Requested 📨 yes/no (rules for requests)
Premise: In which Baron Helmut Zemo, hater of the Avengers and desire to rid the planet of enhanced beings, becomes a member of the antihero team led by General Thaddeus Ross & CIA Director Valentina Fontaine where he meets the legendary group of misfits turned Guardians of the freakin Galaxy and loses his heart to a Goddess with a love for 80s music and talent for cutting of limbs.
Note: GOTG Vol 3 has permanently altered my brain chemistry and I cannot stop thinking about it. Truly the best film since Endgame & it’s inspired me cause I’m also back to loving Zemo again. I refuse to believe Marvel would give us a Thunderbolts film w/o Zemo so I will make sure he’s in this team.
After learning about all the Gods in Thor: Love & Thunder, picture you are Minerva, the Roman Goddess of Wisdom & War (Roman equivalent to the Greek’s Athena) and has cosmic powers similar to the Eternal’s Thena and has been with the Guardians since the events of the first GOTG film.
————————
Fall 2023
“I don’t see why we need these people to help us,” Zemo rolled his eyes, strolling beside General Ross with the rest of the team around them. Once outside the cool breeze hit him, ruffling the lapels of his coat as his eyes squinted from the bright light.
Ross lets out a tired sigh, “Because, Zemo, as much as it galls me to admit it this threat is far beyond what we can deal with. It’s not terrestrial and chances are these…” he had trouble coming up with the word, “let’s just say they’re more experienced for this situation.”
They all stop before the flight line. It’s clear all around them with no sign of an approaching vessel.
“Who are these guys again?” Justin Hammer popped some jelly beans in his mouth. John looks down at the file in his hands, making a face as he does.
“They call themselves…The Guardians of the Galaxy.”
“Oh God,” Bucky moans, immediately making mental notes to protect his mental arm knowing a certain talking animal was on the hunt for it. He was gonna have to sleep with one eye open.
Zemo raises his brow, “Friends of yours, James?” Bucky is not pleased by the assumption.
“I wouldn’t call them that.”
“Aren’t they part of the Avengers?” Ava’s tone is slightly disapproving. While Scott Lang and the Pym/Van Dyne’s helped her, she still got bad rep despite doing what she did to survive.
Zemo, not happy with the idea of working with Avengers, snatches the file from Walker.
“Not technically,” Ross replies while Zemo reads over the page. “They arrived with Thor in 2018 against the first battle with Thanos, remained an associate to the team while continuing whatever the hell it is they do in space, and returned in 2023 to defeat the purple bastard once and for all.”
“Did you fight with them, Bucky?” Yelena asks from beside the soldier.
“Yeah,” the memory appears in his mind. Specifically where he grabbed Rocket by the scruff and spun them in circles to cover more area as they fired off their guns. “Our interactions were brief…but memorable.”
The Baron had seen many things over the years, like the rest of humanity with the formation of the Avengers and reveal of intergalactic and enhanced beings, but to stay he wasn’t thinking, ‘what the fuck?’ by the picture in front of him would be a lie.
An earthling turned ravager, a blue mercenary, a woman with antennas, a genetically engineered raccoon, a living tree, a gray alien that could take down Thor, a man with a metal Mohawk, a telekinetic dog, and an exiled sword wielding Goddess. All misfits and outcasts, mostly space criminals turned superhero guardians of the cosmos.
Well….they were quite the bunch.
“They are not still with the Avengers, I take it?” Zemo wanders around, eyes lingering on the Goddess. White streaks adorned her natural hair color, eyes gold and lips painted with what appeared to be a permanent smirk. She wore a gold and white headpiece that had an owl extending its wings.
Name/Alias: Minerva, Goddess of War; Race: Deity; Planet of Origin: Caelum; Age: approx. 2500 yrs (39 Earth yrs); Occupation: Warrior/Mercenary/Defender of the Andromeda Galaxy; Allegiance: The High Council of Caelum (formerly), Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, God of Thunder, The Avengers (formerly); Abilities: Cosmic manipulation, enhanced strength, agility, speed, & durability, thermal detection & mental teleportation; Specialization: artillery and battle strategy.
Ross let out a sigh, “only when the planet is about to go to shit due to an intergalactic threat. Which we’ve now got on our hands, but considering the Avengers are all on sabbatical I’m sending you in,” he checks his watch, “but I need all the extra hands and like I said, they’re experienced.”
Zemo stares at the blank sky, “How will we know they've arrived?”
“Believe me,” Ross mutters under his breath. “You’ll know.”
A loud rumbling noise caught everyone’s attention, gazes turning upward as a hexagon shaped breech in the sky revealed a very large spaceship in its wake, followed by the distinct lyrics of AC/DC’s ‘Back to Black.’
“Back in black. I hit the sack. I’ve been too long, I’m glad to be back. Yes, I’m let loose. From the noose. That’s kept me hanging about.”
“Oh my,” Yelena breathed out, hair flying back from the gust of wind. Zemo lifted a hand to cover his face from the leaves, as did the others, many wide eyed.
“I’ve been looking at the sky. ‘Cause it’s gettin’ me high. Forget the hearse ‘cause I never die. I got nine lives. Cat’s eyes. Abusin’ every one of them running wild.”
“Great song,” Justin voiced, grinning from ear to ear. The ship made its descent, music getting louder.
“‘Cause I’m back. Yes, I’m back. Well, I’m back,” it approached the tarmac, “Yes, I’m back. Well, I’m back, back.” wheels hit the tarmac, engine powering down but music still blasting, “Well, I’m back in black,” the ship doors opened, revealing steps extending to the ground, “Yes, I’m back in black.”
It was almost like a scene from a movie. Slow-motion if one will by how the Guardians exited their ship and stepped foot on the tarmac with AC/DC on full volume. All dressed in their new suits of red and blue leather with the Ravager flames on the chest.
Arriving in style.
Quill led with the rest flanking his sides. Drax munching on snacks while Nebula looked menacing and Groot towered over everyone. Cosmo had her tongue out in excitement, Rocket carrying his gun strapped to his back. Mantis’s chin held high, like she was on top of the world and Kraglin trying not to appear lost. Lastly Minerva was drinking a caprisun, Ray Bans covering her gold eyes.
Zemo tilts his head in amusement at the sight. He expected the Goddess, of war nonetheless, to have a more menacing approach like Nebula considering her reputation. But she was just as relaxed and laid back as Drax.
The Guardians walked several paces until they were directly in front of the Thunderbolts. It was then the music stopped, Ross being the first to address them. “You sure know how to make an entrance.”
Quill gave a smug grin, “We know.” Hands go to his hips, “You’re wearing a suit so you must be the boss man. Although I believe there’s also a boss lady we’re here to do business with.”
“Director Fontaine is currently occupied. She’ll be arriving in the morning.”
“I assume we won’t be knowing a damn thing until that happens, huh?”
Ross tightens his lips, “You assume correctly.”
“I told you we should’ve handled it on our own,” Minerva’s glances to Quill annoyed. Surprised by her voice, Zemo's eyebrows raised at her sudden input. Her accent was slightly Italian given her mythological origin is Roman.
Quill clicked his tongue, “We don’t have authority here, Minnie.”
“Midgard is part of the Andromeda Galaxy. Technically we should.”
