"excuse me.. are you my blind date?" you ask slowly, tapping the shoulder of the guy whose back is facing you as you entered the cafe that seunghan had told you to go to (it was your favorite cafe)

the boy jolts up in surprise, not really expecting his supposed date to arrive just minutes after him. when he turns around, your eyes widened

it was sion. seunghan's friend

"uhh" you start, unsure on what to say. maybe it was just a coincidence that sion was here. yeah that had to be it. maybe he was meeting up with a friend here too. "sorry, i thought you were my date" you laugh awkwardly, eyes looking around the cafe in case there was another customer

but the cafe was currently empty

sion suddenly stands up, "it's fine! i'm waiting for someone too" he says, scratching the back of his neck out of nervousness

so he's here for the same reason, what a coincidence, you thought to yourself. you nod at the boy, racking your brain for some small talk. this whole encounter was totally awkward beyond belief. you can't believe you thought sion was your date

"oh! have a seat! while waiting for your uh.. date" sion stammers, clumsily pulling out the seat he was sitting on earlier and offering it to you

you smile at him as you accept his offer. what a gentleman, you think as you feel him push the chair in for you

"thank you" you murmur quietly, smiling ever so slightly at sion who gladly returns your smile, shyly hiding his face

you take your phone out to call seunghan. on the third ring, he picks up

"hanie i'm now at the cafe. did i arrive too early?"

"huh? if you're now at the cafe, then he should be there too" seunghan replies

your brows furrow. you take a glance around the cafe once more. it was still empty. the only people inside being you, sion and the baristas

unless...

"wait sion's calling me. i'll call you back"

before you could even respond, seunghan hangs up. you slowly lower your phone, eyes drifting towards sion when the realization creeps in

you watch as sion's eyes widened. his eyes diverting to you and towards the entrance of the cafe repeatedly like he wanted to escape. he covers his mouth in shock at what can you assume is seunghan telling him that he had set him up with you and then the sion ends the call

"so.." you start, fidgeting with your hands as you look at sion who was turning red, "we're each other's blind date..?" you say it more of a question rather than a statement

sion bites his lip, lowering his head in embarrassment before he nods his head

"i guess we are.."

it's silence after that. you're not sure if you wanted to laugh or die in a hole at the absurdity of it all

sion clears his throat, still kinda avoiding eye contact, "well this is.. unexpected"

you let out a chuckle, leaning back on the chair

"seunghan really does work in mysterious ways"

sion suddenly bursts out giggling at your joke (more like a jab towards seunghan). well, at least that kinda broke the awkward tension between the two of you

"wait, do you still want to go through this? it's fine if you don't feel comfortable" you ask sion. there was nothing to lose anyway since you were already at the cafe

sion is a little caught off guard with your question but he nods his head yes

"i mean we're already here" sion points out, "... and i don't want to deal with seunghan whining about this much longer. i've had enough" he adds, making you laugh

"oh don't even get me started!" you laugh

and with that, the atmosphere had completely shifted. the two of you had managed to start a conversation that didn't involve awkward laughter. then again, you two had a common denominator which helped with the conversation to keep it lighthearted even if it meant on shitting on seunghan (you two mean well)

"do you want to order? so we have something to sip on while we talk" sion suggests, eyeing the menu from your table. you nod your head yes, getting up from your seats to walk over to the front

"i'll have one iced spanish latte please" you tell the barista. sion takes his time to read the menu but ends up ordering the same thing as you did

"make that two iced spanish lattes" sion corrects the barista. the barista nods as she writes down on the cups

"name for the drinks?" the barista asks, looking up from the cup to the two of you

"seunghan" you interject, snickering to yourself at your own joke. sion simply shakes his head as he tries to hide his laughter

the barista nods, not really understanding what was so funny. she inputs your orders onto the register and tells you the total amount

"that'll be ₩12,700" the barista says

you grab your wallet from your purse to pull out some cash but sion beats you to it by handing the barista his card

