Well, I mean, everyone here has “like” liked Courtney at one point right? It wouldn’t be fair to single me out, when Heather, Duncan, Alejandro, Justin, Bridgette and like sooo many others liked her like that too, yeah- (Cody: I didn’t have a crush on her. I decided to go through the art and fanfics I’ve posted so far as well as look at my notes for the fics I’m currently writing or plan to write and sorted all the Total Drama characters based on how often they appear so far as well as which ones I’m currently planning to have appear in my fics. For the top four tiers I only counted when the characters are actually drawn in art or interacted with directly in my stories rather than just mentioned or implied.

Attention hog should need absolutely no explanation if you see what I normally post! Alejandro and Courtney also appear pretty damn often, either on their own or in shipping fics and art that more often than not involve Duncan.

The remainder of my favourite characters, and Bridgette who’s also pretty high up my list, sometimes appear in my work. Usually it tends to be Crimsennui, Heather as part of Heathney, and Scott as part of Scottney.

DJ, Geoff, Gwen, Justin, and Pete have appeared in one fic or art piece each. DJ and Geoff are far more likely to appear in future works however Justin is planned to be featured somewhat prominently in my TDI rewrite.

All characters in the next two tiers will be appearing in my TDI rewrite however those in the higher tier are also planned to be in some of my other fanfictions (primarily AUs) that I’m currently working on, there’s no guarantee they’ll be in the final works though.

Pretty much every remaining character from the bottom tier I don’t have plans for although there are some I’m more likely to include in some future work. Brody, Dakota, Gerry, and Tom have all been mentioned or alluded to being in previous fics but weren’t explicitly written about.

As the CEO of Heathney, what is the appeal of it?

HI okay so first off, i’m honored to be considered the ceo of heathney omfg. second off i literally nearly wrote an essay on heathney the other day but didn’t post it, but if ur asking i will try to explain why i like it :)

okay so a big part of it for me is i feel like throughout the series, there’s this respect that each of them holds for the other? they’re both super competitive people, and they take total drama very seriously. while they’re both aiming for the money, neither of them joined total drama because of it. courtney joined to prove that she could “win at life”, and heather joined to practice for her future goal of ruling europe. (these are both in the tdi bios). anyway, for both of them, winning total drama is a symbol of their overall life goals, and i feel like that makes the respect that they show each other mean more? because winning is so personal for each of them, it means more when they genuinely respect one of their competitors. like there’s that one post that i reblogged about the scene in tdi where courtney and heather are in the infirmary together, and courtney asks where they are, and heather just tells her with no insults involved. i feel like there were a handful of moments like that throughout the series, subtly blink-and-you’ll-miss-it type stuff that implies a mutual respect.

i will be the first to say that i enjoy ships where the characters butt heads a bit. duncney is my second favorite td ship for that reason lmao. in spite of the respect they have for each other, there’s a bit of friction between the two that’s seen, particularly at the end of world tour. it’s just the normal “two headstrong people sometimes have opposing goals so they argue a bit” type stuff, nothing that veers into straight up animosity. it feels a little similar to tdi duncney’s dynamic, and adds to a similar feeling of chemistry.

then there’s scenes like heather comforting courtney after the whole duncan and gwen fiasco, that time they bully blaineley at the end of blaineriffic, etc. idk they’re just cute 🥺 and it shows that they have the potential to get along, and that, on some level, heather cares enough about courtney to console her.

and then there’s another thing they have in common with duncney- they both are a) kind of seen as unlikeable by a lot of their peers and b) seemed to have been pretty isolated. they’re both characters who sink into their “stereotypes” almost like a shield, and i just. i love when two characters who do that let their guard down for each other. not to continue to bring up tdi duncney in my heathney explanation, but it’s kind of similar to how duncan allowed himself to be seen as “nice” around courtney, and courtney allowed herself to be seen as something other than “perfect”. heather is seen as mean, and while she doesn’t like it, it’s something she feels stuck in for a long time. you see it in the tdi special when she tells harold that she doesn’t like to be the girl everyone hates, and you see it at the end of tdwt when she has such a strong reaction to cody calling her the good guy. just like courtney and duncan (and honestly, a lot of the contestants), she’s using her identity as “the mean girl” as a shield because it’s easier than trying to be something else and failing. and i just. love the idea of her letting her guard down around courtney, and courtney in turn allowing herself to show imperfections.