Now the man was giving her a pointed look after Ross’s body language turned defensive, “I’d rather not get our asses thrown in Earth’s prison system. We go by the rules—the ones we established.”
Minerva grumbles under her breath, finishing the last remnants of her juice pouch, “Would’ve finished the job faster. They wouldn’t even know we were here.”
“Okay well, we’re doing things this way. We’re here as a team to work with a team. Right, Mr. Secretary?”
Ross’ disapproving eyes linger on Minerva, who in return rolls her own, before turning his attention back to Quill, “Yes. Now let’s move on shall we?”
He lets out a breath of relief, “Agreed.” Bidding a warning look to each of his teammates, they all wait for what the man in the suit has to say. Ross extends a hand to the people on either side of him.
“This is my team. All with different levels of skill and experience. Justin Hammer is our tech and weapons specialist,” Justin gives a wave, “Yelena Belova,” Ross points to the blonde in a white tactical suit, “former Black Widow and master assassin.” At the mention of Black Widow Rocket, Nebula, and Minerva all tense, faces becoming solemn at the memory of Natasha. They were the three remaining Guardians during the blip, becoming close with the Avenger.
“Ava Starr, she can phase through anything,” they all look impressed, finding the talent cool. “Antonia Dreykov, who we like to call Taskmaster.”
“Why’s that?” Kraglin asked intrigued.
“She has photographic reflexes and can mimic your fighting powers. Basically use your own moves against you.”
“Niceeee,” all the Guardians echo. Ross points to the two individuals in between Zemo and Yelena.
“Our super soldiers, Captain John Walker and I believe you all know Sergeant Barnes.” Bucky tightens his mouth with a curt nod.
“You still got that arm on ya?” Rocket muses, earning a nudge—well more like a kick—from Minerva. The rest of the Thunderbolts besides Bucky all become wide-eyed at the talking Raccoon…even though it said on the file he could.
But how the fuck else were they suppose to react to a talking raccoon?
All Bucky does is glare, “Don’t even think about it.” Rocket shrugs, “Worth a shot.”
“Why is that one carrying a giant frisbee?” Drax’s mouth is filled with Zargnuts. Walker, the man in question, becomes visibly offended.
“It’s a shield not a frisbee.” Zemo bites back a smirk at the soldier's tone. Not to mention the Guardians' reactions were priceless.
“A shield?” Mantis repeats confused.
“It’s a frisbee,” Drax mumbles.
“Like that circular object Minerva conjures to deflect attacks,” Nebula tiredly explains. Mantis’s mouth forms the shape of an ‘o’.
“And lastly,” Ross sounds just as exhausted as the cyborg, “Baron Helmut Zemo, former intelligence operative.”
“I am Groot,” Zemo’s attention goes to the tree alien, confused by his words. Minerva, seeing his expression, addresses it, “He says he likes your fancy cape.”
‘Cape?’ He thinks, but doesn’t comment on it and his perplexed reaction makes Minerva smirk. Instead Zemo says, “Well, I appreciate the compliment. Thank you.” Groot’s pleased, grinning wide like a child.
It’s then Quill’s turn to formally introduce the Guardians. The Thunderbolts bite back their own amusement at the nicknames and surprise of hearing the dog, Cosmo, speak through her suit with a distinct Russian accent. Afterwards Ross leads them all into the hangar, Minerva removing her sunglasses now that she was inside, allowing her gold eyes to be visible.
From there they all interact, awkwardly for the most part as they have no idea what the hell to do as they wait for further instruction. It soon becomes bickering and even challenging someone in hand-to-hand combat.
Well, what can you expect when a team of heroes meet a team of villains/anti heroes? Rivalry at its finest.
“Any day now, Quill,” Minerva groans, relaxing her stance. Across from her several feet away was Walker, confused by why she was taking so long to attack. They were standing in the middle of the squared off area with the teams surrounding them, but giving enough space to avoid being in the crossfire. Quill was scrolling through his Walkmen.
“What’s he doing?” Zemo whispers to Kraglin, eyes flicking back and forth from the human Guardian and the Goddess.
“Trying to find a good fight song. You know, get the vibes going.” Out on the square Minerva lets out a loud huff signaling her annoyance was increasing.
“Just give me another second—.”
“Quill.”
“I almost got it.”
“Pick a goddamn song!”
“Fine!” Quill shouts, randomly selecting the first one his finger hits. A second later Duran Duran’s ‘Hungry Like the Wolf,’ blasts through all the speakers attached to the Guardians arms. The antiheroes become perplexed, while also noting the song choice. Justin and Yelena started to bop their heads.
“Darken the city, night is a wire. Steam in the subway, earth is afire. (Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do)”
Minerva smirked, retaking her stance. As she lifts her hands, cosmic energy around her consorts to physical matter, taking the shape of a spear and shield in either hand. Wide eyes take over the Thunderbolts.
“Woman, you want me, give me a sign. And catch my breathing even closer behind. (Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do)”
“Wow,” Justin exhales. “In touch with the ground. I’m on the hunt, I’m after you.”
“That’s so cool,” Yelena muses, others muttering in agreement. “Smell like the sound, I'm lost in the crowd. And I’m hungry like the wolf.” Keeping his admirations to himself, Zemo watches the scene unfold in silence.
“First one to step or get thrown out of the square loses,” Bucky shouts over the music, “Ready….” Walker clutches the strap of his shield, Minerva twirling her spear once, “Fight!”
“Stalked in the forest, too close to hide,” Walker lets out a cry, charging at the Goddess. “I’ll be upon you by the moonlight side (Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do,” Minerva blocks his attack, pushing back slightly only to crouch to swipe at his legs, “High blood drumming on your skin, it’s so tight,” Walker dodges her spear, but fails to avoid her kick to his chest, sending him backward. “You feel my heat, I’m just a moment behind.” He brings his shield up in time as her spear barrels down at him. “Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.”
They continue their one-on-one for several minutes, both coming close to getting the other out of the square and the song changing to ‘Cherry Bomb’ by The Runaways—a favorite amongst the Guardians. The entire time Zemo was mesmerized to say the least. Every move she made was effortless, showcasing strengths and ability to predict Walker's moves.
He hadn’t felt such attraction to a woman in so long. And here he was experiencing a feeling that was almost unfamiliar.
Ultimately Minerva wins the battle in what one would call a divine move. At the peak of the song, Minerva’s golden eyes glow bright resulting in the eyes of the owl headpiece to also glow and become animated. It takes form, coming to life and soars straight at Walker, throwing him off by covering his face.
“What the—uuugh!!” He’s flying through the air, back meeting the harsh ground with an audible groan. The owl leaves him, returning to Minerva and consorting back into a headpiece. When it does her eyes dim back to their normal hue. Her team broke out into whistles and hollars, meanwhile Walker’s were unimpressed.
“Guardians for the win!” Rocket cheered.
“I am Groot!”
“Never underestimate the power of Duran Duran!”
Minerva helps Walker up, “Not bad, soldier.” As she turns to head off the pad, her eyes lock with Zemo’s and a wink is sent his way. Heat rises in the Baron, glancing away to hide his smirk.
Oh boy, trouble was on the horizon.
