I hope you enjoy the above image. I entered some text into an AI image generator to "make" it.
and now, a story:
In 2019, I began working on a solar energy array to be installed on a property in Queens NY. The site was being developed as a low-income retirement community, and the developer was interested in adding a renewable energy system to the project.
The Brooklyn-based solar install company I was working for was selected to be the installer because the developer had an existing relationship with the solar company. But the developer didn’t want to run the solar scope, instead they made us be a subcontractor to the GC for all the work at the site.
This meant that the solar work had to be performed in compliance with the GC’s rules and requirements, as well as their obligations to all other parties in the Prime agreement.
Turns out there was a tinsy bit of federal HUD money funding the project (in addition to private equity and a couple big banks) which meant the project was subject to a whole raft of federal regulations, including Davis-Bacon prevailing wage requirements. (D-B PW)
Now, the solar company and I had experience with PW jobs, but not like this.
The GC’s labor compliance department had someone onsite every day tracking our guys clocking in and out, watching them take their breaks, and noting the various tasks they were performing.
Our payroll people had to submit certified payroll reports to the GC’s labor compliance people every week (we actually had to go from biweekly payroll to weekly for the whole company, because of this project).
Halfway through the install, we received a notice that some of the guys were doing work that fell under the ironworker classification in the D-B PW rates schedule.
What?!
The labor people thought they were doing the best job they could do in classifying the tasks they were seeing. Our guys spent 2 weeks bolting L-feet and aluminum extruded solar racking rail to the roof decking. Because the hardware was called “rail”, the labor people decided that our guys had to be paid like ironworkers.
This “opinion” and the resulting math meant that our crew of 5, working 8 hrs days, should have been paid $78 per hr, not $52. Suddenly, we had $10,000 in exposure to the GC related to labor underpayment. The GC was going to withhold this amount from payment to us for scope completed, unless we paid our guys the proper amount.
Well, we set about to correct the perception that ironworker was the correct classification.
This took a lot of research into the minutiae of the D-B PW regs, and more that a ridiculous amount of explanation about what solar rail is and how it is installed.
While we were able to make 'ironworker' go away, we weren’t in the clear. These classification issues and the related exposures would persist throughout the project.
Following Mechanical Completion, and on our way to Substantial, we got some bad news.
We had been paying our electricians $62 per hr for the work on the DC side of the inverters:
- Opening pallets, moving modules, bolting them to the racking, connecting the MC4s, terminating homerun wires, wire management, etc.
Labor compliance sent a notice that the proper rate for electricians was $116 per hr.
This was a $53,000 problem.
Turns out that in NYC, the union (Local 3 IBEW) had an agreement with the city to define solar install work on the DC side. They had amended the collective bargaining agreement with the NYC DOL in the last couple of years. The text defined the work and determined the proper rate was to be $62 per hr. That was the rate we were using.
But the federal DOL didn’t recognize this classification. In the D-B PW classification list, they only have one bucket for “Electrician”, and the rate is $116.
We were using the wrong PW rate schedule. The one we had always used in NYC wasn’t valid here. We had bid the project with a labor cost assuming NYC PW rates.
We went back to the contract documents, and sure enough, there was an exhibit that called out the Federal PW schedule.
This was a big problem.
We told the GC about the local PW rate, and why we were “underpaying” our guys. The GC realized the pain we were in, and offered to poke around to see if there was something that could be done. The GC told some contacts they had in the housing department in NYC.
The amazing housing people on Gold Street in NYC said they would support us in a petition to the Federal DOL to look at the situation and request a formal decision on the proper rate for this work.
We prepared the proper paperwork, and a letter outlining the situation. We even supplied, as an exhibit, the Local 3 amendment to the CBA that defines the solar install work and gives the rate.
Our letter basically said, “Hey DOL, there are over 250,000 people working in solar in the USA, and you don’t have a labor classification for the work they do. This labor rate for Electrician that you have covers all kinds of complicated work where knowledge of code is critical and the workers need training in using specialty tools. Solar is kinda more like putting sheets of plywood down on rafters and then running extension cords. It seems reasonable to take the position that you should recognize this other type of work as distinct and assign it a reasonable rate. Look, even the IBEW here in NYC acknowledges this. They already picked a rate. Can we pay our guys that number? “
The DOL wrote back, “Nope.”
We appealed.
They took another look at the situation and reported back. At this point, the project was almost done, and the GC was holding onto a lot of money that was requested in our G702 payment applications.
I have read that letter the DOL sent dozens of times (it is written in English), and I still do not understand their reasoning. But they did declare that they performed a work task analysis and evaluated the market conditions for similar comparable tasks in the trades. They even interviewed reps at the relevant unions to help constrain the range for the proper rate.
They arrived to a rate that complied with the federal rules related to how DOL runs this kind of analysis. They said we had to pay our people $84 per hr.
This wasn’t $57 per hr, and so we still had an underpayment issue. But it made the $53,000 problem into a $21,000 one.
Our contacts at NYC housing said this was a huge victory and we should be really proud of ourselves.
So now, whenever we bid a PW project in NYC, we ask to see the rate schedule, and we triple check to see if it is NYC PW rates, or Federal rates.
When it is Federal rates, we price our elec labor at $84 per hour ( we like living on the edge).
Then we get the notice of underpayment halfway through the project, with the citation that D-B PW says electricians should get $116 per hr.
Then we initiate a rate classification inquiry to the DOL, and we submit the letter we got from DOL in 2022 as an exhibit. “Hey, remember when you did a study on this exact matter and arrived to $84 per hr?” So far, it has worked out in our favor a couple times.
Our crew loves working on those jobs.
Sometimes, I wonder what the difference is between open shop rates, and local PW rates, and federal rates for other geographies.
I even once suggested to SEIA that they investigate this. Maybe in Southern California or Georgia or Illinois the difference between the federal D-B PW rate for electricians isn’t so high as in NYC. But maybe it is high enough that petitioning the DOL to make a bucket for solar installation would result in a few of millions of dollars in labor cost savings across dozens of projects. Reducing project costs by that kind of money would increase the amount of solar installed every year in this county.
I guess there just aren’t that many projects elsewhere in the states that are subject to federal D-B PW rates. Oh well.
Which brings me to “photovolfaic”
The original letter we got from DOL responding to our rate classification inquiry contained this typo in the critical section naming the Proposed Classification. The second letter from them referred to the first, so they used the same term. All subsequent letters and official correspondence from DOL have referred to the proposed classification as:
“Electrician-Solar Photovolfaic Systems”
( I guarantee that our original SF-1444 form sent to DOL contained the proper spelling in the field for “Proposed Classification Title”. )
I once called my contact at DOL to try to attempt to correct the misspelling, while being humble about “photovolfaic” being an unfamiliar term to me. She was firm that I needed to honor the classification defined by DOL and referenced in their letters.
Therefore, I have preserved the use of the term as they spelled it in every following letter.
It’s pretty silly. But my engagement with them requires me to be deferential. The power differential in this relationship has me perpetuating their error.
I fear that this matter will escalate to some senior labor official in the White House and we will end up catching a clip of Joe Biden on CNN talking about growth in “photovolfaics”.
Anyway, my co-workers and I joke that it is actually a real word, traceable back to Olde Englisċ, perhaps originating in a draft manuscript by Chaucer.
