adrien never went to public school / adrienette have never met AU where Ladynoir are dating but Marinette has beef with Adrien Agreste™ on twitter, spurred by her interest in the fashion industry and her friendship with Mylene. ads are all over the place of Adrien promoting products like air in a bottle and NFTs and just generally so many products that are extremely poor taste/bad for the environment. Marinette tweets about beauty standards in the industry and all the shit Gabriel brand does to the environment and how Adrien Agreste perfectly encapsulates it all.

Adrien, of course, never responds to any of her tweets. her tweets are just white noise in the background. she is nowhere near on his level. one day Marinette tweets out something akin to "if I saw Adrien Agreste irl i'd punch him in the face" and her twitter gets banned for Threats of Violence, Alya draws attention to the injustice of it via the Ladyblog and suddenly "I want to punch Adrien Agreste in the face [gets banned]" becomes a bit of a meme. NOW people know who Marinette is and are listening to what she's saying (on her new account or whatever). Chat Noir also tweets that he wants to punch Adrien in the face

A hashtag trends. Marinette caves and starts tweeting about the scandals of the industry on her Ladybug twitter too. Adrien's twitter and instagram comments are flooded with both threats to punch him but also just generally critical comments like "nice pic and all but are you not going to address the sweatshop allegations?". Adrien still does not address it. At most he turns comments off. Marinette is gnawing at the wood of her desk.

Then a Ladybug and Chat Noir identity reveal happens.

Marinette is stunned. Absolutely mouth agape. Cannot form words. Chat Noi— NO, ADRIEN— ADRIEN FUCKING AGRESTE looks at her and is like "oh ha :) .... Marinette Dupain-Cheng, right? You're the girl who wanted to punch me hahaha"

after recovering from her world being shattered, she's like...... "hahaha...... um............... yeah...... uh..... so you... DO know who i am. and you're just. ignoring it then. hahaha... ok... thats....... fine..... anyway..... u-uh...... im not... gonna actually punch you. but. um. k-kitty do you um. maybe want to stop promoting deforestation and all that"

this is kind of a hashtag summaryofart but also kind of a hashtag artvsartist because i put myself at the end i guess whatever i cant be assed to do two of these grids. end of year thoughts under da cut

i didn't have a lot of free time for leisure drawing this year... i feel like i say that EVERY year but idk looking back at my tumblr archive.. its not lookin great. I really worked my ass off at my day job most of this year like the show i was on was pretty challenging and kept my brain churning on it even after hours. plus every freelance job i did this year.. PLUS the fact that I did I think 10 (if im counting right?) conventions/tabling events?? I feel like I did a lot of merch prep to fill out con tables and such but i really long to do bigger illustrations and comics and i didn't really get the time to.. I'm actually planning to do less cons next year because I think I did too many haha. for the first time I'm feeling the temptation to fill out these "summary of art" memes with a big NDA square or whatever because I'm really proud of a lot of the art i made this year but.. unfortunately ...i can't show any of it! at least not yet. I've always thought the nda joke was just an excuse made by artists who feel ashamed about not drawing outside work (or smug about having paid gigs). and in a way i still think that but for once i can empathize a little lol. While I didn't get to spend as much time on personal work as I wanted this year... I'm still kinda proud of the stuff I did make! I spent a lot of 2023 when I was unemployed going to figure drawing sessions and I think it really paid off, I feel a lot better about my character drawing now. Not... not 100% confident but a lot better than I used to feel about it haha. like i didn't really draw that many bgs here bc i drew so many bgs at work I didn't have the energy for it.. but the characters actually look good i think so! I'm happy about that.

re:different interpretations of a particular character across media. Not the same anon but I think an accessible point of comparison is in comics especially Marvel or DC where different characters are regularly reimagined and can sometimes vastly differ depending on the writer and story that writer wants to tell. Like the Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie is vastly different from how she was originally conceived (and even from movie to movie depending on who’s directing). And they’re both different than how she is in the animated Harley Quinn Show or who’s writing her in the comics. They’re allowed to act differently because they’re operating in different roles for different purposes. Transformers has basically always functioned like this too. The Harley in B:TAS isn’t going to act like the one in the Harley Quinn show because it would be out of character for that version of her, the same way you wouldn’t expect Starscream from Transformers Animated to act like the one in Prime. Not to say these shows don’t have their issues, but I just bring it up to express that continuity wise it’s more about maintaining internal consistency within the story and the following through if you set something up to be payed off eventually then adhering to strict rules for a specific character.