Next Yelena went against Nebula. Their fight was even more intense and nearly ended in a draw. Eventually Yelena overpowered the cyborg and got her to step out of the square. It was a tie. Groot and Rocket teamed up against Ross in the form of the Red Hulk—which took a lot of convincing—the two claiming the win after fooling the General. Taskmaster beat out Quill, handing his ass to him which had the Guardians in a heap of laughter.
“I enjoyed that more than I should have,” Minerva teases, crossing her arms as she takes a spot beside Zemo. He glances at her, mirroring her expression.
“Not a common occurrence for your friend to lose a fight?”
She scoffs, “You’d be surprised by his record.”
Lastly Bucky went toe-to-toe with Drax, and of course Rocket had to yell, “Take his arm and give it to me!” And well….it ended with them tackling each other out of the square. They didn’t know who won at that point, so the teams were tied 2-2 initiating a debate on who should be crowned the best.
“Okay, let’s call it a day,” Ross announces, ending the squabbling between the groups. “Night’s upon us and frankly I could use a drink. We’ll return here first thing in the morning—7am sharp to discuss the threat and where to go,” he turns to Quill, “we’ve got sleeping quarters arranged for you all if you please. Otherwise my guess is you’ll remain in your ship?”
About an hour later, after both teams settled for the night, Zemo decided to take a walk around the flight line. It became a habit of his since joining the Thunderbolts. A way to clear his mind after a long day of briefings and training. He basked in the peace that came with being alone, but there were times he felt lonely and longing for company to share the peace with.
Ten years since losing his family and the pain never strayed. Yet, he managed to live with it. He accomplished his goal in 2016 when he tore apart the Avengers. Likely is to blame for the loss against Thanos resulting in half of the universe’s population turning into dust for five years.
Did he feel remorse for the consequences of his actions? Possibly. Did he regret it? No. At this rate he’s accepted the reputation he painted himself to be.
“Zemo, correct?” The sudden intrusion spooked the Baron, jumping slightly by the glowing eyes in the darkness. A moment later Minerva stepped into the lighting, eyes dimming to normal. She was still in her suit, though her hair was pulled back, white streaks seeping through the natural color.
“Yes, but you may call me Helmut,” he replied, nodding in greeting to the Goddess.
“Helmut,” she tests the name, “like the headwear people use when they ride bikes or spacesuits?”
“That’s one way to look at it, but yes I suppose so.”
“Interesting. What brings you out this late in the evening?”
He shrugs, “wanted to get away from the constant complaining of my comrades,” eyes go to the sky, “and I like to admire the stars.” Minerva moves to his right, glancing up as well.
“They’re much more incredible up close.” He peers down at her, not bothering to question her judgment. She lives in space after all.
“I bet so. I’m sure the view from here is nothing compared to what you’ve witnessed.”
She shrugs, “These stars you don’t even know if they’re still alive. It took years—possibly millions—for the light to reach Earth.” Zemo looks back up, focusing on the North Star.
“For all we know they burnt out ages ago.”
Their eyes connect, Zemo feeling a weight on his chest by the intensity of her gaze. It’s followed by unease when she says, “Natasha told me about you.”
Instantly he looks away, feeling an unfamiliar wave of dread. “Ah.” Here was a discussion he was not expecting, nor willing, to have.
But Minerva didn’t show criticism. In fact, her gaze and tone resembled understanding. “How do you do it?” The question took him aback.
“Do what, exactly?”
“Align yourself with people who go against what you stand for?” Minerva’s tone wasn’t condescending at all, only curious. “Most of your team are enhanced individuals—two are super soldiers to be exact. You went to many lengths to disband the Avengers and put an end to superheroes,” there’s a slight tilt of her head, eyeing the Baron with intrigue, “but you join a group consisting of people who fall between the spectrum of hero and villain where most are the exact thing you wished to eradicate. Not to mention led by two people you wouldn’t say you share similar moral values with. Why join them?”
For the first time in his life, Zemo was at a loss for words. Not a single word uttered as he tried to comprehend what Minerva had just confronted him with. How could he explain? Hell, he didn’t even know the real truth other than wanting to stay out of his cell. A big price to pay in exchange for freedom.
Minerva spoke again before he could respond, “I once committed an act similar to you,” the surprise is evident on Zemo, “Vengeance against those who were responsible for the death of my loved ones. It’s why I was exiled,” a frown appears, her attention returning to the stars. “So I understand you, probably better than anyone here. Understand why you committed those acts to destroy the Avengers. I don’t fault you for what you did—if I did it would make me a hypocrite. You’re not the villain Ross and the Avengers made you out to be.”
“How so?” His voice is strained, “what have you lost?” He didn’t mean to come off as defensive, but the conversation was bringing up emotions Zemo didn’t want to face.
“As Goddess of War all I knew was bloodshed. How to prevent it and how to fight it. Battle strategy was my domain, and the High Council knew better than to question my judgment,” she releases an exhale, “but Mars, the God of War and my brother, was my ultimate rival. He hated how much our father doted on me and agreed with plans I coordinated. It made him feel inferior. He’d do anything to prove himself.” Her tone remains neutral despite the painful memory surfacing.
Zemo remained quiet, picturing the scene as Minerva relayed it. Though stoic the Baron could see the pain and sadness lurking behind her eyes. Managing it as best she could for the sake of her friends. Who knows how many years it’d been since she lost whoever it was close to her. But the hole would always remain.
“To put it short,” she started again, bidding a glance, “Our home was under attack and his rash decision to slow down the enemy led to the death of my family—my husband and children.” Sympathy arose in the Baron, understanding her anguish, “An intentional move on Mars’ part because he believed I wouldn’t be fit to remain on the High Council after stuffing such a loss, therefore he would take my place as Head Commander of our armies and my father’s second Command.”
“He wasn’t exiled?” The question left Zemo before he could stop it. Confused by how the God avoided persecution for his crime, Minvera was shunned. “Your family was targeted.”
Minerva’s smile was bitter, “because their deaths were a result of war, the High Council viewed it as collateral. They failed to see Mars’ responsibility, believing he didn’t intend to kill them. So, I took it upon myself to bring justice. Not only to Mars but also the High Council.” Her smile fell once more, “I made sure they would pay. And they did, but it was far from over after finishing the job. Those who survived didn’t hesitate to throw me out to the wolves once I was contained.”
Zemo nods his head, “where did you go afterward if you don’t mind me asking?”
“I was imprisoned on Xandar for some time,” well they certainly had some things in common, “Once I escaped I became what your people would call a bounty hunter. Where it led me to meeting those clowns I now call my family,” she pauses before adding, “and escaping prison for a second time. Only it was to save the Galaxy.”
The laugh that escapes Zemo surprises him, “I guess it all worked out then.” Once more they lock eyes, twinkling against the stars shining down above.
“I suppose it did.”
Three Years Later
Zemo raced out the door the moment he awoke to rumbling that shook the foundation of his home. After three years he’d recognize the sound in an instant, only this time it was without warning.
An action that rarely occurred.
Throwing on his coat and house slippers, the clock read 2:30 am, flooding the Baron with worry. ‘What is she doing here at this hour?”
Usually when Minerva drops in she gives Zemo a heads up. A day or two’s notice, but recently he couldn’t get a hold of her and passed it off as the Guardians on a job. With the unexpected visit, so late at night, Zemo instantly knew something was wrong.