also i’m bi and i love women. that is also part of it.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

Some of the things I’ve written have definitely drawn on emotions and experiences from my personal life. Scrolling through some of the work I’ve posted I can find a few prominent examples that stand out to me.

Day 2 of Aleduncan Week immediately comes to mind. The idea of that work was for Duncan to be detached from the LGBT+ community as well as having implied internalised homophobia. I distinctly remember feeling as though being out as LGB was a bad thing when I was a preteen, I also had a lot of internalised transphobia that I refused to address until after I started my first relationship in my late teens where I finally felt forced to come out. Duncan’s evaluation of his feelings (well, lack thereof) towards Courtney and Gwen is also reminiscent of my own struggle to identify exactly what I’m feeling towards others, I struggle a great deal to differentiate between platonic, romantic, and sexual love and often don’t realise what it was I’ve been feeling until things are too late and I’ve acted incorrectly. Alejandro’s short speech about the treatment of LGBT+ contestants on Total Drama also reflects some of my own resentment at not being able to see accurate or positive representation in media as well as my disappointment with people in my life who have either refused or still refuse to acknowledge my identity.

A lot of the articles I write for Humanistically Speaking talk about my personal experiences, normally I write about current events and problems however for my last article that was written for the February issue I gave an overview of my LGBT+ journey throughout the years for LGBT+ History Month (it takes place in February in the UK). I also had a few mini sagas and poems published during my teen years, not all of them have been uploaded to Tumblr but one in particular ‘Sea of Tranquillity’ that I did post on my blog is all about my thoughts and feelings during surfing therapy and how thankful I was for the volunteers that ran the program.

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?

Hoo boy, what don’t I want people to write? 

Aleduncan Week flopped a bit because the people who were going to take part weren’t able to (myself included) so a lot of the prompts that everyone voted for still don’t have any content written for them. I still have the half finished Fears/Guilty Pleasure fic on my old laptop to complete and post but haven’t yet started on Date Night/Double Date and Family/Wedding. I’d still love to see people write stuff for the prompts if they’d like to, I will never stop reblogging all the amazing content people make. 

I was also taking part in TDWRiMo and wasn’t able to finish weeks 4 and 5, the idea for 4 is still bullet pointed on my old laptop but isn’t properly started. I also have the notes for my Love and Friendship Week prompts but again none of them have been started. I did also have an idea for a TDWT AU where Aleduncan are pretending to have crushes instead of just working together regularly but seeing as I skipped TDWT I’m going to have to do a lot of research or just plain disregard canon if I want to write that one, there’s likely many other writers who could do a better job with that idea than me.

I’ve been trying to branch out with the stuff I’m creating recently seeing as I tend to default back to doing the same sort of stuff over and over (at least in my opinion). As much as I love Duncney I see content for them all the time since they’re a popular canon ship, I seem to be making Aleduncan content the most however that’s because it doesn’t really pop up on my feed at all unless I ask people to post stuff which I feel guilty doing. I posted some sketches a few days ago with Scottney/Scourtney, Jock, and Crimsennui as they’re some of my other OTPs but I don’t see any content for them either; Jock seems to have fizzled out now that there’s a new Jo crackship, people generally dislike Scott and Courtney as a pairing, and I haven’t come across anyone that posts stuff for the goths. I have some Heathney and Bridgney drabbles planned since both pairings are growing on me, I don’t see much content for them but the stuff I have seen has been nice. Any of the ships I’ve mentioned here I’d love to see people write or make art for!
