Oh, you know, just the usual internet browsing experience in the year of 2024
Tumblr media
Some links and explanations since I figured it might be useful to some people, and writing down stuff is nice.
First of all, get Firefox. Yes, it has apps for Android/iOS too. It allows more extensions and customization (except the iOS version), it tracks less, the company has a less shitty attitude about things. Currently all the other alternatives are variations of Chromium, which means no matter how degoogled they supposedly are, Google has almost a monopoly on web browsing and that's not great. Basically they can introduce extremely user unfriendly updates and there's nothing forcing them to not do it, and nowhere for people to escape to. Current examples of their suggested updates are disabling/severly limiting adblocks in June 2024, and this great suggestion to force sites to verify "web environment integrity" ("oh you don't run a version of chromium we approve, such as the one that runs working adblocks? no web for you.").
uBlockOrigin - barely needs any explanation but yes, it works. You can whitelist whatever you want to support through displaying ads. You can also easily "adblock" site elements that annoy you. "Please log in" notice that won't go away? Important news tm sidebar that gives you sensory overload? Bye.
Dark Reader - a site you use has no dark mode? Now it has. Fairly customizable, also has some basic options for visually impaired people.
SponsorBlock for YouTube - highlights/skips (you choose) sponsored bits in the videos based on user submissions, and a few other things people often skip ("pls like and subscribe!"). A bit more controversial than normal adblock since the creators get some decent money from this, but also a lot of the big sponsors are kinda scummy and offer inferior product for superior price (or try to sell you a star jpg land ownership in Scotland to become a lord), so hearing an ad for that for the 20th time is kinda annoying. But also some creators make their sponsored segments hilarious.
Privacy Badger (and Ghostery I suppose) - I'm not actually sure how needed these are with uBlock and Firefox set to block any tracking it can, but that's basically what it does. Find someone more educated on this topic than me for more info.
Https Everywhere - I... can't actually find the extension anymore, also Firefox has this as an option in its settings now, so this is probably obsolete, whoops.
Facebook Container - also comes with Firefox by default I think. Keeps FB from snooping around outside of FB. It does that a lot, even if you don't have an account.
WebP / Avif image converter - have you ever saved an image and then discovered you can't view it, because it's WebP/Avif? You can now save it as a jpg.
YouTube Search Fixer - have you noticed that youtube search has been even worse than usual lately, with inserting all those unrelated videos into your search results? This fixes that. Also has an option to force shorts to play in the normal video window.
Consent-O-Matic - automatically rejects cookies/gdpr consent forms. While automated, you might still get a second or two of flashing popups being yeeted.
XKit Rewritten - current most up to date "variation "fork" of XKit I think? Has settings in extension settings instead of an extra tumblr button. As long as you get over the new dash layout current tumblr is kinda fine tbh, so this isn't as important as in the past, but still nice. I mostly use it to hide some visual bloat and mark posts on the dash I've already seen.
YouTube NonStop - do you want to punch youtube every time it pauses a video to check if you're still there? This saves your fists.
uBlacklist - blacklists sites from your search results. Obviously has a lot of different uses, but I use it to hide ai generated stuff from image search results. Here's a site list for that.
Redirect AMP to HTML - redirects links from their amp version to the normal version. Amp link is a version of a site made faster and more accessible for phones by Bing/Google. Good in theory, but lets search engines prefer some pages to others (that don't have an amp version), and afaik takes traffic from the original page too. Here's some more reading about why it's an issue, I don't think I can make a good tl;dr on this.
Also since I used this in the tags, here's some reading about enshittification and why the current mainstream internet/services kinda suck.

My Experience With Digital-First Royalty-Only Publishing (Part 2)
Disclaimer: just my experience, may not reflect other people's
Part 1 (What is this sort of publishing; how did I get published; what does the submission, contract, and editing process look like)
Book Release:
My [redacted] book came out in April 2024. It is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the publisher's own website, where it is listed for a couple dollars less than on Amazon/B&N. It's available both digitally (in multiple different file formats) and for print (paperback).
