime.
The Kims lived only a few doors down. You frequently saw the boys in their front yard kicking a beat-up soccer ball back and forth between them. Jungwoo was the middle child, and he sat right in front of you in class, his back always perfectly straight against his wooden chair so as to avoid the teachers’ chastisement. He was a quiet boy, and he never said a word unless it was to answer a question. But even then, his voice was small—not exactly shy or scared, just quiet. He quickly learned to raise his voice when the teacher hit him on the back of the hand with a ruler and demanded he speak up, when the wood scraped apart the skin of his knuckles.
At the time, when Japanese was all too foreign on your tongue and you struggled to understand anything taught in class, you thought he was a genius. He always had the right answers when he was called upon and there wasn’t a trace of an accent in either of his languages. Not that you heard him speak Korean much; you didn’t dare speak it unless you were hidden in your own homes, where your parents could discuss the uprisings without having to worry about the police roaming freely outside. Though, they still spoke in hushed voices as if anyone could hear them, as if terrified for what could happen if someone did hear.
The first time you spoke to Jungwoo properly was in middle school. After a humiliating incident at school that left you in tears, he ran to catch up with you on the way home and spoke to you in timid Korean, offering to help. You were still teary-eyed and beyond upset, but you let him guide you through your homework. He rambled to you about the Japanese grammar you couldn’t understand and explained the mistakes you’d made for your teacher to lash out at you the way she had. It didn’t stop you from making the same mistakes the next day, but at least he was patient, unlike the adults at school.
“You’re not stupid,” he told you one afternoon on the way home. Again, you were in tears.
“But the teachers think I am,” you grunted. “And I feel stupid. I can’t understand a word they say. I never have the right answers. Everything I say is wrong. If that’s not stupidity, I don’t know what it is.”
“Y/N, all we do at school is memorize meaningless facts that don’t really matter,” he replied with a shrug. “Just because you can’t shove all that information into your head doesn’t mean that you’re stupid. Look at Doyoung. He was failing school but he’s still one of the smartest people I know. He just… learns differently.”
“So? That doesn’t make me smart either. They still think—”
Jungwoo scoffed. “Who cares what they think? I think you’re wonderful, and they’re the real freaks. Miss Ito, especially.” He wrinkled his nose. “She smells funny.”
“Hey, be nice, Jungwoo,” you chided, but you were laughing. He was effortlessly funny and it was such a pleasant contrast to the way he acted at school. He was always so disciplined and perfect when the adults were watching, but he seemed to let loose around you. It made you feel… special, in a way. Validated, accepted. Something you never felt at school.
You walked home with him almost everyday from then on. You became inseparable, even when your school shut down and sent all the students to gender-segregated schools, even when your parents worried that you were spending too much of your time with him instead of studying. Even when war arrived.
The Second World War plunged your lives into darkness; Jungwoo quickly became the only light to guide you. He was there for you while your parents were away, while they laboured in the factories making helmets and guns and bullets so that they could at least put food on the table. He was there when the light at the end of the tunnel went dim, though he was miles away from home.
Jungwoo had never struck you as a fighter or rebel, even if he had the physique of a soldier. He had the drive and the courage and the steel to fight, but you only saw gentleness in his monthly letters to you. The last letter you received from him still sits in a drawer somewhere, the last words he wrote sealed in a plastic envelope so that they won’t fade away.
You took the test a few months after the war ended, only because he had pleaded with you to do so. Even if I don’t make it home, he wrote to you in the same curving script he’d used to teach you years ago. Promise me.
When the receptionist gave you a piece of paper with an X marked next to your name—there were no colour indicators back then, only X’s and hollow circles—a part of you felt relief that you couldn’t quite explain. Another part of you was disgusted, convinced that you were being selfish and apathetic. You thought that maybe you had no regard for him; that you only cared for yourself and a stranger you were still searching for. He’d risked his life to join the rebel army, fought on the frontlines with the Allies, and you repaid him with nothing.
It would take you years to come to the conclusion that your reaction was only natural. It would take you years to heal and start seeing other people. In due time, you would stop frequenting the church in your hometown and your fingers would cease to brush against the memorial stone in the yard, upon which his name was carved. Just one name among many.

Jaemin’s hands are all over you: in your hair, around your throat, pushing you against the wall as he kisses you. His fingers tangle into your hair and he pulls on the strands, forcing your head back a bit so he can continue trailing his lips over your neck and collarbones.
“We can’t be doing this,” you tell him when you manage to pull away. His arms come around your waist anyways and he buries his head in the crook of your neck. You can smell the alcohol on his breath, and you glance behind him to see empty soju bottles on the kitchen counter.
“I’m not with Jieun,” he snarls. “Besides, like I said. I think we’re fucked. We aren’t meant to be.”
“Don’t say that,” you hiss, taken aback by his sudden coldness. “This isn’t fair to her.”
“It’s mutual, remember? I bet she’s out there doing the exact same thing with some other guy. She doesn’t need me.”
“Jaem—”
“We’re fucked. She told me she doesn’t need me, and I told her the same.”
You’re horrified. “You did what?”
“Hilarious, isn’t it? We had our first fight, and we aren’t even together yet.” He scoffs, pushing a hand through his hair in irritation. “Some type of soulmate.”
You’ve never heard him talk like this. He’s out of his mind. He’s lost it. “Fuck, Jaem, how much did you drink?”
“Not enough to feel better, clearly,” he snaps.
“Alcohol and whatever this is between the two of us isn’t going to make you feel any better. This isn’t going to fix your problems.”
“Then what do you want me to do?!” His words are sharp, his expression hard when he glares at you. “You tell me to move on and to give her a chance and to stop doing whatever—” he motions frantically. You’ve never seen him so wild, so out of control, and you’ve almost never seen him lash out at anyone like this. “—whatever the fuck this is, but do you even know how it feels? Do you even care?”
A sharp intake of breath, and then the world is crashing down around you.
