history

roxanne voice: i was born in an iconic family because it was my destiny to be iconic! but --- in all honesty --- she is right. roxanne is born to george & angelina one hot summer morning, waking up the whole damn hospital with her crying and huge lungs. she has a brother --- fred, who’s officially her half brother, but that’s not something that makes him anything less than her brother. and then there’s heaps of cousins, almost too many of them, and uncles and aunts and other people to call family, and from day one, it’s all good.

roxanne was a chaotic kid, growing up. a cheerful and energetic and exciting one, but a chaotic one. dirty walls and destruction followed her wherever she went. a bit of a hurricane of a girl, even then. roxanne discovered her love for quidditch at a young age, too, and how couldn’t she? it was in her blood and all around her and there was something bloody magical about flying.

a love for people and laughter and loving people was also discovered. roxanne grew up in a warm environment and had plenty of reasons to love the people she loved, even if she needed none. there was, of course, tragedy in her blood too, an awareness that there’s horrible things in this world --- an awareness that she buried as soon as she was able to.

upon arrival at hogwarts, the hat took a while to decide between gryffindor and ravenclaw but went with the latter, in the end. was roxanne disappointed? a bit, maybe. she would have liked to be sorted into the same house as her parents and brother and a lot of her family but the hat had made some solid points and heck, she wouldnt be roxanne if she looked at ravenclaw as a challenge.

was eventually sorted in ravenclaw because her mind, in the end, is her motivator. she might be a very physically active and present person, but she thinks. a lot. about everything. ( with an exception for moments where she acts on impulse. ) roxanne is a very bright individual, to be honest --- she’s able to be booksmart and she likes learning. she likes challenging herself. above all, she just has a Very open mind and is always looking to broaden it.

is a whirlwind. roxanne joined and dropped clubs like no other, switched favourite subject every month, delved into odd sections of the library to become an expert on rare subjects ... it was a lot. her grades suffered under it, too --- roxanne might be a loyal person, but she’s damn flighty. there were, of course, passions that she stuck with. quidditch, of course, but also justice. roxanne, as a queer woman of colour, has always felt very passionately for human rights issues and knows shit about it too. always down for a debate over lunch. getting on the quidditch team was one of the best days of her damn life. getting the quidditch badge later on was an even better day. roxanne loves the sport so much, wants to go pro once she’s graduated, is crazy competitive. she’s a gay jock. another cliché character by mar learned eventually how to focus and keep her grades up, but she does have trouble motivating herself for things that dont interest her. she’s just not an academic. she likes learning, loves it actually --- but hates the way she has to do it at school. hates it. she’s still working hard to get good grades, of course, because she gets that that’s part of life but she just really... wishes it wasnt. [ death, murder tw so life was going pretty good and then her uncle was murdered and everything went to shit like that. and--- here’s roxanne’s question: how in the living hell do you deal with that? she doesn’t know, that’s for sure. she knows that she’s angry. that she’s absolutely livid and not sure what to do with the grief in her chest because damn it, that’s not her thing, not at all. she’s sickened with worry. she mostly is enraged at the world and that this is happening and that people can be like this. end of tw ]

so joining the DA was something roxanne didn’t even think about. she just did it. her studies, once again, have taken a backseat while she pushes all her energy into the DA and the team, as that functions as something ... as close as therapeutic as she can get, i suppose. leading her team, searching that snitch, hoping to win, win, win --- all things that in the grand scheme of things dont matter but do make it easier to deal.

roxanne ... she’s a lot. she’s a fucking lot. she’s a mess.