Hurrying out to the front lawn right as her ship landed, Zemo jogged to where the stairs extended. When they did, the doors revealed his Goddess, still wearing her suit, standing before him. Zemo noted the exhaustion painting her demeanor. Dark circles beneath her eyes, which appeared dimmer than usual, and scars indicating recently healed wounds.
His arms are around her the moment she’s within distance, her own around his neck, “This is a surprise.”
“Sorry I didn’t call,” the exhaustion was evident in her voice. Barely above a whisper causing Zemo to tighten his hold.
“It’s alright, darling. I’m just glad to see you are okay,” his hand runs along her hair, “wanna tell me what happened?” He hears her sniff, increasing his dread, “Close call?”
“Too many,” her voice cracks and there’s a pause. “We almost lost Rocket. We saved him thankfully, but then we nearly lost Peter. And I almost—,” she stops short, not wanting to relive her near death experience. “This was…it was too much for all of us, Helmut.” A kiss is pressed to her head, offering comfort.
“Let’s get you inside, mein schatz.” Zemo leads Minerva into the home, sitting her in the living room while he goes to put a kettle on the stove. Filling two cups of cherry blossom tea, Minerva’s favorite, he joins her in the living room.
After taking her first sip of the brew, Minerva removes the headpiece from her hair and makes herself comfortable before giving Zemo a play-by-play of the past three days. He stays quiet, listening intently but visibly reacts with each awful detail Minvera relays to him. From the unexpected attack from Adam Warlock, to the disgusting abuse Rocket endured at the hands of the High Evolutionary, to Quill nearly imploading in space had it not been for Adam’s change of heart.
Zemo’s knuckles turned white when Minerva spoke of what happened to her. Anger consumed him and he wished he had been there to protect her. Seeing his distress Minerva placed her hand on his, gently squeezing, “I’m okay, Helmut. I’m here now and we all made it out. There were many close calls, but we’re all alive and that’s what matters.”
Taking her hand, Zemo brought it up to brush his lips against her fingers, softly kissing her knuckles. “I don’t know what I would've done if I lost you, Minnie. I—-,” he stops himself to exhale, squeezing his eyes shut, “I would’ve found a way to fly across the galaxy to avenge you.”
“I know you would,” she murmurs, removing her hand but positioning herself in his lap. Arms snake around his neck, pulling him so they were inches apart. “I’d expect nothing less. Also I’d be a hypocrite considering I would do the same for you.” A playful smirk formed, “I was already plotting when Ross let you get captured by those bastards last year. Had it ended any other way, Ross would cease to exist.”
Zemo snickered, “I see we haven’t really changed completely despite our friends believing the opposite. Neither of us hesitating to return to old ways if it comes down to such circumstances.”
She smirks, “No, I don’t suppose we haven’t.”
“What a pair we are,” leaning in, his lips meet hers in a soft caress. Warmth seeping through his veins. That effortless high he believed he’d never have again after the loss of his family.
But he found it with a Goddess in the stars. Where love swept across the galaxy.
When they pull away after a moment, Zemo keeps his forehead against hers. Gold meeting brown. “I’m not sure I can let you go now, liebling. At least not for a while.”
“You never have to anymore,” her words have him startled, the man pulling away slightly to get a better look at her.
“What are you saying?”
Minerva’s gaze turns soft, though there’s slight nervousness, “After everything we all realized something. We found the family we were searching for, but some of us needed to find ourselves. Peter’s here on Earth to find his grandfather. Mantis is off on her own adventure. Drax and Nebula are on Knowhere to help raise the children we saved from the High Evolutionary. Rocket and Groot are leading a new era of the Guardians. And me,” she stops, emitting a gaze full of love that takes Zemo’s breath away. “I’d like to be here. With you, Helmut. If you’ll have me.”
If his heart could explode from the happiness Zemo was feeling it would. Tears were threatening to prick his eyes, the Baron willing himself to remain composed. “Oh, Schatz,” he croaked, cupping the side of her jaw. “I should be the one asking you that. Of course I’ll have you. I love you more than every star in the galaxy.” With that he kisses her, putting all his love and passion it causes her own eyes to water.
“I love you too,” she kisses him again. They remain on the couch, falling asleep eventually curled up in each other’s embrace. Their last thoughts filled with joy as they awaited the new adventure on the horizon.
An adventure just between them. A reinstated Goddess and a fully pardoned Baron opening the next chapter of their lives. Together.

Loki Imagine - Ready, Set, Past! [PART 7]
[PART 1]  [PART 7] [PART 8]
Warning: Infinity War spoilers, angst, just a bit fluff, gore (killing enemies etc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your P.O.V.
It was time to get into action. We were all dressed in our combat outfits and no one had caught us yet up in the Stark tower. Loki had his armored suit on and of course, he wore his green cape and the golden helmet. I had my similar outfit on with the exact same cape minus the helmet. Tony was in his Iron Man suit, Scott was in his Ant-Man suit, Bruce was trying to get his Hulk through but for now, he was borrowing one of Tony’s Iron Man suits he had in another room here. Natasha and Clint were together, Nebula was more than ready just like everyone else. Thor was standing by Loki who was soon going to hold the tesseract, something that made a few people quite nervous.
But I trusted him.
“Okay, is everyone ready?” Thor asked the big group of people. We were supposed to go on the balcony to create the portal to Thanos, or the ship with his allies. A bunch of nods and yeses were heard and then Thor nodded to Loki. I gave my husband a sweet, reassuring smile as he walked outside. Once we got there, Tony opened the suitcase where the tesseract was. The blue light was truly strong and it was beautiful to look at. Too bad it had led to so many deaths, taking away some of its glory.
I glanced at Loki and noticed how the hue from the Tesseract made his eyes bluer. He took a deep breath and reached for the cube, grabbing in carefully. The scepter was in his other hand and it was obvious Loki was the strongest of us now, holding two infinity stones with him. “You can do it, Loki” I whispered to him. That made him look at me and I saw how nervous he was. It’s almost like he wasn’t too happy to bring these people straight up to Thanos. Whether it was worry or fear, I did not know. I wouldn’t be excited to be in his shoes now either.
Speechlessly, he looked away from me and took another deep breath. I stepped back and let him wield it, taking the time he needed. Everyone was watching this closely, curious to see what would happen. As Loki held the stone in his hand, he fell into a deep, focused state. The tesseract began to levitate above his palm and the blue light grew much brighter than it was a brief moment ago. Now the air around us began to flow around Loki’s hand, taking us by surprise. I watched in awe how Loki used the Tesseract, making it look magnificent as he formed the portal in front of him. The edges of it were blue, just like the tesseract and we were in a hurry.
“Go go go!” Steve told everyone to move and so we did. I decided to go last with Loki, allowing everyone to go through the portal to wherever it would take us. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared but I was also more than ready to see that purple titan dead. Tony jumped in and next would be Loki and me. Just then I heard someone landing on the balcony near us. My heart skipped a beat as I turned around and saw Thor, past-Thor! He had the Mjolnir in his hand and he looked furious.
“Loki! Give up the tesseract!” Thor shrieked madly at his brother. Then he faced me, almost disappointedly.
I knew I had to act fast. No matter how much it hurt, I knew what I had to do. “Good luck, my love” I told Loki sincerely just as Thor began to near us.
