cant get over the fungi on ruidus sorry. i have more to say

its implied that the reilorans are able to survive and farm the fungus, theres at least 347 different species of fungus native (?) to ruidus, and theres also slime molds*. evolutionarily (assuming the life evolved independently on ruidus which is a very bold assumption) this would imply that theres also prokaryotic life (bacteria, basically) and likely advanced eukaryotic organisms in the form of animal life, which we do see! its very possible that the reason theres so little plant life on ruidus is because something about the makeup of the planet is aggressively harmful to plants, if i had to guess its the lack of easily available sunlight due to the constant dust storms and the soil is probably unfavorable for growing. this probably means that fungus makes up the majority of the biomass for animals to consume or animals are much more adapted for absorbing nutrients from the soil/other sources.

i do think its interesting that fungus seem to survive and thrive SO well in the deep caverns because most fungus (on earth, and exandria. probably) are decomposers and need organic material to survive off of. they could be decomposing the crystal corpse of predathos though, which is the coolest idea in the world to me, or they could just do so well that they've created an independent ecosystem underground complete with its own n- and c-cycles.

the fungus on ruidus seem to take more after kingdom animalia in general, since theyre motile (for those unawares, fungus are actually MUCH much much more related to animals than they are to plants, so this isnt that out there) which is super cool. the myceits are somehow related to the fungi's sexual reproduction because we see the sterile mycelium on it's own and it doesn't seem to be producing any spores, where the myceits do have spore producing structures (specifically they have hymenophores, since they are most similiar to hymenomycete mushrooms). so i think its likely the myceits are just advanced forms of spore dispersal and will run around till they find somewhere favourable to drop spores (or passively will drop them as they move) and probably they have very short life spans </3 sorry myceits

also myceit = mycete = fungi kingdom. proof of earth-equivalent taxonomy existing in exandria? possibly why the ruidians call them myceits is because theyve seen botanists dream about mushrooms and refer to them as "mycetes" !

*gaz, the source for the # of fungus, seems to consider slime molds a kind of fungus, so its unclear whether all the species are actually true fungi, but i digress because slime molds are closely related to fungus anyway. also 347 is a really low number of species for an entire planet, but whatever.

I personally find it really fascinating Ivory is mistaken as "Ivy" and she has to redirect people away from that. Aside from being an interesting way to introduce a character, there's symbolism potential here. Take it with a grain of salt because obviously, it's a Jonathan Sims situation, it's the creator's name. However. Ivy is a plant, a living organism, and that automatically means a lot more considering this is The Plant Themed Horror Minecraft. Ivory, meanwhile, is . . . dead. It's dead biotic material from an animal. It's prized for its rarity, making it a symbol of wealth if you possess it. Interesting for a servant

Ivy on the other hand is common and well known, fairly easy to obtain. This basically just says that Ivory is far more than meets the eye to the other serving staff

(it's also the name for all those super fancy colleges. You know the ones. Minutes later Clownpierce is informed that Ivory might be "stunted"—she is not an ivy.)

Also I just think it's funny that the head butler assumes she has a plant name because he's so used to the Hemlockes lol

Speaking of hemlock I'm sure this has already been noticed but symptoms of hemlock poisoning include vomiting and restlessness. Pyro didn't seem unsettled by it at all, however. All he does is ask for coffee. A common "settle your stomach and wake up" remedy, but also really great at erasing scents. Wonder if they're being poisoned by someone else or doing it on purpose

White pines being a symbol of peace tho is insane because god it is not peaceful here

hemlock is the name of an evergreen tree as well, named after the poisonous plant. Notable other evergreens mentioned include ivy and white pines.

the symbolism of evergreens is kinda in the name but yeah, longevity and resilience are kinda the keystones here. a little ironic but hey

inspiration is mostly stuff i was most interested in at the time,,, and roleplays,,,

A Botanist’s Obsession; Aramis was my character for a minecraft roleplay i was in before it went dead 💔 i LOVE plants and shit. aramis is based on me in that way. i once thought i wanted to study botany so that’s where inspiration for that came from,,,

story-wise, i always wanted to play a character that went from sweet and kind to the final villain so i’m living vicariously through her. i tend to go on major yap sessions that lead me to stuff i haven’t thought before. some i just have random revelations that come to me and sometimes while i’m listening to playlists for the stories i pick up on stuff :3c

Cafe Columbine: Maggie also comes from an old roleplay (shocker)!! I really wanted to try something new with her so I made a non-poc goth oc!! She really thrust me into goth culture which i now LOVE!!! Adding onto stepping outside my comfort zone, I wanted to try some horror/thriller stuff!!! I don’t indulge in much thriller/horror media but it genuinely just is SO fun to write.

I repetitively listened to “I Earn My Life” by Lemon Demon while designing her, which heavily influenced the whole story. I usually base an entire story around a main character, mostly because it’s easy for me. I earn my life felt like a minimum wage worker, which made me think of a barista at some coffee shop like Starbucks or something,,

This is where I heavily insert flower meanings because I am a NERD and love symbolism.

Fairwood Meadows: Strangely enough, this is the story that started it all. I made a roleplay around my oc Frankie (shocker) with a few old friends and it went dead so I created something on my own. 2021 Fairwood Meadows (then called Indigo Meadows) was vastly different from today!!

Frankie is my love. My pride and joy. My first character I would ever fully consider an “oc”. She used to be my persona for a while. She was heavily based on me, and that can be seen through her character 😭. I feel like if Aramis is this more “mature” side of me, Frankie is the more “childish” part.

