Identity and Video Games
By now it is safe to assume that most people understand the value of video games given its primary use of escapism. With this day and age where various different problems would arise left and right, it goes without saying that we are faced in rough times of stress and need some sort of outlet. That would be where games come in and their many variations to what we prefer and enjoy. With my previous blogs, it has been shown how games have been brought up with modern times and how current society has been going through a gradually change with their acceptance of difference genders and beliefs, but more often than not there are people who still feel repressed by the will of others and have no opportunities to actually express who or what they wish to be. That reason alone is why some players tend to drift towards certain role playing games that offer a sort of character creation, where they are able to fully create a character that symbolizes the type of person they want to be physically. With that reasoning in mind, certain developers have gotten the idea to create games with a more idealistic outlook on their own reality. To be more specific, in those games, the player can choose what kind of person they want to appear as in order to communicate with one another in a virtual life. In games like those, there are people who are able to express themselves as a different gender online for a more realistic experience. Part of the reason why it works so well is based on the fact that they can keep their real identities a secret from other people. One specific game that could be an example of this is called IMVU. IMVU is a type of mobile and online game that allows people to customize their character however they want themselves to appear online, and then they can connect and talk to one another like a form of social media. With games like those, there has been a common occurrence of oppressed and transgender men making female avatars of how they want to be seen by other people, and oppressed females making male avatars for how they want to be seen. That way they have no fear of being identified or "outed" by their real life peers and can feel free to create their ideal image and to feel like they have a certain degree of control over their life. Not to mention that it allows them to behave in any way they choose to without being self conscious for how they appear nor with any fear of being judged by their online peers. In addition, there is a type of console called Virtual Reality Headset, or VR Headset for short, that is especially used for those types of games. For these specific types of gamers, that kind of platform offers them a more realistic first-person point of view experience that leaves them very obsessed. On different social media sites, there have been many memes and comments about those types of games the more popular they became, ultimately turning into a controversy due to the input of negative people. These people are well aware of the intent of certain gamers with how they want to be identified differently online in contrast to real life, and so out of their own twisted entertainment those people like to call them out on that sensitive fact to insult and isolate them. Personally, I don't really have an opinion on those types of gamers, as they are allowed to play any games they please for any personal intention that they have. That being said, I can't stand those types of people that purposefully go around stomping on that type of personal insensitivity as if they think it is some kind of twisted joke. At this point, people shouldn't have any right to judge the actions or intentions of others, because their business is their own and that should be respected. As gamers, we are a part of a community that accepts and respects one another because real life conflicts and controversy have no place in games. That fact alone should make it a safe community where people are free to play as whatever or whoever they wish, regardless of gender, sexuality, or otherwise.

Things are Getting a Little Witchy
This is an avatar that I’ve made in the past that I adore. Everyone who comes across me in IMVU knows there are two types of avatars I make. Pastel Goth and Rainbow Unicorn. I am the shinning light of every room with my random outgoing personality and troll like tendencies when needed in a situation. The entire outfit comes from KisaTheCutie. I highly recommend checking her store a lot of my items are from her. The hair is called ◮ Berry┊Gusrale by Ako. The skin I’m currently wearing can actually still be purchased and is called, 金. Sora Skin and 金. Onix Eyes by Meikin This is a nice change! the skin is seamless and beautiful and reminds me a lot of the skins I own from Ever who disabled their account a day after I mass bought a lot of her items. Who would’ve known? Most of the creators I’m listing are Korean and Japanese and enjoy the kawaii and pastel goth styles. I highly suggest looking into them if you’re looking for that style to customize your avatar’s appearance.
Until next time!

