people who talk about "cast bloat" in v7/8 are so funny to me bc v4 and especially v5 really suffer from having so few minor and supporting characters—like. literally the only new faces are 1. nameless bit characters, and 2. arc antagonists (the albains, ilia, lionheart, raven, and vernal).
and i think that is the reason those two volumes feel so… empty. they're not actually that slow-paced and there is in fact a LOT of narrative meat on the bones, but v4-5 feel slower and feel like there's less going on in them. (and that is not exactly an uncommon opinion: "nothing happens in v4-5" and "v4-5 are slower paced and that's good actually" are both sentiments that i see a lot.)
but… like, v4 comes out swinging with salem putting her plan into motion, and while juggling between blake / weiss / rnjr / yang on their separate journeys does slow down the progression of character arcs in terms of watching time, narratively things do happen at a fair clip and the story does a good job of weaving these disparate threads together thematically. similarly, v5 murks up the timeline by being non-chronological but none of the characters are ever just sitting around and there is quite a bit of momentum. it just doesn't feel that way—
—because these narrative events feel isolated. menagerie is crowded with nameless extras, only one of whom gets a shred of actual characterization; the only side characters who get anything at all are the antagonists involved in blake's arc. similarly, rnjr meet a few bit players during their journey across anima and then… literally just lionheart, once they reach mistral. vernal is the only bandit with an identity beyond "bandit."
the atlas portions of v4 are comparatively memorable because we DO meet new characters of varying importance: jacques, klein, and whitley get a decent amount of fleshing out in relation to weiss and ironwood, with ironwood's headbutting with jacques giving an indirect glimpse into atlas politics; then there's smaller characters like henry marigold, the business people who talk about the faunus and economic inequality with jacques, the socialite who scoffs about the fall of beacon because how is this our problem.
the same can be said for the other arcs too. the blacksmith and the mayor at the beginning of v4 breathe life into that village; the friendly captain makes the ship feel more alive. nameless extras don't do much for a narrative—they just visually fill out a scene—but bit characters with a bit of personality bring the world to life.
so during the beacon arc, there's a steady widening of the supporting cast (team cfvy + sun and neptune + penny and ironwood in v2, winter and qrow and various tournament competitors in v3). and then in v6, we get dee and dudley, maria and jinn, the cotta-arcs and cordovin and the encounter with pyrrha's (probably) mother. and in v7-8 there's the ace-ops and the happy huntresses and pietro along with bit characters like the councilmen and racist grandma and fiona's uncle. and v9 is chock full of memorable side characters. there is a significant and consistent presence of side and bit characters.
compare that to v4-5, which have long sections of narrative where The Only Characters are… the core cast and the arc antagonists. it makes the world feel smaller and that makes the narrative events feel insulated and unimportant.
a bare-bones cast of only characters who are strictly necessary for the plot will not make v10 feel "tighter" or "better focused," it'll just make vacuo feel lifeless. lol. (and this is not even getting into how rwby uses side characters to develop its core cast; like the point of robyn being so prominent in v7-8 is not to develop robyn herself, it's to incite development with ruby, penny, blake, yang, ironwood, and qrow. she's a catalyst. this is true also of the ace-ops and may.)

Do I feel like volume 8 droped oscar arc he was having ,caz it feels like it to me
*sighs* I…don’t think that’s the case anon-chan. I don’t think or at least I would very much like to think that it’s NOT that the showrunners dropped Oscar’s arc for this season but more so that the showrunners touched base on two VERY important aspect of Oscar’s side of story; concluding one while savouring the last more important one of the two to further delve into for V9.
Tumblr media
As I said, two major aspects of Oscar’s story were brought up during V8. One was the little prince’s true feelings and fears regarding the inevitable merge between him and Ozpin and the second being Oz making amends for his mistakes in the past and finally reconciling with the rest of the team with everyone starting on good terms.
