omgg so not allowed is a keremy fic inspired by the song not allowed by TV Girl. it's basically a fic cenetered around kevin exploring his sexuality— i'm still in the starting phase of writing the fic though, but it's going to be a college au with no exy involved and basically all the aftg characters attending the same college because why not?

but also i find it so hard to really get a full picture of how i want it to look like so i might decide to make it a oneshot or a short fic idk— like i said it's in the really early stages of becoming something and i might decide to hide it in my drafts forever, but for now i at least got a a few words on paper:

Jeremy Knox stood in front of Kevin Day, his heart pounding in his chest. He felt vulnerable, watching as Kevin’s stony expression shifted to recognition. It was more than Kevin had ever given him outside the bedroom, especially when they weren’t alone. The hallway was filled with the hum of conversations, but Jeremy barely noticed the noise. His focus was entirely on Kevin. Jeremy realized Kevin was standing with his friends, but the consequences of confronting him like this hadn’t crossed Jeremy’s mind yet.

The two of them were no strangers, but it hadn’t stopped Kevin from ignoring Jeremy for the past few days. The silence stretched between them, while Kevin’s friends watched with curious eyes.

Kevin still didn’t say a word, though, as he stared Jeremy down. For a moment Jeremy started to believe Kevin would disregard him entirely, just as he had been doing for the past few days.

A few nights ago, Jeremy and Kevin had been all wrapped up in each other. At the time Kevin had been desperate to get a taste of Jeremy, allowing Jeremy to pull him apart with eager hands and hungry kisses. Now, in the quiet aftermath, Jeremy was sure he could still feel Kevin’s heart racing against his own skin, even though their bodies weren’t pressed against each other— or maybe it was just his own heart pounding in his chest right now.

Taking a deep breath, Jeremy dared to take a step closer, lowering his voice.

“We need to talk, Kevin.” He was sure not everyone caught his words, but he didn’t miss the raised eyebrow from Kevin’s friend standing closest to him—Andrew? It must have been Andrew. The two of them seemed almost inseparable. The only tricky part was that Andrew had an identical twin brother, and Jeremy often struggled to tell them apart. Since he only saw one of the pair, though, he figured it must be Andrew this time.

Anon imma give you my biggest secrets to fanfic writing, the ones that have carried me thru 15+ years of fic writing, of unwanted critics, of haters, and of little to no attention to my fics.

1) this is the most important one: write what makes YOU happy. Writing fanfic is a hobby and it should spark joy. It should make you happy. If this means you’re taking the big bad of the series and turning him into a baby that the heroes have to raise? Go for it. If it means a villain is your meow meow and you’re gonna rewrite the story to make him a good guy? Go for it. Whatever makes YOU happy. Because in the end, you are writing for yourself and for you to have fun. Yes validation is nice, but—

2) —but it’s not the end all, be all. It’s always so so sooooo good when people comment on your fics and leave you reviews and go nuts for your work. But I write for dead or niche fandoms and I rarely get attention on any of my work. And I made peace with that. You need to make peace with that. Validation is nice, but kudo/comments/hits are not the goal here: you having fun is.

3) ignore the haters. There are SO many gatekeepers in fandoms nowadays that it sucks the fun and joy out of life. Block them, don’t even reply, just block them. AO3 has mute and block buttons. Use them. And if they are extra rude? Report them. In the old days, we used to say “flames will be used to warm cold feet” which translates to “your hate is less than dirt” (flames here being haters and unwanted criticisms). It still applies.

4) this one is optional but: find like minded people! People who’d enjoy your work! People who you love discussing ideas with! It goes a long way to give motivation!

5) this one is hella important: it’s not ooc if it’s an au!! :) A person growing up in a war zone is gonna have very different experiences than a person growing up with parents who run a coffee shop and will have a different experience to growing up in an orphanage etc etc. and all of these things WILL affect a person’s behavior and will change how they interact with the world. Even if all those three scenarios had the same trauma (i.e. a fire), each one would react differently and would lose different things, which again, affects how they’d act.

6) BE ooc!! DO IT. Why? Because NO ONE is gonna write the character as “ic”’as the original writers/creators. The character in your head is different than the character in another person’s head, and in another’s, and so on. This is because our own lives and experiences affect the way we interact with the world—and fictional works. And working super hard to please the public means that someone out there will always go “that’s ooc how dare you.” You can never please everyone, remember that!

6.5) but also: write crackfic. It will help you break out of the fear of oocness so much. Even if you don’t write them, have crackfic ideas. They’re so good for your soul—humor is so good and cringe is dead.

7) and this is hella important: Anon you are human. Humans make mistakes. We fuck up. It’s how we learn and grow. And NO ONE was born perfect. Writing takes practice. Writing in character takes practice for every new character you write! It’s not easy! But you gotta trust yourself and your writing skills, and that requires practice too! Practice practice practice!!

So, TL;DR: Do what you want. Do what makes you happy. You are not being paid for this, and if people don’t like your writing, they can pay you to write exactly what they want. And fuck up as much as it takes for you to feel satisfied with the pieces your working with. And most important—aus and oocness go hand in hand.

Omg I’m so glad you acknowledge how Buttercup, despite being all “eww kisses and other mushy stuff” still actually does that herself, like kissing that one dirty boy along with her sisters (this episode is lowkey kinda gross) and she gave that old guy in Make Zen to Me episode a small peck on the cheek, simple and super innocent things. It’s sweet.

Yes I agree with everything you said there, its a pity that she’s treated so one note most of the time, the way I see it she’s either too hyper masculine or she ended up being way too feminine (usually when she’s in a hetero ship) there needs to be a nice balance. I think a lot of people are too afraid to make her soft in doing so will make her less tomboy or something, it felt like so many are knee deep in that archetype for her in fear of making her remotely girlie. The other Girls too but its sort of the opposite for them.

Also been thinking a lot about how Craig’ll handle them, I’m also curious if he’s responsible for their season 5+6 interpretations, I like to believe he was, cause they manage to be their own characters despite having very minimum appearances. I think they’re very outdated outdated characters, if Craig is interested in bringing them back I can imagine them definitely getting less or not so chauvinistic and misogynistic, but idk, how do you feel about that btw? or should they stay misogynistic cause they’re just little boys, I agree with them staying as villains, I’d like to have all the villains stay villains as well, maybe an open ending like PPGRules would be nice. Idk i’m so anxious now lol I trust whatever Craig is cooking up, his recent show Kid Cosmic was pretty good.