This idea became an image in my head that I couldn’t shake. So, I URL’ed over to an AI image generator and now I have this memento of the hundreds of hours I have spent dancing with the DOL about how much to pay the guys who lay the glass.
I hope you like it. Have a sunny day

So, You Just Turned 18/Just Moved Out: Free Financial Advice From a Banker Pt.3
My continuing series on helping those just starting out to get a good grasp on their finances, how banking works, and making informed choices.
So we've already talked a bit about overdraft fees and NSF fees, but there’s a lot more ways that banks can nickel and dime you if you're not aware of the fees and activity avoid them.
**Major changes are in the works currently within the government that may help eliminate these fees at American banks, so while at the time of writing these are all common pains in the butt, some may not be around for much longer.**
Lets talk about common bank fees:
Overdraft and NSF fees: Bane of every poor person’s existence. These fees are charged when your account is used for a transaction and the account does not have enough funds to cover it. Generally the charge is between $20-$35 EACH TRANSACTION.
Deposit Item Returned Unpaid: Just like it says on the tin, these fees happen when a check that was deposited into your account is returned unpaid. This is usually caused by a bounced check, but can also happen for a variety of other reasons including fraud, a missing signature, stop payments, ect. Typically banks charge $10-$15. These fees always feel particularly icky because YOU aren’t the one that did anything wrong!
ATM fees: These are the sneaky fees! Most major banks have their own ATMs, and those ATM’s are free to use by members of that bank. However if you use another bank’s or company’s ATM you may be charged a small fee by your bank for cheating on them with another financial institution. It’s usually between $2 and $5 and it’s easy to nickel and dime yourself if you’re snagging $20 3 days a week to pay for lunch on the way to classes or work. But here’s the other thing.... the ATM may also charge you to use it if you’re not part of its bank. And this may be between $2 and $10. That could be up to $15 to snag $60 to go out partying. Boo!!!
Wire fees: Whenever someone tells me I can ‘just wire them the money,’ the first question I ask is, “and will I be given reimbursement for the wire fee?” The answer is always no... So it’s important to know that your bank will likely charge you to send wires. Typically this is around $30-$40. And here's the real kick in the pants... Some banks charge you to receive wires as well! It’s usually about half what they charge to send them.
Statement Fees: In the digital age banks like to save on both postage and paper by producing your monthly statements digitally. If you want physical copies mailed to you it may cost you. Typically is’s around $2-$5 a month for banks that charge for it.
Copies of checks or old statements: Many banks charge a so-called Check Image fee if you request a copy of either one of your own checks that was cashed OR a copy of a check you deposited or cashed yourself. Typically these are $5 or so each. The same applies to requesting printed copies of old statements. It should be noted that banks are only obligated to store this data for 5 years. Anything beyond that is up to the bank itself. To save yourself money online banking usually allows you to view, save, and print these items yourself for free!
Foreign Transaction Fee and Foreign ATM fee: Near the border or planing a spring break/vacation trip outside the USA? Be aware that the majority of financial institutions will be charging you extra for swiping your debit card outside our borders. Typically this is set as a percentage of the purchase. For example, Wells Fargo charges 3%. So that $100 snorkeling adventure in Cancun is actually $103. The ATM is actually sometimes even worse because they may charge a flat fee + and international percentage fee at the same time + the ATM is 1000% likely to charge you as well. If you need to get cash outside the country it’s wise to get it in large chunks to avoid extra gouging. If your college plans include a semester abroad you may want to look for a bank that offers international friendly cards.
Excessive Withdrawal Fee / Reg D Fee: This fee has a couple names depending on the bank, but basically if you debit or transfer funds out of a savings account more than 6 times per month it’s against Federal Banking Regulation D. And the bank charges you a fee for that. Usually around $12-$15. And if you do it too many times they’ll convert your account into a checking account whether you like it or not. (It’s worth noting that moving money out of a savings account using an ATM or at the branch does NOT trigger one of your 6 uses, so there ARE ways around the fee)
Stop Payment Fee Quit your gym but still have 4 months on your contract? If you place a stop payment on your card or account thinking that’ll stop them getting your money it MIGHT (or might not, but that’s for another guide) work, but unless it’s part of an actual dispute or fraud claim situation, the bank’ll likely charge you for it. These fees can vary widely, from $10-$40 depending on your bank. But if your contract was actually up at the gym and you’ve tried to quit but they keep charging...get yourself a dispute or claim filed against them and the stop payment should then be free!

So, I love possessive, jealous Crosshair 🥵 Tell me about this scene (please?):
“Trouble doesn’t suit you, doll.” He murmured lowly, soft voice contrasting the slight pressure over her pulse point and the swell of her hip. Crosshair was all-consuming and Dutch was weak to do anything but try to stay silent under his pressing weight and commanding presence at her back.
Also, I’d love to know what Echo was thinking once Cross went to the fresher after Dutch.
You’re the best! 😘

*send one in here anytime!*
My oh my! 😍 What spicy scene we have here. I'll start with what's going on with Crosshair first, then I'll come back for Echo and the rest of the Batch. haha
***
Crosshair is fuming with rage during his conversation with Echo: It's that kind of bodily energy you get after watching a action-movie, where your whole body feels tired, but it's twitching with adrenaline that can't be spent or released. That kind of feeling you can't get rid of no matter what you do to ignore it, or work through it. Your mind feels like it working so fast that it's in slow-motion, overanalyzing the smallest details until your grinding your teeth because there's nothing else that helps relieve the pressure.
But the second he enters the refresher all of that energy snaps from anger and fear for Duchess, into dead calm. His inner voice stops screaming and evens out in tone and his hands stop shaking. His breathing slows and the second Cross sees her standing there, it's like he's been meditating deeply for hours. This kind of concentration is only present in Crosshair one other time... And you guessed it. When he's shooting.
Note: This is the epitome of Crosshair's ability to manage impulse-control in unfamiliar -and stressful- situations. Key-word here being "unfamiliar." I firmly believe that Cross is painfully terrible at monitoring and expressing his emotions. He has so many of them all the time that from a young age he had to learn how to turn them off in a moments notice, simply so he could survive. Think about it... How can a sniper worry about his brothers dying right before his eyes and still make clean shots? Not even Crosshair can do that. So the second he's certain Dutch is safe -by visually proving her health- that well-trained nature takes over to protect him like it always does.
Crosshair -at this point- isn't sure what he wants. He needs to touch her though, remind himself that she's tangible and within reach. Not that he isn't aware of his effect on her, but this moment isn't about sexual appeal or attraction. This is desperation, and Crosshair knows that; He's just banking on the hope that she'll let him, because she's always done so. He feels safe with Duchess, and even though this feels/looks sexy, Crosshair feels completely vulnerable right now.
Note: I will say it now; Once and for all. I have never subscribed to the idea that Crosshair is a typical Dominant/BDSM/Sadisim kind of guy. And the distinction is all to do with motivation. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why he acts the way he does, and how that manifests itself. So when I planned this scene, I wanted to focus on just how strong his desire to have security is. Not prowess, or control. It's all to do with the desperate need he has to prove how he feels about her. That kind of vulnerability just comes easier to him physically than it does emotionally. Duchess gives him a sense of stability -in and out of the sexual sense- that makes his characterization insanely complex and difficult to balance.