I can't speak for whether this is standard across these sorts of publishers, but it probably isn't unusual. This does mean that the book can't be available on Kindle Unlimited, given how Kindle Unlimited's requirements work.
The timing for this sort of publishing is extremely fast compared to traditional or even small-press print publishing. I signed the contract in late August 2023 and sent in the final draft to my editor in late October 2023, and the book was released in late April 2024.
Book cover:
For designing my book cover, they pointed me towards where they pull stock images from and asked me to describe the sort of cover I would want, including possible stock images. They also asked for physical characteristics of my characters, which is when I realized that I had no clue what my characters look like.
The stock image website included AI art, as well as regular non-AI stock images. I specifically requested no AI art, including no AI-generated stock images. As far as I am aware, they respected that request.
Once they created one, they sent me a mock-up and asked about minor changes (typography, etc., from what I remember). I didn't have any changes. Overall, my cover looks like what I described to them, and I'm really happy with it.
Marketing:
My marketing experience with my publisher has been decidedly underwhelming. They seem to have started to revamp their marketing process right around when my book came out, so my book didn't receive/hasn't received a huge amount of marketing support from them.
What they gave me marketing-wise: a few marketing images for pre-release/post-release, including Twitter and FB header images, etc.; general marketing guidance for what I could/should be doing; a couple of mentions on their publisher Instagram post-release and a mention in their weekly newsletter
What they didn't give me marketing-wise: connection to reviewers, including sending an ARC or providing a list of reviewers that might be good to work with; marketing materials for sites like TikTok or Instragram; a meaningful amount of airtime/mention on their accounts; a large following of their own
Overall, the marketing is what is probably most like self-publishing--a huge amount of it is on me (and I am terrible at it). It will be interesting to see what their revamp brings, but they are starting from a minimal following and not a lot of previous activity on their accounts, and so they also need to build their reach to make their marketing on their accounts more effective.
Royalties/payment:
I get paid on a monthly basis through PayPal. I also receive a royalty statement that lists days, amount/type sold, etc. so I can reconcile with what they have paid me. From what I have seen this royalty statement is pretty standard.
So far, they've been prompt and haven't had issues with payments.
However, because of (among other things) their general lack of marketing, my royalty statements have been fairly low. So far (and, granted, the book came out less than 2 months ago) I have made very little money on this.
My Path Forward:
I've thought a lot about whether I will continue to do this sort of publishing. I am currently querying my "main" books, and I don't plan to publish them through this sort of publishing, even if the publisher would likely accept them.
My contract stipulates that my publisher has right of first refusal for the rest of the books in this series. I am currently writing book two, and I plan to also write a third, as I had initially discussed with them. Beyond that, I'm not sure. I don't mind working with them as a company, but I don't know if they have the processes in place for me to make money publishing with them.
One thing I will likely do is explore other romance publishers that accept unagented submissions. They have a much lower barrier of entry and they are often willing to accept books that trad publishers might not want to spend money/reputational risk on.
As such, I would likely submit to these publishers stories that I don't think traditional publishers/agents would likely to be willing to publish, including more niche subgenres and less standard lengths that are easier to publish digitally.
Why do I redact the name of my book?
Honestly because I'm a coward and because people are weird about romance, especially certain subgenres of romance. I also plan to use this account for my main agented publishing, if I ever reach that point, and I don't necessarily want those two pen names associated.
Any other questions about this sort of publishing?

[Image description. Image reads “Tropetember”, in the background, a picture of a mug placed on an open book in front of a blanket invokes a cozy feel. End id] Thanks to @supericelight for the image description!
Hello and welcome to Tropetember 2024!!
Tropetember is a multifandom event celebrating everyone’s favourite fanfic tropes, held during the month of September. There will be a trope prompt for each day of the month, but this is only a guide - feel free to choose any of the tropes as you wish.
