heyyy, would it be alright to ask for a kin match up? ive seen people request multiple sources, so anything danganronpa along with a my hero aca kin matchups would be great. if that’s changed just danganronpa is alright too haha
if i had to describe myself in one word it’d be “awkward.” i’m awkward, i’m constantly tense, i second guess everything i do! i wish i could be one of those social butterflies who just make friends so easily! i really admire people like that, and sometimes i find myself watching them from afar. not in a creepy way i just love seeing how smooth their conversations goes and i just wish to be in a group of enthusiastic friends. surprisingly enough, i always end up friends with closed up people. i kind of like it! i in these situations im the one that holds the conversations, which is something i can appreciate. despite being too awkward to hold a conversation, i always have deep and intense conversations with people like that. i’ve been told i always know just what to say to make them feel better, but im not sure about that. i’m not that good at describing my personality, the main thing i can see is im awkward. i can be funny as a result of that awkwardness though, and i consider myself a genuine person.
im a huge procrastinator. when it comes to things like work and school im usually late, and my responsibilities are done sloppily. every once in a while, i do an outstanding job. i get really proud of these moments but honestly they’re the only moments allowing me to have responsibilities anymore. when it comes to interests it depends on the day, but the one’s that have remained consistent are painting and playing video games. i also like stuffed animals and collecting them, but i find it kind of embarrassing. when it comes to painting, i enjoy painting flowers and scenery!
i just go with the flow, and while that way of thinking has come to bite me in the ass a few times, i never think about fixing it. i enjoy being lazy, and i can step up if i wanted to, but i’ve never really wanted to. i don’t have any goals, mainly because i’m a bit afraid of the future. spending a day with someone i trust m, platonic or not, is always something im up for. i’m not picky on what to do either, i’d love to teach you paint or we could go see an abandoned building. as long as i have someone by my side i feel like i can do anything.
I kin assign you with...
Ryota Minitari
Firstly I thought of Ryota Minitari, Ryota is more awkward, timid, and anti-social. He also tends to second guess thing sometimes and has to force himself to buckle down and get work done, like his animations and sutch. He tends to look up to people who are social much like Makoto or Gozu. He mainly watches things and doesn't speak too much, though can when needed. He probably can hold a decent conversation with his friends or other people. Though he'd probably be more anxious when talking to others and holding a conversation. Ryota can also be serious sometimes so it helps when he's trying to talk or help someone out or overall just in a serious event. Ryota can sometimes probably have projects and sutch overdue because of certain deadlines, but he gets it done regardless. Though as long as his work makes the people watching or seeing it happy, he's happy. He also tended to spend a lot of his time with the ultimate impostor. Along with his ultimate he's probably good in the art field of things.
Toko Fukawa
Secondly I thought of Toko Fukawa, Toko's definitely on the more awkward and shy side of things. When in friend groups she's still pretty shy or awkward though that shows more when in larger groups, but she'll hold a conversation if she has too. She may end up accidentally saying something she didn't want too, but it could come off as funny sometimes. She also probably watches conversations from afar rather than joining in them. She probably also second guesses herself and her choices a lot as well. She's proud of her writing and things she likes to do so that could tie in with you as well.
Chihiro Fujisaki
Lastly I thought of Chihiro Fujisaki, Chihiro is more awkward, timid, and shy, though they're passionate with things they like much like with their programming skills. If you mention something they like they'll probably have an easier time leading a conversation. Though Chihiro isn't the best with conversations, especially in bigger groups. They'd probably watch from afar and try to take a few notes here and there. Chihiro could probably make a few things like art too due to their programming skills. I also think they'd have a small thing at least for stuffed animals.
•┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈••✦👑✦••┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈•
Tamaki Amajiki
Firstly I thought of Tamaki Amajiki, Tamaki is definitely more awkward, shy, anxious, and timid. Which is easy to pick up when you first see him in the show. Though he has more enthusiastic friends he still pretty shy, though can hold a small conversation if he needs too. He'd probably prefer to just spend time with people he knows pretty well and stick close to them instead of going off on his own.
Izuku Midoriya
Secondly I thought of Izuku Midoriya, Izuku can definitely be more awkward at times though he can keep a conversation when he needs too even in slightly larger groups. He's pretty nice and could probably be of big help when people need it or in other words knows just what to say. He's probably into some type of art due to drawing and taking time with his hero suit. He's probably not too picky with what he does either as long as he's with his friends.
Koji Koda
Koji is definitely more shy or awkward and hardly ever speaks unless it's to his classmates, even then he's still incredibly silent and prefers to use things like sign language to communicate. He loves animals and even owns a few stuffed animals himself!
I hope you're satisfied with your results!
Yeah Danganronpa and My Hero Academia is fine it's the ones I'm most comfortable with doing and the only two I've been asked to do so far

📻cp event, im introverted and very shy but open up more around my friends. i like joking around and making people laugh at at least a few people think im funny, ive also been described as kind of eccentric. i sort of go through phases where ill be really interested in something for like a week and then move on to something else by the next week lmao, but i pretty consistently like video games, bugs, and creepy stuff. i like sharing random interesting facts but sometimes they can be morbid. 1/2
im autistic and have some pretty bad mental health problems so whoever im with would have to deal with that kind of stuff. im also very touch starved and crave physical affection a lot lmao. some of my other interests are astronomy, nuclear energy and renewable energy even though idk much about any of them yet. for the 3 characters im picking bruno, mista and risotto. i hope this is enough im not super good at describing myself 👉👈 WAIT i change my mind for my top 3 if thats ok, i want either bruno mista or polnareff (part 3 pol). im sorry ris
———————————————————————
Cupid’s Pick for your match made in heaven is...