"let me pay. it is our first date" sion hums, shyly smiling at you

you feel yourself blush at the act. it's been a while since you've been on an actual date. the way sion phrased it made your heart skip a beat even if he didn't really mean it in that way

sion pockets his card and looks at you, sensing that you were staring at him

"i'll pay you back my share" you insist, grabbing your wallet to get some cash

sion simply waves you off, chuckling a little. "it's okay"

"but–"

"just consider it as seunghan treating you. then again, he does owe me some money" he laughs

you purse your lips. you don't really like being indebted to people no matter how big or small it is

"i insist on paying back sion. i won't be able to sleep if i don't pay you back" you pout, trying to win him over. it was true though. you wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it if you just let him

sion contemplates for a little. he would feel wrong if he lets you pay him back because again, this was your first date. first impressions are key with these type of things

"next time, you pay" he blurts out without thinking

you raise a brow at him. next time?

it took sion a few seconds to process what he just said out loud. when he does, he covers his mouth in shock. but before he could defend himself, the barista had called out seunghan

"two iced spanish lattes for seunghan!"

sion gets your drinks while you follow him. you two return to your table before he spits out a million apologies

"i'm so sorry" sion apologizes, hiding his face with his hands while you try so hard to bite back a laugh

"don't be. there's still a next time" you joke, repeating what he said just a few moments ago

sion groans, "it's not like that! i didn't mean it like that— i mean not really but—"

you finally let out a laugh, taking a sip of your drink

"it's okay sion" you giggle, "i'll definitely pay next time"

sion removes his hands from his face, looking at you

"... so you're saying there really is a next time?"

you shrug, taking another sip

"maybe. depends on how this date will end"

sion's eyes widened at your bold statement. to him it almost sounded like a challenge but he decides not to think too much far ahead because he was still kinda doing seunghan a favor by going on this blind date

"so sion, tell me about yourself"

its been a couple of hours since your blind date with sion had started and surprisingly, you were having a great time. so much that the cafe you two went to kicked you out for staying too damn long. now the two of you are in a parking lot of a convenience store sharing an ice cream pint. mint chocolate to be exact

"i love mint chocolate" sion hums, savoring the creamy taste in his mouth

you let out a laugh, grabbing a spoonful of ice cream. the flavor sion had chosen doesn't really matter as you did tell him to get what he wanted and that you'll be paying for it as truce from him paying for the date earlier at the cafe

"you know.. i had fun today" you say out loud, looking up at the night sky. you've spent the whole afternoon with sion and you had a great time

"me too. you're not so bad as i thought" sion chuckles, licking his spoon clean

you playfully roll your eyes, nudging his shoulder

"even if this was all orchestrated to get your mind off of things, i hope you still had fun with me" sion smiles, recalling all the things you told him about how and why you even opted to going on a blind date with him

you pause for a moment, twirling your wooden spoon in the ice cream. you had told sion everything earlier at the cafe. you didn't want to have his hopes up in case he was looking for something romantically after this date but luckily for you he wasn't looking for anything serious either so that definitely eased your nerves about this date

"oh definitely. you being friends with seunghan and wonbin definitely helped" you say sarcastically. while it was true that he was mutual friends with your friends, it was still nice to have an outsider perspective on things (you also told him about your current situation with wonbin)

sion laughs, scraping off some ice cream on the edge of the pint

"like i said earlier, i'm not really looking for anything. i only went because seunghan wouldn't shut up and our project that's due in literally 3 days is on the line" sion shakes his head as he remembers seunghan's words. he really will get seunghan's ass after this

you laugh, covering your mouth. "sorry. it was my fault for pestering him. i didn't think he'd involve his own friends"

"oh trust me. i know seunghan knows a lot people but guess i was the unfortunate lucky winner" sion scoffs before looking at you, "it was nice to get to know you though!" he adds, in case you got offended with what he said

you wave him off knowing he meant it with good intentions

"i didn't think i'd get to know you after the whole keychain thing. i think i kinda owe you my life now" you say, recalling the time you initially met sion was because you dropped your keychain

