Maneuvering had become tougher over the past month or so. Her growing belly tended to get in the way, cause her to waddle, give her aches she hadn’t expected, but Louise generally grit her teeth and bore it because she’d never complain about being able to help nurture the little miracle within her.

But she disliked when Ben noticed how she struggled ( or at least the perception that he had noticed ). Far from her days of being made to feel weak, she hated when she caught herself still believing she was, and that was one of those moments, just briefly anyway. All those misconceptions burned away in the warmth of the fire when she took in the look on her husband’s face.

“ I suppose you may be right, ”  she answered with a crooked grin, softly padding her way to him, her night shirt and house coat swaying with her movements. Louise settled upon his lap, cuddling against him, breathing Ben in as she always did.  “ Oh fine, of course you’re right, ” she teased and nuzzled his neck.

        Stifling the last of her giggles, Louise uncovered her mouth to reveal a broad smile.  “ Because you haven’t taken a look at yourself! If you had, you would laugh too! Angie, I adore you, you know this, so as your friend, I must tell you that you... Look ridiculous. ”

It wasn't that Ben didn't find what Lou had to say interesting, he had simply gotten distracted by the movement of her lips, staring absentmindedly. That was until a shy hand impeded the view. Had he offended her? He hoped that wasn't the case. Taking her hand, he guided it away and leaned in for a sincere kiss, only parting just enough to whisper the words: "Has anyone told you that you have such a beautiful mouth?" ( >:D )

       She sputtered, flushing almost instantaneously. “ N-no, I don’t believe so. ”  Oh goodness, what a silly response to such a nice compliment. Don’t believe so… She knew for certain no one HAD; why not answer as such?!  Even after all of this time with him, Louise found herself completely THROWN by Ben with just a few words and a kiss. “What… What makes it so beautiful? ”

       “ You’ve been…? ”  Though her voice barely leaves her pouted lips, the surprise in it is as clear as day.  “ I haven’t looked forward to my own birthday since—– ”  A pregnant pause, as Lou considers just how careful she should be with her next words.  “ Since my mother was home. She was the one who made it seem like a special day. ”

Ben thumbed over the young woman's lower lip as he wet his own with a slow pass of his tongue. He could still taste her, but the ghost of her kiss left him unsatisfied and hungry for more. BUT, he would offer her something to quell her interest in the subject first. "I've never seen one more brilliantly shaped. How it pouts -- and those sweet front teeth. So innocent and yet so sensuous..."

       “ Mr. Solo… I do believe you’re going to set me positively ALIGHT. ”  There was absolutely no hiding the red burrowing deeper into her cheeks. Her hand lifted to his, more to calm hers than pull his from what it was doing.  “ I’ve always been under the assumption that my pout is strange and that these teeth are… Far too large… ”  Those teeth sunk into her full bottom lip ever so briefly.  “ But I’m very pleased that you find this to not be the case… ”

The heat of a blush instantly covered what felt like her entire body, radiating off her skin, she was quite sure, enough to boil a kettle. Ben had always been so good at completely throwing her off her guard like this, having her red and flustered with just a few words.

“ That’s… That’s not very PROPER, now is it? ”  As if he’d ever seemed bothered with propriety. Part of Louise genuinely liked that about him, but she couldn’t show that.  “ I… Don’t even know what to say to that. ”

       “ Angie, please! ”  Her voice squeaks as her cheeks flush crimson. Lou shakes her head and briefly covers her face, mortified by the question. She tries, in vain, to calm the blushing and respond in such a manner that doesn’t give the impression that she’s a silly girl with silly feelings for the boy she’s known almost her whole life.

       “ I’ve considered it, yes, but Shaun— Mr. Conlon— wouldn’t dream of returning the favor, I’m sure of it, so I simply keep it out of my mind. ”

The concerned expression Ben wore for his fiancée refashioned itself in an instant. There was nothing that he had come to know that caused her more anguish than the loss of her beloved books. Her father was a cruel man, but it was shocking that even he would stoop so low to keep Louise pinned beneath his thumb. Jaw flexing, he stepped forward and cupped a feverish cheek in an effort to soothe her despite being angry himself. "You'll have all of your books back, and some."

Wide, ashamed eyes watched as Ben moved closer, the girl nearly cowered, momentarily scared by what he might do. It was a natural reaction given the kind of reaction Louise was quite used to from her father. Ben was not Stanley though and when his hand met her cheek, her spine loosened a bit.

“ Ben… ”  Her voice was so much softer than it usually was, partially because it had to fight itself past the lump in her throat.  “ Please… It’s fine. Please don’t get yourself into trouble over this. Over me. ”

"You've been in such a state all day long, my love. Is something the matter?"

Her eyes closed briefly as she mentally kicked herself, upset that she hadn’t been able to hide her sulky mood from Ben. Pushing out a sigh, she tilted her chin up the best she could, lips not quite forming a smile.

“ Oh, well… It’s nothing really… ”  It was a huge deal to her. Her body language said as much— fingers twisting, fidgeting together tightly.  “ It’s just… My father… Well, he’s been quite irate with me as of late, so to punish me, he threw out… all of my books… ”