... Bruno!
———————————————————————
I’m autistic and have some pretty bad mental health problems so whoever I’m with would have to deal with that kind of stuff.
I matched you with Bruno specifically because while Mista and Polnareff cares for and are loyal to the people they consider family or friends, the both of them are the type to be taken care of rather than taking care of others. They care for you, that’s for sure, but they aren’t as good with trying to take care of you compared to Bruno.
Bruno has been putting many people ahead of himself for a very long time. He has a really big heart and has the capacities and abilities to be this way, so by default, Bruno would know how to tend to your needs better than Mista or Polnareff.
Bruno also always knows what to say, and he also has the resolve to see things through no matter what as long as it’s for a good cause. Mista and Polnareff imo is a bit clumsier in that aspect
I’m introverted and very shy but open up more around my friends.
Both Mista and Polnareff are seen to be more sociable than Bruno, which is great in breaking the ice, but that may be uncomfortable for some because they’re just immediately friendly (if they don’t suspect you). They don’t mean any harm ofc, but Bruno is just gentler than they are in his social skills. He’s literally the perfect gentleman and friendly figure to ease you into opening up because he’s observant enough to know what to say at what moment.
Bruno also has the ability to reign others in if he notices you being uncomfortable at some of the others’ extroversion. He also seems like the type to successfully help you be more open (without making you too uncomfortable) with his own friends and family.
I like sharing random interesting facts but sometimes they can be morbid.
I see you getting along well with Mista with this because he tends to share odd or morbid thoughts and theories himself. 10/10 in conversations revolving interesting facts because he would take those facts and turn it into a conspiracy theory involving something off the walls lol
Bruno would listen and try to share the facts he knows too, and also would dispel some if he has first-hand experience knowing it’s not true.
Polnareff looks like the type to enjoy perverted facts more than morbid facts tbh lol, but he is very impressed that you know so many things
I’ve also been described as kind of eccentric.
All three of time have no problem with this because I mean look at them? Or well, look at their stands?? To non-stand users, these 3 literally just look like they’re getting punched in the face or turned into an old man for NO reason LMAO
Bruno especially has no issue with this because he’s not the most ‘normal’ too, and he’s practically adopted a bunch of other people who don’t look or act the more ‘normal’ either, so you’re in pretty good hands with him because he doesn’t judge you like that
I sort of go through phases where I’ll be really interested in something for like a week and then move on to something else by the next week lmao, but i pretty consistently like video games, bugs, and creepy stuff. Some of my other interests are astronomy, nuclear energy and renewable energy even though idk much about any of them yet.
Bruno would indulge in your interests the most imo.
I can see him encouraging you to learn about your interests and even learn with you (if he has the time). But his ideal is motivating you to learn and then have you tell him all about it. I can see him as the type of person who loves it when you start talking about what you’re interested in.
Doesn’t mind joining you when you’re playing video games too! Although, ya gotta have patience with him on this because imo he’s not the most skilled when it comes to gaming
He’s also not that judgmental or creeped out with your enjoyment of bugs and creepy stuff. He seen worse in person, has actually killed people, so it doesn’t shake him when you tell or show him those kinda things.
I like joking around and making people laugh, at least a few people think I’m funny.
I can see all of them enjoying this trait of yours, but Bruno especially.
He likes that you want to make others laugh, and thinks its endearing that you want to make him laugh and feel joyful. Fills his heart up honestly because he’s always thinking of others, so the fact that you’re thinking of him and trying to bring joy into his and others’ lives? His heart swells at that, at the implied sweetness with this trait, whether your joke is a hit with him or not.
I’m also very touch starved and crave physical affection a lot lmao.
As long as you communicate this with Bruno, he will (try his best to) deliver. I see him as not minding PDA at all too, in fact it comes naturally to him, so he’ll always be touching you somehow in public (holding hands, his hand on your back, letting you loop your arm with his, etc.). I also HC him as someone who has lot of love to give, so once you let him know this fact, he’ll be sure to remedy it and channel most of his love to you in physical touch.

✧ .・゜゜hello, lgc admods!