"oh yeah! i remember that" sion smiles at the memory, "you looked like you've seen a ghost when i handed it back. it must’ve been special to you"

yeah, it was special. it was the keychain wonbin had won at the arcade when he introduced you to his friends for the first time. the keychain that you kept close to your heart at meant a lot in the past. you're not sure if you can even look at the keychain the same anymore

"oh touchy subject... sorry" sion says awkwardly, catching the frown on your face

you shake your head

"no it's okay. i just remembered something" you say with a tight smile. sion nods in understanding, careful to not ask more any questions since it's was personal

the two of you just sit in silence after that. just passing each other ice cream til all the creamy delicacy was finished

"if you ever need a distraction again then i can keep you company" sion teases, flashing you a teasing smile

you raise an eyebrow at the boy as you contain your laughter

"oh really now?"

sion shrugs, "i mean given the situation and that we both don't want anything after this but it's cool to have a new friend and all"

you look at sion as he rambles off. you take this time to take a good look at him. you slowly start to realize that he wasn't just your blind date

"okay" you nod your head, "i like the sound of that... friend"

sion claps his hands together. at least something came out of this blind date that seunghan forced him to do

you suddenly lift up your spoon, holding it towards him like you were about to do a toast

"to unexpected friendship because of a blind date" you propose

sion bursts out laughing at your proposal. he grabs his own spoon and clinks it against yours

"to unexpected friendship!" he muses

you both share a laugh as you drop your spoons onto the empty pint of ice cream. the start of something new as they all say

sion walks you home not long after. as you were walking along the empty streets of your neighborhood, you can't help but reflect on today's events. you had walked into a blind date expecting nothing but to come out with a new friend. maybe it's what you needed after what has been going on for the past few days. it's like life's own way of saying that not everything goes according to your plans but a reminder to move on when things don't seem to be yours.

maybe you needed a new perspective, a new outlook amidst everything and most of all— a fresh start.

arriving at your apartment, you let out a big sigh of relief. glad that the whole blind date thing was finally over

as you were removing your shoes, you catch a glimpse of wonbin's keychain dangling on one of your school bags that was hanging by the door. you halt your movement as you stare at the four leaf clover keychain

the way it was dangling made you think that it's reminding you of what you've been doing with wonbin. you're still hung up on him despite him making it clear (to you) that your relationship with him isn't going anywhere

more than friends, less than lovers

with a deep, shaky breath, you hesitantly unclasp the keychain off your bag

you stare at the keychain that was now on your palm. your chest tightens at the memories that this keychain holds. the quiet tension, the unspoken words, the way you felt whenever you were with him, it's all bundled in this keychain that you kept so close to your heart

shaking your head, you place it onto the dish plate where your spare change, keys and junk go. just in case...

but right now, you think it's better this way

i feel like he is SO the type to text you any second he can SPARE. since he cant call you as much as he wants to and i fully believe he'd much rather call (so he can hear your voice he's sappy on the low) and he's extra grumpy about it, so he works w what he has.

he texts you pretty much every second he can and it ranges from a "make sure you eat something, dummy <3" to "i'm going to kill every single fucking person in this room" LOLOLOL and these mostly come when he's in meetings bored out of his mind.

he constantly asks for pictures too, like you could be like "oh i just saw the cutest little kitty :33 !!" n he's like

"send me a pic" and when you send it he's like "i meant one of you but i'll take it"

you're eating ? send him a pic your outfit of the day ? send him a vid and give him a twirl while you're at it. he wants to see you as much as possible to make up for the fact he's not there.

very much not a people person so most of the time you'll def catch him glaring at his phone (usually when he's waiting for a reply from you) and occasionally smiling at it for a few seconds (when you send him a picture, something funny or cute) before he covers it up w his hand.

he makes it a habit of calling whenever he gets more free time, and usually when you're about to go to sleep just to wish you goodnight, and by that i mean threaten you to go to bed and adding a lil love you it cus he's such a dreamboat
