genuinely obsessed with these guys saying both nicholas and danny are classical female archetypes in romantic comedies but as guys bc yeah, yeah you're right
can a big city girl who's married to the job and is unlucky in love and is also a guy and a manic dream pixie girl guy ever fall in love? the answer is yes, watch hot fuzz
this podcast is analyzing hot fuzz AS a romantic comedy and its so funny i love them so much

on god micah i cannot tell you whether the MI franchise is good because like you i wasn't that impressed with the first movie BUT i randomly watched mission impossible 7 DEAD RECKONING in the cinema and it was seriously such a good experience its REALLY fun. Its not amazingly good but it's definitely very fun and Simon pegg is SOOOOOO number 1 everything. dead reckoning is also good and fun and features simon pegg being yippee awesome but that's about all I have to say on the subject. they aren't life changing but they're silly and ive been tempted to rewatch since ive been thinking abt Simon pegg. Also pls tell me about the circumstances in which u met him in person 😯
this is so sooo tempting bc im already watching action movies for just one guy so why not do it for simon pegg...... if they are fun thats really all i need and from the vid it looked like they embrace the silliness (unlike SOME franchises 🙄) so this may have convinced me. i do love stupid stunts and fun group dynamics so.... i met simon at a convention yesterday!!! only briefly bc it was just a picture opportunity but i told him i love spaced (have you seen spaced? if not i defo recommend its so fun and his character is so girlfriend) and he said "you were probably zero when it came out" and said i had good taste :3 he was also wearing a cardigan this is important to know too. if he comes to a convention up here again i am going to choose an autograph so i can properly talk and annoy him about spaced and the cornetto trilogy

Okay, I got back from Everything Everywhere All At Once, I have some thoughts:
1. I demand more movies about figuring things out as an adult please. I am only in my mid 20s and I've already reached my lifetime "children have to save the world" movie quota, and I can only imagine it gets worse from this point forward.
I need to know that I can continue to change, that there will still be opportunities as I get older. Michelle Yeoh can, and should, play every upcoming role designed for whichever is the current <20 year old heartthrob.
2. Holy Shit this was a difficult movie for someone who has a rough relationship with their mother, especially when they fought yesterday...I know she would hate this movie, and that she wouldn't want to understand it either.
3. How do I find a person who is just happy doing laundry and taxes with me 😭💔 asking for a friend because I'm lonely

hi 👉👈 i was wondering if you had any tv or films that you draw inspiration from for cie? id love to hear abt them!! (and im looking for recommendations : ))
hi! it was so hard limiting this to just Conspiracy in Emerson influences 😂 asking me what TV and film influence my writing is a good way to keep me chatting for hours... i'm trying to keep this succinct tho lol.
i feel like some of you are gonna be like '...what? this is what you watch?' but... yeah! it is! (and fair warning: a lot of TVTropes links below the cut. try not to get sucked in!)
even though I never revisited it after my first viewing at like... 13/14, the anime Marmalade Boy will always influence any teen drama I write 😆 The same goes for Lovely Complex, but the live-action film adaptation. Is that specific as hell? Yes. Is it one of only a handful of romcoms I love to death? Also yes! It catches that hesitation and uncertainty and fixation on every tiny hint (and the resulting stupidity lol) of teen romance in such a pure way that I somehow still find myself rewatching it every few years or so 😅 even despite my romcom allergy and having outgrown high school stories years and years ago. and it always holds up!
As for inspiration specific to Conspiracy in Emerson... I actually think the most direct influences spoil quite a bit about the directions i'm going in (aside from the thousands of hours of true crime and cult documentaries I've got in this noggin...), so I sort of have to pass 😅 but for sure the films Cruel Intentions, Heathers, and Jawbreaker influence it to some degree (though I haven't watched CI in at least a decade and won't be rewatching any of these again until beta); I wouldn't apply the term 'dark academia' for the theme, though, because there is a very specific aesthetic tied to that (one that is, uhm... Eurocentric to the degree of instinctively making my skin crawl), but CIE is sort of my take on that--thematically speaking, anyway. idk--i don't think it can be considered academia if there's zero academic gameplay xD
And since the game is driven by characters and social interaction, my inspirations for that are any character-driven show that is slathered in thick layers of pure absurdity and/or chaos: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, Reno 911!, Atlanta, Community, Peep Show. Same for films but the Cornetto trilogy especially. These are the biggest influences to my tone, humor, and characterization 😊 no contest! oh, and the reality shows Flavor of Love and Mob Wives. Do not take those as recommendations 😂 (especially not season 3 of Flavor of Love; that is just irredeemable trash )
Oh but actually... The biggest influence on this project might be the old [adult swim] show, Moral Orel. There aren't necessarily any parallels? (upon editing, that may not be true but I won't elaborate.) But it's one of the darkest, funniest things ever aired on [as] imo. Feels like every aspect of that show is etched into my creative psyche 😂