The moment he finds his words, it's a compulsory need to cover his own jealousy. Crosshair is undoubtedly unhappy knowing she went out with Regs... but what's really bothering him is how easy it is to feel so strongly for Duchess. Every time he speaks, it's intentionally driving attention towards someone else, and away from his own desire to be the focus of her attention. Cross uses his fear of her being unsafe to mask the jealousy that constantly compares himself to the others who can give her attention more freely than he can personally. Duchess sees his calm nature as patience and precision, but it's really Crosshair planning out what he's going to say because he knows one wrong move will reveal just how desperate he is to have her acceptance of him.
Note: I've never struggled to balance possessiveness and love like I have with Crosshair. He's so intense that if I'm not careful, he comes off like a walking red-flag. Word choice is essential when getting Cross' character and reactions right. Whether it be the way he talks to her, or the way he naturally falls into a protector role. That's why when I'm writing for him, it takes double the time it does to write anything else. Every movement, every word he says, needs to be written like he says it in the moment. That's the only way to show his softness... because the love that he gives is best felt in person. You can't describe Crosshair's love with words easily.
Now for sweet, sweet, Echo.
Let me preface this by saying: Echo is his brother's keeper. There is a relationship there that goes far deeper than the ones Crosshair holds for his other brothers. It happened slowly, but it wasn't until the two of them were too far into it that either recognized what had happened. Their personalities are something that wouldn't really mix on first glance, but for some reason or another, they just get each other. It's natural, and they gravitate towards each other.
That being said, Duchess and Echo are their own kind of dynamic. I see them as the "platonic-soulmate" kind. She has an intensity that Echo marvels at, and Dutch knows she could take any problem to him and he would do anything to help her. They both see something in the other that they wish they still had, or could develop. It's probably the purest friendship Duchess has ever had, and Echo can't help but harken back to Fives when he sees her attitude -in future chapters.
Note: From the first moment I created Duchess, I just knew in my heart she was meant to be something special to Echo. To me, it was only right that Crosshair's doll would feel strongly connected to Echo as well. Add in their common feeling of loss for brothers, and that just made their relationship that much stronger. She's such a force, and the ARC trooper can't help but find a enamorment with people who have such a strong will and fiery personality. (See Fives)
The moment Echo sees Crosshair, he's already preparing to do anything necessary to protect Duchess from incurring another possible hit to her bruised emotions. Echo trusts Crosshair, but he's highly attentive to Cross and how raw his emotions are. Their interaction is based in Echo's desire to save the couple from losing the chance to do things the right way. Intuition and experience guide Echo through the whole conversation; He really is flying by the seat of his blacks here... But he's so well-versed in reading Crosshair that none of the other Batcher's even think about offering to be the first one Crosshair faces when he comes in the bunk hall. Echo has unmatched faith in Cross, and this was something both of them knew would happen.
Note: Writing this scene was challenging for a number of reasons. For one, neither Echo or Crosshair really talk a whole lot. They say what they need to, and that's the end of it. So I spent days watching Echo and Crosshair's interactions. Trying to figure out what I could based off the -very little- examples I was given. In that, I found that the two of them hardly ever stand next to each other, but they're constantly sharing glances and looking at each other. Echo and Crosshair have silent conversations all. the. time.
Had Echo not allowed Crosshair to go and see Duchess, their sexy scene would have never happened. (And I played around with that idea very seriously...) Ultimately, Echo's intuition was the deciding factor. That conversation, and Crosshair's attempt at honesty was the reason Echo felt confident in letting him speak to her. And although Echo could sense Crosshair's patience running thin, he'd already told the rest of the Batch to be prepared for any fight. Echo wouldn't put it past Cross to stun him, but a gut-feeling kept him from mentally preparing to do the same thing.
Additionally, it was Echo who made everyone leave the bunk hall. The second Crosshair and himself reached an agreement, Echo was the first to step away. His next move was to shove the rest of the Batch out the doors and give Duchess and Crosshair the privacy needed to work through their shit. And although he expected it to end in sex, the desire to keep their business between them alone was Echo's main motivation to empty the bunk room. Neither Crosshair or Duchess really trust the Batch at this moment -in Echo's mind at least- and risking their privacy wasn't something the ARC would stand for. In the back of his mind though, Echo was terrified that Crosshair would fuck her and leave it at that. He's seen the sniper at his best and his worst, and although his best is wonderful, his worst can be miserable to endure. Echo was praying that Crosshair wouldn't be too harsh -physically and mentally- on Duchess.
When Hunter finally decided enough time had passed, Echo was on edge to see just where the two of them would be. The image of them sleeping in separate bunks: Crosshair pretending to sleep -like always- and Duchess laying quietly and pretending like nothing happened shook Echo to his core. But the second he saw her bunk in a disarray, and her not in it, Echo couldn't help but fucking grin. He was proud of his brother for doing the right thing. For doing something for himself, and not worrying about how it would make him look for once. Add in the way Crosshair reprimanded Tech, and how deathly serious he looked with her sleeping peacefully against him...?
That was the moment Echo knew for certain that Crosshair was never coming back from this. He saw a visible change in his brother, in the way his attitude changed. The way Crosshair wasn't worried about himself, or attempting to hide behind sneers and sarcastic comments. Echo noticed how attuned he was to her in that moment, putting her comfort above all else. For a man who pretended to not care about anything, Crosshair did a terrible job of hiding his true personality when Duchess was curled up into him. And Echo couldn't be happier, knowing that his trust in Crosshair hadn't been for nothing. Not only was his brother experiencing love in a way that all of them desired, but Duchess was never going to live with the question of whether or not someone truly cared for her.

I hope this was what you were looking for in-terms of answers 😅. I had a great time writing this for you, and I hope you'll feel comfortable doing this again whenever you feel like it! I love sharing the behind-the-scenes stuff with you! It makes the cuts and editing feel a little less sad knowing I might be able to share some of it with you anyways!

03 | gangsta, sweetpea
Notes:
Honestly, I do not know where I got the idea for this chapter beyond just.. Wanting to throw Sweetpea and Alyssa together in situations to see how it worked. I think it was cute? Probably not logical IRL, but this is fanfic. And some people just can’t deal with the smell of formaldehyde or dissections. Facts because I am one.. I think I might have gone a little overdramatic with some areas in how it played out, but I just decided to lean into it because it made things interesting.
Annnyway. another chapter absolutely noone asked for but I totally needed to write, apparently. Lmaooo.
Summary:
Opposites attract. But when they can’t fight that attraction any longer, will there be a comforting warmth, an inferno from the sparks, or a messy explosion?
Pairing:
Sweetpea x Andrews!OFC, Alyssa.
Warnings:
Angst. Slow burn. Eventual filth. Typical teenage drama. Embarassing situations. Boyfriends behaving like oblivious idiots. Pining. Language. Fighting / Violence. Going to go on a limb and say that this is kind of non canon compliant.
As far as this chapter goes.. The class did a dissection. But given the nature, I went as vague as possible in describing it. There’s mention of fainting and the fact that Alyssa wants to puke at one point, but beyond that, there’s really not much.
