(middleschool sarumi) The two get into a fight but before it could be resolved, Saru gets into an accident saving Misaki and is now in a coma. Misaki wants to make sure he's there when Saru wakes up so they could fix everything and bec. he's worried. Unfortunately, Niki is there, too to "take care" of his son. Niki is borderline threatening Saru's life/is also pissing off Misaki but he can't fight back or he'd get kicked out. Niki let's Misaki stay only cause he finds his reaction entertaining.
Niki only hanging out in Saruhiko's hospital room to lie in wait for Yata just to taunt and tease him, and now Yata knows how really horrible Niki is. Oh, maybe that's how the initial fight starts too, like there was some school assignment about families and Yata was worried that Fushimi doesn't even want to discuss his. Yata knows Fushimi's dad is weird but surely it couldn't be that bad, being all optimistic thinking that Fushimi's dad isn't a total piece of shit, and Fushimi gets irritated and is like 'zero points.' He ends up storming off and Yata runs after him, Yata's in such a rush to get to Fushimi so they can make up that he doesn't look before crossing the street and ends up running right in front of an approaching car. Fushimi turns just in time to see Yata about to get hit and his eyes get super wide, moving before he can even really stop to think about it, pushing Yata out of the way and getting hit himself.
Obviously Yata is totally traumatized about this, imagine him just running to where Fushimi's lying on the ground and yelling at anyone around to call am ambulance. He's allowed to accompany Fushimi to the hospital but he can't go in Fushimi's room, just pacing around the halls. No one will tell him where Saruhiko is because he's not family so Yata ends up like sneaking onto the emergency floor and eavesdropping on the nurses in order to find Fushimi's room. When he gets there Fushimi's apparently asleep, hooked up to machines and Yata's just like reaching for his hand begging for him to wake up so he and Yata can make up.
That's when Yata hears this laugh and he turns, there's Niki holding like a bouquet of flowers (all of which Saruhiko is allergic to). Niki's like 'my little monkey is in a coma, you know' and Yata's now even more worried. He's also confused though because shouldn't Niki be looking more upset, Niki just grins and says he's here to take care of his little monkey. Yata's encouraged by that and maybe Niki convinces Yata to tell him what happened, poor innocent Yata tells Niki about the fight and he's all remorseful and everything, probably thinking Saruhiko's dad will give him some advice the way Yata's own stepdad would. Instead Niki starts laughing, like huh you two fought I guess we could say this is your fault couldn't we. Yata's horrified and Niki taunts him, all if only it wasn't for you Saruhiko would be okay you're really the worst aren't you.
After this Yata probably gets a real taste of just how awful Niki is, like Yata won't let Niki's words deter him from checking on Fushimi but he's also kinda horrified by just how terrible Saruhiko's dad is. Yata tries to sneak into the room when Niki isn't there but Niki still manages to catch him constantly, mocking him for causing this and wondering out loud what to do if Fushimi never wakes up, like maybe I could take him home and use him as decoration. Sometimes Niki taunts Yata with the idea that Saruhiko won't wake up and Niki will pull the plug, Yata gets really mad but then Niki reminds him that if he makes any fuss Niki could easily get him thrown out of the hospital. Yata hates having to deal with Niki but he still keeps coming back, not just because he wants Fushimi to wake up but also because he feels like he needs to be there to save Saruhiko from Niki (and then when Fushimi does wake up Yata happens to be the only one there and he like sneakily locks the door so Niki can't come in. Fushimi's lost his memory from right before the accident and doesn't recall the fight, but even so Yata decides he'll never try and make Fushimi reconcile with his dad ever again).

Title: Don’t Look Down DJ AU Chapter 11 (Read from beginning Here or Here) Pairing: Sarumi Rating: M Word Count:  7,016 AO3 Summary: When Fushimi Saruhiko is dragged to a club by some of his co-workers, he refuses to dance, earning him the attention of the lively, up-and-coming DJ, Yata Misaki. After a heated argument, the boys go their separate ways, never expecting to meet again. Little do they know their first meeting is only the beginning of their now intertwined lives.
Full Fic Under Cut. Thank you to @its-love-u-asshole for betaing!
Misaki tapped at the soundboard, his fingers twitching against the knobs. He still hadn't quite decided how he wanted to add to Mikoto's song, though they had a meeting tomorrow. After Saruhiko had left, they had decided Totsuka would sing the entire song, and while Misaki was ecstatic to be working with him and Mikoto, he was feeling a bit lost without Saruhiko. Stupid idiot.
He had tried to plan out the way he was going to execute his ideas for the song, but every time he thought about anything, it was Saruhiko's voice he heard buried in the track. It was frustrating, especially since he and Saruhiko hadn't talked since the fight in the office.
A week had gone by, and Misaki wasn't sure how to go about texting him. It was usually him who initiated things, which currently was adding to his frustrations. Saruhiko liked him, right? Misaki figured that was a fair assumption based on the activities they had participated in together. Hell, Saruhiko had initiated a few kisses, and he'd been the one to ask Misaki back to his place the other night after the concert.
He let out a large groan, and leaned back in the chair, staring at the ceiling. Idiot Saruhiko. Picking up his phone, Misaki twirled it around in his palm. He probably wouldn't answer even if Misaki did text him.
The fight hadn't made much sense. Saruhiko said he didn't want to sing, but then he got angry when Misaki had agreed to produce a song with Mikoto. He knew how long Misaki had been waiting for an opportunity like this, how much it meant to him. Saruhiko, once again, was the most confusing person Misaki had ever dealt with.
The worst part was how much it was actually affecting him. This moment should've been perfect, everything Misaki wanted and more. Even if Saruhiko didn't want to sing, he could've at least been supportive, or helped or...
Running his hand down his face, Misaki trilled his lips. He supposed Saruhiko didn't owe him anything. If anyone owed, it was Misaki. Saruhiko had done so much for him, and Misaki knew he hadn't done much but bug the guy. Still, he had somehow gotten the impression Saruhiko enjoyed the time they had spent together. Maybe he hadn't.
"Yata-san?" Kamamoto asked, peering inside of Misaki's room.
"Eh? Kamamoto?" he replied, whipping his head around to stare at his roommate.
"You okay? You were making all sorts of weird groaning noises..." Kamamoto muttered.
"Was I?" Misaki blushed, twisting the cord of his headphones around his fingertip.
"Are you stuck on the song again?" he asked, placing the mug full of tea down in front of him.
Misaki nodded. "I am. I feel like it should be easy! I mean I should be freaking thrilled to be writing a song with Mikoto, and it should feel amazing!" Misaki paused, staring at the tea in the mug in front of him.
"But..." Kamamoto asked, urging him to continue.
"But...I feel really stuck. I wish Saruhiko was..." he trailed off, blushing even harder.
"The one singing for you?" Kamamoto finished, deciding to piece things through himself.
"No! I mean, yes! I mean, Totsuka is amazing, and of course I'm so excited to be working with both of them."
"But it doesn't feel the same as when you and Fushimi worked together?" Kamamoto asked, and Misaki shook his head.
Letting out a frustrated groan, he stood up angrily. "I mean who the hell needs that asshole! He was such a fuckin' pain you know?!" Misaki snapped and plopped back down in the chair.
Kamamoto raised an eyebrow at Misaki who rolled his eyes. He hated when Kamamoto somehow knew everything about everything. He normally kept to himself, but when he did have something to say, it always seemed to be...stupidly intuitive. It was worse that the idiot wasn't actually saying anything now.
He ran his finger along the edge of the cup as he puffed out his cheeks. "I have my meeting with Mikoto tomorrow, and we're going to work on tweaking the song," Misaki shrugged. "I know it's going to sound awesome. I mean it's Mikoto-san...and Totsuka. It's just...Saruhiko and I have such a connection."
"Hm. Do you feel like what you're working on has something missing or somethin'?" Kamamoto asked.
Misaki bit his lip. "I guess." He groaned loudly again, and ruffled his hair. "I wish he could've just...said yes or whatever."
"I'm sure whatever you come up with will be awesome! You're always awesome!" he smiled. "Maybe you're thinking about it too much?" Kamamoto suggested.
"Yeah, yeah," Misaki grunted, waving him away. "I gotta get back to it," he mumbled, placing the headphones over his ears. Kamamoto was always stupidly positive about stuff. It was nice sometimes, but occasionally Misaki had nothing to say in response, especially when he had too much to think about.
"Okay, Yata-san," Kamamoto said quietly, closing the door behind him, though Misaki wasn't paying anymore attention to him.
Pursing his lips, he listened to the track once more, and began to make some tweaks and additions. Maybe he was thinking about it too much. Normally when he wrote music he had fun with it, or was inspired by something. However, even though Mikoto was the one who had gotten him so hype about music in general, he was struggling. Maybe he was too nervous? If Saruhiko had been here, it would've been a hell of a lot easier to write something with his voice.
He paused, tapping his keyboard as he went back and listened to their first, and now only, track together. Saruhiko's voice was so smooth, sexy even, though that thought did make Misaki blush. Misaki sighed. It had been perfect.
Pausing the track, he moved back to the new one, once again imagining how Saruhiko would sound on it. Though he supposed that wasn't all that bad. If he could hear Saruhiko on it, he could write it as though he had Saruhiko in mind, and then someone else would sing it. Nodding once to himself, he felt determination flow through his veins as he began to listen once again. He didn't need Saruhiko to be good. If Saruhiko really hated doing music so much, Misaki would move on without him.
~~
"We're thrilled to have you here." Hisui Nagare's smile was unnerving for a reason Saruhiko couldn't quite put his finger on.
"Mmm Nagare-san couldn't stop speaking of you after he saw you perform." An older man spoke up, and Saruhiko quirked his eyebrow, confused by who this man was supposed to be.
"Ah, meet my manager, Iwafune-san," Nagare said, nodding his head towards the older man.
"Yes, nice to meet you, Fushimi Saruhiko," he said, bowing his head. "I am looking forward to seeing what you can do. Of course, Yukari-san is not going to be very happy to find out you've replaced him," Iwafune chided, though Nagare simply shrugged, wheeling himself to the mixing board.
"Yukari-san will survive just fine. Plenty of DJs work with different vocalists," Nagare scoffed. "You know I'm always looking to change my sound. I want my sound to mold and change with the times and myself. I've grown as a musician, and I will still be using Yukari-san for this upcoming album. However, Fushimi-san is incredibly talented, and I would like to use him for this song," he scoffed.
"Of course, of course," Iwafune chuckled, waving his hand back and forth. "We're always looking for new talent, but Yukari does get quite defensive," he said. Both men laughed this time, and Saruhiko rolled his eyes.
He was anxious to get on with the recording. Saruhiko still wasn't completely comfortable with singing in front of others, and as much as he hated to admit it, this was the first time he'd be doing something like this without Misaki.
Perhaps in his anger he had been far too hasty. He'd called Nagare on a whim, wanting to frustrate Misaki, and what better way to do so than to record with a rival DJ. His plan had been genius, until he realized he'd actually have to record in front of someone else. He could barely sing in front of Misaki, and he'd only been able to perform at that concert because he'd felt Misaki's radiating energy behind him. Could he really do something like this without him?