Craig was on and off involved with seasons 5&6 but for the most part was working on Fosters! I don’t think he was really too involved when the boys made a reappearance unfortunately but they’re still his characters and he’s a good storyteller so if he brought them back, I can only imagine he does them justice!

In regard to the rrb’s misogyny, I think it’s only fair to tell you I actually don’t like any of the boys’ episodes a whole lot. My only favorite is Custody Battle, where the girls are hardly present.

In truth, im not the biggest fan of gender wars, and that’s how the creators used the boys’ characters. Even when I was a child watching the show, my mom told me how much I didn’t like the rrb 😂😂 something about “stupid boys”

Which idk maybe I’m being to critical here, especially given the content, but that reaction from a child isn’t great, especially for a show that’s all about love and acceptance. I think it’s over done, cliché, and so very much the opposite of what feminism (equity and respect among genders) should teach people.

I understand why the boys were made the way they were, but I definitely think as time has continued on, the way people view sex and gender has greatly evolved, so I would hope that if they bring the boys back they leave behind the weird “haha boy drool girls rule, our femininity has saved the day.” I’m big on “girl power” but I don’t like it at the expense of putting down the other genders. That’s not feminism to me. I don’t fuck with that terf bullshit

In the Boys are Back in Town, I feel the creators deviated from “femininity saves the day” because kisses no longer destroyed the boys (which weird how in all the episodes with cooties, the day is always saved by three little girls kissing something, but…….moving on) . However, the day was saved by demasculinizing them and sort of making fun of them for crying, and not to say they weren’t shitty kids in that episode, but I’m also like, maybe that shouldn’t have been how the lesson of that episode was taught???? We shouldn’t make little boys feel bad for being rough, and depict little girls pulling one over them to properly chastise the behavior. Children shouldn’t have to regulate other children.

HOWEVER I think that the boys could still be coded as “women haters” in the new show, and I’d be fine with that because there some boys are like that irl and we shouldn’t shy away from that discussion. I just don’t want the problem solved by the creators going “and the day was saved because boys fucking suck.”

Like make that make sense. It’s a very late 90s early 2000s cliché so it fits the time period of the show, but I like to believe we’ve grown as a society.

Overall, I think it really really depends on their purposes in the new show, if they’re even in it. If they’re suppose to be shitty people/bad guys, I’d want them to be shitty people/bad guys, and that could include them being misogynistic. If they’re going to be redeemed, I want the shittiness of their characters to ease up. In any case, I what I DONT want is simple solutions to complex discussions, but it’s a kids show so I’m not expecting much haha 🤷‍♀️

TCW Rewatch: Season 1 Episodes 5-8

These get more interesting the less serious I take it. I’m actually at season 2 now and moving these from my notes app so the formating gets a bit funky.

Im considering uploading my phantom menace notes bc i truly am qui gon jinns biggest hater.

Note: Episodes 6 and 7 are not my favs so they get shorter notes but Bombad Jedi unfortunately got more than average notes even though it is the jarjar jedi episode. This is a grave disappointment but I feel it makes up for the lack of notes in 6-7.

but sidetracking cause you mentioned M.Construction and its got me Thinking Again cause like.... i like the idea of balancing Nishida + Minami as opposites in many ways who clash and struggle to fit in with the other. they're not perfect opposites by any means but they function pretty closely. i like stressed, decent Nishida representing the side of the family involved with M.Con while lenient punk twat Minami is firmly planted in the Yakuza side. if Junior Leader is at all involved with a training position then that kind of helps prop up this idea a little bit.... though, ofc, there would be plenty overlap, having so many men on payroll practically requires you to make jobs for them, so it's not like the Family is divided into these two sectors or anything.... lots of mixing of shifts goes down no doubt. whether there is a method to this assignment is another story entirely (probably depends on each person's strengths, abilities, whether they applied for sitework specifically, or as punishment/reward)

i think shes pretty frightened by the blight of her colleagues and peers (disease but also Murdering and etc). not so much for her own safety altho thats also a concern, more just for the sense of ‘oh my god if shit gets worse im going to lose it’ but like. every time it gets worse LOL. i think it pisses her off more than anything tho.

5: Describe your character’s dream date.

have a week off of work together and go somewhere nice and several miles away from said place of work and sleep a lot and eat a lot of delicious food and have yuri sex

8: Does your character hate anyone? Why?

i think shes pretty hating and unsympathetic towards anyone still in the military at this point with all the Corruption (especially after having been so closely affected by it)

idk if many of her fears are particularly irrational. i think her perception of how badly the military At Large wants to kill and main people is a bit exaggerated but i think she has a right to believe that <3

as the previous two answer suggest, typical military/gov hater. understands why people join but extends no sympathy. yes, thinks shes better than everyone because she exited that lifestyle and feels very righteous about it.

30: Would your character have any hobbies?

she’s quite busy between work and harassing the government (maybe that counts as a hobby) but i think she’d enjoy saying jeopardy answers aloud and taking a good nap. i think she also participates in whatever social activities the Commie Doctor Friends are taking part in that month.

37: Do people have justified grudges against your character?

i mean i think shed generally looked down upon by Some just by nature of what she does/her politics but more specifically speaking... i think her family/prior colleagues still aren’t very thrilled by her current life path because they frown upon those anti-governmentmilitary complainers, nonetheless one who had a great life and chose to make it more troublesome for herself on purpose LOL and they’d have much preferred to have her help around the Family Business either doctoring for the government or teaching but 🤷‍♀️ shes a grown ass woman. they haven’t really Talked in a while. the grudge goes both ways and the justification is debatable.