This year, we again have a “Hard Mode” list for anyone that needs or wants more specific prompts to fill!
Here are the links to the prompts!
Tropetember Prompt List
Tropetember Hard Mode List
From the beginning of September, we will be accepting submissions to this blog for fanworks tagged with ‘tropetember’ and ‘R-tropetember’ (for works with adult content). To place a submission, you should click on the submission button under the blog title. This will mean that we post your work directly from the main Tropetember blog. Make sure to TAG APPROPRIATELY on the submissions box.
If you create your own post and want us to reblog it instead, you must @ us in the main body of the post (@tropetember) - we are not able to monitor the #tropetember tag.
All entries should either contain a link to a fanfiction site where your work is posted (eg. AO3), or the text/body of your work, as well as the trope/prompt used.
We have also opened an AO3 collection titled ‘Tropetember 2024’ into which you can post your work. When you go to post a new work in AO3, there will be a section that says ‘Post to Collections / Challenges’. In the field next to it, type 'Tropetember’ and it should pop up. Make sure to submit it to this year’s collection!
This event is intended to be a minor-accessible companion to Kinktober. NS/ FW content is welcome, but we want this to be a safe event for minors too, so we ask that any content rated M or E be tagged 'R-tropetember’ so that everyone can curate their experience. Content that might be considered sensitive and/or controversial should also be tagged as 'R-tropetember’ along with any other relevant warnings.
We’re releasing the prompts early below so that authors, artists and other fan creators can make a head start, but we will not be posting any submissions before September starts. (If we miss your submissions to the blog and a few days have passed, feel free to @ us or send an ask to let us know!) At the time of this post the Tropetember 2024 AO3 collection is already open and you can submit your work there.
This event is not a bingo and you don’t have to fill all the slots. You can do only one, some, or all of them, or repeat any trope several times, and still be a part of Tropetember - we’d love to have you!
For any doubts and questions, you can find our FAQ here, and several other answers here.
Please reblog or share to spread the word!! Enjoy your tropes and remember to have fun!

SJM Villain Week Rules/FAQ
Welcome to SJM Villain Week taking place on the 1st - 7th of October to kick off the scariest month of the year.
In order to inspire creativity within the fandom, we are running a prompt submission form to collect your ideas for what the prompts should be for the event! Each day will have two prompts, as well as a free day on the seventh.
The prompts list is now up! Here is the link to the list
Click the read more to see the rules and FAQ for this event week!
To help this event run smoothly, here are the rules to follow
This event is about the big bad guys of the SJM universe, but that does not mean that hate will be accepted. Remember to be kind and respectful to everyone joining in on this event. Any kind of hate mail sent will be deleted and the user will be blocked, no questions asked.
Projection of harmful stereotypes will not be allowed. Any kind of portrayal of the villains is welcome, as long as everything is kept respectful, and it is clear that certain kinds of behavior are not justified.
All relationships and interpretations of sexualities are welcome! So long as your villain of choice is at the forefront of your content. Shipbashing is not permitted. You are also of course welcome to create general and non-ship content.
No A.I content is permitted and therefore will not be reblogged.
NSFW and mature content is allowed, so long as everything is appropriately tagged. That means on Tumblr, their guidelines for NSFW images are followed, and on AO3, or other posting platforms, the work is sufficiently tagged and rated according to that sites rules.
As we are dealing with the villains of the story, it needs to be clear, graphic depictions of Rape/Non-Con will not be reblogged.
Whilst we all have different headcanons, and interpretations of characters, these are some characters that are not villains, and content centering around them will not be reblogged or otherwise featured during this event-
Tamlin
Eris Vanserra
Rhysand
The Inner Circle
Bone Carver, Weaver, Bryaxis
Cormac
FAQ
How do I participate in this event?
Any kinds of participation are welcome! Whether that be headcanons, fanart, fanfiction, moodboards, playlists, edits, or anything else you come up with! Remember, any A.I content will not be reblogged.
