okay, so I've seen this sentiment floating around with Morro that there's nothing more to do with him or that his story is entirely done. I disagree and want to share my two cents, but first I want to clarify a couple things. A) he does not have to come back to be a good and worthwhile character and B) I do not think the current conclusion to his character is bad. His story as is, is a tragedy and that's meaningful and C) that I am not trusting unreliable leak sources or 'getting my hopes up'.

Anyways, to say there's nothing to be done with his character is completely wild, and in my opinion a take more formed from fandom negative association than anything based in canon. I think it links back to some people seeing him as irredeemable, or believing without question his 'you can only save those who want to be saved' line. I said it before, but that line doesn't hurt because it's true (you wouldn't believe that with any other characters, why just him?) Morro has a compelling story, and it ends on the note that he can change and right his wrongs (dotd). His conclusion in Possession is sad but good, and his ending in DOTD is at least okay, in my opinion. However, when a character shows clear ability to change and develop, how in the world does that not lend itself to being able to continue his story? He doesn't have to come back, but if he did, there's material to play with. Morro died willingly, in the end, in Possession. I don't understand this idea that it has to cathartic for everyone. What's the crime in someone saying they would be excited or happy to see him again? There's directions to take his story in, and it's not like he's ever going to be anything like a main or strong presence in the show if he ever did come back! Not even the original six ninja are that anymore!

I'm going out on a limb and saying all the people who say Morro shouldn't come back for reasons [x] [y] [z] are going to be the same people who dislike he takes that Harumi shouldn't come back in DR, right? Is it because people think she's irredeemable, or that her story is 'better left done' and it'd be 'bad writing' to bring her back? Be bad for Lloyd? That's what a lot of you sound like to me. Additionally, you're allowed to have your own opinions, obviously but it's getting frustrating to see posts asking people to be less mean about the idea of him coming back filled with tags that go 'and here's why I think he shouldn't come back--' or two mutuals of mine both express the sentiment of pulling back a little from the fandom because of the recent negativity towards Morro. To be honest, sometimes it feels like a lot of people just groan whenever he's mentioned at all (because of the aforementioned fandom negative association) which, that's obviously going to be discouraging and un-motivating for people who do post a lot about him! Anyways, point is, be nicer and also stop mischaracterizing him because it's cool now or whatever 👍

I've been seeing a lot of hate for dragons rising and the later seasons of ninjago and I have my thoughts. As usual. Im a very thought filled person. So I'm gonna tell you all my very correct and right opinion on the matter. Also it's very long be warned now 🧙‍♂️ (little recap at the very end in case you dont wanna read the whole thingg)

The later seasons of Lego ninjago and the entirety of Dragons Rising is not bad. It's just different.

The first season of lego ninjago came out in 2011.

The expectations for a kids show in 2011 are different than the expectations in 2024. The humor kids like is going to change naturally over the years. The tropes in media that kids like is going to change over the years.

We were the target audience when the show first came out, because we were kids. It's a show aimed for a younger audience. Unfortunately, the intended audience did not change as we got older. The show is still aimed at a younger audience, but guess what? There's new kids. The age range is filled with new people. And to still have their target audience hit, they are obviously going to have to change a few things so the kids nowadays will want to watch the show.

The original seasons had more focus on the character vs character conflics. Of course it dabbled in characters having internal struggles and side plots related to building/destroying relationships, but those were more episode specific and he newer seasons just delve more into it for multiple episodes. There was a focus on the fighting, on the action, on the cool outfits and mech armor. The new seasons are still fighting bad guys, with all of the cool effects, but also fighting feelings. You can do both at once. Shocker, I know. Why is there more focus on emotions? Because that's the standard in well written shows these days.

The humor is less characters making fun of eachother, and more a dead silence filled with a silly sound effect. This is one of the things that irked me, but it's okay. My humor is not the humor of the intended audience. The space is intended for the audience to have the audible laughter/reaction. Quick reminder who the show is intended for. (I hold up a sign saying "new generation of young people with different humor then people my age".)

The characters are not annoying. The characters are not weak, or pitiful, or embarrassing. A character having emotions other than love or anger or happiness is okay. Arin not feeling worthy enough for his team? Guess what? That's an emotion lots of people feel. This character is allowed to have self doubt. Lloyd having panic attacks from his visions? Hey, his visions scared him! Characters are allowed to be scared, and have a reaction to being scared.

Characters are allowed to be replaced. I know, I loved the original elemental masters, and wish they could come back for a cameo now and then. Would love to see Griffin Turner once and a while. But you have to remember in the canon, it's been years. Time passes. Wanna know what happens when time passes? People die, people move on, people come into others lives. The new elemental master of air is fine. She's allowed to exist. Do you honestly expect Morro to show back up and be like "omg hiii >< I'm here I want my power back !!" Be honest with yourselves.

