secondly, im not a tumblr teen. ive been on this website for god knows how long and ive been well versed in queer history. me calling them a pedophile, after a conversation with them resulted in them refusing to admit sexual imagery is not for children, them calling me a bootlicker and several other names, before getting wildly upset and blocking me, had nothing to do with their sexuality and everything to do with the fact that they couldnt tell me sexual imagery is not a thing for minors to consume period end of story. this is AFTER the fact i had been a bit more educated about pride and had ALREADY agreed where i went wrong. now about the sanitization of pride- thats wrong as well. dont get me wrong. but you cant seriously look me in the face and tell me that sexual imagery is not for minors. like- just that statement alone, right? so how is this such a controversy?

ugh okay I guess I’m gonna write A Thing. I’ll get into a proper response to your final questions but first, let’s do some context work.

first thing to make clear is that I know Jux irl, and I also want to make it pretty clear that they and I have pretty similar opinions here, I’m just slightly more likely to put my anger aside to reply to stuff. Do not get it twisted, rhetoric like the kind you were/are using is like, a big red flag for me, it’s the kind of shit reactionaries have been using for eons and like, were I in a less chill mood, I would’ve also likely written you off as a bootlicker troll. Their response was pretty aggressive but not completely misplaced, so I just want to make it clear that like, as another queer dude who is tired of seeing this shit every fucking May for the better part of a decade, I’m also exhausted and pissed off.

As for my claim of teenagerdom, I apologize if that offended, but you have to understand that, generally speaking, the loudest groups having this conversation on the regular are (1) right-wing reactionaries, TERFs, and their ilk trying to stir shit up (see: Operation Pridefall) and (2) young people who don’t have any context for Pride, often haven’t been, and only really have queer politic and history from tumblr and twitter threads featuring reactionary revisionism from the first group. When I see people engage in this conversation, I generally assume they’re in the latter group, as it helps me try to frame my responses in the best faith I can given how tired I am of this shit.

But that aside, sure. Kink isn’t for children. But provided there’s a parent accompanying this hypothetical child at Pride, their job is to explain and provide context for the things they can, and give a solid “you’ll learn more when you’re older” for the things they can’t. The Village People are all each in different kink gear, and as a kid I was told “they like to dress up, and there’s some costumes specifically for adults,” and I was good. I saw bare titties at festivals, smelled weed at concerts, saw bulge at the beach — these are normal human things that happen in the world, and having a responsible adult nearby to explain or provide context for them made them non-issues for me. I don’t think a kid seeing a pup hood is thinking anything more than “oh cool, that dude is dressed up as a dog.” Kids understand fantasy and make-believe. And especially as they age into their teenage years, withholding or sheltering them from knowledge about sex and sexuality can do real damage — hell, we’ve been having that conversation for over a century at least.

(Spring’s Awakening was first published in 1891 and was deeply censored in productions for the better part of a century, due to the content of the work, which is about how sheltering young teens (both straight and queer) from sexual content (and also mental health resources) leads them to try to figure shit out on their own and make catastrophic decisions that they don’t understand the consequences of until it’s too late. Great play, pretty great musical adaptation, wild that we keep rehashing its points like clockwork over a century after publication.)

But I am also of the opinion that Pride isn’t for children, as, while two decades of assimilationist politic would desperately try to argue otherwise, I am queer because I am sexually attracted to, and have sex with, other men. Pride is a response to the criminalization of queer sex acts, and so it is, in turn, a celebration of queer sex acts. So if someone wants to walk around in chaps and a jock, great! If someone wants to wear their pup gear or a harness or a rope tie or a vest, fuck yeah! It’s a space specially carved out for celebrating the queer experience — the original Pride flag (before it was simplified to make it easier to mass produce for profit, which, again, love seeing our culture made into product) had a pink stripe at the very top, specifically representing sexuality. It is, ostensibly, the thing that defines our community (at least the L G and B parts of it) as an outgroup against the mainstream society.

I think that, if you are uncomfortable with kink displays, or you’re uncomfortable with children seeing kink displays, then Pride is not for you or your children! Don’t go! There’s kid-friendly and sanitized versions of Pride in most major cities, do some research into your local/state Stonewall organizations and you can find more about them. But I’m already sick of having actual cops at Pride, I don’t need people who are uncomfortable with displays of sexuality also policing myself or any other queer person in a space they have spent decades carving out for themselves.

A final note — if you don’t understand why a queer person would blow up and completely write off your bullshit after calling them a pedophile, I urge you to do more reading, more listening. I know that in this brave new world of same-sex marriage equality and PrEP access that it’s hard to remember the collective trauma that the community has experienced, but this shit is inflammatory, you’re straight up spewing fightin’ words. The dude wearing a leather harness at Pride isn’t trying to corrupt any youth or fuck any kids, they’re just trying to live their shit, and I’m sorry that you and so many others have somehow decided that that’s an attack on a demographic of people who aren’t the audience for a celebration of sexuality. We’re not fucking pedophiles, and this “think about the kids” nonsense is some Reagan-era bullshit.

Books

Divorce and Remarriage in the Church by David Instone-Brewer. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, no, I’m absolutely not considering this. Friend is going through this and said it should be a general read in the Christian community because it also teaches theology and what questions you ask when reading the Bible, and how not to say things like, “Well, guess you can never get remarried,” to your friend going through divorce because it isn’t true. That prelude being said... I’m still not done yet, but I’m at least 3/4 through and it is blowing my mind almost every chapter and I will be reading this book aloud and posting it to Youtube, as I’ve been doing with other books recently, because it’s THAT important.

A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs. I’m not entirely sure what to think of this book. It definitely made me feel better about the too-many-coincidences-helping-our-heroes-out issues of the previous book. I think I’ll trek with this series a bit longer (she says, having come to the end of the book which cliffhangers off, promising ANOTHER in the works).

Watership Down by Richard Adams. I read this book a few times as a child and then again as highschool required reading (I was mortally offended when classmates referred to it as “the bunny book” as if it was some cute little hoppity hop hop fluff novel). It’s pretty much how I remembered it. Gritty. Puts you in with rabbits and the mindset of the animal (can’t really count higher than four, get to know each other through touch and smell and breathing rate and play, revere stories of tricksters, etc) and is overall a wonderful and absorbing read. I also greatly appreciate the inclusion of a glossary of terms in the back whenever the text doesn’t immediately explain a word. 2/3 through my re-read and it’s a comforting book to go through again, after all these years. My copy doesn’t even have a front cover anymore and the back cover is dogged and all the pages are near-brown and all the swear words are blotted out from my super puritanical phase where I wanted to censor all my books as a teen. It’s a lovely relic of bygone days and a comforting read. Though now I’m irritated at myself for all the blotted out words jarring me out of a good reading flow.

On Deck: Trauma Stewardship by Laura Van Dernoot Lipskey and Connie Burk.

Shows

Watership Down (Netflix). (before re-reading the book) I guess this could be classed as “miniseries” or “very long movie broken into four parts”. Last time I read Watership Down was in high school for assigned reading, though I had already read it as a morbid little kid and loved it. I can’t remember all details, but whoever made this show quite obviously loved the source material. It does similar things as the book, like dumping you into the rabbits’ vocabulary without explaining and allowing you to pick up what things mean as you watch (or hoping you read the book and already understand the words). Nothing rings very false to what I remembered. This is a well done adaptation. It’s a little hard to distinguish most of the rabbits from each other, but stepping back and watching with a general comprehension (instead of getting absolutely stuck on figuring out which rabbit is which) is useful in this case. Overall? Good watch. (revision of opinion post re-reading the book, see above point) So I’m starting to see where the Netflix version took a bit of a left turn. It did a fairly good job, though actually the book didn’t drop us into the terminology as sharply as I thought I remembered. The thing that stands out to me the most is that Netflix brought more females to the front of the story and that does actually bother me to a certain extent, and here’s why: where is the sense in dropping human morality onto an animal STORY? An animal FABLE is a whole different kettle of fish. An animal FABLE is like Animal Farm, where animal characters are intended to stand in for human counterparts to deliver hard truths. An animal STORY is like Watership Down or The Promise of the Wolves or Venus Among the Fishes and all stories that take place WITHIN the animal world as if we, the reader, are experiencing things from the animal point of view entirely. In the book, Watership Down, the female rabbits (does) are looked on mostly as acquisitions to be made and are not very plot relevant beyond that, but this is understandable because, simply, they are animals. This isn’t about human morality, this is about prey mammals figuring out survival, both day to day survival and survival of their warren. To this end, the males (bucks) do most of the planning and fighting and trickstering wherein lies the action of Watership Down. By bringing the does to the forefront, it feels like Netflix was trying to shoehorn in some human morality because saying otherwise would be distasteful to people watching. But. It’s. About. Animals. So this is a bit of a sticking point for me that does bother me. However, overall, I saw nothing that truly gutted the heart of the book and still consider it worth a watch.

