a redraw meme! I'm a little mad at myself for not doing this for a few years (I've done a few other redraws in the meantime, but...it wouldve been cool to have a bunch of years in a row! TwT)

2007 was the earliest made on gimp, a touchpad and NO pressure (obvious with the THICK CHUNKY LINES. im 90% sure I did lineart, colored over them, then lined over them again all on 1 layer...) plus the pattern fills gimp had (the stripes and rainbows, plus the repeating space background that needed a desperate scale-up...)

2015 might be the most obviously tmm inspired style wise ( and I think...this character WAS a tmm oc, actually, so this tracks. her name was star hoshiko (yes. star star.) and she was infused with star power instead of an animal. whatever that means. in my defense I was Ten 👍) and was when I was still using sai!!

2016&17 were me trying to sort of push into semi-realism, the smaller eyes, the more realistic skirt in the '16 version and more realistic hair in the '17 version, and also the first ones done in clip studio which is still my mvp program.

2018 was the furthest from the original, me REALLY pushing orangey yellows for some reason (the darker oranges let the yellow glowy parts stand out more was probably my logic at the time?) it's also funny to see that I went back to a more cartoony/anime style between 2017! the eyes got bigger again, the hair more stylized (esp with the shading/highlighting!) yet the clothes got more detailed....

2024- this time around I wanted to try and capture elements of the original design, since it seemed I was drifting further and further away from it... those very bright lemony yellows that scare me to work with sometimes, the original stripes, that BAD dark yellow for the base of the dress... I know a lot of people will prefer the semi-realism of the earlier years but I feel like the very anime style is more FUN. and I feel a lot more confident in my posing, expressions, and I just. focus more on having fun than making her pretty. that being said I did try to add little details from the previous years designs :3 doing redraws is always so nice to reflect on style and improvement!! I totally recommend doing one if you want to, a blank version is here!

also for funsies, heres how gross the flats look. man i HATE that weird base dress shade T_T u can tell I did shift it to be SLIGHTLY warmer, just a bit....the cool-toned shading pushes it back to the lemony again tho, lol

just got the notification that my base is officially in transit to the USA, so im gonna discuss my plans for him rq :]

so basically, all my fursonas have historically been feline (once i got over my horse art phase. i was never really connected to my horse sona anyways). i WOULD have gotten a feline headbase, but the problem with that is very few makers specifically sell a BOBCAT base, it's usually a canadian lynx or domestic cat or lion or something. cool, but i love focusing on small details in species differences so it would bug me forever if i put my bobcat fursona on a canadian lynx base. the other issue is that if i DID make a fursuit for my bobcat sona, i would 100% want a realistic base, since her cartoony design changes so often. plenty of makers sell realistic 3d printed or resin bases, however i am NOT confident in my ability to transfer a realistic design onto a base myself (especially since most realism fursuits involve airbrushing. i dont think i could do that well in an ideal environment, much less my 115 square foot bedroom which is my only workspace). i just dont feel i would be able to do her justice... and i wouldnt really want a toony styled head for my actual fursona.

and making a base myself isn't an option because 1. i cant even sculpt clay symmetrically, it'd drive me crazy if i tried it and 2. aforementioned tiny apartment problems. im not dealing with foam going everywhere... OR learning how to 3d model and print or resin pour or whatever else people use to make fursuits.

so i was looking through makers just for funsies and then i found the opossum base by ligris cybernetics / ligrisprints. and idk why but every ounce of my impulsive body decided "YES. OPOSSUM FURSUIT. NOW." ive never even had an opossum fursona before so i have no idea why i was suddenly so sure about it. but i was! so i decided to just make a new character specifically for this project.

i decided on the name silas (at the URL implies) and i designed a quick character on the fly, based entirely off of photos of real opossums instead of already having an idea. this was interesting for me, since i didnt realize how common the white spots on opossum ears are? i always thought they were only black, but most photos i found showed a little bit of pink/white so i added it to the design

(quick sketch, drawn over the sale image on ligris cybernetics' website. i also loosely based this off of the stylization of my one other opossum character's design. the black bits under the eyes are going to be eyelashes, cut out of felt. the grey will PROBABLY be fur markings, but i might change that to black felt too)

opossums are also fairly easy to design, since they are typically recognizable with only two fur colors (white and grey), and their faces are usually mostly white. it'll be easier for me if i only have to buy two fur colors.