“What are you talking about, Y/N?” Loki muttered since he hadn’t noticed Thor yet. I couldn’t let him stay behind for he had both infinity stones. Loki looked at me in confusion and then he looked at Thor, his face got pale at the sight. He knew this could end badly.
So before Thot got to Loki, I got into action. It broke my heart to do so but I had to. I leaped at Loki, pushing his back so he stumbled straight through the portal with the two infinity stones. I had leapt at him so hard that I fell chest first on the ground, all air escaping my lungs because of the impact. It even knocked my senses over for a moment.
Damn, that hurt.
As I got up, I watched the portal disappear in front of me. It was gone, vanished! I was left behind.
“Why would you do that?!” Thor yelled at me. By now, I was trembling from fear. This couldn’t be good. I was supposed to join that fight! At least, Loki got there but we were separated. I was the one who could bring us all home.
Damn past Thor!
I pushed myself up but my legs were like jelly. Words could never describe the worry that kicked in. This was bad, really bad. “Y/N” Thor said my name as he noticed how upset I was. I walked back inside and collapsed on a sofa, hands in my hair as I tried to figure this mess out. I didn’t even know where they were! Thor followed me inside, obviously wanting answers from me. In his eyes, I was a criminal now for I had helped Loki. I couldn’t help but wonder if he had seen everyone else.
“Do you..realize..what just happened?” I breathed out in utter shock. Thor’s eyebrows were knitted together and I faced him, finding it a bit odd to see his long hair again but right now, that didn’t matter. The fate of the universe was at stake and we already screwed something up.
”Where did you take Loki?” Thor wanted to know. He had no idea what was going on but I couldn’t blame him for it either.
Lately, I had been crying out of pain a lot. I had cried for Loki, at the memory of losing him. But now I wanted to cry in exhaustion and frustration. This wasn’t good at all! “W-We’re..all gonna..die” I sobbed as angry tears rolled down my face. I hated to cry, especially now but I felt helpless. There was nothing I could do!
“What do you mean?” He asked me with concern in his deep voice. I just looked at Thor as I held my breath in hopes to drown my tears.
Did I seriously have to tell him?
It didn’t take long until Thor seemed to soften up a bit. I was of Asgard and we were old friends so he definitely hoped for the best. Thor joined me on the sofa and put his hand on my shoulder, looking deep into my eyes in hopes of answers. I just bit my trembling bottom lip and looked back. This could ruin everything!
“Loki..he’s not a b-bad man” I whimpered quietly. I knew I had no choice but to tell him the truth now, hoping that could clear things up. But now I would meet the past-Avengers as well.
This was not supposed to happen.
“What do you mean? You need to tell me everything, Y/N. Loki took the Tesseract, where is he? Why is he doing this?” Thor began to question in, almost like he was in a hurry. Damn, this was weird, it made my head spin. I just spoke with Thor who planned this all but here I was with past-Thor who knew nothing.
“Loki is-... he’s helping us save the universe..we were..damn it!” I revealed to Thor, clearly surprising the God of Thunder. Words were difficult as my head was spinning in circles, my thoughts getting tangled like noodles. I wasn’t sure if he’d believe me. Judging by his expression, he seemed even more confused by now.
“The universe?” Thor wanted to make sure he heard right. I nodded and that’s when he looked away from my eyes, sinking deep into his thoughts. If I would’ve bothered, I would’ve read them but I didn’t feel like it. He was probably judging us, believing we were crazy.
“Who are ‘we’, Y/N? How is Loki saving the universe?” The questions kept pouring from Thor’s mouth.
“You big oaf, you shouldn’t have come” I groaned and leaned against the sofa, running my hands through my hair. Oh, how I wished I was with Loki and the future-Avengers. This couldn’t have started worse.
“Excuse me?” Thor was slightly offended by what I said. “Why didn’t you just tell us about this?” He wanted to know. His question had me laughing although I was far from happy.
“Would you have believed me?” I raised my eyebrows. Although Thor and I were friends, I was beyond mad at him right now. I knew he wanted the best for everyone but I couldn’t help my rage.
“What wouldn’t I believe you, lady Y/N?” He narrowed his light blue eyes.
I supposed telling him couldn’t mess things up more than they already were. Out of frustration and desperation, I decided to do so. Somehow, it felt right despite how wrong it sounded.
“We are from the future, Thor. The people I was talking about, everyone but Loki. We needed him” I revealed the crazy truth. Thor tensed at my words and now I was convinced he’d throw me in the looney bin. Once again a desperate chuckle left my lips that were sore from the biting earlier.
“Why didn’t you take Loki from the future?” Thor proposed a painful question. My fake-smile faded and I felt how my broken heart throbbed in my chest painfully. This was harder than I thought it would be.
“Because he’s dead” It came out as a whisper but he definitely heard me. Now he knew. The look on Thor’s face was just painful. For some strange reason, he seemed to believe me. His eyes got misty and he was speechless. I hoped that he would be willing to help me now, for I knew better than most people that no matter what, Thor loved Loki. He would never intentionally let anything happen to his troubled brother.
Tumblr media
“You’re telling me she’s from the future?” Past-Steve asked Thor in complete disbelief. Thor had informed the Avengers to come to the Stark tower and here I was, surrounded by the people that had to stay together. Suddenly, I felt like it was all on my shoulders and it was beginning to overwhelm me.
“Tell them, Y/N” Thor nodded at me. He had made me tell him facts of everyone that could hopefully make them believe me.
A sigh left my lips and I rubbed my temples tiredly. It still felt so wrong to sit here when the rest of the group was out there, somewhere in space, risking their lives. It was physically paining me to block out my worry for them. “What could I say?” I mumbled and looked at the group around me. They all looked at me like I was a murderer. I knew they considered me evil and dangerous because I broke Loki out of the helicarrier but little did they know that they were a part of it, of course in the future.
“Okay Steve, you have a best friend, James Buchanan Barnes but you call him Bucky or just Buck. You thought he died, right? Well, he’s not dead. You’ll meet him soon enough” I spilled dangerous information to them but I had to take risks in order to make them believe me. I couldn’t stick with small and safe facts anymore, not at this point. Steve narrowed his eyes and tried to act like it didn’t do anything at all. He didn’t want to believe me or perhaps the truth frightened him.
“Tony, you’ve worked on this Avengers project and Natasha, you too. Clint, you have a family you never talk about because you’re terrified of losing them. If you don’t help me, you will all lose your dear ones” I told them seriously.
Suddenly Clint stood up, looking at me like I had said something bad. “Are you threatening my family?” The man growled angrily, getting very protective of his personal life.
“No, I’m not. Thanos is” I revealed more possibly overwhelming information. They all seemed curious to hear more but they were also very pessimistic. I couldn’t blame these simple mortals.
“I would love to tell you everything about the future but we don’t have time, okay? I just need you to believe me so we can get into action” I said before they would question me. I didn’t have the temper to sit around and do nothing.
“Why should we trust you?” Bruce asked me, earning nods from Tony and Natasha. Damn these people!
“The universe is at risk. In a few years, Thanos, a dangerous titan will collect these infinity stones. He will get them if we don’t stop him now” I let them know seriously. I noticed then how they seemed to believe me, at least slightly. Maybe they didn’t want to but it was the truth and I sounded pretty damn convincing.
