I have this whole Goreconte AU in my head and I know i'll never do anything with it so have a post about it
The setting is modern-ish. The expedition is actually two camps, Terror and Erebus, watching over a Pale-like fog that is yet to be understood. They hear things, see things but it seems to be a impenetrable barrier
One day, a man comes out of the fog. He says his name is Graham Gore, that he is Camp Erebus' first lieutenant and he's asking to see Henry Le Vesconte. No one remembers ever meeting a Graham, but.... it tracks. Erebus does not have a first lieutenant and no one really questioned it before.
Graham is eventually allowed to see Henry in private and he reveals that they were together. Henry does not remember at all, but once again, it makes sense. He does have a bunch of things in his tent that are not his but he doesn't remember where he got them. Turns out they are Graham's.
He is allowed to stay in the camp even if people struggle to adapt seeing a "new" face around. Graham is also struggling, trying to grieve his relationship with Henry despite him being right there and never getting any closure. On the other hand, Henry is intrigued by this stranger who seems to know him so well. And he might even start to fall in love with him "again"....
