Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival of India. India is a very vast country; people of many religions live here. People of religion now have a festival of their own. Like Diwali, Dussehra, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Teej, Ganesh Chaturthi etc. Here I will tell you about Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada. This festival is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Ganesh. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi falls in the eighth or ninth month.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a famous festival of Hindus which is celebrated from different parts of India. It has great importance in Maharashtra and Karnataka or say that it is celebrated with great pomp here. Lord Ganesha was born on this day Hindus worship Lord Ganesha In every auspicious and auspicious work; the first Ganesha is worshipped.
on Ganesh Chaturthi. By the grace of Ganesha huge talent of Lord Ganesha is established in many prominent places, this statue is worshipped for 10 days, the troubles and troubles on the family are removed. A large number of people living nearby come to visit the school, after 9 days, the talent of Ganesha is immersed in any river or ocean water with songs and hawks. Ganesha is also known as Lambodar.
how to bring Ganesh idol on own home
During Ganesh Chaturthi, bringing Lord Ganesha into your home is a beloved tradition that requires several crucial steps. In order to respect environmental concerns, you should first choose a suitable idol of Lord Ganesha, preferably made of eco-friendly clay. Make sure your home is clean and sanctified before bringing the idol inside, paying special attention to the area where it will be placed.
Establish a beautifully adorned altar or platform for Lord Ganesha on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. For the forthcoming puja, arrange flowers, lamps, and incense on a clean cloth or decorative piece that serves as a base. Bring the idol home while chanting mantras or singing devotional songs and do it with a pure and happy heart.
After the idol is in place, carry out a brief ceremony known as Pran Pratishtha to invoke Lord Ganesha’s divine presence. This can be accomplished by doing Aarti, arranging flowers, and lighting incense. Give Ganesha his favorite candies, such as fruits, Ladoo, and Modak.
Throughout the festival, worship Ganesha every day with fervor. Following the designated days of worship (typically 1, 5, 7, or 10 days), honor Lord Ganesha’s return to his celestial abode by joyfully and respectfully immersing the idol in water as part of the Visarjan ritual.
How to Establishment of Ganesh sculpture on Ganesh Chaturthi
It is considered auspicious to place the idol of Lord Ganesha in the north or east direction of the house. In which the statue has Ganesha in a sitting posture and the trunk tilted towards the left is considered very auspicious. It is believed that bringing home such a statue of Ganapati brings peace along with happiness and prosperity in the house.
Before installing the idol of Ganesh, a yellow or red cloth should be laid on a small post, once the statue is installed, do not remove it from there. And shake the idol only at the time of immersion, do not consume any tamasic food after the arrival of Ganpati Bappa in the house nor make such dishes in the house.
Easy way to worship Ganesha
Ganesha is worshipped methodically. In which different types of mantras are chanted and rituals are performed. Whenever worship is done in the India, Ganesha is first invoked. After which flowers, sandalwood, incense, lamp, Naivedhya etc. are offered to them.

Tilak on Ganpati Bappa’s forehead with yellow sandalwood.
How Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated-
Before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, people clean their houses and decorate the puja places. Shopkeepers are very busy in the market as there is a lot of demand for the idol of Ganesh lord these days. Women make a variety of dishes at home, out of which Modak is the main one. Modak is a kind of laddu made from rice flour which contains coconut and jaggery.
The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout India, on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, people bring Ganesha to their home and worship him with law. They immerse Ganesha after keeping it at their home for 10 days, earlier this festival was celebrated only in Maharashtra and some parts of these but now it is being celebrated all over India.
Ganesh Chaturthi was started during the reign of King Maratha Shivaji in 16 centuries. Ganesh Chaturthi got recognition as a major festival in the 19th century. There were many efforts of Lokmanya Tilak behind this. Those who are known as freedom fighters. In today’s time, the trend of eco-friendly Ganesha idol is increasing very fast.
Religious Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi
The birth of Lord Ganesha is a wonderful event. Mata Parvati created Lord Ganesha with the udder of her body and made him stand as a gatekeeper for his protection. When Lord Shiva returned home and wanted to enter the house, Ganesha stopped him, due to which Shiva got angry and separated his neck from the torso.
Seeing all this, Parvati was very sad, seeing her sorrow, Lord Shiva put the head of Ganesha’s head elephant. And revived Ganesha or Ganesh is called Vignaharta, and he is worshiped first.
Visarjan of Ganesha
Ganesh is immersed on Anant Chaturdashi. People take out a procession of Ganpati idol accompanied by drums, songs, bandwagons. The idol of Ganesha is immersed in a river or pond
Conclusion
Celebrated with vigor across all religions and cultures, Ganesh Chaturthi is a celebration of community spirit, unity, and devotion. As a celebration dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the one who removes obstacles, it has profound religious meaning in Hinduism. The rites represent the cyclical nature of life—birth, celebration, and dissolution—from the ceremonial placement of Ganesha idols to their immersion.
The festival, which was first made popular by Bal Gangadhar Tilak to promote harmony during India’s independence movement, has grown to become a huge cultural phenomenon. Ganesh Chaturthi today unites people from all walks of life to commemorate not only the deity’s devotion but also common ideals of harmony and solidarity.

A Ritual at the Hunter’s Moon
Originally posted on my Wordpress Blog.
“Wild Hunt” by Velamir on Deviantart
This past full moon, often called the Hunter’s Moon, marked my eighth year in working with the Wylde Hunt. This year has already made me keenly aware of how quickly time can fly by. An eight-year milestone in something that still feels so new to my path is mind boggling to me, and yet… here I am nonetheless.
I typically mark the Hunter’s Moon each year. It’s become something of a tradition to honor my relationship with my hunter god and his cohort then. Autumn has well and truly fallen upon us now. Samhain isn’t far behind. The winds are fierce and chill. It is their season, after all. That this Hunter’s Moon fell upon the anniversary date of that fateful evening in my parents’ backyard felt especially potent.
The past five months or so have also revolved around beginning a new chapter in my life. I touched on this in my post for Lughnasadh, but much has changed in my life. A couple big moves. A new career choice, new relationship. The freedom of having my own vehicle. My time since last year’s Hunter’s Moon has been spent in a sort of transient path of self discovery- I’m not actually certain that it’s ended yet. This season, I believe, has been a lesson in realizing there needn’t always be a direction or a plan.
