THE GERUDO POST
(aka an attempt at a critique of how gerudos were handled in BotW and before)
Oh no. TOTK being right around the corner, it might finally be time for the Gerudo Post.
(aka half of the reason why I made a Zelda sideblog in the first place)
So I want to preface all of this by saying that, as you could probably tell already, Iāve always adored the gerudos. They have fascinated my small child brain when I was 7; then the obsession made its comeback when I was 14, and now, here we are, almost 28, and Iām still thinking about the gerudos. I think they might be among my favorite fictional cultures for their potential and their understated storyline. I guess growing up in a very Arabic neighborhood, coupled with being bi-culturally latinx (?? does Brazil count?? you tell me), also always made them feel like home to me āespecially when I was very young and there was not a lot of cool female representation flying around that managed to involve fiercely independent PoC women, flaws and teeth included.
This whole weird-essay-thing tries to do two things. First: analyze the place gerudos have occupied in the series, their initial problematisms and their subtextual narrative arc during the Myth Era coupled with their relationship to Ganondorf. Second: tiptoe to Breath of the Wild and poke it with a stick to see what happens āand in doing that, explain why I believe a lot of their characterization was defanged in service of smoothing their past with the hylians instead of deepening the culture on its own terms, and why Iām a little apprehensive about what that might mean for TotK even though I adore seeing the best girls at it again.
Those are the uhh terms of service??
And now, we must go back to 1998.
OCARINA OF TIME ERA
Thereās so many things about the gerudos that are noteworthy and rich, and theyāve made for a complex piece of Zelda lore ever since their introduction āand when I say complex, I donāt 100% mean it as praise. The very racially charged decisions made about their inclusion have been discussed at length by the fandom, especially when it comes to orientalist and Islamophobic tropes being deployed pretty thoughtlessly in Ocarina of Time (their sigil being literally a crescent moon and star originally, the parallels are pretty obviously there).
Weāre talking about a band of amazon-like, big-nosed brown women from the desert ruled by a single Scary Evil Man born once every hundred years hellbent on conquering Hyrule who they apparently worship like a god, characterized primarily as thieves, decked in jewelry and orientalist-inspired harem/belly-dancing clothing, hostile to the white good guys of Hyrule (especially men), unblessed by the Goddesses and so deprived of elongated ears (this is true for OoT āweāll come back to that), also known as a demon tribe with their deity straight-out described as evil-looking by Navi (on my way to cancel you on twitter Navi you watch out), and secretly led by evil twin witches who can turn into a single seductress and, as two mothers, raised their Scary Evil Guy king who happens to basically be the devil.
In so few words, gerudos are the future that liberals want.
Itās worth notice, also, that Ganondorfās characterization in this game isā¦ kind of relentlessly uncomfortable to play through, especially before the 7 year skip. The utter assumption of depraved and evil intents from every character surrounded by dialogue that does little to hide its biases in spite of having generally very little proof to back them up āeven though, in the gameās context, every character is correct to call his eyes evil and the darkness of his skin a moral judgment in on itself. The scene where Zelda demands that we believe her conclusion that the sole and only brown guy in the entire kingdom is evil and will do harm, and the game straight out refuses to progress until we concede that her dreams are prophetic and that this man must be stopped at any cost even though she has no more proof than her discomfortā¦ hits different on replay.
Iām restating all of this not to pretend Iām making a novel and thought-provoking point, but to bounce back on a tumblr post I saw a while back (that I canāt find anymore!! Iāll link it if I find it again) āand so express what it is that gripped me with the gerudos in spite of their pretty damning depictionā¦ and actually maybe thanks to it.
Thereās a surprising amount of texture to Ocarina of Timeās worldbuilding that exists folded within the things introduced and left hanging, or in its subtext āand whether on purpose or not, I believe it is why people keep coming back to this iteration of Hyrule.
What was that about the king of Hyrule unifying a war-torn country? Why did the gerudos break the bridge connecting them to the rest of the kingdom during the 7 year timeskip while still worshiping Ganondorf, and why are the carpenters trying to rebuild it against their apparent wishes? What was that about gerudos imprisoning hylian men trying to force entry into their lands? What was that about the secret death torture chambers right next to the Royal Familyās tomb and connected to the race of people who were, apparently, born to serve them?
Nothing? Oh okayā¦ okayā¦ okayā¦.
The same can be said about this strange depiction of this hostile tribe, consistently described as wicked yet suddenly friendly once you prove you deserve their respect once you... defeat them, so you now have joined them? Ocarina of Time isnāt very consistent when it comes to characterizing them as their occupation (thieves) or as a proper culture, with a king and a strange system of rulership that seem to involve at least 5 people: Ganondorf, the Twinrova, Nabooru and the unnamed random woman who decides youāre now part of the gerudos because you slashed enough of them with your sword and hookshot, which, uhh ok.
Theyāre but a ragtag and negligible group when discussed next to gorons and zoras and hylians, but they also clearly have their own religion and at least a 400-hundred years old history (probably far longer than this) and hints of a written language of their own. Iām not sure the game itself knows what it wants them to be, beyond: intimidating and hot and cool, but also wicked and, because of Ganondorf and the way you barge in their forbidden fortress (heh) with the explicit intent to dismantle their king, in apparent need to be saved from themselves.
Speaking of rulership and the Spirit Temple, letās have a quick tangent about Nabooru: I always found her characterization when meeting with Child Link pretty strange. I refuse to mention the promised reward, which feeds into everything orientalist mentioned above, but I always found her moral compass so extremely convoluted for someone coming from gerudo culture. Nabooru says that, despite being a cool thief herself, she resents Ganondorf for killing people as well as stealing from women and children. Stealing... from women. Nabooru. Why are you this pressed that he steals from women!!! This feels so out of place, that the only girl of that hostile culture that betrays her king and befriends you, is the one that upholds moral values that only a hylian could possibly hold.
Either way: the strange unquestioned contempt of the game for them as a culture, mixed with the occasional bouts of heart, friendliness and badassery, makes it hard not to consider their depiction as pretty biased in favor of the hylians finding them at once exotic, scary and exciting, and could hide a more complex reality you might only get one side of āespecially when you know there were originally plans for Ganondorfās character to be more gray and motivated than what the campy final version ended up being. To be blunt: even in the context of a game for children, and maybe because of that fact, it all reads like a reductionist and imperialist/colonialist reading of a more complex situation.
This might seem like A Lot coming from a game where the actual game writing can be this overall flimsy and simplistic due to the standards of the time (itās rough, it's so rough). But I would have never dwelt on that thought about a little childrenās game if not for the mainline entries that came soon after, because... ooo boy.
The sense youāre not getting the whole story was certainly not helped by the introduction of Wind Waker Ganondorf, and the chilling emptiness of Gerudo Desert in Twilight Princess.
AFTER THE TIMELINE SPLIT
(Iām skipping Majoraās Mask, not because I dislike them in the game or think theyāre not worth talking about, but because itās a parallel universe and theyāre never even called gerudos and their reality seems extremely different from their sisters in Hyrule so I think itās okay to call them tangential and not dive too deep in this particular depiction)
Hereās something I want to highlight about gerudos and how they were characterized before BotW came along: their absence. Not only their physical absence, the lack of any gerudo character that calls themselves gerudo, but their absence from the text itself.
Itās not that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess retroactively scratch them off existence: we can clearly see Nabooruās stained glass art in WW as well as recognize them being mentioned in Ganondorfās final boss soliloquy, and WELL thereās quite a lot to say about their imprint over the world of TP. They are there āor at least they... were there. But nobody ever talks about what happened.
In Wind Waker, there was the deluge. Itās assumed lots of people died then, and those who survived scattered across the Great Sea. Are they sealed under the waves? Have they drowned? Is Jolene, Linebeckās ex-girlfriend in Phantom Hourglass, a distant relative of one of the rare survivors? Itās unclear, beyond the fact that Ganondorf is the only living gerudo we see in this entire branch of the Timeline split.
In Twilight Princess, the desert which bares their name is empty. The hylians never mention that it used to be the name of a tribe: theyāre not even named when Ganondorf is introduced for the first time, reduced once again to a mere band of thieves. We learn his plans to steal the Triforce in OoT were foiled, and that he may have turned to war. Then he lost the war, and was executed in Arbiterās Ground: a strange structure in the desert, a mixture between a temple, a prison and a coliseum. What looks like gerudo writing coexists with hylian symbols, which often look much fresher. This dungeon is the Shadow Temple of TP: a prison hosting the worst criminals the kingdom has ever known, now haunted and cursed. Besides the locations, the only character that vaguely look gerudo in the entire game besides Ganondorf is Telma, a character with pointed ears that never seems to identify as anything but a hylian. What happened? Whoās to say. Nobody ever says anything. Not even Ganondorf bothers to mention them the way he did in WW āand though the gameās story is quite focused on another exiled tribe seeking revenge and dominion over Hyrule as retribution, the parallel is never explicitly drawn. So whoās to say what happened there. Whoās to say.
And in A Link to the Past and the games forward? The only mention of other gerudo characters are Koume and Kotake, resurrecting their son in the Oracles games through their own sacrifice and failing to bring anything back but a monstrosity incapable of making conscious decisions. Granted, most games in that extremely weird Fallen Timeline predate OoT and therefore had yet to make gerudos up at all. Still: canonically, between the gap of OoT and ALLTP, whatever it may be, gerudos disappeared here as well.
I think thereās something subtle and a little heartbreaking about the fact that no matter what Ganondorf does, the gerudos always end up dying out. His yearning for Hyrule, its gentler wind and the Triforce blessing its lands always costs him the kingdom that he does have already.
Now, does he care? A lot of people would argue that he doesnāt, that he used them like pawns for his own ambition and saw them as servants more-so than sisters, and I wouldnāt be surprised if it was Nintendoās official opinion, butā¦ One very powerful thing about most of Ganondorfās incarnations (focusing on the human ones) is that he never seems to reject his cultural heritage. They could have gone for him wearing more kingly hylian stuff given the whole underlying theme of envy and pride surrounding his character, but never once does he try to look more hylian, beyond the ear situation that seems to be tied to the Triforce of Power? Either way: he is gerudo. Several of his outfits reference his mothers, as well as general gerudo patterning and jewelry. His heritage is something he proudly displays, even hundred of years in the future when there is no one left to remember what it means but him. I think itās a very potent piece of characterization, an arc that crosses over multiple game and says something pretty intense about this characterās fate and his inherent destructiveness over the things he touches āstarting with the Triforce, all the way up to his very own body and mind. His mental breakdown by the end of Wind Waker, when the king of Hyrule himself forces him to give up on the thing he sacrificed everything for, takes a new kind of weight with the whole picture taken into account.
(not to excuse genocide or general egomania-fueled madness and violence, but one thing doesnāt mean the other isnāt also relevant)
Regardless of whether this is a tragedy for Ganondorf as their uhh complete failure of a king, honestly, it is undeniably a tragedy for the gerudos themselves: a once-in-a-lifetime joyful event turned into a never-ending nightmare from which there seems to be no escape, their legacy now condemned to fade to black, leaving nothing behind but a demon boar forever laying ruin upon the world.
One may say Iām taking on the bleakest explication for the gerudosā absence when there could be others. Itās true! Perhaps the gerudos are just chilling off-screen, completely fine, not interested in whatever is happening in the kingdom nearby and their disaster child having yet another temper tantrum about not being the Goddessesā favorite boy. Itās possible! But regardless, what little elements we do possess as players doesnāt seem to support this, even if it remains possible āand regardless of actual gerudo lives, gerudo culture is definitively a goner in every single timeline.
Even if they did survive... Hyrule still won its unification war.
(I wonāt mention Skyward Sword as they are not really a thing there, except for a butterfly that seems to suggest the Gerudo Province was a thing before the gerudo people āI donāt know what to do with this honestlyā and the whole Groose situation, which, Iām not sure what to make of either beyond the fact that he may have gotten cursed by opposing Demise? And then went on to start the gerudo tribe, which ended up being an all-women group for some reason? Maybe? Itās not confirmed? I feel like itās more of a fun tidbit than a central piece of the gerudo puzzle, so Iāll leave it there like I would a cool rock I brought back from a walk and that I donāt know where to put in my house)
Then, Breath of the Wild happened and changed things.