The feelings you fought to suppress re-emerge, rising up to crush you and force you into relapse. Doubt. Regret. Guilt. The little voice in the back of your head is a raging monster now, and it shouts at you, screaming at you in a blind rage. Telling you that you’re heartless and self-absorbed and indifferent, everything you believed you were when Jungwoo died. Reinstating what you know isn’t true. You know he doesn’t mean it. You know that it’s just alcohol fueling the words spewing from his lips and nothing more, but they still bring back unpleasant memories, a sense of dread you can’t shake.
He realizes, albeit a bit too late. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”
If you knew how much it hurts me to watch you do this to yourself. If you knew how much it hurts me knowing that there’s only so much I can do for you. “Don’t. I get it.”
For a few seconds, the room is silent, save the ticking of the clock behind you. It reminds you briefly of a memory that you can’t quite grasp, like a flash of deja vu before you spiral back down to the present reality where you stand in cold, frigid silence. The broken smoke detector chirps.
“I should go,” you say at last. You go to grab your keys from where you left them on the counter but he quickly stops you, his hand coming around yours. You look up at him in irritation, pulling away sharply.
“It’s late,” he says shakily, almost pleading. “You shouldn’t walk home at this hour. Not alone.”
“I’ll call a cab,” you shrug before slipping into your sweater and pulling on your shoes. You bid him goodnight and leave him dumbfounded in the living room.
You return home to a sleepless light and endless thoughts in a cold bedroom. A broken record replays his words in your head again and again, until you see Jungwoo’s face floating above you in the darkness. His features are faint, like wisps of smoke that loosely form sad eyes and lips pulled downwards in a frown. And then he’s the one asking, “Do you even care?”
You have no answer for the annoying voice in your head. You stare at the lines of light drifting across the expanse of the ceiling, wide awake as the sky brightens outside.

“How long will you be gone?”
It was the 3rd of August 1995. You knew because the next day would mark 50 years since Jungwoo’s death. The next day, you would be going back to your hometown and laying flowers on the altar in the Kim family home, revisiting the memorial you’d left behind when you moved to Seoul.
You shrugged as Mark passed you his lighter. The old zippo produced a small spark between your fingers, and then the sting of smoke was filling your mouth and nose. You didn’t smoke regularly—you’d stopped years ago—but you sure as hell felt like you needed one tonight.
“I dunno,” you said, taking a long drag from the cigarette. “A couple more days after the ceremony? If I stay any longer, Doyoung might get upset.“
“Upset?”
“He doesn’t like seeing me. Said I bring back bad memories. I think I remind him of Jungwoo too much.”
Mark grimaced. “Well it’s scary, seeing a childhood friend who hasn’t aged in fifty something years… Must he like seeing a ghost.” He paused, tucking a stray piece of your hair behind your ear so that he could see your face. “My nephews feel the same way about me.”
“You remind them of something?” You asked.
“Their father, I guess,” he explained. “My brother… wasn’t the most understanding of them when they were younger. Whenever they see me, all they can think of is their childhood and his abusiveness.”
“Doesn’t it bother you?”
He took a moment of contemplative silence “No, not really. I mean, maybe it did at first. But it’s not like I go out of my way to avoid them just because of the memories they associate with me. That would be unfair for me.”
“It would be,” you agreed.
“So then why avoid Doyoung? What he thinks of you is beyond your control. If you remind him of painful memories, that isn’t exactly your fault.”
You sighed. “I don’t know. I just feel like staying out of his way might help him heal. Maybe it’ll help him move on from everything he’s trying to forget.”
“Oh, Y/N.” Mark took your hand with a breathless laugh. His smile was both sad and endearing, as if he were in awe of you—what for, you weren’t too sure until he murmured, “You’re too kind sometimes.” He paused to exhale, smoke escaping his lips and bleeding into the atmosphere, dispersing into the starry sky. He stared into the sky for a few moments, silent.
“But it’s not always up to you to heal their wounds. At some point, they have to learn to heal themselves.”
Tumblr media
“What the hell happened to him?”
Jaemin looks like a mess. His hair is disheveled and swept messily all over the place. His skin is unhealthily pale, unusually warm to the touch beneath your fingertips. You can tell he’s had a little too much to drink; he sits on the couch in a daze, his eyes fixated on an invisible point in front of him as if searching for something that is no longer there. He yelps in pain when you wipe at the cut on his lip.
“We bumped into a couple guys at the bar. One of them took a swing at him,” Renjun explains as he passes you the bottle of disinfectant. You carefully apply a drop to a cotton swab. “And it didn’t help that he was also drunk. Thank god Lucas was there to break up the fight.”
“I wasn’t drunk,” Jaemin groans in protest. “Just tipsy.”
“Tipsy? You couldn’t even tell me Y/N’s number.”
“I don’t remember anyone’s number.”
“Well, you couldn’t tell me your own name either. Got any excuse for that one, smartass?”
You ignore their bickering and continue cleaning the cut on Jaemin’s cheek, holding him firmly by the shoulder so he doesn’t move. The cotton quickly turns light pink between your fingers. You briefly examine the red marks along his jaw where he’d been hit, frowning. Jaemin has never been one to get into fights and especially not while under the influence, but the bruises on his cheek and his knuckles suggest otherwise. Hell, he rarely even gets drunk, but it’s becoming more and more frequent, to the point where Renjun makes sure to watch over him whenever they go out together. He’s derailing, you think to yourself as you brush his hair into some sort of order.
“Okay, let’s get you to bed.” You put his arm around your shoulder and help him up to his feet, nearly staggering beneath his weight. Renjun rushes over to help you move him into the bedroom.
“You should probably go home. It’s getting late,” you tell him when Jaemin has been settled in bed. You glance at the clock hanging in the kitchen as you clean up the first aid kit on the table: almost 2 AM. “I’ll stay with him… make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.”
“I really tried to keep him away from the alcohol tonight. I swear I turned away for only a second to deal with Yangyang and he— Ugh, I’m so sorry,” Renjun apologizes again, shaking his head. “This whole soulmate ordeal is really getting to him. I’m worried, Y/N.”
