Opening oneself to Freyja in three easy steps

Or: three personal tips to help further one’s bond with Freyja!

1. Look inwards

Freyja’s main “domain” is very abstract: she generally (but not always!) manifests herself in powerful human feelings. She isn’t only the “Goddess of love”. She’s a master of the passage from life to death, just like Óðinn, and as such, can be linked to feelings of mourning and loss which she can soothe. She’s also skilled at the art of seiðr, meaning she’s also a symbol of embodying and mastering one’s power, not only through magic but also through many other means— any that work, really. After making this tight association between Freyja and human feeling, one’s natural reflex is to turn inward and meditate on one’s own feelings. What am I feeling right now? Why do I feel that way? Introspection is important when working with/worshipping any deity, but this is all the more true when it comes to Freyja. Ask yourself these questions: Can I say that I am grateful to Freyja in this or that situation? Could I call upon her for help, assistance or support? What can she help me with? You might say that the process of constantly trying to understand one’s feelings— analyzing them, is a way to establish a connection with Freyja. It is by understanding yourself that you can better grasp the workings of Freyja in your life. You may even start to notice that she’s intervened once or twice in your life before, without your noticing! Plus, you will start to see the areas where she could provide the most help. After all, as mentioned earlier, she doesn’t just help with matters of romance. Her domain stretches from self-love to love of family, friends, and even strangers! She can help you take ahold of your personal traits, the better and the worse, and accept them as yours, as part of a beautifully crafted whole. She can help you to both receive and give love. In my experience at least, opening up to Freyja means opening up to others. Not because the former requires the latter, but because Freyja can help you, little by little, to perceive and comprehend human feeling, which is an immense help when it comes to relationships with others.

2. Find enjoyment

Allow yourself to explore the intricacies of the human experience! Freyja’s followers will tell you that she’s very keen on providing them with joyous moments. She’s benevolent and wants nothing more than their happiness. Allow yourself to try new things, stuff you’ve always wanted to do! Notice what works out and what doesn’t, and don’t expect new activities to go right or wrong. Simply let yourself be surprised from time to time. This is another way of being in touch with your inner sentiments. It can be hard, of course, to motivate oneself to do crazy stuff like bungee jumping or traveling. That’s why I feel the need to specify: “finding enjoyment” doesn’t need to be that complex, and intense. It can be as simple as trying to cook something, picking up an old hobby, like drawing or painting or singing! Please yourself with something you’re curious, or nostalgic about! Moreover, you can even choose to simply rediscover certain habits, as simple as that may seem. Why not take another road than your usual walk home from work? Changing up one’s routine from time does wonders for the mood! Why not treat yourself to a little something, such as a book, a candle, etc… Anything that stirs up your emotion, even in the slightest, can help maintain a connection with Freyja on a tight schedule. Especially if you choose to devote this activity to her.

3. Spread and receive love

“Easier said than done!” Don’t worry, I hear you, and I know. Freyja knows as well. What’s most important for this step is to stand ready to receive affection, but also to take opportunities to spread a little love! You don’t need to be constantly in good spirits and doing everything you can to make others feel loved. On the contrary, adopting such a mindset can become a strain on one’s personal health. It is better to take opportunities as they come! So much is enough to Freyja. I don’t think she expects her followers to be models of absolute, constant, unconditional care! “Spreading love” can be as simple as holding the door for someone who’s walking with crutches, smiling at a stranger, messaging a friend or family member who you haven’t talked to in a while and asking about them. Such seemingly small gestures can have a considerable effect on someone’s mood. You never know if they’ve been having a bad day! Another important part of working with/worshipping Freyja is self-love, though you might have heard about this before. Why not learn to accept love, both from yourself and others, as a way to honor her? It can be difficult, and it’s an effort that can even be considered devotional. Many activities of self-care are considered devotional gestures!

Hong Kong has always been a favorite destination of tourists, especially of Filipino travelers, as it offers something for everyone--from attractions to food to shopping destinations.

“Hong Kong has always been close to the hearts of Filipino travelers and it is one of Philippines' top travel destinations of choice,” Hong Kong Tourism Board regional director of Southeast Asia Raymond Chan said during the "Marvels in Hong Kong" media event.

The pandemic put a pause on travel for the past two years, but with restrictions slowly easing up globally, tourists have a chance to visit Hong Kong again.