At any rate, I wanted to mark the occasion with something special, and also to reaffirm my path which had been left to the wayside for months while I was in Georgia and in the process of moving and settling in again. The ritual I constructed drew on a few different things that had been potent to me in the past. One of them was Damh the Bard’s post about the Ritual of the Wild. Another was a rite originally dedicated to the Washer at the Ford aspect of the Morrigan found in Stephanie Woodfield’s book Celtic Lore and Spellcraft of the Dark Goddess: Invoking the Morrigan. There were also some affirmations made along the way through my Bardic Studies that found their way into this ritual. What it resulted in was a potent ritual of rebirth and reaffirmation of my path.
It was cold, but clear that night, and the moon rose quickly to cast its silver glow on the whole of our yard. I gathered a vessel of water, an offering of whiskey, and some herbs I had blended and stepped out into the night. It was too windy for fire, and so I brought a small flashlight with which to read my notes by.
The night wasn’t as quiet as I’d hoped. Somewhere in the distance, a boat horn could be heard loudly and intermittently blasting from over the bay and the river to the south east (My girlfriend later pointed out: was it a boat horn? or the hunter’s horn? I’m sure I know the truth, but the more imaginative answer makes me feel less frustrated by it in hindsight). It had been ages since I’d cast a circle. Doing so just felt natural though; how many times had I walked that same circular path around our firepit? I couldn’t say, but the energy of that memory bolstered me.
I called for peace at the quarters, and stood, facing the northwest and the forest I couldn’t see in the darkness. I called to the Hunters then. Sometimes, the reassurance of something larger than ourselves is subtle- a gentle rise in the winds and in the whispering of the cottonwoods overhead, a certain rising of goosebumps on the skin.
I returned to the center, where I’d placed my tools on the cold stones of the firepit. A little billow of ash danced in the wind and off into the darkness. I emptied the herbs I’d prepared into the water, and I called to the Hunters for rebirth. I meditated a moment on the things I wished to leave behind, on the person I wished to become. And then, as the oils and herbs had steeped the water, I washed my hands with it, symbolically scrubbing away the old and worn out things that were holding me back.
Then I knelt and placed my head to the ground, and using some of the dialogue from Damh’s Ritual of the Wild and affirmations I’d used along my bardic studies, I spoke my desires into being. I struggled a little with remembering the words- but then felt a gentle reassurance: “Just speak from your heart.” I spoke aloud affirmations about feeling renewed on my path, about finding my place as a teacher and using my skills to guide others. I affirmed a release of relationships and toxic behaviors that hold me back. I spoke of living more fully and completely in the world- whatever joys or struggles that might entail.
As I stood, the wind gently rose again, bitterly cold from the northwest. And I raised my offering to the Hunters. Another turning has come, and I walk with renewed purpose. I buried in the soft ground around the firepit some wooden staves marked with the things I intended to leave behind and those I wished to manifest, and the necessity of change and transformation to achieve that end. I thanked the Hunters for their guidance, and I opened my circle.
My mind’s eye is always a little more colorful and dramatic as I’m preparing rituals. It’s why I’ve quit truly planning them altogether. The thing I’ve learned about initiations and dedications however, is that the shift in question has already begun long before the ritual take place. The ritual simply calls it into your conscious mind; the changes have been being made, little by little, for some time. And so, it needn’t be a flashy dramatic ritual with intense supernatural experiences. Sometimes, subtlety is even more potent.
Forest Blessings, Rachel

Digimon Anniversary
I know this is a day late, but Digimon Adventure just had its 20 year anniversary! In honor of the occasion I created this blog to celebrate my favorite Chosen Child, the Eighth Digi-Destined, Kari Kamiya (or Hikari Yagami in the Japanese version.) There’s so much I want to say about this character and what she means to me, all of which will be explored in future posts! But I want this post to focus on Digimon itself.
I’ve always had Digimon in my life. I don’t remember a time where I didn’t watch the franchise in some capacity. I watched it on ABC Family in the mornings before school. I saw Adventure, 02, Tamers, and Frontier. I saw when Savers first aired. I owned the VHS tapes of the original series. I got the card packs they sold, trying to collect each and every Digimon seen in the show. I owned quite a few of the stuffed animals. I even had a collectible lunch box. I loved it to death. I would go outside with my friends and play Digimon (don’t ask me how, I couldn’t tell you.) It was my entire world.
Until it wasn’t. I got older, and I left those things behind. I got into new TV shows and franchises, only reminiscing on my favorite childhood show once in a blue moon.
But that all changed when I became more adept at using the internet. I was in middle school at that point, and I had discovered anime. Only then did I realize Digimon was my first anime. It inspired me to rewatch the series. And I fell down the rabbit hole once again.
I rediscovered why the show had meant so much to me as a child, while also gaining a new appreciation for the characters. I was actually able to remember events past the Myotismon arc, which I don’t actually recall seeing as a young child. It was like experiencing the magic all over again.
Since then, the overwhelming fondness has come in waves. But my passion reawakened with the announcement of Digimon Tri. I was so excited, I visited the website every day despite not speaking or reading any Japanese. I scoured the internet for news. It was the first time I used Tumblr. I kept up to date with all the Tri news, watching the movies as they came out. And while Tri certainly has its flaws, I still love it.
Fast forward to today (or rather, yesterday.) It’s been 20 years since this life changing series began. We’ve received news there will be more content soon with the original Digi-Destined. I will see the characters I’ve loved my whole life, the friends they have become to me. I’m 21 now. I still collect the stuffed animals. I still buy the merchandise. It brings me back to when I was a kid. I think that’s a large point of the series to begin with. I’m so thankful to have grown up with this wonderful series beside me. It’s given me so much. I hope it can continue to give others what it’s given me.

Earlier this year, we asked the writers of the Jewel Riders fan community to gather around and create a pitch for the third season of the show, but with a twist! They had to create this pitch based on the toy concepts for the third season from Greg Autore, art director for the show.