Saruhiko wasn't a musician, and had never wanted to do all the things Misaki had made him do, but the truth was he'd enjoyed it. Enjoyed everything he'd done with Misaki, no matter how reluctant he had been about it. But part of the reason he had come to enjoy the experience was because Misaki had always been there. The whole journey Misaki had been there. He'd held his hand, leading him through the confusing emotions singing had brought up for him. He'd pushed Saruhiko's back, even when he had dug his heels in, and Misaki had always loved what Saruhiko did.
But then Misaki had ruined it. Saruhiko should've expected something like this to happen. As amazing as Misaki had been for him these past few months, Saruhiko knew he should never have expected it to stick around. Happiness, contentment, they were emotions which often were fleeting around Saruhiko. That's what Saruhiko should've expected, Misaki never would've lasted.
Though Saruhiko supposed Misaki hadn't exactly tossed him aside completely. He had asked him to help with that shitty song, something Saruhiko wanted nothing to do with. Beside, it had been smarter to leave now, before Misaki kicked him to the curb. It would only be a matter of time. Mikoto had noticed Misaki, which in the end, was all Misaki had wanted, Saruhiko decided.
Misaki had dreams, and he wanted nothing more than to be famous for his music. He was so hungry for success, he was willing to give up the sound which had made him so unique. A sound which Saruhiko had fallen in love with, a sound which had brought him and Misaki together. That was the kind of music Saruhiko wanted to sing—Misaki's, the sound which had made him feel confident and happy, if only for a moment.
How could Misaki have thrown all that away? Just for the chance to sing with his stupid idol? Saruhiko couldn't comprehend it, no other person had mattered so much to him. The only person who had even come close was Misaki himself, and Saruhiko couldn't watch as Misaki threw away everything Saruhiko had loved about him, simply to please that idiot Suoh Mikoto.
Frowning, Saruhiko folded his arms, trying to focus on the conversation happening between Nagare and Iwafune. They were still going on about this Yukari guy, and Saruhiko had no desire to insert himself into the talk. However, he wanted to stop thinking about Misaki. The whole point of this was to forget Misaki, move on without him, and possibly get back at him a little in the process.
"Alright," Nagare said, smiling Saruhiko's way. "I'm sure we've bored you enough with this talk of people you nothing of. Let's get you in the booth and get you set up?"
"Right," Saruhiko said, pushing himself out of the chair.
Iwafune held the door open, following Saruhiko inside as he began to adjust the mic to Saruhiko's height. He handed Saruhiko a pair of headphones, and stepped out of the booth, closing the door behind him.
Saruhiko took a deep breath, the padded walls feeling as though they were constricting around him. The booth was tiny, but it felt as though it was getting smaller and smaller the longer he let his thoughts race. Why had he done this? He should've stuck with his original plan, and never sang again. Never before had he so desperately wished to be at his stupid desk at his stupid computer job. He even missed some of the idiots who bugged him on a regular basis.
The truth was, he'd wanted to sing again, but he also hadn't wanted to do so without Misaki, and glancing at Nagare through the tiny glass window only made him more anxious.
And yet, that fact made him angry, and a battle began to rage in his thoughts. Misaki had no problem making music without him. He could imagine Misaki was probably sitting around right now, working on the song with Mikoto excitedly, being all proud of working with his idol, even if it was a shit song. So really, Saruhiko should have no problem doing this. He'd done it before, he'd moved past his fear. Even without Misaki, he could do this, even if it felt so damn wrong.
"Alright Fushimi-san!" Nagare's voice boomed in the headphones, and Saruhiko's body twitched, shocked out of his thoughts. "We're going to play you the song, and you can listen to it a few times. I've got my voice in there right now temporarily, so sing along with me, and when you feel you're ready we'll play with things. You can change whatever you like, complete musical freedom is yours," Nagare smiled.
Saruhiko simply nodded, listening as the song began to play in his headphones. Nagare wasn't a terrible singer himself, and the song was interesting. Saruhiko could recall Misaki talking about Nagare's music style, saying it was a more intense style of dance music, closer to dubstep. At the time, Saruhiko hadn't really understood what Misaki had meant, but listening now, he could get an idea. The sound was completely different from Misaki's. It was heavy, and full of a mesh of beats and tempos. There were moments where the song picked up, as though it was building to something, but instead slowed down. The electronic sounds were almost overwhelming, and it was certainly...unique, and Saruhiko wasn't sure if it was a song he would listen to, or even like.
But he wasn't doing this because he liked Nagare's music.
The song played on repeat a few more times, Saruhiko awkwardly working to pick up the changing rhythms.
"Do you have any thoughts, Fushimi-san?" Nagare asked, after Saruhiko asked to listen to the track once more.
"...It has a lot of unique...rhythms," Saruhiko muttered into the mic, not wanting to insult Nagare. His plan wouldn't work if the man kicked him out of the booth before he even sang a note.
"Good," he said. "Does it feel uncomfortable?" he asked, and Saruhiko met his gaze. His eyes held a playfulness Saruhiko didn't quite understand, must be some sort of musician quirk. He'd seen something similar in Misaki's gaze many times, but Misaki had always seemed more pure, and excited. Nagare on the other hand, looked positively pleased by his discovery of this 'unique' music style.
"...Yes," Saruhiko said bluntly.
"Good!" Nagare repeated. "As I mentioned before, I want to shape and mold the music world. Bring us into a new era of music, and I believe these kinds of tracks will do that. Art isn't supposed to be repetitive and comfortable," he explained.
Saruhiko couldn't exactly argue with that, thinking back on how much he'd hated Mikoto's repetitive, boring song.
"Do you want to try something?" Nagare asked. "No rush, you can have as much time as you please."
Staring at the lyrics in front of him, Saruhiko pursed his lips. The moment he started to sing, there was no going back from this plan. Misaki would eventually hear this song, and he'd know what Saruhiko had done.
He thought momentarily about Mikoto's song again, and he knew he'd be hearing that too, just as much as Misaki would hear this one.
"I'll try," Saruhiko replied.
"Marvelous," Nagare said. "I'll be cutting out my vocals and you can do as you please."
Saruhiko heard the music start up again, and he waited for his cue, knowing he'd have to start. Nagare had already heard him sing at the concert, which is why he was here in the first place, so Saruhiko knew he'd have to get over his fear.
He opened his mouth, letting his mind go blank as Nagare's strange lyrics flowed from his voice. Singing through the song became almost a trance as he added runs and improvisations Nagare hadn't included. He didn't love how he sounded, but he kept going, wanting to push through the track. He kept his mind focused, staring at the page in front of him, and when the song ended, Saruhiko blinked, forgetting he had been singing at all.
Clapping came from the other side of the booth, snapping Saruhiko from his daze. Glancing out the window, he saw both Iwafune and Nagare clapping their hands excitedly. "That was absolutely perfect, Fushimi-san. I knew you'd be the best pick for this song," he smirked.
"...Thanks..." Saruhiko replied.
"It was brilliant! I want to do a few pick ups, maybe have you sing through it a few more times so we have different takes to work with. How does that sound?" Nagare asked.
"Right. Sure," Saruhiko said. It certainly hadn't felt brilliant. When he had sang with Misaki it had ignited a flame inside his blood, a rush he couldn't replicate with this type of song even if he had wanted to. His singing felt flat, emotionless, as though he were singing above the track, not in it, letting the sound wash over his body completely.
He wasn't sure why he had expected it to be the same. Nagare was nothing like Misaki, nothing at all, and it wasn't as though Saruhiko had actually agreed to this because he wanted to sing. His actions had been completely spiteful.
"Let's continue, we'll start from the top," Nagare said, turning the music on once again.
Even as regret began to settle into his chest, Saruhiko knew there was no turning back now.
~~
"Alright team, tell me you've got something," Kusanagi stated. "I'm bumping up this single's release date by a week."
A week? Misaki felt his face pale. His part of the song was finished, or so he thought. He had yet to play it for the Homra group, but Kamamoto had said it felt finished to him, and Misaki was happy with the final product. However, he had no idea if Mikoto and the others would approve what he had done.
"A week?" Totsuka said, speaking Misaki's thoughts out loud. He tilted his head in confusion, tapping his fingers on the table. "But we haven't even recorded the song yet Izumo~" Totsuka whined.
"Mm why?" Mikoto grunted, his expression staying the same, though Misaki felt a hint of annoyance coming from his aura.
"I heard Nagare plans on releasing a new track, something unique and crazy."
"Nothing new..." Mikoto grumbled.
"That's the thing though, if it is something new that gains traction with fans...it could be a problem for our track. Right now, more relaxed dance music is in style thanks to you Mikoto," Kusanagi explained. "The last thing we want is Nagare's erupting electrical style to take over. I doubt you want to make music like that, Mikoto."
The red haired male let out a long sigh, closing his eyes.
"Exactly. So, Yata-san, show us what you got."
Misaki swallowed, and quickly nodded, placing his laptop on the table. "I had...a few ideas to add to the track, as well as the lines where Totsuka-san would sing," Misaki said. "I hope you guys uh...like it."
"Stop being so nervous," Mikoto said, placing a hand on Misaki's shoulder. "We wouldn't have given it to ya' if we thought you'd suck."
Blushing, Misaki glanced at Mikoto's hand on his shoulder. "R-Right.." he nodded his head quickly, his hat falling down over his eyes. Clearing his throat, he pushed it back and opened his laptop, pushing play on the track.
He kept his eyes down, staring at the specks on the table, trying his best to focus on anything but their faces. He couldn't look at their reactions, he was far too terrified.
"Hm," Mikoto grunted, and Misaki jerked his head around to stare at the noise. He was nodding his head up and down ever so slightly.
"Wow..." Totsuka whispered as the end of the track faded out. "That...was awesome!" he cheered.
"You made it better," Mikoto said flatly.
"R-Really?!" Misaki said, standing up as he slammed his hands on the desk. Blushing, he slowly lowered himself back into the chair. "S-Sorry...I'm just happy you like it. I, uh, spent a lot of time perfecting it, I didn't want to ruin what you already had."
"You made it better," Mikoto repeated, nodding his head again.
"You did!" Totsuka said leaning forward. "I am so excited to be singing this song! Your friend is really missing out," he teased.
Misaki froze. "R-Right..." he chuckled awkwardly.
Saruhiko was missing out. This was supposed to be an amazing experience for both of them, for all of them. As much as he had struggled through the song thinking about Saruhiko, Misaki was still a little shocked Saruhiko had completely abandoned him like that. He could imagine Saruhiko sitting at his computer desk, looking grouchy, working on new tech stuff Misaki didn't understand at all. He could've been here, they should've both been here together, but Saruhiko was so damn stubborn. Misaki really had hoped Saruhiko would change his mind and sing with him. He'd come so far, overcoming all the frustrations he'd felt with music, but in the end, he'd gone back to his boring old job. Swallowing, he let the air empty out of his lungs, he'd promised himself he wouldn't waste anymore time worrying about Saruhiko. He'd been the ass, not Misaki...it was Saruhiko's fault he wasn't here.
"Fantastic! Let's get you guys over to the studio then!" Kusanagi said, clapping his hands together.
"Eh? Right now?" Misaki asked, glancing at Totsuka and Mikoto, both looking completely un-phased.
"Yes, right now. Do you have other plans?" Kusanagi asked, raising his eyebrow, as he turned to head out of the office, quickly followed by Mikoto.