Tumblr media
And as we saw, Ozpin’s reconciliation with the group was addressed for this season. While I didn’t quite like the clunky way the showrunners seemed to slap it in the last minute during the eleventh episode, at least it was still addressed. Oz is now back on good terms with the heroes and I would like to think that this will play a pinnacle part in the real Heffalump in the room that still needs to be addressed for Oscar---his fears about merging with Oz and possibly losing himself or “dying” in the process.
Tumblr media
It shows that there are still more things to come for Oscar next season and what’s interesting to note is that this is the part of his story that has less to do with Oz or Ozma or anything that he got wrapped up in with respect to his lineage or Salem and has more to do with just as Oscar as his own person.
And when I look at it from that point of view, it actually makes me very glad that this is what the showrunners chose to be left to focus on for Oscar since it’s the one that’s most personal to him as his own character outside of his connection and shared role/story with Oz. This will be Oscar’s story. His own journey to figure out for himself.
Tumblr media
So with that thought in mind, that’s what I’m mostly anticipating. I’m sorry that you feel as if Oscar was once again disregarded for this season anon-chan. As a fellow Pinehead who has shared this sentiment about the treatment and direction of the writing for Oscar in past seasons (and still do on some days), I definitely feel your frustration. But I’m hoping that my response here at least helps ease some of that frustration and will hopefully get you interested in what’s still left to come for our boy.
Oscar’s arc isn’t over yet. As a matter of fact, I’d like to think that Oscar’s story is finally REALLY beginning now since technically, the showrunners have addressed all the aspects of his story that he shared with Oz and the Ozma lineage---the whole truth about the God’s Judgement and Ozma’s past with Salem, the team turning their backs on Oz for the truth, Ozpin’s closest comrades reacting to the truth and Oscar as Oz’s successor, meeting Salem in the flesh and briefly becoming her prisoner as she once was during the Lost Fable before Ozma first rescued her, reconciling with Hazel for the death of Gretchen and Oz reconciling with the team.
Apart from the merge and all the stuff with acquiring the last two Relics, I’d like to believe that all the major elements of Oscar’s story that he inherited from Ozpin and shared with him are concluded now. So I’d like to think that moving ahead, things should (hopefully) be MORE Oscar-centric since we still have much to learn about Oscar himself. All the Oz portions of his story have more or less been addressed. So I’m hoping that the next things to come for Oscar will be more in line with HIM and less about Oz since at the end of the day, Oscar is meant to succeed Oz and I’d still like to believe that his experience with the merge is going to be different.
All arrows seem to be pointing to Oscar being different than past Wizards and thus, V9 will (hopefully) be the pinnacle season to address why. At least that’s what this squiggly Pinehead is anticipating. In the meantime, I hope this helps answer your message anon-chan.

Biomed Grid | Thyroid Carcinosarcoma
Introduction
Most thyroid cancers are differentiated cancers. Papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common type of thyroid cancer accounting for about 80% of all thyroid cancers. Follicular thyroid carcinoma is the second most common type of thyroid cancer (about 10-20%) [1&2]. Medullar thyroid carcinoma comprises 6-8% of all thyroid cancers. Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, also called undifferentiated thyroid cancer, makes up 2-3% of all thyroid cancers. The incidence of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma is 1-6%. Squamous cell thyroid carcinoma accounts for only 0.2- 0.7% of all thyroid malignances. This carcinoma is derived from the embryonic remnants such as thyroglossal duct. The incidence of non-epithelial malignancies (lymphoma, sarcoma, teratoma and others) is 1-2%. Most non-epithelial thyroid carcinomas are different types of thyroid lymphomas [2&3]. Epithelial and nonepithelial thyroid carcinomas are rare and clinically aggressive tumors with poor prognosis. Surgery is the standard treatment for these carcinomas. It is often very difficult to perform such surgery due to extensive extra thyroid spread and regional metastasis. Carcinosarcoma of the thyroid gland is a very rare tumor accounting for only 0.1% of all thyroid malignancies [4]. The exact pathogenesis of thyroid carcinosarcoma is still unknown [5]. Microscopically, carcinosarcomas contain two independent histological malignant components: carcinoma and sarcoma [5&6]. Carcinosarcoma is extremely aggressive tumor with a poor prognosis [4]. It is known to have early metastasis and progression [4, 5, 7]. To date, 30 cases of thyroid carcinosarcoma have been reported [5]. We report a new case of carcinoma affecting the thyroid gland.