BREATH OF THE WILD
(Additional short note, but: while I wonāt mention Four Swords Adventure, since itās a weird one that almost nobody has played and severely messes with the Timeline, we kind of see the beginnings of what is about to happen in Breath of the Wild in this game āgerudos coming back without much explanation, then distancing themselves from Ganondorf to become friends with hylians because he was too hungry for power and now they are nice and have good reputation because they are our friendsss)
I was actually so happy to learn gerudos were making a comeback in a mainline Zelda game, and this got me more excited about Breath of the Wild than basically anything else the game involved. And getting to explore the Desert once again, meeting this new batch of impossibly tall buff girls, getting more about their language and their culture, Riju and the rest of the little girls are adorable, the grandmas are so cool, the sand seals??? sign me the fuck up??? And above it all, hanging around Gerudo Town at night and feeling as warm and cozy as little me liked to imagine how freeing it would feel, to stay there and watch the desert behind the safety of their walls in OoTā¦ This was great. I loved it.
It was a huge compensation for the criticism Iām about to make, but did leave me withā¦ questions regarding how their culture was going to be handled moving forward.
Iāll start with something small yet deeply revelatory, then work my way from there.
So... gerudosā ears are pointy now.
This is pretty significant. Lore-wise, itās been said that the elongated ears of hylians are there so they can better hear the voices of the gods. Itās considered a sign of holiness in-universe. There's a bunch of really thoughtful analysis on tumblr over that whole Ganondorf ear situation, which is a mess but also very interesting, but the short answer is: I think the absence of pointy ears was a clear design choice to originally signify them as Less Good. Even when Ganondorf gets pointier ears, they never get as long as hyliansā. Worth noting: not every non-gerudo character has pointy ears: gorons, zoras and ritos (among others) do not possess this trait, and there are even some humans that have regular rounded ears in the series āthough they always seem to be of lesser relevance, if not downright peasants in Twilight Princess. Pointy ears always tended to implied a strict hierarchy in the series: basically, the more pointy, the more Protagonist you become.
(also their eyes becoming green instead of the traditional yellow/golden, which looks more wicked and demonic --and cooler also tbh)
The pointy ears imply two things. From within the game, this could be interpreted in two ways: either that gerudosā¦ converted, for a lack of a better term, and are now considered holy through their worship of the Golden Goddesses and/or Hylia, or that their mingling with hylians through tens of thousands of years had them acquiring this trait out of sheer genetic override (though they have kept their mostly-women birth rates, their big nose, darker skin āfor the most partā and red hair). Probably a healthy mixture of both. Design-wise, it signifies something quite simple to the player: they are on hyliansā side now. They are good guys. We can trust them, even if they still have a little spice in them. They aligned themselves with us and against Ganon in all of its manifestations (even if heās but an angry ghastly pig being parasitic to everything it touches in this iteration). They are on the side of Good, definitively, and will fight evil by our side.
On that note, I think itās worth bringing out another major change from their initial iteration, which is their overt friendship with Hyrule as a whole, and with the Royal Family in particular. Despite not allowing any voe inside their walls (weāll come back to this), their relationship with hylians is pretty neat. They have booming trade roads, travel and meet with the rest of the cultures, and are fierce enemies with the Yiga clan, who are renowned for being huge Calamity Ganon supporters. The tables certainly have turned. I want to bring out, in particular, Urbosaās friendship with the queen and her role as the cool aunt taking care of Zelda and protecting her from evil (to be noted: I am not familiar with Age of Calamity so if Iām mischaracterizing her in any way, please let me know). The gerudo sense of sisterhood has been extended to the royals they used to fight against. I would go on and say the cultures peacefully coexist, but I think that what weāre looking at here is a case of vassal behavior, just like we used to have from zoras (in the non-Fallen Timelines) and gorons. This is a huge departure from gerudos being openly rejecting of Hylian culture in their initial iteration, and something that is worth returning to later.
Okay. Now itās time to mention the weird obsession BotW gerudos have with romance. I didnāt take notice of my issues with their writing until I realized how prevalent of a theme that was. Now, the reason given for gerudos to refuse entry to males (of every race) has much more to do with preventing young gerudos to make mistakes than anything else, and is actively being put into question by the younger generations āwhich would make sense. But the amount of NPCs that either lament their lack of match, talk about their husbands (because they marry now apparently) or are invested in romance, and a very limited understanding of romance at that (heterosexual, closed, etc), makes for much more of the population that I initially expected. Thereās no mention of whatās going on with their males, if there are new males being born and either exiled or abandoned, or if Ganondorf being technically still alive have have cut them off male heirs. Either way: no more kings, only girlbosses chiefs.
To have the gerudos so interconnected with Hyrule, not only through trade but through extremely coded romance where they have to make themselves palatable to a future male partner and enforce fidelity, wasā¦ a choice. The extremely brief and skippable mention of gerudos sometimes going to Castle Town in search for boyfriends in OoT became half of their personality traits in this game. We went from a race that was fiercely independent and mocking of the unworthy men who tried to mingle with them, toā¦ this. Now Iām not saying some of the sidequests arenāt cute, or that I didnāt like the wedding, or that the grandma near the abandoned statue of Hylia (so she was worshipped at some point) clocking us and talking about her love life wasnāt one of my favorite gerudo conversations. Iām saying that the vibes have definitively changed. For the better? Iām not sure.
I once stumbled upon an article that said that Breath of the Wild gerudos were a huge improvement compared to their original introduction, because they were no longer presented as evil and hostile thieves groveling at the boot of a single man, but as a full culture allied with the protagonist and actively involved in the story, while still getting their Cool Girl Badass moment (again canāt find it anymore, Iāll link it if I stumble upon it again). I see where this comes from, but I honestly canāt help but consider it a reading that assumes something pretty major (though through no fault of their own, as the games tend to hammer this down as hard as they can), and that being hylians as the unquestioned anchor of Good.
Which, in spite of what the games want me to believe, Iā¦ feel uncomfortable taking at face value.
To me, regarding how gerudos are being incorporated in that goodie narrative, this is kind of a case of surface-level feminism trumping over colonialist/imperialist concerns. It becomes more important to perform the aesthetics of being cool and friendly and independent than scratching at any deeper problem that would risk making people uncomfortable. This is kind of Green Skin Ganon all over again: oh wait, isnāt it a little icky to have the evil bad guy being brown while faced by the most aryan-looking ass heroes of all time? Okay, then letās take the brown guy and make his skin green so we donāt have to feel bad anymore that the conflict has racial undertones!! Solved!! Thereās nothing questionable about changing a PoC's features to make it more monstrous and less human, right?
To me, itās kind of the coward option: instead of accepting the messy reality those initial choices created (and their interesting nuances if taken at face value), letās justā¦ rewrite the PoC cultureās history to make it feel less uncomfortable for the white heroes. In many ways, it is an extension of what hylians have always done: scrubbing the weird and messy things about the past and shoving them deep down into the spooky well and far into the desert prison and away in alternate hellish dimensions, and then make up a very simple story where they get to feel good about themselves āexcept this time, itās the fabric of the games, the literal reality, bending backward to make it happen. Which, in my opinion, makes it much worse than before. Now, thereās no conversation. The fabric of reality is changing their own history so that there is nothing to discuss anymore. Ganondorf was always evil incarnate. He never had any point. It was always 100% his own fault, his own hubris, his own fated wickedness. He was always demonic (and green, very important āhaving a flashback to people on twitter accusing artists restoring the TotK green skin to the original brown of wanting to make Ganondorf black, and likeā¦.. how do I put it gentlyā¦..)
And, above all else: gerudo are to distance themselves from his legacy so they can stay in the club of the Good and Just and Holy.
Because hereās the messy thing: as much as I love seeing the gerudos again in Breath of the Wild and as much I love for them to have survived the Era of Myth (??? somehow ???), thisā¦ kind of changes Ganondorfās character arc. No longer do we have the story of a king who wanted more, either for his people, for himself or both, and led his culture to its destruction in his search for absolute Power, while remaining ironically incapable of maintaining what little he already had. This starts from him kneeling to the king of Hyrule in OoT and leads to the deluge, Arbiterās Ground, his own mothers dying for the sake of his failed resurrection. Breath of the Wild changes this: now, the gerudo were apparently fine without him? They apparently did their own thing and became suddenly and inexplicably disconnected from his actions? I know itās kind of implied they side with hylians at the end of OoT, but itās honestly never really explored why they would cheer for the death of their king while never seeming to resent him before except for Nabooru āthere are mentions of brainwashing for those who resist him (as well as āother groups in the desertā, tho they are never mentioned again), but itās hardly a proper plot point for the majority of the tribe, aaaand they still die by Wind Waker in the Adult Timeline, in spite of their potential allieganceā¦
(again, this shift towards submitting to Hyrule actually started with Four Swords Adventure, getting crisper with each iteration)
There used to be this polite blur regarding Ganondorfās relationship to them, how much he used them and how much he acted in their name (with arguments for both sides), and I think this messy and debatable question mark was one of the most compelling aspects of his character. Gerudos rejecting their relationship at a near-cosmic, reality-bending level, removes a huge layer of complexity to both partiesā¦ all for the benefit of making hylians come out cleaner out of this whole exchange, their moral grayness barely a whisper in the distance.
Iāll kind of go on the record and say that I suspect the addition of Demise to the canon to serve a similar purpose (at least in part): if Ganondorf becomes but the manifestation of a demonic curse, and is no longer an extremely messy character brimming with agency and drive, forcing the heavens to reckon with said agency in a way he was never meant to access, born from a complex set of circumstances from which we clearly get only a limited and biased perspective, then it becomes extremely clear that heās a Bad in a way that isnāt worth exploring further. Even if he does have some points, he is a Bad. Itās what matters most. Not to say I even hate what this angle can bring to the table or that I want him to become Good (I donāt āIāll talk more about why I dislike most takes on him being a helpless victim to the curse), but once again, who benefits from adding another Unquestionned Baddie to the equation to rest upon? Not him, and not the gerudos, thatās for sure.
So. Why did I, me, personally, like the gerudos in the first place?
Beyond the inherent coolness factor of their culture and the fascinating mysteries of what is merely suggested, I thinkā¦ I think I loved gerudos because we were obvious outsiders. Because their rejection of Hylian culture was so sharp and extreme, their value system so different, and their writing, their religion, their relationship to power and hierarchy and worth wanted nothing to do with hylians. They didnāt need hylians, beyond them having potential resources to steal. In fact, the threat of hylians influencing their culture was such that the entry to the Fortress was forbidden to everyone (I donāt think men were ever singled out, by the way, even though they are mocked relentlessly). I think there was something inherently hopeful about this semi-matriarchy resisting the outside world, and especially its notions of what girls were meant to be āit was 1998, and every other girl character in OoT, besides Impa and Sheik that?? is another can of worms entirely, is either helpless or someone to save. For them to reject this narrow vision of femininity was, in my opinion, much more radical than what we got in BotW. Less nuanced, more problematic perhaps? But also much more powerful. Gerudo Valley is home, not to a town, but a Fortress.
Hylians were worth being resisted.
In Breath of the Wild, their refusal to let men enter their town is kind of boiled down to a fading tradition over-focused on romance, a meek little game of chase. Their entire goal seems to be finding a hylian to settle down with. Say what you will about the single man and the many girls (never explored and completely open-ended in its implications, btw), but at least it wasnātā¦ that. At least it opened the way for different ways for people to exist and imagine culture and civilization, outside of the heterosexual couple, the christian-infused patriarchy and its trickling down implications. What I want to say is: let my girls tell hylians they aināt shit!! That they arenāt the end all be all of reality! This is what made gerudos so compelling in the first place! Where is that bite now? Where is that self-definition?
Itās gone, because hylians need to be Good. So we tee-hee at the creep running laps around the town, we disguise ourselves to breach their trust and infiltrate their town (though there is nuance to be had there, gender be complicated etc), we watch them pine after shitty dudes and take classes to become the perfect approachable woman and make love soups with ?? strange ingredients honestly, and we witness them get very friendly with the Royal Family they used to conspire against, dying to protect the princess against the manifestation of their ancient king reduced to a raving puddle of Bad Boar.
Hyrule, unified against him.
TEARS OF THE KINGDOM
For posterityās sake: this post was made before the game was released. Iāll probably update my thoughts on a separate thing later on.
I donāt think gerudos allying with the hylians and burying their own legends about Ganondorf as deeply underground as they can until it blows up in their face is a bad setup at all. Itās actually pretty juicy, and thereās a ton of fascinating stuff that could happen here āeven some involving gerudos taking a firm stand against him while still reconnecting with their past and the choices they made once. This is my hope with the title of the game: Tears of the Kingdoms. Letās examine them all, account for the damage, and decide how we move forward from there with the full knowledge of where we come from.