Other Parts:
[ one - two - soundtrack ]
Other Stuff:
[ faq - tag list doc ]
Tagging:
@brithedemonspawn
- if you wanna be tagged in this fic or in my riverdale writing tell me. I’ll happily add you to my tag list thing.
THREE.
I wasn’t expecting Toni to actually spare me a passing glance the next day, let alone look up from reapplying my makeup to find her standing behind me when I turned around after shutting my locker.
Reggie’s throat cleared and I felt him tense up almost immediately. I nudged him in the side, shaking my head “No” at him before he even got a chance to start.
But he went and did it anyway.
“What do you want?” Reggie spoke before I could.
I couldn’t resist the smirk that came when Toni flicked her eyes over him dismissively before deadpanning, “ I came to talk to Cherry. Not you. Pound sand.”
Reggie eyed me.
“I’ll catch up to you, Reg.”
He refused to budge and I felt my jaw clenching.
“I’m not leavin you by yourself. Not after what happened with the Ghoulie in the hall yesterday.” Reggie folded his arms over his chest. Speaking up with a calm smirk. “Whatever you gotta say to princess, you can say to me too.”
Toni studied him, unimpressed. “Where was this energy when a Serpent handled that Ghoulie you speak of, hm? Now you wanna play the protective boyfriend?”
I tensed a little, shooting her a pleading glance. She eyed me a second or two but luckily, she let the issue drop.
We started to walk towards the direction of our classrooms, talking about music and bands we’d seen live, basically continuing our conversation from the afternoon before when we’d been lounging on the bank down by the quarry.
“Hey, we’re gonna go hang out by the quarry this afternoon if you wanna come with again.” Toni slipped it in just as we got to the door of Biology. Reggie tensed even more, his gaze settling on me as if to ask what she meant by again.
I honestly didn’t give it a second thought, smiling and nodding, a lazy shrug. “Yeah. I mean the Vixens aren’t practicing and pretty much done all the stuff around my dad’s. Hey, remind me around lunch and I’ll go by my dad’s after school and grab that mix tape.”
“Definitely. I’ll see you later.” Toni smiled at me and gave Reggie a dismissive eye roll and as she walked away, Reggie spoke up. Calm and firm.
“Absolutely not. Are you out of your mind, babe? They’re in a gang. Is that where you were when you blew off school and practice yesterday afternoon? I thought you were at home. That prick Sweetpea wasn’t with you… Right?”
Reggie looked far less cocky when his eyes met mine. Almost as if he felt threatened by my choice to branch out. Stop losing myself in this person I was becoming. I’d talked to Archie the night before and Archie had basically told me that he’d been able to tell something was bothering me for weeks now, since even before Reggie and I became a thing. He thought I was homesick.
I’d explained to him how I’d been feeling out of place. Like an imposter because everyone in Riverdale either only knew the me I’d been presenting since I moved back, or remembered me as his younger sister only and that it bugged me because I wasn’t the same person they remembered or were expecting.
He basically told me that as long as being myself didn’t mean sneaking off to frat parties and older boyfriends or anything dangerous, if it made me happier, I should try just being myself more. He seemed to think that I might be surprised by how people reacted to it and sadly, from the looks of it, my own boyfriend was not going to be one of those who welcomed any sign of change.
,, because when you’re truly being yourself, you know he’d never be able to control you, let alone begin to be able to keep up with you. The balance of power is off now and he’s insecure.”
It worried me, more than I cared to admit.
I didn’t want anything to come between us. I didn’t want to fight with him all the time like we’d been doing lately. I just wanted to enjoy being his girlfriend.
“What if I was, huh? They’re normal. You talk like they’re all hardened criminals or something.”
“What’s this like.. A random act of charity?” Reggie eyed me, searching my face for any hint of an answer.
,, maybe the random act of charity is the time I’ve been spending pretending to be someone I’m clearly not.” the thought came but I stopped myself from giving voice to it. I sighed and shook my head, disappointed that Reggie was having such a hard time grasping the fact that I could be friends with whoever I wanted… Not excluding Toni Topaz.
Because we’d just kind of clicked. And I actually wanted to be friends with her.
“Reggie, if you really care about me, you’ll lay off this.” I said it as patiently as I could.
“It’s because I care about you, princess, that’s exactly what I’m not gonna do. They’re dangerous. Half of ‘em have a rap sheet as long as this hallway! What if they do somethin and you happen to be out with them, huh? How are you gonna explain that you were just there and not taking part?”
“Do you have to die on this hill?” I asked, giving him a pleading look.
The last thing I wanted right now was yet another argument with him. But the way he kept assuming he knew me like the back of his hand was starting to get exhausting. I wasn’t that same shy sweet little pushover I’d been when we were kids. I mean, I was still the same girl who hid with him in a tunnel on the playground and split a Hostess cupcake when his father came to collect him and happened to see him mess up a pass while just playing a casual game of toss the football with my brother and the other boys and started to yell and cut him down in front of everyone… I was still her, but I was also different... In so many ways.
“I’m willing to, yeah. Why’s this matter so much?” Reggie studied me intently.
I swallowed hard and took a deep breath or two to calm myself down. “It matters because I’m not the girl you think I am, okay? You’ve had this image of me built up in your head since I moved back and I’m sorry to say it, I’m not her anymore. I’m not the quiet little kid who used to hide behind my brother or tag along with you guys to play in the park like a lost puppy.”
“You’re not a Serpent, either, princess.” Reggie explained, a coaxing tone as he raised a hand, resting it against my cheek. “That’s one thing I like about you, okay? You were always the one to take in the strays. All I’m saying is there’s a time and a place for that and now is not the time. They don’t like us any more than we like them.”
“Don’t lump me in with the rest of you.” I glared up at him. “ As far as your earlier question as to whether this is a random act of charity, no. It’s actually not. I enjoyed talking to Toni yesterday.”
Reggie’s brows raised. “Why?”
I shrugged. “We have a lot in common.”
“Yeah, not likely.”
I took a deep breath. Trying to stay patient. Trying not to push this conversation even further into argument territory.
Because I knew that despite the way it felt, Reggie was only doing this because he cared. He didn’t really have any ill intent. He was merely being overprotective. Probably to make up for the rough time we’ve had being on the same page for nearly three weeks now.
Because I’d be lying to myself if I tried to pin all our fighting lately on the fact that Sweetpea was my Biology partner and Reggie was jealous because this started before that. I’d put it off to tension then, but maybe it was just me, starting to realize that no matter how hard I tried, things just weren’t working.
Before that thought could rear it’s ugly head again, I shoved it back down.
We walked into class and I sat down in my seat. Drumming my pencil against the desktop.
From beside me, Sweetpea spoke up. I didn’t have to be looking at him to know he was smirking when he made the remark, either. “Trouble in paradise, cherry?”
“Sweetpea, not today.” I muttered quietly, fixing my gaze intently on the open text book between us. The teacher rolled in the specimens we were supposed to dissect and my stomach rolled as the scent of formaldehyde filled the air.
I could feel my breakfast creeping back up my throat slowly. I took a deep breath.
That was probably the first way I fucked up.
As soon as we got our specimen, I grimaced. Gingerly picking up the scalpel. I could feel myself getting paler in the face by the second. Sweetpea grabbed the scalpel from me and eyed me with a brow raised. Pointing away from us. “If you’re gonna hurl, do it towards that side. Not into vomit on my leather.”