Final thought: who cares if characters are gay. A background character wears a nonbinary flag on their jacket?!?!?!? It must be armageddon!! Come on now. One or two flags in the background isn't the end of the world. Cole and Geo's relationship has no effect on the main plot. Geo could be replaced by any character, or even removed, and the plot would still go forward. Gay people aren't out to get you, or turn your show woke, or indoctrinate your kids. They're just there. Cole is still Cole, and Geo is cool. Another thing about Geo: I will not take Geo slander from lava shippers. He is very sweet and kind and just because Cole is not with Kai doesn't mean yall should hate on him. Also I don't even think Cole and Geo are 100% confirmed. So why is everyone going bananas over it? Very silly behavior if you ask me.

Recap: the target audience is young people, young people are different now then when we were young, they have different humor, it's fine for characters to be emotional, new characters aren't the end of the world, gay people are fine.

More of what I’m calling Chilhood Games AU (with the help of both @goldenwitherphoenix13 and @skrunklydoo) where Ninjago is a game played by six kids aged 10-12 with what’s essentially character profiles;

Lloyd Garmadon, aged 10, closest thing they have to a leader despite being the youngest by a couple of months. Lloyd really didn’t want to be a ‘good guy’ initially and only wanted to be a bad guy like ‘Lord Garmadon’ aka his dad, was convinced when he was made the Green Ninja.

Lloyd can get super into the game at times and also one of the few keeping track of all their current lore, he has notebooks. Even outside the game the others will listen to him.

Kai Smith, aged 12, someone gave him a match once and he hasn’t stopped complaining they took it off of him. Originally absolutely the worse kid to play this type of game with because he was super ‘I’m the main character’ type but after a few threats of being kicked out by the other three playing at the time he mellowed out and now makes sure everyone is equally involved.

Kai sometimes makes the game rather physical even when it really doesn’t have to be, especially when Nya gets involved. Big brother instincts on the rest of the group

Nya Smith, aged 11, Kai’s slightly younger sister and while no one will admit it she’s utterly insane, she likes getting mechanical project set toys and doing the exact opposite it tells her for fun. When she gets an idea for how the game should go and the others give her to go ahead she will make it happen, anything the adults say be damned.

Another one who can make the game physical by accident, more so then Kai because for her ‘power’ she carries around multiple water bottles.

Jay Walker, aged 10, second to youngest by a few months and tends to be a bit dense on when the others are trying to steer the game a certain way or when an idea is a bit too dark for a ton of pre teens and like Nya will just go for it. Thinks his older brother, Morro, is the coolest person in the entire world at times.

He’s still adopted but no one knows who his birth parents are even Ed and Edna, Morro is also adopted and neither are interested in learning about their bio parents.

Cole Brookestone, aged 12, slightly younger then Kai and is deeply annoyed by how Kai holds this over his head. He’s also a slight hazard to any ‘villain’ they face as his way of wielding ‘earth’ is throwing rocks he finds at people, sometimes these are really big rocks.

He has lots of sleepovers at the others houses, especially the Walkers, and will sometimes sleep in the woods which causes his poor dad a panic every time.

Zane Julian, aged 12, actual oldest of the group and considered a little odd and strange, incredibly blunt and that one kid who comes out with the most random faces ever or completely story/game changing ideas. Likes to pretend he’s an only child despite his older brother Echo being right there.

Like Lloyd, Zane actually keeps track of the game and the extensive lore they have to the point he has a large board in his room dedicated to it.

Ok that’s enough for now lol, will likely do the villains if anyone’s interested but hey if anyone is interested im open to questions and stuff this au is fun and silly!

I guess it makes sense honestly, for some ppl to recognize him and for some not to. To some, Lloyds probably just looks a little sickly and dyed his hair black. To others theyre probably like ‘is that the green ninja???’ ‘Nah the green ninja has blonde hair thats just some dude.’

The Cole, Jay, And Zane dynamic has been strong these past two seasons. Love them.

ok i know no one asked but in all fairness i havent talked about it but I HAVE NINJAGO AUS nd this is my ninjago blog so im gonna talk abt them. my main one im working on atm is the Hell On Earth AU where the preeminent doesnt get killed at the end of s5 and morro keeps lloyds body as an extra fuck u to the ninja and so he can do semi-human things while traversing the realms. it also includes my ninjago oc, Landon! if u follow me on instagram youve probably seen him but yeah! in my headcanon universe thing??? idk anyway yeah hes lloyds older brother nd kai's boyfriend bc i like him.

also!! they don't have their powers HOWEVER jay, with the help of Nya and Pix, is able to make cybernetic implants to replicate their powers. this however does come at a cost, especially to Zane and Cole.

content warning: gore, m*rder, just a lot of hurtin nd sadness. not brilliant.

