So when she and Percy and Grover break into the Underworld and see Elysium in the distance, she asks Grover, somewhere between hesitance and stubborn unwillingness to hear anything different —

"That's where Thalia and my brother are, right?"

And Percy watches as Grover starts to qualify his answer, only to catch himself and very gently reassure her that of course that's where Jason and Thalia are.

She grips her knife more tightly, looks at Elysium longingly for a moment, then turns her away with a grim determination that doesn't belong on a child's face but that Percy immediately recognizes.

He didn't even know she had a brother, but suddenly he thinks of his mother's face and the understanding, wordless, sinks bone deep.

They press on towards Hades.