Steven Universe: The Recent Upheavals. I don’t know. I love the new fusion designs. I absolutely adored That Scene (got chills when he shouted). But I’m not sure how I feel about a lot of the rest. Very conflicted.

Ditched after one episode list: Dragon Pilot (Netflix), Last Hope (Netflix).

Movies

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion. Okay, I guess? Writing was kind of mediocre, but another one where they were obviously trying with beautiful sets and costumes.

Shrek. It’s been a long time but it was a good rewatch. The gross stuff always gets to me a bit, but the thing is they built it to be totally in character and part of this creature’s fairytale existence which earns it more points. Shrek has always been one of the most loving fairytale deconstruction mockery movies and now I want to rewatch the second one because I remember it being superior in every way to an already wonderful first movie.

The Prince of Egypt. It’s been a long time. I was struck again how beautiful certain songs on that soundtrack are (any of the large chorus songs and the Heaven’s Eyes song especially) and the utter despair of coming to repeated dead ends, but how in spite of that, no. God was always there. I have a million questions about why the dead ends and heart-hardening was necessary in the first place BUT. God was still always there. And the Jews exist to this day. This movie isn’t, of course, completely accurate but it is beautiful and it reminded me of things I needed reminding about.

Games

Life is Strange 2, chapter 1. Conflicted on a couple of points. Character Caricatures don’t sit well with me in general. But it’s beautiful and gripping and I’m looking forward to continuing with chapter 2 soon.

More Alex/You: You and Alex finally have “the talk” about his sobriety problems.

this came out longer than it was supposed to, but enjoy!

Alex shouted out lyrics at the top of his lungs while he drunkenly danced around in the living room of the apartment. You emerged from the bedroom and caught sight of him, wine bottle in hand while stumbling about before dropping it onto the floor. The bottle shattered and he stopped to shout, “Fuck!”

“Alex, what the fuck are you doing?” You said as you gestured to the mess he had made. He looked between you and the bottle before he shrugged.

“Dunno, jus’ singin’,” he slurred out. He stepped over the broken glass and made his way to the fridge, where he pulled out a beer and cracked it open.

“Alex, no,” you frown, walking to him and snatching the beer from his grasp, “no more drinks, clean up your mess.”

“No!” Alex whined, “I don't wanna clean it!”

“Alex, clean your mess.”

“Why?”

“Because if you don't, you'll make Ryland mad.”

“He's already mad at me,” Alex frowned, “Said I'm the worst thing ’s ever happened to 'im.”

“Alex,” you groaned, “I'm sure he didn't mean it, but please just clean up the mess or at least help me clean it up.”

“No, he meant it, and he's right,” Alex got quiet and the music blaring from the speakers made the moment less somber than it actually had become.

“He's not right,” you argued, “he's just an angry dude with problems of his own. He shouldn't be taking that out on you.” You walk over to the speaker and shut it off, sighing at the low buzz of quiet that flooded the apartment.

“But why not? Why not take it out on me?” Alex said.

“Alex, you're worrying me,” You sighed, slumping slightly in place from exhaustion because of the late hour.. “You don't deserve to have someone take their anger out on you like that.”

“But I'm a bad person,” he whispered, voice quivering, “I put people through more trouble than they should be in and I can't even bother to pay Ryland back all the rent I owe him.”

“Alex,” you don't know how to make him feel better honestly, so you stop yourself short before you say something uncalled for..

“I'm a fucking waste of space who makes messes that I can't even fuckin’ fix!” Alex shouted the last word before grabbing the bong off the side table and throwing it to the wall, watching as it shattered.

“Alex, what the fuck!” You screamed at him.

“What?!” He growled, and you jumped. There was an intensity in his look that actually scared you, and he began to step closer, “What? I'm too scary, too loud, need me to quiet down?”

“I need you to calm down,” You said desperately, taking a step back.

“Why calm down? Why do anything, why censor yourself when your entire existence is a fucking joke to people?” Alex spits out a laugh, the sound coming out raw and harsh from his throat. You look over him worriedly, biting your lip.

“Alex, I think you've had enough to drink tonight.”

“I haven't had enough.” He argued, reaching out to take the beer you'd been holding the entire time.

“Alex,” you warned and took another step away from your friend, shoving the bottle behind you, “no.”

“Gimme the beer.” He demanded, reaching out as you held it farther from his reach.

“Alex.”

“Just fuckin’-” he reached harder, and you pulled it back further.

“Alex.”

“Just give the fuckin’-” he reached again, and you snapped.

“Alex, no!” You shouted, and you slammed the can on the ground. Alex jumped back, staring at you in shock.

“I... sorry.” He whispered.

“Go to bed.” You said quietly as you feel the spilled wine from before begin to trace at your feet. That can’t be good for the carpet, you think.

“I'm not a child.” He pouted.

“Did I fucking ask?” You raised your voice, finally fed up with Alex and his actions. “Just go to Ryland’s room and go to bed, please.”

Alex opened his mouth to argue before he  quickly closed it. He shuffled to the bedroom, looking back at you once more before going inside and shutting the door.

You sighed as you looked at the mess that was made. Looks like you were gonna have to clean it by yourself.

…

When Ryland got back home, he caught you cleaning wine and glass off the floor.

“Whoa, what the fuck happened here?” Ryland asked you.

“Alex happened.”

“Of fuckin’ course he did,” Ryland sighed. He walked to the kitchen and grabbed the extra broom before coming over to you, already kneeling next to you on the floor. “Need help?”

“I’d appreciate it, yeah.” He nodded, and you both began to clean in silence. You felt Ryland peering over at you while he swept, nearly sweeping the pile of glass into a wall.

“What are you looking at?” You demanded.

“You’re angrily scrubbing wine (since he broke the wine bottle, I don’t think the beer broke?) off the floor with your hands,” he said, “just wanted to check in because you know… We have a mop.”

You stopped scrubbing and glared at him. “I know that, maybe I like to make things harder for myself.”

Ryland held up his hands in defense. “Alright, don’t get testy,” You sighed and ran your dry hand down your face and through your hair. “What’s up, really?” You stood up from the mess and dropped onto the nearby loveseat, burying your face into the couch cushion and shouting nonsensical words.

“I can’t understand you when your face is in the pillow.”

You lifted your head up and frowned. “Alex is a mess and I’m worried about him.”

“That’s it?” Ryland laughed.

“Yes. He’s got a problem and he’s sad and it’s escalated to actually breaking shit,” you told him.

“Oh. Well,” Ryland sat on the couch opposite you, “What are you gonna do about it?”

“I think I need to talk to him.”

“You think?” You nodded, deciding this once you’ll let Ryland’s sarcastic tone slide.

“I’d arrange an intervention, but I don’t think people care enough about his alcoholism to want to do that.” You said, shooting a glare at Ryland.

“Hey, I care, I just don’t know what to say.” Ryland quickly defended himself, making you sigh..

“If you care, be here when I talk to him.” Ryland tried to argue, but you quickly cut him off. “I think it’d be good for him to hear this coming from the people who he’s closest to, and since we’re his roommates, we’re as close as he’s got.”

Ryland rolled his eyes and leaned back in the chair. “Fine. When you doing this?”

“In the morning. The sooner, the fuckin’ better.” You commented.

“Sounds fair. You think it’ll work?”

“God, I fucking hope so.”

Alex stumbled out of Ryland’s room in the morning, shielding his eyes from the bright sun. He wandered into the kitchen to find both Ryland and you sitting at the table, hands folded in front of yourselves.

“Alex.” You said. He waved awkwardly at the both of you.

“Hey guys,” he said groggily, “how’s your morning hanging?”

