i would immediately become a blackened. like im sorry theres always one annoying ass motherfucker in each game like... idk maybe if i was in thh or sdr2's game id be good. but if there was like, a tenko in my game, we'd both be toast because she'd be dead and i would be standing there very conspicuously covered in blood. other than that i think my paranoia would make me solitary but not super killable on account of id just spend all my time holed up in my room. idgaf about the motives i will not be coerced into it. i will just be at the monomono and staying holed up

29. Talent swap time! Which two characters do you think would benefit best from a talent swap?

i dont really know about a talent swap per se but i really want to see what would happen if komaeda had a "proper" talent that wasnt just his luck and how that would impact how he saw himself. would he trash on his own talent no matter what it was bc his self esteem is just THAT low? probably yeah honestly. idk i dont really think about talentswaps much, i like the talents as they are

okay so like. i see what v3 as a whole was going for with the metacommentary on danganronpa as a series. i get it, i really do.

but i think they did it badly.

the characters were super interesting but they were a noticeable downgrade from the ones in the other games. none of them really try to escape save for chapter one, everyone seems kind of reactive in relation to the overarching plot of Why Are We In A Killing Game. plots come out of nowhere like angie's cult thing in chapter 3, like, it felt less like a natural progression of events and more like a "its a new chapter, we gotta have the chapter subplot now!" 4 and 5 are the only 2 that dont have this problem and thats because weirdly enough kokichi is one of the only consistently active characters that is constantly doing something relating to the overarching mystery and trying to utilize his talent to do so (see: shadow leading, taking over the killing game) so of course the two chapters where he's a major player would be the best ones

and im talking about the whole game here because the people who wrote the game also wrote the ending. and if most of the game is clunky and poorly executed then so will the ending be

and i swear to fucking god if anyone goes "uuhhhhhh it was season 53 of COURSE it was bad it was bad on purpose" 1) you cant just handwave any writing critiques with "it was meant to be bad" because the game as a work just falls flat because of it, whether it was a genuine artistic choice or bungled writing and 2) DO NOT. refute my doylist critique with watsonian analysis.

though i heard that the monokubs were included because spikechun wanted a monomi-esque character for v3. and that a lot of time was put into utdp because it was a soft launch for danganronpa s, taking time and budget away from the main game. and i know how executive meddling can TANK a series (see: final space season 1 is genuinely amazing, and the creators had total freedom. season 2 is so muddied and bungled and you can SEE what they were trying to do but ultimately it falls flat, and the network got WAY too involved with s2) so like. i dont think a lot of this is Kodaka's Fault it was probably because of executive meddling. at least thats my guess

also just im sorry i dont know what the fuck v3 is critiquing here. fandom culture, with tsumugi? corporate greed, with team danganronpa doing this to everyone? if some people go "v3 is SO GOOD because it critiques corporate greed destroying artists, tsumugi isnt the fandom, she's the underpaid passionate writer being exploited, people just dont GET IT!!!" and some people go "v3 is SO GOOD because it critiques obsessive fan culture, especially with tsumugi, people either are tsumugi and dont wanna be called out, or they just dont GET IT!!!" then maybe the theme of your game is a little bit fucking muddled

if its Corporate Greed, why is the last panic talk action against the fans of danganronpa, not team dangan themselves. if its actually a super deep and profound look on fiction because shuichi says fictional characters make us feel real emotions and are important, why is the final pta against the fans and refuting their Real Emotions On Fictional Characters and treating them as obsessed lunatics?

Danny is just a kid ya know? Like he is just a little guy. A baby really. 14? Tiny child! Look at him, he needs to be protected. Someone has to help this poor little dude. I mean he forgets to use his own powers to avoid attacks all the time.

Danny uses his invisibility all the time… to avoid being followed. But in a fight? Oopsies hes too busy thinking of funny one liners to realise he could do that.

Intangibility? Give the guy a break. I mean who calls themselves condiment king. Even he was stunned.

He so rarely actually uses his biggest advantage powers that the League doubt he actually has them. He, like any naive child, trusts them and reported fully on his power set. Instead of just asking him to demonstrate his powers they instead start watching him and try to find evidence of his powers.

At least they know duplication was true since they watched him make a copy of himself to go to the bathroom and not miss any of his fav tv show.

