au in which eight years old Bradley asks Ice, now uncle even if sometimes he gets called dad, why he never screams when he's angry. Susan's mom screams all the time and Tim's dad only when he's really really angry. What Ice answers is that 'people scream when they want to be heard but don't know how to talk normally and they end up hurting other people.'
("Easy for you to say. No wife. No kids. Nobody to mourn you when you burn.")
That 'sometimes, they end up whispering the meanest things because they don't have in them to scream anymore'.
("My dad believed in you. I'm not going to make the same mistake.")
'And by then, there's nothing to be done because you talked and you have to fix things and it's not always possibile'.
("Dagger 1 is hit!")
'So, baby goose, I don't like to scream even when I'm angry, even if it's difficult, because sometimes taking a deep breath and a couple of step around the room will solve the situation faster than any screaming match'.
("Repeat! Dagge 1 is hit!")

my personal favorite highlights from the official top gun: maverick script:
meek engineer's name is simon and is dating someone at the pentagon which is how they found out about the drone ranger coming to shut the darkstar project down
"That's...blue sky up there, Mav." "Yeah, but dark blue. Ominous."
mav also called darkstar 'angel' and 'girl' which i'm glad they cut otherwise i would have died in the theater then and there
"Hondo stares at his monitor. He knows his friend well." đ„șđ„șđ„ș
"y'all built one hell of a plane" oh mav â€ïž
"For anyone unfamiliar, itâs obvious there is story here - Glory and ghosts." g o d
admiral's aide do you MIND he's having a MOMENT
warlock is described as "an affable, brilliant two-star" hell yeah
i personally think it's hilarious that cyclone was apparently top of his class in '88 but in the script he's in his forties?? even if he's 49 the film takes place in 2019?? that would make him 18 in 1988?? mr mcquarrie sir the math ain't mathing
"Maverick has had about enough of this shit" if that doesn't just sum up both movies
as a macheresin shipper the fact that hangman and coyote were planned as besties from the get-go,,,,,,,my heart is Full
"sorry i couldn't be there" oh ice đ„șđ„șđ„ș
mcq's love for casablanca continues to shine through
penny's dad is alive and retired and still hates mav
"Keepinâ it tight, I see, Phoenix" hangman is such an ASSHOLE i HATE him (affectionate)
bob's description is "human wallpaper" i am DYING
"shit, that's fritz" i DEMAND to know why fritz's arrival elicited that reaction from fanboy!! show me the fritz&b-team daggers cut!!
"Maverick sees a ghost. From this angle, the kid is a dead ringer for Goose, just as gawky and gangly, loving life." and what if i Bawled
MAVERICK REQUESTED HONDO SPECIFICALLY
HONDO WAS GONNA MEET UP WITH A LADY IN RENO WHO IS 'AN ACROBAT' AND 'VERY FLEXIBLE'
"I need at least one person on my side here" MAV
"I'll stand somewhere else" HONDO
mav originally ran the entire class through the contents of the F-18 NATOPS đđđ
in the original script rooster gave hangman his callsign...personally gonna stick with the headcanon that phoenix (if it had to be one of the daggers) was the one who gave it to him, but Very Interesting nonetheless.
rooster calls phoenix 'fee' brb peppering this into All my fics
PHOENIX IS THE MAV OF THE MOVIE CONFIRMED
I DEMAND TO KNOW IF THERE IS FOOTAGE OF GLEN POWELL SINGING 'HOT FOR TEACHER'
genuinely cannot believe mcq wrote this. he is on galaxy tier levels of thinking i could never even hope to reach.
rooster being protective of phoenix you know that's right
theo the yellow lab was originally named "t" in the script,,,,,,,,t for tony scott,,,,,,,,,
"You're a warrior, Ice. A fighter." bury me ALIVE
"(Note: Important we include PILOT POV establishing gray-out in the lead up to G-LOCK)" this script is tighter than a snare drum
"Kinda like your ass depended on it" GET HIS ASS MAV
phoenix and bob refuse to even IMPLY that mav was in any way at fault for them having to eject,,,,,,,,they are Ride Or Die
as a warlock/hondo shipper i am also Delighted they actually got some screentime together
MAV WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE THE EULOGY AT ICE'S FUNERAL đđđđđ
mav and hangman were apparently supposed to talk after mav chose hangman as his wingman but i'm glad that scene got cut because a) showing vs telling and b) hangman is Not emotionally aware or mature enough to say what he says here out loud and you can't convince me otherwise
"Hondo stares at him. Maverick stares back. Something unspoken passes between the two men." and mavhondo shippers everywhere rejoiced
"HONDO squeezes his fist tightly, feeling something crack. He opens his hand to see the crystal of his stopwatch is crushed, the second hand frozen. An omen." HEY MCQ WHAT THE FUCK
"CLOSE ON Hondo, reflecting on his last moment with Mav." see above
"How we gonna get this bagâa ass in the air?" "Just hang on. Cause this bagâa ass is about to go ballistic."