another thing i'm planning on is having handpaws- this will be easy since opossums always have naked fingers... so i'm planning on just buying a pair of fingerless gloves and adding fur to the glove part and leaving my fingers out. will be much easier to wear too

one thing im unsure of is how to fur a moving jaw... ill need to look up some tutorials for this. because i think if i dont add at least a little fur around the hinge, the mouth will look way too wide...

another small issue is that this maker tells tpu ears for basically any species EXCEPT opossums. so my plan is to buy some fosshape plastic and make ears out of that? ill also add minky fur OR felt to them to add the color patterns. i havent decided between the two yet, but i think painting the ears would look strange? even if it's technically more accurate for the real animal.

i also got some fur color swatches a few weeks ago. getting swatches from fursuitsupplies, i tried out baby pink monster, silver lux fox, super short white, silver beaver, and silver lux shag. i like the color of the silver lux fox best, but the texture of the lux shag seems better for an opossum character, so i'm unsure. the beaver feels nice but is too short for what i want the longer bits of fur to be. the super short is nice, but i will still probably get the fur all in one length and just shave it. the monster fur feels gross to touch so i'm definitely not using that. i already know what minky fabric is like so i didn't bother getting samples for that (but i probably will order samples when i decide concretely on what fur to get once the base comes in, just to be sure of the color before i spend money on it).

i'm thinking of covering the nose of the base with pink minky OR pink felt, but i'm not sure if that would work with the base, so i'll decide that once i actually get my hands on it. otherwise, i will be painting it. i also think i'm gonna make a tongue with minky fabric

tail will also be a thing. since opossum tails are prehensile, i want to make it posable... i thought about using plastic ball joints / doll spines, but i know from my longfurby adventures that those are kind of heavy, so i think i will use wire instead.

not gonna bother with a bodysuit, those sound hellish to walk around in. i'm just gonna wear long sleeves and long pants

another thing i an excited / nervous about is adding hair... i want silas to have hair. SPECIFICALLY revenge era gerard way hair

and i know a lot of fursuit makers create hair by putting together pulled-out yarn OR brushing out fur both ways... but i don't like how that looks. since if were meant to believe that a plush in the case of a fursuit tail is flesh, and fur is their actual skin/fur... then it's just like... amorphous globosus... or a gigantic skin tag / tumor... TO ME... many fursuits make this look amazing don't get me wrong but i just couldnt get it out of my head if it was on my own suit. so i decided that i'm going to try and weft the hair, like in this tutorial? https://www.tiktok.com/@chaoticreations/video/7334668616350092577 (sorry for tiktok link, i know this creator uploads to youtube but i couldn't find the short) and this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo4FCmT1DP8 i'm thinking that depending on how i'm able to fur the head, i might be able to make a kind of wig thing that magnets on? i don't want to add the hair directly onto the head in case it looks like shit and i get tired of it, so i want it easily removable. might use velcro instead... also want it really long in the back.

i also got the eye mesh pre-installed on the head by the maker. which will be easy for me if i like it... however i DID request slit pupils and i'm second guessing that decision right now. i'm also unsure if i shouldve made them green instead of grey... but i guess i'll see it once it arrives :]

i also was JUST barely in the sizing for a "small" size head according to this maker, but just to be safe i ordered a "medium" size head instead. if it's to big (which it probably will be), i'm going to add foam inside, which will probably make it more comfortable anyways. iirc you can also use foam to hide the hinges in moving jaws? so i can just use the foam for that too. not sure yet.

and i already have sandpaper and stuff for sanding down the 3d print. just gotta wait for it to arrive... probably a month since it's gonna go from poland to the usa... if it gets lost in shipping i WILL cry (since mail people love to just not deliver to my apartment complex. because apartments are haaaaaaaard to deliver to (even though all the doors are easily accessible from the street with no key necessary)...)