personality & rambling

roxanne does NOTHING half heartedly; she either commits fully or doesn’t do something at all. she doesn’t do half-assing, doesn’t believe in it — this got her in a fair amount of trouble at hogwarts (handing in 10/10 homework or ,,, not doing it or barely doing it) and she knows it’s a bad attitude to have, deep down. not that she’s admitted that to herself yet, though. things have been put in perspective now, though. it’s clear that there’s no room for just doing what she wants to do and what she feels like, so she’s ... improving ( and yet completely abandoning her studies lmao )

when roxanne is passionate about something, she goes on about it for a long time. loves ranting about topics that drive her, is very vocal of her views and thoughts and hardly shuts up about it. can be condescending, at times; roxanne believes she’s always right, has little humility to her — she often doesn’t try to put herself in other people’s shoes, thinks that anyone who disagrees is simply wrong. it’s a thinking pattern she’s trying to shake, but alas; it’s easier said than done.

this is also a way for her to cope with her insecurities, tbh; she puts others down in her head so she can lift herself up. unhealthy!!! yikes! it’s something she’s pretty unaware of.

i mean, roxanne is, deep down, very fucking insecure. she has this surname that’s got a bit of fame to it and she has such high ideals for everyone around her including herself. especially for herself. her confidence is not completely feigned, i think part of it is definitely real, but part of it is definitely a mask

roxanne LOVES music. she’s into everything that either is a jam, old classic rock or has a damn good message. she’s v passionate abt it. her spotify? gold. she’s also a good singer! this video is literally roxanne im sorry aisha dee move over! honestly if she had mroe time she would try and get into music bc she would love that but yeno quidditch is the name of the game (someone show her hsm and show her that u can do both)

she’s so competitive someone please stop her from fighting everyone over quidditch

uh she’s just very... much. she’s outgoing and loud and dramatic and her emotions are like! all over the place! and change very easily! she thinks she’s a lot herself too tbh she’s constantly exhausted from herself which i think is valid and relatable on a personal lvl for me.

friendos roxanne loves ppl and loving ppl so let’s go and have some FRIENDS up in this building. couldve met through family things, in the library, on the pitch, in dueling club, in any other club that roxanne was in for a short amount of time, etc etc etc. roxanne is fairly easy to place at hogwarts bc she’s everywhere

quidditch competition just give me all the plots if you have a fellow quidditch pal because roxanne is ready to fight to the death for that cup!!

dumbledore’s army bros people that roxanne got to know better through the da would be v interesting because it’s a ??? weird base for a friendship or dynamic ( i mean, a tough one. like ... we’re buds because we’re fighting for a cause whihc we shouldnt even be fighting for bc the world shouldnt be like this )

Shopping at the Seer’s

((This is an unmodivied chat rp with the wonderful @lilthessa was fun to finally have our characters meet!))

It had been awhile since Darlain had taken the time to enjoy the luxuries of the magical city, she mostly had been involving herself in the war effort. However, the supplies for the safehouse in ironforge were running low, and with portals bringing in goods from all over Azeroth, it was the best place to do some shopping without risking the Legion disrupting the supply line. As such, Dalaran was becoming quite the bustling trade city, with new shops and stalls appearing all the time. As she left the bank with a hefty supply of gold to spend, one of the first shops literally caught her eye, a bit of dazzling light from the sun reflecting off the gemstones of some rather fine looking jewelry. This wasn't the sort of thing she'd been sent out to procure but... well, a little indulgance wouldn't hurt. The young dwarf wandered her way over to the stall, smiling as she clambered up the stepstool available for the shorter races, and smiled at the shopkeeper. "Evenin' lass, 'ope ya dinnae mind if I browze yer wares?".

The sindorei looked up from her stall and smiled, speaking in broken yet understandable common. "Hi there! Of course.. Please have a look. Any Color you wish..even mroe if you need em. "Anything in particular you are looking for?" The woman smiled. "I do apologize it's been some time that I spoke Alliance languages." The small shop on a cart was organized by colors, reds, greens, blues, and also various socket gems to put into other items like rings and necklaces.

She nodded. "That may work.. I should brush up on the other languages though, especially if I'm going to be here for a long duration..." She switched into Quel'dorei and spoke a bit more confidently. "How may I help you, I am Lilthessa Shadowfire, and these are just a few of my sample works. I can also make something custom for you, if you wish, miss."