"Rough Rider, this is, uh...Ghost Rider" *cries in callbacks*
"The minute Hangman touches down, pull the trip wires and have the barricade stanchions ready." (silence) "HE DOESN'T HAVE A GODDAMN TAILHOOK." (OH SHIT FUCK OKAY RUNNING NOW)
lowkey like the parallel between cyclone nodding at mav and hangman and rooster shaking hands. they still don't like each other, but they respect each other a little more now. as the script says, that's enough.
"Among the pictures is one of Goose and Maverick in the bloom of their youth - their whole lives ahead of them." đđđđđ
WE WERE ROBBED OF PHOENIX JOINING ROOSTER AND PENNY AND AMELIA AND MAV AT THE HANGAR I REPEAT WE WERE R O B B E D
"TIME CUT as Phoenix holds two model planes, demonstrating air to-air combat to a very interested Amelia." ooooh amelia has a cruuuuuush
"Rooster turns, looks at the make-shift family taking shape in this makeshift homeâŠAnd he smiles." đđđđđ
#top gun: maverick#icemav#maverick mitchell#iceman kazansky#mavhondo#hondo coleman#warlock bates#hangman seresin#phoenix x rooster#brace#all the cuts and rewrites were definitely for the best but this is a solid script if i ever saw one#mcq deserves the oscar for the 'hot for teacher' line alone

5. Slider and Goose set them up
Anything for you doomsday :)
Prompt #5: Set Up
cw: swearing, implied sex
ââ
âSli, they did it again.â
âOh god. At least let me get drunk first.â
âIt was like a full-ass eyefuck, too. Ice was all up in his face ân shit, snapped his teeth. If this keeps happening, I might throw up.â Goose flopped down on the sofa next to Slider, drinks in hand.Â
Slider sighed and took a swig. âMaybe we should lock âem in a room together till they either kill each other or fuck.â
Goose laughs loudly. âYou know, I think you're onto something here.â
Slider turns to Goose, deadpan. âI was only half-joking, Nick.â
Oh shit, what had he gotten himself into.
âââ
âIce, you gotta come see this thing I found.âÂ
âWhat is it, Sli, another plaque?â
âWell, it's in this classroom.â
Ice sighed and followed him up the stairs. Why they hadn't taken the elevator, Ice didn't know. Maybe Sli wanted exercise or something.Â
Ice trailed Slider as he led him into a small classroom. âWhat the fuck is so interesting that it needed to be hidden away?â
âYou'll see.â Slider chuckled and opened the door for Ice.
The room was just another classroom⊠There was nothing special about this room. What the hell?
âSli, whatâ?â
âYou two need to figure your shit out.â
Ice turned to see Maverick barreled through the door. He saw that Goose and Slider were standing outside the door as it closed. The lock clicked. Footsteps growing more distant.
âWhat the fuck is going on?â
âTo hell if I know, Maverick.â
âThis wasn't one of your schemes? That's a first, the Iceman himself surprised.â
Ice scoffed and turned toward the roomâs window, even though the blinds were closed. âI don't know what your problem is, but it's clearly not my fault our RIOs locked us in a room.â
He turned back to Mav, who stared at him. âWhat?â
Mav crossed the room in a flash, eyes flaring. Ice doesn't do anything till Mav shoves him, hard.Â
âWhat the fuck, Mav?â
âYou're such a dick.â Mav tries to shove him again, but Ice catches him and holds his shirt.Â
Ice snaps his teeth. âAnd you're a brat. You think you can get whatever you want because you're sexy.â
They're so close. Both flushed and panting, adrenaline pumping, Mav moves again and Ice thinks he's gonna punch him, but Mav just kisses him right on the lips. There's no softness, it's all teeth and tongue. A fight for dominance.