Misaki quickly shook his head, standing up immediately to follow after them. "Don't worry," Totsuka chuckled, placing his hand on Misaki's shoulder. "They do this," he said. "Kusanagi is very...prepared. He usually likes what King does, so he sets up recording sessions early. And King just goes with the flow."
"Yeah, I'm...slowly catching on," Misaki chuckled.
They arrived at the studio barely 15 minutes later, and Totsuka was quick to hop in the booth. It was such a contrast to Saruhiko who Misaki had to practically pushed into the booth, desperate for him to just sing.
"So...how do you guys go about doing this?" Misaki asked, taking his seat next to Mikoto in front of the soundboard.
"Just leave it to Tatara," Mikoto said waving his hand. "I make the music, he makes the vocals. Don't worry."
Winking, Totsuka leaned over, giving them a thumbs up through the glass window which peered into the booth.
"Yeah, okay," Misaki nodded.
"He's...excited," Mikoto said, a small chuckle escaping his lips for a moment. "He usually gets like this about recording new shit," Mikoto snorted.
"That's...cool he's so passionate about your music though," Misaki said quietly.
"Mmm..." Mikoto glanced towards him. "Yeah. It's good to find a singer who can bring your music to life, and is excited about it."
Biting down on his lip, Misaki nodded. "Yeah, it always feels really good to have a singer who fits your stuff really well."
"Yeah. Don't worry Tatara is gonna sound great," Mikoto said, keeping his gaze fixated on the excited blond in the booth.
"O-Oh! I know...Uh...sorry, I wasn't trying to make it seem like Totsuka-san would do a bad job! He's incredible...one of the best singers I know! I'm...I'm so lucky to get to collab with him!"
"Yata...I know," Mikoto snorted, raising an eyebrow at him. "But I can tell you miss your friend. Talk to him again."
"What?! No way! This is the best opportunity I've had and Saruhiko gave it up! He's the one who walked away from me. If anyone is going to talk to anyone, he's gotta talk to me!" Misaki snapped.
"Alright," Mikoto shrugged.
Slouching down in his chair, Misaki sighed. He was such an idiot, getting all worked up about Saruhiko like that in front of Mikoto. How uncool! Though, looking at Mikoto, he didn't look too upset, actually he didn't look like he cared at all.
They had Totsuka listen to the track a few times, only two, before he was ready to try something. Totsuka's voice was pure, clean and bubbly, sounding excited and smooth over the track. It was a nice sound, and it was actually better than Misaki had expected it to be. He loved Totsuka's voice, but no matter how hard he had tried, he'd imagined Saruhiko's voice when he had been working on the lyrics. Still, listening to Totsuka now, Misaki did like how he sounded. It added to the meshing of both his and Mikoto's styles.
"That was great Tatara," Mikoto said. "Let's go again."
"Amazing!" Misaki cheered, giving him the thumbs up. It was incredible watching how fast Totsuka worked, and Misaki assumed this was how actual professional singers did things. Totsuka was so comfortable behind the mic, it looked as though everything in the booth, everything in the song belonged to him and only him. Admittedly, it was nice not having to push and fight with his singer to actual sing.
And yet...
Misaki stared into the booth, watching Totsuka sing with such beautiful passion over the track. It should've been perfect, it should've been everything he'd dreamed of. Misaki had been waiting for this moment for so long, collaborating with the two people he respected the most in this industry.
And yet...
The ghost of Saruhiko's voice in the track haunted Misaki. It had never been there of course, but Misaki felt like it had, and though Totsuka's voice was beautiful and full of emotion, Misaki missed how raw Saruhiko's vocals were, how unpolished everything was about him.
"Perfect," Kusanagi says. "You guys are going to blow Nagare's track out of the water," he chuckled, listening to a rough playback of Totsuka's vocals over the song.
"Of course we are!" Misaki cheered. Kusanagi was right. Totsuka sounded amazing, and the song sounded amazing. Yata Misaki had collaborated with Totsuka Tatara and Suoh Mikoto, and it was a dream come true. Actually he was kind of tempted to pinch himself to make sure this had actually happened. There was no point in focusing on stupid Saruhiko, not when he was experiencing one of the greatest moments of his life!
~~
Saruhiko had never felt so damn relieved to sit at his desk that Monday. He'd been gone for a few days due to the recording and the concert, and he was so happy that finally, finally things were back to normal.
Quiet. But normal.
And really...wasn't quiet what he wanted?
He glanced at his phone, the screen black and unchanging. He tapped the button on the screen, making it light up with the time. No new messages. He wasn't sure why he expected anything. Nagare had no reason to contact him, and Misaki sure as hell wasn't going to after the damn fight they'd had.
Minus Munakata, none of his coworkers had come to the concert either, so none of them were bugging him about it, or trying to get details, and it was...nice. He didn't want attention from them or anyone for that matter.
"Ah, good morning Fushimi-kun!" Of course his silence was extremely short lived.
"Mmm..." he grunted, keeping his face glued to the screen. Since Munakata had been quiet about going to the concert, Saruhiko could only hope he'd stay that way, especially around the others at work. There was a tiny itch Saruhiko had, wanting to ask Munakata how exactly he knew Suoh Mikoto, but he didn't want to talk about that guy, nor did he want to bring up stuff with the concert.
"Do you think you could join me in my office for a moment? I have something I'd like to discuss with you," Munakata said with a smile.
"...can it wait?" Saruhiko grunted. "I'm kind of in the middle of something."
"Are you?" Munakata smiled, peering over the cubicle. "It looks to me as if you're simply staring at your home screen currently."
Flaring his nostrils, Saruhiko let out a huff of breath. "Fine," he growled. "I'll be there in a minute."
"Marvelous!" Munakata said, and left him there.
Saruhiko groaned. What the hell could Munakata possibly want to talk about? Sure, he'd taken a few more days off than normal recently, but he rarely took days off, and it wasn't as though he was behind in his work. Everything he'd been doing recently had been on time, and well done, which was more than he could say for people like Hidaka and Doumyouji.
Flicking his computer screen off, he made his way to Munakata's office, knocking once before he entered.
"Good to see you today, Fushimi-kun. The office misses you when you're not here," Munakata said, leaning forward in his chair to rest his head on his hands.
Saruhiko clicked his tongue. He was certain they didn't miss him so much as they missed him picking up their slack and getting extra work done when he stayed later than all of them. "I'm sure," he mumbled.
"I am being serious," Munakata said. "Doumyouji-kun and Hidaka-kun are quite lost without you, and Akiyama-kun, my most proficient worker besides you seems to be slacking without you around as much."
"Sir," Saruhiko began, his eyebrow twitching. "Frankly, I don't see how this is my problem."
"Oh, it is not, I assure you. I simply wanted you to know how...well-liked you are here. This being said, I wanted to speak to you about your future at this company."
"My future?" Saruhiko retorted quickly.
"Yes, your future. As you now know, I am...somewhat close with Suoh Mikoto. A story for another day perhaps," Munakata began, and Saruhiko was damn grateful Munakata had decided to save his breath. "Anyway, I was told you turned down the chance to collaborate with him and your friend, Yata Misaki was it?" Munakata inquired. "I was...curious as to why."
Saruhiko's eyebrow twitched again. How the hell did Munakata find this shit out? Sure, he was friends with Suoh Mikoto, but then again, this was so like him, sticking his nose into Saruhiko's business when it didn't actually belong there.
"What does this have to do with my future here at this company?" Saruhiko grunted.
Munakata chuckled. "I suppose it doesn't affect much if you keep rejecting these opportunities. But I was surprised to hear you had. With your singing voice, Fushimi-kun, I'm sure collaborating with Yata-kun more would be quite good for you."
Clicking his tongue louder, it took every restraint Saruhiko had to not snap at Munakata for not minding his own business.
"I thought perhaps you'd prefer to pursue singing as a career, instead of working here. You're very intelligent, and losing you as an employee would be a blow to us of course. However, Fushimi-kun...I do know you quite well at this point, and I don't wish for you to feel obligated to stay."
Blinking, Saruhiko stared at Munakata for a moment, trying to process his thoughts. Munakata wasn't exactly wrong. Saruhiko did owe his adult life to Munakata. Without this job, without Munakata, he never would've been able to afford living on his own. And admittedly, he didn't hate the job. The people were frustrating sure, but fixing computers was interesting, and challenging every so often. He'd never really thought about how his life would be if he wasn't doing this. He'd never thought he would ever consider leaving. He liked where he was, and before Misaki came and threw off all of his plans, he'd never imagine doing anything else.
None of it mattered however. Munakata was wrong. He didn't imagine himself as a singer, and he'd said no to any further collaborations with Misaki, and he wasn't ever going to work with Nagare again either. He was done with singing, it was over.
"Mmm," Saruhiko grunted. "I won't be doing anymore singing anytime soon. I didn't reject the opportunity because of this job," he mumbled.
"I didn't think so," Munakata chuckled. "It's not my business to ask any more details, but I know you and Yata-kun had a fight." Munakata paused, but Saruhiko said nothing in response, staying silent. There was no point in talking about this anymore, Saruhiko decided. He wasn't going to sing, Misaki was off enjoying his new life as signed DJ, and Saruhiko simply wanted to fade into an unknown existence again.
"Well," Munakata sighed. "I won't keep you from your work," he said, and Saruhiko bowed his head, turning to leave. "But one more thing, Fushimi-kun," Munakata began, freezing Saruhiko at the entrance to the door. "Seeing you perform the other night...it was as though I finally saw you truly living. With Yata-kun, it seems you can do anything, or that was the sense I got from your singing," he said. "I would hate to see you lose that look in your eyes because of a silly fight."
Clenching his fist around the door handle, Saruhiko swung the door open and stormed away. What the hell did Munakata know anyway? He'd only known him for a few years, he didn't know how singing with Misaki made Saruhiko feel, he didn't know how Saruhiko felt about Misaki in general, how frustrating the idiot was. So what if he looked amazing and 'alive' while singing. It was a fluke, a one time thing...it wasn't going to happen ever again, especially not while Misaki was off following Mikoto like a lovesick puppy.
No, Saruhiko had made his choice.
~~
It wasn't long before blogs and radio stations had begun talking Nagare's announcement for his new track. It hadn't come long after Misaki and Mikoto had recorded theirs, but Kusanagi had made the final decision to hold off on posting their new single until around when Nagare's came out. The plan was to release it before however, and Misaki was anxious to hear the final product, and crowd reaction. Most people loved what Mikoto did, but who knew if they'd like the addition of him.
For now, Misaki was focusing on his other songs for his upcoming album. He had recorded a second with Totsuka, and though it had turned out amazingly, Misaki would occasionally feel the slight pang of longing for Saruhiko's amazing voice.
He'd made a promise with himself to stop being down about it after the recording session with Mikoto and Totsuka. Ultimately Misaki was happy. Sometimes his brain would be filled with thoughts of how things were with Saruhiko. It would've been better with Saruhiko, he often would think, but would quickly try and shake the idea from his head.
This was his dream, being signed with Homra was going to be amazing, and he could only hope to continue collaborating with Mikoto in the future. There had already been discussion of a tour with him once both of their new albums were released, then they could play their duet together as well. As long as the sales were up, it was basically guaranteed. Touring with Mikoto was a dream come true, actually everything lately had felt like a dream come true.