“Good, it’s good,” Ryland mumbled. It was quiet besides the sounds of Alex rummaging around to find something for breakfast. Once he settled on plain toast and a glass of day old orange juice, he sat across you both from the table and bit in.

“So what are you guys doing here? You’re never up this early,” Alex sipped from his glass.

“We know, but,” You cut Ryland off.

“Alex, you have a drinking problem.” You said bluntly. Alex stopped mid-sip, peering over the rim at you.

“Not what I was going to say, but that’s as good of a lead in as we’re gonna get.” Ryland splayed his hands out on the table. “Alex, something’s wrong with you and we want to help you.” It’s silent as the older man puts down his glass, his stare on the both of you wide eyed and confused. When he finally speaks up, there’s a crack in his voice.

“But I- I don’t need help,” Alex laughed, his eyebrows creasing.

“No,” you countered, “you do need help. Like, seriously.”

“There’s nothing wrong with me.” Alex said simply, shaking his head as he took another bite out of his breakfast.

“You think that, but you have a drinking problem that’s getting dangerous.” Ryland told him.

Alex scoffed. “Pfft, how?”

“You threw your bong at the wall, as I hear.”

“I always throw things when I’m drunk, that’s why I can’t go back to that mini golf course, remember?” Alex pointed at you both as he said it, hoping to bring back the memory. You did remember Alex throwing a club and then proceeding to knock over the mini windmill in a fit of rage, which caused the indefinite ban. But that wasn’t the focus here.

“Alex, you...you have deeper problems than your excessive drinking that just makes your drinking worse.” You tried to explain.

Alex frowned, lines creasing over his face easily as he shakes his head. “Who are you to say that? My life is just fine the way it is.”

“Sleeping on a fold out bed in your best friend’s shared apartment is fine in your book?” You said flatly.

“It could be worse,” he shrugged, “I could be sleeping in the backroom of a bar again.” He laughed, an empty feel to it.

“See, it’s that,” You pointed, “that right there that makes my point. Last night you cried that Ryland called you the worst thing in his life.” After your comment, Alex is quiet, and Ryland is looking down at his hands.

“So?” Alex mumbled, “I’ve had people say worse things to me.”

“But you shouldn’t just fucking accept that, even if you’ve ‘heard worse’,” you argued, “You shouldn’t have to fuckin’ hear it at all, especially not from Ryland.” You spat, facing Ryland with a scowl.

“What, this isn’t my intervention, it’s his!” Ryland points his hands at Alex.

You narrowed your eyes at him, “I’ll get back to you eventually,” you turned back to Alex and continued to speak, “Alex, we care about you and your health.”

“If you care about me, then stop trying to help me. I’m functioning!”

“Being a functioning alcoholic still makes you a fucking alcoholic!” You slammed your hands on the table and lifted yourself from your seat. Alex and Ryland jumped in their seats. You weren’t usually one to get so worked up, and it honestly surprised the both of them to see you so angry.

“But..” Alex started, but quickly stopped himself.

“You have a problem… I keep saying that because it’s true and you’re not listening to me.” You sat back down in your seat and sighed, leaning back as you ran a hand over your eyes tiredly. “I’m sorry I yelled,” you quickly add.

“I hear you though.” Alex whispered.

“I’m not hoping to make all your problems go away, but I want to help you with getting some therapy at least. Maybe some support groups.” You ramble slightly as you try to get your nerves back in check, playing with your hands. “Get you to talk about it, be honest. You matter, Alex,” you make eye contact with him, hoping your message gets through. “A lot more than you think you do.”

“...No support groups yet,” Alex offered nervously. He paused and drummed his fingers against his now empty glass. “I will agree to therapy though.”

“Cool.” You released the breath you didn’t even realize you’d been holding and sunk further into the chair, not minding how the old wood creaked as you did.

“That went smoother than I expected it to,” Ryland muttered, “didn’t think he’d so easily want to get help.”

“If my drinking is beginning to hurt the ones around me,” Alex spoke up gesturing to you slightly, “I have to start taking the first steps to making sure it doesn’t hurt anyone any further.”

“I’m very proud of you, Alex,” you reached across the table and placed your hand atop his, “not many people do what you decided today. And we’re going to help you, through the whole thing.” Alex beamed.

“I’m proud of you, too, Alex,” Ryland praised, smiling across the table at him.

“Oh fuck, if you guys keep praising me like this, I’m going to start crying.”

“Well there’s no time to cry,” You said, “You’ve got a lot of things to do.” You pat his hand before letting it go, not missing the twitch in his fingers as you did.

“Like what?”

“Well, for starters,” You stood up from the table, walking to the corner of the room and grabbing a broom, “you can finish cleaning up the mess you made last night.”

“Wait, what?” Alex questioned, frowning as you handed the broom to him.

“Yeah, I wasn’t going to be the one to do that. So you and Ryland can bond all over again by cleaning the apartment while I take a well-deserved day off.”

“Excuse me?” Ryland sputtered, “Why do I have to clean?”

“Because I heard him puking in your room last night,” Ryland gasped and shot daggers at Alex, “so it’d make sense that you’d be assisting in that. Also you called Alex the worst thing that’s ever happened to you, so I think it’s fair.”

“And what are you going to do?” Ryland interrogated.

“I’m going to Lorenzo’s place. He’s gonna teach me to play Gauntlet while you two get reacquainted.”

“You had this planned, didn’t you?” Ryland’s eyes narrowed at you as you walked to the front door, grabbing your house keys off the counter.

“No, but I’m sure Lorenzo’s happy to teach me about Gauntlet anytime. Bye!” You swiftly exited the apartment, leaving Alex and Ryland to themselves. You were sure they’d be fine.

La Di Da Everglow: So impactful, i have a bias towards 80s pop themed songs. 80s pop is so overdramatic and self indulgent with its poppy synth and deep dirty bass and la di da delivered on that. It *is* the song i blast at full volume going 75 on the freeway. literally my anthem, like what more can you want from a song. The girls are literally screaming at you for three minutes teling you to fuck the haters and get a bag while looking sexy ITS EVERYTHING. 

Love sick girls BlackPink: for some reason this one got me in the emotions. I cried listening it the first few times. its not often you get a pop release that also fucks with your feelings. last time i cried was feel special. This song is a rollercoaster. from hopelessness, to denial, to heartbreak ,to screaming at the raining sky  WHY DONT YOU LOVE ME like, ahhh plus rose and jisoo have writing credits so maybe its so emotion filled because its a passion project. their first writing credits on a song yay them. rose belting but we were born to be alone really did hurt my feelings ouch 10/10.

Diver yooa: Ok you’ve heard i love 80s pop but what about 70s disco? yes yooa pprovided that for me. I’m very greatful, its powerful like a ballad, funky like a dancetrace, and catchy as a mother f*cker

wannabe Itzy: it doesnt even feel like wannabe came out this year but it did so let me go back in my head to march.the dance break, especially when you’re first seeing it is impactful. Its that heavy bass girl power bop that sustained me through finals week of the winter semester amen. The song really delivers on telling the listener to be unapologetically them. 

Bad girl woo!ah!: Theres so much about the song. I- where do I begin. I like that they take risks with the song, its not the normal pop bop formula thats popular nowadays. its still had a bit of a edm(?) type influence like wooah’s debut but theres also more sonically cohesive or better sounding things in the song as a whole, but they didnt lose their uniqueness either. The rap parts are killer, the dance break is weird and fun, and and the after chorus screams girl power. plus all the wooah girlies are so damn cute how can i not love

Tag Me weeekly: I literally never shut up about this song.I never shut up as soon as i heard it this was all that i talked about. this song IS for main characters. Its girls, its sassy, its retro its what me and the girls needed and weekly provided. 

tiger inside superm: how do i explain why i like tiger inside so much. It feels like an action movie track. But not any action movie track. Its like when the main character realizes their true power under pressure and starts kicking ass or something.