Here is why i find it strange that there are some people who seem to think Minrathous specifically is too sanitized:

To be so clear with anyone reading this, i am telling you why I personally do not take issue with there not being *sigh* more slavery in this game.

You don’t see more slaves (other than the ones you explicitly free) because you’re in the poorest part of Minrathous and the slaves, presumably owned by all the altus families, would be living in slave quarters with the altus families in the nicer parts. (Read up on the depiction of slavery debt vs. chattel HERE if you care)

Now that’s the easiest answer. But for anyone making this complaint, that isn’t good enough because we want to see the horror or it Doesn’t Exist. So allow me to continue.

What we learn form Dorian in DAI is that he doesn’t think slavery is wrong because his family ‘always treated their slaves well’. To treat slaves poorly in Minrathous is seen as Bad. It’s a moral responsibility to treat slaves well. Obviously, not everyone abides by this (I’m looking at you, corpses outside if Zara’s bloodbath chamber) but it’s the party line, if you will.

So, no. There aren’t slaves being whipped in the streets. Or…whatever else you might want to see. Because everything that happens in Tevinter, happens behind closed doors. Even blood magic is ‘officially’ frowned upon. Tevinter prides itself on a public stance that often isn’t reflected in actual moral practice. And I could tell you that it feels more indicative of politics as they are in real world now to have the outward stance be very different than the actual beliefs and values/morals held. But this post is about the apparent lack of slavery/racism in Veilguard, so I digress.

I have seen a lot of people bring up up alienages, or the lack-there-of in Minrathous. Which is, in the south, an area where the elves live similiar to ghettos/slums. Alienages were set up by Divine Renata I after the Exalted March against the Dales. They are a direct result of elves being forced into one walled-off part of town and creating a subculture based in-part on Dalish influence/heritage (the tree of the people being an example).

Stay with me.

Tevinter doesn’t have alienages. But Minrathous has Dock Town, which we are told explicitly is the poorest part of Minrathous. And we see that it is the poorest part because there are beggars everywhere and literally shanty towns along the streets where people are living. We are told explicitly by Neve that no one cares about Docktown except her (and the Shadow Dragons). There are demons running rampant, murders, thievery and no one cares because it’s Dock Town. Presumably because the Templars/any other sort of police they may have are a) corrupt and b) who cares about the poors??? They don’t contribute anything to society anyway and we don’t care about them.

In Dock Town most of what we’re seeing are not slaves, you’re right. They’re likely Liberati, freed slave class. Who are graciously allowed to begin a trade or join a Circle. They are not, however, allowed to serve in the military, the government, hold any rank in the imperial chantry. Also in Dock Town: the poorest of the Soperati, who can own property and serve in the military but otherwise have no representation in government or any real rank in the imperial chantry, or in general the ability do any social climbing. So they can never move up, they always stay stagnant, always poor and weak and never ever able to do anything about it.

This is your alienage equivalent, if it’s not clear. You’re in it. No, it isn’t walled off. But it doesn’t need to be walled off or called an alienage to be that part of town.

And before you ask about the tree of life, Tevinter slaves (and therefore the liberati class) are not just elves. They’re humans, dwarves and Qunari also (this is from World of Thedas Vol. I). All of which have different backgrounds, traditions and would not come together to form such a cohesive culture based on their Dalish heritage for reasons i’m sure i don’t have to spell out.

On a final and a bit of a personal note: i live in the southeast US. Bible belt. I grew up in a majority white suburb, and yes, I’m white. So as I said, if you have a different take, you’re entitled to it and maybe my opinion means nothing. But I grew up constantly hearing about the part of town that we don’t go to. Don’t go to that shopping center, its too close to [part of town where the minorities live]. And i tell you this to say that i never heard any of the adults in my life use a slur, but it doesn’t mean they weren’t being racist. And in fact, a lot of then pride themselves on not being racist and fail to see their implicit biases and the systemic racism.

So yeah, i guess to me, the minorities and the poor people being relegated to the part of town no one cares about, where crime and corruption are rampant is racism/classism as i have witnessed it most commonly in real life. It seems odd to me that people missed it or that it seems to not be ‘enough’ for people when it’s the kind of racism that is the most rampant in the present times (at least where i am) even if it’s not as explicit.