Is there an AO3 collection?
There is a collection on AO3 for the works posted, (here is the link) There are three ways you can add your works to the collection.
If you go to the collections page you can press "Post to Collection" and post your fic as normal.
When posting your fic, scroll to the option "Post to Collections/Challenges" you can manually type in the name of our collection (SJM Villain Week 2024) and add it.
If you fic is already posted, click edit and scroll to the option "Post to Collections/Challenges, and add it to our event as you would when posting.
Who is running this event?
This week-long event is being hosted by @hieragalbatorixdottir, @achaotichuman and @readychilledwine
What if I have a question about the event?
If you have any questions, please feel free to send an ask to the event account! We would love to hear all of your questions, headcanons, or any content you wish to share with us! If you want your ask to be answered privately please state that in the ask, otherwise all asks sent in will be published.
And please remember to not send any asks regarding the event account to our moderators. Please send them through the ask box of this account.
Do I have to stick to the prompts?
The prompts are there to help inspire creativity, that being said you do not have to stick to them. There will be two prompts for each day, you can use both, just one, or none at all! Whatever inspires you to create work! There will also be a free day where you can go utterly nuts and write whatever you want featuring our villains!
What can I do for SJM Villain Week if I am not a creator?
Any kind of interaction with the creators' making content is the best way to support them and encourage them leading up and during the event week! Consider liking, commenting and reblogging the content you see. This is the best way to let the creators know their content is appreciated.
Up to and during the event, we will be reblogging and sharing content made for our villains. If you have seen or have created works for our villains don't hesitate to share with us so we can reblog it!
Without further ado, welcome to SJM Villain Week, where lies, secrets and evil abounds. We’ll see you in October.

Welcome to OctoberNote 2024, an NSFW and Dead Dove friendly event!
Tumblr media
OctoberNote is a month-long, NSFW and Dead Dove-friendly Death Note themed Halloween creation event, open to all writers and artists aged 18+!
Prompts are weekly, which means it's a slightly less intensive endeavor than a daily prompt list. You can write for any combination of the weekly prompts, and the character(s) are just there for inspiration--feel free to write about L gunplay on October 9th, for example.
Rules:
To participate, you must be over the age of 18. No exceptions.
Harassment is strictly prohibited. This is a pro-freedom of fiction event. All ships are welcome.
You can submit written works as either Ao3 links or directly to Tumblr as long as it doesn't violate the ToS.
Works must be trigger tagged properly (either in the tags or in the header for the work) in order to be reblogged by the event blog. We'll go by the Ao3 warning system, so please at tag for graphic depictions of violence, major character death, rape/noncon, and underage. Please also tag for incest if applicable.
Tag your works with #octobernote2024 !
Because of the ToS, fully NSFW art can be posted to Tumblr as a link to a pixiv, poipiku, or twitter account, or other external image hosting site that allows NSFW.
Late submissions are allowed.
Have fun!

If My Circuits Could Sing: A Sci-Fi Zine About Obligation is accepting submissions!
Hi everyone!
I've heard back from the last of the print shops I reached out to. I'm still ironing out specifics but I figure we've been too quiet, so it should be time to get things rolling.
(Not sure who we are? Check out our writeup here. )
For writing, we are looking for:
Stories in the neighborhood of 2000 words. Submissions over 3000 words are unlikely to be considered.
Poems no more than 4 pages.
We are not interested in nonfiction at this time.
For art, we are looking for:
Short comics in the neighborhood of five pages.
Art pieces that either stand on their own, whole page or half-page with backgrounds, or that text can be wrapped around
Feel free to send over many small pieces in addition to or instead of larger ones!
For all submissions:
Please include a list of content warnings if your submission contains any subjects that may be intense, uncomfortable, or triggering. For example, bone breaking, body horror, blood, gore, etc.