“I’m fine.”
Except, oh no. No I was not fine.
And the scent of formaldehyde was so thick in the air that I honestly felt a little dizzy…
XXX
She almost looked green.
Sweetpea shot a glance back towards the back of the classroom where Mandy and Reggie were absorbed in their conversation… More to the point, Reggie was so caught up in Mandy pouring on the dramatics that he hadn’t spared a single glance towards his actual girlfriend. The thought had Sweetpea’s jaw clenching tight. Alyssa’s hands shook as she picked up the scalpel.
“Give me that.” Sweetpea reached out, taking the scalpel. Because shaking hands and a sharp object in their grasp was never a good idea. He’d been around enough to know that if the person with the knife had a shaky hand, more often than not, things tended to get messy.
,, right and this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that even the thought of her injured kind of makes you physically ill lately. You did move that entire fight between the team and your boys to a vacant lot because you weren’t willing to risk her rushing out to try and stop it and getting hurt by somebody...” his mind taunted him, but he shoved the thought right out of his head. And then more thoughts came.
Like a replay of the argument he’d caught the tail end of between Alyssa and Reggie as he shoved past them to take his own seat. The way she actually didn’t fold under the pressure of Reggie’s argument, but stood her ground instead. Admitting that she enjoyed talking to Toni and she wasn’t going to stop just because it made Reggie Mantle uncomfortable.
Maybe he’d written her off a little too quickly.
He made the first cut in the specimen sitting between them and he glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. Luckily he happened to, because he saw her swaying a little right as the color drained from her face completely and she started to slump just a little. He grabbed her up quickly and shoved through the aisle, pushing open the door of the classroom to step out into the hallway, completely ignoring the threat of yet another detention from their Biology teacher.
“Did you not see her about to pass out?” Sweetpea snapped as he peered back in the door of the classroom. Their teacher stepped out into the hallway, giving him a firm warning look as he pointed to the classroom and Sweetpea clenched his fist, grumbling. Lingering for a few seconds before the teacher spoke up in a crisp tone, “Inside now. Unless you enjoy a month of Saturday detention.” before turning attention back to Alyssa, trying to make sure she was alright.
Alyssa met his gaze over the teacher’s shoulder, flashing him a weak smile, giving him a pleading look as the teacher warned him a third time to go back into class. “Sweetpea just go, I’m fine. I’ll be back inside soon.”
Sweetpea eyed her a second or two and finally stepped into the classroom, shutting the door behind him. Turning to find himself body to body with an angry Reggie Mantle. Glaring at him.
“I know you didn’t touch my girl, Serpent.”
“Would you rather me touch her or have her crack her head on the floor, dog?” Sweetpea stood taller, cracking his knuckles. Nodding to Reggie’s lab partner, who was grumbling and pouting, rolling her eyes because all the attention had been taken off her. Sweetpea stepped closer, smirking at Reggie, “Mad because you weren’t paying attention and another guy picked up your slack, asshole?”
Reggie went to shove him but the teacher’s throat cleared from behind the two, putting an end to the confrontation.
“This isn’t over, Serpent.”
“ I can do this all year, Bulldog. Just gives me the joy of kicking your ass over and over.”
“Enough you two!” the teacher yelled, silencing both males. “You two can settle whatever this is off of school grounds. In your own time. Understood?”
Sweetpea smirked, rolling his shoulders. “Gladly.” he muttered as he stormed over to his seat.
Alyssa made her way back in and over to the seat beside him, not looking at anyone in the room instead, burying herself in the text. Letting Sweetpea make the cuts as she pointed out the parts of their specimen’s anatomy they had to label and show.
XXX
“Are you okay, princess?”
“I’m fine, Reggie. For the thousandth time. I guess the smell of formaldehyde got to me. It happened at my old school once in eighth grade. I’m just embarrassed.” I answered. The scent was still stuck in my nose. It drifted through the entire hallway.
I knew I should’ve gotten my dad to write me a note so I could go and sit with the other students who’d chosen to opt out. It slipped my mind.
From across the table, Mandy spoke up. “ What was worse? That freak putting his hands on you or almost fainting in front of everybody?” with a smirk as she gazed at me.
Reggie tensed and I gave Mandy a dirty look. “Almost fainting in front of everybody. Hands down. Can we not call him a freak? He’s not in a side show. And he’s not any different than the rest of us.”
“He’s from South Side. Of course he’s different.” Mandy looked at me as if I’d grown two additional heads. I rolled my eyes and went quiet.
Irritated by her remarks.
Irritated by her in general.
Reggie cleared his throat, taking a bite of his burger. Nodding to mine. Coaxing me to eat. I shook my head, glancing at the burger in disgust. “I’m good.”
“You need food, princess.”
“If the drama queen doesn’t want to eat, Reggie, don’t make her. She could stand to lose a few pounds anyway.”
I tensed. Under the table, my fists clenched. Since I moved back to Riverdale, Mandy’s had it in for me. And she doesn’t bother hiding it.
And I was sick of playing nice. Looking stupid when I know what she’s about.
It wouldn’t have flown in my old school, why was I letting it fly here?
Was it really worth it to just come off like a doormat? I was really questioning my logic on that front a lot lately, it seemed.
I smirked at her and bit my lip. The smirk was replaced with a smile as I spoke up. “In that case, maybe you should skip the ice cream. Since we’re talking about losing a few pounds here. Just trying to help.”
Mandy’s jaw dropped and I shrugged, going back to my cell phone to scroll my Snapchat. Checking the stories of my old friends from my school in Chicago. Responding to a few snaps they’d sent me.
“ Mandy you’re so fuckin rude.” Reggie spoke up, surprising me. I kept my gaze fixed on my phone and Mandy shrugged as if his criticism rolled right off her. “I was just trying to be helpful.”
“You were being a bitch.” Reggie grumbled, fixing his eyes on me. He leaned in and asked quietly, “You wanna get outta here?”
I eyed him, biting my lip. Something told me if I hadn’t had my little incident in the lab, Reggie wouldn’t be trying so hard right now.
,, maybe that’s not true, you don’t know that..” my mind argued.
“It’s okay. I don’t like her enough to give a shit if I’m being honest.” I muttered, making Reggie chuckle quietly and smirk at me. “That’s my girl. It’ll be okay. People are totally gonna forget by last period, you’ll see.”
“It is what it is.” I shrugged, eager for the conversation to switch topics.
XXX
Toni caught up to Alyssa in the hallway, tapping her shoulder. Alyssa turned around, smiling. For a second or two, Toni thought she’d beg off. Change her plans under pressure. She rolled her eyes at Reggie when their gazes met. “Ready to go?”
“Yeah! Just give me a second.”
Reggie’s facial expression told the tale. He was not even remotely happy with being stood up.
“Babe, you were gonna watch me practice.. Remember?” Reggie butted in, pouting at her. reaching out to pull her close to him. Alyssa hugged him and gazed up at him, biting her lip, a patient look on her face.
Toni watched their interactions with amusement. The panic was plain to see on Reggie’s face. She found herself scowling at him. The guy was a fuckboy. For the life of her, she hoped for Alyssa’s sake the whole interest in him was just a phase because guys like that only hurt people...
