Genuinely caught myself checking Discord because I'm stalling reading one of my Top 5 Favorite Books Ever because it makes me so emotional.
I think what I'm going to do is read the book and withhold commentary until the end.
(Probably do like I did with the Starset novels and keep a running commentary in my phone notes, and also when rereading TLT, but maybe this time I'll actually POST them. 8F )
#There's a scene about 2/3 of the way through that touched me so much it inspired a scene between Dove and Srentha in The Next Step.#So the reason it makes me so emotional is because I relate to Elphaba a LOT.#Fighting injustices in the world. Being ostracized and mocked my entire childhood. Still being myself despite it all.#The defiance of things that don't make sense. The indignant rage when things are revealed to be fake. There's just. There's so MUCH of me#in her and it really juxtaposes how The Scarlet Letter touched me (''suffering made her human/gentle'' vs ''suffering made her wicked''.)#I would argue and explode with rage when something hurt someone who didn't deserve it and that would get me labeled A Problem.#I was also blamed for a LOT of things that I hadn't done or WOULDN'T DO as a child at home and school alike...#I used to wonder how wicked I really could be. (Gestures vaguely at Thorn stuff from when I was a teen.)#I also tried to fight off my reputation to no avail.#Gods I just. I could draw so many parallels it blacks out the page but I really DO want to read this book again before the movie!