“And what happens if he gets them? Would it really be that bad?” Thor had to know, scaring me a bit. I couldn’t afford to have Thor as my enemy now. His question took my breath away. Would it be that bad? Loki would die! He didn’t seem to believe that part of my story.
“Thor - half the universe will perish!” I hissed and got up on my feet, nearing Thor dangerously.
Before I got too close, past-Tony grabbed my wrist. “Take it easy, time-lady” He tried to make me loosen a few knots.
This was useless!
“I can’t calm down! I sent the future versions of you and Loki in space and I was supposed to be there! They might die because I can’t take them away from this timeline! I can’t do that because I’m stuck here telling you little stories that are useless! My husband might die! The universe..everyone..” I snapped at Tony completely, raising my voice like never before. At the end of the sentence, the words got stuck in my throat. Tony’s deep brown eyes widened and he let go of me, raising his arms in surrender, probably just to piss me off even more.
“I need to get there, Tony” I added more calmly, now with my eyes directed at the floor. I couldn’t even begin to explain how useless and frustrated I felt. I was terrified for my friends who were out there, somewhere. I was worried over the lives Thanos took in my timeline. I had made a vow to bring them back. I had risked everything to get Loki back!
And now it seemed like I had failed them.
“She’s telling the truth” Natasha whispered after a while. I raised my gaze and looked at the redhead who had been studying my every move for the past twenty minutes. She had crossed her legs and I couldn’t say she seemed happy but at least she believed me. As a spy, she knew when people were lying. So having her backup could convince the rest as well.
“What?” Bruce spat out, making Natasha nod silently.
“Can we give her a chance? She’s of Asgard, we’re friends, family” Thor asked his new friends seriously. Then he patted my shoulder and gave me a small smile. It meant a lot to me now. Their help could be priceless.
“She’s Loki’s wife” Steve remembered and spoke of it like it was a bad thing.
“And if she’s telling the truth, Loki isn’t the villain here” Thor shot back at Steve. I didn’t want a fight to happen between them either. They had to stay together and create the Avengers and truly stick together. I mouthed a ‘thank you’ to Thor quickly and I truly meant it.
“Alright, since we don’t have a better plan anyway. What can we do, princess?” Tony was the one who finally agreed with Thor. He clearly enjoyed giving people nicknames but I didn’t mind it. I was glad I had a chance now.
“Well in my timeline, New York was in danger so we should secure the streets and-” All of a sudden, I felt weak. I couldn’t speak because my body got a really bizarre feeling. My eyes widened and I struggled to breathe and soon, my hands were on my chest.
What the hell?
A gasp was heard as I got my breath back. I completely lost my balance, landing in Thor’s strong arms as he caught me moments before I would’ve merged with the floor. I could hear my own heartbeat loudly and my body got covered in goosebumps. I felt really sick. It’s like each and every cell in my body tried to move in another direction. I felt so out of place, like a stranger even in my own body. Was this timeline trying to get rid of me? Was the existence of two of me confusing the universe? What was happening?!
“Y/N, hey..hey” Thor tried to coo but I couldn’t focus on what he had to say. I knew immediately that something bad was happening. “Can’t...breathe” I choked out in pain. I squeezed my eyes shut and the next thing I knew, I fell limp on the floor and blacked out completely, being left at the past-Avengers’ mercy.
My heavy eyelids began to feel lighter. I had to wait a while until I opened my eyes, seeing a dark place around me. It was cold here and very quiet as well. What happened?
I pushed myself up from the ground so I was on my knees. That’s when I noticed I wasn’t alone. Loki was right in front of me and he was looking at me very concernedly. Once our eyes locked, he smiled. “Loki-” I said his name out loud but he covered my mouth with his hand and shushed me. I gulped and bit my tongue to stay quiet. Where were we? Where were the rest of the group? Where was the tesseract? How did I get here?
“You’re safe, I used the tesseract to get you here. I thought it wouldn’t work” Loki whispered to me very quietly. Yes, I was glad to be here but I would be happy if I knew where we were. I had so many questions for him. A lot could have happened during the time they spent here without me.
“What happened? The question left my mouth barely above a tiny whisper now that Loki removed his hand.
He crawled closer to me and sat down right beside me, wrapping his arm around me safely. I allowed my tense muscles to relax as I leaned against him. Now I could look around us. I noticed how everything seemed like it was sculpted out of stone. It was dark, almost wet and cold. This place was truly odd. It had a heavy aura that made my skin crawl.
“We arrived here. Tony decided we needed to get rid of the chitauri, apparently, his plan would work” Loki began to fill me in with details. Thank god. Getting rid of the chitauri was important but it wouldn’t be an easy task.
“Do you feel okay? We should keep moving” Loki asked me before continuing with his story. I didn’t mind as long as we got things done.
“Yeah, yeah. I ran into the past..your timeline Avengers and now they know everything” I let him know calmly although it wasn’t tiny news. Loki’s eyes widened and his lips parted as he wanted to say something. He changed his mind though and kept quiet. Instead, he got up and offered me his hand, helping me on my feet as well.
“Also, travelling via the Bifrost is much better than that. I thought I was dying back there” I let him know in hopes to ease the mood slightly. Loki just smiled at that, which was good. We were in a dangerous situation so keeping the spirit up was important. Soon it became evident Loki had hidden there so no one could see us. It was the perfect spot to create portals in. I couldn’t help but wonder what the past-Avengers were thinking. I mean, I just disappeared from them.
Now that we began walking, I noticed that this place was enormous. It had to be Thanos’ ship that made the Asgardian ship we stole from Sakaar appear tiny. It became very real now. I found myself getting ready to fight Thanos again and it was terrifying. It had to be done.
Now or never.
As Loki and I walked through some corridors, he grabbed my hand. It made me relax a bit and I held his hand tightly and intertwined our fingers. There was nothing romantic about our situation at all, we would face one of the evilest monsters in the entire universe. But we wanted to be together. The extra comfort was much needed. By each turn, we pressed ourselves against the walls and made sure the route was clear. We had to meet up with Nebula who would eventually lead us to Thanos.
This was it...
“Loki” I whispered his name once we stopped again. He looked at me and nodded, being very cautious now. I was quiet for a while as I tried to hear footsteps or voices, but I couldn’t. Then I decided to continue. “If we fail, I want you to know I love you so much,” I told him sincerely from the bottom of my heart. Saying it out loud now, here was almost eerie. It reminded me a lot, too much of the day Loki died, or at least when I thought he died.
Loki’s jade eyes softened and he sighed. He let go of my hand and then cupped my face. His touch felt nice and so I put my hands above his. “We won’t fail, my love. Thanos has destroyed enough, we will take him down, together” Loki let me know confidently. There was this hope in his voice that gave me hope as well. So I smiled and nodded, earning a small smile from him as well. Damn, I could almost believe him to be telling me the truth. At least he eased my worried soul a little bit.
Suddenly, he leaned closer to me, pressing me against the stone wall. He took my breath away as he pressed his rosy lips on mine, kissing me with so much passion it made me surrender to him completely. I kissed him back and it felt like our first kiss, it was that sensational. As we had to break the kiss, we met each other’s eyes with love. We would do this together, we were in this together.