How to submit:
For text, we'll be using Google Docs for its extensive cooperative editing features. The simplest thing for us would be for you to simply Share a Google doc with the zine email; [email protected] . If that's impossible, we'll accept submissions as plaintext (in the body of the email), or PDF. In both cases your work will be copied into a Google Doc which will be shared with your email.
For art, simply email your submissions as a standard image file(s), or a link to a photohosting site like Imgur. Again, that address is: [email protected]
We will give each submission one editing pass, more for clarity than anything else. Any of our suggestions can be declined if you feel that they harm the integrity of the work, or otherwise don't fit with your vision. Whether we accept all submissions or only some will depend entirely on the number of submissions.
I am extremely excited to see your work! Please let us know in the server or to our email if you have any questions!
Submissions will be open until: February 1 2024.
Join our Discord server here!

Tumblr media
FAQ and rules below the cut:
FAQ:
1. Can works created for Waxer*Boil Month include other characters or ships?
Of course! That said, the focus must be on Waxer and Boil's relationship, however you envision it. Any other characters featured should be in supporting roles only (see Rule #1 below for more information). The purpose of this event is not to encourage more works that simply include Waxer and Boil, but to encourage more works that focus on their story, specifically, above all others.
For example, if you were to post the work on AO3, the tags ‘Clone Trooper Boil/Clone Trooper Waxer’ and/or ‘Clone Trooper Boil & Clone Trooper Waxer’ would be the first and primary relationship tag(s) in the work.
2. What kinds of fan works are welcome for this event?
All kinds of fan works are welcome, including, but not limited to, fan fiction, digital and traditional art, gifs, podfics—anything you'd like to create!
3. What platforms/websites can I use?
Waxer*Boil Month will include an AO3 collection to which you can submit works, the waxerboilmonth Tumblr account, and a Discord server. If you are sharing a work on Tumblr, please tag @waxerboilmonth so that I can reblog it. If you don't have a Tumblr account or don't want to share a work directly to Tumblr, you can send an ask or DM waxerboilmonth with a link to the work on AO3 or other sites (such as Instagram, Twitter, etc.), and I will share it on the event Tumblr.
4. Do I have to make something for each week in order to participate?
No. Participants are welcome to create as many fan works as they like for the month. If you just want to create one work, that's great!
5. How many sets of prompts will the month have?
Four—one for each full week of March, 2024. The list of prompts for 2024 will be posted on Tumblr after Dec 22, 2023.
6. How many prompts will there be per week?
Each week will have 4 text prompts and 2 image prompts that participants can choose from to create any kind of fan work. In addition, there will be 3 NSFW prompts per week, though again, contributors may create any kind of work from any prompt. The list of prompts for 2024 will be posted on Tumblr after Dec 22, 2023.
7. What's the difference between the text prompts and image prompts?
Aside from how they are submitted, there's no difference between the two types of prompts. Text prompts could be anything from tropes to AUs to short song lyrics. Image prompts can be anything from an aesthetic image (cyberpunk, cottagecore, etc.) to something that is more suggestive of a plot or other theme (a person going running with their dog, a birthday party, etc.). Feel free to use any of these prompts as inspiration for any kind of fan work.
8. Are there rules regarding whitewashing?
This event does not condone whitewashing of any characters, but there are no specific rules that participants must follow. Descriptions or visual representations of the clones, for example, do not need to check any arbitrary boxes of 'correctness.' Nor must they exactly resemble the models in The Clone Wars or any people who have played the clones in live action roles—art is hard and demanding anything like photo-realism is exclusionary. However, please keep in mind the frequent whitewashing of characters in popular media and create your contributions to Waxer*Boil Month in good faith.
9. Are NSFW/E-rated works allowed?
Yes, fan works of all ratings are welcome (please see the rules below for exceptions). However, they must be properly tagged on AO3 and labeled with the appropriate Major Archive Warnings. On Tumblr, contributions must also be properly tagged and have appropriate community labels applied. You are free to post your works on other platforms as well, but please follow those platforms' community guidelines and tagging policies.
