#im not normal about livio

When I first read TriMax in January, I 100% did not expect how much Livio would captivate my heart. I mean, he effectively helps get Wolfwood killed and I was still VERY UPSET over that (despite watching Trigun 98 two decades ago so already knowing he'd likely die here too)

This was the panel that flipped the switch in my brain that made me go "oh... I'm rooting for him now".

But here's a guy who, in just the last volume:

fought and killed the mentor who had abused and controlled him for years

fought back control over his own body against Razlo (who he will continue to make peace with over the rest of the story)

lost his brother who died trying to save him

Livio hasn't had full control of his body in YEARS. Either Razlo felt it necessary to step in and protect him or the Eye of Michael experimented on him and forcibly changed his body.

And the FIRST thing he decides to do with his newfound bodily autonomy is help Vash in his brother's stead - and fight for something MEANINGFUL. And he's excited about it!

There's trauma in Trigun, sure. But there is also hope and resiliency and second chances.

And I dunno about you but the idea that anyone can come back from the edge and start fresh on something better is really comforting.

Livio looked up, tugged on the hand he was holding, and asked, “Can Mister Vash eat with us?”

“Sure, if he wants to,” Nicholas replied. He looked down at the other man. “Whaddya say?”

You KNOW that Caz has had to sit in this man's lap in the back of the car when the party is all together. There's not enough room for 5 people to sit comfortably, let alone any more than that; and furthermore, not including someone as big as Liv! Vash never drives and probably wouldnt fuss over having to share a seat too much, but lord knows @knife-drawer-rp 's is trying to be the wingman to these two former assassins, so you KNOW he'd pull the strings in a way that Caz ends up having to share the seat with Liv. Caz wouldn't mind normally, but their brain tends to short circuit way more when it comes to the big softie. She'd try to sit on the edge of the seat to give him more room, sit stiff and take up as little room as possible, and avoid looking at him as much as possible because she knows she'd get flustered and stumble over her words. I'm sure Liv would be trying to let her have as much room as he could too, and trying not to think about having a 'girl' in his lap. It would be the FUNNIEST and MOST AWKWARD car ride the party has experienced in a long time....until Caz eventually falls asleep and curls up in Livio's lap ♡

Ok, so i know it's usually the dude who drapes his coat over a girl in this trope--but I think this would happen more with Caz between these two, actually! Caz has dreadful insomnia, and she's a light sleeper on top of that (not to mention the nightmares she frequently has). Livio seems like the kind of guy who could fall asleep anywhere, too, so I imagine Caz has found him konked out in all manner of seats and positions. Of course she doesn't want the big guy to get cold, especially during the desert nights when temperatures drop; she'd grab a blanket or drape her own cloak over him (whichever is available)....and depending on the situation and location, might ride out her insomnia leaning against him until she eventually dozes off ^w^ ♡ ))

| Trigun Stampede Episode 6 Ramble

Before writing this whole thing I’m about to go on, I just want to say that i will be talking about major trimax spoilers, specifically for volume 10 as well as spoilers for tristamp (obviously)! so if you haven’t read trimax, maybe skip this post! Anyways, onto the ramble!

I’ve had this thought for a while now — since I’ve first watch stampede — but I’m dumb and don’t know how to out my thoughts into words. Along with this, I’m sure there are others who have made posts talking about this exact thing but I don’t care, I just want to brainrot and cry over this.

So, episode 6 of tristamp — “Once Upon a Time in Hopeland” — is the episode in which we as the audience are finally given a glimpse into Wolfwood and Livio’s childhood at the orphanage. And immediately, something stands out about this entire scene — the artstyle changes.

Instead of the typical CG/3D models that we the audience are used to, we are given this sketchy, simplistic, 2D animation style instead — almost similar to that of which you’d find in a children’s book. This of course, is completely different in comparison to what Tristamp had shown us previously. All the other flashbacks we had been shown thus far had still been rendered in CG. But this. This scene in particular is the only one with this art style. With that being said, it’s safe to assume that Studio Orange did this with the specific purpose of making this scene feel special and distinct. To make it stand out and to signal it’s importance.

Now, with that being said, why would studio orange go out of there way to make a distinct artistic style just for this moment? Not to mention, why make it only geared towards Wolfwood and Livio? Well… I think studio orange is going to use it in relation to Wolfwoods death.

Like, okay hear me out, I’ve seen some people say that there worried wolfwood won’t die next season (for whatever reason) but like THE DEATH FLAGS ARE ALREADY THERE!

LIKE!! THE FUCKING BELL?? HELLO?? JUST THROW IN SOME CONFETTI WHILE YOUR AT IT! (IM SOBBING SO LOUDLY)

But anyways, back on topic. I think they’ll use this 2D artstyle in a way to make wolfwoods death hit like a fucking train. Like… after rewatching tristamp for the second time, I couldn’t help but feeling like this whole artstyle choice is going to bite us in the ass later.

Like…y’all… I can see the fucking confetti falling in this artstyle…

Now, this last segment of this ramble is just gonna be me speaking in “what if’s” and just spewing out made up scenes based on this idea since obviously we have no clue what studio orange plans on doing. But anyways, here it goes.