“You know how he is. He always figures it out one way or another” you reassure him. “I’ll talk to him again though. Maybe he’ll actually… listen this time.”
“Well, call me if anything happens. I probably won’t be asleep anyways.”
“I will. Thanks, Jun,” you nod appreciatively.
By the time Renjun has gone home and you’ve finished cleaning up, Jaemin is already asleep. He stirs when you switch off the lamp and reaches out for you in the darkness, fingers intertwining with yours. “Stay,” he mumbles, pulling you a bit closer.
“I’m not going anywhere.” You say as you admire the way the moonlight filters in through the windows and draws pale lines across his cheeks. Despite the cuts marking his skin, he looks so much softer now, innocent, in a way. Again, you’re reminded of the Jaemin you met at the art gallery. He was none of this. None of this pent-up frustration released in empty beer bottles, none of these crimson bruises marking his otherwise smooth skin.
“You have to stop doing this to yourself,” you murmur. There’s no reply at first, and you wonder if he heard you at all.
“I’m sorry,” you finally hear his voice: small, feeble in the darkness. His words become more urgent as he keeps speaking, spilling from his lips uncontrollably. “I shouldn’t have said those things about you. I wasn’t thinking. You know I could never mean it.”
You hush him, wrapping him in the security of your arms. A single tear brushes against the back of your hand, then another. “It’s alright,” you assure him as you rub soothing circles against his back. “You were going through a lot. I understand, okay? It’s okay.”
He shakes his head frantically, his tears falling in steady streams now. You let out a low hiss when you see them stain pink with the blood from the wound on his cheek. “Still, that shouldn’t be an excuse. I’ve managed to fuck up everything since all of this started. I hurt Jieun, I hurt Renjun, I hurt you. I can’t even go to work and look at Jieun without feeling like such an idiot and getting mad at myself for being such a child. Without feeling like maybe I deserve this.”
Your heart drops, then shatters into a million pieces at the bottom of a dark abyss.
“Look at me,” you plead as you take his face in your hands. “Look at me, Jaem, please.” He finally lifts his head, his eyes meeting yours in the stillness. All you can see is brokenness, defeat and regret, a look you knew well. It’s an expression that once followed you around for years, appearing in every mirror and reflection you passed by. An innate, intimate part of you that you despised so much until you came to accept it. “Listen to me, Na Jaemin. You are one of the strongest, bravest and kindest people I’ve ever met, and nothing will ever change the way I see you. You don’t deserve any of this bullshit. You don’t deserve this.”
“If you knew what I told her, Y/N,” he lets out a shaky breath. “If you knew what we told each other when we found out neither of us had any feelings for each other… maybe you would think differently of me.”
“If that’s truly what you believe, fix what you broke,” you say firmly. “Apologize to her. Make things right between the two of you, unless you want to go through this all over again in another life. Things will only get worse if you don’t address them now.”
“And if I can’t?”
“If anyone can do it, it’s you, Jaem.” Trembling, you press your lips to his temple. “Whether or not you end up with her, whether or not you think you deserve this, I love you. And that will never fucking change.”
He leans forwards, his forehead touching yours, his nose brushing against yours and his lips just inches from meeting yours. But he never comes any closer, and you feel no urge to close the distance either. Perhaps it’s a sign that both of you are already starting to let go, to drift apart; this moment is nothing romantic or lustful, nothing more than comforting each other in your brokenness. Nothing more than trying to help each other numb the pain.
“I love you.” His voice trembles, but his words are steady, deep-rooted in sureness.
“Then promise me you’ll try, Jaem. You’ll try to set things right, for both our sake.”
“For you, love,” he murmurs, so quietly that you can barely hear him. His voice is lost to the faint rumbling of the air conditioning unit somewhere outside and the distant noises of traffic. “For you, I would do anything.”
You wonder if he’ll remember any of this in the morning. You wonder if he’ll take your words to heart, or if they’ll simply be enveloped in dreams fueled by drunkenness, reduced by sleep to nothing but a blur.
...it’s not always up to you to heal their wounds. At some point, they have to learn to heal themselves
You’ve done everything you can for him, you decide. Even if you continue to walk by his side, the rest is up to him.
Tumblr media
One Saturday morning, Jaemin shows up at your door dressed in black jeans and a button-down shirt, his hair swept up neatly. There’s a kind of brightness to him; it’s not necessarily hope or excitement, but certainly a change from what you’ve seen the last couple of weeks. He’s meeting Jieun for lunch, he tells you nervously. He wants to see you before he goes. You tell him you’re proud of him. That genuinely, you admire him.
The next time you see him, it’s at a floral shop. He’s in the middle of picking out flowers, and he flushes when he sees you. A single rose seemed too cliche, he tells you sheepishly, and asks your opinion. He thinks she’ll prefer something a bit more unique but equally tasteful, equally elegant. You recommend orchids or gerberas. They last longer than roses, but they convey the same message. When he’s gone, you buy a small vase of irises for your apartment; your living room needs a bit of colour.
Weeks later, you find a small package in the mail: a parting gift, you realize when you tear open the padded envelope. It’s nothing too special, nothing fancy or expensive—just a piece of blue glass wrapped in silver accents, attached to a delicate chain that you loop around your neck. When you hold the pendant up to the sun, its blue tint shatters into infinite colours, tossing specks of luminous yellow and orange all over your bedroom. More than just a singular colour, it reflects the other hues around you. And for just a brief moment, you think you see your own reflection.

You watched Jaemin move on just as you’d watched Mark and Donghyuck: from afar, with reserve but at the same time, excitement. Close enough for him to know that you were still there for him, but allowing some sort of distance that grew as the days melded into weeks and then months.
For the most part, he seemed to be alright. His texts were always cheerful, covered in happy emoticons—he used them when he was too giddy with excitement to type actual words. “We figured things out,” was all he said one night, and it was all you needed to hear to know that they’d be okay.