We got several submissions, all of them very unique and interesting takes on what the third season could have been!
Our very first submission came from friend of the site Lisa Dawn, author and owner of The Princess Blog.
1. Lisa Dawn – Jewel Riders Third Season Concept
The Jewel Riders are celebrating the one year anniversary of rescuing Merlin from the wild magic and banishing Morgana and the other evil wizards. They are decked out in their finest ballgowns in the Crystal Palace’s banquet hall. Drake incessantly asks Gwenevere to spill all the details about her relationship with Ian. Gwen gets angry and refuses to dance with him. Moondance and Fallon try their best to enjoy their time together before Moondance must attend regular training sessions with her mother, Queen Sierra, to become the future queen of the unicorns. Tamara and the babies perform a special song for the celebration, but the performance is cut short when Tamara gets a call from her Heart Stone.

Season 3:
Morgana Returns – Morgana is back for revenge with her new powers!
This entry came from Tumblr user Hubbabubbagump.
3. Hubbabubbagump – Jewel Riders Third Season Concept
1 year has passed since the jewel riders defeating Morgana. Things have been peaceful and the girls have been occupied with planning their futures; Tamara has finished studying to become a veterinarian, Fallon and Moondancer are teaching a new generation of potential jewel riders and Gwenevere been busy with her coming coronation as queen. To make things better her little sister Tara comes back to visit after being away at dance-academy.
Things sure are looking up until random portals opens up all over Avalon causing magical havoc. Merlin tells the girls that something is wrong with the wild-magic and they have to travel into it to find the problem, but navigating through the wild magic too long is dangerous so he helps the girls to upgrade their armor to level 3 with include special powers for each one; Tamara has a shield for protection, Fallon gain wings on her boots for super-speed and Gwenevere gets enhanced super-strength.

Friend of the site Kathleen sent us this great concept!
4. Kathleen – Jewel Riders Third Season Concept
Merlin has come back to Avalon and the one jewel has brought peace to the land. Starla is struggling with her identity now that she gave up the sun stone to form the one jewel and she is no longer a jewel rider and without the sun stone to pass down she will be the last queen of Avalon if the people of Avalon will let her be queen since she lost the sun stone. These questions have taken Starla into the hall of portraits several times as she sought advice from the first Queen of Avalon and the one that found the sunstone since she is just getting reassurances from her friends and not actions to resolve her problem. Finding the diary of the first sunstone jewel rider, Starla finds accounts of how the first sunstone came to exist and she decides to follow in the path of the first jewel rider and restore her destiny.
Starla heads out on her own to follow the first jewel rider but it doesn’t take long for her friends to find her and join in on the adventure. Along the way they will encounter new friends, new magic, new stones and new enemies! Will the Jewel Riders ever be a trio again? Will the magic of friendship stand this newest trial? Only time will tell, so join us on this adventure in Season three of Princess Starla and the Jewel Riders.
Co-founder of the Archive, Ronnie Delmar, put his creativity to good use in coming up with his concept!
5. Ronnie Delmar – Jewel Riders Third Season Concept
Our story begins with a fairytale wedding – Princess Gwenevere and Ian are finally tying the knot! Tamara and Fallon are Gwen‘s best gal friends so of course there are to be the maids of honor. But the ceremony is cut short when Arienda, the fairy wraith, appears with urgent news of a cry from help from a distant land. It seems a nomadic child fell into the wild magic, and landed in the forest of Arden. She is a wryly little thing! Tara is her name.
At this news, Merlin becomes very concerned. He and Archie retreat to his secluded house where they begin a scholarly search. Not wanting to disturb the newlyweds, Tamara, Fallon, and the Pack head out on an adventure to locate and rescue the foundling. When the team arrives they notice something quite peculiar, a large blanket of snow has covered the landscape of the forest of Arden. Try as they might, they cannot control the snowfall. But haven’t they encountered something like this before? Remember when the eighth land of Avalon was changed due to the wild magic outbreak, not to mention the rest of Avalon itself when the Crown Jewels went missing? But we know of one jewel that can control the icy weather! The snowflake jewel from Glimmer Glenn helps Tamra to control the snowy outbreak, in addition giving her a new wardrobe. But there is still no sign of Tara…
Drake, Josh, and Max try to communicate with the trees, but all of the inhabitants seem to be in a state of confusion! No one can quite agree on where they last saw the child. Fallon uses a newly acquired magic trick, from the twister jewel, that gives her superhuman speed. She zooms around the forest looking for Tara, but to no avail.

And finally, co-founder of the Archive Chris Kanther dug into Arthurian mythology for his entry.
6. Chris Kanther – Jewel Riders Third Season Concept
Over a thousand years before Gwenevere held the Sun Stone, it was entrusted by Merlin and the Lady of the Lake to Queen Guinevere, wife of King Arthur. She used it alongside her husband to protect the land of Albion, and the shining city of Camelot.
While Merlin and the Lady of the Lake used their magic to help the King and Queen, there were other Wizards in Albion as well. Morgana felt that her son, Mordred, should have sat on the throne of Camelot, and waged bitter war against the people of Albion.
In a climactic final battle, Camelot was destroyed, and Arthur and Guinevere used the magic of Excalibur to send the people of Camelot and their daughter Gyneth away with Merlin and the Sun Stone to the hidden land of Avalon.
Arthur’s noblest knights stayed with them, and in a final act of heroism they gave their lives to create the Border Mists that keep Avalon hidden from the rest of the world. Mordred’s armies tried to sail through and capture the mystical land, but were lost in the Border Mists, never to be seen again.

Black Widow/Castaway What would you call her?
Tam Beddingford looked out over the beautiful back forty that made up the boundary of her ranch. Never in a million years would she have envisioned thdis for herself. Lord knows her beginning was full of betrayal to go with the doom and gloom. A tear slid down her face at the sound of her twin sons Peter and Zora splashing in the Olympic sized pool that was a gift from Jude. He thought spoiling them would absolve him of his guilt. She took a sip of her sweet tea as a tear slid down her cheek, then turned to Stephanie Heartache, a reporter from Broken Hearts and Troubled Wives. Stephanie had come all of the way from New York City to interview the Double Deadly Black Widow. It was kind of funny when she thought about it.