Hong Kong is a special administrative region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China. It comprises 200 islands located in Eastern Asia bordering the South China Sea and China. Much of Hong Kong's terrain is hilly to mountainous with steep slopes. The government system is a limited democracy; the chief of state is the president of China, and the head of government is the chief executive of Hong Kong. The Mass Transit Railway (known as the MTR) is the fastest and most convenient mode of transport in the urban areas. THE ENGINE.

located at the front of the train, the engine room provides all power to the train, and is driven by a team of engineers that rotate with shift patterns. day shifts require two engineers in control of the train, and at night, there's only one. cabins are located by the engine, with the lead engineer having their own small living area and bed in the side of the wall. the other engineers bunk together in a communal cabin.

FIRST CLASS.

first class have the most freedom, esteemed and prided on its luxury. it is comprised of old-world billionaires. they eat plentifully, with fine-dining and silver service, reproduce at will, and spend more time complaining about trivia than anything else. it contains all salvaged art from the old world, including van gogh's sunflowers series, the kiss by gustav klimpt, and the girl with the pearl earring by johannes vermeer. they have access to an aquarium and sushi bar, the hospitality car, the dining car, sauna, and bowling alley, along with other grand luxuries. during resource struggles, such as electricity, heat, and water, first are never implicated.

HOSPITALITY CAR.

the hospitality car contains an intercom where the head of hospitality can speak throughout the train. it is unclear if this sits in first or second class.

SECOND CLASS.

second class is comprised of skilled workers, and offers comfortable accommodation. it has its own hospital clinic cars and recovery rooms, and contains the twelve drawers cars, housing criminals suspended with a medicinal form of kronole (illicit drug). it was originally made so that if snowpiercer collapsed, four hundred pre-selected people could be suspended in sleep to give humanity a fighting chance in the future. this is a last resort. more recently, it's been used to inanimate criminals such as murderers. second class is rarely implicated in resource issues, and has enough food to sustain its passengers, without the luxuries offered to first class.

THE NIGHTCAR.

the night car sits in the last car in second class. it was originally deisgned by wilford as a brothel, but meIanie and miss audrey pushed for it to act as a place where people can come to terms with their trauma, grief, and agony following the freeze. it offers cabaert entertainment, hosts events such as fightnight, plays, concerts, and dances. the nightcar is often revered as switzerland, as it remains impartial to class struggles and allows people to move between second and third class.

THIRD CLASS.

third class makes up half of the train and accounts for 70% of the population. it houses industry, cargo, residential bunks for jackboots (militay) and brakemen (police), and supplies the train with its agricultural needs. it has butchers, farmers, and food processing stations within it. the residential section is small, valuing efficiency in its space. the mess hall car is open around the clock, and third class residents work three shifts of eight hours over night. classroom and utility cars are seen in third class. there is a hospital clinic in third class too. food processing and paper-making are located in the back of third, along with storage and cargo cars. the chains is a car for communal living. agriculture (ag-sec) contains the most important parts of the train: they grow crops using hydroponics, such as cotton, wheat, cocoa, berries, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and sugar cane. they have cars for pigs, goats, poultry, sheep, and cattle. they use every part of the animal, including the manure and methane, and harvest bovine cultures for scientific advancement and genetics testing. third is where protein bars are produced for the tail, which are protein-rich black jelly, mostly made of ground bugs and specifically cockroaches, which are then rationed out to the stowaways in the tail. aquaculture cars produce fish and seafood. fish waste is used as a fertiliser for the hydroponics. there is an apiary car (closed down after a bee colony collapse), and refrigeration car where the food is stored before distribution. the sanitation cars compost organic waste, such as corpses and manure, into fertiliser using bugs and worms. this is usually a job undertaken by people from the tail. when resources are tight, third suffer the effects of it, such as limited electricity and food rationing, despite housing the cars that make this possible for the rest of the train.

THE TAIL.

the tail contains mostly cargo cars. this is made up of stowaways that forced their way onto the train during departure, and are non-ticketed passengers. people from the tail, dubbed tailies, live solely in poverty, with their accommodations being likened to slums, and suffer hugely due to overcrowding and overpopulation. reproduction is not a right in the tail, and no tailies have been born in over five years. brakemen give the tailies rations in the form of protein bars, and they are extremely limited in terms of access. when resource issues come to light, the tail suffers the most, losing electricity, heat, food, and water, and are left to deal with the fallout themselves. deaths are common in the tail, and at any hint of rebellion, they are punished inhumanely.