Her Quel'dorei was good, but the accent would likely sound a bit comical to a native speaker. "Pleasure to meet you, Im Darlain, of the Truthhammer clan. And i suppose i could use some advice. Ive never really purchased much jewelry, and i fear my previous attempts may have been a bit gaudy."

Lil tilted her head. "Mm. The green stones that come from Legion's lands might be too bright but perhaps a nice wild jade could be pretty." She went over to the small green section she had set up. Various earrings, socket gems in a chest and bracelets and neckacles were placed there. The woman looked up Darlain for a moment and then produced a few designs. Zimarra - "Yes, the Wild Jade here is from the Jade Forest, ironically enough. I actually mine them myself from the Ghost Iron Ore. I then polish them and then place them within the settings you see. They are classy. but not too overmuch, I feel."

Lil nodded and smiled. "Yet, not too gaudy either. Just enough to show off your style and grace." She produced a small hand mirror for Darbie and handed that over to her as well. "I think it suits well, but its your choice of course."

She smiles at herself as she holds the necklace against her neck. "Sold, ill take all three." She has a giddy look on her face that is charmingly adolescent, despite clearly being quite older than that.

Zimarra - Today at 1:18 PM

Lil smiled. "Wonderful. Though that is all the stock I have on me at the moment." She then placed the necklace back in the box and put the other two also in boxes. "Do you want a bag or are you good?" She asked softly. "That will be about..20 gold for the first one.. 30 for the second. and 50 for the necklace so 100 gold for all three. Having a discount day today. "

She doesnt even flinch at the price tag, offering up 110 gold pieces "fer being a dear'eart and being so 'elpful, lass. Ill be sure tae direct my friends your way."

Lil smiled. "You are most welcome. " She blinked at the tip. "And thankyou for the tip, it will be most helpful. Extra money goes for my little one's education. " She slipped in a little card as well into one of the bracelet boxes. Lilthessa Shadowfire, Fine Jewelry and Fortunes, and it gave the Silvermoon City address. "These are old cards, they have my silvermoon address on them which is the main store. But it should do."

Dar's interest is piqued when Lith mentions her daughter, and she takes her card and nods, and then digs out another fifty gold. "Tough times to be a mother, lass, and I 'ave coin tae spare, especially fer wee 'uns. You take care, and if my eldest's threats tae get 'er ears pierced play out, I may be back in short order." she says with a chuckle, stepping off the stepladder. "You 'ave a lovely day!"

Lil blinked, though no words came out as she opened her mouth and promptly closed it again. She managed to whisper out a thankyou and then bowed her head otwards her. "Thankyou, miss Darlain. I will remember you. Travel safe now." She then took out her little ledger and marked the items sold, making a note to journey back into Pandaria to get more Wild Jade.

Work you are most proud of (and why):

deff yail just because it was such a personal story and i loved the way i was able to play it out. while aspects of it were true to my life, there were a lot of things i had to leave out but i still put it together as a whole fic and i think it worked! i was happy with my writing in it, i am in love with all the characters, and i just really enjoyed the POSITIVE reactions it got. im happy i was true to the story and did it the way i wanted to.

Work you are least proud of (and why):

umm in terms of THIS YEAR, maybe lpl since i have been so shit on updating it. my inspiration is just lacking and time is running out on me in lightening speed. but idk it’s hard to say bc sometimes even though i think the piece is okay i still put it out and then later cringe at what i wrote. i think everyone does that tho

A favorite excerpt from your writing:

this is hard but two things that come to mind right away are from yail. one is chapter 22: the one where harry finds out. that chapter...was a hard one to write. so much had to be said and i needed to make sure i expressed the emotions properly without making it seem TOO over the top. in scenes like those it’s tricky. another that comes to mind is chapter 25: the one where the school year comes to an end. this is a breakup scene and usually breakup scenes are full of emotion but are often rushed or just...cringey. but i was very happy with this one. i took...stuff from how i felt during a breakup and i think that made it real. anyway here’s an excerpt:

“I’ll do anything to make it work, though,” Louis said, practically begging. “You don’t know -- you don’t --.” He could barely speak through his tears because it felt like his throat was sealing up and Harry looked absolutely devastated. Louis’d never thought that after everything they’d been through that it could ever come down to this -- the two of them sobbing on Harry’s bed while he told Louis that even though he loved Louis and Louis loved him, it still wasn’t enough. “You don’t know how much you mean to me, Harry,” Louis was finally able to say. “You’re the best -- best everything. You’re everything.”