So like…imagine studio orange finally adapting the couch scene, with Vash and Wolfwood having their last drink. Now obviously, the scene would prolly go similarly to the manga, with Wolfwood saying that he’s sorry for saying his smiles were empty and vash telling him to not say stupid things. Cue in the confetti beginning to fall, and in Wolfwoods perspective it shifts art style. And to make it even more fucked up, they could do the thing were it flashes between this and then back to the normal CG models; between Wolfwoods contentment of his death and being at peace with it — depicted like a children book — versus the CG — the true reality of it… the one vash is experiencing as he begs god for just one thing.

On a side note, I’m so so so fucking scared and excited for what Orange has in store, considering the fact that they’ve already paralleled the one fucking confetti frame from the manga (which I will not show cuz I cant look at those panels but if you know, you know) and like, I don’t know, I think I’m just gonna be a mess when that arc gets adapted.

Anyways, UH, I KNOW THERES PROLLY A POST THAT HAS SAID THE SAME SHIT BEFORE BUT BETTER BUT I JUST HAVE HAD IT IN MY BRAIN FOREVER SO UH YEAH!

Ok ok hang on cause ive been thinking about something in tristamp and i havent seen anyone else talk about it so i wanna ramble about my source of brainrot-

Tristamp rant w/ spoilers under the cut w/ some minor trimax/98 tidbits

And i cant believe no ones talked about it yet? Or maybe i just havent seen it, but in trigun stampede when Vash is fighting Livio on the sandsteamer and Livio kicks Vash away before Wolfwood gets to him and ya know how vash doesnt immediately get back up?

Well I thought that was kinda weird, considering youve got a guy whos clearly not there mentally with two automatic guns willing to shoot anyone who gets close to him, theres no way vash wouldnt get right back up to continue trying to stop him, but maybe hes trying to give wolfwood his chance, right? But then why does he stay down when Livio aims the gun at himself? For someone who can react fast enough to shoot a bullet out of the air with perfect aim, and wants to save everyone, why didnt he get up to stop him?

So in each rewatch of the show, i would keep looking, and i realized. Its another one of those small details that isnt ever acknowledged or talked about, but if you watch, Livio kicks Vash in the left side of his chest, and when Vash sits back up, he has his hand up over that side of his chest

We still havent clearly seen whats going on on the left side of Vash's chest in tristamp, but since theres clearly at least a scar there, and in trimax/98 he has a metal grate, its easy to come to the conclusion that whatever happened to the left side of his chest was(is) bad, if livio kicking him kept vash down long enough to be unable to save him from killing himself

I know its one of those things you can easily look over, as that would seem like a normal human reaction to having your chest kicked hard enough to send you flying back several feet, but taking into account that Vash is a plant with supernatural healing, and in episode 10 he just basically walks off a gunshot to the gut AND in ep 12 when hes shot down with MULTIPLE bullet wounds he still gets back up fairly quickly (considering a human would most likely be down and out for the count with 4(?) bullets in em) so im wondering if maybe in tristamp theyre even paying attention to the old injuries vash got that were bad enough to Scar a Plant that can Heal himself, and/or maybe how the metal implants in his body could affect him??

Cause i did also notice that tristamp vash had less visible physical scarring, but more metal implants, and im thinkin maybe theyre leanin into the "healing powers" plants have, meaning that maybe plants dont scar as easily as humans, like when wolfwood drinks his vials and ends up 100% fine after being turned into swiss cheese with no scarring (a separate post about conrad being a plant scientist) which ALSO means that any scars Plants DO get, means that it was REALLY. REALLY BAD. Also a separate post about trimax vash possibly going through a litteral blender to end up with those scars as a plant.

Livio's voice floats through the half-open door to your room. "Hey, have you seen my-" They stop mid-sentence as they see you sitting cross-legged on your bed with reference books, textbooks, and printed reports littering the surface. You're hunched over your laptop, eyebrows furrowed in heavy concentration, as you work on your thesis. The very sweater they were just about to ask if you'd seen is falling off your shoulder.

You look good in that color, they realize. Not only that, but the way you look up at them with your glasses slipped low on your nose has their heart thudding and their cheeks warming. You give them a sheepish look, glancing down at the cloud-soft sweater you borrowed.

"Sorry, I should've asked first." You apologize, sitting up and rolling your shoulders.

"N-no, it's okay. It, uh, it looks good on you." They stammer slightly, picking at the chipped nail polish on their thumbnail.

Looks good is an understatement. Livio's pretty sure you've never looked better than you do now, wearing their clothes so casually. They've never been more thankful for their own broad shoulders than when you move to extricate yourself from the research nest you've built yourself and the wide neck collar slips just off your shoulder. Just the small glimpse of skin revealed in the motion has them feeling weak. It's not even suggestive, so why do they feel like they're about to burst into flame.

"Really?" You ask, looking up at them, as you nudge the bottom of your glasses frames to scoot them back onto the bridge of your nose.

"Y-yeah, you can keep it...if you want." They offer. Normally they don't let anyone borrow their clothes. Not after having grown up in the orphanage with very little to call their own. So, why are they doing so now? What is it about you that makes them want to give you anything and everything you could ever want.