Still, Saruhiko missing was a hard slap of reality. Misaki was too stubborn to call him or text him, but he kept checking his phone to see if Saruhiko maybe would, even though he knew damn well Saruhiko would never. It sucked. They had been so close...to something. He'd just started to think that maybe...he loved the asshole. What a fool he'd been. One stupid fight had ruined it all, why the hell had Saruhiko not been more understanding!? Misaki groaned every time he thought about it. It was growing more and more frustrating and Misaki hated how often he felt down thinking about it.
The real problem was, Misaki missed Saruhiko. Missed his voice, missed collaborating with him. And more than his voice, Misaki missed Saruhiko. He missed Saruhiko's grouchy attitude, and he missed getting to bug him through texts all the time, and he missed getting to kiss him, and touch him...even though they had only done that a few times, Misaki had really really wanted to do it more. Usually, it was too much to even think about it.
"How did it go?" Kamamoto asked, when Misaki walked in from his session with Totsuka.
"It was good," Misaki said, tossing his backpack on the floor and plopping on the couch next to Kamamoto.
"Just good? You were recording with Totsuka today right?" he said.
"Yeah it was awesome!" he chuckled, leaning back with his arms against the couch.
"That sounds more like the Misaki I know," Kamamoto said, nudging his side.
"Shaddup! I'm still not used to this."
"What? Getting to work with your music heroes?" Kamamoto teased.
"Yeah! Exactly! It's just a little surreal you know?" Misaki said. "Plus...I'm still having that problem where I hear dumbass Saruhiko's voice on everything I do! It...kind of throws me off when I hear Totsuka sing them."
"Really?" Kamamoto said, looking shocked. "Isn't Totsuka really good though?"
"Yeah..." Misaki muttered. "I mean he's amazing! I love his voice, especially on Mikoto's stuff, they just...mesh so well you know?!"
"Well, they're dating right? I know there's been rumors about it..." Kamamoto said.
"WHAT?!" Misaki yelled. "They are!?"
"Eh!?" Kamamoto blinked. "I figured for sure you'd know since you've been around them in person unlike most of the tabloid writers..."
"I had...no idea..." Misaki blinked. "But I guess that does make sense...As to why they mesh so well." Blushing, Misaki thought of how good Saruhiko sounded on his song, and how it had led to other things between them.
"So you feel like Totsuka isn't right for your songs then?" Kamamoto asked.
Misaki shook his head. "No, he's still amazing. His voice is incredible, and I actually can't believe the Totsuka Tatara is singing on one of my songs. But you know when you have a certain sound in your head...and you just...can't get it out. That keeps happening..." Misaki muttered, standing up to head to the kitchen for water.
"Hmm. You gotta do something to forget about that guy," Kamamoto said, leaning on the arm of the couch. "Maybe imagine Totsuka singing your stuff when you're working on it."
"I've been trying that!" Misaki moaned. "It's just...not working so well."
"I'm sure you'll figure it out. You always do!" Kamamoto cheered.
"I gotta!" Misaki said, filling up a cup with some water. "I mean I gotta make this album good you know? It's my first one!"
"Yata-san, no matter what you do, your album is gonna be freaking awesome!" Kamamoto chuckled.
"Maybe..." he sighed, sitting back down on the couch, and kicking his legs onto the table in front of them.
"Oh! You know what I heard, Nagare's single is going to be previewed tonight on the radio in...5 minutes!" Kamamoto said glancing at his watch.
"WHAT?!" Misaki said, slamming the cup on the table. "We wanted to release our single first! Shit! Kusanagi is going to be mad."
"Well it's just a preview...not everyone will hear it," Kamamoto said. "It's not like it's going online."
"Argh! Still!" Misaki growled, dashing into his room. He dug through his drawers looking for his old portable radio. Frantically tossing clothes and trash around, he finally found it on a shelf near his closet.
He ran back to the living room, placing it on the table as he tuned it to the 'Hits' station.
"Dammit!" Misaki cursed again. "I can't believe this!"
"You can still release it first," Kamamoto said. "Sorry I didn't realize this was such a big deal."
"Of course it is!" Misaki snapped. "We don't wanna be competing with Nagare's new sound. Whatever it is..." he grumbled.
His heart pounded as he heard the radio announcer talk about Nagare's new single, and how unique and interesting it was. Misaki normally loved his music, and any other time he probably would've been thrilled to hear a new track by him, but for now he was a complete ball of anxiety. What would it sound like? Would it be good? Would it be better than his and Mikoto's song?! Would their song flop which would cause Misaki's album to flop, and then he wouldn't get to go on tour and lose his signing?!
"And now! We're happy to bring you a preview of Nagare's new song, featuring up and coming singer, Fushimi Saruhiko."
Misaki froze, all thoughts of failure slipping from his mind. "..." Picking up the tiny radio, he turned to Kamamoto, whose face looked confused, his brow furrowed. "What the hell did it just say?!"
"I-I dunno!" Kamamoto choked out.
"Did it...did it say...did it...Saruhiko?" Misaki felt his mouth run dry, and he stared at the device in front of him. There was no way to rewind, so as the song began, all he could do was wait and listen. The song seemed to play in slow motion, each beat felt painful as his head began to throb. He couldn't focus on what the song sounded like.
Had Saruhiko sang with someone else? There was no way. Saruhiko could barely sing for him...let alone anyone else...
The first line came in, and Misaki felt his heart flutter, and then immediately sink. He knew that tone so well.
Saruhiko was singing on a song Hisui Nagare had written.

mikosaru. What if Fushimi got sick and Mikoto took care of him?
RIP Saru XD Imagine this in a post-ROK Everybody Lives type AU, like say Fushimi’s been under the weather but of course he continues to insist on working. He’s supposed to meet Yata at the bar but it turns out some family thing came up and Yata’s been detained. Fushimi gets to the bar and only Mikoto is there, Fushimi immediately glares and starts grumbling to himself about how of course Misaki has to be late when there’s no one else there. Mikoto suddenly gets up off the couch and starts walking towards Fushimi, Fushimi backs up without even meaning to as he’s like “W-what?”, trying to sound all belligerent. Mikoto reaches for him and Fushimi is just so confused as Mikoto puts a hand to Fushimi’s forehead and notes that he’s burning up. Fushimi swats him away and says it’s just because this stupid bar is so hot and because Mikoto’s too close, Mikoto gets this amused grin as he’s like isn’t your King the one who gets close like this normally. Fushimi mutters that he doesn’t like that either, saying that if Yata’s not here he’s leaving. Except as he turns to go he gets overcome by a wave of dizziness and starts to faint, Mikoto swoops in without even seeming to move and catches him.
When Fushimi wakes up he’s in Mikoto’s bed above the bar and Mikoto’s just chilling in the chair next to him all so you’re finally awake huh. Fushimi asks what happened and Mikoto says he fainted from the fever. Yata’s stuck at home for the moment and S4 had an emergency so they can’t spare anyone to come get him, meaning it looks like Fushimi’s under Mikoto’s care for the time being. Fushimi claims that he can get back to S4 himself, trying to get out of bed. Except he’s still dizzy and Mikoto pretty easily grabs him and deposits him back in the bed. Fushimi mutters that since when are you a nursemaid and Mikoto smiles slightly as he’s like guess I am now. Fushimi isn’t sure he’s going to survive this, like do you even know how to take care of sick people and Mikoto just shrugs, which does not instill confidence in Fushimi (well, not like he really knows how to do it either, so he can’t even give instructions besides ‘whatever Misaki usually does’).
Mikoto is smart enough to call Kusanagi for instructions, Kusanagi is somewhat amused that Mikoto’s gotten selected to take care of sick Fushimi and tells him where the thermometer is and how to make an ice pack. Mikoto heads back into his room, before Fushimi can start complaining again Mikoto just shoves the thermometer in his mouth and tells him to be quiet for once. Fushimi sits there pouting with his thermometer while Mikoto puts the ice pack on his forehead, Fushimi making small irritated noises because he can’t open his mouth. Finally the thermometer beeps and Mikoto pulls it out to check the fever, Fushimi already claiming that he’s feeling better and can go home. His temperature is still high though so Mikoto pushes him back down to the bed to sleep while he goes to get something to eat. Kusanagi walks him through heating up canned soup, which he probably brings up to Fushimi still in the can rather than a bowl. Fushimi glares at him while eating his soup, wondering if Mikoto even knows how to cook food properly. Mikoto says Kusanagi usually does that and Fushimi figures he must really be sick because that almost sounded sheepish.
Fushimi falls back asleep and at first he’s kicking off all his blankets because he’s hot. Mikoto comes to check on him again and now Fushimi’s shivering, trying to pull the blankets back on but he can’t reach them all on the floor. Mikoto doesn’t even bother with the blankets, just climbs in the bed and pulls Fushimi against his chest. Fushimi makes this soft noise and cuddles into him, Mikoto figures he can stay here for a while until things calm down. An hour or two later Fushimi wakes up, murmuring ‘hot…’ and wondering if he can go get an ice pack himself, which is when he realizes that he’s being hugged by Suoh Mikoto. He immediately starts struggling and Mikoto yawns all lazily as he’s like you’re up huh, guess I’ll get the thermometer. He stands up, leaving Fushimi there all red faced, thinking that if he feels so much better than why is his face still so hot.

SQUID GAME AU lmaooo, I can just imagine the chaos of it all; Mikoto not really caring much about anything, Munakata trying to be strategic about the games, Totsuka kind of just vibing and hoping for the best, Saruhiko's only incentive to survive being to make sure Misaki doesn't get killed UGHHH man, and then they have the marble game against each other 😭😭😚
Honestly my first thought with this is Yata probably wins because everyone else keeps sacrificing themselves for him (which is not to say that Yata wouldn't be willing to sacrifice himself but more that he's a lot slower on the uptake when it comes to that). Totsuka probably dies in the first game because, well, Totsuka, Yata's like crying over him and Fushimi has to push Yata over the finish line. I'm imagining this in like a no-powers sort of AU, like maybe Fushimi's in debt due to Niki owing some mafia guys money or something while Yata's trying to help his family who are going to be evicted from their home. Yata and Fushimi are childhood friends and Yata assumes Fushimi went to some fancy college and is successful now, while Fushimi is really trying to keep Yata away from his business so that Yata doesn't get dragged into it. Yata works with Mikoto, who needs to get money to keep his friend Kusanagi's bar from being bought by like some evil rich guys while Totsuka also has lots of family debts from his gambler adopted dad. Munakata would be a politician caught up in a bribery scandal plotted by his political rivals who want to ruin him, Fushimi works for him and maybe Fushimi being Niki's son is part of how Munakata got caught in that web. Munakata also knows Mikoto fairly well and finds it unsurprising that such a person would owe great debts of money, what with his inability to be responsible and all that.