“Reggie, I can watch you tomorrow. It’s just one afternoon.” Alyssa held firm, surprising Toni. Maybe she hadn’t been wrong to trust her gut like Sweetpea and Fangs insisted she was going to be proven to be.
After a whispered exchange of heated words, Alyssa jogged over, grumbling and rolling her eyes at the whole thing. Smiling at her. “Hey, if you want, we can stop by my dad’s together. Oh and the construction site. I usually take him a snack when I get in.”
“Aww, that’s cute.” Toni gave her a gentle but teasing smile, nodding. “Let’s go.”
They took off, falling back into conversation. Losing track of everything else.
After stopping by Alyssa’s to pick up the food for her dad and the mix tape she’d promised to lend Toni, they found themselves wandering around. Flopping on the grass at the park, watching the clouds roll overhead.
“ What made you join the Vixens anyway?”
“Cheryl strongarmed me into it. They needed a gymnast. I used to hate the cheerleaders at my old school.”
“ You’re the only halfway cool Vixen I’ve met so far.” Toni admitted, shrugging.
Alyssa stood, holding out her hand. Pulling Toni off the grass. “Let’s do something.”
“What?”
“I don’t know. What is there to actually do in Riverdale if we’re being honest?” Alyssa joked, making them share a laugh.
“Oh.. Oh.. no, you’d probably hate that idea.”
“No, what?”
“There’s a Mortal Kombat machine in the Wyrm…”
“Pretty sure Fangs and Sweetpea would be thrilled about me showing up there.” Alyssa mulled it over before smirking a little. “Okay, let’s go. It beats absolutely not shit to do here.”
“Don’t let them get to you. They’ll be assholes until they warm up to you.”
“Sweetpea confuses me? Like.. I know he’s being a jerk over half the time, then he does something like he did in Biology this morning and I don’t know what to think.. Anyway, I need to just not worry about it either way.” Alyssa tried to dismiss it, but Toni smirked to herself.
Determined not to just let her dismiss it.
Because any idiot could see what was going on.
Or she could, at least.
“No, what do you mean?”
“You know what I mean… Sometimes I feel like.. I don’t know… Like he’s trying too hard to be an asshole?”
“Oh no, he’s an asshole. Mega grouch. But you’re right. He does have his moments.” Toni kept things vague enough that she wasn’t putting her best friend Pea in any compromising positions, but she hoped that she said enough to get Alyssa really thinking.
It wasn’t like they were close enough friends just yet that Toni could go and tell her that she just needed to open her eyes. Pick a better boyfriend, because Reggie Mantle only liked the idea of her. Or the her that he’d known years ago from what she’d been hearing around school.
,, not to mention there’s the whole conversation you happened to overhear about there being a bet between Reggie and some Chuck asshole about getting in her pants..” the thought came but Toni shoved it down. Because how did you go about telling someone something like that?
Especially when you really didn’t know them well at all.
She didn’t want to lose a friend she was only just getting to know yet. She just needed to come up with a way to break it to Alyssa so that Alyssa understood. And wasn’t hurt or embarrassed or angry. So that Alyssa believed her.
Because she was disgusted with the fact that the guy had done that in the first place. The fact that she’d had the misfortune of overhearing only made things worse...

Everything You Need to Know About Cryptocurrency Regulation (Right Now)
Bitcoin and Co have been the Hyp topic in 2017. A lot of voices raised and claimed for regulation and more involvement from officials to make investments safe. But was this not the exact reason why people created a Cryptocurrency outside the system without hidden fees and regulations of price fluctuations? Well seems like some people want Cryptocurrency Regulation, and what people want they get.
Experienced corporate & securities attorney eager to help you and your business reach its goals. Gary's services range from fund formation and capital raising (e.g. Reg D offerings, crowdfunding) to contract negotiation and compliance with securities and other regulations. I have extensive experience with cryptocurrency and non-U.S. companies. Prior to co-founding his firm, Gary worked in the law firms of Sidley Austin, Alston & Bird, and Holland & Knight. From 2009 to 2012, Gary served in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he oversaw financial agents engaged by Treasury to provide asset management and other services relating to the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). The meteoric rise of cryptocurrencies has taken the world by storm. Innovators, investors, users, and governments are scrambling to wrap their heads around cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology that they rely upon. The emergence of a new market and business model has created great opportunities for participants, but it also carries significant risk. Cryptocurrencies present an inherently unique challenge to governments because of their new technology, cross-jurisdictional nature, and frequent lack of transparency. Governments are struggling to develop new ways to regulate cryptocurrencies, adapt existing regulations, and identify fraudulent schemes. Cryptocurrencies and their regulations are evolving before our eyes, and this article will provide a brief background on cryptocurrencies and an overview of where cryptocurrency regulations currently stand. Image Credit Cryptocurrency Regulation: PixabayWhat are cryptocurrencies? Cryptocurrency is, by any other name, a currency—a medium of exchange used to purchase goods and services. Or, as some have suggested, cryptocurrency is a “peer-to-peer version of electronic cash.” However, this currency has two qualities that distinguish it from traditional bills and coins. First, cryptocurrency is a virtual currency that is created through cryptography (i.e. coding) and developed by mathematical formulas through a process called hashing. Second, unlike traditional bills and coins that are printed and minted by governments around the world, cryptocurrency is not tied to any one government and thus is not secured by any government entity. The fact that cryptocurrencies are not secured by a government authority has led to concerns from critics that this is the second coming of Tulipmania because we are ascribing value to an otherwise valueless item. However, the potential for cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange remains enormous. What is blockchain? Blockchain is the technology at the heart of most cryptocurrencies, and explaining the technology in detail would require a blog post of its own. What is important to know is that blockchain is a record of peer-to-peer transactions categorized into blocks on a distributed ledger. Despite the obtuse terminology, blockchain functions similarly to a local bank authorizing and recording a transaction, but instead of only one party holding the entire ledger book, the transactions are recorded communally by member nodes, with each node being a computer in a peer-to-peer distributed network. The blockchain can confirm a transaction within minutes, removing errors that exist when trying to reconcile and audit separate ledgers and transactions. Whenever a transaction takes place, the miners on the blockchain develop a new hash and digital signature to update the ledger and create a new block.” This block, or recorded transaction, is time-stamped and encrypted and will remain on the blockchain for life. Regulation in the US – Utility Tokens v. Investment Tokens In the United States, there has been no federal regulation of cryptocurrencies. Instead, cryptocurrencies are often grouped into two non-binding categories: (1) investment tokens that fall under the purview of already existing U.S. securities laws like the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, and (2) utility tokens, which remain largely unregulated (for now).Image Credit Cryptocurrency Regulation: Pixabay Security Tokens Whether the tokens being offered in connection with a particular cryptocurrency are security tokens is decided on a case-by-case basis that even experienced securities lawyers can disagree upon. Tokens are usually analyzed under the four-part Howey Test below to see if the token is in fact a security. Securities must meet the following criteria: An investment of money in a common enterprise with an expectation of profits predominantly from the efforts of others Each characteristic of the token is analyzed against this framework to see if the cryptocurrency is in reality functioning as a new-age security. If it is, then regulators treat it as such, and cryptocurrencies must then be registered and handled with all of the same disclosures and precautions as any other security sold in the United States or to U.S. investors. Utility Tokens Cryptocurrencies can also be categorized as non-security utility tokens. These tokens purport to offer intrinsic utility and value, and are typically instrumental in powering the blockchain technology. These tokens function more like commodities than securities, and while they