E ti chiedi come sia possibile che qualcosa che non puoi toccare, vedere, sentire possa essere molto più presente del tuo stesso respiro...

It’s been a tough year. Not just for me & my family, but for so many. Today I found out my painting was chosen as a semi-finalist in the #dougmoranportraitprize2022. When I painted it early this year it was titled “We are still here”. Now it is called “and then you were gone”. It’s still a #portrait of my mother, but how to express a whole life in one image? How to describe pain, fragility & incredible strength? How can I show the depth of my love? Our love. This was the best I could do. When I saw the email I burst into tears & they continue to roll down my cheeks as I type this, not just for us, but for everyone who knows exactly what I am saying. The pain is the exact size & shape as the person who used to fill that space, it is love, but with no person left to pour it into. I'm on the way to my beautiful Mum's funeral - Mum called me her "little chatterbox" even on her last day. I so miss chatting to her and buying her gluten free food. Fortunately I was able to see her all through the Covid ring of steel between Geelong and Melbourne as Paul and I used to help with her caregiving once a week. I love you Mum - I hope you love the video I made you - I felt it in my heart. I'll put it on my IGTV to share after my family has seen it.