Methods and Results
A 58-year- old women was first seen with thyroid nodule in March 2013. Ultrasound examination of the thyroid (March 2013) revealed right thyroid nodule measuring 2 cm. In September 2013, she noticed enlarged lymph nodes in the right side of the neck and shortness of breath. In November 2013, the patient was examined at the Cancer Center in Krasnoyarsk. Histological examination of biopsy specimen from neck lymph node revealed squamous cell carcinoma. Fibro laryngoscopy showed intratracheal tumor growth. Biopsy specimen obtained from the intratracheal tumor component also confirmed squamous cell carcinoma. The patient was referred to the Cancer Research Institute (Tomsk) for further treatment. On admission, local examination of the neck reveled a conglomerate mass of lymph nodes measuring to 4 cm, matted with the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the internal jugular vein, on the right side of the neck in the middle third (level III), that was confirmed by ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging findings. Thyroid gland US and MRI examinations showed tumor mass in the right thyroid lobe extending to the tracheal wall and intratracheal component (stenosis of half of the tracheal lumen). Fibro laryngoscopy demonstrated the exophytic component of the tumor with extension to the right tracheal rings and membranous portion of the trachea. Sub compensated stenosis of the trachea, which was manifested by shortness of breath, was revealed. Reexamination of histological specimens confirmed diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma both in cervical lymph nodes and in the intratracheal component of the tumor.
A clinical diagnosis of stage T4aN1bM0 thyroid cancer was set and on December 6, 2013, the patient underwent right-sided neck dissection (level II-VI) with ligation and resection of the internal jugular vein and removal of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Thyroidectomy with resection of the tracheal rings (from 1-th to 5-th tracheal rings), cricoid cartilage arch and the lower parts of the thyroid cartilage on the right side was performed. Laryngotracheostomy was created. During neck dissection in the right side of the neck, there were found enlarged metastatic lymph nodes up to 4cm in the middle third of the neck (level III) and up to 2cm in supraclavicular region (region IV). In the middle third of the neck (region III), the neck lymph node was adherent to the front edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the wall of the internal jugular vein. Wedge resection of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and internal jugular vein ligation were performed. Branches of the cervical and brachial plexus and the accessory nerve were preserved. During mobilization of the right lobe of the thyroid gland, tumor was found to spread to the tracheal wall (up to the 4-th tracheal ring) and the right anterolateral surface of the cricoid cartilage. Tumor adherence to the muscle wall of the esophagus to the level of the right piriform sinus was also observed. Mobilization of the right lobe of the thyroid gland with the wall of the trachea and cricoid arch and the lower parts of the thyroid cartilage was performed. Membranous portion of the trachea at this level was also removed. Wedge resection of the muscular wall of the esophagus on the right side was performed. The right recurrent nerve was not visualized. The left lobe of the thyroid gland was removed without any difficulties. Laryngotracheostomy was formed by suturing the skin edges of the neck to the remnant of the tracheal wall on the left side (1.5 cm wide strip). Macroscopic examination of the specimen showed the presence of thyroid tumor with extension to the anterior-lateral and posterior walls of the trachea and the right arch of the cricoid cartilage. Lymph nodes up to 4 cm in diameter were found. The patient received antibiotic therapy in postoperative period.