10. Do you accept late contributions?
Yes, the event will accept late contributions through April 21, 2024.
RULES:
1. This rule is being added in April, 2023, due to some confusion with contributions for the first Waxer*Boil Month in March, 2023. To elaborate on and reiterate item #1 in the FAQ, the focus of the work MUST be on Waxer and Boil’s relationship. This means that:
Waxer and Boil must both be included in the work in some way (for example: though flashbacks, talking via holocalls, etc.)
The main story or theme cannot revolve around other characters, relationships, or plot elements unrelated to Waxer and Boil’s relationship.
If the work consists of multiple chapters in which each one is a drabble or ficlet, all of the chapters must be focused on Waxer and Boil’s relationship.
Works that do not meet these criteria will not be accepted in future Waxer*Boil Month events.
If you are unsure about an idea, feel free to DM or send an ask to the waxerboilmonth Tumblr account. As an example, here is a work that may not, at first glance, seem to meet the criteria above, but the caption underneath the image ties the work together and makes it clear that Waxer and Boil's relationship is the focal point.
2. I’m the only mod and need to at least skim all works to make sure they fit the event criteria, so while I place no moral judgements on works of fiction, I ask that participants not contribute works that feature:
explicit sexual content, non-con, or graphic violence involving characters under the (species equivalent) age of 16—that's 8 for clones.
animal cruelty
3. Please do not add any DNIs (Do Not Interact) to any of your contributions to this event.
4. The AO3 collection is open but moderated, so you may join it and contribute works at any time. However, the works will not be approved until the appropriate week. For that reason, ✨please include the week number and whatever prompt(s) the work is filling in the tags, summary, or author’s notes.✨ 5. Have fun! Support each other!

okay (probably) final plan for the library of jesse project prep:
-finish making any needed accounts tomorrow (saturday)
-start taking notes on all the stuff i wanna screenshot at my earliest convenience (probably sunday)
for reference, the current day as of posting is friday, september 6th, 2024.
what have i already done?
-made the carrd with all the links on it, added it to the pinned post for my main blog and sideblog
-made the lojp sideblog (accessible from the carrd)
-made the flickr-based gallery
-made a progress tracker on google docs and a volunteer image submission form
-took minimal notes for s2 e1 screenshots yesterday afternoon before realizing there was more to do and burning out for the night (they're physical, but they'll be going on the progress tracker doc soon enough)
-wrote some image submission guidelines
-came up with a few ideas for the sideblog's banner (no idea what the pfp will end up being though)
i'm real excited to get into the meat of this project! while tedious, it'll be great for artists like myself, and likely writers as well.
oh, and stuff i wanna do that will likely be part of tomorrow's account-making shenanigans (helps to have a to-do list!):
-make a discord or something (not sure how i feel about discord, we'll see after i'v read their tos and done some research)
-make accounts on a few more image sharing sites to spread the gallery far as i can get it
-find or make something for lojp's banner and pfp across all sites i put it on

Effective SEO Strategy for Newly Launched Websites
Launching a new website is exciting, but it’s only the first step. To ensure your site gets noticed by the right audience, an effective SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy is crucial. If you’re running a business or offering services through a newly launched site, following an SEO roadmap can significantly boost your visibility and organic traffic.
Here’s a comprehensive and easy-to-follow SEO strategy for newly launched websites, especially for businesses like a digital marketing agency in Kerala.
1. Website Audit and Optimization
Before diving into SEO tactics, conduct a thorough audit of your website to ensure it is user-friendly and optimized for search engines.
Mobile Responsiveness: Make sure your website is optimized for mobile devices as Google prioritizes mobile-first indexing.
Fast Loading Speed: Improve loading times by compressing images, leveraging browser caching, and minimizing CSS and JavaScript files. Google values speed.