ok yea i do agree the models really arent that Good and like they do look weird a lot of the time and sometimes fuckin scary (tho there is at least like three examples i can think of where theyre like supposed to look unsettling and those are GREAT bc they rlly do) but i mean like the times shit looks kinda off and like the little oddities and sorta unpolished shit is like WHY I LIKE THE MODELS ACRUALLY DJDHDHD sometimes they are just admittedly shit looking in a way i like actually dont ironically like sjdhs but its like charming to me literally.. its kinda similar style wise to punch out wii and thats not like the best comparison bc that game is SO much more complicated animation wise but i think the style and like the expressiveness are there.. like idk i just like that like. stylized 3d cartoonyish style that not a whole lot of games have i dont think i didn't mean for this part to be that long oops

i just think like. the Not Perfectness of it kinda just makes it more like fun and memorable in a way.. like that part in the jazz album like halfway or so through fragrance if dark coffee where the saxophone starts again back at the beginning of the melody and you hear like the Grit yknow the crunchiness. thats like my favorite part of that whole thing tbh so like That's what im talking abt is the graphical GRIT do u get me

but also. i think edgeworths model most of the time looks really good actually AHDBSHDHSSBSH im not with u there im sorryyyyyyy i think like unironically they did like rlly good on him most of the time

and also in general i do think like some of the sprites or whatever look actually Unironically Good... like some of its ironic love some genuine yknow like the fact that 'no its not perfect' actually makes it easier to enjoy does any of that make sense at all

see i dislike the 3D models for those exact same reasons tbh. i do not think the models are stylized nearly enough to justify the transition to 3D and they’re just WAYYYY too far into the uncanny valley for me to be able to like them in any capacity. though i am very hypersensitive to almost-human-looking-but-not-quite stuff and have been since i was little so maybe that’s just me. i could understand liking if they were either a bit more polished or at least more stylized but for me it’s just Unsettling mostly.

to be fair i haven’t played the games they’re from yet so maybe they look better in context but from the screenshots/clips i’ve seen, i just really Hate how they look and move. it looks like they tried to mimic the sprites but a lot of the limited animations look weird in 3D. part of my dislike of edgeworth’s in particular might be my attachment to the investigations sprites of him because i think those look the best to me personally. i get liking stuff that’s not perfect BECAUSE it’s not perfect for sure, but these are just a little too far from what i’m used to and what i enjoy looking at for me to like them in any large capacity ghdkgdjf

Special FEature: “GOO”gle!!

Hello! Mod carolella here. today i decided to goto google, the foremost Image Aggregator online, to look at pictures of goodra. this allows me to get a “general idea” of what the wider populace believes about goodra, how they see her, et cetera. the results were very interesting, and conclusive! let’s start out.

here is the first screen-capture. pretty standard stuff!! unfortunately google did not include a gender category in the overview of goodra’s stats. im not sure why this is. probably they decided it was not necessary, and assumed (rightly) that most normal people who are not fascists or sex perverts (the two groups that demographically support “male goodra” most vehemently) would immediately understand that goodra is an all-female species, due to how feminine she is. the second optiojn is that certain lobbyist groups have CENSORED the google filters to make goodra “gender-ambiguous” (i dont know how to spell the weird gender words. androganis?), but i realize that that is one of my more “out there” theories so i will let it pass. anyway, we can also notice in the “People also search for” tab some other interesting pokemon, including goodra’s Previous Evolutions, another fellow dragon pokemon Noivern, Hawlucha (? i dont get this one. maybe it is a competitive thing) and florges, another exclusively female pokemon. interesting!

here is another screen shot, from the “Google Images” option which i will now begin to talk about. you can see right off the bat “female” is the most searched word that is paired with goodra!! it is so obvious to everyone. for some reason “male” is the second most common one, which i believe is searched so often because people become confused and incredulous when a troll says that male goodra exists, so they go to google to find out if it is true, fortunaely, google image searching male goodra only brings up yet more images of demonstrably and visibly female goo dragons! take that! unfortunately, there are also some “Relics” of troll campaigns against previous female goodra advocates, which makes me sad. however, we must know our own history in order to move forward stronger than ever. anyway, the other commonly searched terms are the names of female characters and other feminine things, such as maids, or baby’s. no surprises there.

let’s get into the images! here is a piece of official art. wow! i was sooo impressed!!the official pokemon artist created a masterpiece here. goodra’s femininity is so strong that even the most generic images of her jump right off of the page!! notice the large feminine hips and thighs, and the antennae, which are Stylized into that  most female of hair styles, “Twin-Tails,” which only girls and women can have. amazing! the ammount of care put into these was truly astounding, down to the cute little curls and kind, motherly smile upon her face.