45: What would your character change about themselves?

i think overall she’s satisfied with how she is and doesnt have many regrets. she’d be interested in changing where she was on Ivy Murder Day tho. SHE wouldnt have let that happen.

i like her because shes a cunt yet also so sad. i like her because of her contrast with selma and her special brand of bitterness after her relationships with the two most important people in her life are Lifechangingly Altered

How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud? i have literally never not once been organised about my writing my whole entire life <3 no but um every now and then when im trying to procratinate writing i'll give my onenotes a little organise and that's like my main one for writing actual chunks of floaty prose i have no idea what they're for, google keep is for tiny little ideas and sometimes ill scribble bullshit down on scraps of paper in the middle of the night when i dont want to turn my screens on and then i'll either 1) not be able to find it in the morning or 2) not be able to read my own handwriting What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up? oof god idek bc i am fighting for my life against the worst writers block ive ever had atm, normally my block consists of zero ideas but ive got so many my brain just will not put out words anymore. but i guess just the fact that even when its frustrating i know that my writing is like the biggest part of me and what i would define myself by because its just always been there and its what i want to do, although i dont know if I've ever actually wanted to give up. its more me being angry that i cant do it today so just counting down the seconds until i can again.

upon making this post a second time (rip 😔), I realized that just about every episode (yes, every. single. one. even the ones without Mulder and the latest season where he has to share headspace with [redacted]) has its own important and iconic hair looks... You may recognize that some of these are slightly repeated from the last post but that’s ok! What I'm here to do is enforce! So lets get started..

#10 s6:e21 Field Trip: Here again we begin our journey into cosmetic superstardom with a personal favorite of mine.  Mulder rolling with the times by getting a haircut fresh off the FTF wave left our nation in fucking shambles. Can’t imagine going to see a major motion picture in theatres jam packed with Mulder’s most supreme hair looks only to come back to my tv screen to see it all gone away.  For students reading this post for educational purposes, this caused a worldwide walkout on popular salon franchise Supercuts in the year 1998.  However, a haircut didn’t necessarily mean Mulder forgot how to take care of his hair.  The precision and placement as each strand of hair perfectly outlines his jumbo head is revolutionary and inspiring.  Mushroom induced drug high? K. Lemme still grab my teasing comb and my hairspray and make sure I look presentable for when my partner walks into my apartment screaming abt “where's Mulder” and wanting “answers”.  The answer is this: this look is about giving people like myself with big heads rights and looking fuckable while doing so. 10/10 for inspiring hope.

#9 s1:e9 Space: Imagine you’re a few episodes into a show, the core plot is developing right before your eyes and you’re beginning to get to know The X Files three main characters; Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, and Mulder Hair Strands #1-3.  All is well except, you still have no clue how crucial, and critical Mulder Hair Strands 1-3 will become to the show and to your life and I am here to tell you that you are in for a very rude and bold awakening.  This message goes out to all the haters and all the people who didn’t believe Mulder’s hair was valid prior to season 4. He is here to tell you he DID know how to use dry shampoo and even the occasional blow dry oil and you can suck a dick abt it. Bold of you to assume he wouldn’t pull the round brush and the biosilk out the drawer to impress a visit to fucking NASA. 10/10 for involving science.

#8 s4:e6 Sanguinarium: I sit here writing to you today as the song ‘Handmade Heaven’ comes on shuffle; strikingly fitting for this raw and ethereal image of straight up beauty and wonder and magic and heaven in hair. This special, freshly washed and air dried smells like strawberries and sandalwood and fuckability. The look reaches through your TV and wraps its hands around your neck and sucks the life right out of you.  Are you gonna let it happen? You sure are.  Lucky for you, I just so happened to be there when the angels hand sewed each strand of hair onto his head and here’s what they had to say about it:  this is everything and more and the way Mulder has just washed his hair with fresh mountain water droplets hand collected like nothing else mattered. Put his clothes back on and went on his merry way. Can’t imagine being in Scully’s shoes ready to walk on in her partners room unannounced to go over serious case related matters and theories.  Woulda went bonkers. This truly is a handmade heaven.  Hand crafted by Mulder for Scully and for the good viewers of the globe. 10/10 for embracing me in its arms.

#7 s4:e3 Home: A look from one of primetime TV’s most notorious banned episodes.  Viewer discretion IS advised not only for the horrifying and cringeworthy content displayed in this episode, but for also making it painfully blunt to the viewer that Mulder’s hair follicles are happier and healthier than anybody else's will ever be in their lifetime.  In fact, I can feel my own hair falling out and being respawned onto HIS head as I type this and I’m sure you can too. The way the sun glistens off his golden brown strands makes me want to walk into oncoming traffic.  You might also notice how effortless this look was, as it probably only took a quick run thru with his fingers, and Mulder’s passion and need to look sexy at any time of the day at all times. It’s obvious that this kind of thing comes naturally to him, which just comes off as insulting to men everywhere. 11/10 for striking fear into men’s hearts.

#6 s4:e20 Small Potatoes: Genuinely took every bone and nerve ending in my body to not put this look in the top 5 even though it so clearly deserves it.  Here at mulderspice we believe in diversity, meaning it wouldn’t be right to make my top five greatest hairstyles ever produced on The X Files just of Mulder’s iconic and revolutionizing middle part (though really who is stopping me..). This screenshot in general has me up in arms at how perfectly the blue background matches his eyes, and how it accentuates his hydrated skin and lips.  But you’re not here for that. It’s the hair particularly that really pulls the shot together, as Mulder took the time that morning to spray it with some tinted dry shampoo that most defiantly and absolutely smells like chocolate.   This look feels like a warm hug on a frigid winter day. I feel EMBRACED and I feel CARED FOR thanks to the wonderful staff and team @ Mulder’s head and hair follicles. What the fuck could be better than this. 16/10 for making me feel some type of way.

#5 s4:e8 Tunguska: Currently you may not think anything of Krycek to the left of this image though ill have you know he plays an extremely vital part of this look and all the words I’m about to speak to you directly. So listen up: Krycek may have heroically slayed Mulder’s father in cold blooded and justifiable murder, but we thank him for this, as it caused Mulder to lash out in the best way possible: through looks. “Un-shun: Krycek do you think I’m good to bring my Redkin Rewind 6 styling paste with me or will the Russian TSA think of that as contraband? :Re-shun”.  A sweaty, manly and highly illegal treck through a Russian testing facility and a stint in a violent foreign PRISON surely was not going to stop Mulder from keeping his hair properly hydrated, styled and parted. That’ll really ruffle Krycek’s feathers and make him feel sorry for what he did…. The sexiest way to avenge the death of your deadbeat father. 24/10 for you know why.