Yes! I think that's what I was kinda getting at myself (I feel like I lost my point in the post and the subject maybe, because now I'm rereading it and it's more of op saying "he's within his character to act this way!" And that's ok! 100%) but yes anon this is kinda what I was getting at.

Esspcially since I used to be a very big Marvel fan, these characters have seen so many variants of each other. Even in uts own media, Loki being a great example both in and out of comic, in the mcu and his own show.

There are Loki variants, they all kinda uobokd these "Loki like" traits, however they are their OWN person ,their OWN Loki. With different stories, roles, personalities that make them unquie but still inherently Loki.

I feel this way with Starscream and his Variants. As you said TFa and TFP are , both Starscreams but they are very different. They share the deviousness, cunning, and backstabbing nature. They both are kiss asses who won't hesitate to kill you if he sees an opening. But put them in a room they are so different in how they go about things.

I feel Tfa is way more stubborn and head strong, wanting to be cunning but also lieo LEMME KILL THIS BITCH IM SO DONE BEING SUBTLE- while TFP is way more prone to cowarding away from things. It fits both their narratives and their responses to their own Megatron. Because TFA Megs is NOTHING like TFP in the slightest.

Same as G1 and Sky bound Starscream. Look the same, BUT ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE SAME. Sjosjdjdd who have a smol silly villian for giggles to literally murderous psychopath. Lol

I think that is my problem with TF:ES and Armada going into the rest of the trilogy. Is the Obvious want to step away from these inherently Starscream characterization, and IMMEDIATELY backpedleing.

You can not, set up this character to lead into an arc, to address these issues and then. Not only abandon it. But use a poor excuse of exposition, to say "Well Starscream does what he does." When in the VERY SAME SHOW, you have SHOWN his actions to contradict that very explanation.

No it is not in Earthspark Starscream's character to do and be bad because that 1. Wasn't established to be the case and 2. The episode of his introduction was literally based off of "Starscream is as selfish as they come" and SHOWING that statement to be FALSE by saving Hashtag.

I get the perspective that , Starscream can and should be allowed to be evil/bad as he has always been. You're allowed to enjoy that ! You're allowed to enjoy him that ! I do in his variants even if I make not like the media he come that time (looks at Sky bound) but I can appricate it.

However, it is also allowed to want more than this copy paste character for him. Because he is allowed to be different for each story, esspcially if the story sets him up that way.

I think as the reader/audience the biggest problem, with not just Transformers, but things like Marvel/DC, anything adjacent that has reoccurring characters of different variants to just. Is to have the expectation that they MUST abide by these characters "rules". And that to break them, is to some how destroy the character. People are allowed to want more for a character in a franchise that is not afraid to change up their characters. For better or even somtimes for worse, not everything will go well (Bayverse COUGH) but its a different take. And there is a reason some ppl prefer these things that are not aligned with the norm. because its different.

Yes Starscream can be evil, and that's ok. But wanting some change ina a franchise where these characters have seen so many changes in design, character, personality and backstroy. It is also vaild to want to see Starscream take into those changes and commit to them. He doesn't have to be a super ubber sweetheart, but it be nice for him to be a lil better and be able to come around like other cons do.

Alright: Arkhamverse Scarecrow! Whaddya think 'bout him?

(Both Asylum and Knight, since he doesn't show up in City and Origins and Shadow is before he became Scarecrow, so no actual costume yet)

oh em gee its time .... its time for my hashtag Scarecrow Hot Take. i worry this one shall be divisive so i apologize in advance knight truthers </3

if i am perfectly super honest. i MUCH prefer jonathan in asylum than knight. ive already said before that i like when Scarecrow designs have Scarecrow elements, and while asylum jon admittedly doesnt have many, he at least has more than knight. he also has Actual Color! im aware that the arkhamverse style has always been kind of dark and gritty (as soon as u appear in arkhamverse u become allergic to baths) , but the later designs especially became way more mellow color wise and i dont find designs of just grays and blacks very interestign, ESPECIALLY when in the context of these beign comic book characters . the fear toxin provides nice pops of colors but idk, i would prefer a nice brown the way asylum has - even though his clothes are just brown, they still have color ! i also love how asylum lets us see how thin and gangly he is, i LOVE his proportions, while knight just kind of looks like a regular guy body type wise. not to mention i like asylums voice WAY better , i will take more high pitched scarecrow over lower gravelly scarecrow any day, i think its more unique and also suits him better because under the costume hes just a nerd u know overall, i know a lot of people love knights design, but i am asylum all the way. the one thign i will say i prefer would probably be knights face - i dont like asylums mask all too much - but everythign else i like way more and i think its kind of a shame that they shifted jon over to beign more "traditionally" scary for the game he had a bigger focus in. i dont hate knights design at all ! (there are some scarecrows i REALLY dislike and he is most certainly not one of them) but in a competition between the two , for me it is not close </3