chwe hunji and jin eunji’s leaf wants to say: “hey admods! i know this may look a little sudden and a little weird but by the time you see this, i’ve been going around asking all the members what they want to say to you guys to show their appreciation! i know admin e probably already told you, but i used to do theater for about two years and i volunteered my time. i probably worked fifteen-thirty hours a week at a theater and i did not get paid and barely was thanked but i always put in effort. i gave them one hundred percent of myself and, if i was lucky, i would get a five dollar starbucks gift card in return. i was so exhausted and even stopped writing because i could not handle how much of myself i was losing every day. i gave a hundred percent of myself away and got five percent back. now, though, with legacy, everything has been flipped! you guys put a hundred ten percent of yourselves into this amazingly fun and honestly complicated place and i feel like i never get to give back. i know the joy of it all is in watching people write together but for me, just having fun was not enough, i wanted to compile something together for you guys! you do so much for us so i thought it was time i give just a sliver of myself back to you. so! under the cut is a lot of people’s messages that i’ve gathered. a lot of members were unable to send in something in time so i do apologize that not everyone is here, but i added a space in the bottom for anyone and everyone who wants to add something at a later date, so admins and members, be sure to check that often! in the meantime, though, you guys are so amazing and this place already means so much to me, i really hope legacy can continue to grow and flourish beyond your guys’ dreams because you really deserve it! p.s. the below notes are not in any particular order of length or alphabetized, they’re just random C:”
han insoo’s al wants to say: “thank you for your kindness and dedication. you guys are troopers. i’m not very vocal about things publicly out of shyness but also bad experiences. i hope you guys know i appreciate to be here and that you guys have kept this up for so long despite the setbacks. it’s been a while since i felt comfy in a directory. much hugs and kithes!! thank you for being so open and welcoming!” kang yonghwa and choi daehyung’s muffin wants to say- "thank you so much for all of the hard work! legacy is not an easy rp to run with all these career branches and events going on. i appreciate all of the mods for making this rp extra special by celebrating birthdays, holidays and other occasions. I love you all muahhhhhh~" liu jiao and ok miyoung’s faye wants to say- “i disappeared from the rp scene for awhile and was kind of lost when it came to fitting back into everything. but joining legacy helped me along and i am so glad i decided to put my muse here. thank you to all the mods and for all of their hard word. i felt so welcomed by not only them, but the other members of the directory as well. so thank you for the lovely community you’ve brought together here. i am happy to say that legacy holds a special place in my heart.” yoon shinha and pongsak, tee's simone wants to say: “when i first joined legacy it was because i had some friends here and i had read about it a lot on twitter. i was nervous and scared, which is how i usually feel when joining a new place. working on my own points page from scratch was a first but i was proud of myself and i felt accomplished when i finished it. i joined as a connection and it gave me a boost when it came to plotting. everyone was so nice and welcoming and i honestly love that when joining a new directory. the events were many and i was both excited and scared at how many there were. even if i couldn't understand something i knew i could ask an admin or mod and would get a quick reply. i love how kind and supportive the staff is. i've been here for a few months now and i always recommend it to others. i know that no matter what, i can go to a staff member with a question and i don't need to feel stupid for asking something bc the staff are so helpful and understanding. the thought that goes into this roleplay and the events are amazing and i am honestly so amazed every time a new event gets posted. they give sufficient time frames for events and i know they try to make it as fair as possible. i honestly love it here and i love the hard work and the time that is put into legacy.” park taekyung and heo jane’s bobbi wants to say: “thank you for taking the time to create this awesome community! the time and effort you put into this rp is what makes it such a fun place and i hope that this post brings you just as much joy as you bring us! <3" mayura nana’s cc wants to say: “i’ve been on and off in the group, seeing the first time it opened and how hard working the admins were to coming back and seeing the amount of growth in just a few months. i truly appreciate all that you guys have done for your members, the patience and love you put into every little thing you do so everyone can develop and enjoy themselves. you guys make this rp fun and safe and i’m forever grateful to have found a true home for my muse. keep up the good work and i can’t wait to continue being here and witnessing even more love and growth from the team ❤️” park seojin, im hana and kang seyoon’s sara wants to say: “hello lovely team. it's been a great ride thus far and i'm so happy to have been here from the beginning to see the community grow. you've built a really nice and wholesome place here and it's been one of the best roleplays i've been in so far. it's hard running things but always remember that people love and respect you and so many of us are rooting for good things every day. you're human too and if you make a mistake, never beat yourself up over it. you keep things so much fun. truly nothing more i could ask of from a team. i’ve sent other messages in the past but there's really no limit to the praises and support i can offer to you guys. keep up the good work!! ♡♡” wu aaron and kim alex’s em (aka the awkward cookie) wants to say - "to the amazing admins of this rp, i haven't been here nearly as long as others but i really enjoy having my muses here! i love lgc so much and you're all amazing admins who work very hard to keep this place running with amazing events! keep up the great work and i can't wait to see what else you all have planned! (please torture alex as much as you can. xD) i don't think i've really talked to the admins here much but still, i love you all and everything you do! <3 please don't let any negative comments or reviews get to ya'll and just know you're all doing great!" choi jongsuk, son jieun, and kim jinah‘s jen wants to say - "@ the mod team from your resident meme! you guys know how much i love lgc. i'm not shy annoying y'all with compliments and praise. every sunday is a highlight because there is always something exciting being posted- be it just a date lottery update or new events; you never fail to surprise and spoil us all with fun and creative ideas! also the way you manage to keep things as fair as possible for everyone and still manage to not make anyone feel left out or left behind. the quick replies to any kind of questions are just so nice to see and it makes me personally not scared ever to ask anything at all no matter how stupid the question may be! i probably annoy y'all with how often i said this already but i love this rp. i love the graphics, the concept and the execution of it all. thank you for creating this amazing space for all of us to write and hopefully to many more years! true to my name i shall exit on a meme~" hwang subin and han allie’s nic wants to say - “hello admins!!! it's me, a nic. i know that i've said a lot of this in the past but to sum it all