What do you make of the constant “Max and Daniel aren’t really friends - it’s all for PR” stuff? They’ve really kicked it up a notch with the absolute Maxiel feast we got with the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

I'm actually so tired of L*stappies and how much they hate on Maxiel. They will do anything but accept the fact Max and Daniel are friends. They'll say Maxiel is for PR but hate when you say Charles and Max aren't actual friends and are also PR. The amount of hate Maxiel gets from L*stappen shippers is INSANE!! I have NO problem with ppl who ship them but as soon as they hate on Maxiel I'm completely done with them. It's disgusting.

Also, I love the fact that when you guys see L*stappies hating on Maxiel or seeing them say it's PR, you guys instantly show me. Like yes, this is our Maxiel safe space and I will go on a rant. And a lot of people enjoy it lmaoo

Well written female characters in Lookism? Uhh...

When the bar is at an all time low, it's really not hard to step over it.

At this point, I've been pavloved to think that any female character that expresses a personality trait other than 'simp' is pretty good. Simp is fun when it's part of a list of characteristics (Zack, Ryuhei). Not so much when it's the only thing.

Mary Kim

Love her. Empress of 2 seconds. Queen of my heart.

Surprisingly kept a platonic relationship with Vin Jin, showing quite a healthy mixed gender friendship. Sassy and smart. Loyal. Good taste in men (Jace). Is shown having a life and interests outside of a man.

On my hands and knees praying that PTJ doesn't ruin her. Kinda glad she hasn't appeared in a while so she is kept away from his incessant need to turn everyone into a love interest.

Lua Im

Once we got over the odd Johan panels, which I heard the Korean audience didn't like and I'm quite happy about, she's fine. And it's not that I care that much about Johan staying a single dog-dad, I just needed a coherent reasoning/build up why they would be interested in one another.

Lua has potential.

Sorry anon, I think 'really well written' is a bit of a reach... She does have some decent character development, starting as quite a flighty, shallow girl and then showing that she has a heart of gold, liking both Daniels and. Huh.

Wait. You're right. She is pretty well written. She's selfless and kind and loyal to her friends, putting up with Logan's bullshit. There's enough of a character arc for her from the Zoe we're introduced to at first.

And I do like that she's good at maths too.

One of my best friends of 10+ years is my friend today because the first thing we bonded over was seeing the last HP movie. I used to be deadset on my 2nd tattoo being my pottermore wand with my hogwarts house. I wanted a fucking HP-themed wedding. The first funko pops I bought were Harry Potter ones. My first serious boyfriend told me he wanted to propose to me in front of Hogwarts castle (this was something he said to guilt trip me when i dumped his ass) ((also thank the gods that never happened he was a shithead and so is jkr)). My mom for some godforsaken reason let me help her name my youngest brother when he was born because she couldn't think of a name and my 10yo ass fuckikg picked DANIEL because of Daniel Radcliffe. I was in DEEP.

And you know what? Aside from the books I camped out to buy on release day and the DVDs that are crammed in a box somewhere in a storage unit, I have gotten rid of every single Harry potter thing I owned because I grew the fuck up and found better things to like. Sure I'll watch the DVDs again every few years to feel the nostalgia again because a good chunk of the cast are great people (we fucking stan Dan Radcliffe and David Tennant in this house ) but I'm not giving jkr another cent of my money or an inkling of my time beyond that.

I did something really sappy for my 30th birthday - I said goodbye to the franchise. I mourned what could have been. I went to Universal studios ((also bc Simpsons land and fast and furious ride and ET and a bunch of other stuff are there)) but I stopped into Harry potter world to do everything once and say goodbye to that part of my life since it was something I had wanted to do for most of my youth, and my friend who i became friends with because of harry potter was there with me. We drank the fucking pumpkin juice, had breakfast at the three broomsticks, appreciated all the little easter eggs around hp world, rode the hagrid ride, and ate a chocolate frog I wore my trans rights shirt and dressed gay as hell, my friend is trans so he just ~existed blissfully~ . I think every Harry potter fan needs to acknowledge that the franchise was good for them in the 90s, mourn that part of their life, and move on.

Bonus: me being Gay as Fuck in front of the castle. I hope JKR fucking rots and fades into obscurity and people come to realize she's worse than HP Lovecraft.

hey hi this might just be my obsession with her but hey. what happened to caitlin's screentime. i miss her. i miss when she had relevant plot and the writers cared about her and didn't just show up to say some science exposition then disappear for another two episodes.

i thought she was one of the main characters. LIKE SHE IS. it just feels like they forgot almost every plot point they have with her until the next caitlin centric episode. whcih gets more and more sparse each season.

s6 was actually brutal, she had virtually no screentime or episodes, it was all about frost, which i get that they wanted to do something different, but caitlin shouldn't have been completely pushed aside. like, i feel like after s4, they didn't know what to do with caitlin. if she doesn't have a love interest or her storyline with frost, they have no idea what to do with her plot.

so they don't include her at all.

