What do you make of the constant “Max and Daniel aren’t really friends - it’s all for PR” stuff? They’ve really kicked it up a notch with the absolute Maxiel feast we got with the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

I'm actually so tired of L*stappies and how much they hate on Maxiel. They will do anything but accept the fact Max and Daniel are friends. They'll say Maxiel is for PR but hate when you say Charles and Max aren't actual friends and are also PR. The amount of hate Maxiel gets from L*stappen shippers is INSANE!! I have NO problem with ppl who ship them but as soon as they hate on Maxiel I'm completely done with them. It's disgusting.

Also, I love the fact that when you guys see L*stappies hating on Maxiel or seeing them say it's PR, you guys instantly show me. Like yes, this is our Maxiel safe space and I will go on a rant. And a lot of people enjoy it lmaoo

Well written female characters in Lookism? Uhh...

When the bar is at an all time low, it's really not hard to step over it.

At this point, I've been pavloved to think that any female character that expresses a personality trait other than 'simp' is pretty good. Simp is fun when it's part of a list of characteristics (Zack, Ryuhei). Not so much when it's the only thing.

Long live PTJ, the greatest feminist. Anyway.

Mary Kim

Love her. Empress of 2 seconds. Queen of my heart.

Surprisingly kept a platonic relationship with Vin Jin, showing quite a healthy mixed gender friendship. Sassy and smart. Loyal. Good taste in men (Jace). Is shown having a life and interests outside of a man.

On my hands and knees praying that PTJ doesn't ruin her. Kinda glad she hasn't appeared in a while so she is kept away from his incessant need to turn everyone into a love interest.

Lua Im

Once we got over the odd Johan panels, which I heard the Korean audience didn't like and I'm quite happy about, she's fine. And it's not that I care that much about Johan staying a single dog-dad, I just needed a coherent reasoning/build up why they would be interested in one another.

Lua has potential.

Sourcing intel, even impressing the likes of Gun? A little Muay Thai knowledge? Jake and Jerry scared of her? Lol. Ok. Good. Let's build on this.

Sorry anon, I think 'really well written' is a bit of a reach... She does have some decent character development, starting as quite a flighty, shallow girl and then showing that she has a heart of gold, liking both Daniels and. Huh.

Wait. You're right. She is pretty well written. She's selfless and kind and loyal to her friends, putting up with Logan's bullshit. There's enough of a character arc for her from the Zoe we're introduced to at first.

hey hi this might just be my obsession with her but hey. what happened to caitlin's screentime. i miss her. i miss when she had relevant plot and the writers cared about her and didn't just show up to say some science exposition then disappear for another two episodes.

i thought she was one of the main characters. LIKE SHE IS. it just feels like they forgot almost every plot point they have with her until the next caitlin centric episode. whcih gets more and more sparse each season.

s6 was actually brutal, she had virtually no screentime or episodes, it was all about frost, which i get that they wanted to do something different, but caitlin shouldn't have been completely pushed aside. like, i feel like after s4, they didn't know what to do with caitlin. if she doesn't have a love interest or her storyline with frost, they have no idea what to do with her plot.

so they don't include her at all.

WHICH PISSES ME OFF? BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH. SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR CAITLIN STORYLINES THAT DON'T INCLUDE FROST.

those brief, beautiful moments where she gets a chance to shine or have her angst, like when the flashbacks showed her getting fucking run over??? by her dad?? which she repressed for 20 years??? and that's not good plot material for the writers??

in 7x08, when caitlin just breaks down because she doesn't want to live a life without frost?? 2x22 when caitlin thinks she sees jay everywhere and is terrified?

they have an actual goldmine of a character with built-up plot and lore and angst and personality and she's literally my favourite flash character ever and they just. push her aside.

they have deleted scenes of really good caitlin stuff with danielle acting her ass off and they just scrap it because hey we actually wanna see more of another wells or cecile or allegra or whoever they decide to focus on today :3

guys i promised myself this wouldn't be an anti-flash rant, istg im just so sad. i love caitlin. i love frost. i love their storylines.

i've been thinking some more about why i think all quiet on the western front 2022 is a bad adaptation and possibly a bad movie so here's some thoughts.

the book features a stark contrast between periods of waiting for battle, sober but light-hearted in tone, and nightmarish, fragmented, at times incoherent episodes of frontline battle. this contrast intensifies the terror of battle but it also allows the reader periods of relief in which we can spend time with the characters. the book is straight-up funny at times! they are schoolboys and they are fucking around and they all die. the movie's constant grimness allows for much narrower emotionality and in my opinion actually diminishes the terror because it cannot rely on sudden shifts in mood. please 🙏🏻 for the love of god 🙏🏻 switch up your filters

the book is anti-authoritarian, intensely so despite initial censorship, so why on earth did they feel the need to add in a storyline about the good and bad deeds of high ranking military officials? himmelstoß, kantorek and the kaiser scene are all very clear in their messaging: power is usually abused, the people in charge do not have your best interest in mind, and no nation state in the world is worth fighting for. it does not matter what the higher ups think or believe because it's not them who are dying in war. it's a very strange addition that adds absolutely nothing of value and wastes a significant amount of screentime. the politics of this movie are more difficult to parse than they should be.