up, i love you guys!! thanks for giving me a place to feel a bit more comfortable when i don't feel that way in rp a lot lately. i love that you guys are always gracious and accepting of criticisms, questions, and critiques and i hope you continue to always be that way because i think it's important for rps to listen to their members. i also want you to know that you don't have to stand for rudely stated words just because you do that, either!! i appreciate the time you take to answer my questions, whether it be through the manager blog or through discord and for all the opportunities you've given my muses ( even if ONE of them might not be so grateful. i'm lookin at u subin ) so yeah ;u; i hope u all are having a lovely day, pls take care!!!” tsai sunisa, park sarang, and jung jihye’s the ghost rper wants to say - “number one, thank you for making legacy an rp! i'm having a lot of fun with all of muses! especially since it's given me a chance to bring muses i've played before alive in another rp. two, they're [the admins] awesome for all of the stuff they've managed to do for the group and how many options you have to be apart of the industry and do more background related stuff! third, just stay awesome and remember to put yourself before rp! since without ya'll we wouldn't be here!” min soyoun and kim jinseo‘s clara wants to say - "hi mods! thank you for making lgc a fun and safe haven for us. i appreciate the love, thought, and effort you all put in every single mission/event that happens in the roleplay. you guys are doing amazing!" kwon sihyun‘s shinobi wants to say - “thank you for making me feel welcome!” park iseul and ahn dohyun’s nine wants to say - “thank you so much for all your hard work! over the months i've been at lgc i've always felt like the admods have kept every single muse in mind when creating events and moulding the rp to fit the members. i've never felt as in love with an rp as i do now. keep up the good work, i can't wait to see the rp grow more and more!” choi max and im nari‘s jada wants to say - “hi there mods !!! i didn't want this whole appreciation to go by without saying some words of my own, so here i go ! when i joined legacy a few months back i was hesitant to even join, doubting that i'd want to stay to make it even past the next activity check. it was an act of pure impulse, but perhaps the best thing i could've done ! alongside the many great friends i've made along the way, if it was not for all the hard work you do, the roleplay would not be nearly as lively of a universe as we've all made it to be ! i always compliment legacy for the dedication you all clearly have to making it enjoyable - from events going on all the time, to in-character posts that liven the spectrum of our creativity, to your speedy responses and patience whenever we have trouble ! i think me and the rest of the members can agree that what you do makes us enjoy the roleplay even more, and we always will be appreciative of that !! i think you guys run the roleplay SO smoothly at times that we forget the hard work you put in and the bumps you might encounter along the way, but it's times like this that make me realize how much more we should thank you. because of the team behind it all, i've once again found my place in a roleplay that's made me feel at home, and always ready to write and have fun !! i'm extremely grateful for the passion you've shown us and i hope that i too can do my best to make sure your hard work pays off and give thanks ! i'm looking forward to writing with all of you and giving a voice to our muses for as long as i'm able to type, haha ! <33 “ ahn yeoreum’s kay wants to say - "my first experience with krp wasn't exactly the best. i didn't land myself in the most welcoming environment and was planning to never join another krp. but i took a chance in lgc and didn’t regret it. since day one, everyone has been so welcoming and i loved playing yeoreum here. the admods have worked so hard to make this such a nice environment to rp in and i love how well thought-out all the events and activities are. thank you so much, admods !! we are super lucky to have such a talented and hard-working team. <3″ ji haneul’s maddy wants to say - “to legacy admods uwu, thank you for your endless hard work! seeing how the community has grown over the last few months, as well as the tons of opportunities for character development has made my time here absolutely amazing. i just want to say how much i love the rp, and how inspiring it can be in churning my writing muses. keep up the good work, and i hope you guys would also be able to have as much fun as the work you've put in in maintaining the rp! take care, stay safe, and stay awesome >:D *flings plushies in your directions* ♡" lee seungjae’s fifi wants to say - "hello admods!!! i just wanted to say thank you for everything that you've done for lgc! i haven't been here long but everything about it is great and i can tell you've put in so much work to make it the great place that it is!" kang dana‘s jay wants to say - “thank you so much for working so hard on this roleplay and allowing all of our characters to develop however we like! i have never enjoyed a rp as much as this one <3" hwang jaerim and im hyunjin’s jia wants to say - "hello admod team, yall know im always here to bother u all with my weirdness and you guys are all great to talk to. i've been lucky enough to have been here since day 1 and to see this place flourish and see all the efforts you put into the rp, makes me glad to be here. thank you!!" oh max and park viggo’s lyn wants to say - "as one of those muns that has been in legacy from the very beginning, i've witnessed this rp grow and i can’t help but to feel extremely proud and happy for the admod team who works tirelessly to make sure that the progress isn’t only with the rp but genuinely with the muses within it. the admins take it into their own hands to celebrate the achievements that muses have obtained and put them on the spotlight, personally i've experienced screaming and getting emotionally overwhelmed with some of the mods at how happy and ecstatic i felt with some of the results for my muses. with that said i want to make it clear that my muses don’t always get what they want, when it happens, i do share some down time with said mods as well- not to complain but to just talk. the same happens vice versa, when the mods' muses don’t get a spot in future dreams or didn’t get the center of a group, or when they land a cf spot or has made progress by moving on a different path, i'm able to witness their reactions as muns as well- which quite frankly is humbling considering that it reminds me that their muns too and not just mods. essentially what i'm trying to say is that based on my experience and mine alone although i have no doubt i'm not the only one who feels this, clearly this post proves it, that the admod team is not just there to provide us with countless numbers of events or answer our endless amount of questions and woes with admirable patience or guide us in the right direction when we misplace a point or two in our submits, but rather to present us muns with a safe and progressive platform to comfortably establish and allow our muses to flourish in a highly entertaining environment. so thank you legacy team for your heartwarming and admirable work, i know this hasn’t been easy for you guys but hang in there, a lot of us got your backs ♡"
these are the folks who wanted to add something after this post was first published:
no one at the moment! if you want to say something to our lovely admins please either message them through the lgckrp askbox or, if you’re more shy, send me an IM or send it to lgchunji’s askbox with your message in quotations, which blogs you run, and your name/alias!