Stephanie took a deep breath as Tam asked her, “What would you like to know?” Well Tam, I would like to know how it feels to be so beautiful, talented and feared by every man on the planet? Tam responded with a bitter laugh. So you go straight for the juggler? Did you come for the juicy gossip or the truth? I have never told my story before. I am only doing so now because my boys need to know the truth about their mother. They are at that age where the internet will educate them about who I am if I don’t speak soon. Social media has destroyed my character and made me a pariah in the church as well as polite society. If my parents and father-in-law weren’t on the HOA board Heavenly Hills would have banned me from purchasing all that you see."
My family is originally from Senegal. I had no clue that they were still entering into traditional marriage contracts. I was raised believing we had moved to America to escape the rituals and traditions that held the women in my family in bondage. My father never indicated that he had promised me to Jude Blankenship’s first born son at my birth. The only time I even thought of the Blankenship boys and their nasty attitudes was when my sisters and I were forced to spend a week at their famly home on our annual trips to Senegal. I always assumed it was because our fathers were business partners.
My father summoned me home to Dallas the night before my 22nd birthday and two days before the launch of my first clothing line at New York Fashion Week. When I arrived the party was already in full swing at my family’s estate I naively assumed it was in honor of my birthday and my launch. No way would I have guessed it was my wedding. But it was, my father pulled me into my old bedroom and announced that Aaron had waited long enough for me to make something of myself. My fashion line was already sold out so it was time to take my place as his wife. My jaw dropped to the ground. I could not believe what I was hearing. Tam chuckled, I could not even tell you the exact color of the Vera Wang gown the stylist draped around me. I had no choice. A broken contract would cost my father his fortune. As the oldest daughter I felt obligated to protect what he had worked so hard for. I detested Aaron. He was a horrible unpleasant child. He was a saint then compared to what he had become. Yes he was fine, but he was selfish. He lorded his status and privilege over everyone.
Stephanie swallowed hard. She had been in this business too long to not know you never walked into an interview thinking you knew your subject. How many times had she prejudged someone only to discover they were the exact opposite of the blogs and social media posts. The most innocent people became monsters in person while those most maligned were usually victims of bad gossip and petty rivalries. Shame caused her face to turn crimson as she tried to to comfort Tam. It was not your responsibility to keep your family fortune intact. You had broken away from the fold and created your own launch pad.
I am Senegalese before I am an American. My family honor trumps the comfort and happiness of being a daughter. Being the first born anything carries much weight and responsibility. My father had no sons to carry on our name and Jude had no daughters to give in exchange for a secure financial future.
Tam frowned as she remembered how rough Aaron had been taking her virginity. The shame and humiliation she felt as he spilled his seed onto her belly while he laughed at her disdainfully. I’ll never put a child in a woman who is so weak. You didn’t even attempt to defy our fathers and their antiquated agreement. It is 2000 what woman allows herself to be sold into slavery to a man who will never love or be faithful to her? With these words he climbed off her returning shortly to throw a cold wet wash cloth at her. Clean yourself I am going to sleep. All she could do was crawl out of bed and run a warm bath. Maybe the heat of the water would ease the burn between her legs. That bath was her only comfort that night. She climbed back into bed with a husband that detested her only to find he had turned his back and was eerily cold.
She was eating breakfast the next morning when Rhoda ran into the dining room screaming that Aaron wasn’t breathing. Tam called 911. Aaron had died while Team was in the tub. The coroner's report said it was a heart attack.
Stephanie's next question was full of empathy. "How did it feel to have so many drastic life changing events in such a short period of time? Tam smiled, Girl, those were only the beginning of my life changing events. I should have bed relieved but I did not get the opportunity to process anything. Our parents swooped in and took Omar, Aaron's brother and myself to city hall where we were forced into a levirate marriage. Aaron had to have an heir to carry on his legacy.
Omar was a little kinder but could be just as mean spirited. Night after night for a week he pulled out right before planting his seed swearing he would not father a child that would not be considered his own. On the eighth night his heart gave out as he was pulling out of me. I know they heard my screams from Dallas to Fort Worth.
We had a double funeral because all of the family members had arrived the day before. Afterwards Jude and Theodore, my father, agreed that I would return to my parents home until the youngest and last Blankenship, Sean turned 18. We would marry fulfilling my family's contractual obligations and live happily every after. Jude decided I was cursed and never intended for us to marry. Sean was only a 14 year old boy. The whole idea was ludicrous. The local society page The Teetotaler game me tee name Double Deadly Black Widow.
I felt betrayed abandoned and rejected. I knew I wasn't cursed. Those men were no good. I was all alone in my parents home designing under a pseudonym. No one wanted to purchase a cursed woman's clothing. Even the women at my church shunned me.
Five years later my younger sister, Fabiola sent me a screenshot of a Facebook post. Sean had married a young lady closer to his age on the family yacht in a lavish ceremony. I was devastated, again. How could anyone be so cruel? My entire life had been planned for me from birth. I submitted to the culture and customs only to be thrown away without a second thought. Every year on the anniversary of the deaths it all starts up again. I became a recluse. I couldn't leave my father's home without paparazzi trailing me. I was 27 years old with no social life and no hope of ever marrying. I would never enjoy the beauty and ministry that is marriage.
An excerpt from Only in the Bible an original work of fiction written by yours truly.
Remain Blessed.

At SDCC this weekend is a special WildStorm 25th Anniversary signing at the San Diego Comic Art Gallery. It looks to be quite the event and I’m looking forward to seeing many of the people I interviewed for Wild Times which has led to sad thoughts of how WS artist Oliver Nome won’t be there. Oliver passed away this past March. He had a very fun journey getting to WildStorm and was an integral part of the book in that his early interview helped attract other WildStormers to see what the project was all about. Others knew him far better than I so I didn’t believe it was my place to post a sort of eulogy earlier this year so instead, in honor of Oliver during the biggest annual event of our industry, I am posting a large segment from Wild Times- Interlude VIII: Modern Age Secret Origin Stories. It is a fun chapter that looks at three different artists that came to WildStorm during very different times and in the later era of the studio. It is one of the few spots in the book that has long, uninterrupted quotes from the participants as their stories were so great, I wanted to shine a special spotlight on them in their entirety. I hope you give it a read. Enjoy.