may act like currency in a fully functional network, they also have other values. However, having a utility token with a properly formed and functioning network does not preclude said token from being labeled a security by the SEC. In In the Matter of Munchee, Inc., a purported utility token with a non-functioning network was labeled a security by the SEC. While labeling a token without a functioning network as a security – as it has no present utility – is not unexpected, the SEC also concluded that: “even if tokens had a practical use at the time of the offering, it would not preclude the token from being a security.” After analyzing the Munchee Tokens under the Howey test, the SEC concluded that they were investment contracts because purchasers of the tokens had an expectation of profits predominantly from the efforts of Munchee and its staff. The SEC further concluded that Munchee had primed such expectations through its marketing efforts. While this new case does not eliminate the distinction between utility and security tokens, it does caution that, when deciding whether a given token is a security, the SEC will look beyond utility at the character of the instrument, and base their conclusion based on the terms of the offer, the plan of distribution, and the economic inducements held out by the token issuer. State Regulation So far only the state of New York has issued any kind of regulation specifically regarding cryptocurrencies: the BitLicense. The BitLicense is New York’s attempt to control cryptocurrencies within its borders by requiring cryptocurrency businesses to register and comply with several different disclosure and financial obligations. The regulation has been divisive, and many businesses have rallied against its high costs. While a few companies have applied for and received the license, most other companies have simply left the state or stopped offering services to its residents. Regulation Abroad – The Ever-Shifting Jurisdictional Question The United States is not the only country grappling with how best to regulate cryptocurrencies. Many cryptocurrency businesses face daunting questions regarding in which jurisdictions to form and to do business in. In the end, the question is quite difficult and fact-specific, requiring communication between legal counsel in different jurisdictions and taking into account nebulous and piecemeal country-by-country regulations. It is impossible to do a detailed analysis without knowing how a country’s existing securities laws, financial regulations, and banking regulations will operate (or will be adapted to operate) with cryptocurrencies. The fact that cryptocurrency-specific regulations are still developing does little to add clarity, and makes the analysis even more challenging. Yet a few global trends are noticeable: Suspending Cryptocurrencies Some notable countries, like China, and South Korea, have suspended cryptocurrencies. These countries have cited the risk of fraud and the lack of adequate oversight in suspending cryptocurrencies and their exchanges, forcing cryptocurrency companies and exchanges to relocate. Regulating Cryptocurrencies Other countries, like Japan and Australia, have adopted disclosure and regulatory measures, or have companies register with the applicable government authority. Several countries have also tried to implement disclosure or registration regulatory regimes when it comes to cryptocurrencies, but such regimes are cumbersome and expensive to fledgling companies. Cryptocurrencies as Commodities On the other hand, Switzerland and Singapore, two of the countries at the forefront of the cryptocurrency market, have simply stated that cryptocurrencies are assets, not currency and that they will treat them as such under existing regulations. Conclusion Ultimately, cryptocurrency regulation remains in its infancy. Piecemeal regulation has already begun around the world as governments enact new regulations to control and legitimize cryptocurrencies, fold cryptocurrencies into existing regulations, or ban them outright. These splintered attempts at controlling a global phenomenon will keep the cryptocurrency market volatile, and pose a challenge to innovators, investors, and users. They will continue to work in the cryptocurrency space while pushing for legislation and regulation that will remove ambiguity and legitimize cryptocurrencies. At the same time, they must grapple with the possibility that new regulations may be confusing, detrimental, or have negative inadvertent effects. DVLA scam: Which? urges drivers to 'avoid clicking' on new fraud message
Consumer watchdog Which? has issued a “scam alert” message for the new text which demands immediate action. The message tells drivers the DVLA have been trying to contact them even though this was not true.
The agency confirmed they will not ask for personal details or demand drivers log in to an account.
They encouraged drivers to “report websites” which they believe could be a scam for further investigation.
They said: “DVLA will never ask you to reply or give personal/bank details or ask you to log into an account.
“To report websites you think may be suspicious visit GOV.UK.”
Road users took to social media to attack the latest scam message, adding the fake messages were “out of control”.
One motorist claimed she had received this message twice last year and has previously reported the message.
She said: “I reported the scam but actually I have to say it was a very convincing email and I’d imagine quite intimidating for some who are not as aware.
“Remember you can check your MOT & insurance expiry on the DVLA website by just inputting your car reg.”
Another social media user even revealed their new system for dealing with online scams.
They said: “In view of the number of scams being perpetrated on the internet, I now have a policy that any requests for money that arrive by electronic means is automatically deleted.”
Last year the DVLA warned the only place to access official information from the DVLA was from GOV.UK.
They urged drivers to never share bank details or personal data online and to avoid websites that offer to connect to DVLA’s contact center.
They have also warned drivers to never share images of their driving licence and vehicle documents online.

FinCEN Files: US Banks Red-Flagged 44 Indian Banks for Suspicious Transactions Between 2011 and 2017
The FinCEN files investigation identified more than two trillion dollars worth of transactions between 1999 and 2017. The transactions had been flagged in more than 2,100 reports by nearly 90 financial institutions.

Hyderabad: Forty-four Indian banks have been flagged in connection with transactions by Indian entities and individuals in a set of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) filed by US banks. The reports were filed with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a watchdog of the US Treasury Department The Indian Express reported.
Called the ‘’FinCEN files’, the material has led a new investigation into confidential U.S. Treasury documents shared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) with BuzzFeed News and 108 other media outfits. The documents identified more than $2 trillion worth of transactions between 1999 to 2017 which were flagged in the more than 2,100 reports by nearly 90 financial institutions, as possible money laundering or other criminal activity.
SARs reflect the concerns of internal compliance officers within banks, as submitted to FinCEN.
The Indian Express report says that “as per one set of records where addresses linked to parties are in India, Indian banks figure in SARs linked to over 2,000 transactions valued at over $1billion (Rs 7,369 crore) between 2011 and 2017. Significantly, there are thousands of transactions linked to Indian entities and businessmen where the Indian senders or beneficiaries have addresses in foreign jurisdictions.”
Indian banks with suspicious transactions as alleged in the SARs include Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank, among others.
US banks that have filed SARs about Indian banks include Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas (DBTCA), BNY Mellon, Citibank, Standard Chartered and JP Morgan Chase, among others.
The reported reasons cited by the foreign banks for reg-flagging their Indian counterparts were transactions described as “high-risk jurisdiction for money laundering or other financial crimes, adverse media or public information on the client, unidentified parties, and the fact that source of funds and purpose of transaction could not be ascertained.”
Transactions linked to Bhushan Steel Ltd, amounting to the tune of $4.39 million (Rs 32 crore) figure in SARs sent between 2012 and 2015 to FinCEN. The company was acquired by Tata Steel through an insolvency court in 2018.
According to the investigative reports, transactions of public sector entities like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and The State Trading Corporation of India Limited and private majors Bharti Airtel and Essar, which have been under scrutiny by Indian investigative agencies, have been red-flagged in several SARs to FinCEN.