#4 s1:e6 Shadows: In the year 1993, Mulder steps onto the scene, young, fresh faced, bright eyed and ready to give men around the globe what they (so desperately) needed: the encouragement to care about their hair.  Any backstreet boy you may know have this scene to thank directly, as this is what encouraged them to reproduce Mulder’s hair onto their own heads time and time again.  What I would give to see with my own eyes Mulder length times width times height his head to equal this perfectly proportionate look of volume and sexy. And who can I write a warrant out to for allowing this shot to take place.  Oh to be the various and expensive hair care products in Mulder’s bathroom …… 899/10 for starting a movement (-1 for making us do equations).

#3: s1:e10 Fallen Angel: The biggest regret I’ve ever had in my short little life was not adding this moment to the last post.  And tumblr deleted it in order to give me this opportunity to present this to you today.  By the way, that absolutely is in fact a choir of angels singing as you view this image. Go ahead and try to think of something on this earth that could be better than this tossled bed headed im-stressed-becos-my-partner-of-2-weeks-isn’t-seeing-the-big-picture-about-how-we’re-all-key-pawns-in-an-ongoing-government-conspiracy hairstyle hand crafted by Mulder all while holding his head in his hands hard at work trying to break through to the truth.  Scully [insert photo of Scully with her eyes popping out of her head here] and I both wanna rip our own hair out and throw it in the garbage. 2000/10 for making our hearts ache..

#2: s4:e10 Paper Hearts: Behold- the image I’m slamming down on the desk at full force when I finally get myself a therapist. I need a licensed professional doctor to help me understand the various angles that this purposeful shot affects my life health and well being. In a paranoia induced out of body experience Mulder took his pinky finger and parted his hair down the middle, took a protractor to perfectly round the tendrils falling ever so gracefully on his forehead and ran out of his apartment and through the woods of DC.  Doesn’t matter if he’s crazy? Doesn’t matter if its fuck all 4am? Who knows if the discoveries of this night is finally going to answer the heartbreaking questions regarding Mulder’s baby sister? Fuck it we’re just gonna make sure Scully has something to look forward to after being awoken yet again in the middle of the night and asked to come wrangle and control this stupid idiot.  This just makes me unhinged.  50000/10 for waking up in the middle of the night and doing the most for us all.  

#1 s4:e3 Teliko: This one will remain number one for as long as I shall live.  I’ve dedicated my life to this cause and I’m ready to make you painfully aware of it. Grab a pen and paper and get ready to do some heavy math with me because this look right in front of your eyes is the equation to happiness and sexiness. Can barely find the words to describe to you how this picture makes me feel. Each strand of hair is personally reaching down and wrapping his head in one big giant hug of protection and solitude.  Unbelievable that Scully didn’t head back to her hotel room and scream at the top of her lungs right after this. There’s no way she went about her day as normal without wanting to kick the shit out of him and then put him back together with soft feathery kisses.  What you are witnessing here is the very turning point of the show where Scully looked into into the very center point of that part and said “guess I have no choice but to fall in love with him 🚶🏽‍♂️”. Chris Carter’s idealistic version of Mulder and the one we actually ended ups seeing as viewers were so drastically different that it’s blatantly clear that he had absolutely no idea the cultural implications that were about to rock the world to its core and tip it on its axis when David Duchovny showed up on set looking like this. I could write a thesis about this. I could conduct research and studies about this.  I got kicked out of college because I cared more about this than I did actual schoolwork. I feel like I’m in a very sexy chokehold. Wish I could live forever in one little square pixel of this image.  Nothing means more to me than this.  1000000/10 no further comments.

s8:e16 Three Words: Dead? Did you die? Did you die and miraculously defy god by rising from the dead and coming back to life? Just got home from the morgue? Think nothing is the same? Left guessing if you’re a soon to be 5 minute father? Did you just fucking die? He’s lost his family and his job and the world just went on without him like it was nobody’s business.  Walked out of the morgue right to his apartment and what did he have left? His expensive array of hair styling and finishing products that’s what the fuck he had left.  Being an all around reject from society didn’t at all stop him from taking his fingers and dipping it into that Big Sexy styling pomade and fluffing his head to high heavens. As a personal fuck you to god and to John Doggett too.  He’ll never let you know the emotional hellstorm going on in his life in that moment but he WILL make it known to you that despite being 8 feet under ground for 6 months he’ll never give up on his hair. For the PEOPLE. Try and go through the nightmare of death and then rejected fatherhood and see if you come out of it with any hair at ALL.  An itty bitty glimpse into what would have been Untitled Mulder Abduction Story (2001)....

I Want To Believe (2008): Here you will see the sluttiest moment in major motion picture history.  Shh im not using this opportunity to show you this screenshot for the 800th time I’m trying to keep you educated.  BREAKING NEWS; Man hiding in home office for 6 years fully off the grid has FULL head of hair and is getting regular sex *not clickbait*. So what if Mulder has gone fully unhinged and off the walls bonkers he’s also gone FULL slut and it shows in that sexy thick voluminous head of slut hair.  If you ever for a second thought prior to seeing this movie for the first time that Mulder would show up a full on son-less wreck and a half think the fuck again babes.  He’s managed to hold on to every single little strand ever grown on his head even well into his middle aged madness and its about time we give him the credit he deserves.  (PS. Please know I wrote this entire spiel without even viewing the shot shown here. Its just permanently etched on the inside of my forehead so its there when my eyes roll back into my head.)  For this we say…..; Whore rights.

s11:e3 Plus One: Incase you were unaware, I have been going through a very slow and painful process of erasing Season 11 from my brain completely.  Its been a long road but its achievable and the end result will save me from a lot of future heartache and trauma.  This however, is a moment I will cherish forever and though you may think its for the hot sex (which is like maybe 30% the case) its actually because it puts together everything I’ve ever loved and believed about the show in only a few thousand pixels. How old is Mulder here? 30? 31? Still has hair and still has an unbelievable amount of love to shower Scully in for as long as they both shall live (which lets face it, she deserves one million times over.)  What this has taught me was to hang up my “Mulder deserved…” hat for good and just be thankful for what I’ve got. I ended up with no son or happy dreamy ending where Mulder gets to die with a family he’s never had in his life, but here we are left with the little things.. Like Mulder and Scully’s unconditional love and most importantly .. The hair on Mulder’s head. Its called growth and acceptance and I am learning it.  Also I just wanted to show you what it would look like if you were like 57 and sexy and still had all ur hair. That’s it :-)

I just finished DBH and Im seriously so in love with it! But when I came on Tumblr, all I could find is all this content around Gavin, and Im just so confused, because he seemed like such a jerk in the game. Why are people so into Gavin? Did I miss something?