So they all get pulled into the squid game thing and I definitely imagine Munakata dragging Mikoto's ass through a couple games while Fushimi keeps trying to keep Yata safe while making it look like he hates Yata and doesn't want anything to do with him. Like Munakata gets to bodily drag Mikoto across the finish line in the first game because Mikoto doesn't even want to bother with these stupid kid games, luckily he gets the easy shape in the second game and probably like accidentally breaks it just right when he tosses it onto the ground. Imagine Fushimi figures out what the second game is and sees Yata in the umbrella line so he gets in the same line and starts taunting Yata and badmouthing him about how he doesn't want an idiot in the same line as him until Yata finally gets pissed off and storms over into the triangle line with Mikoto-san instead. Afterward Yata finds himself wondering if Fushimi knew and did that on purpose, Yata definitely would've lost if he'd gotten the umbrella – but there's no way, right, Saruhiko couldn't have guessed (meanwhile Munakata also did the umbrella and figured out the trick with licking the honeycomb, he notes that Fushimi picked the hardest line and made Yata move and Fushimi refuses to admit that was on purpose at all).
Tug of war they all end up on the same team and Yata and Fushimi squabble the whole time even as Munakata comes up with the brilliant plan for them to win (Mikoto ignores the plan and beats the other team through sheer brute force and Munakata's rather irritated, Mikoto's just like *shrugs* 'We won, didn't we?'). The marble game is where it gets super painful no matter what mix you put everyone in – I'm thinking out of the Yata-Fushimi-Mikoto-Munakata group Yata wins every game, Fushimi wins against both Kings but loses against Yata, Munakata beats Mikoto and Mikoto always loses. Mikoto definitely throws it to whoever he's playing, though he's kinder about it to poor Yata and he probably makes Munakata wait for it. Like they're doing marble guessing and it looks like Munakata's won but then Mikoto has one marble left, he decides to stop and take a nap and Munakata's following him all 'Suoh, we need to finish the game,' and then at the last second Mikoto just grins and puts the last marble in Munakata's palm, telling him that all that yelling is keeping Mikoto awake. Munakata realizes what Mikoto's just done and gets even more angry but Mikoto just waves him away, walking off as one of the attendants goes after him with their gun cocked. (Mikoto also throws the game if he plays against Fushimi and Fushimi is so pissed off by Mikoto daring to be nice to him.)
Fushimi-Yata game would be the saddest, Fushimi definitely finds a way to throw it before Yata can. Yata I think would be resigned to losing if he had to, like imagine he's also down to his last marble and he's just like it's okay Saruhiko, figuring Fushimi can totally win the whole thing because he's so amazing and smart. Then Fushimi clicks his tongue and is like 'Are you an idiot, Misaki? Can't you tell what's going on?'. Yata's all 'huh?' and Fushimi explains that clearly not all the pairs will finish in the allotted time and then they'll be pitted against the remaining teams. Yata's incredulous but Fushimi's saying it with such confidence that Yata gets swept up in it. Fushimi tells Yata to go find a weak team and don't let everyone see he's only got one marble left because he'll be an easy target and he does the thing making Yata a carrying sleeve for his bag, except in this case Fushimi secretly puts all his marbles in Yata's bag before sending him off. Once Yata's out of sight Fushimi walks over to the attendant and shows his empty bag like 'See? I lost. Get it over with already.'
Then if the final comes down to Yata and Munakata I think Munakata throws it, Munakata determined not to win by killing anyone. Yata realizes too late and suddenly he's the last one standing and he doesn’t understand it, like how did all these smart and amazing people like Mikoto and Saruhiko die when he survived, it isn't fair. Or alternate version where Yata and Fushimi end up in the final, Fushimi throws it too, probably going full-on Niki-style asshole taunting Yata into really fighting him because of course initially Yata would refuse. Fushimi probably uses Mikoto's death as a way to trigger Yata's temper and soon they're fighting and he's just letting Yata beat him up because that's what he wants, Yata has to do this so he can win. But even then at the end Yata can't bring himself to do it and tries to get Fushimi to agree with him that they want to quit, which is when Fushimi finally pulls the knife he's been hiding all this time and stabs himself so that Misaki can win and Yata is again left standing there shell-shocked and devastated.

Could you do a angst fushimi being hurt by Niki while yata stands and watches cause he’s so paralyzed with fear let’s say this is the first time he meet Niki I love angst fushimi
Imagine like an AU of their canon meeting, where instead of just teasing Fushimi and threatening Yata Niki actually gets physical with Fushimi and Yata can just sort of stare, like having it right in his face what kind of 'dad' Niki is (also I think this would double freak Fushimi out, not because he himself is being hurt but the thought that Yata won't want to talk to him anymore because he was so scared by Niki, assuming his budding relationship with Yata has already been 'broken' and there's nothing he can do). Like imagine everything goes the way it does in LSW, Yata takes care of sick Fushimi and then falls asleep and wakes up to see Niki there. Niki calls Fushimi down by threatening to stuff a mantis in Yata's mouth and Fushimi comes rushing downstairs, breathing hard and looking pale. Niki laughs that he made Fushimi mad and Fushimi kinda lunges forward to try and push Niki away from Yata, which is when Niki just easily grabs Fushimi by the wrist and twists.
Fushimi cries out and Yata can only stare as Niki taunts Fushimi all 'Oops my hand slipped, did that hurt?'. Fushimi grits out a 'die' and Niki laughs, twisting harder as he says he brought fireworks for them to play with too. He leans in closer to Fushimi as he says that maybe he can let Fushimi set them off, play a game to see if Fushimi burns his hand off first or if his new friend does. Niki laughs again, noting that his little monkey never brings friends over and they should have lots of fun with this one, so much fun Yata will never forget it. Fushimi just freezes even though Niki's still holding him and he's clearly in pain, telling Yata to just leave now. Yata's standing there staring though, his hands are clenched into fists but he can't seem to move. Niki looks over at Yata and says hey your friend has a good look on his face, why don't we play some more, all three of us together.
Fushimi finally manages to wrench himself away from Niki, one hand dangling at his side and clearly injured even as he grabs Yata's wrist with his good hand and drags Yata outside, practically throwing Yata out of the house. Outside they just stare at each other and Fushimi's clearly expecting Yata to just run away, like there's no way anyone could want to stay by his side after seeing that. Yata's still standing there shocked but imagine he finally collects himself and forces a smile, saying he'll see Fushimi at school. Fushimi looks resigned as he's like '...yeah' and then Yata starts talking about how Fushimi should eat the porridge Yata made, and that next time Fushimi should come to Yata's place and Yata will make him even better food. Fushimi looks up, surprised, and Yata gives him this sincere smile, telling Fushimi to feel better soon. Fushimi fumbles his way to a 'thank you' like in canon and Yata eventually leaves, Fushimi still standing there outside the door for a while in disbelief that Yata still wants to be his friend. Yata meanwhile heads home all quiet and subdued, fists still shaking in frustration that all he could do was stand there, he couldn't protect Fushimi at all, and Yata silently vows that he'll never fail to protect Fushimi again.

We know that there's two way to kill a king, 1. Killed by fellow kings (Mikoto, Iwa-san?), 2. Willingly killed by his subordinate (Habari Jin), by that probably means allow himself to be killed by his own aura. On Mikoto's case, there's no clansmen who was willing to kill Mikoto and maybe they are content to die along with his king, but Fushimi still can use his red aura, he's already labeled as traitor, and he more or less understand that second Kagutsu Crater incident will be very very bad. So what if he killed Mikoto (and Mikoto accepted it) with red aura so Munakata did not receive burden of killing kings? How will this change his relationship with Yata, Kusanagi, and Munakata?
Ooh, this would be interesting (and traumatizing!). Maybe in this AU Fushimi and Yata don't evacuate with everyone else and keep on fighting instead, and Colorless manages to get out of Shiro's grasp long enough to attack Munakata and knock him out before he can kill Mikoto. So now Mikoto's got an unstable Sword that's going to fall at any time and he needs someone to kill him. He walks back to the main Ashinaka campus dragging Munakata, complaining at him for falling asleep at the worst time, and that's when he comes upon Fushimi alone. Yata's already run off, like when Mikoto killed Colorless it could be seen from far enough away that it actually got Yata and Fushimi to stop fighting and Yata ran into the woods to go find Mikoto. Fushimi realizes that they must have passed each other and that means Misaki is still in the line of fire if Mikoto's Sword falls. Mikoto sets Munakata down in front of Fushimi and tells Fushimi to get out of here, his King will take care of this once he wakes up.
Fushimi realizes though that Munakata killing Mikoto won't be without consequence and he bitterly grips his sword as he's like you're really the worst you know, making other people take care of your problems. Mikoto just accepts that with a nod and Fushimi stands, holding up his sword as he complains about how pointless this is. Mikoto realizes what Fushimi intends to do and he just sighs like you think you can do it. Fushimi says of course he can, trying to disguise the way his hands and voice are shaking. Mikoto shakes his head because he really didn't want this, it isn't Fushimi's burden to bear, but there's not much other choice either. He holds open his arms and tells Fushimi to go ahead already. Fushimi's just shaking obviously now, anger and irritation and fear and maybe this tinge of regret and finally he manages to move forward, stabbing Mikoto right through the chest (and as Mikoto falls he still apologizes to Anna but maybe he apologizes to Fushimi too, that this final and worst duty had to fall to him).
Fushimi's just sitting there in the aftermath, staring down at Mikoto's dead body and holding his bloody sword and he's probably at least somewhat roughed up himself, I imagine that since killing a King is so difficult normally even in cases where he's accepting it that probably isn't without consequences for the person who does the deed. Maybe Munakata wakes up shortly after and he realizes at one glance what Fushimi's done, his face softening in worry as he puts a hand on Fushimi's shoulder. Fushimi's too shell-shocked to brush him off and that's when Yata finally shows up, just in time to see that Mikoto's lying there dead and Saruhiko is covered in blood and even Yata realizes what must have happened. I feel like Yata would react emotionally to this first and in a bad way, like he's not quite in the headspace to realize that Fushimi only did what he had to and instead Yata's just yelling 'how could you, you traitor' before he can even stop to think. Fushimi's head lolls back at the sound of Yata's voice, just giving this crooked broken smile like that's right Misaki, keep looking at me with those eyes, right before he finally passes out in Munakata's arms.
In the aftermath this would definitely make things tense, Munakata probably feeling like he somewhat failed as a King by making Fushimi bear this burden while Yata's still dealing with all the tangled emotions of knowing his hero was killed by his best friend. Kusanagi I think would have mixed feelings himself, like he knows that this is what Mikoto wanted and in a distant way he's concerned about Fushimi's well being in all of this but at the same time he's got his own pain and grief and he doesn't really have space to worry about anyone else. I feel like Anna might take Fushimi's role in this a little lighter, in a way, than she did with Munakata, like I can't really see her doing the 'I won't hate you but I won't thank you for it' line to him because she knows very well how poorly Fushimi is taking all this. I think Fushimi would definitely be trying to paint himself as having wanted to kill Mikoto, like gosh it was just so pathetic he let me stab him, using that to try and rile Misaki up and also mask his own real feelings about the whole thing. Yata at first falls for it too, so angry that Fushimi could do this, but then eventually realizing that he didn't understand Mikoto and that this is what Mikoto wanted, and that by blaming Fushimi he's really just pushing off all his own feelings of being powerless on someone who had no choice in things either.