Kai is the first to change. after lloyd is assumed dead (he falls off the cliff thing when morro grabs the realm crystal. kai panics and never jumps in but tries to pull him out instead. needless to say, it doesnt work. he does survive but barely, morro is basically keeping him alive at this point.) kai takes all the blame on himself. the others try to tell him it wasn't and they shouldnt have sent the ghost and guy whos terrified of water to help but he just keeps blaming himself and ends up spiralling until he just doesnt care anymore. not caring, however manifests itself in a... strange way. he begins killing (not immediately, its a slow process but after like a good month or so he gets to humans) to feel something and strangely, it helps. othere's something about the helplessness his victims as they realise who he is that just spurs him on.

Landon finds out whats happened to Kai from the others after not hearing from him in a week or so. he's convinced he can help him since they've known each other for years but that doesn't exactly pan out the way he thinks it will. which honestly is stupid on his behalf but he's a bit of a self insert so obviously he's not gonna be smart. anyway he finds kai nd actually finds him in the middle of murdering someone and naturally tries to intervene. Kai nearly kills him in the process but eventually is able to convince Landon to join him. landon also now has a huge burn mark all up the left side of his face that goes so deep his teeth and gums show around his mouth area.

in an attempt to try to kill the preeminent alone in the hopes they'll get kai, landon and lloyd back, 3 of the remaining 4 lose parts of themselves. Jay ends up getting swallowed by the preeminent. Cole gives his soul and Zane gives a quarter of his powersource to get jay back, but he's changed. they've changed too. any basic instinct of self or peer preservation Jay once had is now gone. he rambles, more than he used, and has peculiar delusions and hallucinations. he claims to have a new friend called Em who follows him around. Initially, everyone assumes its a coping strategy. purely an imaginary friend. however, jay can actually see Em and is convinced he's real. Since Jay can describe him in such specific detail and he doesn't seem to be harmful, the others aren't overly worried.

Zane's changed too. cold. calculating. apethetic towards everyone besides Cole. weaker. since he lost even more of his power source, he can't fight anymore. any attempt to over exert himself will just end in him powering down for a while to recharge. In his eyes, he was betrayed by the city they once protected. they all were. so, Zane ends up hiring Kai and landon on as bounty hunters of a sort. hired guns to do the dirty work he doesnt want to send Cole to do.

Cole is Zane's body guard. since he lost his soul, he lost any hint of personality he once had. now he only knows 3 things, protect zane. Lloyd is gone. It's kai's fault.

nya and pixal are in a strange situation. nya didnt lose anything really. shes bummed, sure, but she didnt give her soul or her heart to get jay back because she didnt have to. nya is the outlier of the group; she has developed psychosis or lost her sanity or whatever. shes survived this relatively unscathed. pixal, however, wasn't as lucky. after zane began to change, she tried to hard reboot his systems in an attempt to bring him back, but he wasn't too pleased about that. he took her processer out his system and attempted to get cole to destroy it, however Nya interveened nd saved her. now she lives in the main computer at the samurai x cave where, at night, nya tries to build her a new body out of scraps and parts of her various mechs.

so yeah!! if anyone wants to know more, just shoot me an ask or a dm or smth!! im also actually writing this as a fic so i might not answer question that'll be answered in that early on or if they'll spoil smth lol but yeah!! thanks for reading if u read this far ily mwuah <33

20, so he was like 19ish when the whole apocalypse thing started

he’s bi cause im self indulgent and i like to have fun

he’s probably from like... an east coast state.... i wanna say like maine

but he went to university of iowa

he was majoring in environmental engineering

not to be Super Morbid but like... its a college.... full of people...... so zombies probably really uh Tore Through It. so theres like. trauma and survivors guilt there

he hasnt heard from his family or friends back home since the Beginning probably so he uh doesnt really know whats going on with them so theres trauma and guilt there too

he was very focused and driven and was definitely that guy you had to drag out to have fun

he was also definitely that kid that like. Always Took Care of the People Around Him if only because hes nosy and he knew the Right thing and if you werent doing it he wanted to... correct that... which as he grew up he learned hey uh don’t fucking do that people don’t like that and also it’s not ur business 

but as a younger kid it got him a couple of friends and so even as he got older he fell in more with... the Troublemakers^TM ig

which kinda. made it harder. to be Super Focused all the time. but he made it work bc he had a goal and he knew what he had to do to get to it

and now that that was all like. pointless. like. the work he did and the friends he made. hes pretty uh directionless

like it kinda worked out that environmental engineering is still kinda useful bc even though he was only a sophomore he’d learned stuff abt like. water purification. you know. but its really random he could have been diligently working toward a degree for anything and it just would have had no point

the only kind of purpose he can really work out now is just protecting the local group which means hes 

1. pretty ready to die (trauma really Be Like That huh) and 

2. pretty skeptical of any newcomers

because of his new goal he’s been working with some of the other Survivors^TM to get better at self defense because he.... was not.......... good......... and even now he’s kinda just half-decent

ya mans had very little social skills and very little survival skills because those were not necessary to his goals but now that it is he’s been working on it

that feels like. enough information. is that enough. that feels good
