kuroo is in the sea wolf, he's trying to have philosophical conversations and pester people and form connections

bokuto is in the sea beast, he's figuring out that monsters aren't really monsters and has an affinity for bonding with anything

ushijima is in our flag means death, where he's a very serious seafarer who doesn't want to be seen as intimidating when he just wants to make very good maps of the seas and stars

kita is the only one not in a specific story and thinks the rest of them are insane and not taking to pirate life that well.