You started to notice the fondness he’d developed for her; it was subtle at first, just a hint of affection in his voice when he told you about her over the phone. Though slowly, it developed into something more. It was just as Donghyuck said: time had forged a relationship out of nothing, out of empty words and empty emotions, growing a garden from a barren piece of wasteland.
The first time you spoke to Kim Jieun, it was over the phone during one of your calls with Jaemin. She’d chimed in on your conversation at some point to say hi, and the way she spoke almost reminded you of Donghyuck: bright, cheery, a little sarcastic in a playful manner. You quickly learned that she was easy-going though brutally honest at times, well-mannered yet well-humoured. Most importantly, she wasn’t judgemental, and she didn’t treat you any differently from Jaemin’s other friends just because you’d been with him previously.
Of course, there was still a sense of yearning, a bittersweetness whenever you saw the two of them together. Your fingers always danced fleetingly along the screen of your phone before pressing like on the photos he posted to his social media. You saw him less and less, only occasionally running into him at the bakery you used to frequent together or at a friend gathering. For the most part, you let the past stay in the past. He seemed happy. And honestly, you were happy for him.
“I told you he’d be fine,” Donghyuck murmured to you at one of Jeno’s rampant parties, once most of the guests had trickled out for the night. The two of you sat on the balcony, watching everyone stumble around in their drunken stupor: Jeno was passed out on the couch with two cats sitting perched on his chest. Renjun was trying to braid flowers into Jaemin’s hair, which he’d recently bleached yet another shade lighter to match Jieun’s platinum locks. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched Chenle and Jisung exchange a few bills and bicker over a bet—Chenle was still in denial that Jisung had won, apparently.
“I didn’t doubt you for a second, Hyuck.”
“But you were worried,” he grinned smugly.
“Why wouldn’t I be worried?” You sighed and knocked back the rest of your wine before motioning for him to pass you the bottle. You swiftly poured yourself another glass. “If I couldn’t have my happy ending, at least I wanted him to have his. As… cliche as that sounds.”
Donghyuck raised a brow at you. “What’s to say that you won’t get yours too? They can’t keep you waiting forever. The longest it ever took for someone to find their soulmate was 241 years.”
“Goddamn, are you trying to make me feel better or worse?”
“Better, of course! Okay, what I’m trying to say is that it’s rare for anyone to wait longer than two centuries. If everyone lived for up to three hundred years, we’d have a lot of dictators and other crazies running the world. The universe would spontaneously combust.”
“I know I’m barely even halfway there, but come back to me when I set a new world record,” you rolled your eyes, to which he responded with a small chuckle.
“So what now?” He glanced at Jaemin, who sat across the room with his eyes half-closed, an empty red solo cup in his hands. Jieun had her head on his shoulder, rambling drunkenly about something to Renjun. If you hadn’t known any better, you would have thought she’d been a part of the group all along; she fit in so seamlessly, and it warmed your heart to see her getting along with everyone.
“I don’t know,” you shrugged. “Nothing for now, I guess. Just waiting.”
“Whoever it is, I’m sure they’ll be worth it,” he hummed in reply.
“You think so?”
“People say that the longer you wait, the better. It’s all in your head, of course, but they have a point.”
You sighed, lifting your head to gaze at the stars hanging overhead. “I suppose they do. Maybe someday I get to find out.”
He patted you on the shoulder reassuringly. “You’ll figure it out. You always have.”
Donghyuck left a little later to get a drunk Jeno to bed, and then you had only the quietness of night to keep you company. Your mind drifted and you contemplated his words, repeating them silently to the wind. The night sky replied with nothing but a gentle breeze against your skin.
You could be patient, you thought as you watched the others inside. You fished the pendant out from beneath your shirt and stared at the reflection in the glass. It was as if you were grasping a piece of the night sky between your fingers: the stars and a crescent moon captured in a single, translucent oval. In the dark, the pendant appeared deep indigo, not too different in hue from the four coloured markings you’d acquired over the years.
But the sun would rise in due time, you thought to yourself mirthfully. Beneath the brightness of morning, you’d hold a different colour in your hands. You tucked the necklace back into the fabric of your shirt. You could wait.

PAIRING: Bakugou Katsuki x Fem!Reader RATINGS: M/E+ WARNINGS: smut WORD COUNT: 1.9k+
request from THIS prompt list - prompt fill sentences will look like this.
“Hey, you awake?”
You groan, stuffing your head beneath your pillow. It isn’t enough that he has the audacity to wake up before the sun rises, but for him to bother you until your eyes are peeled open? You smack your lips together, a disgruntled sound raking against your throat as you close your eyes again.
His palm is warm as it travels down the length of your abdomen, as if his scarred hands are prodding at every one of your ribs to count them in the early morning light, “I know you’re awake, c’mere.”
“Go back to bed,” you murmur into the sheets, but it holds no intent because you’re doing as he says, swiveling your body to tuck into his chest. Bakugou’s arms slink underneath your sleep shirt, a shirt he recognizes as his own, fingerprints mapping out the dips and curves of your back and shoulders. You hear him groan into the crown of your hair and you smirk, your eyes lazily drawing their way up to look into his crimson orbs, “Can’t sleep?”
On cue, Bakugou’s hips rut forward, and you feel his very prevalent boner press into your thigh. Your thigh muscles tighten at the sensation, the half-asleep haze still fogging up your brain so you can only think in partial thoughts.
His nose nuzzles your forehead, nudging against the creases until your skin softens, smoothing beneath his kisses. He grunts when you roll your hips forward, a teasing cant of your waistline making his blunt fingernails bite into your skin. A low growl rumbles in his chest, making its way up his throat until every cell in his body is vibrating with anticipation.
“Do you have any idea what you do to me?” he murmurs into your tresses, voice dropped an octave when you hitch your thigh up over the top of his to get closer. Bakugou’s voice is still rough with sleep, all jagged edges and coarse tones as his mouth begins to wander, mumbling little aborted sentences into your skin, “Such a fuckin’ filthy tease in your sleep, babe. You feel that?”