[TRANS] 180110 - MXM Interview with News1
Q. You came back after around 4 months with your 2nd mini album, ‘MATCH UP’. It’s a speedy comeback.
Youngmin: “Even if we want to release an album quickly, it’s not up to us. I think we were able to come back quickly because our fans gave love to our first album. (Our speedy comeback) was thanks to the love of our fans.”
Q. When I saw the jacket picture for ‘MATCH UP’, I realized both of you transformed drastically. Donghyun’s silver hair especially stood out to me.
Donghyun: “The company suggested silver hair to me. It was quite a new and drastic try, but fans unexpectedly liked it, so I feel proud and thankful. My hair became really damaged then, so my hair is currently dyed back to a dark color.”
Q. Compared to the last album, this 2nd mini album doesn’t have a lot of the members’ self-composed tracks. Only Im Youngmin participated in the lyrics for ‘DIAMOND GIRL’. Is there a special reasoning behind this?
Youngmin: “We actually prepared for our ‘MATCH UP’ album while promoting for ‘UNMIX’. Because we were focused on promotions then, we weren’t able to participate in working on our album. We wanted to place our self-composed tracks on the second album as well, but since it had to move quickly, we couldn’t help it. It’s something we feel regrettable about.”
Q. What’s the reason you chose ‘DIAMOND GIRL’ as your title song? Are there areas where you changed musically?
Youngmin: “We didn’t have ‘DIAMOND GIRL’ set as our title song from the start. While deciding what song would be good as a title track, we all discussed it and made that decision together. ‘DIAMOND GIRL’ is a song where we tried out a lot of different things than before. Along with it giving off a funky feel, it also has a retro feel. It’s a fun song.”
Donghyun: “We are sturdier this time musically. Since we prepared it so that even the other album tracks can give off different charms, you should look forward to it. If you felt a ‘freshness’ during our debut album, you should be able to feel a ‘sophisticated’ feel this time. If we emphasized our freshness during our debut as rookies, we plan to appeal with our sophisticated and relaxed sides during ‘MATCH UP’.”
Q. Once you comeback on the 10th, you will be participating in what is being called the ‘January Song Competition’. Aren’t you worried about competing with large-scale singers?
Youngmin: “Rather than be worried, we are anticipating it. I’m really happy that I can personally see the stages of our seniors. I feel especially happy that I will be able to see the stage of Block B seniors, whom I like the most, from the side. Isn’t it already success enough to firmly show MXM’s own charms among these famous and popular seniors? We want to show a charm that’s even more playful and energetic than before.”
Q. I’m curious about what rank you have set as your goal for the music charts.
Donghyun: “Since confidence is important, I want to set my goal high. I think I would be really thankful if we could rank within 15th place and continue that rank.”
Q. What is the goal you wish to achieve through ‘MATCH UP’ promotions?
Youngmin: “Something I felt while promotion for our last album is that since we’re a duo, there’s a limit to what we can show performance-wise. Even our dance formation was either left to right or back to front. (Laughter) We made up for our performance area during this album. In ‘DIAMOND GIRL’, there’s a ‘ring dance’ where we give off the image of a diamond ring. I want to show a cool performance.”
Donghyun: “During ‘UNMIX’, we were only allowed to promote on music broadcasts for around 2 weeks. This time, I hope that we can promote for a longer period on music broadcasts and create more opportunities to meet with fans.”
Q. You guys opened your first fanmeeting in October of last year and met with fans. It probably felt even more different since they were fans who came to only see MXM.
Youngmin: “We entered while wearing suits, but the lights shined on us like stars and the cheers of many people pierced through my in-ear. I really can’t express how I felt at that moment in words. It was electrifying. I could feel that I’m receiving love from this many people, so I felt overwhelmed and thankful.”
Donghyun: “Surpassing chills, it really felt electrifying. It was really a new experience. Near the end, I felt myself tear up.”
Q. Isn’t MXM a duo? Then are there times where you argue?
Donghyun: “Although we don’t not have times where we fought, we make up with each other right away. We really resolve it right away. (Laughter) Since it’s just the two of us, it’s good that we can focus on each other and communicate with each other right away.”
Youngmin: “Since our personalities are opposite, we try to match with each other. Although I’m quiet, if there’s something I want to say, I’m the type to say it right away. Donghyun normally has a bright personality. We match along with each other.”