Play Chungha: i had to pick one chungha song, its play. play is love, play is mischief, play is energetic,  play is end of the year spectacle all wrapped in one because chunga doesnt know how to flop. Something about the music in the chorus feels like it contrasts chunghas voice. Plus the influence from other cultures adds that spice. 

revolution: alexa i love you. shes so uwu. and this chorus splash of ice cold water in the face. alexa wants you to get the message shes yelling at me in the chorus “THIS IS A REVOLUTION_ REVOLUTION OF THE MIND” and then of course in alexa fashion theres a ridiculous dance break near the end. Its the talent for me love. 

home YEZI: once again, this song is probably the closest i’ll feel to romantic love. 10 for the vocals, ten for the song, 10 for the MV. 

MORE k/da: Does k/da count as a kpop group because im counting them as a kpop group first listen i wasnt sure during their brief intro but as soon as akalis part cae on i knew that once again a virtual character from a game had managed to become the singular pillar holding up the music industry yet again. the way the music cuts out and akali goes in, goes IN!  AND SHE DRAGGED ME IN WITH HER. I use a 6000pxx5000px with a 4px brush, usually, but I really rarely use it all, mostly it’s just like, corners of the whole thing. I tend to draw a lot of things on the same canvas before switching to a new one - that said, personally I can’t draw properly if I don’t zoom in above 100% (usually I work at 150% or 200%, more for details) so I’m really not the right person to ask this haha

They’re learning together!! They have an online dictionary and follow online courses, so Kirishima kind of looked it up for himself at first - he was signing it as love instead of really like thoug, which made Bakugou indecently flustered so in the end, yes, he was the one to teach him how to properly sign it :D

And nope Kiri didn’t know jsl from before, but mers do have something similar to a sign language (there’s deaf and mute merpeople too, after all) so he recognized it as Bakugou going “I want to talk to you and this is the best way to” - also, he’d never seen a tablet before and Bakugou was showing him an explosion on it to make him understand and instead he went “what is this SORCERY” and got excited about a gif. Good, pure kid. I had no clue how to add that in the comic in a fast way tho so let’s leave it at him being happy they found a possible way to communicate haha

So pretty much at some point in the middle of a meeting Present Mic mentioned how there probably was a traitor between them that kept on feeding the villains infos about UA, and the fandom of course got interested in that!! Who could it be? They started thinking it through and for some reason the theories that ended up being more popular are about it being either Kaminari, Kirishima or Hagakure - I don’t think any of these are true, but if you google search “kaminari traitor theory” or the same with the other two names you should easily find the posts explaining the theories and where they come from, if you’re interested!

ok so i noticed that the words in Sir’s book are actually legible if you pause at the right times so i uh

spent entirely too long reading as much of it as i could and this’s what i found :’) 

there’s one page that just repeats over and over and it. weirdly seems to be the daily punctilio article mrs. poe wrote about the baudelaires?? im guessing they probably used it for a newspaper prop somewhere and just reused the text since they figured no one would be. doing this :’ ) but anyway i transcribed it. weird punctuation/misspellings/etc are copied as it was written

Well when Montgomery was on a snake expedition in the Western Ghats Mountains of Souther India he could hear a odd immature giggle. Citizens can rest easy as the children have found a new guardian Count Omar. Count Omar is a famous actor from the Grand Theatre in The City and has graciously accepted the children into his home. After a grueling few days the children were living with Mr. Poe and Eleanor Poe our amazing and exceedingly distinguished Editor-In-Chief. Mr. Poe announced today that Count Omar is the children's closest living relative and has agreed to help the poor orphaned children by taking them into his lovely, clean and beautiful home. Our investigative photo reporters were able to snap some photos of the children entering Count Omar's home. They look more than thrilled to be able to finally call a new place home again. Veronica, Klyde, and Suzie Baudelaire can res easy now knowing that Count Omar is their closest living relative and is there to take great care of them. Count Omar is a distinguished actor in The City's community and has put on countless plays that he has written, directed, and starred in. Some you may know such as The Most Handsome Man in the World, and its sequel Why, I believe I've Become Even More Handsome! Our sources say that the play will be called The Marvellous Marriage and it sounds very exciting! Hopefully with the children settling into Count Omar's home they can finally start to heal the burn wounds that the great fire left by taking their home and their parents. As reported a few days ago a great fire took place at the Baudelaire mansion burning it down to the ground and taking the lives of Beatrice and Bertrand Baudelaire leaving behind their three children. The Fire Department is still investigating the fire even though they are sure it was nothing more than just a terrible fire leading to a series of unfortunate events for the children. It has been a short time since the Baudelaire's parents tragically perished in a blazing fire that took their lives and also their home. Veronica, Klyde, and Susie still remain orphans. Mr. Poe the husband of the great Eleanor Poe our Editor-In-Chief here at the Daily Punctilio is currently looking after the children till their closest living relative is found for them to live with. The children were seen standing in the ruins of their home, Sifting through ash and rubble looking for belongings they can take with them on their (blocked by subtitles)

It looks like the children are trying to find reminders of their past life and look for photographs to remember their late parents. We were about to speak with the children briefly before they left with Mr. Poe.

To summarize what they said "we miss our parents dearly, and we could not have forseen the unfortunate events that have taken place this afternoon" - Klyde. "

Our mother Beatrice had suggested we go to Briny Beach to enjoy the sunshine as if she knew we shouldn't be in the house. I would never have thought that those would be our last words spoken to each other.

I wish I could have hugged her for just a moment longer before letting go of her." - Veronica. We are not sure if Susie the children's infant sister can totally comprehend the loss she has suffered. She will never know her parents which is a tragedy in its own.

Our hearts break for these poor orphan children. Enduring a loss such as the loss they are currently enduring is simply to hard for one to comprehend. Unless they to have lost their parents and home in a fire that engulfed all their memories and belongings containing such sentimental value, then they can comprehend and sympathize for the Baudelaire children.

Hopefully the children can find their long lost relative and are able to begin healing and start rebuilding a relatively normal life. Although going through such a series of unfortunate events such as these ones they have been subject to so far seems very difficult to be able to continue a normal life. It seems the children have a great many struggles ahead as they begin their new lives alone. The only person who works at the library also owns it and there is a separate area where they live. Only some tourists usually visit the library to see what all the fuss is about but it is indeed just a library. Many find it to difficult to access the library so they simply go to the one in The City.

As the investigation goes so far the VPD and the VFD believe it was a fire that started in the library and the heat the cracked the glass. It is unsure if the owner started the fire or if it was started by an arsonist trying to burn books that hold many clues to many things.

Luckily the owner was able to escape and explained that some one had started the fire. A customer who looked like neither a man nor a woman. This person will be very hard to catch because of the lack of a description to the owner could give. What does a man nor woman look like, that is the question many are posing. The VPD and the VFD also say that cannot really investigate more because the library sank to the bottom of the ocean near which is located near briny beach. The underwater libraries flooding will remain a mystery. Unless a new and easier way to get to the library is invented. Many citizens who live around The City's train tracks are complaining of a loud tooting sound. sounds you hear usually coming from a train such as toot-toot. As you know the trains tooting sounds were taken out last year due to people's complaints that they were annoying.

An exchange between Sir and Ray Hardwood took place days before the Paltryville Fire. Many suspect that the argument the two men had are what caused Ray to act out and torch Paltryville. However due to lack of evidence aka lack of Lucky Smells Lumbermill the Paltryville Fire and Police Department could not pin how the fire was started or who started the fire. After Lucky Smells was burnt to a crisp biscuit Roy left town leaving many in suspicion that it was indeed he who started the fire. Only a few past employees have spoken about the exchange that occurred and the details truly bring to light the events that lead up to the Paltryville Fire. Roy had come to town to take back what he thought was rightfully his Lucky Smells. But as we all know to be true Sir started Lucky Smells from the ground up. Roy believed that it was his families name that started in Paltryville and his father and Sirs father had an idea about using driftwood from the Mortmain Mountains to begin a small lumber mill to help supply lumber to a growing Paltryville.