Histological (hematoxylin and eosin staining) and immunohistochemical (IHC) studies were carried out using antibodies АЕ1/АЕ3 (clone АЕ1/АЕ3, Dako), р63 (7JUL, Leika), Ki67(clone MIB-1, Dako), Vimentinе (clone V9, Novocastra), CEA (clone 12-140-10, Novocastra), TTf (clone 8G7G3/1, Dako), CD56 (clone 123С3, Dako), SMA (clone 1A4, Dako), Desmin (clone DER- 11, Novocastra), MyoD1 (clone 5.8A, Dako), GFAP (clone GA5, Novocastra), S-100 (поликлональное, Dako), Thyroglobulin (Novocastra clone), Calcitonin (clone не ук, Novocastra), CD 57 (clone ТВ-01, Dako). Thyroid tumor was histologically shown to have two components. Tumor from the upper pole of the thyroid and sites of its growth to the trachea was presented as a solid moderatelydifferentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Foci of keratinization were observed. The pronounced expression of Cytokeratine AE1/AE3, p63 was observed in tumor cells. Proliferative activity was high, the Ki67 antigen was expressed in about of 56% of tumor cells. There was no expression of Vimentine. In tumor tissue specimens from the lower pole of the thyroid gland and sites of tumor growth into the surrounding soft tissues, sharply polymorphic cells with nuclei of irregular elongated shape were found.
Tumor cells expressed Vimentine and CD56. A weak expression of Cytokeratine AE1/AE3 was observed, and SMA was expressed in a small proportion of the cells. Proliferative activity in the sarcomatous component was high and the Ki 67 antigen was expressed in about of 52% of tumor cells. No expression of Desmin, MyoD1 was observed. There were found tumor sites with the structures of squamous cell carcinoma and sarcoma. No expressions of GFAP, S-100, Thyroglobulin, Calcitonin and CD 57 were found in both components of the tumor. The left thyroid lobe was 4.0х2.0х1.0 cm in size. Histological examination revealed parenchyma nodes as large colloid-filled follicles. Tumor metastases were detected in 5 of 10 lymph nodes. Squamous cell cancer metastasis was found in 1lymph node, sarcoma metastasis in 1 lymph node and metastases from squamous cell and sarcomatous cell components in 3 lymph nodes. Hence, the histopathological diagnosis was carcinosarcoma of the right thyroid lobed extending beyond the thyroid capsule and invading the trachea and soft tissues, with extended necroses.
The carcinomatous component was present as a moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with foci of keratinization. The sarcomatous component was undifferentiated sarcoma (G2). Five of 10 lymph nodes were found to be histologically positive. Macrofollicular nodular goiter was found in the left lobe of the thyroid gland. Considering findings of immunohistochemical analysis, the final diagnosis was stage T4aN1bM0 thyroid carcinosarcoma. Postoperative radiation therapy was administered after the completion of treatment to eliminate inflammation around tracheolaryngostomy. Disease progression occurred in January 2014. On admission, soft tissue infiltration was seen to the left of tracheolaryngostomy. Subcutaneous nodular lesions measuring up to 1.5 cm were found in the area of postoperative scar on the left side of the neck Chest x-ray (January 16, 2014) revealed mediastinal lymph node metastasis. Ultrasound examination (January 24, 2014) revealed cervical and paratracheal lymph node and diffuse damage to the liver.
Spiral computed tomography (January 22, 2014) revealed lung metastases and showed suspicion of intrathoracic lymph node metastases. Magnetic resonance imaging of neck soft tissues (January 28, 2014) confirmed the presence of large lesion in the bed of the removed thyroid gland and metastases in neck lymph nodes. The final diagnosis was stage T4aN1bM0 thyroid carcinosarcoma, disease progression, continuous tumor growth and the evidence of neck, mediastinal and lung metastases. Considering histopathological results, spread of recurrent tumor, presence of regional and distant metastases, a special treatment was not given. Symptomatic therapy was recommended
Discussion
The term “carcinosarcoma” was first used by Rudolf Virchow in 1865 [8]. Carcinosarcomas have been observed in various organs throughout the body including the ovary, uterus, larynx, lungs, prostate, salivary glands, breast, esophagus, liver and other organs [5]. Indeed, this tumor type usually affects visceral organs and is characterized as unusual and uncommon neoplasm that is comprised by an admixture of two components: carcinomatous and sarcomatous [5&9]. Carcinosarcoma components have different histological patterns. Carcinomatous component is more often associated with follicular and papillary cancers [5, 6, 7, 10]. Sarcomatous component usually has the following histotypes: osteosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, undifferentiated sarcoma and chondrosarcoma [4, 5, 6, 7]. In most cases, structural components of carcinosarcoma are in a tumor by isolated areas with the formation of transition zones with interpenetration of the components [9, 10].