He’s of course referring to the throbbing cock he’s currently sporting, pressed flush between your thighs and his. Bakugou licks the pad of his tongue over the length of your neck, tracing your jugular with his teeth. A fresh wave of arousal slickens the skin of your thighs, pre-come leaking from his tip to mix with your wetness.
“S’too early,” your murmuring against his collarbones, lazy, sloppy kisses pressed into his hot flesh.
Bakugou has always been a human heater – you suppose it’s just a side effect of his quirk. His body naturally runs hotter so he can kickstart his explosion quirk whenever he needs to. The stinging sensation of his palms as he tries to tame his power is not lost on you as his hands roam your body, pulling and dragging at you to keep you close and feel your frame.
He traipses a hand between your bodies, fingertips running down your abdomen until he reaches the spasming outer walls of your cunt, “Hah,” he is brash in his laughter, “you’re fuckin’ soaked, Princess. You really gonna tell me it’s too early?”
“Shuddup and fuck me,” you murmur into his neck, lavishing the skin with your teeth and tongue. Bakugou moans at the action, his eyelids slipping closed and his eyes rolling back in his head. You reach a hand up his neck to palm at his undercut until you get to a thatch of hair that you can hold onto, grasping at it desperately so you can bring him back down to kiss your mouth.
Bakugou is quick to roll himself over so he’s loitering above you, a shadow cast down on your body thanks to the beginning rays of the sunrise filtering in through your partially open blinds. He nudges his nose against the bridge of your face, tracing the outlines of your cheek bones while your hands busy themselves with his torso. You cannot get enough of his body, toned and yet somehow supple at the same time. Your fingers knead into the plush flesh of his ass, and he tilts his head so he can kiss you.
The head of his cock butterflies your pussy so he can collect the silvery strands of slick that have gathered between your lips. You moan into the cavity of his mouth, his teeth biting down on your tongue when he gets the chance, “Fuck, baby,” his voice is low as he sucks on the muscle, rutting his hips forward out of pure primal need.
“I love you,” you murmur into the void, playing with he blonde strands of hair that you can reach. Your other hand is rested between the planes of his shoulders, palming at the muscles that ripple as he moves.
Bakugou kisses your bottom lip, leaning back to admire your features, “I love you too.”
He accentuates the sentence by slowly dredging his cock forward, coating himself in your arousal at an agonizing pace that leaves you wanting more but somehow unable to beg for it. You adore him in these moments – when he is wanton enough to devour you whole, but uses his ever astounding self-restraint to savor your every sound. Bakugou is handsy when he’s just woken up, fingerprints searching for something to memorize, as if his very anatomy was pieced together to mesh with yours. He knows you like he knows himself, inside and out, and it only serves to better moments like this.
“Fuck, you’re so tight,” he’s almost whining, his voice thick as he does so. You find yourself sifting your fingers through his hair before your palm settles on his cheek, guiding his eyesight to your face so he can look down at you from where he’s hovering.
You swear you hear a gentle whimper when he makes eye contact with you, but you don’t press him about it, instead enjoying the view you have from beneath him. His hair shines like gold in the warm sunlight, his eyes are glittering rubies as his gaze bores into you, as if you might have all the secrets to the questions of the universe. You tilt your chin and kiss him on the mouth, tenderly and slow, and he matches your pace with the stuttering of his hips.
A moan passes between you, the origin of it unclear given that you now can’t tell where you end and he begins. You are a mess of tangled limbs and sounds, your arms and legs wound around his body as he fucks into you slowly. The bed creaks underneath your weight, but it only adds to the cacophony of sounds all intermingling together to form the melody of your morning.
“Damn, Princess,” Bakugou drops his mouth to your neck, softly sucking at a few different patches of skin. Hard enough to elicit a reaction in the way of your cunt clenching around his cock, but not hard enough that he might leave a mark that you’ll have to cover.
Bakugou works you to the precipice of pleasure, your climax fast approaching as the ministrations of his hips do not falter. You can feel his cock twitching from withing your walls and you clamp down to hold him steady, winding your hands in his hair as you hold him close, “N-No, don’t cum yet.”
He makes a strangled sound in the back of his throat, his hips bucking up into you in defiance, but it is only second nature for him. Bakugou kisses your jawline before murmuring in your ear, “I don’t know how you expect me to last much longer with this fucking perfect pussy of yours, all sloppy and wet around my cock.”
You shiver at his lewd words, your spine bolstering with confidence as he litters praise down on you like confetti. You tilt your head so your cheek is pressed into his, beckoning him forward with the gentle tug of your hand in his hair, “I-I wanna look at you when you cum.”
Bakugou is immediately upright, pulling his hips away from you so only the tip of him is submerged within your core, hot and throbbing with the imminence of his release. You feel him tensing up his body to try and force himself to look down at you, every nerve beneath his skin practically shattering at the sight of you so blissed-out and at his mercy.
His thumb brushes over the apple of your cheek and you feel like there has never been a more ethereal moment than this one. The soft smell of sweets cooking over a campfire fills your nostrils, a familiar taste in the air that you’ve come to know after many years of being with Bakugou Katsuki. Your chest brushes his as you inhale deeply, committing the moment to memory, commiserating it with the slight flare of your nostrils.
The sight of him so close to the crest of his release makes your thighs tense, but you want to savor this moment. These few seconds between when everything is calm and then the coil finally snaps, washing white-hot pleasure through your entire being. You press your palms to his cheeks, his still hazy eyes trying desperately to find a part of you to focus on.
A quiet curse falls from his lips before he sheathes his cock within you again, bottoming out on the first stroke. You can tell by the strain of his neck that he wants to lower his head, but he fights every instinct in his body and keeps his eyes focused on you, those vermillion irises ever present as you both begin to climb toward your release.
“Please, Katsuki,” you lick your lips and beg for him, clenching your thighs until they’re quivering, “cum in me, I want to feel you cum in me.”