Oliver Nome (Artist): It all started in, gosh I believe it was maybe December of 2005 when the Wizard Magazine was still around, and they announced Jim Lee was doing a WildStorm talent search, which he hadn’t done in a long time. I’d been trying to break into the industry. Going to Comic-cons for a decade trying to break in, and I saw this and was at a crossroads in my life, quit a job, move to a new city? I was deciding, “I would try this one last time, if I don’t get it I am just going to go back to school.” I was applying to fashion schools, and I would just pursue that because I’m turning 28, and I haven’t broken in yet, so it’s probably not going to happen. But I told myself I’m going to do this contest, and I’m going to win it because this is my last chance.
I got the tryout assignment. I did the first round of tryout pages, and then I had turned them in. The first round of tryouts was WizardWorld LA in March of 2006, and I went to that, dropped off my sample pages from the sample script everyone had to draw from. So I dropped that off with Scott Dunbier at the DC booth at WizardWorld.
I went back the next day and stopped by to see Dunbier again, and he said, “Yes. I remember you. You’re here. Be in this conference hall at this time.” There was two separate stacks. Obviously one was no’s and one was yes’s. So I was on the yes stack, and that’s when I knew. I thought, “Okay, I might be one of the finalists.” It was only like five or six portfolios. So I’m like, “Okay, cool. I guess I’m up against five other people.”
So I went into the conference hall. It was pretty big and pretty packed. Up on the main stage were tables, and Jim Lee was up there, Scott Dunbier, Scott Lobdell, I believe Alé Garza and a few other people. And they had two big screens set up, and they did the introduction, and there was a lot of people in there. They said what they were going to do was call you up one at a time, you’re going to sit up here, and we’re going to interview you, and while we’re interviewing you, we’re going to start to show the five page tryout that we asked you to do and the audience will see.
So people went up there one at a time. I can’t remember what number I was, but I remember being nervous. “My God, I’m going to sit up there next to Jim Lee and these people.” And I said, “You know what, I’m an outgoing person, and I’ve got a personality. I’m just going to sell my personality.” Because all these other guys, no offense, but they all seemed pretty timid. So when I got up there—I don’t know, it was weird—I didn’t feel intimidated at all. I felt comfortable, even with all the people in the audience.
They started asking questions, and I was making them laugh and just selling my personality, telling them what I did and this and that. It was pretty quick, and I showed them the art. And then afterwards they’re like, “Okay, good luck you guys, and we’ll get back in touch.” Afterwards, we all disbanded and Dunbier came up to me right away and gave me his card and said to follow up with him.”
A few weeks later, this was about April, I got an email, and I guess they were trying to do it American Idol style and doing a second round in Philly, and then they sent me a script. They’re like, “Here, do this script because you’re going to go up against this other guy or these other people from Philly.” And I remember it being five pages from Authority #1. I was just like, “Damn it.” The last thing I wanted was to do a script from something like The Authority which Bryan Hitch had done, and I knew in my head and which was so amazing. I was like, “Oh God. How am I going to do this? How am I going to do my take on this?” It’s already there on the page.
But I busted my ass and did the pages and sent them in. It was a long process. I made sure I was emailing the editors, especially Dunbier, like, I swear every week. But there was a lot of personal stuff I had also going on at the time so the process took forever.
I thought it was over with or I didn’t win. By this time I had left my job in Austin and moved to Dallas and started a new job, and I was still applying to schools. But it was about six months later and Dunbier had called, and I said, “Gosh, finally,” and he did the whole spiel like you know, “You should be proud you made it this far,” and this and that, you know that whole spiel, “Don’t quit.” And I was thinking, “God, I lost.” But then he was like, “Just joking. You won. I’ll get in touch with the HR people, and we’ll do all the paperwork and this and that and head on out to San Diego.” So the process took a couple of weeks then I packed up and moved to San Diego.
Luckily, I really didn’t know anyone, but my friend from Austin had just moved there a few weeks before, so I stayed with her for a couple of weeks until I got my own apartment and then I started off as an intern. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I remember being there the first day right on time, at 9 o’clock. Of course none of the other artists starting showing up till normally 10, 11, 12. People started trickling in, and I’d never met any of them except for Alé, and I’d met Alé at a New York Comic-Con in January of that year.
Then Dunbier showed me around and introduced me to everybody, showed me the studio. I was just in awe. I was just like, “Well what do you want me to do?” He said, “I really don’t know. Just sit here and start drawing something. I don’t know.” And then it was lunch time and Jim still wasn’t there and the guys came in, and they’re like, “Hey, Jim wants us all to go to his place.” He’d gotten a new place and had lunch there, and I’m like, “My God, we’re going to Jim Lee’s house to have lunch,” and we went and had Chinese food. He had this really nice house by the beach. I was blown away.
So we just chatted, and then I interned for three months, and I ended up finding out my job was helping design the DC Online game that they had started. They’d already been working on it for a couple of months and then I got hired based off of—Jim was most impressed with my background skills, and that’s what they really needed, was people to design background environments for the video game.
I was just practicing all the time and drawing on the weekends. I learned the most from Carlos D’Anda because he was such a master, and it got to the point where to this day he still thinks I outdo him. He says, “I learned so much from you and your backgrounds.” I still think he’s amazing. It got to the point where he would ask me advice on how to do backgrounds, which is flattering.
From Jim I learned just dynamics and his way of thinking and even the way he does backgrounds. He’s like, “You know backgrounds. Don’t be so anal like some people. You know your perspective. Do what I do, just if you know it, eye it. That’ll save you a lot of time, and it looks more organic. It doesn’t look so labored and so stiff.”
I learned techniques from everyone. I think mainly JJ Kirby taught me the most because he’s a great colorist, but I learned little things from Carlos and Ed [Nuñez]. Everyone there pretty much colored so I learned techniques there. I learned that. It was a great time.