Q. What kind of songs do you want to show as MXM?
Youngmin: “Although there may be people who think MXM are ‘hip-hop idols’ since we’re under a hip-hop label, we want to do a variety of music. Donghyun will also continue to pursue his acoustic music.”
Donghyun: “Our CEO always encourages us by saying, ‘Since you guys are in a hip-hop company, it’s a definite that you guys like hip-hop and become used to hip-hop. However, never throw away the music that you’ve normally done and I hope that you could continue creating upon it.’. If given the opportunity, I think I should be able to show acoustic music through either our next album or at some place like a fanmeeting. I also learned rap for a bit. During our first fanmeeting, I also did the rap part for ‘Boys And Girls’. (Laughter)”
Youngmin: “I am also working hard in learning vocals. You can hear a short piece of it in our album this time. Although it’s still lacking, I’m working to gradually increase my abilities.”
Q. Does MXM not have any personal promotion plans?
Donghyun: “Although I do have a desire for it, it hasn’t been long since we’ve shown MXM to the public, so I think I still want to show a lot of MXM’s music for now. There aren’t really any personal promotion plans.”
Q. Is there something you want to really do while doing MXM?
Youngmin: “I really want to go to an awards ceremony. It’s okay even if we don’t receive an award. (Laughter) When I saw my ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ friends go to awards, I felt jealous too. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try doing while dreaming of becoming a singer.
Q. You made shining results in just one year from trainees on ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ to becoming singers. It must feel astonishing.
Donghyun: “There really were a lot of events. I think the year passed by in the blink of an eye. 2017 was a really meaningful year to me. It’s when I became an adult, did my first broadcast, and debuted. I also held my first fanmeeting and appeared on a music broadcast. I think it will stay in my memory for a long time.”
Youngmin: “This year will mark the 10th year since I’ve dreamed of becoming a singer. Last year was the time I looked forward to while dreaming of becoming a singer. It still feels like a dream. That’s why ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ will always stay in my memory and makes me emotional. Even when I just hear ‘나야 나 (Pick Me)’, I can remember the atmosphere then and the emotions felt. Even when I meet with my friends now, we talk a lot about ‘Produce 101 Season 2’.”
Q. Haven’t those from ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ successfully settled in the music industry? I feel like you would feel proud.
Youngmin: “Although we competed through ‘Produce 101 Season 2’, we all held the same dream. After Wanna One debuted, the others went back to their own places and prepared to debut, but it felt meaningful that we all met quickly again and I felt proud. It’s something that’s fascinating and that I am thankful for.”
Donghyun: “I still contact the JBJ hyungs often. They’re having their comeback a week later this time as well. Donghan joked around by saying ‘Are we meeting again? I’m tired’. (Laughter) I’m also happy that we may be able to see (Lee) Woojin and Rainz hyungs soon.”
Q. Do you still continue to stay in constant contact with Wanna One’s Lee Daehwi and Park Woojin?
Donghyun: “At first, it was difficult to stay in contact, but we’re doing it often lately. Of course, they’re still busy as always, but since they’re kind, they contacted us on New Year’s as well. I received a call on my birthday too, but they didn’t congratulate my birthday and just hung up. (Laughter)”
Youngmin: “We do call each other, but I think they’re shy. The four of us don’t really say embarrassing things to each other.”
Q. You guys are the first idols from the hip-hop label, Brand New Music. Do the senior singers from your company give you a lot of advice? And is there an artist you would like to work together with?
Donghyun: “Our seniors comfort us a lot. They give us musical advice as well as warm words of encouragement by saying ‘We’re watching you well’. We’re also always thankful because the music PDs say that we should work together. Although I would like to work on music with everyone, I especially would like to do a collaboration with Hanhae hyung. Since I liked Hanhae hyung prior to joining Brand New Music, I wanted to stand on stage and work on music together with him.”
Q. You guys participated in last year’s Brand New Music concert. Isn’t it the first time as artists and not trainees?
Youngmin: “The largest event that Brand New Music hosts is the Brand New Year concert that they do at the end of the year. We stood as back-up dancers for Kanto senior in 2016, but we were able to proudly stand on stage as MXM this time. We also did collaboration stages with our seniors, so it was a meaningful time.”
Q. Please tell us your promotion determinations for this year.
Youngmin: “I’m happy that we could be together with our fans for the new year of 2018. As much as I am happy, I will give back to the love. Because my personal goal this year is to enjoy it, I hope that there could be a lot of moments to enjoy with our fans while doing this set of promotions.”
Donghyun: “The reason we were able to come back quickly with our second album was because we wanted to quickly stand in front of our fans and show a lot of sides. I want to show a varied side of myself than our promotion and showed where we’ve improved in our skills. And more than anything, I hope that we could have more places to be together with our fans than before. And more than anything, I hope that everyone could be healthy.”

The Art of Coding
What a milestone: The demoscene was recognized as a Finnish national UNESCO cultural heritage.
It is a breakthrough for Digital Culture: In April Finland accepted the demoscene on its national UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The Ministry of Education and Culture listed the demoscene on proposals from the National Board of Antiquities and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Expert Group as national cultural heritage of humanity together with eleven other cultural practices.