Alright, if the bastard wants a battle, then a battle he'll get.
Ice leans down and grabs Maverick's thighs, hard enough to leave a bruise. He picks up Mav easily. Mav hooks his legs against Iceâs waist quickly, pushing his lips against Ice ravenously.Â
âââ
âCome on, man it's been 20 minutes, don't you think we should go check on them?â
âDo we gotta? I kinda like this âpeace and quietâ thing.â
Goose begins to pace, worried. âBut what if they actually did kill each other?â
âChill, Mother Goose, weâll go. Just give âem a little bit.â
âNope, I'm going now.â
âFine. God, Goose, you're so dramatic.â
They walk down the hallway to the locked classroom, nervous. It's dead silent. Slider unlocks and opens the door. Ice and Mav are sitting on the floor, rumpled, flushed, and tired. They're grinning like idiots at each other.Â
âY'all good?â Slider is smirking.
âYeah, bitch, real good.â Mav glances at Slider and Goose before getting lost in Ice's eyes again.
âOh my god, did you guysâ?â Goose pales.
âYour fault.â Ice looks dazed.
âHowââ
âY'all are the ones who locked us in here.âÂ
âWe didn't expect you two to fuck like horny teenagers!â
Ice laughs at that. âHave you met Pete?â
Pete turns, offended. âYou were the one that called me sexy!â
Slider sighs. âOh my god if you two start fight again, I'm locking you in here over the weekend.â
 âNo!â
ââ

His Name Was Bradley | A Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell One-shot
TW: Mentions of death, implied self sacrifice, the feeling of seeing a dead body (It's not graphic, but Maverick see's his body and it get's mentioned a couple times,) and mourning loved ones.
Summary: Maverick thinks of what could've been if he was the one who could've died up there. Yet, now he was standing in front of the grave of a man he thought wouldn't die till years later.
Words: 1500 (BIG ONE LETS GO)
(Tags, read at your own risk if you really want to: @bayisdying, @notyoursbutlewis, @viothewolx, @callmemana)
âCan you believe itâs been five years?â That question was ringing in his ears, had it really been five years since that time?
It felt like just yesterday they were both inside that F-14 flying like hell to get back home. Maverick was sitting in the hard deck while Penny was talking about the past, he wasnât paying attention.Â
His eyes were on the dusty piano, the piano that hadnât been played in five years as it had the carvings of lyrics in the wood from the comrades of the dead boy.Â
He had died that day, the day they were fighting for a way back home.Â
Everything was fake.
The boy was never there with him during that whole F-14 fight.Â
He never got to tell him what he wanted to talk about.Â
He had saved Mavericks life and died in a fiery hell.Â
He wished for something to tell him everything was going to be alright, but that never came.Â
No one cared to ask Maverick how it affected him,Â
He had grabbed the helmet and snapped off the dog tags off the boyâs body. He couldnât cry, he was too deep in grief to just stand there in that snowy escape and allow sour tears of failure hit his damaged and peaceful body.Â
He remembers the funeral, the second one he had to do that year.Â
The lieutenantâs surrounding Maverick in a big hug, he could always remember what Phoenix told him before she took off to her next squadron.
âItâll get better.â She had a small smile, even after all the tears she had shed for her dear friend.
She somehow found the happiness that Maverick couldnât even get a grasp on.
There had been nights when he stood out on the front steps of Pennyâs house, just staring out to the ocean coated in a clear paint of moonlight. He felt like he failed.Â
He failed Carole
He failed Goose
He failed IceÂ
Who else could he fail? He had one task.
Bring everyone home.Â
He couldnât even do that right, was his whole life just a bunch of mistakes that ended on a good note? He couldnât tell, he couldnât even understand what he did wrong.Â
Why did the kid do that to himself? He knew the outcome, he knew that Maverick did that so he could live on, itâs all his dad wouldâve wanted.Â
But instead Maverick was the one who had to sit and stare at still photos of his old friends, his old wingmen.Â
He remembered the day the kid showed him how to wear a cowboy hat properly after Goose had been going on and on about their Tennessee genes.Â
He never grew up to have such a thick accent as his dad, he never even had a chance to grow up past thirty-two.
Oh, how Maverick had to pick him up and swing him around just to get the lad to cheer up and have a wide smile on his face.Â
The night when Goose looked Maverick dead in his eyes and told him he was going to be a God parent was a night that was unforgettable.Â
The first time Maverick had cried was when he held the kid.