so there's a lot of ways to chop this one…

"racism and capitalism still exists in the future" is a trope that it's kind of limiting / always grates me in some ways (it feeds into the anti-racism of ppl whose politics doesnt trascend idealist philosophy -> that is, it is an anti-racism that can't conceive of an end to racism bc it doesn't actually have a political project that address the material causes of racism and just tries to fix the "natural prejudices" away with "education". in other words, it cant portray a word without racism bc it cant *conveive* of one.) . however i think im more open to it this time / this series since s11 onwards the focus has been so much on telling stories about the present with scifi make up on. and i think this one manages to do that rlly well. ___

another vertice to look this one on is whether... is it really "doing anything" to have racism portrayed on screen (and other bigotry) in a scifi story? if u already experience racism or understand it happens, who is served by this? it's hurtful to watch and it's like missing the chance to "show a different world" is possible thru scifi. and the counterargument to that is on a """""color blind"""""" 2020s world it is rlly cathartic and re-affirming to have stories that *show* the realities of the world, and that dont shy away from showing those realities in fear of them coming off as "over the top" (bc they arent. some ppl will still walk away from this ep thinking "haha fun satires" but like. this is literally how White Rich People Talk. in real life.......) and again in this one time i think it works really well bc doctor who has… probably never done this? lol there's moments with martha and ryan for example, but never going this hard on it. but im open to discussion tbh. i think the angle of "is this a story about racism for white people to learn or is it a cathartic for *black / brown people to experience catharsis in" is gonna be one for fruitful discussion in the future. ___

besides the socio-political points,,,, bro this episode was a thrill ngl sdlkjf like so many simple, excellent moments like the girl walking into the light post. the made up slang and the real slang!!!!. the excellent interior design. "ruby and fifteen react to doctor who". just lots of fun little details. the execution was really inspired.

character point -> tbh fifteen at the end feels like a bit of Growth from like, ten at his worst moments -> "he's not the person you would have chosen to survive, but if you could decide who lives or dies, doctor, that would make you a monster"

also kinda wonder how this episde will hit for newbies / Not Us. i think a lot of its gut punch comes from dw never doing this before and so the strenght of subverting those expectations. is this an story that stands on its own w/o all the 60 years of context? we'll have to show it to our normie friends and see lol

ranking things we had to read in english classes but it will be updated whenever i remember books we read cus idk i have a bad memory and im not looking stuff up to check myself on any of this. bleh

1. great gatsby. our 60 smth year old teacher stopped the class to make sure we all understood they had gay sex. also i finished fast cus i liked it so much and then i read fanfics of it in class. i dont likw the ending but i get why it happened thematically 10/10

2. to kill a mocking bird. i cried a bit ngl. pretty good. based lawyer and cool kids and nice neighbor but also idk just wow. 9/10

3. the outsiders. okay so this was 7th not high school but i cried a lot. amazing world building and playing out of it. i hate that happened but i get it. 9/10

4. frankenstein. went so hard actually. good job mary. yeah i created this thing and then was horrified by it and neglected it I wonder why it hates me. victor was a twink and should have gottwn with his bestie who kept getting him out of depression. also that spencer quote from smosh "queer little fellow, and gay to bw sure too" 8/10

5. a streetcar named desire. it was fun cus we had different people read out all the parts and some people were super good at it. but also it made me viscerally uncomfortable at many parts. i think that was the intention but i dont have to like it. i dont really remember how it ended. 7/10

6. antigone. yeah go girl. idk it was short i dont remember everything. wow i keep saying thay but hashtag memeory problems. i made art for it as an assignment thats pretty bad but i liked the story well enough. 7/10

7. romeo and juliet. it uh. made me make ocs and we got to use swords to act out a scene. based af. 6/10
