#lotr#lord of the rings#tolkien#lotr my other love#lotr arwen#for those curious it means 'good' 'fair' or 'fine' in welsh#or could be a female version of the male name Arwyn which means muse#certainly sindarin was inspired by welsh and perhaps tolkien even was inspired by this name in particular#but the meaning 'noble maiden' is STRICTLY sindarin#and not quenya either i saw you behind the name commenter the quenya wouldn't end with 'wen' nor would someone be going about with a quenya#name on the hither shore in the third age. Especially NOT a descendant of Thingol#in quenya it would be Arawende or Arwende or Arvende#or Artanis#which i just realized is a nice nod to her grandmother Galadriel. huh#smooth move tolkien#BUT#the fact remains that the harsh consonant end is almost completely foreign to quenya#if you are trying to figure out if something is quenya or sindarin#the simplest solution is 'does it end in a vowel or not'#the vowel of feanor if you will#that was a terrible joke#thank heavens no one reads the tags#tldr; arwen at the simplest glance can be discovered as Sindarin not quenya#again#do your research people#this took me under five minutes to double check cause i unlike some people usually try to check my information before i make statements#i might still mess up but at least i made an effort#anyway#yeh