What I am afraid of (and I already made posts about that) is the scenario where gerudos rallying against Ganondorf, which I expect will forcefully try to take back his place as their king, is used for cheap feminist points that completely fail to examine, well. Everything mentioned above. Where reality bends itself out of the way of the Goddesses, and hyliansā responsibility in any of this mess, so that everything bad is 100% Ganonās fault and so he must be cast aside and torn away from the Cool Gerudo Girls and this is 100% justified and deserved because we are Independent Women Who Take No Shit from No Men (unless they are the king of Hyrule or any random hylian they wish to marry apparently).
Iāll say this here because itās been burning my mouth every time I see discourse about Ganondorf and the gerudo: gerudos declared him as their king. To make a really bad comparison that I dislike: he didnāt run around to assemble girls and make a cult around himself, he was born with the cult already formed around him (and itās not a cult, itās just a different mode of governance āhylians also revere the Royal Family like gods, donāt they?). This heavily changes the dynamics at play. Not to remove any agency from him to do a little invasion about it, but chances are the ancestors to BotWās gerudos fully expected him to behave in this way, at least to a degree āin OoT you see very plainly that they value physical prowess, feats of thievery, witchcraft and general violence. Itās more complicated than him being a Bad and making the poor helpless women go along with the plan uwu āeven taking the brainwashing into account, AND Koume and Kotake counting as gerudos too, even if they might not be not fully innocent in shaping the culture and the man himself. If manipulation and forced servitude is the explanation given, Iāll be genuinely mad ābecause, once more, all the nuance and messiness would be flattened for the sake of making Ganondorf Bad and the gerudo Good (= on hyliansā side).
It bears to be said: I think feminism stances that require, not to criticize (which is fair), but to fully dehumanize and bestialize men of color to make any sense are uhhh bad, and it's worth questionning who they end up serving in the end.
The flip side of this would be to make Ganondorf a poor little meow meow that was secretly controlled by the evil Demise all along, and... Iāll be real. I really donāt think it solves our problem at all. It might even make it worse.
My problem with how gerudos have been handled thus far, being mostly connected to how they behave in relation to hylians Good, is that theyāve been systematically defanged not to threaten the status quo as much as they used to. I think itās pretty clear why Iām not a fan of Ganondorf being a mere victim of cosmic circumstances; I have a post that goes more in depth about this, but to simplify: my man has legitimate grievances. To make him a mere puppet to Evil Incarnate would, to me, be just another attempt to erase the despotism of the Goddesses, the unjust hierarchy of the world, what hylians have historically done to the races they were in conflict with (looking at the Yiga for the most recent exampleā¦)
Iām not saying his fight is clean or even legitimate, that he isn't driven by his own sense of self-importance above anything else, or that he should win (he has no plan beyond domination and victory, that's not a future). But I think thereās something really important about having someone being willing to fully consume himself and everything around him for the simple fact that someone should resist the order of the world. Even if that makes him a heartless, cruel, and egomaniac demon-pig. Even if thereās no Hyrule left to rule. Even if his own people despise him, or are long gone and forgotten.
Is it a little heart-wrenching? Uhh yes to me yes most definitively. This is why Wind Waker Ganondorf hits so hard, and remains (I think) his favorite entry in the series so far. Butā¦ I still find this fate of eternal resistance more resonant and empowered, and far less grim, than if Hyruleās lore absorbs his hatred and rage, gives it to another entity that would be Badder (= more opposed to hylians and the goddesses), and scrubs it off anything icky and uncomfortable, rendering it completely domesticated and non-threatening to hylian domination; rubbed of his skin color, of his complexity, of his own emotions, even made... kind of sexy now, in the same way his sisters have been made before him? I am very, very afraid of him being turned from furious and an unapologetic subject in his own legend to a "redeemed" (according to whom??) and palatable object in somebody elseās, that you now end up having toā¦ save from himself.
Again, I want to trust that Tears of the Kingdom can walk that line and preserve everything sharp and contrasting and profound and thrilling about this fascinating setup. I donāt expect a philosophy course, this is a game for children ābut it doesnāt mean Nintendo didnāt do an astounding job with similar setups in the past. Again, Iāll invoke the Wind Waker conflict, but Twilight Princess did a lot of great things as well (Zantās speech, if you can get past the weird stretches and stumping and NNHYAAAs, is pretty fantastic) āand the subtle writing of Majoraās Mask is also proof enough this series can be complex without being impermeable.
So this is where my hope lies. Not really with BotWās writing, which, Iām sorry to say, but I found to be below what the series has done in the past (I have no problem with the setup and how the story is explored, I think it was a great idea, but wasnāt ever sold on the actual writing the way I may have been with previous titles āit feltā¦ very tropey to me overall, with a couple of highlights). But Nintendo has shown to know how to write compelling stories for children that know where to sprinkle its darkness and how to preserve its hope, and this is this side Iām relying on for this delicate storyline moving forward.
And now? Nowā¦ I suppose we wait and see.
(thank you for reading my impossibly long essay what the actual hell, at least I got it all out of my system, see you in part 2 for when TotK comes out I suppose aaa)

Maurauders Era Characters if they were Demigods (with explanations)
ive been listening to Epic and rereading my harry potter writing (really trying to work on my fanfic, im just stretched kinda thin)
edit: here is pt. 2
anyway
this is pt. 1 because I will be doing more, and golden trio era characters too
Remus Lupin:
This boy is the most Son of Athena kid i have ever seen in my entire life look at him He is so smart in so many different ways I just he's so quick witted and brave, and he was so ready to throw himself into battle. strategizing to use his unique attributes even when his superiors (who had political leanings) told him otherwise. But his intellect doesn't mean he has a lack of empathy he's also really crafty but not in the "hot gluing pieces of felt in the basement" type of crafty he's just got such a good mind
James Potter:
Ok ok so hear me out Hermes. Hermes Hermes Hermes. Hermes is the god of so many things-- Jack of all trades, really, and James is just so damn good at everything he does. He's also incredibly fast on a broom. He makes friends wherever he goes (pretty fitting if your father is the god of travellers) and is mischevious without dipping into the villain area (most of the time).
Sirius Black:
Aphrodite. Hands down. Did not have to think when I said this. Everyone at school is fully aware that he is attractive and he can charm almost anyone. he is very charismatic. He can speak French and I BELIEVE Italian... ok it just... makes sense to me... (btw regulus will be in pt. 2)
Peter Pettigrew:
Also Hermes. Let me explain-- Beyond the fact that it would justify him feeling closer to James, we can use the other side of the Hermes coin for this. Hermes is the god of pretty much anything you encounter on the road. Hermes is not evil or anything-- but he does technically protect thieves and liars. Peter and James have parallels that make me believe both of them would be sons of Hermes, but their hearts were different.
Lily Evans:
This one was hard. I was thinking Demeter- then Apollo- then Athena- Hestia isnt an option but like, it might fit if it was-- I'm gonna say Athena because while YES, she does learn healing magic, she's also just incredibly bright in general. She and Remus are both brainchildren ok She's also very witty in her comebacks and stubborn-- im referring to her behavior in general, not just when it comes to james. For example, even though Petunia hated her, she still was so determined to have a good relationship with her sister.
Mary MacDonald:
OO, oo, i want to say Aphrodite, but then I remember that sirius is aphrodite and that would be WEIRD but if sirius was anyone elses kid, mary would be an aphrodite kid, i just, like? look at her. she celebrates her femininity, she's so confident in herself, i love her
other than aphrodite, I might say... Hebe. Seems like a deep reach, but she's the goddess of youth.
Marlene McKinnon:
APOLLO. Apollo. Apollo. Marlene has always wanted to be a healer. She's also a great flyer. I don't know what else to say about it but like- Apollo? yes, yes

ā¶ backstory ā¶
In the year 1976, my biological father, Regulus Black, turned against his family and ran away with plans to eventually destroy the horcrux locket. Very soon after he ran away, he met my mother: Mariana Valladares. My mother comes from the Valladares family, an aristocratic wizarding family that is one of only 3 pureblood families in Portugal.
My mother got pregnant with me in November of 1976. One month later, my father died attempting to destroy the horcrux locket. Kreacher came back and informed members of the Black family of Regulusā passing. When asked how Regulus passed, all Kreacher said was that it was due to dark magic. To avoid further tarnishing the family reputation, the Black family swore to Voldemort that Regulus had remained loyal to him until his death, despite the fact that none of them had seen him for over 3 months. My mother and Kreacher were the only ones to know the truth.
I was born on July 3rd, 1977, in the small flat in London that Regulus and my mother had acquired before he died. Tragically, in September of that same year, my mother was murdered by the death eaters due to her connection to the Valladares family (one of the worldās only pureblood families who were outspokenly against Voldemortās regime). The morning after the murder, I was found by the ministry investigating the crime scene and identified as Regulusā child. The ministry then informed my biological uncle, Sirius, and he happily took me in as his own. I was then adopted by him and his newly wedded husband, Remus Lupin.
We lived in Godrickās Hollow as neighbors to the Potters until October 31st, 1978, when Lily and James were murdered. It was known that it was Peter Pettigrew who betrayed the Potters that night and he was sent to Azkaban. Harry and his sister, Evaline, were then sent to live with the Dursleys. We moved to St Ottery Catchpole soon after, which is where I grew up.

I think with the JJK ending I'm not in the camp of thinking the final chapter or even a lot of the resolution of the Sukuna fight was bad. I like the final panel of it circling back to the shack and the finger as a ward, I liked the introspection of Sukuna to choose a different life for himself this time with Uraume, instead of embracing himself as "the strongest" and playing out the part of a curse. I liked that it was a team effort to take down Sukuna ultimately while also giving Yuuji a chance to shine in those final moments. I'm also glad Gojo did not comeback to life, he should be able to rest and the new generation gets a chance to take charge.
However, a final chapter was never going to fix the myriad of problems and unanswered questions that roughly the last one and a half years of JJK has had. Pacing I think is what ultimately hurts this series, with the Gojo and Sukuna battle stretched way out, the Kenjaku fight only taking four chapters, and then a way over extended fight with Sukuna with a rushed resolution concerning the return of Nobara and, more glaringly, not focusing on Megumi at all and his development during this time. Chapter 269 is still one of the most baffling chapters I have ever read, giving us answers to questions nobody asked or could of possibly foreseen, and that really don't matter. Spending this time on a secret shadow society that was draining the life of simple domain users, but don't worry! It's all taken care of instead of on the merger, Tengen, Megumi, Nobara, how the jujutsu society would move forward, a solution to cursed energy, the whole cursed corpses plot line, the American military plot line, grieving the people they lost in this fight, etc.
I enjoyed and liked parts of the final stretch of this series, but I think Yuki's death, the American military plot line, and the reintroduction of Gojo into the series with a month long timeskip is a turning point in the series for the worse. The Culling Games introduces a lot of really interesting lore and theory about the Heian era and cursed energy which feels like it dies with Yuki. The American military thread is still bizarre seeing as it drops out of the story as quickly as it's dropped in, and then after Gojo's return, instead of letting the characters breath a little bit after the shakeup of Gojo returning and Megumi being taken over, we jump straight into the dragged out Sukuna fight.
And ultimately I find it somewhat strange to end the last chapter on a benign mission the trio goes on that is similar to something we would of seen at the beginning of the series, like after seeing this system wear down the Hidden Inventory cast, and then we see throughout this series that the cycle continued with wearing down the current students, it's insane to me that they are still going on these missions. Sure the old higher ups are dead, but....what replaced it? It doesn't seem to have really been dismantled if they're just going on missions again. I really would of liked to have seen the merger affect the story more (as was implied tbh) instead of "Yay Sukuna was defeated, time to go back to what we did before." The next generation moves forward, but what are the systemic changes that take place? We'll never know.
I hope Gege finds a different magazine to publish any future series he does, I do think he's a good writer, he's still young, and I hope he does a series that isn't crunched under the weekly schedule of Shonen Jump. he had health problems throughout the latter half of the series and it's not hard to imagine why. A monthly schedule for manga should be the standard, not the exception, and I think a lot of my frustrations with the writing would have been remedied if Gege simply had more time to write the series he wanted to write.