Sitemap and Robots.txt: Ensure your sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console, and set up a proper robots.txt file to guide search engines.
2. Keyword Research
Understanding what your target audience is searching for is critical. Conduct thorough keyword research to find terms relevant to your business. Tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or Ubersuggest can help.
Primary Keyword: Focus on relevant and location-based keywords like "digital marketing agency Kerala" if you’re offering services in the region.
Long-Tail Keywords: Use more specific, longer search queries to attract niche audiences. Example: “affordable digital marketing services in Kerala.”
3. On-Page SEO Optimization
On-page SEO involves optimizing individual pages on your site to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic.
Meta Titles & Descriptions: Craft compelling meta titles and descriptions with your target keywords.
Header Tags (H1, H2, H3): Organize content with header tags to improve readability and SEO. Use the primary keyword in the H1 tag.
Keyword Placement: Naturally incorporate keywords into your content, but avoid keyword stuffing.
Internal Linking: Link related pages within your website to improve navigation and help search engines understand your content structure.
4. Create High-Quality Content
Content is the backbone of SEO. Focus on creating informative, valuable, and relevant content for your audience.
Blogging: Write engaging blogs around trending topics and keywords. For example, a blog about "Top Digital Marketing Strategies for 2024" can attract potential clients.
Content Formats: Include different content formats like infographics, videos, and case studies to enhance user engagement.
Content Freshness: Regularly update your content to keep it fresh and aligned with current trends. This helps with SEO and shows users you’re active and knowledgeable in your field.
5. Local SEO
For businesses targeting specific geographical areas, local SEO is key. It ensures your website shows up in local search results.
Google My Business: Set up and optimize your Google My Business profile with the correct address, phone number, and business hours.
NAP Consistency: Ensure that your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP) are consistent across all platforms, including your website and social media.
Local Citations: Get your business listed in local directories like Justdial, Sulekha, and Yelp to improve local search rankings.
6. Build Quality Backlinks
Backlinks are one of the strongest ranking factors. Quality over quantity is the key here.
Guest Blogging: Write guest posts for reputable websites in your niche. For instance, contributing a blog on digital marketing trends to an authoritative industry blog can build valuable backlinks.
Directory Submissions: Submit your website to high-authority directories in your industry.
Social Media Profiles: Make sure your website links are included in your social media profiles, and regularly share content to attract backlinks.
7. Technical SEO
Technical SEO focuses on the non-content aspects of your website. It includes:
Structured Data Markup: Implement schema markup to help search engines understand your content better.
SSL Certificate: Secure your website with an SSL certificate (HTTPS). Google gives preference to secure websites.
Canonical Tags: Use canonical tags to prevent duplicate content issues.
404 Error Fixes: Regularly check for and fix 404 errors (broken links).
8. Monitor and Adjust
SEO is not a one-time process. After implementing your strategies, you need to monitor their performance and make adjustments.
Google Search Console: Track your website’s performance, identify issues, and optimize accordingly.
Google Analytics: Analyze user behavior to understand what content and strategies are working best.
SEO Tools: Use SEO tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Moz to track keyword rankings, backlinks, and overall SEO health.
9. Focus on User Experience (UX)
Search engines like Google reward websites that provide a seamless user experience.
Easy Navigation: Make sure your website is easy to navigate with a clear menu and internal links.
Engaging Design: A visually appealing website keeps visitors engaged longer, reducing bounce rates, which can help with SEO.
CTAs: Strategically place clear and compelling calls-to-action to guide users to take desired actions.

[Image description. Image reads “Tropetember”, in the background, a picture of a mug placed on an open book in front of a blanket invokes a cozy feel. End id] Thanks to @supericelight for the image description!
We’ve tried to answer as many common questions as possible below, but if there’s anything else you want to know, our ask box is open.
How do I post my work to the Tropetember AO3 Collection?
When you go to post a new work in AO3, there will be a section that says ‘Post to Collections / Challenges’. In the field next to it, type ‘Tropetember 2024’.