“And you’re mine,” Harry said like it was a promise, barely able to speak himself.

Share or describe a favorite comment you received:

i don’t wanna copy and paste anything bc a lot of comments have spoilers, but all the lovely comments on yail are just so special to me. there are some who left long ones telling me how affected they were by the fic and that means everything. yail did get a ton of backlash in the beginning but i don’t even think of that anymore. the positive outweighs the negatives.

A time when writing was really, really hard:

working on lpl was so difficult tbh. like every part i end, i take a 6 month long break before i pick that fic up again and idk why that is. like time is deff an issue but this is just ridic. i’m so frustrated at myself. i need the inspo for this fic to jUST STAY

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

i think that louis in yail was so important. i loved writing him how i wrote him. he was so personal to me and i think alot of ppl related to him in that fic. idk if he surprised me, but he’s the one that stands out the most.

How did you grow as a writer this year?:

i think i’ve become alot more organized in terms of outlining, which makes it easier to write. i also think the more you write, the better you get, so i’ve gotten better over time!

How do you hope to grow next year?:

not sure...maybe finish more fics and write mroe frequently if possible??

@realitybetterthanfiction had my back all throughout yail which was so nice of her. she was supportive, extremely detailed, and understanding. couldn’t have asked for a better beta! same goes for my other betas @stephloveslarry and elizabeth (who i can’t seem to tag????)

Anything from your own life show up in your writing this year:

as i said before, yail deff did. but everything i write has little bit of me or my friends or my life in it.

Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

ummm

1) don’t start a fic with the characters waking up

2) don’t dump information and their life stories within the first few scenes

3) outline is so important

4) get a beta always

5) smut is cool but if it’s repetitive don’t write it

6) every story needs a conflict that needs to be overcome otherwise the characters don’t develop or grow

Hi, I was looking to either rent a car for a day or borrow my sisters, now ive found a site on tempcover willing to insure me for something like 30 - 40 odd quid but the trouble is it said something about excess being in & around the 400 - 500 mark.... A couple days ago I was driving to a doctors appointment, I was rushing and very nervous. I got to a road that was closed where I had to back up. I looked behind me and saw no cars. Tonight President Obama compared the public health care option to the public system of Universities and colleges. He said the public option will work the same way public colleges and Universities without inhibiting a vibrant system of private colleges and Universities. This is a fool's argument and a total apples to oranges comparison. Let me explain, first almost all private universities receive funding from the federal government. The federal government is not going to provide funding for private insurance. The second reason is it's common knowledge that the best Universities in the U.S. are private schools such as Duke, Stanford, and the Ivy League. These universities fill most of the highest paying jobs in the country. Some jobs even go as far as to require a degree from one of these schools (Stock Brokers on NYC Stock Exchange.) These highly paid graduates can donate larger amounts of money back to their respective colleges than the average Joe who graduated from a generic state funded university. No one is going to donate money to the private insurance companies. We can't even get all the people who qualify for insurance to sign up and that's the problem! Look, I have no way of knowing whether the public option will work or won't but when faulty logic is used to support it I become concerned. When most of the people supporting the public option are from California (a state where the middle class is few and far between) I become more concerned. When most of the Senators and Representatives who support the public option say they would prefer the U.S. had a single payer system (that's total government control of health care if you didn't know) I become very concerned. The reality is no one knows what the effects of public option will be. Also, the success of FedEx is not any proof that public option won't hurt private companies because an independent council regulates the mail industry. No independent council is mentioned in any of the plans in the House or Senate. yes or no""