#i'm not touching the yuuta stuff lmao just know im also pissed about that and is included in my hatred for 269#i think gege made a lot of blunders towards the end of the series but i dont think he's a bad writer. there is still a lot in jjk that#i like and makes me think. i hope he gets to make a story in which he includes everything he wants to include#jjk#jjk meta#jjk 271#jujutsu kaisen

( š )Ā āø» #š¤šØšš„š§š š”ššŖ š£š¢š¦š§. ( TW ... misogyny & mistreatment ) BY 99KITSCH, on NOVEMBER 4, 2024.
OLIVE,Ā AIQING,Ā EMIĀ andĀ RAONĀ tookĀ toĀ socialĀ mediaĀ inĀ aĀ jointĀ statement Ā thisĀ morningĀ toĀ announceĀ theirĀ departureĀ fromĀ theirĀ group,Ā SEVENTEEN.Ā the four female members making up the group's subunit, QUARTZ, haveĀ spentĀ theĀ lastĀ SIX (6) MONTHSĀ onĀ hiatus due to arising conflictĀ betweenĀ theirĀ companies.Ā theirĀ lastĀ scheduleĀ asĀ SEVENTEENĀ membersĀ wasĀ theĀ finalĀ dayĀ ofĀ theĀ FOLLOWĀ TOURĀ onĀ MAYĀ 26,Ā 2024,Ā inĀ YOKOHAMA,Ā JAPAN.Ā theirĀ fanbase,Ā CARATS,Ā started to get concerned with the lack of transparency when QUARTZ missed SEVENTEEN'S performance at LOLLAPALOOZA BERLIN.
āāĀ Hello.Ā ThisĀ isĀ OLIVE,Ā AIQING,Ā EMIĀ andĀ RAON.Ā AfterĀ longĀ discussionsĀ withĀ ourĀ teamsĀ currentlyĀ atĀ bothĀ ourĀ companies,Ā weĀ haveĀ mutuallyĀ madeĀ theĀ decisionĀ toĀ terminateĀ ourĀ exclusiveĀ artistĀ contract.Ā WeĀ wouldĀ likeĀ toĀ expressĀ ourĀ gratitudeĀ toĀ CARATSĀ whoĀ haveĀ lovedĀ andĀ supportedĀ QUARTZĀ andĀ SEVENTEENĀ overĀ theĀ years.Ā WeĀ alsoĀ hopeĀ youĀ continueĀ toĀ cheerĀ onĀ usĀ asĀ weĀ prepareĀ aĀ COOL,Ā NEWĀ IMAGEĀ throughĀ aĀ collaborationĀ withĀ NetflixĀ onĀ NovemberĀ 17.Ā UntilĀ nowĀ thisĀ hasĀ beenĀ QUARTZ. āā
QUARTZĀ firstĀ madeĀ theirĀ wayĀ ontoĀ theĀ stageĀ inĀ variousĀ pre-debutĀ videosĀ KNOWNĀ ASĀ THEĀ GREENĀ ROOMĀ fromĀ earlyĀ 2013 - 2015.Ā itĀ wasĀ notĀ longĀ beforeĀ theĀ groupĀ stole everyone'sĀ heartsĀ withĀ theirĀ uniqueĀ talents upon debuting as individual members of SEVENTEEN.Ā whileĀ everythingĀ wasĀ totalĀ blissĀ atĀ theĀ beginning,Ā itĀ didĀ notĀ takeĀ longĀ forĀ theĀ fansĀ toĀ arkĀ upĀ aboutĀ unfairĀ treatmentĀ betweenĀ theĀ femaleĀ andĀ maleĀ membersĀ ofĀ SEVENTEEN.Ā QUARTZĀ UNIT was madeĀ to debutĀ toĀ appeaseĀ theĀ fansĀ withĀ theĀ repetitiveĀ discussionĀ ofĀ MISMANAGEMENTĀ compounded by their ongoing demand by the general public. everyĀ soĀ often when SEVENTEEN or THEIR COMPANY would be in HOT WATERS, QUARTZĀ coincidentallyĀ wouldĀ beĀ givenĀ anotherĀ comeback.Ā wellĀ thatĀ isĀ atleastĀ whatĀ user @/17211182026 on twitter has theorised relentlessly.
aĀ REPRESENTATIVEĀ fromĀ QUARTZ'S COMPANY, STARGIRLĀ announced,Ā " QUARTZĀ isĀ currentlyĀ goingĀ throughĀ aĀ re-brandĀ asĀ theyĀ enterĀ aĀ newĀ eraĀ atĀ JUPITERĀ RECORDS. "Ā thisĀ wasĀ followedĀ upĀ with JUPITERĀ RECORDSĀ releasingĀ newĀ officialĀ companyĀ profilesĀ forĀ theĀ group,Ā withĀ Y2K-stylisedĀ picturesĀ heavilyĀ inspiredĀ byĀ theĀ trend'sĀ unexpectedĀ return.Ā QUARTZĀ wereĀ previouslyĀ knownĀ forĀ theirĀ REFRESHINGĀ BLENDĀ ofĀ GENRESĀ andĀ CONCEPTĀ butĀ thisĀ newĀ moveĀ signifiesĀ anĀ everĀ fresherĀ startĀ forĀ theĀ girls as they chose to sign with JUPITER RECORD'S subsidiary, STARGIRL once again.Ā JUPITERĀ RECORDSĀ areĀ yetĀ toĀ commentĀ onĀ whetherĀ theĀ membersĀ willĀ beĀ adoptingĀ theĀ QUARTZĀ name. however,Ā KNETSĀ sleuthsĀ noticedĀ theĀ companyĀ appliedĀ forĀ severalĀ trademarks,Ā suggestingĀ thisĀ moveĀ hasĀ beenĀ onĀ JUPITER'SĀ mindĀ allĀ yearĀ long.
butĀ thatĀ wasn'tĀ theĀ onlyĀ surprisingĀ thingĀ thisĀ morning.Ā OLIVEĀ repostedĀ aĀ veryĀ iconicĀ memeĀ toĀ herĀ INSTAGRAMĀ storyĀ withĀ theĀ caption,Ā 'MondayĀ Mood'.Ā thisĀ imageĀ ofĀ NICOLEĀ KIDMANĀ afterĀ finalisingĀ herĀ divorceĀ hasĀ doneĀ itsĀ rounds,Ā andĀ NETIZENSĀ areĀ lappingĀ itĀ up,Ā butĀ itĀ appearsĀ CARATSĀ areĀ speculatingĀ theĀ reasoningĀ behindĀ thisĀ post.Ā thisĀ comesĀ afterĀ aĀ parentsĀ ofĀ oneĀ ofĀ theĀ membersĀ revealed,Ā "ThereĀ hasĀ beenĀ tensionĀ goingĀ onĀ betweenĀ companiesĀ forĀ quiteĀ aĀ whileĀ andĀ IĀ thinkĀ inĀ theĀ endĀ itĀ reallyĀ impactedĀ theĀ relationshipsĀ theĀ girlsĀ builtĀ withĀ theĀ otherĀ members.Ā JustĀ fromĀ talkingĀ toĀ myĀ daughterĀ this pastĀ week,Ā IĀ knowĀ sheĀ willĀ beĀ muchĀ happierĀ awayĀ fromĀ thatĀ awfulĀ company.Ā GoodĀ riddance!". we are looking forward to what OLIVE, AIQING, EMI and RAON reveal in their very first documentary as a group, "DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER!".

I LUV IT
Hi babies and dear Anons šš¼, me again š. I posted a new Q&A yesterday, and @camrensrealbish (btw hi, bud šš¼š) asked me in the comments if I could create a post just for I LUV IT's two analyses.
@camrensrealbish: āHi Faby, I love the interpretation of I LUV IT. I luv it, I luv it, I luv it šš
. I think it explains so well that this era is not surface-level at all. That thought through lyricism and symbolism is definitely still here. And how weāre so eager to dismiss hyperpop as stupid and without substance, be it for our convictions about femininity or sexuality, or even caution because of how other people use womenās sexuality. But when done purposefully it just shows how showing someoneās sexuality in this way *can* be empowering and authentic. And I think this is the case here. Can you please post your song commentary in a separate post, please? I would like to share it properly šā.
I originally wanted to post the two analyses as I did here now, but I couldn't because Tumblr has limited the possibility of posting more than 30 pics and I don't know why the fuck š¤. So thank you, dear š¤. You gave me the excuse to be able to do it š.
Enjoy š.
Hiii to you too, dear Anon šš¼š. I hope you're good too and about your ask, sure š.
So. I LUV IT ft. Playboi Carti released on March 27, 2024, is the first single for her fourth LP: C, XOXO. It's a hyperpop/experimental pop song and it samples Lemonade by Gucci Mane and interpolates Cockiness (Love It) by my queen RiRi (Rihanna). The studio recording with Carti was completed on Dec 17, 2023: (Carti's instastory)
Let me tell you something, this song was meant to shock. She pulled a Yes, and? and it worked š. For those of you who don't know what I'm referring to by that, I meant that Yes, and? was Ariana Grande's single for her album Eternal Sunshine and it's a diva house/dance-pop song, which was a different and unexpected genre especially then comparing it to the rest of the songs in the album when it was later released. It's a great song, but if it weren't for the concept that connects to two other songs, it would have nothing to do with the rest of the album musically and sonically speaking. It was a calculated idea to make it different from the rest. It's very smart and it's a good strategy for both a comeback and an album. I feel like I LUV IT is exactly the same thing. An impactful comeback was needed and this, together with the platinum blonde and the new era in general, served the purpose. The song was meant to be talked about for better or for worse. And guess what? Mission accomplished š.
This song is not for everyone. There are those who loved it right away, those who hated it and still do, and there are those who hated it and then slowly loved it. In reality, most people hated it and then loved it š¤£. I personally didn't hate it but I didn't love it right from the start either, not gonna lie. I just liked it š¤·š»āāļø. But after the third listen? Bouncing ass, tongue out, aaaand I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it š¤£!! This song is definitely a grower! The more you listen to it, the more you become addicted to it š.
But anyway. Unlike the video, the lyrics talk about sex. So let's get started. Oh and, of course, I won't include Carti's mumbled Atlanta rap or as his fans say, the Cartinese, simply because he wrote his part.
***Btw, I can no longer listen to Cartiās āOh, you on the road now? - Oh, you grown now? - Oh, you too grown nowā without bursting out laughing š¤¦š»āāļøš¤£. I can't help but hear Nas' imitation of Carti's voice in the HE KNOWS music videoš¤£š¤£š¤£. For me, those three sentences have now become just one repeated X3: āOh, you on the floor nowā š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£***
Oh oh oh, last thing before starting. If you're a prude, LEAVE NOW. Skip the whole lyric analysis and go straight to the music video analysis. The song is about sex like I just said and I therefore won't hold back from explaining certain things, okay? I warned you šš»āāļø. I don't wanna see complaints in the comments as happened years ago. Thank you.
Song
Verse 1:
āSupersonic, in your orbitā
So, supersonic. One word from which two derive: super and sonic. Super: above the rest, better than the rest. Sonic: derived from the Latin āsonusā which means sound. Super-sound. Basically a loud noise, a sound/sonic boom that (the actual meaning of supersonic:) breaks the acoustic barrier by traveling at a speed faster than the one of sound. A flight can be supersonic. As well as a missile and even a gun bullet.
An orbit is an ever-changing path one object in space takes around another. An unscientific example? A dog with its favorite toy often orbits their owner insistently because they want to play with them. Speaking from personal experience here š¤£.
***Oh and, lil fun fact. In prostitution specifically, orbit was, and perhaps still is, a code word for oral sex***
Ultimately, āSupersonic, in your orbitā means that Mila is this supersonic boom, this let's even say supersonic shock that orbits around her prey. As I've said many other times in my analysis, Mila likes to use wordplay in her songs and this is basically her artistic way of explaining sexual provocation. She's provoking her target.
āAnd Iām bad, diabolicā
It's giving intense energy and mischief out of the ordinary š. She knows she's good at it (provocation). She has a goal (to sleep with her) and succeeds because we have the aftermath of her intent in the next sentence.
āBottle rocket, on the carpetā
Her favorite lyrics because many people didn't grasp the meaning š¤£. Definition of bottle rocket: a firework typically consisting of a cylindrical case that is partly filled with combustible material and fastened to a guiding stick which may be placed in a bottle to control the direction of the rocket's launch.
In this case, in sex, bottle rocket is the representation of cuming hard in an explosive way.
Rockets have a phallic shape, so the first thing that's assumed here is that it's the sperm that's on the carpet, also because the song acts as straight š, but where's the deception? Even girls can give someone a bottle rocket. How? By being an explosion and not a normal female cum orgasm, with female ejaculation also known as squirting.