You couldn’t ask for a better location. We’re like a little brotherhood. We were the artists in the art section. There is a whole entire section in the office of editors and management and production people, colorists, all these other people in different parts of the studio, but we were working on the other end. We were also working with inkers like Sandra Hope, Trevor Scott and Scott Williams—three of the biggest inkers in the industry were pretty much there every day working too, and I would go hang out. Obviously I inked myself, and I started off, once I got my first gigs I was inking and people liked the way I inked, and I would learn techniques and ask them about what particular tools they use, and I learned a lot inking wise from them. I just tried to absorb whatever I could from the best people in the industry.
Obviously I’ve got to say that it opened a lot of doors just being there right off the bat. Once I got started being able to go on the blog, it opened me to a whole new audience. Just being under WildStorm got me into Comic-Con right off the bat when artists have to wait years to get in. I’ve been going to Comic-Con, this will be like my, seventh or eighth in a row now finally, thank goodness. And it opened a lot of doors. All of a sudden I had access to all these editors. Like any industry it’s all about who you know. So I took advantage of all that. Once I got to the point to where I was equal to everybody I started making my contacts and slowly trying to build my career. And that’s what I got from WildStorm.
The irony is even though I’d go to different comic events for years and years and years I would show every publisher my work and get, “No, no, no”, the only person I never would show my work to was Jim directly because I was like, “All the other people said no. There’s no way my idol and the reason why I draw comics [is] going to see anything in me and hire me.” And the funny thing is, he’s the one that ended up being the one to give me my first break, and he’s the one that saw something and gave me my chance and nurtured it, and that was that, so that played out in a nice little way. It all worked out in the end.

9 Reasons the Dark n Stormy Will Stand the Test of Time
If it hasn’t happened to you yet, you’ll find out soon enough: 40th birthdays really are kind of a big deal. And so it is with the Dark ’n Stormy, a cocktail that marries peppery ginger beer with a dark cloud of Goslings Black Seal Rum floating on top. Each year, June 9 is internationally recognized as Dark ‘n Stormy Day, honoring the trademark of the cocktail and the historical moment in the brand’s story. The drink celebrates this year’s special 40th anniversary, four decades after Goslings first registered a trademark on the cocktail’s name.
A momentous birthday is reason enough to raise a frosty glass. But the Dark ’n Stormy has a history deserving of celebration beyond its years, with beginnings in the British Navy, a name derived from tropical weather, and a family legacy that spans two centuries.
As you toast to another 40 years of the Dark ’n Stormy, here are nine reasons we know this cocktail will stand the test of time:
1. Bermuda officially hearts Dark ‘n Stormy®
Not many places can claim an official mixed drink. The British overseas territory of Bermuda is one of the few. (Other notable official cocktails include Washington, D.C.’s Rickey and Puerto Rico’s Piña Colada.) The Dark ‘n Stormy has a real attachment to this place: James Gosling founded his company in Bermuda all the way back in 1806, after setting sail from England with a boatload of wine and spirits.
2. As long as there are clouds in the sky…
Bermuda locals first started to mix the drink in the 1920s, when the Dark ’n Stormy became popular with British navy officers who were stationed on the island. The sailors found that the ginger beer served in their commissary improved immeasurably with a dose of Goslings Black Seal Rum.
The story goes that an old fisherman saw the color of the dark Black Seal Rum floating over the pale ginger beer, and compared it to a cloud “only a fool or dead man would sail under.” And thus, the cocktail earned the name Dark ‘n Stormy.
3. The Dark ‘n Stormy® can truly only be made with one rum—and there’s a trademark to prove it
Want an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan? Pick your poison. Ordering a Dark ’n Stormy? That necessarily means a drink made with ginger beer, ice and a float of Goslings Black Seal Rum — and no variations, thanks to the trademark registered by Goslings on June 9, 1980.
4. Sailors love it (and so does everyone else)
Its roots in the Royal Navy make the Dark ‘n Stormy a logical go-to for sailors from many ports. Goslings even served as a (natural) sponsor of the 35th America’s Cup that took place around Bermuda in 2017.
Goslings sponsored the 35th America’s Cup.
But the drink also has fans far inland. “My father was in Prague masterclasses with bartenders a year ago, and the Dark ’n Stormy has already made its name even out there. So that is kind of unexpected,” says eighth-generation rum maker Malcolm Gosling Jr. “But you see it in other places that aren’t as unexpected, such as Rhode Island — because of the sailing culture and the ties that they’ve had between Bermuda and Rhode Island.”
The ever-popular Dark ‘n Stormy is the reason Goslings is known around the globe. “Even though we’ve been around for 200-plus years, exports didn’t really start until the 1980s,” Gosling says. The Dark ‘n Stormy ended up being the catalyst for the expansion of the Goslings brand worldwide.”
5. Goslings doesn’t just make the rum
The ultimate Dark ‘n Stormy relies on the refreshing interplay of sweetness and spiciness. To help home bartenders achieve this, Goslings launched a signature Stormy Ginger Beer back in 2009 that expertly complements its rich dark rum. “A lot of ginger beers are just really fiery and burn the back of your throat,” says Gosling. “We didn’t want that, but we did want the ginger taste to be out front.” All that said, you don’t have to use Goslings Stormy Ginger Beer to make a Dark ‘n Stormy — just look for one that’s nicely peppery without being overly sweet.
6. It’s a drink that will make your cocktail game look world-class
With only two required ingredients — Goslings Black Seal Rum and high-quality, flavorful ginger beer — a Dark ‘n Stormy made in your home kitchen can easily compete with versions made by the world’s best mixologists.
7. The Dark ‘n Stormy® template leaves room for creativity
While lime is the traditional third ingredient, generally presented in the form of a lime-wheel garnish, feel free to express yourself. “I know people who like to put a pineapple in there,” says Gosling. “The garnish is something that you can really play around with — from pineapple to orange, lemon, you name it.” There is also the frozen take on the drink. As Gosling says, “I’ve been spending more time at home recently so I’ve been experimenting with the Frozen Dark ‘n Stormy –I like Kelvin Slush’s Dark ‘n Stormy recipe but you can also just blend Goslings Rum, ginger beer, and ice together in a blender for a simple but creative serve.”