not the anon for the other ask but! YEA the cornetto trilogy!! im such a big fan of all three. i bought the boxset the other day and im planning to rewatch all three tonight. i love the worlds end sm as its such a testament to pegg and frost as actors as well as a really cool way to show gore without making the viewer shy away? and the STORY... :(( ive gotta say hot fuzz is my favourite though - i really love nicholas and danny! and small towns (villages) with dark secrets... weak for that trope
HELLO YES cornetto!!! gosh that's So great I hope you enjoy your watch! I've yet to watch them all in one sitting actually, I've got to do that sometime. The World's End is absolutely my favorite, you're so right it really shows their acting range, I absolutely love Nick Frost as Andy he's incredible. I have so many damn feelings about that story man, it's so good. and the aesthetic,,, the visual style,,, gory robots full of blue stuff is straight up the best I love the look the Network and the blanks so much
Hot Fuzz is also good! it's lower on my personal ranking, I just like Shaun of the Dead more, but it's a phenomenal movie! definitely the most impressively written of the three it's so tightly knit and clever

Movie Survey
I was tagged by @marauders-groupie - thank you so much Lana, you’re the best!
Rules: You can only use a movie once, no repeats.
Favorite movie: Lord of the Rings trilogy - I have to count it as one because there’s no possible way I could choose one of them over the other two. I’ve seen these movies so many times I can recite them from memory. It’s sad. I love them so much. Honourable mentions are Gladiator, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Memento
Movie that makes you remember your childhood: Sharkboy and Lavagirl… my poor father had to put up with rewatching that over and over again with me and my brother. Also Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was a classic
Favorite Tom Hanks movie: probably Catch Me If You Can. I know it’s technically a Leo movie, but it’s just. So good
Movie that makes you cry: I honestly don’t know if I’ve cried at any movie before? I just don’t cry at stuff. Although we watched Grave of the Fireflies in middle school and I do remember that made everyone pretty misty-eyed
Favorite 80′s movie: Dead Poet’s Society… I have Emotions just thinking abt it…
Favorite comedy: I watched Being John Malkovich with my friends last year – not sure if it’s exactly a comedy, but it was a TRIP. Napoleon Dynamite is also a classic, and I also love the Cornetto trilogy a LOT
Favorite sports movie: tbh I don’t watch a lot of sports movies? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is The Blind Side
Favorite courtroom movie: I also… don’t watch many courtroom movies…? I’ve always meant to watch 12 Angry Men, though
Favorite war movie: Schindler’s List was… a Lot for me to handle
Favorite animated movie: Either Lilo and Stitch or The Prince of Egypt... both are Absolutely Iconic
Favorite horror movie: I LOVED Get Out, The Thing, and The Shining
Most overrated movie: I’ve never seen it, so idk if this is a fair judgement, but I’ve never understood any hype around Avatar (the blue people), or why it was the highest grossing film for so long
Favorite gangster movie: The Departed is pretty damn good ngl
Movie you can watch over and over again: Pride and Prejudice (2005). I think at this point it’s just impossible for me to get sick of it
Movie with the best soundtrack: am I allowed to say Baby Driver? Bc there were some BOPS on there
Movie you’re most embarrassed that you love: I am… a big sucker for romcoms… unfortunately… nothing too cheesy, but idk… im just a romantic
Favorite Christmas movie: we usually watch Elf every year and my dad LOSES it every time with the snowball fight scene
Favorite sequel: I honestly really liked The Force Awakens, I thought it was really fun and had a lot of potential that may or may not have been followed through on… also The Dark Knight, if that counts
I’m tagging: @mechaniicreyes, @romansuzume, @is-a-bele, @amazalina, @ravenclawpianist, @sun-breath, and anyone else who wants to do it!!