And shortly afterwards the Ministry of Culture and Science in North Rhine-Westphalia announced that the demoscene was nominated for inclusion in the national German UNESCO cultural heritage register. Together with three other cultures, the jury selected the demoscene as worthy of recognition from a total of 18 applications. A great success for Tobias Kopka from the Cologne-based applicant Digitale Kultur e.V., responsible for the application in Germany and the community work of the overarching Art of Coding initiative.
Making Games talked with Tobias about Art of Coding, the demoscene and his further plans.
Co-initiators Andreas Lange (r.) and Tobias Kopka presenting at the internal UNESCO conference about “Immaterielles Kulturerbe im urbanen Raum”, Dortmund July 2019.
Making Games: Please give us a short overview of your career in the gaming industry and your current position. Tobias Kopka: My background started in the demo scene. From the early 90s on we gathered on so-called demo-parties, and from there many of my friends went into game development, or closely affiliated industries like tech and security, and so did I. In the 90s and 2000s I worked in the tech-space, too, while doing my master in Media Studies and Political Science in Cologne. First appearances in the games industry started around 2007 with academic exchanges and workshops on mobile content development and a research project on Serious Games at the international film school in Cologne. Within this project I was also in charge to organise my first conference, which was on physical movement, learning and games. Which was actually super-stressful, but gave me a taste of what it means to bring awesome people together, curate programs and be a facilitator of connections and projects – in short: which got me hooked on the dopamine conference work life cycle. Bigger projects started with the first two editions of Next Level Conference in Cologne, and really took off with joining Aruba Events in 2012 for almost six years – being the Conference & Program Director for Quo Vadis, Berlin, and Respawn Gathering of Developers, Cologne – and also part of the team in the first year of devcom before moving on to the international level. Nowadays I’m the Festival Director of Ludicious Zurich Game Festival and also Head of Community Relations for Reboot Develop Conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia and Banff, Canada, whereas I have good chances to slip in demoscene knowledge and connections here and there.

What does the listing as National Inventory of Living Heritage in Finland mean for the demoscene and for Art of Coding? For AoC it was the breakthrough, as it confirmed majorly, that the scene is matching pretty well with the UNESCO criteria for an immaterial cultural heritage from an application standpoint. For the Finnish scene I don’t want to speak on their behalf, but let me just say: people were pleased. For example, Remedy Entertainment (founded by sceners) sent out a tweet that day celebrating the success with reference to Future Crews “Second Reality”, a true demoscene classic and self-reference to their history. On a meta-level the national recognition means, that the scene now can benefit from the responsibilities and duties for a UNESCO member state, which are connected to a national listing. In article 13 of the UNESCO convention, the signing countries are obligated “to ensure the safeguarding, development and promotion of the intangible cultural heritage present in its territory.” This may support party organisers to raise funds or sponsorships and acquire facilities very concretely. Also, it will help us with preserving and discussing our cultural heritage not only within the scene but also via professional heritage institutions and experts in archiving and preserving digital culture for the years to come. As it will also help them more easily to justify spending money on research, archiving and preservation of something like the Demoscenes cultural history. And lastly but most importantly, it can help tremendously raising the awareness and attract new and more sceners with fresh perspectives and influx as it might give a spike in mainstream media. It is also a nice experience for many sceners and ex-sceners to hear about, as they love the idea that their personal history gets looked at from a new perspective, as a living breathing culture with relevance in its history and style.

How did you even get the idea to found the initiative and apply for it? The actual idea goes back to a collaboration with Andreas Lange, founding director of the computer games museum in Berlin and nowadays secretary of the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects (EFGAMP), in 2010. Andreas was building exhibits for the newly opened permanent exhibition of the museum and I curated and edited three videos for the permanent exhibition on behalf of Digitale Kultur e.V. for giving an insight into the demoscene. We knew each other before but stayed in contact ever since, especially during my five years working on Quo Vadis during gamesweek Berlin, as Andreas was in charge of Gamefest. One thing which connects both of us is that we have a passion for not only the practical and historical side of game development and games culture, but also still feel attached to the academic and social discourses around it. The actual idea spawned out of a conversation between the two of us two years ago, on where we see digital culture and also the challenges around it, and why neither games nor the demoscene or hacker culture, let alone Open Source etc. were deemed as cultural entities on the same eye level then our traditional cultural heritage.
How long was the decision-making process, and how exactly was it? After the initial idea, it took us a moment to mull over it. As it’s clear this is a project which will go on for years. So far no money involved, but it involves a lot of community work – scenewise and on the external cultural policy landscape. Addressing one of the largest cultural institutions in the world with a mission to put a subculture of the digital sphere – which is by the way very cautious for its independence and self emergence – on its official lists, is not an easy thing. But with all questions in mind – we decided to go for it and build a process, which constantly has to balance the community work, the application coordination in different countries and the outward-facing initiatives towards the public, press and institutions. But first and foremost it’s about the scene, not to talk over the scene trying to superimpose a discourse or theme which isn’t really there, but build momentum for positive results. Big part of this is to build trust and keep people attached while gaining momentum at the same time. For me, it’s a great method to connect the personal history with my professional perspectives in media studies, game development and conferences. And to tell the story how a decentral and pretty competitive culture can build an absolutely marvellous community at the same time, which is producing breathtaking content for decades and a strong identity of international style, but also not shying away from the challenges. Building or expanding the scene relations is especially key for making sure the community is involved (which is no easy task in a decentral and informed and very decisive culture). Also making sure that the content is incorporating many perspectives and aims of sceners, based on conversations all around – while integrating these perspectives into our approach of the initiative and formulating directions on a meta-level. As we don’t want to define one perspective about the scene, as there are many as it has members – which is a key component of a decentral digital culture. But so far so good, sceners and also supporting institutions have declared their support in many countries or have joined the mission already, so we are on a good way!