Ergo, she's talking about herself. This song is not about sex with a guy and I can even prove that with the next sentence.
āThrew it back and he caught itā
Round two, doggy-style position. Movements: āThrew it backā her ass āand she caught itā with the hands by placing it directly back on the face aka mouth-tongue (clue about the lil fun fact I mentioned earlier) or by directing the entrance of the cave of wonders on the dildo (since Camren loves toys so much šš¤£š¤). But, given the āheā because, again, the song acts as straight š, the meaning should make you think of the guiding on the dick. But no. As I said before, I can prove it.
When guys cum, it literally takes them a while before they can go again. Some need 10/15 minutes, others hours or directly the next day because they literally physically can't. It's rare anyway that they manage to go beyond the second round (unless they're in the midst of adolescence and are like 14/15 years old š¤£), and those who miraculously can make it, also last very little and their cum is also very little. And mind you, I'm not saying these things to belittle men. I'm not making anything up. It's the pure truth. Not only have I experienced it myself (cause yes, hi šš¼, I've been with my gf for 3 years but I'm bisexual and I've had relationships before her), but these are facts that you can even look up if you don't believe me.
It's obviously not the same for all guys and they're all different, but us girls literally need 5 seconds or nothing at all to recover, and we don't have limits like they do. Unlike males, we females can have multiple orgasms. Sexual arousal and orgasm are possible again right away. So no. It's impossible she was talking about a guy.
If she was really talking about a guy, it's impossible that immediately after his Bottle rocket, on the carpet (yet another proof that Mila was talking about her cuming, her squirting) he didn't need some enough available time for round two (Threw it back and he caught it). Letās move on šŖš¼.
āI go soprano, baby, go down lowā
Soprano in music is the highest note, so in this case, going soprano means she's screaming with pleasure. And in her euphoric state, she guides her partner back down there into her buried treasure.
āAnd when he leads, I gotta followā
The movements. Like in dance. In partner dancing, there are those who lead and those who follow. They're designed roles to facilitate the movements. The one who leads manages the body of the one who follows and decides the dance steps and direction of travel from time to time.
The thing that makes me laugh about this part is the āwhen he leadsā. āWhenā š¤£š¤£š¤£. Because she's the top and she's the one who leads most of the time because Laur's the bottom (even though they're both also switch) so when Lo leads, when, sometimes, occasionally, I gotta follow š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£. Oh Mila š¤¦š»āāļøšš¤£.
āIām blackinā out, Iām on a spiralā
She feels out of control (spiral) because the ending is so beautiful that it almost makes her lose consciousness (blackinā out).
āI need you now and tomorrowā
And forever.
Iād also like to add a deeper meaning of sex to Iām blackinā out, Iām on a spiral ā I need you now and tomorrow. Although she said the song is about sex, she also said:
āPart of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. Itās unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I LUV IT.ā ā āNow I feel kind of lonely and small and weird, but at the same time, Iām an adult and I feel so strong in other areas of my life, but not this one. Thereās just the wrestling of those feelings without it being kind of neat or in a box. You canāt really say that itās a sad song, you canāt really pin it down. Itās just kind of me wrestling with these feelings and me kind of being really present on a particular feeling and exploring it. I feel like a lot of songs on the album are thatā.
So going deeper, āIām blackinā out, Iām on a spiralā indicate her anxiety. Being on a spiral or simply spiraling, is an emotional state that rapidly worsens in a way that becomes increasingly difficult to control and often leads to short-term periods of anxiety or depression. Aka her OCD gets triggered. Which by the way, I remind you that for her leads to obsessions and repetitive thoughts. And in a certain way, we can also see it in the repetition of the same phrase in the chorus.
So here she's saying: 1) Iām blackinā out, aka I'm going crazy, I'm freaking out (connection/thing that reminds me a lot of āAm I out of my head? Am I out of my mind?ā Bad Things [analysis here (eleventh ask)]) 2) Iām on a spiral, aka I'm anxious, distressed, worried, fearful. Why? Because I don't wanna lose you aka 3): I need you now and tomorrow. This alludes to the desire for connection and intimacy that goes beyond sex.
Both meanings (sexual and deeper) however indicate the intensity of her uncontrollable and erratic emotions towards as she said āthat personā Lauren. But she doesn't care. āItās unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, Iā¦?ā Sheā¦? She what? Sing it all togetherš¤šµš¶šš¼šš¼šš¼:
Chorus:
āI luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, ooh
I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it
I luv it, I luv it, I luv itā
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7ā¦...
27.Ā Ā 27ā¦ā¦
27 times, huh? š What a wonderful coincidence! š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ of all the numbers, precisely the 27. Would you look at that š¤£š¤£.
No seriously tho. The words have to fit and respect the tempo of the song, but coincidence or not it's still funny for me š¤.
Post-Chorus 1:
āLemons on the chain with the V-cuts (X2)
Lemons in their face, watch āem freeze up (x2)ā
This part was sampled from the song Lemonade by Gucci Mane. Lemons are basically yellow diamonds (known as Canary Diamonds) cut/engraved in the shape of the letter V (an expensive method of cutting diamonds).
The meaning behind that would be that people would āfreeze upā in shock at seeing this display of wealth and success, these lemons/diamonds, āin their faceās. They're oh so surprised and intimidated that they even freeze up for this luxury lifestyle thrown in their faces.
Ummā¦ā¦ā¦. š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ Do we really care? Of that? Okay š¤£. About something she didn't even write? Something that she literally took copied and pasted into the song? Pfft, okay. Can we move on? Thank you š¤£.
Verse 2:
āSuper twisted, sick addictedā
Twisted: someone who's mentally or emotionally unhealthy or disturbed: sick. --> Sick addicted: someone who's unable to stop doing something as a habit. Ergo, she's saying that she likes/enjoys it a lot and wants to spend as much time as possible doing what they're doing: sex.
Nonsexual meaning: She's using strong words to describe not only herself but also what their relationship is like. They may be twisted, and addicted, and toxic, and all the other things we've seen in their songs, but no matter what, she/they LUV IT, cause they luuuv each other.
āKiss me hard, someday youāll miss thisā
A dig for all those times they break up or take breaks.
āMeteor shower, in your powerā
What's a meteor shower?
The meteor shower is nothing other than what we commonly call shooting stars. These are obviously not stars, but meteors. Meteors are the aftermath of asteroids and comets that ORBITATED the SUN.
Asteroids (celestial bodies composed of rocky bodies) and comets (celestial bodies composed of frozen gases) become meteoroids when they fragment. In turn, meteoroids ignite and disintegrate when they enter our solar system, becoming meteors, ergo shooting stars. Those that don't disintegrate and manage to touch the earth's ground instead become meteorites.
How does a meteor shower happen?
The meteor shower happens when the earth, in its ORBIT around the SUN, crosses an area in which fragments of rock and dust (meteoroids) lost from a comet or an asteroid (celestial bodies made of rock, dust, and ice coming from the outermost areas of the solar system) are concentrated. When an asteroid and a comet heat up as they pass close to the sun, they reach such temperatures that they fragment even more (meteoroids) and when these very tiny fragments enter our atmosphere, they ignite and burn due to friction by generally developing tails, luminous trails (shooting stars) until they vaporize or leave debris (meteorites) behind.
Lil fun fact: some meteorites found on earth come from the MOON š¤š¤£. Most come from destroyed comets and asteroids, but some come from Mars or the moon.
So, after this compelling little science lesson, I can explain what Mila means by āMeteor shower, in your powerā.
It's very simple actually. A meteor shower is a celestial event. She's comparing their sex to this astronomical phenomenon, the āMeteor showerā. The āin your powerā is due to the fact that Loās the one whoās leading as we saw in āAnd when he leads, I gotta followā in the first verse.
āSeeinā stars, oh my Godā
The retina sends light signals to the brain by making sparks, stars, or flashes of light appear in the visual field. When does this happen? It usually has to do with the head. You've made a movement too fast, like standing up suddenly, or you've been hit on the head, or you're about to lose consciousness, etc. These are all negative aspects, but we're talking about something positive here. Sex.
This amazing sex (Meteor shower), this second round (Threw it back and she caught it), brings her to another orgasm (maybe even another Bottle rocket š¤·š»āāļøš) during which she feels so bewildered, so dizzy, and she experiences this very surreal feeling that overwhelmed her by even Seeinā stars during it. Seeinā stars: to climax, to achieve orgasm.
This can very well be connected with āāIām blackinā out, Iām on a spiralā She feels out of control (spiral) because the ending is so beautiful that it almost makes her lose consciousness (blackinā out)ā that I explained earlier.
Oh and, the āoh my Godā was her, um š¤£, comment, to express that ending if it wasn't already obvious enough š¤£.
Bridge:
āSlow down, babyā
All of Playboi Carti's āUh, uh, uh, uhā before Mila's āSlow down, babyā, at least to me, indicate the thrust of the act. Again, he āsingsā them to prove the song is straight š, but we know the truth. Anyway. The āSlow down, babyā means exactly that. Either Mila's settling down from the end of round two and needs a tiny bit more time to go as fast as they were going before, or she simply wants this third round to go at a slower pace than the previous one, or better yet, Slow down, baby like in āstop, it's my turn nowā (to lead).
Another proof that this doesn't talk about sex with a guy. As I said before, it's rare for guys to get beyond 2 rounds, so let alone a third one š¤£. Sorry, not sorry, but it's literally the truth š¤£.
And that's it. I luv the fact that Camila's lyrics in this song talk about sex but she uses words that still perfectly capture the magnetic attraction between the two of them. I luv how she's quite unapologetic about it. And I LUUUV how she also used these cosmic references in general, but above all, how they anyway hide in a certain way the two important celestial bodies in our sky and solar system: their representation, aka the moon and the sun.
Now let's move on to the music video where everything that could go wrong happens šš¼š¤£. What is she trying to convey here? Let's find out.
Music video
Opening scene. A Robin Hood wannabe who takes coins from his pocket.
Three empty stationary police cars in a driveway while an aspiring lumberjack cop is, for what initially appears to be, cutting down a tree to prepare for winter.
KhaleesiMila enters the scene 5 seconds before she starts singing. She looks like she just came back home from the night before given her outfit and her slightly messy hair. But not her makeup. The makeup is perfect of course because it's still a music video š.
She enters the kitchen with a chocolate cake in one hand while with the other she nonchalantly tosses her heels in a spot where it's very usual for us girls to leave them š¤£: at the doorway or in the bedroom on the kitchen counter.
She starts singing and eating a piece of chocolate cake at the same time.
At the same moment as the first bite of the cake, we have a really well-done perfect transition of her spitting her mouthguard out in a somewhat snobbish but challenging and provocative way because she's ready to fight against a professional female wrestler.
Soon after we have a 3-second split shot of her chewing the cake in the kitchen again and her and Carti in the gas station, before cutting to a long one where we have the reappearance of the archer from the opening scene.
From this moment on, all the small shots, the little introductions that we initially had, are explained a little bit more extensively with longer scenes and shots. Still messy š¤£, but longer.
Hospital part 1
Now that we see the surroundings, we notice how Legolas wannabe is in the corridor of a hospital and that the coins he took from his pocket in the opening scene, he needed them to get something like a chocolate bar from the vending machine. After taking it, he walks back to a white-dressed Mila who's sitting with an arrow in her heart.
A flash passed before my eyes and for a moment I was back in 2019. Why? Liar. The cover art picture of the song portrays her as an angel with wings.
Camila explained that Cupid strikes her with his bow to make her fall from heaven and unmask her, by making her not so angelic anymore because she's actually a liar who's hiding something, that is a secret [hmm, I wonder which one ššš¤«š¤š¤£]. This whole story created for the song inspired the visual for the entire album Romance (whole album inspired by the surrealism of a museum of love stories in heaven).
So I asked myself, what is this? A connection to Romance but direct to Liar? No. I'd say more that she paid homage to it since even though the lyrics are about sex, the ideology of the video is about their toxic relationship and how she knows it's toxic but she LUVs IT anyway.
Anyhow, I guess that at the arrow in the heart scene, you all thought that the Green Arrow wannabe was Cupid. Same thing here, mostly because of the connection with Liar. I initially thought: āOooh, it's Cupid! Cupid shot her with his arrow, ergo she's in love. But she's lovesick, and because of this the hospital: love - sickā. Then I saw the whole scene (plus the ending which I'll explain, well, at the end š¤£) and I realized: āNope. Not Cupid. Not Cupid at all. Hi, Lauren šš¼ā.