Bakugou’s eyes are steely as he looks down at you, “Here you go, baby,” he murmurs into the void of your bedroom, the words airy and light as they drift from his lips to your ears.
Your heels dig into the plush of his backside, anchoring him to you as you feel the familiar heat of his spend coating your core. You moan in tandem with him, milking him with your glutinous walls trapping his cock inside. His tip is pressed hotly against your cervix, and you swear you can feel him in your spine, but that does nothing but stir your body into passion, brought even closer to the end when his thumb finds your clit.
“C’mon, Princess,” he mutters as he leans down to kiss you quickly on the mouth, “I want you to come for me, yeah? Come on my cock.”
That is all the encouragement your body needs, your arousal meeting his as you cry out, throwing your head forward to press against his collarbone. You sob at the feel of your body tensing up from head to toe, your orgasm shattering the world around you until all you can fathom is Katsuki.
Bakugou hums once you’ve fallen slack, nudging his nose along your cheek, “Where’s my girl?”
Your head falls back to the pillow and your hands find their familiar place in his ashen blonde locks, “Right here.”
As if there were anywhere else you’d rather be.

I smiled my thanks to the Amazon delivery girl as she handed me a package.
“Thanks!” I called out as I shut the door and carried the package inside. “Sammi, delivery!” I returned to getting ready for my shift at the Copper Penny as my baby sister left her room and wandered out to open her package.
 “MC, did you look at the label?” she yelled. “It’s for you!”
 I exited the bathroom once more, my comb in hand as I worked the teeth through my tangled curls. I joined her in the kitchen, where she had the package and a pair of scissors at the ready.
 “Can you open it for me, please?” I asked her with a smile. “I just cannot get this one knot out!” I laughed as Sammi brutally stabbed the box, slicing it open. She took out a slip of paper and read it to herself first.
 “Sweetheart, I had enlisted the help of my sisters in hunting for a pump- they thought you were carrying my child and were up at arms, planning a shotgun wedding. Yes, they’re THAT kind of family.”
 I frowned as Sammi pulled out some bubble wrapping before removing another box. What on earth had Peter ordered me?
 “Another milk pump!” Sammi’s eyes brightened as she placed the pump on the kitchen island. “Oh look, it’s a high tech one, too!”
 I frowned as I looked at it before taking out my phone and texting Peter.
 Did you order a milk pump for me from Amazon?
 My phone buzzed barely a second after I sent the message.
 I didn’t know what you needed, so I may’ve gone a little crazy
 I looked inside the box and pulled out milk bags and spare pieces to the pump. I lay everything out on the counter as I was shaking my head.
 “He really loves you,” whistled Sammi as she began to unknot my curls for me. “You’re lucky, sister. I wish I had someone who loved me the same way Peter does to you.”
 “Sammi, your prince charming is out there somewhere,” I sighed, opening the box and pulled out the instructions. I was eager to try out my new pump before my shift in three hours. “He’s just probably stuck up in a tree somewhere because he refused to pull over and ask for directions.”
 I scanned through the instructions and quickly fitted the machine together before moving over to the living room couch. I sank down and situated myself quickly before switching the pump on.
 The only clue that it was working was a gentle hum and the bag slowly filling with breast milk. I sighed in blissful relief as the uncomfortable swelling began to die down. I sighed happily and tossed my head back.
 “This feels wonderful,” I sighed happily.
 “But not as wonderful as Peter’s mouth, am I right?” Sammi asked me, placing the comb next to me and running her fingers through my curls, fluffing them up.
 “SAMMI!” I screamed, pinned in place by the machine, milking me into comfort. “I swear, what is it with you and sex?”
 “He is HUGE,” Sammi pulled up her phone and began to bring up Google. “Like a solid foot!”
 “Oh, for Fucks sake!” I groaned. “Sammi, I swear, this perverse obsession with his penis is starting to worry me.”
 “What?” she asked as my phone buzzed again. “It’s true!”
 “Keep your eyes on your giant ass dildo and off of my Peter,” I grumbled as I answered the phone. “MC here.”
 “Hi there, sweetheart.”
 I bit back a smile at Peter’s voice.
 “Hi yourself,” I greeted him with a sigh of content. “Thanks again, so much. It’s really quiet- now the entirety of faire won’t be bitching at me to do my pumping at Fairy Creek Meadow.” I held up the phone to the pump, letting him hear how quiet it was.
 “I did good.” I could hear the smile on his face.
 “Yeah, you did good,” I smiled. “Thanks.”
 “Are you doing anything tonight?” he asked me. I could practically picture him- tight green shirt hugging his muscular chest, black hair tossed back into a messy bun, large manly frame making whatever room he was in seem crowded.
 “I was asked to work tonight, last minute thing,” I said. “I don’t mind- even though I asked for the next several Mondays off to get back into the modern world.”
 “Where do you work?” he asked.
 “The Copper Penny,” I said. “It’s a neat place.”
 “The Copper Penny?” he asked. “Where’s that?”
 “It’s a biker bar,” I explained. “The regulars are really sweet. It’s a fifteen minute walk from my apartment-”
 “No, that’s inexcusable,” he growled. “I’ll be your ride for tonight.”
 I opened my mouth to protest only to have the milk pump buzz before turning off, the bag full and ready to switch out.
 “Peter,” I sighed. “Peter, I’m a big girl and I’ve been taking care of not only myself by my little sisters for many years, I appreciate the fact that you’re my soulmate and that you want to take care of me, but please, let me take care of myself.”
 “Sweetheart, please, humor me,” he begged me. “Let me scope out the Copper Penny and see that it’s safe for you. I don’t doubt you, but please. I need to see.”
 I sighed as I started up the machine again, having swapped the full bag for an empty one. Sammi sealed the milk filled bag and stuck it in the fridge for me.
 “Okay, I have work from six to two tonight,” I grumbled.
 “You need your sleep,” was he said. I could picture him with a raised eyebrow as he leaned his side against the wall.