WHICH PISSES ME OFF? BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH. SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR CAITLIN STORYLINES THAT DON'T INCLUDE FROST.

those brief, beautiful moments where she gets a chance to shine or have her angst, like when the flashbacks showed her getting fucking run over??? by her dad?? which she repressed for 20 years??? and that's not good plot material for the writers??

in 7x08, when caitlin just breaks down because she doesn't want to live a life without frost?? 2x22 when caitlin thinks she sees jay everywhere and is terrified?

they have an actual goldmine of a character with built-up plot and lore and angst and personality and she's literally my favourite flash character ever and they just. push her aside.

they have deleted scenes of really good caitlin stuff with danielle acting her ass off and they just scrap it because hey we actually wanna see more of another wells or cecile or allegra or whoever they decide to focus on today :3

nr 1 thing obviously CLAUDIAAA. most important 30s teen girl vampire ever i'm so excited to see what they have in store for her character. especially given she's ostensibly free but has to bury both the lie of lestat and his ashes while she's traveling w he who built the coffin.....i actually have no idea where her storyline goes in the books i just know its tragic and i love tragedy five ever but if she's not the final girl by some form or reference i will riot. incidentally i love setting myself up for anguish. but yeah delainey hayles' performance looks so promising so far i just know she's going to bring absolutely lethal (2 my heart) facets to claudia's character and mannerisms. i wonder for example if they're having the knocks on wood morph

second is shallower but 40s fashion and the aesthetics are so fascinating to me idk much about that time period (yet) but 40s paris especially looks to be a fascinating setting hehe

and speaking of paris. its loumand hours w/o pause the second the season drops for me personally im not ready for more of them bc it would fix me. noir anti hero and heroine......in MY eyes. more moments of bad lying and flirting only made interesting by how purposefully lopsided the way it sticks the landing is and louis waiting in vain for his cigarette to be lit oh you know and the tension between claudia and louis that's bound to build as he starts spending more time w armand....the inevitability of a separation.....they're probably not going to show us when he decided he needed him for good but the how of it all will tie me up.

lastly the framing !!! from what we've seen in the teaser its armand's narration as well.....with one mask off will he let daniel read her journals still. what role will editorialization play now armand who disapproved of this entire project in the first place is in fact participating. new and blunt languages of repression and sublimated desire >:)

What is the stupidest thing you've ever done? ive got this protein bar. in 2020 (my second year of marching band, freshman year) i was eating a box of them on the way to marching band camp. i lost one. this was in july. i found it on the ground still sealed in january of the following year. i still have it. im going to eat it my senior year at the end of the year band dinner. i have not done it yet. im going into my senior year. im going to do it. it will kill me. i will not regret it.

Is there any meaning behind your profile picture and/or username? I've been asked several times where "Chapstick Man!" comes from. It comes from TF2. I named a rocket launcher "chapstick gun" with the description "ngl chapstick taste kinda good" and then i thought the joke was funny and it stuck. my name is now Chapstick Man on like everything. i have not been sued yet. Im too cool to be sued.

Dream career as an adult? still kinda a child ig. but i want to be an electronics repair technician, running my own little computer/electronics repair shop. i already know how to do it, i just need a building and to be 18 (i turn 18 in december) and people to come and give me their stuff to fix. i love fixing things.

i've been thinking some more about why i think all quiet on the western front 2022 is a bad adaptation and possibly a bad movie so here's some thoughts.

the book features a stark contrast between periods of waiting for battle, sober but light-hearted in tone, and nightmarish, fragmented, at times incoherent episodes of frontline battle. this contrast intensifies the terror of battle but it also allows the reader periods of relief in which we can spend time with the characters. the book is straight-up funny at times! they are schoolboys and they are fucking around and they all die. the movie's constant grimness allows for much narrower emotionality and in my opinion actually diminishes the terror because it cannot rely on sudden shifts in mood. please 🙏🏻 for the love of god 🙏🏻 switch up your filters

the book is anti-authoritarian, intensely so despite initial censorship, so why on earth did they feel the need to add in a storyline about the good and bad deeds of high ranking military officials? himmelstoß, kantorek and the kaiser scene are all very clear in their messaging: power is usually abused, the people in charge do not have your best interest in mind, and no nation state in the world is worth fighting for. it does not matter what the higher ups think or believe because it's not them who are dying in war. it's a very strange addition that adds absolutely nothing of value and wastes a significant amount of screentime. the politics of this movie are more difficult to parse than they should be.

the movie frames peace as salvation but in the book it is a source of dread. i sorely missed the fronturlaub scenes which show just how little all of these soldiers have to go back to. they are utterly alienated from civilian life and their former selves. paul comes home and the only person he connects with is his ill mother, who is dying and therefore his equal. the movie creates tension by racing paul against the ceasefire deadline – will he make it to the finish line? – but in the book there is no such finish line, the opportunity to get out has passed, there is no peace, says albert. i know that not all changes are bad changes (they are) but this is such an integral part of what made im westen nichts neues an iconic anti-war novel! it was very good at putting into words the trauma of shell shock. the movie on the other hand conforms to non-combatant salvation narratives.

see I'll be mutuals with fans of any driver. there are certain sports teams that are a block on sight, but for f1 I'm a lot less fussy about who somebody like. I find how they deal with people they dislike to be a much bigger issue, and if you deal with it by engaging in parasocial hatred then I just think it is a massive red flag. to be doing it to a driver who is on great terms with the same guy you claim to be defending is just msmfleld unhinged. they need to get over this, and get over themselves 😭 I don't want to unfollow this person unless I have to bc we're genuinely good friends and I would hate to lose them

i think i’ve done a good job of curating my dash (or i thought that until this weekend when i did some spring cleaning 😅) i follow some fans of almost every driver on the grid, i don’t care who people support, how they post about the people they don’t support is more important to me personally.

honestly there are fans of certain drivers where most of the time i won’t even bother with looking because of the amount of bad experiences i’ve had. i obviously don’t think every fan of those drivers are like that but you just have to be extra cautious sometimes you know? ive said this before but every single driver has at least some fans who are horrible, it’s just the extremity of the hate and the concentration of those people in the fandom. sure i don’t like certain drivers too but i won’t send death threats to them or their fans or send anon hate etc, i’ll just try to ignore and avoid them and not get involved, it’s just the logical thing to do imo. another important thing - if i do ever have anything negative to say about a driver or team it goes in the ANTI tag!!!!!!!!!!