8. When all else fails, you can pop a can
With canned cocktails the way of the future, Goslings offers its Dark ’n Stormy in ready-to-drink servings, making it easily transportable to boats, beaches, golf courses, hiking trails or any other place where glass and mixing isn’t ideal.

9. The Dark ‘n Stormy® is sealed in history
Yes, the label on Goslings Black Seal Rum has a black seal — as in the animal — on it, but when Goslings got started, that name was based on something else entirely: a bit of recycling. In the 19th century, there was no bottle manufacturer in Bermuda, so Goslings used whatever was available from the local naval officers’ mess. “We would reuse Champagne bottles, put a cork in them, and reseal the cork with wax. That blend of rum always got black wax,” says Gosling. “So people became accustomed to asking for the bottle with the black seal.” The sea creature has only graced Gosling’s label since around 1950, when Francis “Goose” Gosling sketched the now-iconic Black Seal logo.

8 Years and Counting of TSLL!
Eight years ago today, out in the solitary countryside of Wallowa County, TSLL blog began with nothing more than gratitude for the means to tap, tap, tap away on the keys and perhaps connect with other individuals enjoying life in a similar manner, interested in similar aesthetics and finding the gumption to just be themselves in a world that sometimes felt a little too quick, a little too surface and a little too unaware of how amazing so much of the everyday could be savored, let alone the once-in-a-lifetime moments.
As the blog celebrates its eighth anniversary and begins to step forward into its 9th year of posting, sharing, connecting and ultimately remaining curious about how to live well on an everyday income, my eagerness is abundant. As well, while my hopes are high, my energy is building up as much will be needed as, if past years are any indication, there are always new, exciting and unexpected opportunities and ideas that bounce across my path that I cannot help but say ‘yes’ to.
Whether you are a new regular visitor, a long-time TSLL reader or someone just happening upon the blog today and curious to see what it is all about, thank you for your interest and, ultimately, your curiosity about how to reach your full potential and elevate your everydays.
Over the past weekend, while traveling to my parents’ home in the country nestled in the snow and frigid temperatures, one of the handful of podcasts I listened to was Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations. This particular episode was with positive psychologist Shawn Anchor. And when Oprah asked him the question, “What is happiness?” his response brought a spontaneous smile from ear to ear as everything I have given my wholehearted attention to as the benefit of living simply luxuriously truly embodies his answer: “Happiness is the joy we feel while striving for our potential.”
My interpretation of the idea of “striving for our potential” is the feeling we finally realize when we have taken the time to quiet ourselves, listen and honor what we discover about what we are passionate about, what we care deeply about, what our true and unique talents are and begin to let these truths be our guide regardless of outside noise, roadblocking or misunderstanding. Eventually, if the creation and evolution of TSLL blog is any indication, you begin to connect with those who do understand or at least wish to learn more, and the most unexpected, magical and truly wonderful and honest connections are made.
Thank you, and may we all step ever further toward bringing to fruition our own unique simply luxurious lives as the ninth year of TSLL begins. I will continue to do my best to be your guide, and of course your cheerleader from afar no matter where you call home.
For the remainder of the week through Sunday December 31, the blog will be featuring the TOP POSTS in each category regularly shared on the blog for this past year. Yesterday the top episodes of the podcast for 2017 were shared and just moments ago, the top Style Inspiration posts of 2017 were also shared. And rest assured, beginning on Monday January 1st, a new episode of the podcast will air, a giveaway will be opened to enter AND an extra post of inspiration to kick off 2018. I do hope you’ll stop by, and until the next time TSLL tickles the curiosity of your fingers while you’re online, happy holidays.

Disney debuted its highly-anticipated first trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" at a fan event in the United States Friday, sending the Internet into a frenzy of excitement - and speculation.
The footage from the eighth installment in the blockbuster space opera, due for release on December 15, was shown at the "Star Wars Celebration" gathering in Orlando marking the 40th anniversary of the original movie.
The 132-second clip teases Luke Skywalker's first meeting with Rey as he teaches her the ways of the Force, opening with the young apprentice on the island where fans saw her find Luke at the end of "The Force Awakens."
"Breathe, just breathe. Now, reach out. What do you see?" says a mysterious male voice as the camera focuses on a breathless Rey (Daisy Ridley) on her hands and knees beneath a cliff face.
"Light. Darkness. And balance," Rey replies.
"It's so much bigger," the voice says.
"I only know one truth. It's time for the Jedi - to end," says the voice, which seems likely to be Luke (Mark Hamill).
The first fully-formed trailer for "The Last Jedi" had almost half a million views and more than 13,000 comments on YouTube within 90 minutes of being posted, with #TheLastJedi quickly becoming the top trending hashtag worldwide on Twitter.
Directed by Rian Johnson ("Looper," "Brick"), "The Last Jedi" was filmed on the west coast of Ireland and at Pinewood Studios near London.
'Incredible mind' It sees the return of the characters introduced in 2015's seventh installment, including Rey, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Finn (John Boyega) and a few members of the original crew, including Luke.
The trailer serves up a cameo from the iconic Millennium Falcon in a dogfight with TIE fighters and there's also lightsaber-wielding bad guy Kylo Ren as well as Poe, Finn and droid favorites BB-8 and R2-D2.
The film also stars Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, who appears briefly from behind in the trailer.
Fisher died in December but had wrapped shooting "The Last Jedi" before her death, and was honored with an emotional video tribute as the convention opened Thursday.
Johnson paid his own tribute to Fisher - who had a career parallel to her acting as a writer and highly regarded script editor - revealing that she helped him with much of the dialogue.
"I love her so much, man, I just adore her, and I connected with her first and foremost as a writer. She's a brilliant writer, an incredible mind. I'd go to her house and we'd sit on her bed for hours and go through the script," he said.
"We'd have these stream-of-consciousness jazz poetry ad-lib sessions and I would just scribble on my script everything she said. And then, at the end of six hours, there would be like a four-word line of dialogue."
Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy later revealed in an interview with ABC News that Fisher would not appear in the as-yet untitled ninth episode, due for release in 2019.
Kennedy said the actress's brother Todd Fisher was "probably confused" when he announced she had a role in the final part of the latest trilogy of "Star Wars" movies.
