DUDE, why do you have a native bird in your house!?

Cricket is indeed an Australian Native Noisy Miner. He was orphaned as a nestling during a storm and rescued from stormwaters. Ideally he would have been raised to being able to fend for himself then re-released however his extremely young age, specific species and being a honeyeater tend to make for a very difficult re-release.

Cricket turned out non-releasable and as such would not survive in the wild without a flock. I am a holder of the required licencing and certifications to have his species and as such him staying with me is the best option for him as he can live out his lifespan comfortably in a safe enviromnent where i ensure he recieves ideal nutrition and appropriate space to stretch his wings and engage in as much normal behaviour as is possible.

The alternative to me keeping him would be effectively sentencing him to death in the wild through exposure, predation or death/injury through attacks from the already established and territorial flocks of Noisy Miners.

Can you tell us a bit about you?

Why not? I'm an aussie and a transman who's been on T since ~2017-ish. I am open about my identity as a transman and im always happy to answer questions about this, offer tips and advice to those newer to transitioning or who would like to start but dont know how to. All i ask is that if youre going to ask questions you remain polite and open minded (in other words dont be a bigotted asshat or you get the block)

Im a huge fan of animals, particularly the less conventionally cute and cuddly and hold certifications in Reptile Zoology, Herpetology (study of reptiles and amphibians), Zookeeping, Australian Native Wildlife Rescue and Wildlife Sustainability & Conservation.

Ideally i would love to eventually get into work in the rescue and rehabilitation side of things focused on Australia's native reptile species.

I already keep rescue bearded dragons to give those who need special help or rehoming a second chance that they may not otherwise get and through this i have experience in managing and treating various health concerns in these animals. I recently took in a now 12 month old (as of january 2025) dragon who needed rehoming and i have a now extremely elderly dragon i took in as a rescue back in 2018 in terrible condition who i have nursed back to as good a condition as is possible. This one is a real fighter and has made it through so much in his little life. As of january 2025 thig guy is an estimated 11 years old at MINIMUM with potential to be even older than that (amazing considering the usual captive lifespan is 10-12 years and this guy didnt have the best start to life), he's beated a very nasty tumor and due to his very old age is now blind, has arthritis in his feet and drools on one side of his mouth. He doesnt let this get him down and is amazingly still willing to excercise via swims in a warm bath. I hand feed him and assist him with his hydration nowdays as his blindness makes it difficult for him to find food and water unassisted.

Okay I don't know why I didn't notice this until now, but this year has been a year of taking in more information I've ever taken in. For example, I remember reading Laura Jane Grace's autobiography in 2019. I do remember being very impressed with it and enjoying it a lot. I don't remember though being able to process and understand the meaning behind it. I barely remember anything before the last chapter. Now I feel as if I remember a lot of the past 7 months. Which I know sounds dumb. Like "oh I remember something more recent better than something farther away." But until now I thought i was in an infinite state of mental fog. Not only that but i have been unable to read a book for a LONG time. So me actively wanting to read is insane. I don't think im getting better mentally. But I do feel less inclined to be on my phone lately. I feel like going outside. I am emotional once again. Am I sick? Am I healthy? Did getting a concussion force me to avoid my phone and make me realize I can do other things? Idk.

I think im going to test this. I'll start reading LJG's autobiography again. I will try to walk more this month to be prepared for going up north and going on trails for Halloween.

I think I hit a reset button when I got in that car accident. Idk. I dont like to assume things are going well. Especially with the recent scary times. I could be riding the high of being paid tomorrow. I could be riding the wave of this being the month I get health insurance. Huh. It's almost like having money and basic needs met means you're not gonna want to kill yourself (as much).

I know too that those who see me on this app will see me reblogging a lot at once. But if you pay attention closely, it's usually all in quick bursts instead of a constant stream all day. Granted i am back at work so that helps.

the mask was so cool, it even had a voice changer in it! it was fucking awesome, when you breathed it would replace it with the darth vader breathing sound AND it would even make you sound like vader when you spoke!! idk how something from when i was a kid was able to do something like that but it was awesome. sadly the voice changer in it died a while ago, it still slightly worked but not consistently last time i put it on D:

So ive started to impose "rent" on myself so I can start budgeting for a real apartment. Ive decided to take 500 from each check (twice a month) an move it to my savings. It'll help me grow that safety net while also make me think about what expenses are most important.

I'm actually incredibly relieved to find out that my last paycheck, for the 2 weeks I barely worked due to the infection, I was still able to take out that 500 and put it in saving and still have something in the checking account.

I'm not 100% sure what my actual rent payments may be, the apartments I've looked at are between 750 and 1000+ but some of them also include utilities so thats a plus.

My plan is to leave illinois behind next October. I want to celebrate my next Halloween in my own place. I intend to keep 90% of my Halloween decor out as general deco because heck you its my apartment! Lol

I can't wait. I'm so ready to take that big step to being an adult and having my own place. Ya, home right now is "my own" but its not, really. Its still my parents house. I just... don't feel any sense of ownership cuse, well, I dont. An apartment will be all mine. I can put up my madoka magica scroll without having to take it down when they come home (they already think I'm a lesbian, don't need to give them more evidence). I can hang things on the wall (command hooks are the best) and finally display some of my figures and things in fun ways. I can decide what my whole living space will look like and screw anyone else's taste.

Most of the places I'm looking at have some nice outdoor space that I can make my own, too, without a whole lot of maintenance. My number 1 pick has a fenced in patio with a small grass space. Enough for Rosie to be able to go and potty but not enough that I'll have to mow for a hour to keep it nice. Since its Florida ill have an almost infinite growing season so ill be able to make my little garden really shine.

I know there will be hard times. Renting is not easy street by any means. Im hoping the places I like has an older population cuse then I won't have to deal with kids screaming at all hours.

Uhg. Now the dog is grumbling so I guess I gotta end my rambling for this morning. Just... needed to vent I guess. ^^;