Do I have to post my work to AO3, or can I just post it to Tumblr, or a different site?
You can post your work wherever you like! As long as you make a submission through our Submissions form, or mention us @tropetember in your own post including either the link to wherever the fanwork is hosted, OR the text of the fic, we will post it.
You can also post only to the AO3 collection if you don’t want your work on Tumblr.
How do I tag/format my submission to the blog?
The most important thing is to check the box for #R-tropetember if your fic is NS/ FW (AO3 rating of M or E).
You can also choose from the other checkboxes to tag your work, but please make sure to use these responsibly and correctly! For example, don’t check all of the different types of media unless your work genuinely falls under these categories. Each submission needs to be individually checked and posted by the mods, so please don’t make our job harder - we’re already putting in many hours of work!
Incorrectly tagged works will have all nonessential tags removed and will therefore not show up in the search results.
Please make sure to include your fic’s TITLE, TROPE & SHIP (if applicable). For ship fics, the commonly accepted ship name (main ship only) should be included in brackets after the title, if you know it, and also the main trope/prompt(s) you used in the fic.  Any further courtesy or content warnings are appreciated, but not required.
What do I do if my submission isn’t posted?
Give us 24 hrs to post your submission - both of us work, so we aren’t always online. If it’s been longer than that, it’s either Tumblr screwiness or human error, so please do send us a message or ask so we can check we received it. We want to post all your submissions!
What kinds of fanworks are allowed?
Anything and everything! You can post fic, art, craft, fanvids, playlists, original music, audio, or whatever you like, as long as it fits a trope.
Can I skip some days?
Absolutely. You can do as many or as few days as you wish.
Why are there multiple prompts listed for each day? Do I have to combine them, or can I just pick a single one?
We listed various prompts for each day to give everyone as much choice as possible. You definitely aren’t expected to combine them (but you can if you want!).
Is Tropetember open to any fandom, character or ship?
Yes, it is! Feel free to create content for whichever fandom you want, including crossovers.
What if I miss the day for the prompt I want to do? Can I do the prompts out of order?
It doesn’t matter if you miss the specific day - please go ahead and write the prompt that caught your eye! Feel free to do any of the prompts on any day of September.
What if I’m late and don’t finish before the end of September?
We’ll be allowing late entries for one week after September 30th. If you miss that deadline, the AO3 collection will remain open until the one for next year is up and you can still post your works there.
Can the fills for the prompts be a new chapter of an existing fic, or part of an existing series?
Yes, that’s fine with us. Go ahead!
Can I combine the prompts with another event or bingo?
Absolutely!
Will you reblog NS/FW or controversial material?
Yes, in general we will. However, anything NS/FW or particularly controversial will be tagged with 'R-tropetember’ at the mods’ discretion. Please make sure to block this tag if you don’t want to see NS/FW content.
We will also attempt to tag works with any other relevant tags for blocking, including the ship name if possible. However, we won’t necessarily read all works ourselves, so we won’t be able to tag for all work content. Please heed the AO3 tags.
Remember the first rule of fandom: ship and let ship. :)
Why do you post and reply at strange times?
We don’t live in the USA, so our time zones are different. :) One of us is European and the other is Australian.
What’s with #27, “gay panic”? Isn’t that a discriminatory legal defence that allows for hate crimes against LGBTQIA+ people?
We (the mods) are both members of the LGBT+ community and we are very much aware of our gay history and the way this term has been used against people like ourselves. However, this phrase has a history of being thoroughly reclaimed by fanfic authors, with use dating back well prior to our own entry into fandom (and we’re old enough to remember the days of Livejournal, Wordpress and Fanfiction.net!) Feeling an initial sense of panic over one’s sexuality is something that is highly relatable to most people in the LGBTQIA+ community and that most of us have experienced, and the use of the phrase “Gay Panic” to describe a crisis of sexuality is part of our intertwined communities’ history.
~
