Photos from the start of the Ivakkak 2021 sled dog race.

Weather was poor leading up to the first day so they had to delay several times. The first leg was a trek of about 60km.

Currently the weather was so concerning with high winds and low visibility that after the second day the race officials decided to ferry all teams by skidoo to Ivujivik for safety. All teams arrived safely. 

Something that is unique about the Ivakkak race is the presence of both a “musher” and a “partner”. Both are on the sled and have duties along the race, although the musher is the one driving the dogs.