I love me a good fantasy story. And this is just that. I also at the time really loved “weirdcore” and stuff like that so that has an influence. A lot of the cast is created by old online friends so overall, it’s a story very dear to my heart.

The Apocalypse Grows: This story is really an accumulation of all the ones before it. It’s a way for an under-appreciated character to really shine (Agnus), and for all the characters to really tie in together. This where I want to show that all these stories happen in the same universe, and all the events carefully affect each other, like dominoes.

I LOVE me a good zombie apocalypse. The events and actions of characters during a complete dismantling of society are always the absolute best to me.

This is also where I get to show off all my hard work of world building and stuff (once i actually do it lol). Just, overall a fun way to end off all these characters’ stories.

I’d say this is the least developed than the rest, mostly because it’s the newest. I’m still figuring out the kinks in how everything’s going to play out.

I’m gonna be honest with you. Only a month or two ago did I have a great epiphany to connect all these stories together. It’s mostly the work of a few roleplays I’ve done + ocs I’ve gotten from artfight last year. I could not have done it without that!!

These stories have brought out the angsty side in me, one I didn’t even know I had :3c I hope you enjoy my tragic gays ;D

favorite oc: This may be shocking. But it is this guy named Twitch. I may have mentioned him once or twice (times a million). im not the best at art so most of these pics will be by other people. this one is by @patchmates

newest oc: had to go back in my works but the most recent person i have created from the depths of my mind was a CG medic named Eq (short for Equilibrium). He’s the senior specialist on sedatives and anesthetics.

oldest oc: oh man i actually have this one oc that started somewhat as a self insert but then she changed so much she is just too different from me to think that anymore. To make a several year long story short. She has plant powers and enhanced physical abilities and is an actual empath. She’s a classic grumpy lone wanderer with a soft spot for kids. I've managed to dig out two pictures of her. She usually uses the second suit and with a staff. She has a piece of a wood from Yggsadrl which is unbreakable and invulnerable to magic. Her name (which has changed at least 4 times over the years) is The Dryad/ Rose something.

meanest oc: I have a hard time making “mean” ocs, but the grumpiest is probably Croissant. He’s my main Corrie medic. He is tired in a way that has nothing to do with Coruscant (not that it helps) and prefers a good trivia book to people in general.

softest oc: Yeah that’s definitely Twitch. #1 Soft guy and I love him for it.

most standoffish/aloof oc: Yeah thats Dryad. Despite being an empath she does not trust easily. Plus she has teleportation abilities so she travels alone a lot. 

dumbest oc: hard to say. all my ocs tend to be smart in different ways. Twitch is a genius when it comes to people but has no tactical abilites, Dryad has knowledge of all botany because of her powers but can’t manage much tech. I have a Mandalorian blacksmith somewhere too.

smartest oc: I’ll just put Croissant here specifically because he is a certified trivia nerd.

horniest oc: I do not think about my ocs in terms of horny \-o-/

oc I'd bang: none of them they’re either me or my children.

oc I'd be besties with irl: Twitch listen I literally made this guy with keeping in mind “hey what would make someone a really good friend.” He’s kind, patient, good with people, and cares for them as well. At this point he’s almost my imaginary friend should I seek help.

so i bought some pomelo at the store the other day bc ive never had it and ive always seen my asian moots talk about it. but bc im a botany nerd i know its an ancestor of grapefruit... so ive been a bit scared to actually eat it.

Ive gone nearly 8 years thinking im allergic to grapefruit because one day in 2016 i used these grapefruit makeup removing wipes and i woke up digging into my own swollen face.

ive eaten grapefruit before as a kid but obviously i hated it bc it's disgusting. so i thought maybe i just suddenly became allergic...

but NO!! apparently from 2016-2018 Neutrogena grapefruit products gave everyone severe reactions from blisters to swelling to peeling. im still scared tbh but damn. ive told everyone im allergic to grapefruit when i aint even

ok sometimes im emo abt mark getting home but right now im thinking abt people realizing he's Just Some Guy like. he gets back to earth and for the first like. maybe couple months the media attention is insane, he's being coached on how to talk to cameras and answer questions about things that they aren't supposed to be super public about, like the mutiny or specifics of how nasa operates that they aren't allowed to get into, and mark is fitting people's expectations, he's funny but charmingly funny, smart but humble, an excellent outlook on life now that he's gotten a second (and third. and forth. and fifth.) chance. there's for SURE a subset of the internet in love with him. he's arguably (or not) the most famous person alive. he's also like. boring. he stays with his parents in chicago for a while after he gets back and the most exciting piece of Mark Watney Gossip TM is when he stops going to a local coffee shop for a different local coffee shop. once he's done with nasa pr his twitter goes back to bad jokes and dad selfies. he gets excited when he sees a weird pigeon on his parents' balcony and names it Greg. the people following him think he's joking or trying to be boring for the sake of people ignoring him because he's tired of the attention. he's not. there's a million theories about what he's really like, like really really like, when he's not pretending to be a boring plant nerd who does calculations for fun when he gets bored, because he's Mark Watney, he survived alone on Mar, he's a badass and sooooo funny, did you read the logs they just released? but really. deep down. the dude's a nerd. he studied botany and engineering because he likes science and math. he's not some dudebro survivor champion badass champion, he's literally just a guy who liked science enough to want to be the one to find out what happens if you grow plants somewhere they don't want to grow.