Hi there!

First off, allow me to welcome you to the fandom!

In regards to Gavin: you literally did not miss anything; he is absolutely a one dimensional jerk in game!

Its important we make a distinction here between fanon Gavin and canon Gavin. You’ll find the fandom is incredibly divided - a lot of people adore him, a lot of people hate him. The reason for disliking him is understandable, of course - there’s a slew of incredible and well rounded characters in dbh (North, Luther, Kara…) that are swept under the rug in favour of a veritable avalanche of content for rat man reed. He has 14 minutes of screen time in which literally all he does is antagonize and threaten the player. But people have to understand, when someone says they love Gavin, they mean fanon Gavin. I don’t think theres a single person that is actually a canon Gavin stan. 

Keeping that in mind, you also have to take into account the drop off - at this point, the only people still left/creating content in the fandom are generally the ones that are balls deep and clinging to the headcanons, au’s, etc. that they’ve built with friends. This applies heavily to Gavin for reasons discussed below. Additionally, the algorithms for sites like tumblr and instagram won’t recommend old posts; old posts don’t show up in tags. Artists with a lot of clout that have since moved on from the fandom’s work have basically disappeared into the void (rebelflet, for example). So it may seem like there’s only content of Gavin / Gavin ships, but in reality there’s a ton of jericrew and Kara crew out there from when the fandom was still new / bigger - you just have to know where to look.

So… why do people like Gavin… I mean, it helps that canonically he has beefy tiddies, a cool bad boy jacket, and a pretty face at certain angles.

That being said, I think one of the biggest reasons Gavin (and RK900, by extension) are so popular is that they aren’t well rounded, fleshed out characters. Because we don’t really know anything about them and they have minimal screen time, they’re easy to project on or to add onto, and no one can tell you that you’re wrong because there’s no evidence against it. It’s almost like a universally shared OC that the fandom has developed together. Since they have no canon backstory, and in rk900’s case, no canon personality, it allows for a lot of creative freedom and the ability to explore character interactions, foils, and growth within the dbh universe. The growth aspect, I think, in conjunction with the projection aspect, is key point for the popularity. It tends to be fairly formulaic. Take the canonical asshole Gavin, stick him with an android - whether its RK900 as his partner or Connor as a coworker. Have him come to care for the RK model, and deal with his own insecurities (and usually a traumatic past, the flavor of which might depend on the creator’s own life struggles). Repent, redeem, grow. This redemption arc is the same exact vein of growth and change that makes Hank and Connor such an appealing partnership for players as well - only, in Gavin’s case, it allows for complete freedom in how to get from point a to point b. People like a character they can relate to - and when you can smack your own possible trauma (being an illegitimate child, having an abusive lover, abusive parents, abandonment fears, body insecurity, whatever it may be) on a character because they’re a blank slate, you relate to them and vent through them. Even little “silly” projections or projections that aren’t necessarily traumatic can make someone love a character even more - for example, “Gavin loves Hello Kitty,” “Gavin can’t handle spicy food,” “Gavin is Latino.” Even when the creator isn’t projecting, adding these kinds of headcanons make him a fleshed out, three dimensional character that people can relate to or empathize with, especially when giving his actions an explanation besides just fear of losing his job.

I came into the dbh fandom a little late; by the time I knew what it was, the hype had died down and reed900 was already a firmly cemented, heavily present part of the content. Given that, I’m not sure what its exact origins were, or if it seemingly popped up overnight. It could have been crack. My best guess is that people saw the positive change between Hank and Connor, and thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be rad if we stuck the other Connor with the other dysfunctional DPD bastard?” . I admit, it makes a nice parallel, which may be part of the appeal in additional to the previous reasons. Speaking of those kinds of interpersonal relationships, there’s also a popular headcanon (that’s been mentioned/liked by d*vid c*ge himself) that Kamski and Gavin are siblings/half siblings/cousins. This stems from the fact that Kamski and Gavin are both mo-capped/voiced by the same actor. By taking this headcanon into account, it adds depth to Gavin’s hatred of androids and allows for interesting backstory exploration, growth, and reconciliation.

Another reason is the enemies-to-lovers trope. For a lot of people that trope really jimmies their neutrons, and what could be better than an android hater and an android to fit that cliche? Once again, analogous to hankcon. The angst potential is also incredible when you take convin or hankvin into account instead of reed900 - reading into Hank and Gavin’s interactions it would seem there’s a tumultuous past between them. And in Connor’s case, Gavin can actually kill him or he can KO Gavin, which allows for a good deal of enemies-to-lovers and angsty regret material. Besides, a lot of people are really into hate s*x.

That…. makes a good segway. I may as well mention the elephant in the room for Gavin’s popularity. There’s a culture of fetishizing abuse in fandoms and Gavin is a prime target for this because “”he’s asking for it.”” It’s also easy to make one character a psychopath when they don’t even have a canon personality. This shows up a lot, whether because of writers treating it as a kink in fanfic or artists using it as a gag because its “funny”. I… won’t really go into detail on this, but it is a phenomenon that adds to the slew of Gavin content. This is another reason for why a lot of people hate Gavin / hate reed900. I started out feeling this way as well. Their perception of it is coloured by the abusive stuff or the mishandled stuff that seems to be prominent. I just have to say that this blog is a safe, sane, and consensual zone.

Sorry, that was a really long breakdown but I hope that gives some insight into the Gavin phenomenon. Last point. He winks like a dumbass. How can you not love that face.