Teen parents!AU, So Minoru's class held parents' conference with teacher, normally Yata is the one who will go but this conference overlapped with his part time job. Minoru is bullied by his classmates because he is orphan so he threw tantrum to Yata. He decided to call Fushimi instead, asking him to come to the conference meeting as his parent. Fushimi can emphatized what Minoru feels, but his work is overloaded this week. Alphabet squad eavesdropped Fushimi's conservation and decided to help
Alphabet squad realizing that Fushimi is a teenage parent and wanting to help him out, so kind~ Like say post-betrayal Yata's been taking care of the kids and it's been a bit rougher now without Fushimi there, he's just a single parent now trying to raise Minoru and Megumi on his own. Yata's doing his best but he doesn't always have time to do 'parent stuff' either, since he has to deal with his part time job and of course Homra business on top of that. He still tries his best but there's only so much he can do when he's not even a grown up himself, I imagine Homra maybe helping out a little with Minoru and Megumi (I could see Kusanagi's Free Babysitting Service being a thing in this AU) but there are some things they need Yata for.
One day Minoru's parent teacher conference is scheduled but Yata can't go, he has to work and he's already taken time off for stuff as it is, there's no way he can ask for another day. Minoru knows that Yata's busy but he's also just a kid and still hurting over the loss of his parents plus Fushimi leaving and he kinda lashes out at Yata, complaining that he gets bullied for not having parents and won't this make it worse, that no one can come to his school conference. Poor Yata feels like shit about that too but there's not much he can do just because he has to work and he can't lose this job, he's already asking for too much from Homra as it is and he doesn't want to have to like beg for money just so he can keep up with rent and food and all that. Minoru realizes a moment after his outburst that he sounds like a bratty kid and he apologizes, like he's old enough that he knows what Yata's dealing with and he's been trying to be more mature himself to help with Megumi but it still stings that he doesn't really 'have' a parent.
Yata says he'll try to come and Minoru tells him not to bother, he'll just tell the teacher no one can come. Once he's alone though Minoru decides to try and call Fushimi, since Fushimi's still been sending the kids presents and things and keeping in touch with them without Yata knowing. Fushimi's also overloaded with work and he probably feels awkward about being the 'parent' anyway, since he's like the wife who walked out on her husband but the kids are still calling him behind their father's back. Minoru's like come on Saru please, trying his best to do sad puppy eyes through the phone and Fushimi sighs and says he has to finish this work first and he doubts he'll be able to leave on time to make the conference.
However while Fushimi's talking with Minoru as it happens the alphabet squad have just returned from a mission and they overhear him talking, imagine them all just clustered by the door eavesdropping and whispering together. Everyone's very shocked to hear Fushimi apparently talking to a kid and just imagine the rumors flying, like OMG Fushimi-san is a teen parent he has a kid who do you think the mother is were they married did something happen. Of course they're all very sympathetic suddenly, like Fushimi's so young they figure he must not have known what he was doing and isn't it sad that he can't even see his child. Kamo in particular is extremely moved and decides he must do something, as Fushimi hangs up the phone he steps into the room and says he will take Fushimi's work so that Fushimi can leave early today. Fushimi's all 'eh?' and the rest of the squad jumps in too, like don't worry about a thing Fushimi-san we will finish this for you. Fushimi has no idea why they're all suddenly so enthusiastic, he's practically pushed out the door and he assumes they must all be up to something stupid but as long as he's free he sighs and figures he should go to Minoru's parent teacher conference (Minoru is thrilled when Fushimi shows up, the teacher is confused because she thought Minoru was being raised by his short red-haired brother. Minoru keeps calling Fushimi 'big brother' also though and so she assumes Fushimi must be Yata's husband and treats him accordingly).

Angst it is :D So imagine no powers AU where Fushimi and Yata just join normal gang Homra, Yata's still got major hero worship for Mikoto because Mikoto's this super cool gang leader and a strong fighter and basically everything Yata thinks a hero should be. Fushimi meanwhile knows he doesn't fit in from the start (and in this AU I could see him being more reluctant to join Homra and likely doing so largely because Yata does, in canon we know he wants powers so that he can become stronger but I feel like in world without powers he would be less interested in joining Homra because the only 'strength' that's gained is the strength of numbers and Fushimi isn't interested in that at all, in a place where he's still just as weak as before and it's only reputation and his fellow gang members that bring him any strength at all). He only manages to stay in the gang as long as he does for Yata's sake and finally he decides to just leave and cut ties from Yata completely. Maybe local politician Munakata convinces Fushimi to join his special police force which just so happens to deal with gangs like Homra and Yata can't believe that Fushimi's betraying Homra that way, Fushimi scoffs because of course that's all Yata's worried about, betraying 'Homra.'
The two of them still tend to fight when they run into each other but it's more verbal than anything, since they don't have powers in this AU I see it as more arguing with each other and Fushimi like verbally twisting the knife about what a useless gang Yata's joined. Yata doesn't understand why Fushimi hates Homra so much and why Fushimi left him, like to Yata nothing changed when they joined Homra so why did things change for Fushimi. Yata's determined to understand what happened and it's during one of these fights that Yata gets injured, like imagine Yata asking Fushimi again why he left and Fushimi refuses to say, trying to walk away. Yata grabs him by the arm all 'don't walk away from me, monkey,' determined not to let Fushimi escape so easily. Fushimi jerks his hand away, snapping at Yata not to touch him as he kinda shoves Yata back. As it happens they're standing at the top of some steps and when Yata stumbles back he loses his footing, tumbling down the stairs (and he can't be sure, with the world spinning around him, but Yata almost thinks he hears Saruhiko yelling his name, and that the last thing he sees before everything goes dark is Saruhiko's hand reaching for him).
Yata wakes up in a hospital bed, all on his own. He gets up, wondering where he is and what happened, walking out the door where a bunch of the Homra guys are all scattered around the waiting room. Yata asks what they're all doing here and no one replies, Yata's about to ask again when Kusanagi walks in with Mikoto saying something about '...they don't know when Yata will wake up.' Yata's like I did wake up I'm fine but they don't even acknowledge him, Yata turns to look back into the room and there's his body still lying in the bed, bandages over his head and hooked up to machines, unconscious. Yata has a small freakout about this, like for a moment he thinks that his body died and he's a ghost but then he realizes that the heart monitor is still beating. He can't seem to get back into his body though and he doesn't know what to do, apparently it's been nearly a week since he was injured and his body hasn't moved at all in that time. He kinda paces around the room for a while, not sure what to do and trying to remember what happened. He suddenly recalls that Fushimi was the one who accidentally pushed him and he realizes that Fushimi isn't here either. Part of him is upset that Fushimi couldn't even visit him in the hospital but that's overridden by the part of him that's worried about Saruhiko so he decides to go find Fushimi.
Yata knows that Fushimi's living by himself in an apartment now and he kinda hovers his way to Fushimi's workplace to try and find the address. He's even more worried when he sees that Fushimi isn't at work, Fushimi's coworkers are all talking amongst themselves wondering if Fushimi's sick because he's called off the last few days. They discuss sending someone to check on him while Yata's just floating around all agitated yelling at them to tell him Saruhiko's address already. Finally someone mentions where Fushimi lives and immediately Yata's off to find him. He floats right through the door, thinking that hey maybe this ghost thing isn't all bad and then he just stops and stares because Fushimi's apartment is a total mess, like it's clear that Fushimi hasn't cleaned this place in an age. Yata's all I knew that idiot couldn't take care of himself as he looks around for Fushimi.
He finds Fushimi sitting under a blanket just idly scrolling on his computer, not really looking at anything or even seeming to pay much attention to what he's doing. His phone rings, a coworker, but he doesn't answer and Yata can tell that he looks awful, like he's paler than usual and his eyes are kinda sunken. Yata's all worried, asking him when he last ate and have you slept at all but of course Fushimi can't hear him. Yata knows he probably needs to go back to his body at some point but he's too worried, he doesn't want to leave Fushimi until he knows that Fushimi's going to take care of himself. Yata keeps hovering around the apartment trying to make himself heard but nothing works, he can only watch as Fushimi sits there not eating and not sleeping and Yata doesn't know what he can do to fix this.
It's already past midnight when Fushimi just kinda falls back into bed, half passed out and just staring up at the ceiling. Yata hovers over him and leans on the pillow, reaching out for Fushimi as he murmurs 'what can I do to make you believe this isn't your fault?'. Fushimi turns blurry eyes on him and murmurs 'it is my fault,' putting a hand over his face. Yata immediately almost jumps up as he's like wait you can hear me. Fushimi tells him to shut up, he's not Misaki and Fushimi doesn't need his own mind to make up a Misaki for him, he's not so weak. Yata insists that he is really himself, like come on Saruhiko you know it's me I'm here to tell you to stop being an idiot and eat something. Fushimi's still lying there with a hand over his face as he mumbles out 'You're not Misaki. Misaki would have gone there first.'
Yata's confused like gone where and Fushimi finally looks at him, eyes bright and feverish even as his voice is ice cold saying 'Homra.' Yata's shocked by that, like what the hell makes you think I'd go there huh. Fushimi blearily mumbles that of course Yata would go there, the place he chose over Fushimi, the people he chose over Fushimi. Yata's like wait is that what you really thought all this time and Fushimi's like half delirious as he starts admitting everything he's hidden all this time, how he felt his place was taken away, how of course Yata chose Homra over him because why wouldn't he, how Fushimi thought for sure they were going to break apart so he broke it first, and Yata's just watching him wide-eyed and upset that he never knew any of this until now (and then maybe Fushimi throws up and passes out and now Yata's really worried, because Fushimi needs help and there’s no one around so the only thing he can do is rush back to his body, trying to make himself wake up because he needs to save Saruhiko).

BSD Dead Apple AU where every character is facing a crisis of their powers turning against them, even the enemies will experience the same problems
I'm imagining maybe this would be like a Strain whose ability can make other people's powers go wild, and it's strong enough that even Kings and clansmen will be affected. The problem begins with just a few Strains in the city causing trouble and Scepter 4 getting dispatched down to Shizume to subdue them. Fushimi and Awashima are sent down to coordinate the squad and they start noticing problems almost immediately, like the Strains are acting oddly and claiming that they can't control their own powers. Awashima and the alphabet squad decide to further investigate, leaving Fushimi back at the vans to keep an eye on the communications. He's talking with Awashima when the feed suddenly cuts off and Fushimi can't get ahold of anyone, everybody's comms have gone dark. He tells one of the S4 rank and file guys in the van with him to contact Munakata while heading out himself to figure out what's going on.
Fushimi's trying to track where everyone's gone when he spots like this flash of Blue power from nearby. Fushimi immediately follows the trail and stumbles upon Awashima, who's trying to fight what looks like a version of herself that's created entirely of Blue power. Fushimi moves in to help and Awashima tries to wave him away, warning him that he needs to be careful. Fushimi's about to ask her what she means when this random guy runs at him and tackles him to the ground. Fushimi reaches for a knife and the guy gives him a wide grin like 'oh, you'll be an interesting one' as he puts a hand on Fushimi's arm. Fushimi feels this jolt of power that makes him nearly pass out, reeling dizzily as the Strain gets to his feet and runs off. Fushimi tries to follow but he's suddenly attacked by a wave of Red power. Fushimi just manages to avoid it, looking up to see what appears to be himself created out of swirling Red and Blue powers. Fushimi clicks his tongue like this is such a pain and takes off running, with the power!Fushimi following after.