Roy accused Sirs father of stealing the idea and began building his own lumber mill. When Sir refused to believe Roy and explaining to him that it was his father who began Lucky Smells, and when it came time he took that company from his father and turned it into the empire it is today. After that exchange Sir banned Roy from Lucky Smells and had his men kick Roy out. Roy began acting outrageously pushing employees and swinging logs around and so Sir had no other choice but to call the police and the was the last anyone had seen Roy until the fire.

and the uncensored page, which is what STARTED ALL THIS bc i wanted to know what it said and realized it was visible just long enough that you could potentially see it, is clearly written by sir: 

The Baudelaires were unequivocally responsible for putting out the fire. "We happened to be enjoying a lovely picnic at our favorite picnic spot at the edge of the Finite Forest when we saw the flames", Mr. Baudelaire told representatives of the Official Fire Department once they arrived on the scene. His wife added, "As good citizins, it was our duty to leap into action. Would you care for a madeleine? They're freshly baked." Eyewitnesses claim Mr. Baudelaire repurposed a large cowbell, a hammer, and a ten-foot pole to create a makeshift fire alarm, which he rang to warn the townsfolk to evacuate their homes, while Mrs. Baudelaire re-distributed the Lucky Smells water circulation system to put out the blaze. (Rest assured, I have billed her for the use of the water. It's not like it just falls from the sky!)

As if one day of heroics wasn't enough, the Baudelaires were also responsible for relocating the survivors, and setting them up with "good jobs in the city, where they can raise their families in peace and security, knowing that their homes are protected and non-flammable and that a reliable fire department is always nearby." A lovely sentiment, but I sure hope that my tax dollars aren't paying for that!

Alrighty! Welcome and thank you to Comic Tea Party for hosting this discussion! I am DA-POW!, the creator of JINGKU, and will be participating as well. Feel free to read through the short excerpt above, if you haven't already! Please remember to be kind and respectful of everyone's thoughts. But please don't hold back if you have any burning questions or passions pertaining to JINGKU that you'd like to share! As a starter, I'll go ahead and answer the first two questions here. O w O

So! What has been my favorite scene in the comic so far? I have a number of favorite scenes, but I would say the moments that I've enjoyed drawing the most is the scene where Lee gives Taw his kukaoki. 8^U!!!

And the scene where Lee saves Taw from falling to her death. Q v Olll

These are my favorite scenes because they turned out the closest to how I envisioned them as I drew. And that is always something very satisfying to know when a creator's life is essentially attempting to chase and capture their vision for other's to see. Now who is my favorite character? I have to say, I like each character for different reasons. ; v ; BUT!!! I will share who I enjoy drawing the most-- which is Hur. Since Hur is a character who has a bald cut, if I need to adjust him mid-way through--- there's not a lot of editing I have to do to say... Huatai. Who's hair I almost have to always redraw if I should need to change his position and placement on the page.(edited)

But then again, I also must confess Huatai is very dear to me! He is the only character that was alive before JINGKU's world was molded out from my late teenage years-- meaning he was made before JINGKU existed. He's gone through a lot of changes, but I'm glad that he's found a home in JINGKU. He is very important to the Vavoan afterall. XD I would love to hear what other people's thoughts are on their favorite scene and character from the JINGKU cast. I must confess though!!! As far as I know, Lee is officially the most popular character and if you feel that way-- please tell this silly bean why. (And if not, who's the precious bean you've offered up yer likes to, eh? Confess!) ; V ; When I created Lee, I did not put an inkling of effort to insure his place in anyone's heart and now I'm wondering if my lack of effort has backfired on me. XDDD(edited)

im surprised you find lee's popularity a semi-mystery given your own chosen fave scenes XD lee is my fave but until i answer more questions tomorrow i will be more objective and less subjective about why i think he is probably the most popular in general. and that would be due to 1) of the characters so far his positive traits have probably been the most focused on 2) of the character so far his positive traits are the ones who have had the most impact on the protagonist, Taw 3) of the characters so far, he is the one who continually does nice things without forseeable self motivation, and selflessness is an extremely endearing trait (keep in mind im talking about as he presents himself. maybe he does have selfish reasoning, but its an unknown factor). 4) although he's stoic, his "negative" traits are the least abrasive in their own way due to the fact he gives Taw some more space. whereas the others are somewhat more social aggressive.

so effort aside hes basically been the most positively painted character

actually the fact you claim to have not put effort to get ppl to like him makes him even more endearing because it just means hes angel through and through

XDDDDD But I must clarify (just for my own mental comfort) that I would have loved the scenes I mentioned whether it was Lee saving Taw, Hur, Voo, or simply a monkey. I was just really happy with how they turned out artistically-- more so than the actual fact that it was Lee or even Taw for that matter. ; W ;/ But OMG Rebel... OMG.... shakes head to self What have I done? It seems I played myself and I can't help but laugh at my own silliness.(edited)

Answer 1: One of my favorite scenes is from the first chapter, where Taw says she is like the fence protecting her family. It's difficult for me to explain exactly why it's my favorite, but something about it really resonated with me. (It could be because I'm a wife and mother, idk. Lol) Other than that, I have to say, every scene is meticulously drawn and all the characters are perfect in their own way.

1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it? I find the interaction between Hur and Voo to be my favortie scene. The way they jab each other with insults and nicknames is just hilarious. 2. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor? I am a bit undecided on choosing my favorite character, so I'm going to wait until there is more material for me to examine who I find the most favorable. 3. Will "Taw" be discovered and revealed to a woman and/or not Shu? What do you think will happen should that come about? Who might be the first to discover it? It's quite difficult for me to decide when Taw's secret will finally be discovered, but if that ever happens I think she will be in big trouble. I think the first one to discover Taw's secret will probably be Hur or Voo since they're the ones mostly close to Taw. 4. Do you believe that the Taw clan, especially Mother Mai, will leave the situation as is, or will they intervene to protect "Taw?" Also, do you believe Shu might be discovered wherever he went? If so, what might happen? I think they'll come back to help Taw in the future and I don't think shu will be discovered.(edited)

I love that quote too, and not just because it shows her love for her family. There's something poignant about her being a fence ... she's not one of the animals being protected. She is, and is not, part of the family at the same time.

OMG. O _ O @keii4ii Your wise mind knows no bounds. But yeah!!! Adding on to that, a few readers have talked about the fence being the borderline to what's right and wrong. The pigs being what's right and the wild animal being what's wrong. But as the creator, I didn't intend it that way-- though I won't stop people from discussing it in that sense.(edited)

But it's more so of simply: Protect those inside (and put yourself at risk)? Let others protect you (and put other's at risk)? Or simply protect yourself (and leaves others to their own mechanisms)?(edited)

Answer 2: I struggled for a long time over picking a favorite character. Just like everyone else, I really like Lee, but all of the characters bring unique qualities to the table that make them special and stand out in their own way. That being said, so far Taw is my number one favorite character. She's very strong and selfless when it comes to protecting the people she loves. I like that her character is flawed and that we get to experience her struggles with her. Also, quick superficial sidenote, but Huatai (and his flawless hair) is a hottie and if we were going solely based on looks that man wins hands down.

But on the topic of Voo & Hur, one reader of mine did mention that their interaction was "interesting." XDDD Pertaining to what @Chillin&Livin said, I'm happy to hear someone finds the two funny and entertaining! Some of us are probably not aware since they did pop up later to read JINGKU, but the first few drafts of JINGKU posted online actually had Hur's dialogue censored because I was not really sure on the target audience yet. In the end, I ultimately decided that the work would be best left in the hands of older teens and adults instead of children seeing as the topics that JINGKU will discuss would probably be too dark to share with a young audience either way.(edited)

I've got to agree Huatai's flawless hair is truly something. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Many of my friends have commented about his little twirl, which is essentially the last element that I placed on him before deciding he was ready to take his place in the circle of JINGKU characters.