My favorite design exercise was this:

"Describe a chair"

Everyone in the room describes a chair. Everyone agrees on it. 4 legs, a back, a seat. Then the professor shows one of those plastic S-shaped chairs. And goes, this has no legs is it a chair? And everyone goes well yes sure.

Then the professor shows a chair that is perfectly as described but: covered in spikes, 10x too large or small, made of flimsy material that you can't sit on, or the back is in the middle of the seat, or all the angles are weird and you can't sit on it.

And they go what about this? And they go no.

And then the professor shows a ton of other chairs that all break the definition but are easier to sit on than the ones that match the definition: a big rock, a chair with 3 legs, a chair with no back, on and on.

Eventually you end the discussion with the realization that humans really like to categorize things, and it can help, but it's not always right, and when we stick to definitions, we end up designing bad products, boring products, and we ignore other choices that work well and people would like.

Biologically, categorizing things helps with threat detection. Technically speaking your hippocampus, amygdala, a few other parts of your brain that handle threat detection fire off before your prefrontal cortex (where you have conscious thought.)

What this means is that you often will sit in a chair, and if you suddenly notice there's a huge spike on it, you'll stand up really fast so you don't shove it up your ass.

Your brain is subconsciously going "chair" "sit" "SPIKE! STAND UP". You're don't walk into the room, look at all the furniture, analyze the characteristics and predetermine what is and isn't a chair, or a TV, or whatever.

The reason for that is evolutionary. Your brain runs on a similar amount of power to a lightbulb. We have one of the most complex and powerful brains in the biosphere and yet we can run it on like 1500 or less calories a day.

We have evolved to efficiently make survival decisions and a big part of this is categorization and prediction.

The prefrontal cortex is the newest part of the brain and the least efficient. Lots of difficult thinking can actually drain you for the day, might require a little extra sugar intake for recovery (which was hard to find back in the day,) and often you can really only do it for a handful of hours before you're super burnt out and living in stupidsville. Many productivity experts think most people have about 4-6 productive hours in them per day, especially when it comes to knowledge work. They also believe that multitasking drains your mental bandwidth faster.

The point is, don't use the prefrontal cortex often if you want to evolve a super efficient biological survival brain. Instead use it enough to categorize and store things for later so that you can make subconscious predictions about them.

However, when you're not surviving, you can see that those predictions are what we would call accurate enough. They apply well enough for enough situations, but if we want to expand that definition, do things like social science, engineering, politics, art, music, math, hard science, teaching and education, we start to need to work outside of our survival brain.

You can kind of see, from this paradigm, why people get scared of things that don't fit their definition. They're obviously being stupid, but... and a very important but... they're operating off of the same basic wiring everyone else is.

The things that help people expand outside of these simplistic understandings are generally: not being in survival mode (like not watching scary propaganda or living in poverty or war or living without access to healthcare food or housing,) being surrounded by a community that supports different ways of thought (usually areas with social diversity, areas with progressive or no religion,) access to education, and some intrinsic desire to learn new things (which not everyone has.)

I think no matter what part of society people come from, they are capable of prejudice because of this, and they are also capable of overcoming prejudice because of this, but it starts with recognizing the issue and choosing to change.

It is Tuesday the 7th of January 2025 on planet Earth.

I just got back from the Spear Rhinoceros wild sanctuary realizing I left my wallet in El Segundo. When yesterday I spent most of the day at the Religious Cafe next to a nice person who was a worker for a good organization and does jump out of planes. Her named reminded me of my friend that is a match maker.

Then I went to the park, or before that I mean, and this other person an older lady had a dog that reminded me of a demon from hell. She said some really mean things to me and tried to manipulate me and scare me. I was nice to her but I don't understand why people are so manipulative? What is their goal or purpose? What can't people on thisnplanet just be honest and direct?

I don't know if I will ever uncover the truth behind that question but it is very concerning.

At the dog park I met a nice person from Poland, Bulgaria and somewhere else too until that one pushy lady who was in the big dog area came around with a tiny dog. Don't people know there are big dogs there that can just actually not be controlled and would maybe just act out?

She mentioned Garden Grove and New Jersey and talked about how her son is a stalker. That energy is just really gross to me.

At Coffee Religion Celeste was really nice to this person next to me and the coffee shop even handed out free 🍎 and cheese bread with honey that reminded me of home like Walker Bros.