 “So do you,” I shot back. “You must be exhausted, being a professional rock star and shit.”
 “I’ll pick you up in an hour, we can go and grab a quick bite to eat before your shift,” he grunted.
 “I- well, okay,” I said.

A better world for us
I feel like a lot of people forget that the twins are teens so could you do a pietro x reader where during the events of AoU reader discovers she’s pregnant (teen pregnancy) and Pietro is the dad. Like I can imagine him being all worried about reader and Clint catching him talking to her belly while they’re waiting for help in the sky. Let’s say he lives in this version instead of dying. Please?--Anonymous
Request: Anonymous
Author's Note: I'm so sorry this took as long as it did! I genuinely have no excuse, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless worked super hard on it! Might be a tad different than what was requested! Thank you! Be warned there are mentions of abuse in the beginning!
(Y/N) never expected to be dragged into the world of Superheroes who fight for the peace of the Earth. That all changed when she was forcefully taken out of her home by an elite organization known as Hydra. They had experimented on her until she had the power to shapeshift into any animal whether they were extinct or not.
Through Hydra, she met a set of twins from a very young age. They grew close to each other, but it seemed that even (Y/N) couldn’t help herself from falling for the cocky runner. Wanda always made fun of her for even thinking that her brother was good looking let alone good enough to be an actual partner in a relationship.
It wasn’t until one night, Hydra had taken a beating to the poor teenager after she refused to perform in front of top-level clientele. They had broken her nose and busted up some of her ribs as punishment for her insubordination. She had been sobbing, trying to fix herself up enough that it wouldn’t worry Wanda or Pietro, but the door to her room opened.
“(Y/N), are you here?” The thick, deep accent spoke softly as she jolted from her place on the floor.
The jerk made her pull too hard on the stitching to pop out at a few places. She cursed softly as she squinted, trying to use the light of the moon in order to accomplish her goal. She looked up in time to see him staring down at her in shock.
“It’s not as bad as you think.” She assured quietly before suddenly her trembling hands slowly enveloped in his.
“Let me take care of it.” He whispered as she blinked back the tears of anger, hurt, and frustration. She nods gently before handing him the needle that she had been using as he looks around for the first aid. “No pain medicine?” He asked as she shook her head.
Pietro cursed softly before looking at her, running a hand over her sweat-soaked skin which made her offer a tight smile in return. His eyes were burning with anger, but the moment he looked down to her wounds that shifted to hurt. He slowly got to work as she grunted and dug her teeth into her lower lips scraping against the cut there in order to stop the sounds from escaping.
“I’m almost done.” He assured quietly, causing her to nod quickly. “I’m sorry.” He spoke finally after he cleaned up the dried blood from her body with a wet cloth.
“For… For what?” She slurred quietly.
“For not being there… For… For not helping sooner.” He whispered, looking conflicted as she swallowed softly.
It took everything in her not to reach forward and wipe the crease in his brow when she finally realized something. She wasn’t just crushing on him anymore… She was full-blown in love with the man before her as she opened her mouth. Yet, no words would escape her throat as it tightened from fear, or maybe it was because of how much pain she was in.
Pietro looked up to her, noticing the look in her eyes as his own irises dilated before he set down the bloody cloth. His hands slowly took her face into the palms, watching as she shivered from the warmth that flooded into her skin at the touch.
Everything felt tense for a moment, neither spoke in fear of breaking the bubble that had covered the two. It was Pietro who made the first move as he gently leaned forward, giving her time to back away if she wanted to. However, she didn’t move, she didn’t move because she didn’t want to and soon she felt his lips slowly brush over hers as she parted her mouth in shock.
Suddenly, they were kissing. It wasn’t the best kiss, mostly because neither one had any experience to help them guide the kiss. Nonetheless, the kiss in their minds was more than perfect enough.
The cut in her lip stung, but she couldn’t pull herself away from him before breathing became a necessity for them. They slowly pressed their foreheads together as warm breaths fanned across the other’s face while they just stared at each other.
“Pietro.” (Y/N) whispered pulling him into another kiss and soon clothing hit the floor as their night was lost in passion.
A few months had passed and not a lot had happened, it is true that the two began to date, but they were teenagers after all. They fumbled around in the shadows with heavy pettings that normally got them scolded by Wanda who was going to kill both of them if she saw her brother’s ass one more time.
Then the Ultron happened.
Wanda blindly trusted Ultron as did Pietro, but (Y/N) on the other hand, felt like something had been wrong. She didn’t understand what it was about him that made it difficult to like him, until Wanda unlocked his mind and saw what his true motive was.
Now, they were playing on the side that they believed to be the enemy. Pietro didn’t like it. He was a little angry to be honest, (Y/N) noticed it and pulled him to the side.
“Hey, talk to me.” She whispered softly, glancing to the Avengers who were making a plan to stop Ultron with Vision on their side.
“I don’t like this. I hate that Wanda just trusts this Vision so easily. First Strucker, then Ultron, are they next? Will we ever get to live a normal life?” He demanded as her eyes softened.
“We will, but we need to help stop Ultron first. He’s a bigger threat to this world then the Avengers are. Right now, they are our only ticket to having any sort of freedom. Listen, how about when this is all over, we go somewhere. Just you, me, and Wanda. Like we always planned to do. No more fighting, no more of this destruction.” She promised, cupping his face.
Pietro’s eyes fluttered as he leaned his head into her touch. His hand slowly slid up and took it into his own before placing a kiss onto her palm. He knew that what she was saying was the truth, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. His eyes fluttered open as their piercing gaze locked onto hers.
“Alright, let us get this over with. Then we are moving into the mountains or a state that is quiet.” He mumbles as a smile blooms across her mouth.
“That is my beloved.” She leans up and presses her lips against his own.
He immediately jerked her body flushed against his own before deepening the kiss. They slowly pull away, foreheads resting together. Pietro swallowed with a nod before pulling away as he looked towards the others who were still discussing plans to stop Ultron.