Secrecy Fans had been lining up on the sidewalk overnight to get into the event, hosted by "Frozen" actor Josh Gad and featuring Ridley, Boyega, Johnson, Hamill and Kennedy.
Johnson unveiled a new star, Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose, a maintenance worker who is part of the resistance.
The actress revealed that she had told her family she was doing "an indie movie in Canada" - such has been the secrecy surrounding the film.
Hamill - a central figure in the original trilogy - told the crowd it was a pleasure to be able to enjoy the prequel films and last year's "Rogue One" spin-off without the pressure of actually having to carry them.
The actor said he had admitted to Johnson that trying to capture "lightning in a bottle" again was a prospect that "terrified" him - and he was relieved to find the director felt the same way.
"To a certain extent, it's not Luke's story anymore. But I think he's an important part to the overall arc of the saga and again, there's a lot of mystery about him, even within the film," said Hamill.
This prompted Kennedy to insist that Hamill was "Mr Modesty," and tell the audience: "He is so significantly important to this next film."

Get to Know Goslings Rum: The Spirit of Bermuda
Not every country has a national cocktail, but Bermuda most certainly does: the Dark ‘n Stormy®. And just as the drink is intrinsic to the island nation, Goslings Rum is, too.
“It’s synonymous with Bermuda,” says Goslings Rum CEO Malcolm Gosling. Goslings is the island’s oldest business and has been a staple of Bermudian culture since it was founded by James Gosling in 1806.
Gosling says the aged black rum is even used in an island tradition called “roof wetting” where the roofs of new buildings are christened with a bottle of Goslings instead of Champagne. In Bermuda, roofs are important for collecting rain (the only source of drinking water on-island) and diverting it into cisterns for use by homes and businesses. Of course, the rum tastes much better in a cocktail than it does dripping from roof tiles.
These days, it’s rare to find a spirits brand that remains independent and family-owned, but Goslings is now run by the seventh generation, with five members of the eighth generation also working for the company. For Malcolm Gosling, this remains a source of pride. “Our name is on that bottle, and we’re going to do our utmost to ensure that we’re producing a quality product every time,” he says.
This award-winning product is Goslings Black Seal Rum, a blend of distillates sourced from several Caribbean islands (Bermuda does not have enough arable land to grow its own sugarcane). The Goslings recipe remains a carefully guarded secret, but the family says it has changed very little since its creation. The rum is blended and aged in Bermuda in re-charred ex-bourbon barrels from three to six years. This time spent in-barrel imbues the rum with its deep flavor and notes of vanilla, caramel, and dried fruit. And the island’s tropical climate helps to accelerate the aging process, as the heat and humidity maximizes the interaction between the rum and the wood.
https://vinepair.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Black-Seal-Bottling.mp4
Black Seal Rum on the bottling line at Goslings Headquarters in Hamilton, Bermuda.
Initially, Black Seal was simply known as “Old Rum,” and was sold to customers straight from the barrel. Starting in the early 20th century, the rum was sold in used Champagne bottles (a favorite drink of British naval officers at the time) and sealed with black wax. Hence the name “Black Seal.” A nod to this history can be found today with the premium expression Family Reserve Old Rum, an extra-aged spirit that is bottled in a black wax-sealed Champagne bottle much like the days of old. This decadent sipping rum uses the same recipe as Black Seal, but it’s aged between 16 and 20 years, putting this rich and earthy spirit on par with a fine Scotch or Cognac.
The flagship Black Seal can be used in a whole variety of applications, but it is a crucial component in the Dark ‘n Stormy®. The name of this iconic cocktail, a simple and refreshing mix of Goslings, ginger beer, and fresh lime, was trademarked by the company back in 1980. This year, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the drink, Goslings has established International Dark ‘n Stormy® Day, to be celebrated every June 9 here out. Sure, you can mix another rum with ginger beer, says Gosling, but it will taste different than the cocktail made with Goslings Black Seal Rum. So, if a bar or restaurant wants to call it a Dark ‘n Stormy® it should necessarily be made with Goslings.
Goslings plays an important role with the bartender community, which has embraced the Black Seal rum (and its lighter sibling, Gold Seal) as a spirit that can be used in many different types of cocktails, including tiki classics like the Jungle Bird and the Mai Tai. It provides the right balance of depth and character that appeals to both novices and spirits aficionados. “Whether I am mixing with it on its own in a stirred or shaken cocktail or layering a mix of rums it always manages to add complexity with its depth and versatility,” said Erick Castro, “Bartender at Large” podcast host and proprietor of San Diego bars Raised By Wolves and Polite Provisions. “The spicy notes of brown sugar and cinnamon that it brings to a drink are unmistakable and could not come from any other rum out there.” Castro is also a fan of Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum, but recommends sipping that rather than mixing it.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Goslings Dark ‘n Stormy® cocktail.
Brown spirits have been on a meteoric rise in popularity over the past decade, fueled by the explosive growth of bourbon. Drinkers are becoming more adventurous and crossing over into other categories, with aged rum being an obvious choice. “Bourbon allowed [a new] generation to experiment with other aged spirits,” said Gosling. He acknowledges that the rum category overall is a bit unwieldy because it is made in so many different countries, each of which has its own regulations. Goslings’ mission is to maintain a consistent standard of taste that consumers can depend on.
In 2019, Goslings introduced its ultra-premium Papa Seal Single Barrel Rum. “It’s dramatically different from anything we’ve ever done,” said Gosling. “It allowed us the opportunity to experiment with conditioning the barrel prior to aging the rum,” which is the most he will reveal about this special process. This extremely limited expression is aged for more than 15 years in the balmy Bermuda climate, with production limited to just 12 barrels annually. Goslings is now working on some other limited-release bottlings, like a special barrel-finished rum. “It’s sleeping as we’re talking now,” says Gosling.
As Goslings continues to innovate and look toward the future, it stands firmly rooted in its long history and tradition and continues to focus on making affordable, high-quality rum that can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed into your favorite drink. Goslings Black Seal remains an iconic brand, not just in the history and culture of Bermuda, but, indeed, in the category of rum globally.