So the fact that we're asking about the Huatai-- it reminded me that a few readers in the past have asked me: what in the world is everyone's actual names? XDDD I have no idea if any of the future questions in this discussion will poke at this, but I do hope to make plans to reveal some of the cast's real name where applicable in the future. Though, I must say that I make no promises. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

AH!!!! But the topic of the Green dialect! Just as a comparison, I would like to mention that the Green dialect is different in say... American English is to British English or Australian English. Which I have mentioned to @- ̗̀ Mitsu ৫ ̖́- at one point. XDDD Even a standard Northern American dialect compared to a deep Southern American one would be a good comparison. Of course, I must mention that I do lean towards a more British one to represent Huatai just because it would give him a more posh impression. ; v ; Though the thought of a deep Southern American one seems quite awesome too now that I've mentioned it. 8^L Example: Do you have a flashlight? (American English) Do you have a torch? (British English) Don't forget the fact that there is slight difference in stress of certain vowels and consonants in the Green dialect just as American English differs a bit to British English if you still need a comparison.(edited)

1) I'm torn between two scenes so ill just pick both. the first scene i really like is the one with Taw having to get out of bath thing with Hur and Voo. like majority of the time those scenes happen in secretly a girl stories, its really comedic and shenanigan ridden. and while ill love shenanigans, im not a huge fan of the trope because it always feels really forced and logically inconsistent. so i love that in this story taw got out of it no big deal. boundaries were respected and everyone moved on. so i appreciate that scene just for being different and not focusing on it (at least in that specific moment of context). the second scene i really like is the one where lee gives taw his kukaoki and is super patient with taw. it was heartwarming to see the contrast to their arrival cause it shows that rules will be followed and enforced not out of cruelty but because the rules exist and everyone is there for a reason. 2) as i stated Lee be my favorite. i already gave my objective reason why i assume hes the most popular in other spaces. but now my subjective reason. lee hits all the right notes for my favorite guildty pleasure character types. got the grumpy stoicism, the dedication and focus, the immense loyalty, all packed on top of a heart of gold. Lee is just the angel no one deserves. 3) I totally think Taw is gonna get found out. I mean theyre with the Huatai for life. So unless Taw dies a very early death, she's kind of doom. Something is gonna happen eventually that exposes the secret. I'm assuming it's gonna be Lee or Huatai. cause i dont feel Hur or Voo would be understanding enough. Or maybe it's gonna be someone we havent met yet. Maybe that pretty lady who greeted them when they arrived.

4) I think this largely depends on what they know. Like did Taw leave them a note that said "Shu ran away and I'm taking his place?" or was there a note that said "I hate you all I'm running away Shu is best and going to the palace like a good boy." Cause while I might of missed it, that really determines whether they even know to go looking for Taw in the first place. Even if they did know Taw is taking a risk, i'm not sure they'd do anything cause they do have to think of the whole clan. Actually speaking of this, this is why i actually dont view Taw's whole obsession with being the fence as selfless as a lot of others. Cause her actions to try and be the fence, while good intentioned, still have consequences. If she's discovered maybe her whole clan gets punished, for instance. at the very least, ppl are going to miss her im sure and be hurt by her absence. so her actions are not without their downfalls and selfish nuances. not that this is bad, at all, just saying the fence thing makes me side eye a bit sometimes. as for shu, idk. i dont think hes going to be found out unless he wants to be found out. and maybe hell want to be found out. theres no gurantee his relationship will last and like, where else is he gonna go at that point if thinks all go downhill? probably home, cause that is the usual instinct. 5) i think the green dialect might be specific, but i dont have theories as to why because there is much to be seen about the region. i think hes gonna be the best huatai who does all the great things and shows taw why taw should care about the kingdom. i base this on nothing except the huatai is a hottie and that lee trusts him so i feel compelled to trust him. #ShallowReasoningIntensifies

My favort scene is when taw finds out about shu and his boyfriend. i was really shocked-- I didn't think that any hmong story would include a gay couple because its something we shouldn't talk about. So it was daring to me.

Out of everyone we've seen so far, i think I'm leaning towards is mua. He seems like someone really sly and i like that-- sort of like gin from Bleach.

I'm going to agree with RebelVampire. Taw's going to get found out. i don't think she thought this through. I think she should have told mother mai what happened, and then decide on how to approch the problem.

about Shu though. I think he''s an idiot! I don't care much about who he was with, but how could he betray his family? I actually thought shu was okay at first, but then after he did that to taw I was like no.

i binged through Jingku and I was on a rollercoaster. For every scene that shcoked me, I was upset and also excited.

I just wish shu was more sly then this wouldn't have happened.

But I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the scene with Voo and Taw, although I sort of forgot about it in the midst of all the other plot devices I'm juggling. 9v9lll Ah... But I do understand the undercover girl bath scene trope that you speak of. XDDD I do my best to make characters true to their backstory, so every character's reaction to whatever pops up in JINGKU should reflect on them as a person. ; V ; Maybe someday when we get further enough, I'll do little extra installments outside of the canon plot with plot along the lines of the beach episode, the valentines episode, so on and so forth for giggles. (Makes fanfic and fan-comics of my own creations. =v=b) No promises though~~.(edited)

For all the feelings that I didn't invest into Lee... Now thinking it over, I'm sort of happy that the readers feel for him. Although as I mentioned, I never intended for this to happen. I guess it's like Bob Ross says... There's no mistake. Just a happy accident. Y v Y

On the topic of Taw though, I will admit-- as a human being and as myself (my background and circumstances)-- I would have never done what Taw did. OvOlll I don't think I'm that... gutsy? Willing to risk so much or gamble with such high stakes? Essentially, in the terms of the pig, fence, wild animal analogy-- I would be the pig. I probably wouldn't be very promising as a character. But as I always say, I think I would make great bacon. =v=b

BUT OMG. XDDD The lack of faith in Shu from my readers is immense! I can only hope that whatever happens, it will be for the better of everyone's life. OvOlll

I don't really care for lee because he hurt Taw. i don't like the guys that are always talking and don't listen to the girl.

Lee is always assuming everything like he knows it all and it just turns me off. Why dont he think to ask?

But yeah, he is the member thats like doing everything so i understand why people like him.

I also think that because lee is so truthful about everything like from what we know so far like vampire said, he is going to be taken of advantage of easily. taw is kind of different. Like she;s not really a good person, but not really a bad person to the country. From chaptor seven, i think Taw might be the one to do that. I wish the creator told us what taw was thinking though so we know for sure though.

i agree with shrimpchip. Taw seems like a person of action not just all talk. i like that she seems to be pretty careful like she thinks about what the other vavoan people say and then decide on what to do instead of just doing whatever.

For me personally, I think there are a lot of actions Lee commits that is questionable, for example, his initiative to take authority over everyone else in the vavoan. According to Hur in chapter 2 the vavoan are supposed to act as merely puppets who serve the Huatai. if a vavoan member were to create a problem then shouldn't it be in the Huatai's place to solve it, not Lee? And I keep wondering, why does Voo consider Lee's assault on Taw a nice thing? Even Taw wonders the same thing. If what Lee did was nice, what's the norm? I seriously want to know. Voo mentions how close Lee and the Huatai are in chapter 3. This is probably a bit out there, but it just occured to me... what if Lee is a bad guy and plans to over throw the Huatai and to do that he decides to create a close relationship with the Huatai to learn more about the Huatai's plan. And that sole reason is why Lee made Taw his target when Lee meets Taw and later forces Taw to join his schemes to kill the Huatai.

@Chillin&Livin Interesting points but I feel like, and I'm not the creator so I could totally be wrong lmao, people are misreading the situation with Lee. When I read through it the first time, I just assumed there was a hierarchy to the Vavoan. Obviously Huatai is head bitch in charge but when he's not around, who keeps everyone in line? It's Lee. The fact is, most people can't be trusted to do things independently (I feel bad saying this but it's proven to be true) without leadership or guidance. The other characters have a certain closeness between them, but Lee seems to stand out in a way that makes him feel unreachable despite his moments of kindness.

it'd be cool if Lee was a villain, but i don't think it will happen unless the creator pools a 180 on us. if it did happen, I wouldn't be surprised thuogh. Its sort of like a trope where this character is like all cool and good to a group, like lee is to the country but then later they're like just kidding. That's when shit hits the fan. i'm sure all the Lee fans would be heartbroken for real if it did happen though.

But what shrimpchips said, about heirarchy. i don't really think theres an official like level for everyone. I feel like it really is supposed to be the huatai and then theres the vavoan like chillin said. lee is just the kind of person that will do things before anyone asks him to because he feels like it.

I think that if there was someone that had something to offer to taw though and taw feels like its a good deal that she would take it. like I said I don't think Taw would just sit around waiting for something to work out for her situation.