The second time was when he had to bury his dear friend.Â
The third time was when Carole broke down in front of him.
The fourth was when she passed right there in his arms in that hospital bed, the beeps of the heart monitor slowly fading and nothing else felt real anymore.Â
The fifth time never came.Â
Crying felt guilty, he had one simple task. He failed to do everything that involved that task.Â
Nobody blamed Maverick though, it was the kidâs choice to put his life on the line.
But Maverick couldnât think about his choice, he could only think about the promise that Carole had told him just moments before she died.Â
âDonât let him fly, Mav. Not after what happened to Goose.â
She had asked him one stupid request that ruined everything, and the kid had to go out of his way to kill himself.Â
Just because Maverick had put himself in danger in good olâ Maverick fashion.Â
He knew Goose wouldâve done the same thing.Â
They were related, from the edge of their mustaches to the sound of their voices.
You couldnât go anywhere without them.
Thatâs why he felt like he was held accountable for this.
The image of his lifeless body, the way Maverick bit his lip till it bled to stop himself from shedding a single tear.Â
He didnât want to leave him.
He didnât want to let go of his friend a second time.Â
He was trusted with the blonde.
But he couldnât do it.Â
He gave him an honorable goodbye.Â
He was the whole reason the mission was successful.Â
But it didnât feel successful, everyone was off after that day.
Hangman, Phoenix and Coyote continued with their training, while the others hung back a bit to help Maverick around and keep him in better spirits.Â
He remembered the look on Bobâs face when he was telling him all about the way he used to fly with Iceman.Â
The way that everyone seemed to act like a team as they were making a small memory of the boy.Â
The photos pinned in his favorite reading spot, a small memory of the red helmet right next to his fatherâs.Â
He wasnât supposed to go that soon.Â
But everyone knew he did it for a better future.Â
Everyone except Maverick.Â
There was no better future without him.Â
Without him and his father.
He had no one else.
Goose was always the one that made Maverick feel included, he was quite the shy and spunky guy. Everyone seemed to judge him before they spoke to him.
Goose was always able to get them to know Maverick though.Â
So, after Goose died.. Maverick didnât know how to communicate like him.Â
It was sort of like he lost part of his character.Â
But soon, his son started to fill that void.Â
It was a slow filling of the vase.Â
They were huge shoes to fill.
From the nights the kid would run around Mavericks hangar with his fatherâs helmet on.
To the days where they sat outside on the beach behind the hard deck talking about their differences.Â
He was no different from his dad.Â
He filled those shoes with no problem.
Thatâs why Maverick blamed himself.Â
Everytime he looked at him.. he saw his father in those brown eyes.Â
They always looked so hollow, so full of ideas.. like there were so many things going through the boyâs head at once.Â
It was just like Goose.Â
Just like the person that shouldâve been there to raise him.
Now, Maverick had to replace the beautiful flowers on three graves instead of two.
The bradshaw name was gone.
It had shattered the day he lost him.
The day he broke his promise on so many accounts.Â
âIt wasnât your fault, Mav.â
He could hear Penny repeating the same lines over and over in his head as he reached out and grabbed the cup of beer in front of him.
It never tasted the same as the night he watched the boy play piano just like his father.Â
The day he was thrown out by his lieutenantâs who barely knew his name.
He could remember the days he stood in front of his grave and just asked him why.
Like he was expecting some sort of answer.Â
Some sort of being to pop out of the ground and tell him the answer to this one and simple issue.Â
Penny always said it was because he loved him.
He was like a father figure to the kid, he couldnât say anything else but that.Â
It had to be him.. out of all people to raise his bestfriends son.Â
It wasnât Goose
It wasnât Carole
But it was Maverick
The recluse everyone thought wouldnât last long in a plane with all his fly-byâs and lack of authority. He was a Maverick, nobody could control his high-strung ego.Â
That was unless it was Goose.Â
The boy had his fatherâs talents too.
They both could tame the bull by its horns.Â
But now there was no one to do that anymore.Â
So the man spiraled.
He couldnât feel anything in his finger tips.Â
But all he could say,
All he could remember when he would tell people about this story.
The story of emotionsÂ
A family nameÂ
A musically talented man
And a son that followed in his fatherâs footsteps no matter how much his mother hated his mustache.Â
Was that
His name was Bradley.