As Fushimi's trying to figure out what his next move should be he ends up almost running into Yata, Homra's heard about all the chaos going on and he was sent to investigate. Yata's immediately on guard seeing Fushimi running this way, Fushimi yells at him to just go away because Fushimi doesn't have time to deal with idiots today. Yata's like wait who are you calling an idiot asshole and anyway what's going on, he's barely gotten the words out when the power!Fushimi rounds the corner. Yata's like what the fuck is that and power!Fushimi suddenly turns and looks at him and Yata could swear it smiles. Immediately power!Fushimi stops chasing regular Fushimi and attacks Yata instead, Yata barely able to dodge as these knives made of Blue and Red power come flying at him. Fushimi glances back at where Yata's being attacked and pauses, knowing this would be the perfect time to escape. Finally he clicks his tongue like this is so stupid as he turns and jumps back into the fray, grabbing Yata and throwing him aside in order to avoid his own powers.
Elsewhere Munakata's gone to investigate things himself and he runs into Mikoto down in the city. Munakata's surprised that Mikoto would actually bother to get off the couch to do some work himself, Mikoto thinks Munakata just can't resist sticking his nose into everything. Suddenly someone runs between them, smirking as his hands hit Munakata and Mikoto both in the chest. The Strain doesn't even stop running, laughing at the destruction this will be sure to cause as Munakata's and Mikoto's powers start to go wild. Two Swords of Damocles appear in the sky and then suddenly there are two matching Swords beside them, one glowing Red and the other glowing Blue. A Blue Munakata and a Red Mikoto stand there in front of the actual Kings, both burning with bright light and just leaking power everywhere. Munakata pushes up his glasses and notes that this appears to be a problem and Mikoto just cracks his knuckles and says he's been looking forward to this as he steps forward and aims a punch straight at power!Munakata's face.

Mikoto has to supervise a tiny Yata who's on a sugar high in addition to be naturally hyper and Mikotos praying for the sugar crash to come asap. Later they go to the park to burn off energy and meet tiny Saru under Munakatas care. Afterwords they each carry home their exhausted children with promise to arrange more play dates.
I assume this is AU with Mikoto raising tiny Yata and Munakata raising tiny Fushimi and they hook up while the tiniest Sarumi ensues behind them? Because I like that AU :D Imagine Mikoto having to deal with sugar high Yata who has so much energy – or actually, imagine Kusanagi having to deal with him and scolding Mikoto for not doing anything about it, like I could totally see Mikoto letting the kid run around breaking things and climbing on stuff while Mikoto himself just sits there napping figuring as long as Yata doesn’t kill himself it’s fine (if he gets hurt he’ll learn not to do it again, right). Mikoto spends half his time in the bar and he brings the kid with him because he doesn’t have a babysitter, Kusanagi’s fine with that but he keeps missing the part where Totsuka likes to give the child lollipops and hard candy and pixie stix and eventually the sugar high creeps in. Mikoto tries to take a nap but Yata’s running around pretending to be a superhero, Kusanagi’s trying to keep him from climbing the liquor cabinet and Mikoto’s getting yelled at for not watching his kid better. Finally Kusanagi manages to catch Yata by the shirt collar, depositing him on Mikoto’s chest and telling him to take the kid to the park so he can work his energy out. Mikoto grumps about it a little like why do I have to and Kusanagi’s like because he’s your responsibility while tiny Yata gives Mikoto this wide happy smile (probably missing a few teeth too and his hands are all sticky and he’s so cute). Mikoto tucks the kid under his arm like Yata’s a duffel bag and heads out for the nearest park.
Meanwhile Munakata has also taken his tiny child to work, Fushimi keeps sitting in the corner playing quietly and not causing any trouble which is starting to concern the rest of the force because they’re trying to get him to play or have a snack and Fushimi keeps hiding behind things and staring blankly at his PDA. Of course Munakata also wishes to bond with his adorable small child and has probably been waiting all day for a good break time to that he could take Fushimi to the park and they can bond as only a guardian and child can. When he tells Fushimi they’re going to the park, all while smiling proudly and sparkling, Fushimi just nods and looks back at his PDA and even someone as indulgent as Munakata has to take the thing away. Fushimi sulks even more while Munakata takes his hand and happily leads him to the park, telling him to go run and have fun like a small child would. Fushimi finds a swing, sits on it and doesn’t move.
Munakata’s ready to go push him on the swing a little when tiny Yata comes running up like a dive bomb and gives Fushimi this big huge push that makes the swing go flying. Once the swing moves back down Fushimi manages to stop it from moving again and he’s staring out with wide eyes like what the hell was that an attack. Yata’s standing there right in front of him with one sticky hand outstretched asking Fushimi to play with him. Fushimi clicks his tongue and says ‘annoying,’ going to play with some ants in the dirt. Yata comes running over and starts playing with sticks and dirt too, grinning as he says that Fushimi’s interesting and Yata wants to play with him. Fushimi’s eyes go wide because no one’s ever said that to him and soon he’s being dragged around by Yata as the sugar high works itself out.
Meanwhile Mikoto throws himself on a bench and tries to rest, Munakata sits beside him and notes the small red-haired child seems to have had quite a lot of sugar. Mikoto grunts and glares at him as Munakata smiles widely and wonders if his Fushimi-kun has found a friend. Mikoto shrugs, not really into the parent gossip thing, but Munakata keeps talking the whole time and it’s annoying but also can be slept through at least so Mikoto figures it could be worse. By the time Yata’s reached the sugar crash Fushimi’s all worn out too and both parents go to collect their kids. Munakata is pleased that Fushimi made a friend and requests Mikoto’s contact info so that they may set a later play date. Mikoto’s not really into giving Munakata his number but he also figures Yata did like playing with the gloomy kid so he agrees and Munakata is so ready to schedule many play dates into Fushimi’s daily schedule.

Fushimi... Being the MAIN SOURCE OF POWER THAT DESCENDS TO THE SLATE!!! Every night, while Niki or Kisa ain't there; Fushimi recharges the states that provide the kings powers. But while he was still a kid, some? Of the kings wanted more power from it that it broke Saru T-T Which causes the kings death to the sword every time. (Post betrayal) they found out and fix him. Reisaru and Mikosaru? Same story if possible. Thanks!!!
Oh maybe Fushimi’s actually similar to Slate-kun from Circle Vision somehow but then when Kagutsu’s Damocles Down happens Fushimi forgets all of that and becomes unaware that he’s actually connected to the Slate. Like say somehow a piece of the Slate broke off while Kisa was pregnant and the ‘spirit’ of the Slate like merged with her baby, so Fushimi’s born with a part of the Slate inside of him. He’s somewhat aware of it, like he’s connected to the Slate and can 'hear’ it in the back of his mind all the time. Every night he’s able to like speak with it and help recharge it using his own life force, which is unnaturally strong due to the piece of the Slate inside of him. He secretly thinks of it as like his own kind of superpower, that he can’t get away from Niki but at least he has this one secret to himself and knows that actually there’s more to him than anyone else realizes. But then when Kagutsu’s Damocles Down happens both Kagutsu and Habari end up drawing so much power from the Slate that it overloads Fushimi’s abilities and maybe he has like this sudden seizure. Afterward Fushimi no longer remembers anything about his previous abilities and maybe his mental state suffers as well, throwing him into even deeper depression than normal and with this feeling always in the back of his mind like he’s lost a part of himself and he can’t figure out what it is.
Afterward Fushimi meets Yata like in canon and eventually they join Homra. In this AU the reason for Fushimi being nervous around Mikoto is because the power of the Slate within him is reacting to Mikoto as a King. Fushimi doesn’t know why he keeps feeling short of breath whenever he sees Mikoto and he assumes that he’s afraid but really it’s because all this overwhelming King power resonates with his inner self and makes him excited. Maybe then in this AU it does lead to some Mikosaru where Fushimi keeps being drawn more and more to Mikoto even as he tries to tell himself that Mikoto’s the one who’s ruining everything for him by taking Misaki’s gaze away. At some point maybe being close to Mikoto too starts to awaken some of Fushimi’s old powers and abilities, like one day the two of them are alone and Fushimi finds himself moving closer to the sleeping Mikoto without realizing it. Suddenly Mikoto has one of his nightmares of destruction and suddenly Fushimi’s body starts like seizing with multicolored light which flows into Mikoto, stabilizing his crumbling Sword. Mikoto’s eyes flash open just as Fushimi collapses into his arms, Fushimi with no memory at all of what he’s just done.
So then when the betrayal happens Fushimi goes to Scepter 4 and he has strange feelings around Munakata too, drawn to him for reasons that Fushimi can’t explain. Say in this AU that because of Fushimi’s abilities he’s actually able to unconsciously save Mikoto’s life at the end of S1, like before Mikoto’s Sword can fall it suddenly starts to re-form itself, Fushimi collapses again mysteriously and Mikoto ends up in a coma through the rest of ROK. After they destroy the Slate, that’s when Mikoto and Munakata figure out what’s actually happening with Fushimi, like imagine they destroy the Slate and suddenly Fushimi like clutches his head and almost collapses. In the aftermath Mikoto wakes up from his coma but Fushimi’s been getting noticeably weaker and his personality is deteriorating as well, like where he should be getting better and not hating himself anymore instead he’s pushing people away even more than before and he keeps having like sudden fainting spells or having moments where he just starts staring at nothing. Munakata and Mikoto can both feel that there’s some connection between them still though and the two of them begin to realize that Fushimi has a connection to the Slate and that he’s being affected by its loss (and maybe they have to use their remaining fading powers to recharge him in order to help him recover and we get MikoReiSaru this time :3c).

Yata's mom was a ninja AU. Yata is a ninja.
Suddenly Munakata is like way more interested in Yata than he was before XD Like say Yata’s mom is from a ninja clan similar to Douhan but she left the clan after she got married and had a child. She had to change her name and everything to keep her old clan from finding her and she also decides to teach her kid ninja skills in order to keep him safe. Maybe she only teaches Yata too, like Yata’s dad was also an enemy of the ninja clan and they had this starcrossed lovers thing going on but then he eventually leaves her and she decides she wants to be a normal housewife. She continues to teach Yata things on the sly and drills it into his head that he must never use his skills unless there’s absolutely no choice, like little Yata totally wants to go out and be a ninja hero of justice and she tells him in no uncertain terms that if he does that her old ninja clan will surely find them and take her away from him.
So then when Yata meets Fushimi in middle school and sees him being beaten up by bullies maybe in this AU Yata actually wins that fight by very subtly using his ninja skills, it looks like he’s just throwing punches wildly but he’s actually being very deliberate in how he places his blows and his stance. He thinks he’s being all sneaky but then he’s shocked when Fushimi stares at him suspiciously, having clearly noted what Yata just did. Yata tries to play it off as having taken like some karate courses or something and Fushimi just clicks his tongue and is like ‘whatever your issue is it has nothing to do with me.’ Maybe then when they become friends Yata actually confides in Fushimi that his mom is secretly a ninja and has trained him in ninjitsu, Fushimi however totally doesn’t believe him and thinks it’s just Misaki being stupid, even though he saw Yata fight that time it wasn’t what he would expect of a ninja skill. Yata insists that it’s true and Fushimi patronizes him a little, Yata sulks but he doesn’t push it further because he sees his mom glaring at him from across the room and he doesn’t want to get in trouble for giving away secrets.