India’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) on black money is reportedly taking note of the suspicious transactions revealed in FinCEN files and is looking to hold a panel discussion to decide on the course of investigation in India. The SIT was formed in 2014 based on the directions of the Supreme Court.
In a statement before the publication of a series of articles based on SARs, FinCEN stated that “the unauthorized disclosure of SARs is a crime that can impact the national security of the United States, compromise law enforcement investigations, and threaten the safety and security of the institutions and individuals who file such reports.”
However, ICIJ and other media outlets have published their revelations based on the documents.
“They (FinCEN files) show banks blindly moving cash through their accounts for people they can’t identify, failing to report transactions with all the hallmarks of money laundering until years after the fact, even doing business with clients enmeshed in financial frauds and public corruption scandals,” the ICIJstated.
In another report, the newspaper revealed that the FinCEN files “uncovered a web of transactions of a flourishing money laundering network run by Pakistani national Altaf Khanani who is also said to have been a key financier for fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim,” based on SARs filed by the Standard Chartered Bank in New York.
According to the investigative reports, five banks – Deutsche Bank, Bank of New York Mellon, Standard Chartered, JPMorgan and HSBC – repeatedly violated their official promises of good behavior. These banks, ICIJ reported, “kept profiting from powerful and dangerous players even after U.S. authorities fined these financial institutions for earlier failures to stem flows of dirty money.”
Placing the network in context, ICIJ said that the FinCEN files “represent less than 0.02% of the more than 12 million suspicious activity reports that financial institutions filed with FinCEN between 2011 and 2017.”

The COVID illusion and the currency reset
The reset: not all at once; step by step
When this highly destructive farce is over, there are several ways things could go. In this article, I describe one path.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank (WB) are joined at the hip. In 2018, they double-knotted their ties by forming a partnership to monitor outbreaks and epidemics before they spread.
Basically, behind the scenes, the deal looks like this: WHO creates the illusion of global epidemics; WB steps in later, to pick up the pieces of the result—injured national economies— by shelling out loans to governments.
These loans always carry conditions. The prime condition is: let in private, roaming, foreign, predatory, private investors so they can take over vital sectors of a nation: energy, agriculture, water, etc.
But this time, WHO, as planned, has gone ballistic. The lockdowns are shredding economies. It’s not going to be “here’s a loan.”
It’s more on the order of: we have to bail out everybody.
How is that done?
Step by step, through switching over one kind of illusory money for another kind of illusory money.
“We invented one kind of money out of thin air, and it reached the end of the line. Now we have to invent another kind of all new money out of thin air.”
Universal guaranteed income (UGI). Eventually, for everyone.
It, too, comes with conditions, gradually implemented. Basically, the deal is: “we pay you, and you obey us.”
The behavioral side of the model is the Chinese regime, which works obedience through a “social credit score.”
Infractions lower the score. In which case, the violator can’t travel on a plane or send his kids to certain schools or stay in certain hotels or start a business. There are levels of punishments.
Infractions include walking a dog off a leash, spreading fake news, crossing against a red light, failure to separate garbage properly, business fraud—little and big offenses.
Under a global UGI, it would be: “Here’s your monthly digital check, now follow orders, or your money might be reduced. Be a good citizen.”
Of course, a system like this requires complete and utter surveillance, public and private, every which way.
The holy grail is energy quotas for every person. “Mr. Smith, this is your wall talking through the glorious Internet of Things. Your energy number for the month is reaching its limit. I want to help you avoid that limit and the social credit score penalties that would be enforced. I’m going to initiate brown-outs and dimming in your home for the next two weeks. Your Internet will be shut down—excepting the hours of midnight to three in the morning. Cook all your meals for the day between four and five am…”
Behavior control. What’s going on now is a tune-up for the future. Now they say: stay indoors, don’t let in visitors. Stand in line outside stores, keeping a distance of six feet. Report people who appear sick. Get tested. Wash your hands a dozen times a day. In the future, the list of rules and regs will be different, but the overall theme will be the same: be a good citizen and contribute to a better world. Be sincere and earnest and helpful. Don’t rebel.
And just like now, many, many people will respond: “Yes, thank you. I like the straight and narrow. I like the feeling of contributing to something larger than myself. I like the collective. I like the fact that we’re all in this together.”
A sub-population of these people will want to do more. They’ll want to join the government. They’ll want to help the government enforce the rules. They’ll want to “express their energy.” They would, if asked, gladly march in columns down streets, salute, hand out summons, make arrests, and even commit violent acts under orders.
They would wear crisp uniforms, and take oaths. They would want ranks and seals. They would like to be called ELITE.
Because history means nothing to such people, they’ll never know names like SS, Red Guards, or Stasi. But that’s what they’ll be.
Unless the whole plan for a technocratic Brave New World is exposed and falls apart, because enough people remember another name and know what it means:
FREEDOM.
When this fake pandemic crisis is declared “done,” several themes will emerge. They will be promoted in various ways, employing many messages. I’m talking about official government and media propaganda.
First of all, the “pandemic” will be described as major turning point in human history. A great shock to the system. All sorts of professional shills and bullshitters will talk about BP and AP. BEFORE THE PANDEMIC and AFTER THE PANDEMIC.
We will be told, “We can’t go back to the way it was before.”
The first great propaganda theme will be: HELP US BUILD A BETTER WORLD. This message is for the sincere people who want to pitch in and do good, in a collective sense. “Let’s build a better world where we can avoid these pandemics, or see them earlier. Let’s form a civilization where equality and justice for all is the top priority. Let’s all share and care…” If you’re looking for logic, forget it. In whatever way they can, the propagandists will imply that somehow the pandemic was a signal that we must “do better.” We must “get through it together” as we did during the crisis. The love we showed then must be the love we show now. An appeal to idealists everywhere who fall for vague generalities like cats fall for catnip.
The second great theme, aimed at the educated class and the technical types and the scientists and “thinkers,” will be: ORGANIZATION. “We must organize world civilization more effectively.” Because somehow, that was the problem Before the Pandemic. Lack of organization allowed things to get out of hand. We can’t any longer be separate groups and nations going their separate ways. Too much disorder. We need better structures in every phase of life. We need more interconnection and coordination. The educated class loves this stuff. It fits their image of success. If society operates like a machine, problems will be solved.
The third great propaganda theme is aimed at all sorts of people who emerged from their lockdown and self-isolation, took a walk in a park on a spring day, and suddenly remembered what they had been missing. Their relief nearly reaches a point of hysteria, as at the end of a World War. The theme is: NEVER AGAIN. “We don’t want to go back to those dark days under any circumstances, and whatever it takes, we’re on board. Tell us what to do.”
With these themes in hand, the technocracy can be enacted. We’re all for building a better world. We must organize it with t’s crossed and i’s dotted. And we must never go back into the dark.
Unless people remember what is left out. THE INDIVIDUAL. And FREEDOM.
Technocratic operators are counting on us to forget. They’re counting on many people who value freedom to say, “Well, it’s all hopeless. I know what freedom is, but too many others don’t. So why bother. I’ll just surrender and float on the tide.”
Floating is an illusion. The tide moves in a planned direction. Toward a shore that isn’t pretty.
Are things pretty now?
That’s called a clue.
-Jon Rappoport