“I love you too,” I repeated myself,  “Now come on, let’s get this done with, shall we?” And just like that, we returned to our mission so we could find Nebula.
After a little while and many turns in this labyrinth of a ship, we reached the spot Loki and Nebula agreed to meet at. It was located behind some weird machine that offered a hiding spot if needed. I had no idea this ship was this big but at least we found the blue woman. She was here with Scott as the rest were on their mission to destroy the chitauri army, one way or another. I still didn’t know how but apparently they had a good idea.
“I see you made it,” Nebula said once she spotted me. I swear the sounded a little bit happy about it, just a little bit.
“Yeah, thanks to Loki” I answered with a smile and then glanced at Loki who was still right by my side.
“Took you long enough” Scott murmured half-heartedly. He seemed really nervous by now but he had lost the people he loved so he too was more than ready to fight.
“Now what?” I asked Nebula, not sure if I could just stand here forever. I was slightly anxious. Anyone could walk in here and see us all.
“We need to take out some of Thanos’ children and his allies before getting to the real deal. There’s a tiny issue though” Nebula sighed all of a sudden. We encouraged her to go on. “I’m..my past self is here. I can’t remember exactly what I was doing but I think we should find her..me..whatever. Just to be safe but I can take care of that” The woman let us know. She had a point, Nebula was deadly so running into past her wasn’t a thrilling idea.
“Okay, lead the way” I took a deep breath and allowed her to lead us. After all, she knew this place the best. I wanted to keep an eye on Loki just in case he’d get flashbacks of his time spent here. Nebula nodded and led the way. Scott was right behind her and Loki and I were last, keeping eyes on our backs. We had been lucky long enough so I wasn’t surprised when a guard met us in a hallway. Before I could say a word, Nebula had already cracked the man’s neck and he fell limp on the floor. “Don’t stumble on that crap” She warned us and kept walking, just like that.
Impressive.
I leaned closer to Loki and made sure I didn’t step on the body. “I like her” I told him honestly. Nebula seemed pretty amazing but she tried to hide that. I could understand why she and Gamora had had it hard but they loved each other nevertheless, reminding me of Loki and Thor.
Finally, we stopped. Nebula was convinced we were close to her past self. She opened a door and took us to an empty room with weapons, loads of them. I was surprised no guards were seen around this place. It was just a sign that Thanos was way too sure of the security of this place. “Grab what you need, I’ll check the backroom” Nebula told us while walking to the back of the big room. I looked at the mysterious weapons curiously, seeing daggers and guns and things I hadn’t even seen before.
As Nebula opened the door, someone attacked her.
Not just anyone - It was her past self!
“Calm the hell down!” Nebula told her past-self and tackled her. Seeing that was messing with my mind a little bit but it seemed like Nebula had become stronger recently. That is if I was rooting for the correct nebula. They looked identical, as a person should to their own duplicate. She covered past-Nebula’s mouth with her hand and looked at herself sternly. “We’re here, from the future. It’s time to put an end to this”
As Nebula negotiated with herself, Loki stepped in front of me. “It seems like she got this under control,” He told me quietly. I wasn’t sure if we should’ve walked away but I decided to do it anyway and so we joined Scott who was studying the weapons.
“I wonder if I can shrink these,” He thought out loud while holding a black weapon with weird buttons on it.
“Yeah, perhaps this isn’t the right time for experimenting,” I said carefully, trying not to upset him. I was simply overly cautious. “When are the rest returning?” I wanted to know. I was getting more and more impatient the longer we were here. Our luck couldn’t possibly be this good for much longer, or so I thought.
“Tony said he had to plant several nano explosives or something. Thor took them to the other ship, they should come soon” Scott answered me without taking his curious eyes off the gun. At least, I got some sort of an answer.
“Let’s hope they’re fine” I whispered quietly, truly worried for the rest of the team.
“They will be,” Loki replied softly to me. I looked into his eyes and somehow, he managed to calm me down by just looking at me.
I wasn’t sure if the odds would be so great for us if we had to face Thanos now. As we planned earlier, the more the merrier, at least that applied in battle, here. We had a good fight plan so if we got caught now, things could get ugly.
The room was quiet. Only Nebula was speaking and even they were quiet for her past self seemed to believe us. I didn´t know her very well, but I could feel her insecurities and hatred for Thanos radiating in the air. Her past self might´ve been naive but Nebula knew how to get into her own head.
So now we had two Nebulas. For some reason tho, somebody found us. The door to the room opened and no other than Proxima Midnight herself stood there, armed and all. Seeing her sent shivers down my spine for she had a murderous grin on her face and pure evil in her bright eyes.
“Well, what do we have here, Nebula? I didn’t know you had a twin and oh if it isn’t Loki with her pitiful lady friend and..whatever he is” Proxima Midnight’s voice was overconfident and mocking. She never had the intent to sound kind. Now that I saw her, knowing what she had done and what she would do in the future, I felt nothing but pure hatred towards her.
“We meet again” I muttered as I created energy balls in my hands. Now I got eye contact with her, it was enough to give me an adrenaline rush and I felt ready to snap her head off.
“Again?” She seemed confused. It was just the perfect distraction for Nebula to attack her.
Just like that, the battle began starting with Proxima Midnight. Evidently, she had company for other enemies rushed into the weapon vault. The two Nebulas were fighting Proxima. Five or six guards stormed in and now Scott, Loki, and I had someone to fight. Scott got to use that gun and he shot down a guard powerfully, cheering afterward. The body of that guard flew backward, hitting the wall until he fell on the ground, completely knocked out of it.
“Alright! This is awesome!” I heard Scott saying as I attacked one of the guards. It tried to hit my face but I dodged it and pressed my palm at his chest. He had no time to react as I shot the energy through him, burning a hole in him.
That put a smile on my face.
As the fight got heated in the weapon room, I ran outside where more guards were awaiting. Thanks to the adrenaline and hatred in my body, I fought off these simple guards rather easily. Proxima Midnight was the problem here for she was stronger than the guards. I got sticky, hot, blood all over me but it didn’t stop me. I kept shooting the energy balls at them but it would drain me so I created two daggers in my hands instead. I’d need all the energy I had once we’d face the titan himself.
I would have to fight the old classic way.
As I killed off the last guard in sight, I stopped to take a deep breath. I was going to return to the weapon room but to my horror, I noticed I couldn’t move a muscle. It’s like I just froze with no warning at all, being completely unable to do anything. What the...?
“Such a shame. If you would’ve kept your eyes open for one more second, this wouldn’t have happened” An odd, haunting voice told me, revealing what happened to me as well. My heart sunk in my stomach as I recognized it to be Ebony Maw, the one who controlled things with his mind. I gritted my teeth together and tried to break free from this but it felt impossible. He had me trapped exceptionally well.
Why did bad luck follow me everywhere?!
I felt sick and nauseous for I couldn’t help myself out of this situation. I also knew exactly where he could take me next. The mere idea of facing that disgusting titan alone had me terrified.
“Thanos will love this, the wife of Loki, Goddess of Time. Funny how you didn’t see this coming” He sneered and moved me in the air with his mind, bringing me closer to his ugly face. I looked at him with fire in my eyes and I knew I’d say the most poisonous words if I could’ve opened my mouth. It required one little distraction to break free from this but it didn’t look good for me.