***Let's be clear. This is a music video. A creative and imaginative way of portraying objects, people, and scenarios in general. Yes, it's Camila's POV, but Lauren isn't that bitchy and dickish in real life. Okay? Every artist does it. It's art. Literally, as the word implies.***
So, back to the scene. Rewind. Lauren Hawkeye wannabe takes the candy bar from the vending machine and goes back to Mila. *This is the point where I got to before.* He doesn't even look at her. He just sits. Contrary to her who follows him with her gaze as he sits down and she also turns her head to look at him one more time before looking straight ahead.
That chocolate bar or whatever the fuck it is, it's not even for her. He took it for himself without even having the thought of taking it for her or taking something for her as well. I mean he's like, he's there for her. He went with her and he accompanied her also because he hit her with an arrow. Like yeah, we know that. We can see that. But even though he's there for her, he at the same time doesn't acknowledge or address her at all. He's just there. Present and not. Waiting for her turn.
While she, even smiles with her mouth closed as he's returning to her, but it's a smile I'd say forced. A kind of smile that masks how uncomfortable she feels. It's a wan smile that shows no energy or enthusiasm. It's a stoical āgrin-and-bear-it because you're used to it after allā kind of expression. That smile alone makes you understand how ānormalā this situation is for her. She's so used to it that it's a standard routine for her. It doesn't come as a surprise.
In a situation like this one, in a hospital, with an arrow in the chest/heart, anger or pain or both reactions are what you expect to be shown by her. But no. She's just there. Waiting for her turn.
Meaning behind this? The arrow in the heart represents a metaphorical way to express the idea that love can be both powerful and overwhelming, capable of causing joy and pain in equal measure. In this case however, the arrow in the heart doesn't represent a tender sweet and romantic symbol of Cupid and Valentine's Day. It represents a heart-piercing emotional pain. In this case, that arrow is nothing more than a heart-stopping arrow through the heart.
Fight & Dogs
In the next scene we have the professional female wrestler again. Like when she spat her mouthguard out in the opening brief shot, Mila continues to have this defiant attitude *sheās so hot there btw š¤¤š„µ*.
She shows herself as very self-confident with this superior aura and this cockiness that gives off an āI can kick your assā vibe. All of this flies out the window the moment the wrestler makes her move against her and Mila shits in her pants and starts running away š¤£.
At the same time that she starts running, we have another perfect transition of a running dog.
Then we have another very brief shot of her continuing to eat the cake in the kitchen, before alternating the fight with the wrestler and not just one dog running randomly, but her being chased by no less than three dogs š¤£.
These two scenes are connected on the part of running for your life. Literally as far as the dogs are concerned š¤£. And speaking of the dogs, the scene represents the danger and risks of being in love with someone. It represents all the feelings of chaos that go along with it. It represents feeling afraid and helpless with a constant internal battle of anxiety and fear. Being chased by dogs is stressful, scary, and unpleasant, BUT, it's even adrenaline-pumping and the depiction of it, is basically like an excited nightmare that represents not knowing where things are leading. Running into the unknown. She's scared but she does it anyway because the journey is electrifying.
Going back and talking about the scene with the wrestler, the running scared to avoid the actual physical fight is the representation of avoiding the confrontation. And that's something we know Mila does thanks to both her and Lauren. We also know this because in 2016 she herself said that she avoids conflicts with people. It's a vice/bad habit that she's always had.
BUT, no matter how much she tries to run away and avoid this confrontation, it always happens. Sooner or later, she eventually always finds herself having to face the problem unwillingly or not. The representation of this in the video is when she's captured. We actually see this section almost at the end of the video after Cartiās āšµtursin-eh-oh-and-halloh-eh-halloh-eh-halloh-I'm out o-controoolšµā š¤£š¤£š¤£. We see the wrestler chasing and catching Mila, which leads to the headlock wrestling move.
Now let's talk about this section with the headlock that we see both at the end and currently in the first chorus of the part of the video where we are. Specifically this one here. We see several headlocks in sequence, but the one I want to focus on is the second one, where the wrestler is enacting the chokehold with only one arm.
Like, ummā¦ š¤ The way you caress her arm and look at her, and the way you sing āI luv itā with your tongue sticking out in that seductive way š„.
I mean... Mila, honeyā¦š I see you! š¤£
No wonder in the BTS of the video she said: āI've been the most excited for this scene all dayā. Hmm š¤, I wonder why is that š¤£š¤£š¤£. Just as I'm not surprised by the other clue she gave in the interview with Bru On The Radio when talking about the scene: āIt's like a little homoerotic. It's cool! But um- * she bursts out laughing by looking to the side* -yeahā.
Homoerotic: 1) (especially of art, literature, drama, or the like) using symbolism, allusions, situations, etc., that invoke sexual attraction or activity between people of the same gender. Example: There's definitely some homoerotic subtext in that book. 2) having sexual attraction to people of one's own sex or gender, especially when that attraction is repressed. Example: To say a man has a āstreak of lavenderā means that he has homoerotic desires. 3) relating or involving sexual activity between people of the same sex. Specifically: marked by, revealing, or portraying sexual desire between people of the same sex.
I have nothing else to add, Your Honor. I have nothing else to add šš¤£.
No but seriously now. She doesn't act that way during the other headlocks. In those, she tries to fight back and somehow defend herself by trying to free herself. We see her react in a rather normal way to that type of situation. But in that particular hold? Nope š¤£. We can see how much she likes it. How attracted and aroused she is. The reactions she has during the other headlocks represent her external side, what really happens and what she lets see. While in that particular one, we see the toxicity of what happens in her inner part. The āI luv itā to the choking which on a larger scale, represents her toxicity in loving the pain. Even though they're fighting and she hates the confrontation and is in pain, she LUVs IT anyway because she luvs HER.
***Mind you that this is only an additional representation and seen in a more generic way. I don't see it as fitting to the theme of the music video as much as the one I've already explained to you now.*** A broader meaning could also be the representation of how the love for Lauren is so strong that she can't fight it. We've seen this other times in the lyrics of songs like This Love [analysis here (the penultimate ask)] and SeƱorita [analysis here (the last ask)] where Mila was having an inner struggle because, on the one hand, she wanted to protect her feelings, and on the other, she couldn't resist her. Ergo, the scene where she tries to fight this love, the professional wrestler, but she loses and thus is ultimately defeated.
House
Next scene we have her continuing to eat the chocolate cake plus this guy who comes in and rides around her house on his motorcycle and she does nothing.
Let's dwell for a moment on her eating.
Where have we seen something like this before (besides the reality of everyday life)? In every damn movie and TV show since forever š¤£. Someone is sad for some X reason like they had a fight with someone, or they're going through a breakup, and what do they do? They eat either something chocolate or ice cream. 90% of the time it's something chocolate related. Why? Because when consumed, it releases endorphins in the brain that produce a mild feeling of euphoria by mimicking the feeling of being in love. This is why chocolate is called the love drug. It gives comfort and joy and when we're down, we emotionally crave chocolate because we're unsatisfied with something.
Her eating chocolate cake in this case is an indication of unsatisfied desires and emotional needs.
Now let's go back to the guy with the motorcycle. He's destroying everything in his path and she's simply there, munching on her cake unbothered.
He's causing a mess but she doesn't even try to stop him. She doesn't get angry, she doesn't scream, nothing. And why? Because as I said before by talking about that type of smile in the hospital, this situation is ānormalā for her. She doesn't react simply because she's used to it. The chaos of their relationship doesn't surprise her also because, I mean, it's been years and years.
The house depicts her head and what happens in it. Him destroying the house is a representation of how she sees his bringing chaos into her life and their relationship. On a deeper level, her not reacting to the destruction of the house represents the fact that she's so in love that she ignores bad and toxic behaviors. The whole scene represents the toxicity and destruction that a relationship can bring into your life but you keep trying because you LUV IT. Lauren brings love, happiness, passion, euphoria, but she also brings chaos which also encompasses mess, confusion, disarray, whether all good or bad. We also saw this type of example in the lyrics of Consequences [analysis here (penultimate ask)].
Successively we have a mix of scenes, among which are the cop one of the opening scene, the car one, and the bathroom one.
Palm tree
We can finally see that this aspiring lumberjack cop is chopping this palm tree because Camila is on top of it.
Now, I have two interpretations for this. The palm tree represents Lauren/their toxic love in both interpretations.
NĀ° 1, she's stuck on the tree. Being stuck represents her way of saying that there's no way out of their toxic relationship even though someone (represented by the cop) or more than someone (since there are 3 police cars even though we only see one cop) tries to get her out of this situation.
NĀ° 2, the one I see as the most truthful, the most right one. She's not stuck on the tree. Mila is Walzing it š¤£š¤£š¤£ (for those who don't know, Dinah used to call Mila āWalzā and here you can find the reason why the nickname was born). Her koalaing the tree also represents her co-dependence. She's clinging to it and doesn't want to let go.
She's on the very high point of the tree; visual meaning: danger. If she were to fall, she would die or be seriously injured. But she doesn't care. She's ready to risk her life. Deeper for the representation: her love is so strong, that she's ready to risk it (āI'll risk it allā, as we've already seen in Used to This [part of the interpretation that you can find in the analysis of Only Told the Moon here]). She's ready to risk everything/risk it all even if she were to lose her heart and if it were to affect even her mental and physical health as we've already seen in the lyrics of Consequences.
Even in this case, the cop represents someone or more than someone in her life who tries to get her out of this situation. They use extreme ways to do this, representative of getting her down: cutting down the tree. Why? Why doesn't this cop who clearly knows that this person is experiencing some kind of problem call the fire truck to bring a ladder to save her since that's what's normally done in these situations? Or he doesn't go directly and find one himself? Why doesn't he talk to her and try to reason with her to get her down?
Because it's not the first time this has happened. The cop (her family, her friends) is so used to and tired of seeing their on-again, off-again/cycle/loop/circle, that he decides to help her in a more brutal way in this case. Representation: chopping down the tree. It doesn't matter tho. It doesn't matter that other people try to help her in hard ways. She doesn't wanna lose her, and therefore she depicts how even though she knows it's a toxic relationship, she's clinging (codependent) to it and continues to love her because she doesn't want to depart/separate herself no matter what. Reason why we even see her singing āI luv itā while sheās glued to the tree.
Car
Speaking of falling (and how these two scenes are connected). Instead of that tree, here we see her having fallen over a car. Part of the car is destroyed, as is she. It's a representation of being in love and how it can sometimes destroy you. But again, we even see her singing āI luv itā because she doesn't care.
She doesn't care about falling and being crushed by/for her. They've taken a lot of risks over the years. They've suffered, they've hurt each other, and they've fallen down and gotten up every single time. And those wounds, in the video are represented as real wounds with cuts, bruises, gashes, and all that jazz.
She doesn't even care when we, the public and the fans, see her destroyed like that. We've seen it many times, especially after years and years spent growing up in the public eye. By this, I'm obviously referring to the woman who's immortalizing the scene with her phone.
Although that, it's also a representation of what would actually happen in today's world: instead of helping or calling an ambulance, the woman is filming or taking pics.
Bathroom & Bedroom
Contrary to the connection that the tree and the car scenes have, this one is connected to the ones of the dogs and the professional female wrestler.
We first see her in the bathroom. She looks in the mirror and even lifts her shirt up to look at her belly. Let's say normal things that we all do, and so far, nothing strange. Then we also see her perplexed and undecided tho (when she sighs with her finger in her mouth). And we see her rehearsing. We see her change her expression to a determined one and make the gun gesture with the fingers of her hand.
***Sorry but I have to tell you guys š¤£š¤£š¤£. I found it extremely funny how she made the gun gesture with her fingers precisely at āsomeday youāll miss thisā. THIS and bam: fingers out ššš¤£.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry š¤£š¤£ one day she'll miss, what, Mila? Your gay fingers?š¤£š¤£š¤£ Oooooookay šš¤£***
Back to normal. All that represents her mentally preparing herself, and for what? For what we then see in the bedroom. Before heading there, we can see her expression of determination but more importantly, we can see her pissed-off expression.
She walks into the bedroom with this imaginary automatic machine gun that she uses to shoot and destroy the bed. As she does that, the footage also shows us the rest of the room, and what do I spy with my little eye š§? A frame hanging on the wall. And what's in that frame? Five boys with the word āsorryā written on their backs.