Again, i could get into the 40 acres and a mule, post-civil war reconstruction failures that kept black people down (share cropping) and is still keeping them down now and all the ways that minorities having the ‘same rights’ somehow tricks some people into thinking that racism and bigotry doesn’t exist anymore (just because Dock Town isn’t walled off doesn’t mean the people who live there are reasonably free to live elsewhere). But maybe that’s for another post where we talk about how freeing slaves is good, but not nearly enough to actually help marginalized people. (Government reform, which you know…you get to choose the new archon but that is irrelevant and doesn’t mean anything)

*I’d also like to say that i saw a post which referenced Chantry teachings that say kissing elves is like kissing a dog. I don’t know about this. What I do know is that in The Masked Empire There is a scholar out of the university in Orlais who comes out (on the authority and encouragement of Gaspard) and says that to lie with an elf is to lie with an animal because they’re more like rabbits and follow their baser instincts. I can only assume this is to what that post is referring. You may correct me if i am wrong.

So #1 it didn’t come from the chantry, as i remember. And #2 the schism between the Northern and Southern chantries is widely known, so what applies to one may not apply to the other. Very big rift. So it’s not surprising to me that this doesn’t come up, is all I’m saying.

okay FIRST OF ALL i changed his mask a whole bunch bc a. i put no thought into the first one LOL and b. i think this one works better functionally and symbolism wise anyway plus i just like the look of it more hehe :3 i had this idea of like… cuz he’s not really typically a killer but more so a stalker and he just sort of follows people around and watches them from a distance it would be sick if his mask looked like. not TOO unusual from a distance? like if you’re not looking too hard and he’s far away or in the shadows it kinda just looks like a person but with something kind of off… but like you don’t wanna stare at some random dude so you’re probably not gonna think too hard about why his face looks a little funny. and then you see him up close and you’re like “ohhhhh. thats not your face.” PLUS LIKE uncanny valley symbolism cuz slasher looks human but somehow isnt and stuff… idk i thought it was neat 😈😈😈😈 and like freaky androgyny we love to see it. he got his three little eyelashes even when he’s being a freak 🫶🏻

bro does NOT permanently scar. like at all. even his most gruesome deaths have never left a scar that hasn’t eventually gone away, he WILL scar for a while but they never end up being permanent. as with most things about himself he has no idea how this happens

i think i mentioned this in the post with his old ref… but his ginormous pupils reflect light when you take pictures like a cat or raccoon’s would, meaning he has a tapetum lucidum and can see well in the dark! :D this also means he’s constantly confused why the people around him can’t see what he does in the middle of the night like “hey look at that deer. what do you mean you can’t see it? it’s not ‘too dark’??”

he split his tongue by himself because he was bored and thought it would be cool

he has really, really, REALLY intense issues with derealization and depersonalization especially. dissociation too, but since he lost most of his memories and became a proxy he hasn’t really felt “real” or fully connected to the world like… ever. a little part of him is convinced he must just be in a coma or (fully) dead or something, but he tries not to think about that too much.

he’s really good at staring. like. just unblinking, unmoving staring. it lowkey freaks the others out how long he can go without blinking and he does it sometimes just to spook them hehe

he likes to paint! he doesn’t usually let anyone see his stuff because he’s shy about it but he definitely does it whenever he gets the chance

he lowkey forgot what video games were until BEN reintroduced them to him and ever since then he constantly asked him to borrow his handhelds and stuff until BEN got fed up and just got him his own homebrewed ds LMAO

he definitely prefers not to but like.. he absolutely has eaten human flesh before. particularly when he was momentarily crashing with ej (more on them eventually >:3) but he’s also had his fair share of um……. slip ups. when he hadn’t eaten meat for a while

he’s pretty damn soft spoken. like he doesn’t talk much around people he doesn’t know in the first place and will straight up go nonverbal if he’s too overwhelmed or upset, but even with his friends he’s not usually very loud. he’s yelled maybe a small handful of times in his time as a proxy and even most of those were at video games

he LOOOVES the cold. meanwhile the heat literally makes him want to lay on train tracks

he steals literally every cd he sees when he’s out and about. like even if he’s never heard of the artist he doesn’t give a fuck he’s bringing that shit home

speaking of, in the house he shares with toby and kate he lives in the attic :3 bc of course he does. and you’d better BELIEVE he called dibs on it immediately upon discovering it was there
