kinda wild how dimitri’s character is known to be  ‘ tortured by his own compassion ’  thereby implying that as dead set as he is on getting revenge for what happened during the tragedy he must also hate himself for it and despise the significant parts of himself that relish in bloodshed and hatred b/c that sort of cruelty has never and will never sit well with him regardless of whether or not its his own hands or someone else’s   &   dimitri likely was so quick to accept the role of an absolute monster b/c he already thought of himself that way simply due to what he felt and imagined on the inside even if he had not yet done anything too atrocious at the time .

anyway  ,  dimitri hates himself   &   the kindness in his heart is constantly at odds with the hatred that is also present and he is  ,  at almost all times  ,  slowly ripping himself apart as he fails to devote himself to one side or another of himself .