The Artist Tag by @morgynemberisagenderfluiddaddy
Rules: Show us a rendition of yourself in your own art! Can be anything! Sims render? Random stick figure? Picrew? Go nuts! (Just be sure to tag the artist if you use someone else’s picrew!!!!) Tag the blogs you want to know, and don’t be a dick that’s it! Also, feel free to answer as vague or in-depth as you want. And if you don’t want to answer a question for any reason just don’t vibe with it! Skip it if you wanna!
Thanks @bakersimmer for tagging me bb 💕
1. Do you prefer to be referred to by your name or blog name?
I really don't mind either. People call me lots of things (Mainly Divlly) so call me whatever you wish.
2. Where are you from?
USA, Utah.
3. Do you have pets? 👀
I have an English bulldog puppy.
4. Tell us about your “dream”.
My ultimate dream is to be an archeologist and travel the world with my future husband/wife and forcefully make my friends come along. (((:
However, because it would cost all of my organs and more to do that, my "reasonable" dream is to just have a career that I don't dread, a loving partner and (maybe???) family with a nice house and a studio or office for myself.
5. Aside from art, what are your hobbies?
Video games (obviously), Cooking, Paleontology and writing.
6. Does anyone irl know about your blog?
Nope.
7. Do you know anyone from your blog irl?
No, unfortunately.
8. What are some fun facts about you?
Other than what I've already stated about myself, I'm quite the collector. I have lots of figures and other small trinkets that I like to collect. Eventually, I want to have a big display case to display everything.
I love puzzles and working out my brain.
I'm an mmo addict degenerate.
9. What’s your day job?
Currently working towards becoming an Insurance CSR.
10. Do you have a celebrity look alike?
Nah.
11. What’s your aesthetic?
Goth, Punk, Fantasy, Metal, Snakes, Green. Idk, whatever that is put together lmao.
12. What kind of artist are you?
I mainly do traditional painting/drawing, but I dabble with digital when I want to challenge myself. Now, editing is something I'm starting to dabble into.
13. How did you get into your form of art?
I used to do avatar pictures for IMVU every once in awhile back in the day. Given, they were shit, but I still enjoyed doing so. Luckily, some of my techniques have stuck. Other than that, idk. I just do what I like.
14. What do you watch/listen/read/anything else while you create?
I mainly listen to music. The music depends on what type of piece I'm doing. Example, if I'm doing some editing on a sim, I listen to music that I think that sim would listen to. It helps me put together the overall aesthetic of the piece.
15. What is your favorite of your own creations so far?
Well I've only uploaded 1 thing so far, so I guess this.
16.) How would you describe your art style?
I don't think I could describe it. I like to attempt a lot of different styles but with my own taste.
17. What is more satisfying to you coloring or outlining?
Coloring 100%. Shading and coloring is my favorite part. Outlining can bite me. 🧛♀️
18.) What meme would you use to describe yourself?
youtube
19. What character from any media form do you most identify with?
Uh, I don't think I really relate to any character
20. If you were on the run, what would you change your name to?
Juniper Thorn
21. Have you ever or do you want to change blog names?
Many times. Not because I dislike it, but because it's taken on other platforms and I wanted to post things on instagram and things like that. I've tried changing it before, but nothing sticks like simdiv does.
22. God forbid Tumblr decides to pull a MySpace and lets us have page songs, what song would you choose?
Bitches Brew - ††† (Crosses)
23. Did you understand those references or did you have to look them up? (I’m fully aware I’m ancient, but are you?)
I understood them. Though I'm only 21, I had some older cousins and even a few younger friends my age that had it. My childhood best friends brother was MySpace famous. 😆 (I skipped the top 8 question)
25. One last question; why are you like that?
IDK MAN it's probably the trauma + me just not caring
I don't really know who to tag tbh so if you see this and like it, say I tagged you. 😘

Do you mind leaving an opinion on the outfit and overall pics?
I spend hours creating these unique IMVU avatars dressed in various outfits, poses and backdrops. I’ve been nervous about posting them, keeping this hobby a secret since 2017, and I’m finally ready to show you my creations.

IMVU is sort of a virtual world that was established in 2004 and was very popular at that time. It allows you to create 3D avatars in a fun and safe virtual world and that too for free. It is basically a multiplayer online video game that brings people together on an online platform.
At that time, the game had millions of accounts registered where people used to create 3D avatars, participate in games, chat with each other, and generate products in a safe and secure environment. IMVU allows you to make new friends or focus only on content creation.
Today there are more than 4 million registered users on IMVU. However, there are many other great games similar to IMVU where you’ll get a good social experience and avatar customization both.
If you’re looking for some of the best games like IMVU for PC, this review is for you.