Conclusion
The present case of thyroid carcinosarcoma is of interest because the carcinomatous component is a rare squamous cell thyroid carcinoma. Biopsy material showed only squamous cell carcinoma. The aggressive tumor growth can be explained by the nature of squamous cell carcinoma. Accurate diagnosis was possible only after studying surgical specimens. Both tumor components have ability to invasive growth. Lymphogenous metastasis is typical for squamous cell carcinoma. In contrast, lymphogenous metastasis of sarcomas rarely occurs in comparison with carcinomas. In our case, lymph node metastases from undifferentiated sarcoma were detected in equal number with lymph node metastases from squamous cell carcinoma. In accordance with previously approved hypothesis, mesenchimal to epithelial transition is one of the key conditions for developing sarcoma metastases [10]. Signs of mesenchimal to epithelial transition are present in the sarcomatous component of thyroid carcinosarcoma. This is evidenced by the expression of cytokeratin, which is detected using AE1/AE3 antibodies. The presence of distant metastases (lung metastases) is typical for sarcomatous component of carcinosarcoma. Our clinical case confirms the aggressive character of such rare disease as thyroid carcinosarcoma showing a high potential for regional and distant metastases. At present, a comparative study of chromosomal abnormalities of carcinomatous and sarcomatous components is considered a promising approach to clarify the exact histogenesis of carcinosarcoma and to assess the treatment options.

Hair Protection Generally, the Dyson airwrap and Supersonic hair dryer both have temperature regulating technology. With that, these two hair styling tools have the ability to protect the hair. Compared to the conventional hair straighteners and curlers out there, none of these two devices from Dyson utilizes direct heat in styling the hair. Basically, the air coming from the device may get hot but the two of them use extreme airflow in smoothing, drying, and styling the tresses. Speed When it comes to the speed, the Supersonic hair dryer tends to be quite faster rating the overall hair blow-drying performance. The Dyson airwrap’s pre-styling dryer and brush attachments also have the ability to dry quickly. However, its barrels can dry the hair out for about 40 minutes to around an hour. Versatility Because of the multiple product attachments, the Dyson airwrap tends to be more versatile compared to the supersonic hair dryer. Well, if you are willing to accept the challenge of learning its usage and want to have a single hair styling device that can do it all for you, the airwrap hair styler is a good pick. But, the Supersonic hand dryer is highly recommendable for enjoying out a simple, sleek blowout look. Storage Although it has a very long cord, the Supersonic hair dryer seems to be much easier to store. It’s still make use of its compactness even when its product inclusions are attached to it. This is also a hair styling product that is ideal for someone who wants a hair tool that can give a salon-like result of hair blowout at home. IS DYSON AIRWRAP WORTH THE MONEY?Honestly, you won’t usually make use of the amazing features of multiple product inclusions or the various curling barrels of Dyson airwrap hair styler. However, if all that you want is a basic solution to dry and style out your hair with some sort of shape, this hair styling tool is a good option to buy. Moreover, if you tend to consider all of the features and things for considerations, this Dyson airwrap surely worth it, most likely for those who like to do their hair frequently. WHY IS DYSON SO EXPENSIVE?Generally, Dyson has invested about £2.5 billion. Others think that this is for research and development purposes. But, the main goal of this investment is primarily for the accommodation of a center for their almost 1,200 employees, 22 units of laboratories, space for their prototyping activities, and areas for collaborative works. ARE DYSONS OVERRATED?Well, even the older versions or models of Dyson products are not hated. Most products from Dyson are generally decent and fine machines. Yet, the reason why they are highly overrated by the public is due to the fact that lots of those users who are yet to use a machine from Dyson actually fall in the price range of $500 and above. Final Thoughts Dyson airwrap and Supersonic hair dryer are such wonderful hair styling tools from Dyson. They generally offers unique and wide array of uses and styling options for the hair with great ease and convenience.