Dude, if I could take you back to the first fic I ever wrote- I think it was Dramione? Or H2O, it was seriously just awful like wow oh my god. But the thing was- people were so nice. And dude, it was shit. I promise you, it really was. What i’m saying is- you are your own harshest critic, and that’s super cliche but it’s true. No one will judge your work the way you do. And the feeling when people are nice- oh god, it just- it’s worth the risk. No one is going to think youre stupid or you suck because you had the fucking moxie to create something in the first place. I know it’s hard to take that first leap- I was too young to truly comprehend how scary it was when I did it, but I know you can get there. Sometimes it’s nicest starting in a tiny little fandom because everyone is so supportive and you all know each other and you can build confidence that way- saying that, the starker fandom is by far the most supportive one i’ve ever been in (teen wolf a close second, but there can be some mean anons there who for some reason are obsessed with scott??? like i like him, but let’s chill out, sorry off topic) and there will be haters, but fuck them. I, personally, would read anything you wrote and i would never have anything negative to say. I might be like “dude could you put stuff into paragraphs cuz it’s hard to read a block of text on my phone” but that’s it- that’s the worst thing i would ever say. i’d be too busy being grateful that you’d written some glorious content.

It’s scary, my gorgeous darling, but you can get there. The more fic you read, the more confident you get, and soon you’ll get more confident in YOU. As long as YOU like your writing (which is one of the hardest things ever) it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

--PT1-- HEEEEEEEEY!!!!!!! Firstly I'm so so so so so sorry for the length of this. I know this isn't what you meant but I started with one thing and I got carried away and just started going on about things, I'm so so sorry. But erm here is the well basically the essay I just wrote about myself. Who knows why I'm single... maybe bc i don't like to approach people (curse my crippling fear of rejection) or maybe I'm just too weird lol, I don't mind I have no issue with marrying food.

I have been blessed with a high metabolism which I am thankful to my genes for every day.

--P3-- I basically have the mental age of a 5 year old lol, basically anything excites/entertains me- particularly blue tack I could play with that stuff for hours. I don't really know what my biggest wish is but at the moment my dream is to walk through a drive through at McDonalds (not very impressive I know) but it just seems like it would be fun. I often feel cut off from others bc I'm not the most popular person and whilst I love socialising there's that fear of rejection to remember.

--PT4-- DEAR GOD IM SORRY!! and I'd rather someone approach me first but ppl obviously have their own friends and while I do have friends they often just talk to each other and ignore me, which makes me feel like I'm boring or something or maybe annoying but idk. I also struggle to find common interests with people, things I like mainly are video games (despite sucking at them), books and k-pop.--PT5-- PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!! But IF I had to, it would probably be about her early adulthood, and flesh out the conflict between her human and inhuman side more. And what it would be called? Definitely something very symbolic that has to do with flowers. Style? No idea. Most likely a documentary-ish type of thing.  Q2 : What  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like? — Eerie piano. Similar to the nZk version of  Blumenkranz and the theme from Corpse Bride, but... Creepier. And mxed with some bowed string instruments. Q3: Why  did  you  start  writing  this  character? — Because a CERTAIN SOMEONE (yes Im looking at you, Sue) began to migrate the squad into the KLK fandom. she grew up in a poor family with her parents (factory worker dad and shop manager mom) and an older brother, raymond (i think hes like 4 or 5 years older than her????), who joined the military at 18 as a general infantry dude (just some body). She was v attached to raymond (not necessarily Close) bcz he was a lot more accepting of her Weird Kid-ness than her parents LOL. she certainly was made to feel like she was the Disappointment child (weird and depressive and asocial and not particularly talented or good in school) for the majority of her life until she started gaining relevant positions with the government but it didnt even matter at that point bcz she kinda ditched her family after raymond died and kinda blamed them a little bit. so yea basically theyre dysfunctional LMAOO

i think hot drinks. definitely into coffee, maybe tea too, i dont think she’s picky.

and in general i think i got the Premise from my original half-baked idea of like. Its Winter. Shit Sucks. We Live In A Society. Technology Is Ruining Us. i always needed a shitty tech savvy oc for that so ig that remains. i wanted a Strange and Offputting Evilbitch bcz im into those (ended up meowmeowifying her). Earliest factor of her current concept ig would be Incompetent President. my biggest insp is the sleep of no dreaming and imagining the type of psycho that would feel at home amongst massive industrial landscapes and desolate winters.

i think her recklessness is the main thing that gets her into trouble but ‘disregard for her own life’ isnt a very good lure LOL. i’d say she’s easily pressured into doing things tho. so anything that promises more peace of mind and less fear than she’d otherwise be dealing with LOL. of course her brother’s death has also kinda led her into her current lifestyle tho so i cannot count that out as a factor. i think she wanted to make a change and find out what happened to him but very quickly found out that it dont work like that. her toxic trait is thinking art is frivolous thats why her city fucking sucks. shes v science-minded but finds that to be Pleasing Enough. certainly finds it to be the more valid form of worldly exploration. thinks it can Never go too far. which is probably about the most Region 0 Patriotic belief she holds LMAO.

Love Yourself 承 'Her' (Analysis)

*Note: All the analysis is based on how I see the album and connect it to self-love none of it is actually confirmed and it isn’t necessary to see the album this way to enjoy it. Each have their own perception and that’s what truly makes it beautiful and considered an artwork.

Since the Love Yourself series is coming to an end by the end of this month, I thought of writing an overall analysis over the albums released so far. Taking a deeper look through the lyrics and what the aim and concept of the whole series is, which is self-love. 

Honestly speaking, I didn’t realize how much deeper this album was until the beginning of this year while writing an essay about it (yeah, I actually wrote an essay about this album for English class), looking up info for the album and reading more about it opened my eye to how much this album is actually related to self-love even though it may seem that it focuses a lot about love in a relationship between two people.

The whole series so far goes in a way where it’s similar to a plot (which connects the story well with how Wonder and Tear went).

If we connect all the albums (Love Yourself: Answer excluded for now) together it will work perfectly like how a story plot goes:

“I think the biggest love is the love for oneself so, if you want to love others you should love yourself first.”

.Serendipity:

The album starts off with the feeling that everything is too perfect and ideal. It mentions a lot how that it isn’t a coincidence to meet with the other person in the relationship and that they’re meant to be together. Just like a puzzle piece it was meant to fit in in a specific place from the beginning.