We remember the 1980s when game fans sooner or later came into contact with the demos contained in cracker intros. How big is the demoscene and how relevant is it today? As there is no official census, we can only roughly gauge the numbers. We estimate it’s around 5,000 – 10,000 active sceners and many more people semi-actively attached to the scene. This is based on the numbers of people we see active at main community sites. Based on numbers of submissions at demoparties and on community-sides like pouet.net the numbers of active groups are in the hundreds, and in terms of demoparties are all over Europe and also beyond in US or Japan for example, as you can see on demoparty.net. Of course the median age of the members goes up each year a bit, and this is also one of the reasons why we wanted to initiate this initiative. So more people can join if interested to share their coding, or music or artistic skills or any other kind of creative contribution to the scene, or just join the community for the fun of it. And like all other events right now we have to face the same challenges: all physical events are postponed or moved online because of COVID-19. Revision, the biggest demoscene party worldwide was recently aired online during Easter, and at Evoke we are assessing the situation. Sceners can’t wait again being in the same space for 72 hours straight, from competitions to awards, voting to seminars, personal exchange and also celebrating friendship and the newest achievements together. Why the demo scene is still relevant? There are so many reasons: The self-imposed limits in the competitions generates creativity outside of the ordinary, the community centers around knowledge, challenge and excellence, making things happen in unseen ways, and there is also a kind of digital heritage which is preserved admittedly, keeping some of that early-computer-time spirit alive, just to name a few aspects. Since I joined in ‘92, every year the scene was discussed “to be dead”, and it has seen many changes and iterations. But at the same time, the scene renewed itself, again and again, is very vibrant and developing furthermore.
The hall at Evoke 2019. Evoke is an annual demoparty and for more than 20 years. It’s taking place at AbenteuerHallenKALK in Cologne, Germany.
What are the characteristics of the demoscene in general and the Finnish demoscene in particular? Just a few examples in bullet points: Size coding, live coding, shaders- and engine creation, all kinds of platforms for producing demos, pixel graphics competitions, music-tracker competitions, newcomer awards, audience voting etc. As you said the scene has its background in the cracker scene of the 80s and 90s, with strong European focus, but worldwide influence especially on people who got into programming and game development. Many studios were founded or influenced by demosceners. Every demo has to be released on a demoparty, and only once. The demoscene is caring for the heritage in old school competitions, and at the same time it’s pushing for the boundaries what is possible technically and creatively in self-imposed limits. The Finnish scene has been one of the most active worldwide and is tight knit. In competition with some other Nordic countries, there is probably no national culture in the world that has been more influenced by the demo scene like the Finnish one. This is because Finland also identifies nationally with its technology companies and games companies that represent innovation. Accordingly, the companies that have emerged from the demoscene are also something that people in Finland might like to identify with. Concrete examples are Housemarque or Remedy. But also on the association level, in the museum landscape or in academic discourse – everywhere people are positively open-minded towards the demoscene, probably also because it represents their own technological history and the technical and intellectual founding field of the later games industry, be it in PC or mobile. And to this day there is one of the biggest LAN parties and games events in Finland with the Assembly, which has its origin in the demo scene, which dedicating till today a complete exhibition hall with an own fully equipped stage to the demo scene for three days every year. On a meta-level, one can perhaps say that the North has a certain advantage in digital contexts because of long winters, a strong community identity (if you’re part of the Circle of Trust, you feel it for sure), and honest and clear feedback. My experience is that Finnish culture is characterised by a knowledge-oriented, pragmatic “no-bullshit” attitude, without being unfriendly or demarcating at the same time, which is very helpful in creative-technical, but also social movements. Our demoscene-group Haujobb was also composed in its high times essentially from half German, half Finnish members – which might explain my slight bias in this direction. Nevertheless, the scene has its own history in each country, and despite all the enthusiasm for Finland: overall, the transnational identity of an international scene is the core message – also in the application.
Where can I watch some of the works? If you’ve never seen some demos, a great start is on our AoC homepage (demoscene-the-art-of-coding.net), where we have put some Youtube playlists in the about section. Other great works, which won the Meteorits this year (kind of the yearly Oscars of the scene) are linked on the Meteroriks website (www.meteroriks.org). And if you like what you see, the best way how demos are meant to be shown and consumed are of course Software generated in realtime in a few kilobytes or megabytes. The biggest community resources for this are the community-site pouet.net and the file archive of scene.org.
What’s next? The final aim is to be accepted as first digital transnational culture on UNESCO intangible cultural heritage lists. Germany and Finland were the initial submission spots – now we focus on building momentum in more countries based on the submissions which were successful so far. The scene is a strong European phenomenon, but has activists around the whole world – and especially hundreds of thousands of people, who have been influenced by the scene in some point in time – and hence feel attached majorly. So, if you have background in the scene, and want to push forward an application in your country – or want to help sceners with this – check our website and get in touch via email or our Discord!