here we get into the “fan-artistry” territory. and each one of these is even more feminine than the official art! from the small girlish bow atop her brow in the first one to the exaggerated curves of the second one, each piece makes it more and more clear that no normal self-respecting, artist with even half of a brain could ever think of goodra as anything but female!! it’s just so obvious. everyone despises male goodra sommuch that they cant’ bring themselves to draw pictures of it. plus, since references of male goodra do not exist due to male goodra not existig in the Games, Art, or Anime, all graven images of ““““male”“““ goodra are INVALID becuase there is NO WAY that an arstist could even KNOW what a male goodra could look like because they ARENT REAL, IDIOTS!!! and not canon either. no one cares about them and if you showed a random person on the street an image of a so-called male goodra they would slap you on the face and throw it on the ground and spit on it until you couldnt tell what it is anymore. everyone normal hates male goodra soooooo much!!!!! its so obvious. also i dont know if you can tell because i Screen-Cropped the images kind of small but in the third pic goodra’s eyes are very feminine and they have eyelashes (female)

last one isn’t too relevant, just something that gave me a little chuckle (: what a silly picture! she is so cute and enjoying herself

Okay so you've been talking a lot about the abilities/playstyles of the guys in the Overwatch AU, but what about their appearances? I know their main skins/appearances are their normal outfits but OWesque, but what about their bodies? Does Jeremy have 1 prosthetic arn or two? Does anybody else have prosthetics? Matt the only omnic? Is Jacks outfit based on her old outfit (the floral print shirt+shorts) or something else. Which alt outfits would be skins?

Lmao sorry for the really long rambly ask I just send, it's just that I don't really follow Overwatch myself but I love the AU you're making and I might scribble up something later (although my internet is super dead so I can't really do any research to make sure it's Overwatchy enough).

geoff:

wears his suit & bowtie and dumb white shoes. his tattoos are more stylized to fit the world. rare skins are red, blue, green, and purple versions of the suit. epic skin is inverted: black shirt, white suit and tie, black shoes. other epic skin is his biker gang outfit from the recent videos. his legendary skins are two colors of halo-esque armor (one green, one orange), and two variations of his bard tiefling from h&h.

jack: 

floral shirt and blue/white stripe shorts as common skin. rare skins are red, blue, purple, and orange (basic) recolors. epic skins are her sweet steampunk/aviator outfit from a while ago and her new biker outfit. legendary skins are two different designs of the biker dude from jack’s minecraft skin, and im not sure about what the other legendary skins should be yet.

i think jack has two robotic arms. im still designing her abilities and stuff, but i’m liking the idea of healing cybernetics. possibly an ability to heal the nearest ally to full health instantly, similar to how sombra hacks enemies in style? 

ryan:

gta outfit, but with glowing facepaint under his mask. his mask is more stylized, too, and the white lines on his jacket glow as well. rare skins are pink, green, purple, and red replacing the blue on his jacket and accents, as well as the color of his facepaint. has knives and shotgun shell accents. epic skins are his DbD outfit (the sleeveless shirt, chain, and wooden mask) and professor port outfit. legendary skins are variations of mad king and im not too sure on the other ones yet.

he has lots of cybernetic enhancements too, probably both legs as robotic. He’s got skull motifs on all his stuff, too. 

michael:

gta outfit, glasses on common skin. rare are recolors of jacket to red, navy, gray, and cream. epic skins are midnight (black jacket, black jeans, sunglasses) and pink. legendary skins are two variations of his minecraft character (bear skin and stuff), one where he looks like Sun, and one that looks like his fairy tale character. 

i think he might have robo stuff too? i love robo stuff so maybe im biased lmao. 

gavin:

typical gta outfit. rare skins are rose gold, emerald, silver, and sapphire. epic skins are golden boy (gold shirt?? hell yea) and Slow Mo Guy. Legendary skins are two variations of minecraft character, Vav, and Scarlet.

jeremy:

i fucking hate him. fuck you jeremy. fuck rimmy tim. his common outfit is like the original outfit he wore in gta, with the gray. rare skins are AH green, blue, red, and purple. epic skins are STUPID RIMMY TIM and STUPIDER AND MORE RIDICULOUS RIMMY TIM. because fuck you jeremy. legendary skins are variations of minecraft skin and probably a musician theme.

he’s got two robot arms. 

im not sure on the rest of them yet tho.

matt’s the only omnic as of right now, but that could change later. i havent done too much with the rest of support room yet, other than some stuff for steffie and matt. i still need to figure out weapons and abilities for the main crew. when i’ve got all that done, i’ll put an in-depth post about it all up and then work on support room. 

some aspects of their appearances are based on their abilities, which makes it fairly difficult without having abilities fleshed out entirely. i’m working on it though!!