It was mentioned in this lyric translation that 'The Little Prince' and ‘Flower’ are referenced in the song and I think they hold a huge part in the meaning of the song. In the poem, it mentions how the other person in the relationship gave them a meaning and a reason to exist when they called them a fitting name, and that’s the first part where it is related to self-hatred. The person in the very beginning didn’t even think they were meaningful for who they are and thought that the relationship they had with the other person is what gave them meaning and they became complete when the puzzle pieces fit in together perfectly. Jimin himself looked a lot like the little prince in the MV and it made me think if he was portraying this character (or anyone in their own lives can be the little prince if you look at it in this way), his flower could also be him. The flower wasn’t beautiful, it’s thorny and has flaws, what makes it special is the time they spent with it which I think could also be considered as the flaws that a person has is what makes them themselves. The way you see yourself is what makes you special, the way you love yourself is what could give you happiness and make you special and that is all what matters even if others don’t see the stars as special as the little prince does and if they don't see him as special as he sees himself.

Another thing I noticed is that the lyrics say ‘I’m your calico cat, that came to meet you’. In japan it is said that calico cats bring good fortune and are often put in front of houses to bring luck. It shows how he/they felt that the relationship was a good sign and it would bring good luck and happiness.

.DNA:

DNA focuses more about how they were meant to be together, how it was in the universe’s plan for them to meet and be together and how it should be that way until the end because of how perfect it all is. How when they met each other it’s as if everything added up

“Our meeting is a mathematical formula”

They completed each other and nothing is missing, however, the feeling of something missing and emptiness, the need to have someone else to have happiness itself shows how much self-love didn't exist in the first place (i’m probably over-analyzing it but whatever)

.BEST OF ME:

Thinking about the lyrics, they are actually pretty sad. They started feeling insecure about themselves, too insecure that they only show their best self to the other person in the relationship.They started acting in a certain way to only show the good side since they hate the other side of them, that they themselves cannot believe how good they actually are around the other person in fear of losing them and leaving like how the rest of the people did.

"Even I can't believe myself being like this"

They saved them from the constant self-hatred since when they're around them only the good is seen, the other person in the relationship is what stopped the unhappiness the rain and snow inside them, that they cannot exist without them anymore just like how they gave them meaning in 'Serendipity'.

They find that being with them is the only way they can love themselves and accept themselves when the other person controls their behavior.

"You're the best master of mine"

.DIMPLES:

Honestly, it's just a cute song about dimples no deep messages, the only deep thing in it are the dimples (im so sorry you had to read this)

.PIED PIPER:

I think Pied Piper is more of BTS asking us to love ourselves. Pied Piper comes from a legend where the Pied Piper have lured the children of the village when their families didn’t pay him back. However, it’s about BTS luring us from our daily lives. Most of us neglected our responsibilities and our lives staying on our phones or laptops watching BTS stuff rather than focusing on benefiting ourselves, we choose to give our time and efforts to them. We always go with the excuse just for an hour and we’ll get back to what we are supposed to actually do but they are putting our attention to the fact that it will be a year or two instead.

Taking care of ourselves, our future, focusing on what’s good for ourselves is a form of self-love where we take care of our future selves. They are asking us to give ourselves the same love we give them and support ourselves just as much as we support them.

.MIC DROP:

This song is pretty self-explanatory. Like Namjoon said he wanted to tell the haters the last goodbye that finally their words don’t get them because they’ve done everything they ever needed that if they died now, they’d be fine because they accomplished everything they ever wanted. That the words and mistreatment towards BTS in the beginning because they came from a small company and how angry and affected they used to be by them, are meaningless now. That BTS are finally confident and love themselves after all the insecurity and self-doubt they went through. 

.Go Go:

Every BTS album of course has to have a song criticizing society. Opposite to how upbeat and happy the song sounds it’s lyrics ironically talk about how people gave up and don’t care about themselves anymore. One of the problems in Korean society as well as many other countries is how hard it is to make a living and find work without having to worry about the next day, how it isn’t easy to earn lots of money, you always have debts and loans to pay back or worry about making ends meet when you have a family and how you will pay for their needs and buying an apartment,etc. The concept YOLO is what lots of young adults decided to go with, rather than saving to ensure a good future they pay it all thinking it makes no difference, there is no time that will come that they won’t have to worry about money so rather than worrying, go and pay all the money on food and having fun. This however, will affect a good future for them, they don’t take care of themselves that day and look out for their future selves as if they are punishing their future selves with the struggle of making ends meet.

.Outro: Her:

I think this is where it connects with the sadness and loneliness of Love Yourself: Tear. The main person here realizes what is happening, how much this relationship affected him, how that this isn’t his true self. After finding love, they found this new version of themselves that they don’t even know if that’s them or the one they’re hiding behind the mask is them but for the sake of their love they keep this mask on and they are okay with erasing their true self. I especially like yoongi’s verse where he points out that because of his fake persona he could be their love but his true self is their hatred, he could be their friend and their enemy and because the other person doesn’t know that; they have to keep the mask on. Self-hatred is to the extreme here to the point that acting freely and taking off the burden of pretending feels like it would cost them there relationship.

.Sea:

“ Where there is hope, there are trials.”

Starting from a small company and getting cut off broadcasts to breaking records and being globally successful is like being in the desert and finally reaching the sea. Yet drinking sea water leads to dehydration and that’s the same story with BTS. After finally reaching the sea remembering that it was a desert they only get more thirsty wanting to make more accomplishments and reaching higher levels. The struggles and winds and despair they went through in the desert is what’s making them work too hard even if they should rest and take breaks in fear of losing all of that and being in a desert again.

Skit:Hesitation and Fear:

It is actually similar to 'Sea' ’s lyrics. They speak about how after all this success they reached with their hard work and it was one after the other in the accomplishments but how fast would it be when they lose it all. Yoongi mentions this fear in an interview as well saying that he isn’t afraid of landing rather than falling. It also speaks about how they only show their good sides which reminded me a lot of 'Outro: Her' and 'Best Of Me' how they only show their best sides but it’s not about being fake about who they truly are, rather a nicely wrapped gift.

Love Yourself: 轉 ‘Tear’ (Analysis)

Im not a Directioner, but its not like Im averse — One Direction just missed my particular age group.