the movie frames peace as salvation but in the book it is a source of dread. i sorely missed the fronturlaub scenes which show just how little all of these soldiers have to go back to. they are utterly alienated from civilian life and their former selves. paul comes home and the only person he connects with is his ill mother, who is dying and therefore his equal. the movie creates tension by racing paul against the ceasefire deadline – will he make it to the finish line? – but in the book there is no such finish line, the opportunity to get out has passed, there is no peace, says albert. i know that not all changes are bad changes (they are) but this is such an integral part of what made im westen nichts neues an iconic anti-war novel! it was very good at putting into words the trauma of shell shock. the movie on the other hand conforms to non-combatant salvation narratives.

see I'll be mutuals with fans of any driver. there are certain sports teams that are a block on sight, but for f1 I'm a lot less fussy about who somebody like. I find how they deal with people they dislike to be a much bigger issue, and if you deal with it by engaging in parasocial hatred then I just think it is a massive red flag. to be doing it to a driver who is on great terms with the same guy you claim to be defending is just msmfleld unhinged. they need to get over this, and get over themselves 😭 I don't want to unfollow this person unless I have to bc we're genuinely good friends and I would hate to lose them

i think i’ve done a good job of curating my dash (or i thought that until this weekend when i did some spring cleaning 😅) i follow some fans of almost every driver on the grid, i don’t care who people support, how they post about the people they don’t support is more important to me personally.

honestly there are fans of certain drivers where most of the time i won’t even bother with looking because of the amount of bad experiences i’ve had. i obviously don’t think every fan of those drivers are like that but you just have to be extra cautious sometimes you know? ive said this before but every single driver has at least some fans who are horrible, it’s just the extremity of the hate and the concentration of those people in the fandom. sure i don’t like certain drivers too but i won’t send death threats to them or their fans or send anon hate etc, i’ll just try to ignore and avoid them and not get involved, it’s just the logical thing to do imo. another important thing - if i do ever have anything negative to say about a driver or team it goes in the ANTI tag!!!!!!!!!!

i don’t get the lando hate 😭 been into f1 for a good while but this is the first time i’m venturing into f1 tumblr (i’m usually on twt or reddit) and it is like SO rampant and i can’t understand why? cause he’s a rich spoiled kid who was mean on the radio or interviews a couple times? because like have you lot ever seen an f1 driver before? those all come pre-installed. anyway he doesn’t mean anything to me specifically he’s not in my top 5 but idk the hate is a bit baffling like what did he do to daniel specifically and personally besides the sympathy line? idk. anyway sorry for the rant lol but your tags on that lando gif made me think a little (pretty gif btw!!)

ok this was regarding the if i lose more than 10 followers for this im sueing tag under my lando gif. first the tag itself was really a joke 😳 and in reality nobody really unfollowed me. i don't think.

and onto the hate stuff. im sorry to hear that your experience on f1blr hasn't been very pleasant so far. funny thing is i actuall hear ppl say (very often) that they try to stay off of twt bc of the same thing 😳 i think maybe the platforms don't really matter as much as the ppl interacting with us. i couldn't tell you where exactly the lando hate comes from. i mean. the sympathy line certainly wasn't ideal. but other than that we all have drivers we like and don't like, sometimes it's just a vibe thing, i think? and like, a lot of the daniel blogs i follow like lando. and in the anti lando tag there are blogs from everywhere whose blorbos can be anyone. sooo.

@ghostfoolish I've chosen to assume that you are not a malicious ass feigning confusion but a really nice, intelligent human being who was simply so eager to demonstrate that, that you failed to notice the bandwagon you were jumping on had the big ass destination sign on the front: blood purity anti-miscegenation party in segregation town.

Many ppl in the global North know very little abt South Asia, why this attempt at censoring fanart particularly attacks ppl, like Assad Zaman, from those cultures, even what the term "love marriage" might mean, so I'm going to leave that for you to look into on your own. Rather, let's look at the US. There are no small number of ppl of color here who have chosen white partners. And there are ppl who consider them not 'sticking to your own' as a very disgusting thing. In fact, in the southern states poc not 'sticking to your own' was a crime until 1967.

That 'stick to your own' prejudice? That is the subtext applied with a sledgehammer here by ppl yelling 'feel shame for making a picture of a poc who has replaced their poc partner with a white partner Censor it or you're a racist!'. Never mind that this is literally the story going to be told with the Armand Daniel relationship, and never mind that this is IRL reality of no few poc: harassed for 'erasing' a potential poc partner if they choose a white one, and a viciously hateful kick in face that their biracial children live on constant guard against: bigots who believe that they literally should not exist because two people with different skin colors created them.

I want you to consider: seriously, with the brain between your own two ears, for just a moment. To the child being kicked in the face, how is that experience any different if the foot kicking them is white, brown or black? Also consider: would any person simply be lying if they said that the result is NOT a faceful of torn bloody & broken hatefully inflicted pain if the person doing the kicking is also yelling "I'm Black & only a racist would stop me kicking you"?

You tell me. Is kicking biracial children in the face racist or anti-racist? Would you consider it an attack if ppl started screaming that a pic that looks like your parents is something *wrong* something disgusting that should be censored? Do think abt it, with consideration to what the word 'dishonest' actually means, and then you don't even need tell me, just know the answer: Is it a hateful or an anti-hateful thing to demand that any pic of any two people who love each other be censored for *any* reason?