“We can do this, my love.” (Y/N) whispered to him as he nodded.
“Promise me, if things get bad… if they seem dire--I want you to get out of there. Do not worry about me. Just get out of there. You are more important to me.” He whispered, taking her hand as she shook her head.
“I’m sorry, I cannot promise you that. If things become dire, then we die together.” She spoke sternly as Pietro’s face twisted in slight anger before he huffs.
“Why can’t you just listen to me just this once?” He asked.
“Because, if I started doing that then we would both be screwed.” She smirks softly. “You and Wanda are my family, my only family. I cannot be without you.” She explains. “See it from my perspective. Would you do as I asked if I were to say the same thing?” She tilted her head.
“Alright, touché.” He mumbles.
“Okay, everyone, let’s rest. Tomorrow we are stopping Ultron.” Tony explains, clapping his hands together to get everyone’s attention.
Wanda stuck to Vision’s side like glue, so Pietro pulled (Y/N) off with him towards one of the spare bedrooms that Tony offered out to them. He laid her out onto the bed as (Y/N) smiled up to him, in the lighting of the moon, she looked absolutely gorgeous. He fell asleep to the soft sounds of her breathing against his neck.
A loud explosion knocked Pietro out of his daydreaming stupor.
He glanced up to see (Y/N) holding a huge piece of debris from him and Hawkeye. Her body had hardened like steel as she forced the piece of cement out of the way. She panted harshly, looking more exhausted for wear considering how long they have been battling.
Pietro started towards her, just in time as one of Ultron’s clones blasted the area she had just been. He noticed how her skin slowly drained itself of any color, causing him to curse softly before rushing her over to safety.
“(Y/N), what’s going on? Are you hurt?” He asked, looking over her body for some kind of bleeding wound. “Is it because of your powers? You haven’t used them in a while.” He explains.
“No, I--” She jerked forward before vomiting up whatever they had eaten last night, causing Pietro to move more out of shock than anything.
“Did you get hit in the stomach?” He asked worriedly before looking up to see Wanda rushing over to them.
“What’s going on?” She frowns, glancing at (Y/N) who was gagging heavily.
“She’s hurt, but I don’t know what happened.” Pietro explains when Wanda leans down and places her hands onto (Y/N)’s forehead. She looked inside to see what happened before she felt another energy pulling at her powers, causing her to gasp. “What! What’s wrong?” Pietro asked as Wanda’s wide eyes locked onto (Y/N)’s stomach.
“You--She is… She is carrying a child. I can feel it.” She whispered softly as Pietro and (Y/N) both looked up to Wanda in disbelief.
“Wha--What?” (Y/N) stuttered out, feeling like she was going to vomit now for a different reason.
“You are pregnant. When I looked into your head, I felt something pulling at me. I could feel the heat bloom from your stomach. It is a baby.” She explains, placing a hand onto her stomach as (Y/N) looked to Pietro.
“What--What do we do?” (Y/N) asked.
“Well you are definitely not fighting anymore. Wanda, stay with her. I have to end this now.” Pietro stood up before (Y/N) surged her hand out and took his own.
“Pietro, wait! Don’t go! I can’t--You can’t die!” She exclaims, looking distraught.
“I have to go, and I will not die… It sounds like I have three people I need to protect.” He offers his signature smirk before he was gone.
“Pietro!!” (Y/N) screams before Wanda pulls her back from the havoc that was outside the crumbling door. She buried her face into Wanda’s jacket before sobbing as she placed a hand onto her stomach. This was too much to handle at once.
It was finally over, (Y/N) had been taken by Hawkeye so Wanda could help fight the others. She held her breath since she hadn’t heard from either of them as they were boarding onto the Quinjet.
“Where is Pietro and Wanda?” (Y/N) demanded, storming over to Vision who looked to her.
“They are behind you.” Vision assures, gesturing behind her as she turned just in time to see Pietro and Wanda stepping onto the jet.
Tears flooded down (Y/N)’s face as she rushed over, hugging Wanda before turning her attention towards her lover. She held him tightly as he smiled, holding her back before he moved them so the others could get on board as well.
“Pietro Maximoff, if you do something so stupid again, I swear to every god that exists, you won’t be able to outrun my wrath.” She growled softly.
“Noted.” He chuckles before kissing her passionately before sitting down onto the floor. He pulled her into his lap, rubbing up and down her back. “You know, we should talk about this,” He places his hand onto her stomach. “I think this is rather important, but later. Right now, I am just thankful that we are all alive.” He whispered.
“I’m scared.” She whispered softly as he looked up to her with a confused face for a moment. “What if I’m not a good mom. I mean… Pietro, we’re practically kids.” She whispered with a wobbling lower lip.
“That may be true, my darling. However, I think we will do just fine. And we have Wanda to help us out. Whatever happens. I’m with you all the way.” He smiles before it falters for a moment. “Do you--Do you want to keep the baby?” He asked, scared she would say no, but knowing that this was her body, her choice.
“Of course I do, I’m just… really scared.” She whispered before laughing in tears. “We’re going to have a baby.” She gasps.
“We are.” He whispered before she laid down and fell asleep from exhaustion. Pietro watched her for a moment before running his fingers through her hair as his eyes slowly fell onto her stomach. “Hello my little gem. This is your daddy speaking, and I just wanted to let you know that I love you so much already. Even if you are this tiny little thing that doesn’t have a heartbeat yet.” He whispered. “I hope I can be a good dad for you.” He whispered softly.
“You will be.” A rough voice assured as Pietro’s eyes snapped up to see Hawkeye grinning down at him. “Because you’ve got us to help out when you need it.” He assures before Pietro looks down to (Y/N) once again before he smiles.
“It seems our family just got a little bigger.” He chuckles to (Y/N)’s stomach before pulling (Y/N) into his arms and his eyes fluttered shut. He was just glad that they were no longer being held captive by anyone, they were free to live their lives for the first time in what seemed like forever.