Wait a second, wait a secondā¦ FIVE???? š² Five as a reference to Fifth Harmony? š± Five as in 5H because it's a hidden clue to confirm that she's talking about Lauren? š¤Æ WHAAAAAT??? šµ
Yes, guys, yes. For those who haven't noticed, the answer is yes. Camila doesn't do things shittily. There's always meaning in the things she does, whether it's hidden or not. And if anyone tries to tell you otherwise or something different about that clue, don't be fooled. Why 5? Explain the 5 otherwise? They could've used a thousand different things like, for example, an apology/sorry note left on the bedside table, or even just one guy with sorry on his back in that frame since all of this is supposed to be straight and about a guy š. But no. They used FIVE of them specifically.
Moving on.
The rehearsals she was doing in the bathroom that we later saw lead to the destruction of the bed with the imaginary automatic machine gun, were all due to Mila being pissed off about something Laur had done. Something we know thanks to the not-so-hidden apology message in the frame. Now I don't know about you š¤š¶but I'm feeling 22 š¶š¤ sorry but I had to š¤£ but I know that even though Camila is magical, she doesn't really have powers š¤£. So even though this is the representation of her being pissed at Lo, she didn't actually shoot the bed. It was all in her head. She was just imagining doing it. Yeah, she was angry, but we also know that she'd run away in reality to try to avoid conflicts as we saw in the scene with the dogs and in the scene with the wrestler (aka Laur herself), during which, however, we also saw that the wrestler captures her and that therefore Mila was then forced to face.
Hospital part 2
During the mix of these three scenes (Palm Tree - Car - Bathroom & Bedroom) just discussed, we have two small shots of Mila in the hospital. The first during āoh my Godā and the second during āI luv itā.
We see her looking in one direction before saying āoh my Godā. It's an exasperated āoh my Godā because no one's assisting her yet.
She sings āI luv itā by tapping her finger to her temple in rhythm but we can see how impatient she's starting to get for the wait. Yeah, she luvs it, she luvs it, she luvs it, she luvs it, she luvs it, she luvs it, she luvs it, but she's irritated and frustrated.
Gas station
Mila and her friends pull over into this gas station. A guy with long hair immediately approaches to serve them, but instead of refueling the car as we normally expected, he does it to them. He takes the pump and fills their glasses with gasoline, even though we know very well that it was actually nothing more than āsome disgusting water-down apple juiceā, according to Mila herself.
All this during āLemons on the chain with the V-cuts (X4) - Lemons in their face, watch āem freeze up (x4)ā Oh well, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade Camila Cabello drinks gasoline š¤£.
Sorry, sorry š¤£. Joking aside now.
Drinking alcohol produces euphoria. It's stimulating, exciting, and lowers inhibitions and control. It's intoxicating, and although this word usually indicates something positive, it can also represent something negative especially when associated with alcohol. Drinking alcohol is intoxicating in a good way, but if done too much, it's intoxicating in a harmful way. In this case, alcohol is the representation of another hyperbolic metaphor. It's yet another concept represented in an exaggerated way. Gasoline, fuel, or whatever the hell it was, is obviously toxic. Ingesting it is dangerous. It's yet another representation of their toxic relationship and tendencies and how she doesn't care going against all common sense because she LUVs IT.
There would also be another possible meaning behind this scene due to Playboi Carti's verse. He talks about drugs (Novocaine and Mary Jane), luxury cars (Lamborghini Aventador SVJ), and rebellious life in general.
Novocaine is a drug used as a local anesthetic normally by dentists. Mary Jane is the literal English translation of the name Marijuana. Spanish: Maria/Mari. English translation: Mary. Spanish: Juana. English translation: Jane. Ergo, Marijuana: Mary Jane. In the past when drug users talked about marijuana, they called it Mary Jane so as not to arouse police suspicion.
I explained all this because specifically his talk about drugs made me think of a different possible meaning behind this scene. You see in the US, many drug dealers operate out of gas stations. Mila and her friends are getting gas at the gas station. In slang, āgasā is a noun made popular by rappers to refer to weed/marijuana.
It might be that the scene has both meanings. Alcohol for her and drugs for him. Who knows š¤·š»āāļø. Maybe we would've seen it for real if Carti hadn't arrived late for the video shoot. But anyway.
Right after that, we have the dance scene. I have two interpretations for that even here. Both true.
The first one: Don't expect me to say sweet and predictable things like that she's dancing hypnotized because she's drunk on love š¤£. Nope. The blindfold is supposed to represent how blinded she is by love and shit, right? The typical phrase ālove is blindā that makes someone unable to see the flaws of the person they love. True, but at the same time in her case, bullshit tho. Buuuullshit! Because we saw throughout the video how she's aware of everything.
She chose to put the blindfold on and dance freely whether it's just for fun or distraction or to literally dance the pain away. She chose to put it on to ānot seeā the flaws, the toxicity, and all the negative things. She knows. She knows they're there. It's just her choice to ignore them because, once again, she doesn't care because she luvs it and her.
The second one: Based on the getting gas in the previous shot, whether it's just alcohol or whether it's also marijuana, that's why right after that scene we see Carti with his hoodie backwards (it's literally backwards, look closely) before he starts singing and Mila and the girls dancing together blindfolded with Xās over their eyes.
It represents the beginning of the effect. šµ: literally the dizziness of drunkenness and/or stonedness. In a deeper way, it represents love being a drug/addiction to live to the fullest (dancing).
Again whether it's just alcohol or weed, that's also the reason why at the end of the video they're both comfortable and relaxed in eating calmly as if they don't have a care in the world (despite the video being completely the opposite). Both alcohol and weed increase hunger and appetite, sometimes leading to strange and uncontrollable cravings. That represents half to almost the end of the effect.
Hospital part 3
She's still waiting. She's still waiting for someone to help her remove that fucking arrow from her chest. The whole reason she's been there waiting for probably hours. Nurses even walk past in front of her but still no one assists her. As before, she's still annoyed, but now she's also discouraged and sad. Not only that, but the male version of a Katniss Everdeen wannabe is also gone. Representation of a breakup or one of their breaks. Mila's alone, and suddenly, the wound begins to bleed.
In this case, the arrow through her heart symbolizes feeling emotionally hurt. Since loving someone is not always a walk in dreamland, but it also consists of twists and turns and can really fucking hurt you, here we see how her heart starts dripping blood. The bleeding can also represent how toxic relationships leave you in the end. Again, love is pain but she LUVs IT.
Thing more important, the wound begins to bleed because she's no longer with her. It didn't do it the entire time Laur was with her, but her heart started to bleed in pain only after she left. Representation of how her heart, although already wounded (arrow) by her/for her, cannot bear to be without her (bleeding). As I also explained in my This Loveās interpretation, the choice over the years has often been between having her and suffering, or not having her at all, and as we know, she always chose her.
The end
So, that was the music video. It gave me Miami and Florida. It gave me GTA and crack house feelings š¤£. It gave me wildness and adrenaline. It gave me roller coaster. It gave me college students traveling for the holidays/Spring Breakers movie. *For those who don't know what I'm talking about šš¼*
Especially here with this promo.
*Last minute edit: she just said Spring Breakers is one of the inspired aesthetics for the new era*
She in specific, gave me addicted to pain. She gave me impulsiveness. She gave me a fast-paced lifestyle, full of passion, desire, and disregard for consequences. She gave me vibe. She gave me boujee. She gave me dance. She gave me actress and humor as has also happened in other videos in the past (although less than those ones) such as for example Havana, Liar, My Oh My, Bam Bam, Donāt Go Yet, etc. (it's not the first time Camila's been in ridiculous situations in her videos). She gave me chaos begets chaos, and in order to maintain sanity, one must embrace the insanity. Or in her case, a palm tree š¤£š¤£š¤£.
I mean, all in all and in its complexity, I really enjoyed it. She said the theme of the video is chaos and danger, and we saw that. In the interview with Bru On The Radio, still talking about the video, she said: āThis complex feeling of loving the pain of something, or loving the messiness of something, or loving the chaos of something, really kind of like finding the beauty in that part of our humanityā. And we saw that too.
And as if it wasn't clear enough already, the video is an artistic representation of the toxic tendencies and behaviors of their toxic relationship in general throughout all these years. And yes, their as in both of them, not just her as in Lauren's. I told you guys in the beginning that it's Camila's POV and I explained that Lauren isn't that bitchy and dickish in real life, but we don't just see Laur's toxic tendencies and behaviors from Mila's POV in the video. We actually see Mila's a lot more. Let me explain.
We saw how Laur brings chaos into Mila's life and their relationship (house scene). She's hurt her (shot her with an arrow through the heart), she doesn't acknowledge her in the hospital, and she also leaves at the end. The leaving her there (breakup or break) in those conditions as well as not taking something for her too from the vending machine is a neglect; another trait of a toxic relationship. That's all. That's what we see as far as Lauren is concerned. Mila on the other handā¦
She's the one who's unbothered, especially in the beginning, in having an arrow in her heart, aka being hurt. She's the one who doesn't react when Lo destroys the house, aka when Laur has toxic behavior towards her. Still her the one who runs away from her problems so as not to face them and avoids conflicts (dogs and wrestler). In fact, if that's why, I wanna put in a good word for Laur in this case since she fights her by forcing her to confront her, aka talk about their problems. Still Mila the one who uses an imaginary automatic machine gun to shoot and destroy the bed symbolically in her head just because sheās angry with her. She's the one who crashes herself on top of a car and risks her life on other occasions with the dogs, the palm tree, and by drinking gasoline. I mean, see what I mean?
Who's the most toxic one we see here? And again, this is just a video. Not the reality. I feel like I always have to specify these things with you guys because one never knows you misinterpreted it š¤£. But anyway. I'm happy Mila did it. I'm happy that Mila represented even her toxicity since for many years due to her songs people only and always blamed Lauren. It's something I've been saying for years šš»āāļø. They both have their faults. There are two people in the couple and there are always two sides to a story. Not just one.
In any case, that's it, dear Anon. I hope you enjoyed both analysis š.

Aaand I'm done š
. Thank you all for your asks and I hope I've been helpful this time too š. As usual, I'm always available for those who have questions, so ask away š.
Remember to be nice. Always. Both with others and with yourselves. Be a good example. Be patient. Be safe and take care of yourselves. Don't let our ship sink. Keep shipping them, but please respectfully šš¼. Sending you virtual love and hugs š¤š¤š¤. I love you, babies. Always with love, F ā¤ļø.

1. Why do you like or dislike this character? - Percy and/or Keyleth?
I like both of them, so:
I like Percy for the surface reasons of intelligence and witty comebacks and the general Taliesin Jaffe Arrogant Guy Is Confidently Wrong About Many Things reasons, but more specifically I like how incredibly aware he is of social structures and doesn't dismiss them as stupid or fake or meaningless just because he is aware how much artifice is involved. I love how much he validates Vex in this, as someone who's been on the other side of that social divide most of her life and who knows she "shouldn't" care but does, deeply. It would be so easy for him to say "look, titles are stupid and fake, I should know, I have one," but instead he says "no, I see what this means to you, because yes it's all an accident of birth and yes it is kind of stupid and fake, but it's also the reason why you lived rough for your teens and early 20s, and you are not silly for wanting this security." I also think he's a great exploration of guilt and of someone who has a lot of complicated feelings from the gods but does value their counsel; we don't get a lot of characters with that sort of nuance. His scene with the Raven Queen remains a standout for me and for all he can be melodramatic and obnoxious at times, he is also like 25, traumatized, and should be at the club. I think the question he answers (why would someone invent the gun) is an interesting one, and I think the way that his story ends up with the obvious inevitable happening and yet he still finds happiness is unexpected and wonderful to see.