Then maybe when the surprise party happens instead of needing to yell to Mikoto for help Yata’s pulling out all his ninja skills to try and save Fushimi, all while Fushimi stares at him blankly. In the end Mikoto still has to save him and now Fushimi is extra depressed because not only did he fail but he was outclassed by both the Red King – who at least has powers beyond what Fushimi could hope for – and Misaki of all people and Fushimi is just filled with more self loathing than usual. Homra probably thinks it’s cool though that Yata has ninja skills, like Totsuka’s all ready to have Yata teach him some ninja moves because it sounds like a fun hobby. Also please imagine Yata versus Douhan during MK but this time it’s like a ninja-off, the two of them pulling out every trick they have to try and beat each other and Douhan immediately recognizes Yata’s fighting style and knows whose child he must be. (Also in this AU imagine Munakata basically trying to mold Fushimi into his own personal ninja because he’s so jealous that Suoh has an actual real ninja and he wants one of his own, and Fushimi goes along with it because he’ll do anything that allows him to go toe to toe with Yata as an equal in a fight.)

Au where yata is the heir to the yakuza?
So maybe Yata’s bio dad was the head of a yakuza gang, Yata’s momdidn’t know when she married him and he tried to keep her fromfinding out because it would put both her and the child in danger. Then maybe someone from a rival gang finds out that Yata’s dad ismarried and he has to leave his wife and child behind in order tosave their lives. Yata’s mom though thinks he just walked out and soshe doesn’t keep many pictures of him around the house or anythingand she always tells Yata that his dad was just a deadbeat who didn’trealize what a wonderful child he had. Yata grows up being loved byhis mom and by his stepdad, though like in canon he always feels alittle left out and like he’s the only one in the house who doesn’tquite belong. What he doesn’t know is that his dad is still secretlykeeping an eye on him and his mom just in case, like living acrossthe street from Yata is this cool guy named Mikoto and his bestfriends Kusanagi and Totsuka and Yata talks with them all the timeand they’re actually related to the yakuza gang that Yata’s dad ishead of. Their families were part of the yakuza and though the threeof them rarely deal with anything from that world themselves (thoughKusanagi has some occasional shady dealings going on and Mikoto’sknown for being a good enforcer in the right circumstances) theyagreed to watch over the boss’s family since it seemed like an easyenough assignment, they didn’t quite expect to get attached to thetiny angry ball of sunshine that is Yata Misaki.
Then when Yata’s in middle school he meets Fushimi and they becomefriends, Fushimi’s wary about actually becoming close with someonethough because his parents are also involved with the yakuza (imagineNiki’s like a hitman and Kisa does a lot of vaguely illegal weaponsexporting) and Fushimi thinks that anyone who gets close to him islikely to end up dead. Yata manages to break into Fushimi’s littleworld despite that and the two of them become friends. Fushimiconvinces Yata to move out of his house and share an apartment withhim, Fushimi thinking that this way he can hide Yata from Niki.Except what happens is this ends up inadvertently alerting some ofthe other yakuza gangs to Yata’s presence, like the place they gettheir apartment from has yakuza ties and someone spots Yata at somepoint and recognizes him as the person who was rumored to be the sonof a recently-deceased yakuza head. The informant then leaks theinformation to one of the strongest yakuza gangs in the area, jungle, and boss Hisui Nagare decides that they should attack the apartmentand kidnap Yata so that they can use him as leverage against theother gangs. Hisui stages the whole attack under the guise of a bunchof school kids rioting, Yata and Fushimi try to escape the chaos andsuddenly Fushimi is pushed down and Yata is grabbed by some bigenforcer type. That’s when Mikoto shows up out of nowhere and takesthe rival guys down, saving Yata and Fushimi in the process. Yata’sthankful but really confused as to why Mikoto’s there, which is whenKusanagi walks over looking all sheepish as he says he supposesYata’s their boss now.
Upon learning that he is apparently heir to a giant gang Yata’s superconfused but also maybe a little excited, like he always wonderedabout his dad and learning that his dad only left because he wantedto keep Yata and his mom safe makes him really happy. He’s upset tolearn that his dad died recently though and totally out of hiselement when he realizes that suddenly he’s expected to take overwhen he has no idea how to do things. He tries to lean on Fushimi abit for help, since Fushimi knows everything, but Fushimi’s havinghis own crisis now that he knows Yata’s also part of the yakuza and arival gang at that, like surely his people know who Fushimi is andthey won’t let him stay by Yata’s side (ooh for extra angst pointsmaybe it turns out Niki killed Yata’s dad but sustained woundshimself that killed him, the whole ‘disease of the internal organs’thing was a cover up). Fushimi also feels like he must be useless toYata now since Yata has this whole group of people at his beck andcall and won’t Fushimi just be a liability, especially since jungle’sstarted making more moves to destroy Yata’s gang. Fushimi insteadgets lured away by another one of the gangs, led by Munakata, believing that by working outside Yata’s group he can actually keepYata safe, like he believes Munakata can keep Hisui in check andcounter any reckless moves Yata might make. Yata of course can’tbelieve Fushimi left him and is blindsided when he’s informed that inthe yakuza, betrayal generally means death and is Yata willing tokill Fushimi for his disloyalty (short answer: nope, no, nothappening).

GreenShimi Au. He was originally in Homra but went missing, Hisui captured him and brainwashed him, He shows up in S2 and Yata is heart broken, he thought Saru was gone forever but he's here now and can't remember Yata or anyone, Post S2 Saru needs some serious therapy to help him remember and when he does it gets angsty real qucik.
Ooh I like this idea. Like say when LSW happens Munakata and Mikotoboth end up being just a little too late to rescue Fushimi fromHisui, Fushimi’s coerced into joining the Greens instead. Maybe henever figures out the virus either so Fushimi’s still hallucinatingand Hisui uses that to his advantage, Fushimi’s all confused andmessed up because he didn’t really want to leave Yata but he alsofeels like he has no place in Homra and never did and he doesn’t knowif Scepter 4 would accept him so he’s basically stuck with jungle.Hisui plays on his fears and uses the Niki hallucination to convinceFushimi that in fact jungle is the only place for him to be,naturally Hisui values free will and is pleased that Fushimi joinedhim but once that choice has been made Hisui doesn’t intend to letFushimi back out of it either. Fushimi then spends the next coupleyears being slowly brainwashed by the constant hallucinationswhispering in his ear that the only place he can belong is jungle, that the only King he can serve is Hisui, that Homra and Yata willnever accept the person he really is and that his only choice is tostay in jungle and work towards achieving Hisui’s dream. By the timeMissing Kings happens Fushimi’s head has been so messed with that hecan barely remember his time in Homra and or even his time with Yata, like maybe he’s been convinced that all his time with Yata was all ahallucination and that he’s always belonged to jungle and Hisui.
Meanwhile to Homra’s eyes Fushimi’s just disappeared and Yata’sutterly heartbroken. Mikoto, Kusanagi and Totsuka are concerned and abit suspicious about this disappearance, in LSW it seems like theysuspect something might be going on with Fushimi and I think hissudden disappearance would make them very concerned about what couldhave been happening under their noses all this time. Naturally Homraputs all their resources towards finding out anything about whereFushimi went or who could have taken him but they can’t findanything. The last person to see Fushimi was Yata, like in LSWFushimi remains in his apartment to try and figure out who’s messingwith him and they have a small fight, Yata leaves and when he returnshours later, unable to get Fushimi to pick up his PDA when Yata triedto call him, he finds the apartment empty. Nothing’s been touched ormoved though, Fushimi’s computer and PDA are missing but all hisother things are there and the sheets aren’t even disturbed on thebed. Yata of course has all this guilt for leaving Fushimi thatnight, even though everyone tells him that there’s no way he couldhave known what would happen next Yata can’t help but think that ifhe’d only stayed there with Fushimi then maybe he wouldn’t have losthis best friend. Yata never stops looking for Fushimi too, even aftersome of the alphabet boys and the rank and file Homra guys have givenFushimi up for dead Yata refuses to forget about him and is alwaystrying to find any clue as to what could have happened, refusing tobelieve that Fushimi might be dead or gone forever. His worst fearand greatest hope come true at the same time when Kamamoto comesrunning into the bar after Mikoto and Totsuka’s deaths to tell Yatathat Anna’s been kidnapped and the kidnapper looked a lot likeFushimi.
Yata then spends the rest of Missing Kings and ROK trying to bringFushimi back, Fushimi doesn’t even recognize him at first and Hisuiprobably keeps telling him that this is all a trick by Homra, tryingto make him believe he was once one of them. Fushimi keeps havingflashes of the memories he’s forgotten though and he keeps pushingthem away, because he’s already given those memories up ashallucinations of a life he’ll never have. Maybe Yata almost getsthrough to him during like the Mihashira raid and Fushimi opens thedoor to jungle’s hideout all on his own because he’s begun to believethat this isn’t really the place he belongs. He’s accepted that thiswill probably lead to his death and he doesn’t care, it’s not like hehas anywhere else to go anyway. Yata comes to save him though andFushimi kinda breaks down in his arms, his mind a mess and feelinglike he doesn’t even know himself because his memories have been soplayed with and manipulated that he can’t tell what’s real and what’sfake anymore.
Post-ROK Fushimi’s still a mess and requires all kinds on therapy inorder to get him back to something like functional. I imagineMunakata maybe offering Scepter 4’s services here, like maybe he andFushimi also interacted some during ROK and that was part of whathelped Fushimi to realize that his memories of Homra and Yata werereal. Munakata of course always remembered the promising kid fromHomra that he wanted to recruit and he’s still intrigued by Fushimieven now, therefore he offers up all of Scepter 4’s resources to helpFushimi get better. Yata’s suspicious but Munakata notes that theyall owe Fushimi a great debt and he wishes to repay that any way hecan. Kusanagi’s also suspicious but he thinks the important thing nowis to get Fushimi healthy, so he and Awashima work together to getFushimi what help they can. Fushimi’s condition is so intertwinedwith the Kings and clans they’re limited in who can be allowed to seehim and they probably have to coordinate with like the Rabbits orShiro in order to get people in who it will be safe for Fushimi totalk to. Yata visits him continually, at first Fushimi doesn’t wantto see him at all because there’s too much pain and confusion therebut slowly he and Yata start to rekindle their lost friendship.Fushimi probably has a lot of low points, like he hates that he wasmanipulated so easily and he thinks that he’s a failure because hecouldn’t even die defeating jungle and had to be saved like somepathetic victim. Yata gets pissed whenever Fushimi says that though, the fact that Fushimi’s alive is still the most important thing inthe world to Yata and he doesn’t care who Fushimi’s been working foror what he’s done, Yata just wants Fushimi to become whole and happyagain.

#sarumi #Talking K #everyone hates niki #including Yata #imagine in this AU this is what pushes Yata to move out with Fushimi #like now that he knows what trash Niki is #all Yata can think about is how he needs to get Saruhiko away from that guy #and he wants to save Fushimi the way Fushimi saved him
Can you imagine the aftermath though? Like, Fushimi is still injured and not like he could leave the hospital right after waking up so he’d have to deal with his dad in the hospital but this time he’s awake and can’t run off and Yata has to double his efforts in trying to protect him.
But that ending though. At least this time, Yata would have a better idea of what kind of life Fushimi is living.