So, before he left the band, whenever someone mentioned Zayn Malik, my brain would prompt the hot one and thats about as far as my knowledge went.

Ive been learning more about Malik since he left One Direction, thanks in part to profiles from Fader and the latestBillboard. Ive learned his musicality leans R&B, hes into street art and he only smokes Sativa weed because its creative (lol).

And Ive learned his dad is British Pakistani and his mom converted to Islam in marriage, but Malik doesnt particularly like talking about being Muslim. In 2012, he told the Mirror:

I don’t think you should stick [your religion] in peoples faces. I think you should just keep it to yourself and that’s how I’ve always been with it.

Malik hasnt been much more forthcoming recently. He told Fader:

I would never be trying to influence anything or try to stamp myself as a religious statement or portrayal of anything. I am me. Im just doing me.

Malik declined to talk about his faith with Billboard.

But at a time when Muslims around the West are facing increasing discrimination and persecution, Maliks voice (in song or spoken words) could be more useful than ever.

Republican presidential candidates have repeatedly stoked fear of Muslim people in connection with ISIS and terrorism.

Meanwhile in Europe, the rush of refugees from Syria and the Middle East reignited damagingparanoia that accepting Muslim refugees increases the risk of terror attacks.

Although Maliks standing among Directioners isnt exactly steady these days, he was accepted as one of the worlds biggest pop stars for several years.

Donald Trump has been using the popularity of Islamophobia in America to gain traction, but as Trevor Noah connected, a young Muslim man is a global pop star:

Pop stars have historically used their platforms to discuss issues they care about, like Miley Cyrus and her foundation for homeless and LGBT youth. Malik could similarly use his status to stand up to Islamophobic sentiment.

Duncan Cooper at Fader suggested Malik shies away from speaking about his religion due to the horrendous backlash he gets from bigots, saying he may not feel safe enough to be more politically outspoken.

This is understandable; Malik has been harassed, mocked and sent death threats for even slight mentions of Islam and a #FreePalestine tweet.

And anyway, it shouldnt be every Muslim persons job to defend his or her religion from Islamophobesand One Direction haters.

You could argue Malik is doing enough by living as a normal 22-year-old who wants to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.

Malik is a hugely successful pop star with an Arabic name who tweets Eid Mubarak to 17 million followers for the major Islamic holidays.

Even if you want to laugh away One Direction, you cant laugh away the impact Malik’simage has on millions of young people around the globe.

Diyana Noory, now a university student in Ontario, wrote about how Malik simply living while following his religion and culture helped her embrace her own as a teenager in an essay for Noisey:

Zayn shared that his favorite food is samosas; I stopped hiding the tabouleh that I brought for lunch. Zayn tweeted Eid Mubarak; I quit typing happy eid and instead proudly posted Eid Mubarak on social media.

In a piece for Medium, Malik expert Fariha Roisin explained Zayn is helping to redefine the image of Muslim men both by being accepted as a pop star and by being forthcoming with his personal emotions.

Malik is showing non-Muslims that Muslims are no different from anybody else. He lays claim to the privilege his actions arent necessarily dictated or influenced by his religion. Hes not perfect, and he doesnt have to be perfect — hes human.

This is a form of the contact hypothesis — the theory suggesting discrimination can be lessened simply by biased people interacting with someone from a group they don’t like, thereby seeing people from that group as real peopleand not false stereotypes.

Malik is showing the world young Muslim men can struggle with their career choices because theyre growing up, not because theyre wondering if it fits their faith.

Hes showing the world young Muslim men can be sh*tty boyfriends because theyre bad at communication, not because they oppress women. Hes showing the world young Muslim men can be withdrawn because theyre shy or awkward, not because theyre plotting jihad.

Malik is showing the world a young Muslim man is the same as any other young man.

They do dumb things sometimes and are trying to figure out the best use for their talents, and sometimes they piss off millions of teenage girls (OK, maybe that one’s just Malik) because they are human and thats what humans do.

So you can argue Malik is doing enough simply by being the formerly hot one of One Direction who also happens to be Muslim.

But then again, if hes already moving mountains by just doing him, can you imagine the effect hed have if he actively and regularly spoke out, even a little bit, against Islamophobia?

Maybe its time for Malik to use his powerful position to stand up for something important. To createchange, its not enough to just exist —Malik has the platform tolight up the world like nobody else andmake itmore beautiful.

Do not allow the smallest things to turn your own attitude into someone you cant recognise.

lets be honest you cant have a wedding without it and there is nothing more awkward than a rejected credit card.

Your wedding day is one of the most exciting days of your life however there is wisdom in leaving a penny or two aside for the next day.

please don't blow the budget on everything and laugh it off saying:

i don't know how were gonna pay for this

stick to what you and your groom have agreed, one of the biggest causes for divorce is money problems... its good to start being disciplined from now

not every bride can "buy it all" because we are not all billionaires

if you cant have beautiful designer shoes, the 7 course wedding Breakfasts, fireworks an ice sculpture .

then prioritise your needs/ wants / and can do withouts...

also i will add this a good percentage of the wedding industry is made up of small business owners who are so talented and want to share what they do to help you get the wedding day of your dreams. be cautious to not waste their time; plan what your "needs & wants" are first before approaching for quotes;  because its not fair for you to overspend on more than is affordable and cheapen their craftsmanship by haggling the cost down to get "what" you want but at their expense.

  3. Reality Check

at the end of the day if the caterers burn it all the food or your wedding rings are left behind at the hotel would you really call it off and send your guests home?

make sure you have insurance for the little things that could go wrong but enjoy the rest of the experience, enjoy the exciting planning that leads up to the big day. if there are any haters that have anything negative to say ignore it this is a celebration of your love for one another they are lucky to be there and share this enriching new chapter of your life with you. 

just remember how excited you were when you went on your first date with this gorgeous man; the hardest decision was planning what to wear!  now you're getting married:

who knew things could get so complicated?

It doesn't have to be difficult ; keep your romance and love for your betrothed on the top of your mental list throughout the process. eliminate things that don't make you happy and everything doesn't have to perfect to the point of your misery!

if things go wrong shake it off and enjoy being with the man of your dreams.