1. My favourite is when Taw is mad about the their big brother Shu taking a whole day to catch the chicken. Because as a reader that was my reaction too. 2. Hur's rough behavior made me like them instantly. I am always a sucker for rough characters with golden hearts. The interaction with Taw was much like a tsundere HHHH You look like this rice ball. HERE EAT THIS BECAUSE YOU MISSED DINNER. HHHHH 3. I'm very much hoping that Taw's secret will go to their grave. I know thats light thinking but I'm really not wanting to see the reveal, what is the punishment?! Who will try to protect Taw?!? Will Taw become valuable enough to keep in the Vavoan? HHHHH 4. I don't really think Mother Mai will do much of the situation, as I think they would just assume that Taw disappeared and Shu went on their way. If Shu's discovered first that is a different story. I hope Taw gets the best life. ;w; 5. Maybe the Huatai is a replacement to the Huatai. MAYBE ITS AN INCEPTION OF AN INCEPTION. That is why Lee is so much favoured, because Lee was probably close to the Huatai before they were even going to be the Huatai. HHHHH I'm a fake Huatai playing the pretend for the real Huatai, so now I have to actually be the Huatai because the real Huatai went MIA. HELP ME OUT LEE. 6. @kongli @shrimpchipsahoy @Chillin&Livin i agree with shrimpchips on the matter of hierarchy. because when theres anything involving large, large groups, theres always a structure of hierarchy. keep in mind also that the huatai is in charge of the whole kingdom basically. so its not just the vavoan under him. theres probably a ton of other branches and people. so while yes, the huatai might be the ultimate leader, that doest mean there arent also ppl in charge directly under him to keep order in various other matters of the kingdom. its kind of like how in an army you have a general at the top but then various other ranks under them who control various army squads and such. those other ranks obviously follow the generals orders, but at the same time they make sure those under them also get those orders fulfilled. now this being said, i do think its debateable on whether lee's position as this secondary leader is official or not. but even if it wasnt official this would be the natural result. someone always has to take charge, because otherwise theres just anarchy. youd wind up with even worse situations then what happened on the bridge cliff thing. instead of just taw falling off the cliff itd probably be like half of the vavoan because thered be no one ordering people around keeping things organized. and as was also pointed out, the huatai cant be there in every situation. so if theres no one in charge, even unofficially, theres going to be problems and will probably lead to the huatai getting offed pretty quickly.

that being said, if lee winds up a villain im okay with this. i will support lee to the end, even if the end is some sort of train derailment into the abyss

6) im getting kind of a sibling relationship? not that i do think theyre siblings, but it kind of feels like lee is the older brother and the huatai is his lazy younger brother who just moved out of home for the first time. i definitely think theres past history here that were going to find out tho. they seem way too super close for them to have just met. as for the dedication, i assume its either that Lee knows something we dont about the Huatai's plans or that Lee is a strong believer in duty. something like that

I came from webtoon and i stayed because i liked the story and characters. im so tired of always having to read character that dont do anything or like don't have a goal. Its like where in the hell are we going? and Taw is a bit different from the girls i always read. She;s kind of like not a good person who always try to save people that she don't know but she's not bad because shes just tyring to survive.

i also stayed because i liked the art. I really like the pictures you put at the beginning of the chapters.

7) I think theres two things going on. first off, i think lee is just genuinely a nice dude. gruff and a stickler for rules, but nice. however, i also think pragmatically speaking its in lee's best interest to make sure taw is up to snuff. because if taw isnt up to snuff, welp, good-bye huatai. so in essence lee's actions may be less nice and more driven by the pragmatic need to have taw not suck at the job. i dont think Lee is gonna give up, but i have a high suspicion it might lead lee to learn that taw is not the taw that was supposed to be sent. or at least theres going to be many lectures. but again, pragmatically not a good idea to leave taw as is. unless theres like...paper pushers in the vavoan. taw can get that nice, comfy desk job in that case.

Answer 3: I think it's inevitable that the truth about Taw will be revealed to some extent. cries I can't imagine it would be easy for a woman to hide her identity long term, especially in consideration of baths/toilet time/that time of the month. I've been thinking a lot about who may be the first to discover it, but there are so many variables involved that I can't pin it down. Although I hope whoever discovers her secret helps her escape or fake her death or something (so she can escape without repercussions), I don't think the odds are in our favor. Lol

Speaking of kukaoki! I think I only mentioned this once (like way back when I posted the first draft of JINGKU on webtoons) but when the name kukaoki is broken down, it's defined as: ku = pair / kao = wheel / ki = spin. As a side note, the Hmong language is tonal (8/7 tones or so), meaning these definitions are conditional depending on the tone used when speaking the word. Kind of like how one kanji, though pronounced the same, can mean different things depending on how you depict the character. So don't try to share these meanings without that little bit of salt to add in^ There were a number of names I thought to call the weapon, but recalled that I shouldn't use hard to pronounce Hmong words for the sake of readers. 9v9lll I hope that my efforts pulled through. sweats(edited)

8) I think Taw is gonna learn, and I think she's also gonna learn that strength has advantage too, what with all the farm work. In all honesty, I don't think Taw is gonna go home. I think the inevitable path for Taw is to learn that there is more than one way to be a fence. so instead of just protecting her little family unit shell learn that by protecting the kingdom she also protects her family. or something like that. 9) It was Lee. /shot In all seriousness, I assume it was a foreign power. I don't get the sense that the kingdom is in the most secure of places, and I think it's a sign that these are troubled times that are gonna involved quite a bit of fighting and securing of power.

Number seven, i don't think lee is going to give up. Hes too stubborn. Number eight, i think taw will learn the kukaoki but she wont be good at it because Yah said that you have to start from when your a kid. I dont know how old Taw is but i think it would be hard for her like when someone learns ballet kind of late. Taw is probably going to try to find a way home but get stuck being with the vavoan for the rest of her lief. i think its going to be like she thought she wanted to go home but after staying with the the vavoan for so long she decides to stay because she likes it there.

for number nine, i think it might be a foreign power like vampire said. I went back to look at the part where they are atacked and i just realized that if huatai didn't get sick he would have been dead because Lee wouldnt' have came to move him from the carriage.

I think that someone in the country betray the country and if they did betray the country they might be working with foreign power.

And for those who are wondering about Hmong clothes... Essentially, there's a number of designs (its fashion afterall ;v;) but the main thing you should always be aware of is that a girl's shirt typically features an extended collar on the back. Hmong male clothes do not (and should not) have this feature.(edited)

O.O Maybe Huatai is secretly a woman. That would be awesome because s/he could be Taw's greatest ally! Other idea is maybe Huatai wears girls clothes to honor someone they lost (like Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, who is actually a man but poses as a woman to honor his late sister.)

Growing up, my family moved around a lot, and I found myself as a transfer student often as a result. (e.g. 1st grade year, I went to 3 different schools) I was also a sickly child and missed school a lot. That combination meant I was often clueless in the class: the material they were covering at a new school was sometimes a little ahead. Or more commonly, I miss 2 days of class and everyone else in the classroom was 2 days ahead of me. Teachers made zero effort to help me catch up. It was all up to me. What I'm trying to say is, I can really relate to Taw being thrown into a situation that she'd never been prepared for, unlike everyone else surrounding her. I'm looking forward to how she deals with all of that. I also hope she can catch a break sometime!

So there are a number of things I'm looking forward to for JINGKU and most of them revolves around revealing plot points. XDDD But depending on how the story of JINGKU goes, I'm kind of looking forward to drawing Taw with longer hair in the story. Q v O GEH. Probably just wishful thinking, but hopefully the opportunity reveals itself at some point. (Worry not. If Taw's hair grows, then the men's hair will grow as well. 8^U!!! Gotta trim dem heads!) 7. Lee probably had a big family before they left their family to serve the Huatai. Perhaps worrying about others is just innately ingrained into him, as well with the Huatai always comes first. So I believe Lee will help out Taw to become an asset to the Huatai. 8. OF COURSE TAW WILL LEARN TO USE THE KUKAOKI. Taw bby must be the very best that there ever was. Finding a way to get back perhaps will happen if Taw really superemly fails at something which I hope doresn't happen.

9. Well the Huatai's king died recently and it really could be an inside job. The Huatai looks super young. I'm not saying that the Huatai isn't prepared considering the Huatai has a 6 PACK OF A GOD, that means the training they did to learn how to become a Huatai is very evident. The dialect that the Huatai has was probably because of a close tutor who has the same dialect as Shu's lover. Because obviously you are going to pick up the way of speaking of the people you surround yourself around. Judging by the Huatai's behavior shown so far... I don't think the Huatai has many close relations other than Lee. (Because Lee is the ultimate Motehr Hen ) This might mean the Huatai has to lug around the Vavoan around lots of places... considering that they already supposed to be the cream of the crop.