I like Keyleth for a lot of reasons people will probably be annoyed about, which is...she is annoying. Annoying women: may we know them, may we be them, and may we raise them. Anyway, I think her terror of doing the wrong thing at the cost of doing anything sets up a fantastic arc for someone who is expected to become a leader. I admire how she knows she's not the most eloquent and is scared of her responsibilities but does not back down from speaking up when she disagrees with the party. I like how she's perhaps the only example of lifespan angst that is actually portrayed as making a lot of sense, especially since she is also extremely young (probably shouldn't be at the club given the bar crawling results. She should be at ZooLights and have like, one cider.) I think in general her fears are incredibly real and make sense for the character and shape her, and that's not something you see portrayed with this amount of depth very often. I stuck with the VM-era portrayal of Percy but I will say I especially love how Keyleth is portrayed in Campaign 3, because Percy hasn't changed a ton in adulthood, merely mellowed out a little, but Keyleth very much has as she's grown in confidence, as she was only at the beginning of that during the Campaign. I think her relationship with Vax is incredibly good for both of them; her sense of belonging to a place and his ability to support. I do like that she gets angry, especially after so much time being insecure, but I feel much has been made of her anger and I don't have a ton to add there, and also while I like that she is angry and expresses it, there are other characters I gravitate to for that specifically. Also I have incredible respect for her having to take on a much bigger magical burden than expected; I have said this before but my longest-running character was in a campaign where the player playing sorcerer switched to ranger, and the cleric left, leaving me as the only full caster and primary healer (though thankfully we got a baller paladin shortly after). The fact that Keyleth had to, and could, be whatever the party needed mechanically was a godsend. I know VM died a lot but they would have died like 20 times more without her and Scanlan and especially without her.
#answered#essayofthoughts#cr tag#*bad percy fan voice* i don't actually care about his mechanics very much. i mean big damage is fun and i love an action surge#but i have never been able to give a damn about dps

The more I think about a possible Sua revival, the more into the idea I am.
Essentially, my brain keeps processing āSua revivalā as āSua combackā, and then that got me thinking about K-Pop group comebacks.
Alien Stage as a competition has some parallels to the K-Pop/idol industry, and ācomebackā is a commonly used phrase when talking about a K-Pop groupās return or new era of music.
Comebacks are generally a very exciting time period for fans.
What if Alien Stage flipped that idea on its head? Revival = Comeback.
New look. New sound. Same person.
An idolās comeback wouldnāt be joyous or a dream come true.
It would be a nightmare for those they left behind before.
#something something you canāt escape the talons of greed even in death something something#does this make any sense#iām either cooking something devious or burning down the kitchen#sua comeback pls mizi misses you :(#ivan comeback pls (iām delusional) :((#alien stage#alnst#alien stage sua#alnst sua#ivanttakethis talks too much

Hi hello My Dayblr ! If you didn't already know, DAY6 are having a long awaited comeback this month after a hiatus for their military enlistment. So ! I thought what a better time to have a little bit of a week-long revival of the fandom and generate a little bit of hype ! The album is set to release on Monday, March 18th, so what better time to generate some hype than the week before ! The week starts Monday, March 11th, and will go on for the entire week, the last day being Sunday, March 17th. If you're wanting to participate, the prompts are:
Monday, Day 1: Favorite Era or Album Tuesday, Day 2: Favorite Member Wednesday, Day 3: Favorite Music Video Thursday, Day 4: Favorite Moments Friday, Day 5: Favorite Photo shoot Saturday, Day 6: Favorite Duo (or Trio !) Sunday, Day 7: Free Day !
These aren't super strict, and if you wanna do one of the prompts a few days late, well that's okay too ! The only rules are that they're a visual piece of content (gifs, graphics, video even !), that it involves the current four members, and that you made it yourself! I'll be tracking #day6revival, so if you wanna take part, make sure to tag it ! Or if you aren't participating, make sure to check it throughout the week ! I can't wait to see everyone's amazing stuff, and I hope it all gets a little more hype for our super band to be back in action ! āØ See you guys next week ! šš¤

the end of an ERA š (aka indefinite hiatus)
hey queens!
to start off, i 100% never expected for zhounauts to actually get this far. seriously, 400+ followers and SO much support on my works, was never what i expected. tbh i made this account as joke one night, but the more time i spent on here, the more i enjoyed it and started to genuinely put my heart into it.
so, moving on to the main point of this announcement: it is time for me to bid farewell to this account.
the main reason for this is that i feel as if i've gotten tired(?) of this account in a way. i LOVE writing still, but i just don't enjoy writing on this account, and generally just don't feel really excited to come on here anymore. i'm really not sure how to explain this, like in a way i've grown out of this account (like its identity??) yeah i'm shitty at explaining but i hope you get it ish!
also, in general, my real life has been catching up to me, and i've been super busy. i fear i'm no longer a mere elementary school student learning about how many apples johnny has left. school is NOT a joke anymore (argh) and i want (and need) to put more focus into it.
i'd actually like to prostrate myself on the ground and apologize to everyone on any of my taglists, but truly i don't want to push out works i don't like, that feel like a chore to make, and in general are unenjoyable and just bad.
i've met so many great people on here (you know who you are) and i've genuinely had so much fun on here but it unfortunately is time to close this chapter.
thank you so much again for loving my works and supporting this account! truly never thought i'd actually get this far and get this much support for my writing. i definitely won't stop writing, and i still love kpop (got7 comeback announcement revived me) so hey maybe you'll see a post from me randomly once in a while or i might even start a new account for a rebrand if i'm feeling like it.
to any of my moots, if you want to stay in contact dm me for my instagram or discord! love y'all, but lwk haven't interacted with so many of you (i'm ass at it sorry queens)
anyways thanks again, this was zhounauts š¼
tagging some moots from off the top of my head: @flwrior @ilovejungwonandhaechan @cupidhoons @pshbites @hhmnya

BTS Discography highlight: iBigHit.com
All 7 members are reuniting this year - 2025! Yaaay!!! Bangtan Year!! 2+5 = 7 -> Year '25 brings all 7 back together again! The remaining 5 members will be discharged in June, so let the festivities begin!!!!
One of the activities that has been talked about for years is BTS wanting to revisit and celebrate the HYYH era (Hwa Yong Yeon Hwa, which is Korean for "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life"). This was the breakthrough series for BTS that really started their successful rise to the BTS we know today. This year is the 10th anniversary since the release of the albums produced within this theme.
Rumor has it that BTS plans to use the celebration of this series in part of their comeback project. It's a great idea to use this important yet familiar theme for them and the fans, as we are all reuniting after such a long time. This series was also a turning point and significant topic for them personally and professionally.
So if the rumors are true, it would be a great time to freshen up or learn about this album series, which contains some of BTS's most iconic, early hits. Today's lesson will be useful whether you have heard the songs but aren't sure how or where they fit into BTS's discography or you just need a reminder of some details or you have never heard of this series at all.
There are many official resources provided by BigHit that document BTS's work. Today I want to highlight iBigHit.com, and I'll be using the HYYH series as my timely example to navigate the site.
To get to the opening black screen seen below, you will need to click the 3 line icon in the upper left corner (green), and if needed, select the appropriate language on the upper right corner (orange). [Your browser might automatically take care of the language translation for you.]
All photos belong to BigHit Music from the iBigHit.com website.
Once there, click BTS. There are several categories, but for today's purpose, under discography, your selections are BTS as a group or each individual member.
When you select BTS, you will see every BigHit-released album or single, each represented by the official album or single cover picture - from most current to past.
Scroll down to the older albums to find the 2 albums that make up the HYYH series, HYYH part 1 and HYYH part 2, in English they're called The Most Beautiful Moment In Life part 1 and Part 2.
If you click on each album, you will generally see a description of the album, official pictures, and the track list. Each selection could also offer additional items. Be sure to click around the pages because more items can often be accessed by clicking on arrows or words that don't appear to be links. You also can find BTS's first special album - HYYH: Young Forever, which concludes the HYYH Series (below). This album combines the 2 HYYH albums and adds new iconic songs like Fire, Save Me, and Epilogue: Young Forever.
Again, clicking on this icon will show the new album details.
iBigHit.com does not overwhelm you with a huge amount of information at once, but it does provide an overview of BTS's timeline. It provides official photos and allows you to see the progression of their amazing career so far.
There is a great deal of official information on the Internet at allows you to research accurate information for yourself. In my past posts, we discussed the BTS - Topic playlist page that provides audio files for these albums: HYYH pt1, HYYH pt2, HYYH: Young Forever (only new songs).
We also discussed BangtanTV YouTube page [under Playlists tab] that provides video files for the entire HYYH series (music videos, photo shoots, dance practices, etc.).
I hope this is helpful to you. The guys are as anxious to get back to us as we are to get back with them. They want to reflect on their journey and celebrate this pivotal work that catapulted them into the stratosphere of success and achievement they've earned. And they want to celebrate with their fans.
BTS and the company have taken time to document the journey so that new fans can catch up and embrace BTS's efforts, and old fans can have resources to verify and share information with new fans along the way.
I'm so grateful that BTS and BigHit have shared so much information with us. I'm sure they'd appreciate seeing those sites being used and shared. It might cut down on some of the misinformation about them and their story, as well as provide a way for their lives and music to reach more people.
Enjoy!

I have always struggled to contain my anger toward the people who clowned her so hard for the beginning of that era and the "spelling is fun" stuff. I know she gained a lot of new fans during Rep, and Lover was a drastic 180 tone and vibes wise, but Lover was the first album she released under Universal. We now know that under Universal, she has almost complete control creatively, so Lover was almost a re-introduction, the first thing she wanted to say to her fans with her newfound freedom, and as far as she knew at that moment, everybody hated it.
People clowned her so hard she changed her lyrics, the one part of her music she cares about the most. It just breaks my heart to think about everything she was probably going through at that point. Her fans can't even handle a fun campy joyful song how are they going to handle anything more than that?
I'll always adore Lover because I feel like more than most of the rest of her work, it is exactly what she wanted us to hear and see of her at that moment when she could finally say and do what she wanted. Regardless of who the songs are or aren't about, it was her we were supposed to see, totally and completely, and I will always love it for that.
iām not so well versed in the chart community but at the time it felt to me like a lot of the hate stemmed from it being a sort of comeback single but not charting well, and blaming that on what other chart tracking fandoms were teasing them for, the so-called childlike aesthetics and lyrics. thereās also this thing where a lot of her fans think she picks bad songs to be singles (that there were better choices). i think, had she followed through by coming out, the song would have gotten a proper reconsideration by critics, and in doing so, the chart obsessed side of the fandom would have relaxed. of course this is all superficial and doesnt get at the key issue which is a lack of appreciation for and reception of taylorās art by a big portion of her own fanbase, people interacting with the idea of her rather than considering her as a person, etc, though i also remember reading thoughts from fans on tumblr who were not chart obsessed but rather saw ME! or the āhey kids!ā line as insulting to their tastes or intelligence, and i guess people are entitled to feel how they feel, but i think that some amount of that is connected to a lot of longtime swifties having been in the trenches fighting for her and her reputation and working to prove the quality or seriousness or craft of her work to other people for years, despite being made fun of for listening to her or being a fan of her.. to some of these people, ME! probably felt like it was unrecommendable or tough to defend criticism of their own personal tastes, and they felt like taylor did them dirty. iām not saying i agree with any of this or that it is a good thing. itās just my attempt at understanding of some of the critiques of it.
i think in general, and this goes for so many things, there is a cross-party division in the community that nobody really talks about, whether you are small g gaylor or swiftie, which is a level of cringe tolerance. on both sides of the community, there are people who have a very low tolerance for cringe, and people who have a very high tolerance. by cringe i mean, sensitivity to perception of the self by others. i would go so far to say that most gaylors and swifties could get along with some segment of one another, so along as their cringe levels are in alignment. both sides of the fandom have people who theorize heavily and people who hate the people who theorize because they find it cringe to do so. and itās a spectrum. but anyway, i think that in some ways ME! is another example of the tensions fans sometime have with their own public perception.
i love Lover so much both as a collection of work and as a greater project for reasons similar to what you said. i felt like she was really tapping in to a mode that was about enjoying herself, embracing insecurities but in a fun way. forms of art like collage, mix and match fashion, gaudy things, camp-adjacent things, unbridled by a desire for sonic cohesion, etc etc, makes lover a real standout for me in the same way rep felt. and in some ways i like that ME! went over so many peoplesā heads because thereās less of a dissonance i feel when listening to it as opposed to some of her more critically acclaimed music that is popular but equally meaningful. i think ill forever lament how popular midnights got simply because people wanted to hop on the bandwagon, if that makes sense. anyway. there are plenty of issues with being drawn specifically to perceived underrated material, too. all of her work deserves love.
time goes on and lover continues to be a very stable (well streamed and often bought) album with longevity (cruel summer turning into a mega hit), an maybe one day ME! will get its place again in the sun

Fandom predictions for next year: beautiful yuuya figure announced
i tag @korvakoira @thezoruagirl and whoever else wants to do this. im not very good at remembering tumblr usernames or id try to think of more people
#this is extremely yugioh centric#if i told the me from 3 years ago that yugioh would replace star trek as my fave interest she would laugh in my face