I was doomed!

Author’s Note: Okie dokie Loki, here we go. How will things go? Will the information you told the past-avengers be devastating? Thanks for all the feedback so far! I love you all so much.

Summary: How Croix and Chariot spend some of their nights now that they are back together.
I curled around Chariot and as she buckled into me, I remembered the nights we spent together as teenagers, young and in love, but now we were older, a bit more damaged, but still just as giddy. I trailed my fingers down her side longingly and let out a satisfactory sigh as she exhaled a breath I didn’t know she was holding, even in the stillness that had settled between us like dust, we were still just as in tuned to each other as ever, synchronized by the caged flutter of heartbeats in succession; we were so entangled in one another it was hard to tell where her warmth ended and my warmth began. I sat up slightly, shifting to pepper her in kisses, down her cheek, up her jaw, down her neck, and she giggled more with each peck; I stopped when I felt Chariot’s pulse against my lips and she pulled away from me, if only to roll over, and I was grateful because I was tired of living in a face-full of hair; I was more grateful because of the view, the new shades of crimson that greeted me in warm pools. I tucked her hair behind her ear and let myself linger there a moment more before my hand trailed her jaw and I brought our lips together. It was soft, slow, but not painfully so, and as we parted I couldn’t help but catch her gaze and smile. I didn’t have to say anything as we laid there, naked, exposed to the world, and exposed to each other, though she was my world and knew it. She knew. And I knew. And that was all that mattered.
I worried sometimes that I had no sense of self other than her, and that when she and I blended together like two colors colliding on canvas, we bled into one another to become inseparable, and my fear resided in the inability to find myself as I began to become more and more lost in her. I felt as if every night we fell into the same routines, and every night, while she held the hand that cannot feel, I tried my damnedest not to cry. The progression of days and nights often felt like a streaking pattern, like shooting stars across the night sky, and as we accelerated through space and time together, we had become more and more intertwined, in love and in love with being in love, infatuated like birds stuffed with millet, spoiled on one another.
On the nights where I felt the most vulnerable is where I found myself thrusted into her, tossing myself and my insecurities at her, caught by her every single time, captured in her arms, her smile, her gaze. We would lay together, find new rhythms, and perform a balancing act that became more and more thrilling and exciting the longer we beat against each other,  and when we ended we would end in sweat, and heat, and blood, and bruise, bones nearly ground to marrow against one another, and we collapsed in heaps of jelly-like-flesh, unable to move for minutes at a time. She has often left her marks on me in the form of teeth, bruises that litter my pale complexion, forming their own reverse constellations. She often liked to drape herself over me, and kiss my battle wounds in apology. I told her of how every one looks like its own nebula, and she agreed, though she still felt the weight of guilt. But more often than not, I was the one who walked away with the heavier heart, however, because regardless of how many marks she might have left on my skin, I was always the one drawing blood.
Chariot has always worn her heart on her sleeve, so bleeding externally is nothing new to her. These claw marks against her back, my desperate need to seep into her, to feel something with this cursed hand, that leaves her in fits of pain raked against her skin, mistaken for pleasure. She bears them, proudly, even, and allows me to sink my claw-like nails into her flesh repeatedly like a cat kneading. She grits her teeth, bares the pain, wears the scars I inflict with a sense of pride, and meanwhile I am the one who left all their bleeding beneath the skin. That’s how things have always been with me. She knows this. I know this. And yet we continue on in this mutually destructive carnivorous joyride, a disorienting, dazzling experience.
But in that moment, the moment after courtship, the moment after we took pleasure in inflicting pain, in taking the pain, in sharing the pain, we longed to be something even grater; and as I watched Chariot’s eyes, the once childish shimmer was a spark that had evolved to such a voluminous, intense fire, lapping up everyone that made eye-contact in the same way a fire makes its way from rooftop to rooftop among cityscapes, in leaps and bounds, I felt this overwhelming sense of globus: when our eyes met, every time, my heart leaped from my chest to my throat and back down again in a single, solitary thump, and I was so disoriented I had to close my eyes and swallow, hard, this almost cancerous lump that seemed to form, just to find the courage to speak; and even still, as I worked up this courage that I thought would never come, Chariot was patient as ever, ceaselessly content in the silence that surrounded us, suffocated us like the love we had smothered each other in, and through the silence, susurrus severed, like the kind of sorcery only two witches could brew, and I murmured, as quietly as my heart felt when it beat against my ear drums, sweet nothings, speaking to her things that she knew, that I knew that she knew, that needn’t be said because she knew, and because I knew that she knew, but were said regardless, because that is what love is: the act of doing things not out of necessity, but desire, and never had I ever once desired anyone as much as I desired Chariot Du Nord.
A new stillness found us, after I had spoken, and her smile shifted from a tired, loving tug at the corner of her mouth to a teeth-baring, obnoxious grin. I couldn’t help but be reminded of when we were kids again, and I found myself drawn to her lips once more. We kissed and I felt static and spiculum, the sort of throbbing, itching, ache that one might feel if their limbs fell asleep, but we were wide awake, and I drank the energy she poured into me, and let myself wander against her celestial, deity-like body, falling back into patterns I thought we had recklessly abandoned after the first round in hopes of some semblance of sleep, the sleep that never came, or did come, but in the form of absolute exhaustion when our desires to destroy, build, destroy each other tipped the scale and sank along with our depleting energy, only this time, I did not find myself with her legs wrapped around my neck like the noose I never wanted her to be, instead I found myself with her lips against my wrist, the wrist that could not feel, as she trailed my scar in pecks and whispered her own sweet nothings. In the past I have felt the pleasure of pain, but this was the opposite, being neither pleasure, nor pain, only nothingness, a hollow, vain act, albeit a selfless one. I let her kiss me where I could not feel her, and suddenly became aware of the vast emptiness that came with it, like the distance between any two stars, and I pulled away with tears in my eyes. She kissed the tears in my eyes, and I imagined the taste of salt, as I had previously imagined the feeling of her lips on a limb I could no longer register. She peppered my face in kisses in the same fashion and the feeling of proximity brought me back down to earth, where I finally felt the weight in my lids more than the weight of my own useless heart. The last glimpse I caught as my eyes fluttered between open and shut was the striking red of Chariot’s hair, and those eyes, those burning red eyes.

At my next trunk show I will be taking orders for #bespoke pieces. I like to say that if you're going to splurge, why buy something that everyone else already has? Take the plunge with something different that speaks of who you are. I absolutely love working with clients to create memorable pieces that capture the attention and imagination of others. Here the Australian jelly opal has found its home in The Cosmic Sea Ring, a lavish and hefty piece made from 22k gold. The client and I played with the idea of using diamond pavĂŠ but we quickly concluded that the opal itself was so powerful that we should let it be admired on its own. My client is both a scientist and a believer in other worlds. She fell in love with this jelly opal for its unearthly fire - it seriously glows even in near-darkness! It is nebulae in deep space and a globe that houses an otherworldly being. I am convinced this opal found its way to its true keeper! #opal #jellyopal #fire #magic #commission #custom #handpicked #ring #gold #lovegold #galaxy #fate #kismet #eternalbeauty