10. I'm looking forward to Taw becoming more badarse. Lee showing more Mother Hen traits.... anDDD FIGHT SCENESE. I am a simple person who loves simple thing so maybe more... ABS. Jingku peaked my interest as I really love the opening. "Fence or Pig?" Taws love of family has a really warped dark side at the same time, and will be showcased more and more as the story progressed. How darker will the pure Taw be tainted in the dark. This isn't a fantasy story so there will be very realistic consequences and much heartbreak in the future. Hopefully I'll get to see some nicely timed comedy from the future.

A few peeps that have read the story have spoke about JINGKU as if its a fantasy story with tributes to the Hmong ethnicity. JINGKU is a HISTORICAL FICTION/DRAMA. O v Olll(edited)

I’m terrified of strangers but treat them unfailingly politely. It’s kinda the way your supposed to treat the fey; don’t trust them, but be very nice to them.

I’ve never gotten or recieved a black eye because confrontation scares me and i avoid it At All Costs. 

Bleeding-heart: Do you open up freely with their emotions, or do you bottle it up until you burst? If you do hold it in, what is usually your breaking point?

I’m a big bottle of repressed emotional issues and worry 100%. My bursting point is usually after i’ve been too stressed for a couple of days and get over-tired, bc then i just start crying over something stupid, spill my guts to someone via text, and regret it absolutely the next day.

Butterfly-Weed: What is one thing that always makes you stop and admire, no matter what you were doing prior?

As someone who is both constatly distracted and looking for art ideas that a lot of things! Usually its either the outfits of people in town, or the sunset when im on the bus home of the evening. 

Common Yarrow: Do you easily blend in with the crowd, or do you wear/act so that you are noticeable and stand out?

Thats kinda tricky because i love wearing quirky opshopped clothed and ridiculous shirts, but i also kinda wear them in the hope that people wont bother me too much? I want to look cool, but not Too Cool.

Cornflower: Is there a color you don’t particularly care to wear? Is it because it clashes with your style, appearance, or any other reason outside of simple dislike for said color?

I don’t think theres a colour that i wouldnt wear? I dont wear a lot of green but thats more because i tend to gravitate to either warmer colours or crazy prints.

Creeping Zinnia: Do you listen into other people’s conversations, either idly or purposely? Has there been anything you learned from it? Have you gotten into trouble?

I absolutely do not. I feel so so terrible when i listen in and im so scared that they’ll say something very personal i should never hear. I wear headphones a lot of the time though so its not a huge problem.

Daylily: Do you have any daily routines/habits? Are they ingrained into you as a child or have they been recent additions?

I’m too scatterbrained to have too many daily habits, but the one that has carried over from my childhood is packing my bag the day before. For someone who worries a lot knowing im all ready for uni the next day, and having a vague idea of what i want to wear, is very helpful in helping me calm down before bed. 

Field Pansy: Have you ever gone and flown a kite before? Do you wish to do so if you haven’t?

Yes! There’s a big spare block up on a hill not far from my house, so when i was about 11 maybe(?) me and my neighborhood friends would make kites out of balloon sticks and rubbish bags, then ride our bikes up to the spare block.

Flowering Cabbage: Name one thing you keep, despite it being pointless or purposeless other than sentimental value or you simply cannot throw it away, and state the reason why you hang onto it.

Ummmm? Everything? I’m hopelessly sentimental. I’ve got clothes, books, letters, and dried flowers collected up simply because they remind me of happy times or people i care about.

Garden Impatiens: What causes you to lose patience? How do you react when you lose it?

Generally i have endless patience for others, but for myself? I’m constantly frustrated by my inability to concentrate for a long time, and when i’m trying to draw and it just Wont Work, usually that just leads to me just stewing in my annoyance for a few hours. 

Gooseneck Loosestrife: Is there anything strange or unusual you can do, or have noticed happening around you without an identifiable cause?

There’s nothing unsual that i can can do, although sometimes i wish that were true. Although i must say that art school has a ton of weird things i wish i could explain; like when you hear voices in a computer lab but you go in and its empty. Or the people who i swear i’ve never met before who stand outside the classrooms until you use your swipcard to let them in. 

Hosta: Do you enjoy the time out in the sun, or do you relax in the shade whenever you get the chance to do so?

I love the sun in every season except for summer, my pale pale skin cannot handle it at all so i stick to the shadows like a vampire. 

Ivy Geranium: Do you have any pets? If so, how are they doing?

I have a dog called Scruffy, who is cute but constantly a mess, and seven chickens all named after Doctor Who characters!

Japanese Bloodgrass: When was the last time you drew blood, either from yourself or from another? What was the reason?

I might have sliced my ankle shaving the other week because i was bopping along to the music i had playing and slipped...

Lady’s Mantle: What is one outfit you remember your mother/guardian wearing when you were a child?

My mum used to wear these striped tshirt dresses around the house all through summer, i actually got a few of these handed down to me!

Lambs Ears: Do you remember how old you were when the last time someone tried to censor their speech around you?

About 20mins ago... My mum was about to swear and just gave me a look before rephrasing hahah

Lavender: Is there a particular scent you are fond of? Do you smell this scent often or rarely?

I love lavender and rosemary in summer because it reminds me of the veggie patch that i planted near my back door a few years ago, but in winte hot chocolate and cinnamon are the best for feeling cozy.

Million Gold: How much money do you make, if any? How much money do you have currently?

I’m currently unemployed while i move out of home and settle in, but at the moment i’m housesitting so i think i get about $200 for the month, and then i dogsit again for someone else next month. Other than that my only income is from commissions..

Moss Phlox: Have there been any new friends you have made? What do you want to know about them the most?

Last saturday was my friend Katie’s birthday picnic and i met some lovely people there who i really hope i can stay in contact with.

Nasturium: Have you ever been the one to be told a secret? Did you keep it or did you share it with someone else? Was the secret worth being kept?

It’s not often people tell me secrets, but if they do tell me one i always keep it. I know how gross it feels to have someone betray your trust and i wouldnt do that deliberately to anyone. 

Ornamental Purslane: Do you wear any jewelry? Which ones are your favorites? Do you favor certain metals/gems/styles?

I don’t usually wear a lot of jewlery because i forget to change my earrings, and bracelets get in the way when im drawings, i used to wear a necklace all the time though. It was a teardrop shaped blue-goldstone on a silver chain, but my sister pulled it off when she was mad and it snapped. 

Rose Campion: If you had to fight, which one person would you chose to fight at your side? Would you pick them based on skill, on trust, or both?

I don’t know anyone personally who’d be any good in a fight so im going to have to say uhhhhhhh... either The Rock lmao bc he’d just punch danger in the face, or Ship ( @glumshoe ) because i just think he’d be prepared for even the weirdest stuff we could encounter.

Salvia-May-Night: What your habits/rituals you do when preparing for bed? How long do you usually sleep for?

The classic shower, facewash, text people who make me happy, and reluctantly set an alarm so i’ll get to class on time. I usually sleep fine all night no matter how early/late i go to bed, but i always wake up at 8am and have to check my phone to see if im late for anything.

Snapdragon: What sort of things would you hoard, if given the chance? Would you?

So so many things, its a good thing i dont have the chance. Books? Art supplies? Cool dresses? Pot plants? 

Snow-In-Summer: Would you rather have winter or summer? What are the benefits or reason to your preferred season over the other?

Autumn all the way. I love the coloured leaves and windy days, and its the perfect inbetween weather thats not too hot or cold.

Thread-leaf Tickseed: Are you an insect-magnet when you go outside, or do you insects generally leave you alone?

If im at home? for sure, i get a lot of beetles bothering me. But if im in the park at uni not so much for some reason.

99% of highschool to be honest, just a lot of Not Fun stuff.

Wheat Cockscomb: Name one thing you could do that you wished you could do, but cant?

Speak literally any language, i feel like it would open a lot of travel option up for me

Yellow Cosmos: What is your favorite constellation? Why? 

Cassiopeia! I just thought it was a neat myth, and also i used that as a name for a character in a grade 8 story story lmao.