About Patreon
In these days I thought about the Patreon and making other CCs situation, and realised that what works for me is not what I was hoping in the last post. I’m not the kind of creator of “small” CCs, I’m one that has inspiration just when making bigger, coherent projects. And when I was almost in defeat I realised I always had another “big” passion of mine, “street fashion” and fashion in general.
I know it may sound lame, but when I was younger (and definetly a day dreamer) I was “this close” to buy a decent camera just to go around the city and take pictures of people fashion choices (then I used to thought that I’m way too shy around people so I abandoned the project). That was also the reason I started playing the online game Stardoll (and Imvu and wanted TS3 so bad) at the time and have a folder with around 300 pics of avatars collected through the years.
All of this to say that I came to the conclusion I can make CCs based on single fashion pictures. In other words, I take a picture that inspires me (and that can be transformed into CCs) from google/fashion magazines/my stardoll folder/etc and recreate the outfit making inspired CCs that are Maxis Match/my style (no alpha) but that can also work separately (they have their own place in the diffuse map and work with TS4 categories, they won’t be working exclusively with the outfit as my Sets do). I’ve already donwloaded some street fashion pictures of different styles, my plan is to make an outfit (picture) per month, and from what I calculated from the images, it would be from 3 (hopefully 4) to 8 (hopefully not 9) CCs each time, based on the outfit.
---
For example:
This outfit will be Top, Pants, Shoes (which I have to look for something that matches) and some rings/bracelets/necklaces (to at least reach number 4). The hair and earrings will be from the game (if they are similar enough I see no point in wasting time making them). I won’t make any bag/purse/backpack because I want to stay within the game categories. I won’t do any makeup/skin detail (and probably tattoo) because I’m not able to. Regarding this particular outfit, the pants won’t have so many folds because I want them to be MM, but they will have a similar shape.
This one will have around 8 pieces: shoes, socks, skirt, top, hair (in EA colors with colorful highlights), hairclips (that will be in Hat or part of the hair if they fit), bracelet left and right (2 pieces), necklace (if I find something more MM or I’ll simply avoid it).
---
Despite the number of CCs, I will publish regularly the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th of the month in my Patreon for 1$/month (for example if they are four, one each day stated above; if they are 8, two/day), and each time I publish a new CCs on Patreon, I will release the previous one on S4S (available immediatly through SFS) and TSR (available after the site approval).
To avoid being late I will complete the outfit a month prior (for example, if I start in October, the complete outfit for that month will be ready at the end of September). Due to this I don’t know if creating a 2$/month tier for people who want all the CCs the 1st of the month.
About the swatches, I don’t know. There probably be 3/4 per item, I’m not very good at matching colors. This also made me think to share the clean template for recolors (something I usually don’t allow in my creations) for 1,5$/month but 1)I think people might consider it expensive, 2)I don’t know if Patreon allows “half $”. The other options were to make a poll on Patreon to let people decide the swatches but I don’t know how to show them or to look for sites that “tell colors that go well together”. Connected with the last option was to find colors that “match with the month theme” (that’s probably the best idea, sort of a “palette/month”).
There won’t be any changes on the way I publish the Miraculous CCs and the K/DA Sets. They won’t be part of the Patreon, but could be downloaded as soon as ready on TSR and S4S.

How do IMVU users make money creating content?
IMVU is "the world's largest 3D Chat and Dress-Up community." Launched in 2004, Instant Messaging Virtual Universe is simple in concept: Combine the social networking power of IM chat with a 3D virtual "universe."
Participants create elaborate new identities, called avatars, that give free rein to self-expression. As with other virtual communities, you can make friends among IMVU's millions of users.
But IMVU is much more than a 3D chat room: it's a real simulated world (or the real world, simulated). You can design, make, buy, and sell things like clothes and accessories, earn credit in IMVU's virtual economy, and get noticed.
It's a fun way to learn stuff like how to run a small business or market a product, too.
“Creationist capitalism” is a mode of capitalism in which labor is understood in terms of creativity, where production is understood as creation (Boellstorff 206). “The core of creationist capitalism is the idea of the self as a creator.
Workers aren’t just sellers of labor-power, but creators of their own worlds” (Boellstorff 209). IMVU is an online metaverse and website that uses 3D avatars to meet new people, chat, create and play games with friends (Wikipedia and IMVU).
The platform is backed by venture investors Menlo Ventures, Allegis Capital, Bridgescale Partners and Best Buy Capital. Focusing on the creation aspect, users can join the IMVU Creator program, which gives one the tools to get started.
Using a 2D paint program or a 3D program, you can design content such as outfits, stickers, poses, etc., that can be sold for developer tokens and converted to cash.
IMVU Creator Program (Source: http://www.imvu.com/creators/index.php) As mentioned above, IMVU enables any user to create content using external programs, though minimal guidelines must be met.
In IMVU, the political economy resides in the production of content that can be bought with in-game credits (bought with real money).
While for most online virtual worlds, in-game transactions allow for steady revenue — the content creation enables users to make money instead of spending like most casual users would.
To put the process in clearer terms, once a virtual object has been made, it’s placed in a virtual goods catalog for the public.
For each sale, the developer of said product will earn a specified amount, based on the value placed on that content. I’ve never actually took part in creating virtual goods for others, though I have bought some on other online communities.
IMVU is like Second Life
as both have identical features, but different variations of currency. Most online communities do not allow for content creation, just game developer products. IMVU has three types of currency for its economy:
credits, promo-credits, and developer tokens. “Promo-credits” are given to members by IMVU through time, as the rest are limited with the user.
Most online users prefer games that are free-to-play, though the downside is developers release goods that are very appealing and may result in users becoming pay-to-play players in turn.
Judging from past experiences of similar websites, I believe that people are still addicted to these type of “fashion” games and some users end up spending more (time and money) than they should.