"Thank you, Liv!" You chirp, a wide grin spreading across your face and making their heart skip and stutter in its rhythm. It's only made worse (or better, really) when you throw your arms around his waist in further display of your gratitude.

Oh, they're done for...

thinking abt how stampede handles wolfwoods introduction compared to other versions, and to me it kind of fails in a way. one of the big things about wolfwood's character is that he's kind right? he's a good person who was forced to be cruel. they show his soft side by having him interact with kids. it plays out a little differently depending on version, but essentially he sees some kids having a rough time and sacrifices smth (money or food) so they can be more comfortable. its esp poignant in trimax where they were literally stealing from him so it would be understandable if he got mad, but he isn't at all. and this follows the scene of him haggling with the driver, so we know for a fact that wolfwood is not in a good place.

meanwhile in stampede, the the kid wolfwood interacts with is zazie? and at the end of the ep its revealed that they know each other, that wolfwood is working with knives, etc. so it just makes that earlier scene look like a setup, at least thats how it seemed to me the first time i watched the ep.

it also feels a little less genuine than the moment wolfwood had with the kids in the other versions, i'm not sure why. maybe it's because the scene goes by too fast. or because of how different wolfwood is in stampede (he’s so much meaner than his past versions!) so the kindness we see here is just. obscured by how bitchy he is in half of his other scenes. if i'm to believe wolfwood is a good guy, i need to see him be good sometimes idk?

vash's comment about him being good in ep 4 is so jarring to me because it feels like he has zero reason to say that. ik it's maybe not supposed to be 'reasonable' since he doesn't even give an actual reason aside from the ~his eyes~ thing which is not logical at all lmao, just based on vibes. and i do sort of trust that vash has good instincts and can tell when a person is trustworthy or not based on vibes. but when i watched it as someone unfamiliar with the original trigun, unaware who wolfwood was, i was confused as to why exactly vash decided to trust wolfwood aside from maybe his general faith in humanity. the nicest thing wolfwood does is give the kid a lollipop which is sweet but in this context it doesn't have the same effect as giving him his money or smth (and as i said the effect is kinda retroactively belied by the fact that its zazie, not some rando he has no connection too). 

to be fair, his intro scene serves other purposes in stampede. we learn about wolfwood's past in the orphanage, which is important to introduce because his arc with livio is addressed later in the season. it also ties into vash's new internal conflict in stampede about eating and self flagellation and stuff. but that ends up being kinda detrimental to the scene too? instead of saying something normal to the kid that makes us go ‘aww hes good with kids!’ it literally just feels like he’s talking to vash, which he would not be because wolfwood has known vash for 5 minutes atp. obviously im not expecting stampede to copy the scene from the manga or 98, but the fact that they included an analogue of it means to me that they're obviously aware of how important it is to wolfwood's character. still, they managed to execute it in a way that sort of fails to communicate something i personally consider fundamental to his character in any version.

i'm guessing it probably is livio, because he has the same symbol on his jacket that rollo had in his house, meaning he has to be SOME kind of eye of michael guy & he does definitely have double fangs. i'm just very interested as to why he's showed up so soon, because looking at the map, there's no way they're at hopeland orphanage unless there was a pretty big timeskip of just driving, so my guess is this is a way to introduce him before that all goes down which means idk what's gonna happen next episode. exciting!

33. A kiss to a scar, birthmark, injury, or other marking!

It was a shock back when Caz realized just how close she and Livio had been to meeting each other before she abandoned the GHGs. To think they'd both been assassins at some point, and even working for the same jerkwad plant at the same time--and yet didn't know a thing about the other? It was almost comedic.

But now, as they tiredly and cautiously exchanged stories of their respective experiences, it really drilled in just how fucked up their lives had been--and they were only children when it all happened. Caz at least got a taste of what being a kid was like before they were taken away. But by the sounds of it, Livio didn't even get that much; he and Nick had been completely robbed of their childhoods, and it absolutely broke Caz's heart.

And yet, despite everything they'd all gone through, they were still standing--more than that, they were actively choosing every day not to let their pasts define them and be better than people had been to them--even if people still feared and hated them. It was an incredible achievement for all of them, and Caz was especially impressed by Livio's growth.

They reached out to hug him before they even comprehended that's what they were doing. Caz pulled him close with arms around his neck, bracing and guiding the back of his head to lean into their collarbone.

"Im not really great with words, cuz they never feel like they do what I mean justice; but I'm fuckin' proud of you, Livio. An' I mean it. I'm infinitely impressed an' inspired by ye."

Caz angled their head down a little bit to gently place a chaste kiss above his left eye at the brow, over the mark of the Eye of Michael stained into his skin.

"You are so much more than they told you that ye could ever be--an' who you will be is always in your hands, no one else's. Don't ever forget that, yeah?"

tbh the only things about stampede im worried abt is whether it will be normal about livio (tbh, mainly razlo) & elendira. i can accept changes to the source material but hearing that the little blond girl from one of the trailers might be elendira has me making like, a mental prayer circle about it
